Morning All,
Got a late start this morning since I was up until 2 AM. Nothing much planned or today other than putter around the layout.
Paul- I am saying prayers for your wife.
Todd- Around here we have more of a problem from house fires caused by lightning strikes, so going to the basement would be a bad idea. Of course with FL water table it would probably be a swimming pool and not a basement.
Jeff- Hope you feel better. I had to laugh at that video of the speed run.
Galaxy- My co-workers have given me the nickname of Walter (Jeff Dunham).
Hope everyone has a great day.

Good Morning All,
68F, 78% humidity, Hi today 74F.
Jim, oh yea I told the story at one of Dorothy’s relatives parties….
I didn’t get to do any MRR projects last night, I went straight to work on cutting the grass before the big storm hit. Weather guessers said rain from Thursday evening through the weekend and after 4 weeks of not having to cut the grass things were starting to look unlived in. Still waiting for the rain, but I guess I have my weekend free and clear for MRR stuff.
This is unseasonably cool here for August, I wonder if this means a cold harsh winter is around the corner.
Ray, no there isn’t but then again the view is pretty plain on I-90 from the PA line to about Sandusky, OH unless you’re really into trees and cement retaining walls. Where is your sister?

TA462 blownout cylinder Going to clear up and be a bit cooler today..all of 72F of it... Getting some work done on the house today...new back awning and new back deck stairs being put in...after the old ones got crunched... It is official...I do not like these forum changes that much. I found a few things here where one has a few extra clicks one has to go through..the only saving grace was that I never had to enter into my profile to change email settings.... I hope it clears up, just stopped raining here. What am I, about 4 hours away from you? I'm heading up to Bancroft today to do some fishing with the wife. I was hoping to drive up with the top down in her new/old Jeep. I got to say I was kind of leary about buying it because they drive kind of rough and she is more use to driving a car or the old Escalade but it really is a lot of fun and she loves it. Yesterday we took the top and the doors off and just drove around for 4 hours, lol. I didn't realize this but Jeep Wrangler drivers wave at each other, or at least most of them do. I thought that was kind of funny. We had people waving at us in other Jeeps the first few days and we would look at each other and say who was that, lol. I'm not a big fan of this new format either, it truly sucks on my 24 inch monitor.

The Jeep I did have for awhile was an old thing..something like a WWII surplus special that I bought sometime back in the 1970's...painted it orange with red flames on the side...bad, bad beast this was...it could almost climb walls with this thing...

(sits down on something squishy) Put tomatoes on Ray’s sandwich after all didn’t they Flo?
Coffee please and a couple…oh what’s that? Fruit bar. Hm, I think I’ll just do that. Thanks.
Rained yesterday. Bout ½ inch total. Even had some thunder go with it for a couple rounds.
Hey Don, good to see you. You too Jeremy.
Paul- Praying for you wife.
Whoa. Stay out of Leesville. I hear the drums already. Some little Indian woman is about to go on the Warpath.
Ya, ya, I know she's not an "Indian" but it took less time than typing Native American. Well I guess not after this. Besides, I was taught in school Christopher Columbus discovered America, then for some reason let it be named after Amerigo Vespucci, and that means he discovered Native Americans and named them. It's history folks. And here I thought he was just some drunk sailor who got lost and landed on some island and thought it was India. Guess I was wrong. Though I never did understand how you could discover a land already inhabited. Seems someone already did to me. BUT we got a day of from school, so I was ok with it.
Tom- I agree with the where are you from thing missing. Just thought of it as Paul was saying where he lives about the horses and I looked up after saying “now where’s he live again and…..” Hate to keep asking someone where do you live 40,000 times til my feeble mind finally remembers. Shoot, othern Ken, I only rmember a few of the ones that have been around longern I have. Didn’t have to.
Ever notice there are more old drunks than there are old doctors? Makes you think.
Ok, Brenda painted the bathroom last night while I was at w**k. Yup, shore did. Why didn’t I get it done? Well the thunderstorms you silly geese. See, my beloved wife has taught this dog of ours, that when severe storms come she is to go to the basement. How does the dog know a storm is coming? Why thunder of course. Problem is the goofy thing can’t distinguish non severe, from severe. So, as I’m trying to paint the edges, the thunder comes and the dog gets out of bed and stands in the doorway whining and yapping like all pesky. Off to the basement we go and I have to sit there or she follows me up and does the same thing till the thunder leaves. Went back up after it was over, did a few things grabbed some lunch and started to get back to painting, when along comes round two of thunder and…….back to the basement. After that….I took a nap and didn’t get back to painting.
Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning. It's 78° and the humidity is 95%. It'll be mostly cloudy with a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms. The high will be 95° with a heat index of 109°.I don't think I'll be doing much today. I feel like I picked up some kind of bug and I'm not feeling well. I have a slow freight running this morning. Two Atlas Frankenlocos (GP40 and FP7) are doing the honors. The other Atlas GP40 won't be usable until I can get a Digitrax decoder into it and get Barney Oldfield away from the throttle. That thing goes way too fast! Could it give the TGV a run for it's money? I don't know. It wasn't at full throttle in the video. It would have flipped over if it was. I had the old busted up body on it in case it did. I really must get my work area cleaned up. It looks like Katrina and Rita dropped in for a day at the park.

