Hi Gang,

Not much news from this end, Just replying to a few posts here.

Glad to hear the good news from Garry,  Ken, Jeff  and others here.

That was a real shot of health issues all at once.  Galaxy must have been burning the candles at both ends for you folks.

Well, I got my two days in and have a three day weekend.  Started it tonight with a dinner out with friends from work.  My wife had a salmon pizza,  and I had beef tenderloin and shrimp.  "Prairie Surf and Turf."

This was at a nice little place that we have never been to before and everything was great.

We had a heavy rain just before supper.  We were supposed to start our evening off with a pontoon boat trip around our in-city lake, but that was cancelled due to all the lightning and rain.   More rain is forecasted for tomorrow,  you could have guessed it as this week is our Provincial Exhibition. I usually rains fair weeks doesn't it ???

Tomorrow I hope to get started on the retaining wall that you see in pictures of the "Honeymoon Tunnels" in the Feather River Canyon.  Not a really big project, but one that I have been putting off for awhile.   We'll see how that goes.

All you Schoolboys, enjoy your last couple of weeks and then hit the books hard.  It does pay off.....

I feel my pillow calling me,  so I'm off to get some ZZZZZzzzzzsssss.

Happy Rails all,

Sakel- No problem on the not knowing the procedure, you just get to clear the tables and wash the dishes this month. Sorry, it’s a rule. Hey you took the initiative and that’s what counts. Saw it needed done and did it. Oh by the way, would you wipe this table a bit, I seem to have dripped some BBQ sauce there. Thanks.
Oh Young Sam……I seemed to have dripped another spot of BBQ sauce here. Could you please…..Smile, Wink & Grin

Gidday All, I see some of you guys have been keeping the young fellow busy on cleaning duties, and not letting him have time to show us, from foreign climes, the grand tour. A bit sad when we have to go wandering around on our own. Sigh Smile, Wink & Grin

Pleased to see positive results from Galaxy's and others candles.

Currently 2048 hrs and 47 F , forecast high of 57 F and occasional showers tomorrow.

W**k tomorrow so a hot chocolate while watching some Olympics on the box then early to bed.

Thoughts and best wishes to those who need them.

Cheers, the Bear.

Good morning. It's 76° at 6 am. Humidity is 99% and it's already getting sticky out there. The high will be 95° and will probably feel like 108°.

Today I'll be getting the second half of the grocery shopping done. I have $47 to play with so I should be able to get everything I need.

I'll probably rewire an Athearn/Proto F3B with more flexible wire so I can get started on converting the body to a chopped roof slug. I've never seen an F unit slug with a chopped roof (all the F7 slugs KCS had looked like regular F7's) but that doesn't mean I can't make one. Besides, it gives me something to do.

Good Morning All,

Garry, glad things worked out well for you.

I think there have been 8 of us that have had some “interesting” health issues so far this year or issues with our family members.  Hopefully we can continue to support each other and get everyone healthy before the holidays.  There are only 143 days, 16 hours, 29 minutes, and 48 seconds left until Christmas (at the time of my typing) so let’s get out there and get healthy!

Paul, don’t you just love small government billing offices?

I called the dealership last night.  The guy that answered was really cool after he found out I retired from the military.  He said this call might be monitored or recorded and I might get fired but don’t bring your truck in and spend $89 for us to troubleshoot it.  My truck doesn’t have a battery isolator, so according to the troubleshooting data base I have a dead cell in one of my batteries.  He told me to take it back to the shop that sold me the batteries and have them remove the batteries from the truck and do a certain test, not a load test or a continuity test something only the big roll around battery testers can do.  Since the batteries have a warranty it should be a $21 fix.

Galaxy, the sales tax limit in Ohio is 8% otherwise Cuyahoga county would be higher.  We literally are paying for the new Medical Mart they are building downtown, the improvements to the baseball stadium, and the football stadium.  Not to mention the failed and abandoned shopping center/condominiums complex on the river that was started 4 years ago.  These condos were going to sell for $250,000 for a 2 bedroom unit, or so they thought.  I really need to move 5 blocks to the east into Lake county and free myself of these idiot plans…

Ray, I’ve learned a lot about mills and tax rates since we have had a few around here.  In 2000 my house was valued at $108,000.  I was paying $2000.00 a year in property taxes.  Now my house is valued at $51,500 (I owe $84,000) and I’m paying $3,600.00 in property taxes, $420 for trash removal (use to be part of my taxes) $120 for street lights (use to be part of my taxes) $753 to build new energy efficient elementary schools, and $300 to cover the new sewers for the failed condo project (in Cleveland (2 towns to the west) a year.  I’m getting tired of the TAX GAMES…..

Good Morning

Nice and sticky out...75F feeling like 83F now going to a high of 90F feeling like 105F later...

Going to be doing some mall walking and other stuff today...need to get doing these things at some point.....

Lee:   We are doing the water and sewer thing here..and a bunch of other things as well. Here..because our mayor promised 4 years of no tax hikes he has backed a number of things up...to the point of having suggested at one point that street lights be turned off in the middle of the night...and around the big city..with all the druggies.....?Whistling

Ray:   Oh!! But it will be so much fun explaining all that wonderfulness!!...No Vinnie, I will be only explaining this...not doing this....Whistling

Good Morning!!!

Prime rib medium rare, baked potato with butter and sour cream and a side of green beans with onions please. Oh and a Dr Pepper thank you.

IT RAINED!!! For 30 seconds with no measurable amount. Now south of us got 4 ½ inches.

Jeff- Didn’t you used to have a G scale in your front….yard I guess til a few years ago until a storm or something? Hope things go well with your Mom today.

