Evening All,

Curt I had to buy a booster to go along with my PR3 and Decoder -Pro, but I am using a Tsunami. As soon as there  is some disposable income, I intend to install them in all my loco's.  As Ken said maybe you will not need a booster with the QSI's, and it is a great tool for programming decoders

Jeffery So what started the fire on your G scale yard layout? Sure there is a good story about it! Whistling

Nothing too remarkable. My father and I were control burning the yard. We had firebreaks set up in strategic areas so the fire would stop at the points. A stiff wind came up and the fire jumped one of the breaks. That was all she wrote. We were busy putting down the fire in another location and by the time we noticed it got the train it was too late to do anything but spray water on a mass of flaming plastic.

Time for me to call it a night. Got the charging system on my van checked today. Alternator is good. Voltage regulator was bad, it was putting out 24 volts so replaced that. New one was $20. Just happened to have a $20 bill in my pocket. Battery checked out good. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a lemonade for me please.

Another fairly warm night here.  Only going down to 70°F overnight and will be in the high 70's by the time I get tomorrow.  Guess I will leave the air conditioners on overnight again.  They only run the fan if its cooler outside than the thermostat is set for anyway.

I w*rked on the mold making for the Blacksmith shop tonight....

There is no way i can find the tiny cobblestones i need for the rows of cobblestones on the original building.  Each row is exactly 4.2"  I did find some large sand at Michaels which may work well enough.  I will be a couple rows short at the end of the mold, but who's counting!  Here is a close up of the progress so far...

Ken, you know we are just ah...   your.....  ah.......  pulling your......  ah...  you know, there is no way to say it without it being taken wrong I think.  Anyway, as long as it does the job and helps the wound heal, who cares!

Curt, I take it someone was going to give up their pet skunk?  Glad they decided to keep the little thing!  Losing an owner/caretaker/servant/friend is just as hard on a pet as it is for us to lose them!

Jeff, glad you found the problem with the electrical system and were able to get it repaired!

OK, way past my bedtime, so everyone have a great night!

Good morning. It's 77° with 93% humidity. It will be partly cloudy with a small chance of rain. The high will be 95° with an index near 110°.

My plan today is to stay inside as much as possible. I did a little more work on the slug last night. Sanded the sides a bit to smooth them out more. The hot glue I used to fill in the portholes made quite a mess and that stuff doesn't like to come off easily. I'll probably do some cleanup work on the layout today. It's a mess after all that work yesterday.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and scrambled eggs with swiss cheese and a side of bacon please. Thanks.

A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 107

OK, Womens Beach Volleyball is on today. Why can’t I find a schedule of airtimes for events? I’ve looked all over and can’t find any other than actual event times which does me no good.Grumpy

Super AngryI really hate this annoying thing where in you drag your curser to the lower right corner of the screen and it goes away. Apparently, that seems to be the natural direction the thing heads when I move the mouse out of the way to type.

Jeff- It may be old, but your voltage regulator costs way less than a new alternator nowadays. Remember when you could get one at the auto section in Kmart? Shoot, you used to could get everything you needed to tune up your car from Kmart. As for your Mom, sorry she’s not coming home, but….., may be a good thing. At least they aren’t kicking her loose at the first sign of getting better only to have her go down again in a day or two and right back in. They used to do that to my Mom and Brenda’s Mom. Probably cause Medicare paid less than insurance companies. Problem was they’d just end up back in there. Kinda like a yoyo.

I always like looking at Ray and Jeff’s w**k…um...Hmm…areas. They make me feel so normal.

Welp, didn’t do anything on the floor yesterday but go to town and get a valveEmbarrassed. Haven’t heard about it from wifey yet either. She must want something. Did watch a Tarzan marathon on ACMYes. Today though, I shall go like gangbusters until it’s Chinese buffet and Grocery shopping time (around noon), then nap, then back on floor. Unless Mr Murphy gets involved there should be no reason I don’t get all but the tiny linen closet done with plenty of time to spare. It’s location requires that it be last in spite of it being in the back of the room and doing first as you would assume.