Goooooood Morning
Flo, I'll just have a coffee and a breakfast bagel please....
Gidday All, All this change is slightly unsettling so could I have a shot of dark rum in my cocoa please.
cudaken Evening Dinners! Flo, Beer Pleases. I was all so told wrong about how many times I need to check my blood sugar a week! I was told twice a week. I should be checking twice a day. One day in the morning before I eat, then 2 hours after. Next day in the evening before and after dinner. I am to record the readings and after a week call in the numbers. They will then change my med's as needed. Beer and Blood Sugar. Yes, I have started drinking again and it was easy to do. Reason it was easy is because I went 3 weeks with out a beer. Blood Sugar Levels where just as high when I did not drink as when I did. So if the readings where the same, why not drink? My RN Consular told me people react differently to different foods and drink.

Gidday Ken, As you're finding out diabetes has slightly different individual effects. When I was first diagnosed two years ago with type 2, I was testing my blood sugar levels before and after each meal for about 4 months until the doc got my meds sorted. now just 3 times a year.
What they don't tell you about beer/alcohol though is that it actually helps to lower your blood sugar levels, BUT the downside is that it contains bad carbohydrates, and considering that weight loss, healthy eating and exercise are the best things we can do for ourselves, I have now may only have one or two beers a week.
Take care of yourself, I enjoy the photos you post.
Well as its currently 2258 hours, and currently 38 F with a forecast high of 57 F and showers tomorrow, and as I have w**k, its now time for my bed.
Thoughts and best wishes to all that need them.
Cheers, the Bear.

Well, after a little more looking, I haven't found my earliest post, but I found the earliest Coffee Shop page:
http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/15409.aspx
- which is before I started hanging around the place. The above page has Elliott(Big Boy 4005)'s start to the Coffee Shop (and the last page is 3 years or so later, in 2007(!)).
A little history for those newer to the place. Old and crotchety, Galaxy? (Heh, heh...)
Jim in Cape G.
Evenin', Chloe - I'll have a butterscotch sundae and a Rio Grande mug of decaf, please. Thank you!
(slides into a booth and leans back...) Way too busy of a day at w**k today. Didn't get away until after 6 p.m., and no lunch break. Glad to be off this weekend (after being back there in the morning)...
Bill T., it looks like you're trying to teach us Japanese, eh? Good luck with that on some of us (like me...)!
Lee, that is one interesting story about you and Dorothy and the zoo. Chuckled when you described finding out that THAT other woman was not Dorothy (but she still wanted to go out with you). Didja ever tell Dorothy about that part of the day?
Todd, I wouldn't mind being able to jump to a selected page - I was looking at the URL (the link in that text box at the top of your browser...), but the format isn't like the old format. With the old URL format, you could select the page number part, and type in your desired page and hit <Return>... But not so recognizable now. Fun time at the hardware stores, right?
Paul (pascaff) - Yep, the docs think nothing of sending a person here and there across the country (but then again, they have more 'disposable funds' than us mere mortals, methinks... Hopefully, you and your wife can get things lined out without tons o'travelling needed.