Lee- Oh so true about the end cost of taxes. Around here you can’t raise taxes above the inflation rate or something like that but we have this thing called a multiplier. They take the assessed value of property, divide it by three then add, or more correctly, multiply by the multiplier which is usually 1. If the county decides they need more money they raise the multiplier. No limit on that, but usually is point something, and voila! More taxes without raising taxes or boosting the assessed value which they allegedly can only do once a year.

Paul- Glad your wife is doing better.

Garry- That’s great news!. Well mostly. Get some rest now and worry about the other two later.

What pie fights.

Well, best get back on the floor. Things came to a grinding hault yesterday as the water shut off valve to the toilet won’t shut off without leaking all over. Should have known. Told you Mr Murphy sets up camp at my place. Anyway, didn’t have a valve and I wasn’t gonna run into town for it yesterday. I may today. Depends.

Also I’ve been keeping an eye on the Olympics looking for womens beach volleyball ya knowCool. Haven’t seen it but once for a minute. Now I like fit women, but the one I did see, well, let’s say she had a six pack that’d made Arnold jealous when he was competingThumbs Down. Thaaaaaat’s a bit much. Jeff- Didn’t you used to have a G scale in your front….yard I guess til a few years ago until a storm or something? Hope things go well with your Mom today.

Yeah, I used to have a G Scale Bachmann Heavy Hauler out there. A Baldwin ten wheeler (Silverton Bumble bee) was set up to run on batteries. A fire got it. Burned out all the track ties too. Just left the rails. There's a G Scale battery operated toy train out there now on plastic track.

Went to town to get the rest of my grocery shopping done. Stopped at Autozone as it was on the way and had the vans alternator tested. The alternator checked out OK. The voltage regulator however was bad. It would work normally far a little bit then the voltage would jump to twenty-four volts. So I got a new voltage regulator. Only took five minutes to change it out. One bolt and one plug. I had the battery checked out also. It's doing better than nominal. It's rated for 524 cold cranking amps and is actually putting out 545. Voltage under load is 13.7v. Totally acceptable. From there I went on to do my grocery shopping. No need to bore you with that.

Good morning. .... Very sore today (barely able to move) but it will go away. Thanks for well wishes. There was some good news, but as I said there were mixed results. Stuff needing to be done was "too risky", it must be done with another operation at a later date. Fortunately, I'll be able to function fairly well after recovery from this surgery as I await the next operation. .... Sad news. Our daughter-in-law in Cincinnati had her mother-in-law pass away early this morning.

I'l try to post later today.

This is what I've done on the chopped roof F unit slug shell so far. The roof will stay taped down until the glue dries. Later I'll work some modeling clay into the seam to close it up. For a comparison of how low the roof is the end of an uncut shell is to the right. I'm using an old Athearn Hi-F shell for this project.

Good Afternoon everyone.

101 with a slight breeze outside, 83 with a/c on inside. I am staying in for the rest of the day.

Jeff sorry to hear your mom is not coming home but glad to hear she is doing better.

Garry you will be sore for awhile, but it will pass. I was sore for about 3 weeks after my double by-pass.

Took my wife to the oncolgist today, mixed report. 1) lymphoma is not in bone marrow, lungs, and does not appear to be in any place except the localized area of intestine. Is stage 1 or 2, they can't be sure because all the test results have not come back yet. Also doc thinks it may be a very rare form of T-cell Lymphoma. Hope to know more on Monday.

On the railroad front, still playing with my new Tsunami for the GP 9 and decoder pro.

Oh yeah, battery in my Isuzu pick up is dead have to hook up the charger and run it once in awhile.

It's Loc-Tite super glue gel. I use a lot of it. It stays where I put it and doesn't try to leech into everything.

Evening All,

The skunk rescue was canceled because the owner decided that she could not let her pet go. This is probably best for the animal. Based on this I got my Dad's loco's weathered. The more I look at and run my Dad's 2-6-6-2 the more I like it. At some point I may need to get one for a RR that operated around the PRR since the PRR did not use them.

Tomorrow a club computer genius (no exaggeration) is supposed to help me get everything loaded on my laptop for the Digitrax PR-3 and JMRI. I plan on a stand alone system at home. He said to wait on buying one until we made sure it would work on my computer.

Garry- Hope you feel back  to normal quickly.

Rob- Please be careful with the stump work and don't over do it.

Jeff- Nice looking slug. It always amazes me on what you can accomplish with the little you have.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

As Ken says, I can fix anything. Even turn nothing into something. On that slug, the frame, body, gears, worm housing clips and the bottom clips on the trucks are Athearn. The motor, flywheels, shaft, worms, wheels and truck halves are Proto 1000. Everything else is redneck ingenuity. Make it work.

 Evening Folks

Flo, Ice water, with a Beer chaser. Whistling

Been a hot one today and even with the A/C going full blast in the Garage/ Train Room it is still uncomfortable.

Ray and Curt Seems the power to be pulled what kind of skin that was grafted on my toe. Whistling But you have to admit it is pretty funny. Hum, maybe I should not used the word PULLED with what was grafted on my toe. Whistling

Curt Once's you get the hang of Decoder Pro you will love it! Best $70.00 I ever spent on the Railroad. With you running QSI sound decoders you might need a booster. But don't spend the money yet! I am able to program 5 out of 6 QSI engines.

Jeffery So what started the fire on your G scale yard layout? Sure there is a good story about it! Whistling

Gary Happy than heck to see you back on line! I will all so add I am starting to like UP F units a lot more now that I have some working on the layout.

Work Front Well I wimped out today and only worked 10.5 hours. Today kind of of sucked. Phone would go crazy and all wise when I had people in front of me. Then nothing for a while, then busy again. Did make a extra $40.00 and that will help. I will be back there Saturday, after that I have no idea where I will be. I am hopping for 50 hours plus next week, I need the $.

See you all later, Dick Foot Ken! Laugh