But first……..

I must find Xue ChenWink.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a nice big bowl of organic Pumpkin seed Flax Granola cereal with a bunch of fresh blueberries on it along with a cup of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug please.

Going to be a hot one here in the Finger Lakes today.  Currently 85°F under party cloudy skies with a predicted high of 93° around noontime.  Major heat advisory for most of central NY today....  No kidding!  Good news is there will not be any snow today!  Yep THAT is what it says at the weather channel website!  No snow in sight!

Todd, glad you noticed just how long my workbench stayed clean......  Hey, how can I get anything done when I'd have to go searching for tools and materials?  I like to keep everything out in plain sight where I can get to it...  (Now where did I leave the pliers???)  I see you have been cursing your curser......  So what goes away, the curser or the screen?

Barry, I'm with you.  The train room looks like a good place to spend the day!

I'm still waiting on all the paperwork to be finished on the Solar Installation.....  Looks like it may not be installed until September now.  Screws up plans for a party here for my old teaching Dept. from the Middle School and a Family get together I was hoping to do.  Oh well!

Later!

  Morning all,

Expected high today 102, don't think we will get there, about 100 is probable.

Have a closing shift today, but may stay home to help with my wife, if she needs it. Daughters will be coming over in the afternoon to help out too and see mom. If I stay home I will charge up the battery on the Isuzu pu.

I am thinking of doing a hard wire for my BB Athearn loco's. I remember seeing it done somewhere but do not remember where. (I suffer from CRS) Anyone do this or have an idea how it is done and if it is worth it? I know alot of people do not like the BB Athearn's but I have 5 and do not want to just trash them and spend $ on better (?) quality ones. At least not at this time. Doctor bill may be very large, even though I have medical insurance.

Some to east of us, RAY got LIQUID SNOW falling on 'em.!!! Hmm

I think I like Jeffrey's idea, and stay inside in the A/C. I was already out in it to go to Wally world and was HOT and HUMID and HAZY then at 9AM!!!

MOH, has to mow our lawn and got trim the FIL's hedges.... OF course MOH can withstand the ehat and espcially the humidity better than I. WE are borrowing the neighbors lawn mower to do the job as ours is kaput. I feel sorry for MOH as it is high, but that is MOH's fault for not tending to it sooner..like I suggested ...Whistling

Well, stay cool..maybe I meander down to the mailbox soon. Nah wait an hour til 2:30 when I KNOW it will be in {and then find nothing in the box}.

Stay cool..

Good Evening Folks!

Just dropping by to say I am still around, though not in a good shape. My ongoing health issues are showing effects on my spirit - I have pretty much lost interest in anything. Petra tries to cheer me up and motivate me, but with no luck for the moment.I have a hunch that something nasty is ahead of me.

Garry - I am glad to hear your first surgery went well. Keeping my fingers crossed for the coning two.

Welp, I am out again - blessings to all of you!

This is what you are looking for.

Athearn Tuneup

Google is my best friend....................copy and paste as I forget how to make it clickable right now.

I have many BB locos and I find the more you run them the better they get, sound and performance.

I have a few that I have done this tune up to and I have a couple that really need it and I haven't got to them yet,  but will..

Hey guys

Just letting you guys no I'm still around. Been really busy as of late.

Right now I'm looking for a technical illustration/mechanical design job now that I'm through with college. Looks like the jobs are all in texas, but there are a lot of mechanical engineering jobs that require some extra college around here. I'll ask my instructor if he know anything that I can do on Monday.

As far as trains are concerned I've done nothing. The DRGW F9A still will not strip and it's been soaking for almost a month. When I get some more $ I'll buy something that should work. I'm also trying to find a powered and dummy stewart chassis. The drive parts from one would suffice since a frame is inexpensive. (Jeff, Don't you have left-over drive parts from a stewart F lying around? I have 2 P1K F3 drives laying around if you wanna make a trade of some sort). I really don't want to buy 2 more locos, just for the chassis.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good afternoon all,  if the grill is up and running, Rerun and I will take a plate of double cheeseburgers...thanks.