Galaxy, maybe the forum spell-checker is having a spat with the dictionary or Wikipedia? I had to go check it myself - it's one of those words that look wrong, even when spelled correctly (as you had it). For tomorrow's appointment, put a stick note on the mirror in the bathroom, maybe. Good that you got your pain meds.
Jeffrey, I can see how you would NOT like nursing home hallways. Hey, what's the maximum number of manufacturers' assemblies (not just individual parts) that you've put into one of your Frankenlocos?
Flip, (last time I checked) I don't think I have a track-cleaning car, but maybe I should consider one...
Curt - and you would know about having the track (in front of a track-cleaning car) clear by how? (Okay, I'll hush up now...)
You all got me trying to recall how long ago I started stopping by the Coffee Shop (the Diner's name before it was the Diner or ETD)... After some searching, I could find a December 2006 page, but that was after the name got changed to the Diner, so I'm guessing I was around before then in here. Will do some more searching (here and in old emails...) before I put it in my signature...
Oh, here's the link for that (Dec. 31, 2006) older Diner:
http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/83683.aspx
Hmm... the 'insert/edit link' icon is greyed out for me... Well, copy and paste the above to go see an older Diner, anyway.
[Edit:] Turns out if you go back and edit your post, the link icon becomes w**kable... Go figure!
I'll be lazing here in the booth while I finish off dessert.
Hope we hear something from Ulrich before long - starting to get concerned about him... for him, as well as for those in need of healing, comfort, and/or a good night's peace/rest.
Blessings,
Hanging around the Diner/Coffee Shop since before 2006 (still figuring out how ancient I am...)
Calling it a night a little early. I'm tired tonight for some reason. Is there a record for the worlds fastest model loco? Don't know if this can be called fast but it can sure move. Click this line to see the video and don't blink.See y'all tomorrow.
Nice looking loco there Curt.
Today and the VA Hospital. Today was pretty productive compared to yesterday. One of the things I learned was why high blood sugar hurts healing. I all wise thought the sugar just floated around in the blood. It is really carried by Red Blood Cells. When the Red Cells are over loaded with sugar and cannot carry sufficient Oxygen to the cells. Plus the feet are there last stop, so they get very little Oxygen for healing wounds.
She can eat a large Baked Potato and her sugar does not go up. If she eats a 1/2 cup of rices, it sky rockets! My body may handle beer better than some. (I have had plenty of practices) But now with knowing how and when to test my sugar levels, well that may change.
Toe and Blisters. Seems my blister's have turned into Ulcers! When the RN looked at them and told me that I was thinking "Here we go again" I am going to be in the Hospital. Went to see the Surgeons and yes they are Ulcers, but they are not infected and they are healing. They cut away the callas that where forming over them and cut some away from my big toe as well. Boy did they ever bleed! That is a good thing, plenty of health tissue under them!
My Blood Sugar has been very high and may have to go on Insulin. But now that have a team watching what is going on and understanding things better I am 95% sure I will keep my feet and legs!
See you all Friday!
Ken
I hate Rust
Let me try this again.
I figured it out. I have to actually open the picture to get it to work for some reason.
Jeff- Your recommendation concerning Email worked. Thanks.
Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.
Well I got the GP40 wired up for DCC. An old Bachmann decoder is the best I can do for it right now. I definitely need to get a Digitrax decoder into it. I have a DH123 but I don't have a 9-pin harness for it. I just tested the loco on DCC. It creeps with the throttle just cracked. At high speed it goes to warp three and will almost flip off the curves! Too fast! Another problem is that the Bachmann decoder (board type) pushes the shell up and therefore the couplers are too high. Another good reason for getting a smaller decoder into it. Oh, I know the question that's coming. Why don't I use the decoder that was in it this morning? Simple. It fried when the motor kicked the bucket this morning.
Curt you are right. MEA CULPA !
Very tired. Only had three w/c people today. Might be a combo of the heat and my age. Anyway, going to get showered and slip off to the featherball. Then again, getting up at 4:30 doesn't help.
Pleasent dreams folks. May Murphy stay away from your layouts.
Goodnight, Flip

I always check out the others in the handicapped spaces as I get out with my cane in hand, and when i hobble back to the vehicle. I am amazed at some and disgusted at others, but never fail to pause to reflect their pain or disability may not show. SOmetimes I get bad looks until I get out and hobble off with my CANE in hand.
I am ever thankful that I only have "x" amount of pain and disability, and do what I can to help others who are worse off than I.
Maintaining a "prayer candle" is an extension of MOH"s {My Other Half} Ministerial duties, so it is no problem. A candle is lit, and a prayer for someone specific or a general prayer for health and wellbeing is said over the lighting of the candle. Needless to say, if we go out or nap or so,the so do the candles go out.
It is amazing the comraderie a group of cranky, crotchety and cantankerous old men {and toss in a few young'uns too} can have stemming from one thing..a love of trains, and in particular their models. This is a wonderful site and the Diner an integral part thereof. I did NOT come in here long ago as I thought this {and the former Beer Barn} were "members only" groups. Until I wondered in out of final utter curiosity and hung around awhile. THen I "joined".
I actually think I like the new version. I have adjusted to it quicker than the old one when IT came online. I was not surprised that a 2 day offlining did come with a new format...I expected it. At least it is still Free to use!
Have a great night everybody the prayer candle will soon go out as we retire for the night. It will be relit int he A of M.
Evening All,
Finished a supper of tube steak and french fries. Sitting here drinking a cup of coffee now.
I recieved my BLI NW-2 today and it's great. I ran it for about a hour with out issue and weathered it. I also ran a mini ops with it picking up all the coal cars at the mine, runnning around the layout then droppping them back off at the mine.
I am seriously considering removing the Tortoises on 6 turnouts that I can reach easily and put in ground throws instead in a effort to simplfy the operation. Several of them I have never been able to keep them throwing consistantly. As you can imagine this causes frustation.
Has the way we post pictures changed? I have been trying and I can't get it to work. I keep getting a pop up screen for pasting a word document.
Jeff- Good job on the current project.
Ray- Look forward to photos on your building progress.
Garry- Glad you are doing well enough to travel. Have a great time.
Phil- Pushing seams to work better than pulling, just make sure nothing else is on the track
Phil- I remember the cleaning car discussion and I tried it this last time and it seems to work better, but you forgot to say make sure the track is clear of other equipment.
Ken- Hope everything goes well at the VA.
Jeff- Great job on the current construction project.
Ray- Look forward to seeing more progress photos.
Garry- Hope you continue to do well. Enjoy your trip.
T O P. Dusting off the card. Vinnie, it's a good one. Enjoy folks.
Flip
Coffee- please. AH Yes, Another DISimprovement. Darn, if it ain't broke, DO NOT fix it.
Jeff- You never cease to amaze me/us.
Galaxy- I've been in the diner since it started. I have under 1900 posts. Of those, only a few have really been of help to others. I know CAPE JIM and LEE have started PUSHING their track cleaning cars per my post.
Ken- Pay close attention to the DRs.. I have seen people go from losing a toe to losing both legs.
Today I'm working on another Atlas GP40, the one that was in this mornings video. This one won't have any flywheels for the simple reason that I don't have any that are compatible. Like the FP7, this will be a project using parts from several manufacturers. Namely Atlas/Life-Like/Athearn/Bachmann. The frame and trucks are Atlas, the body is from Bachmann. That was easy. A couple of the shaft couplings are Proto 2000 (Life-Like) and the rest of the shaft components are Athearn. The photo below shows my progress at this point.
Afternoon Tea and crumpets
Well, I was out of my pain pill script and I got so caught up in getting a new one from my Primary Care Dr. tat I plum clean forgot all about the Pulmonologist Breathing Appointment!!!
THen, when I called, they said they were worried cause i didn't show, but were glad to know I was "all right". I rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Now as long as remember that appointment!!
Not much else. Pain from grocery shopping yesterday is what ails my back. And without my pain script, i feel it. Even with the script, I feel it. So NO other chores for me, save cooking dinner.
Dinner will be Roast Beast smothered in KC Masterpiece Steakhouse marinade, smashed taters, steamed zucchini and Broccoli. YUM!
Hmm spell check doesn't recognize "pulmonologist". Oh well.
Have a GREAT night!!
The Prayer Candle is Lit for those in need....
Hi guys,
First time I have been in since the switchover. Little different looking.
I don't think I have done a thing with the model railroad this summer ( usually work on something but haven't this year ) I have been spending alot of time on my mountain bike hitting the trails and enjoying my bike, haven't enjoyed the heat though. We have had rain now for three straight days and calling for more today which is good as its been very dry this summer. I hope it rains tomorrow morning so I can hit the trails as I love riding in the rain. Well I have to get going, were going to the mother in laws at 4:00 for steak dinner and have to get there house keys as I will be cutting there grass next week.
Afternoon folks!
Chloe, can I get refill on the lemonade please?
Jeff, they will be spaced every 39 scale feet on the viewable side of the rail. They are only there for detail. I do often use a rail joint as the starting point for them and people won't notice unless they really look carefully what it really is after the rail has been rusted. Just got an email saying they are already packed and ready to be mailed. Should get them early next week.
Lee, I've driven through Euclid several times on my way to my son or my sister's house. Not really much to see there from route 90.......

Well it’s official: I don’t care for the new forum. I don’t mind change when it improves on something but it seems we lost function ability and didn’t really gain anything that we end users can see.
Galaxy, normally you can have quality or quantity, not often do you get a quantity of quality.
Paul it might be a good idea to go the extra distance to get the right treatment option the first time. Then again every doctor I’ve met admitted to be still practicing medicine, evidently only the retired ones are no longer practicing at medicine.
Tom, I’m conveniently located between NYC and Chicago in the sprawling metropolis of Euclid, OH.
Afternoon!
Chloe, I'll have the Turkey Club Sandwich (remove the tomatoes please), French fries w/ gravy, and a glass of lemonade please.

Yep! One of several "improvements" they made. What really does irk me is that the text of the post you are replying to is cut off and doesn't wrap around like it should.
Gotta go start making the mold.