I saw this and thought of our Coastie, LEEToday is National U.S. Coast Guard Day. If you know anyone who serves in our Guard, please make sure to thank them. In 1988, Speaking about our youth, President Reagan said, “If they said they wanted to help people in distress, guard our borders, conserve fisheries, battle drug smugglers, enforce maritime law, test their courage against stormy seas, and defend America in times of war, and wear proudly each day the uniform of this great country, then I would tell them just one thing -- I'd tell them: Join the Coast Guard.”

Have a good day. Rain, wind and storms here with much power line chaos around the region.

 Johnboy,

Thanks for the info. I think I will try this tune up. It does not look too difficult, just have to check my wire box to see if I have some  22 or 24 gauge wire.

Decided to stay home and help with the wife, trying to get nutrition in her. Hooked up the battery charger to the Isuzu.

Dang just remembered we are out of coffee. I need to go to Costco for that and might as well pick up one of my  meds while at it. It's 95 out and not a cloud in the sky. 81 inside with the a/c.. Well I will jump in the little Focus and turn the air on full blast.

Hello.... Hello!  Anybody here?  Oh at least the waitresses are in.

Well, let me see, Flo, I'll have the oriental chicken and melon (zucchini) special, with eggroll please, some fresh fruit, and a glass of iced tea for dinner.

Place has sure been empty today....  Guess everyone is out building their empire and staying out of the sun!

I did a couple loads of wash, and worked on the railroad....  "Oh, I've been working on the railroad, All the live long day!"  OK, OK, I'll stop...  Got some more done on the mold form, varnished the top of the upper staging board, and sat and starred at some other things hoping to get an idea or two of how to do them....

Later!

Evenin', Janie, how about a hot fudge sundae with a  Rio Grande  mug of coffee, please? Thank you. Smile

Wanted to check in and see if anyone has heard from Garry so far. Wondered if he would have internet access (and a computer to get to it) in the hospital after his surgery. Anyone know yet?

Ray, how's your 'family matchmaking service' coming along? Smile, Wink & Grin Had to chuckle when I saw that a few pages back.

And from the quick peek, it looks like Todd is stil in the middle of (yet...) another home project. I would figure that the whole house would be fairly new by now, with all the parts of the house that you've updated/replaced/etc.

Have been kinda busy at w**k lately - supposedly, we have one person covering in the daytime, and one 'floater' who helps the day person out with things (except that the 'floater' keeps getting called out to cover some emergency in one of our outlying (more northerly) offices...). Makes it hard to have the paperw**k for one day done - not only by the end of a day, but even a few days later (since much of the rest of the week, we're covering nighttime on-call...). Friday/yesterday, I was thinking I was going to get the two days from last week caught up, when about 3/3:30 p.m., we get a call for our furthest place we cover from our office (which meant forget getting any 'catch-up' on the documentation done). Bang HeadBang Head Before I left, I told our supervisor that I would try to have my monthly summary ready by Monday (theoretically, it would've been due about the first). Sigh Not enough hours in the w**kday to get the day's paperw**k done...

Got together with my buddy Mark (lives north of town) for lunch today - after getting together with my men's group from church for breakfast. At least got to see some familiar faces over food. Smile

Kinda at an impasse on the layout momentarily, only partly due to some glitches with new operating system (10.8.0) that I downloaded (and installed - thank Heaven!) on an *external* drive; kept my current operating system (10.6.8) on the internal drive. Glad of that! The new system has a few, let's say, "communication differences of opinion" with the Mac App Store (which the older system does not...). New system won't let me log into my account on the Store (which means, no recent updates to some apps for the new OS). After an email exchange of several emails with a certain company's tech support, I carbon-copied my last email to the CEO of said company. Must've (to whatever degree) w**ked, as I got emails and phone calls from a guy who appears to be the CEO's troubleshooter/support person. Maybe come Monday or Tuesday we'll talk on the phone and get the 'gotchas' ironed out. (Memo to self: do NOT get the "point zero" version of an operating system (10.8.0, etc.); wait for .2 or .3 version...)

Have been keeping various Diners (and your needs) in my thoughts and AngelAngel while I have been away.

Think I will kick back at the RC here and see about whittling down this sundae to size...

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Good Evening All:

Yesterday was the U.S. Coast Guard’s 222nd birthday.

Garry I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s MIL.  I’m glad to hear you feel sore, that means your healing and with heart surgery that means you’re still alive.

Jeff, that’s disappointing that your mother will stay in the hospital a little longer, but I’m glad she is doing better.  The slug looks pretty good.  I remember seeing those and cab-less GP’s running around the yard in Walbridge, OH.  Sorry as you said I never saw a F unit slug, but when the railroads see your concept unit who knows what will happen….

Today I took the puppy to the vet, then we went to the shop and had both truck batteries replaced.  They will call me in 2-3 days and tell me what I owe and I’m on the honor system to pay.  The old batteries were sent back for testing and credit for the prorated warranty or a full warranty.   So the one battery had 2 dead cells and the other one had 1 dead cell, this caused the diode in alternator to keep things running at full charge burning out the voltage regulator.  So short story long I hope this fixes all my issues.

Back from the club. I go back to w**k tomorrow. Never met up with the computer guy as something came up with his family.

Lee- Hope you had a happy USCG birthday. Does the CG do birthday balls like the Navy?

Jeff- Hope your Mother is doing better

Garry- Prayers for your daughter's  MIL. Hope you are doing well.

Evenin' folks!

Janie just a cup of decaf please.

It's after 10PM here in the Finger Lakes and still 79°F outside.  Dog Days are here!  The air conditioners will be left on again tonight.

Tomorrow I will be doing Docent duties out at the museum.  Forecast is calling for some strong thunderstorms with the possibility of high wind and hail.....  Oh Joy!  It they hit mid afternoon, we will probably close down early.

Jim, I don't think the "Match Making" will go anywhere...... LOL.

Time to get some sleep!  Prayers for all in need!

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer and keep them coming! Been a long day!

Paul as a whole I have not had great luck converting old BB engines to DCC. First thing you need to do is check running free wheeling amps then stall amps. Free wheeling should be around .50 amps and stall max's is 1.0 amps. Lower is better! If your motors are in that range and you want a simple hard-wire look at Digitrax DH-163-AT or there 123 DH-123-AT decoders.

If your motors amps are to high and you don't want to spend a arm and a leg check out this site for motors.

 http://www.alliancelocomotiveproducts.com/

Only draw back to there Hump motors is you have to grind out the chassis to fit the motor. I have one in my BB Santa FE F7A. For what I paid for it I cannot complain. Just makes a little noise.

Work Front Worked a long day, got there at 8:00 AM and left at 7:30 PM. 11.5 hour day is a long day. I will add it was a Pain In The Caboose Day. I only made around $40.00 Commission but it better than nothing.Far as my Feet they fared pretty darn good!

Sunday Seems Dave is leaving it up to me if I want to work? Hmm Hum, this could be a trick! Whistling But, then again K-10 Model Train's has open house this Sunday. I would like to go.

It's almost 9:30 pm and it still feels like 94 outside. Time for me to call it a night. A bit before noon today the power went out and stayed off for over an hour. There wasn't a storm anywhere near so I don't know what happened. Other than that it was a quiet day. See y'all tomorrow.

Good Morning All:

Curt, no balls, there are a couple communities around the country that host Coast Guard Day, I think the largest celebration is in Grand Haven, MI so we focus our attention on those festivities.

Had a couple strong storms roll through this morning and cat#2 decided she needed to wake me up.

I asked a cop one time what would be considered a good contribution to the Policeman's Ball. With a completely straight face the cop answered 'Policemen don't have balls'. Then he realized what he said. The look on his face was worth a million bucks!

Good morning. It's 76° with 93% humidity. There's a fair chance of rain today. The high will be 95° but will feel like 110°.

No outdoor activities scheduled. It's gonna be too darn hot to do much out there. Cleanup of the work area on the layout needs to be done. It's rather cluttered and it's getting hard to find things.
