Good morning. It's 84° and feeling like 91°. There's a small chance of rain. It'll be mostly cloudy with a high of 95° and it will feel like 109°.

Got the FP7 wired this morning and did a test run. It ran great! For about two minutes. Then something in the drive train slipped and threw the motor out of place and partially destroyed the drive. So today it looks like I'll be changing out the motor and the drive. Oh well, I've never said I don't like a challenge.

Jeff, once I'm satisfied w/ a remotoring/ driveline set w/ doublesided tape, I will permanently mount using RTV Black. Nice isolation and vibration dampening.

Still don't like the no post count, location and join date thing. I've been waiting anxiously to see you hit an alltime milestone here.

Well, well

I see they did away with that silly link to the enhanced reply section button you had to click and you now go directly there. Good.

Now , If they would just reinstall the post counts and date joined, that would be nice.

I see people apparently don't read. there are what about 6 "new Format"  titled threads!

MOH came home and I was right, a nap was in order. Of course starting work at 6 AM when tired can do that to you. I just got up, finished off my half a sub and now I think I go back for more nappy. Of course news is coming on. SO maybe I Wait a bit.

Afternoon Modelers!

Starting to recover from the upgrade and I am still working with IT on the major issue; biggest being the MASSIVE email messages that were going into the Inbox.  I think the issue is now solved and folks just need to adjust their profile settings based on if they want them or not.  It looks like allot of notifications that were not working on the old version kicked in with the upgrade and starting working.

I know I and others have other requests but can't say if we will get those changes or not.  Hang in there with us as we work through the issues.

Working on the Atlas FP7 again and it's slowly becoming a Frankenloco. The frame and trucks are Atlas, the motor is Athearn, the flywheels, shafts and shaft couplings are Proto 2000. Yesterday I tried the quick and dirty method of remotoring the unit by slipping in an Athearn type motor using the Atlas/Roco components already in place. Well that didn't work out near as well as I thought it would. So today I'm applying some self taught engineering skills from the Macgiver school of redneck engineering. I've had to adapt some of the shaft pieces to fit properly and changing the worm shaft couplings was somewhat interesting.

Here are some photos of what I have thus far:

Jeff, do you ever use double stick tape to mount the motors, or do you always use hot glue?

I use what I have available. Right now it's hot glue. If I had double sided tape I'd use that.Cool

 Morning All,

OK, a few changes here, maybe not too difficult to get used to.Confused

High today of 95, but the air is very heavy. Not normal for western Nevada. Air will probably kick in before 10:30.

Oncoligist finallly has the results from the biopsy, so we have the long awaited appointment to see what we are dealing with. I am hopeful. She is still very tired.

Jeff, do you ever use double stick tape to mount the motors, or do you always use hot glue?

A/C just kicked in.

Now I guess a nap is in order before dishes, laundry and vacuuming. I say nap because I didn't sleep well at all last night. we had Lightning and Umbrella Only got to sleep in the early hours, then MOH wakes me and says "if you want to see me off you have to get up". I could have killed! I had basically just gotten to sleep!

Mornin' everyone!

Good morning Zoe!  Can I please have a cup of dark roast regular coffee if I promise not to get riled up about the stupid new downgrade in .........  If I promise not to complain?  Thank you Ma'am.  could I get a bowl of Organic Flax seed Granola with Pumpkin seeds cereal as well?

At least this time most everything appears to work...  I do remember the last fiasco they had when they were doing this sort of thing.

Tom, they say a dusting of snow (up to a couple inches) will not cut down efficiency much.  Two foot, on the hand.....  There are ways to remove the snow if it gets too thick, but I am not yet sure what I will need to get.  I was told it can be done from the porch with need to climb on the roof.  The steel roof will shed snow very well.

Todd, nah, no jinx, just a premonition!

Barry, lines in your post?  Did you accidentally click on the "horizontal rule" next to the smiley icon?

Lee?  Your post is way down where?

Time to get moving!  Have lots to do before company gets here....

Good Morning guys and gal!!! Missed yun’s!!!!

Coffee and eggs benedict please. Thanks.

I see Ray jinxed the place. And I quote, (ahem) “Hope is just maintenance and not one of those "upgrades"!

Well, the place looks……nice I suppose. I’ll get used to it like the last couple times. But now, I have to figure out what want to do and how best to do it. For me……., that’s a time consuming effort when it comes to this computer type stuff.

Went to the fair…Confused…it was fair.

Garry- Yes sometimes communication is difficult at best. I don’t have much trouble. They key is kinda knowing how they talk anyway. Evenwhen they speak in their own language to each other, their wording leaves to the listener still a bit of “you just know what they mean”. They also don’t use or have a lot of the words we have that to them mean nothing and actually really don’t have a meaning. Like “the”. Actually had a Chinese girl many years ago ask me that question when she was kinda criticized for speaking the way she did. Another girl said sorta snooty about her not using “the” and “a” type words. Prepositions I guess. Chinese girl smiled but later asked me what “the” meant. I told her and she said “if it mean nothing, why use word? English hard. You have many words mean same thing and many words mean nothing.” Couldn’t argue. Besides, man was she cute.Whistling BB= Before Brenda.

Since I got you Garry, late congrats on the anniversary of your second chance.

Galaxy- Glad to see you back and no real issues.

Barry- Good news to hear. Several years ago took Brenda to the horsepiddle for chest pains. Turned out to be GERD for her as well. She said it scared her and when she gets scared like that, so do I.

OK, what I don’t like is I can’t jump to the page I left off like before. Or at least I haven’t figured out how. Not gonna complain about the software, it’s free and I’m grateful.

By the way Flo, do NOT give Ray any caffeinated products until I say it’s ok. He needs to get used to this new update and really doesn’t need caffeine.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good Morning All,

Dense Fog Advisory, 63F, 90% humidity, Hi today 80F.

Ken, the driving force in the universe is change…

I wander off for 3 days and you guys swapped the Pullman for a Budd car??  Oh sorry it’s the new modern look of the diner….

Garry, how Dorothy and I met is a funny story; it was a blind date at the Zoo.

I can’t spell phlebotomist without the aid of spell check, LOL.

Todd, my 12 year old Labrador couldn’t remove the squeakers in these toys so I doubt the puppy will.  Road kill squirrel and road kill bunny don’t have stuffing.  The squeakers are large nowadays to prevent the dogs from swallowing them; some of them are larger than my fist.  I see they have dog whistle squeakers in some of the toys, the dog can hear it squeak but humans can’t.

I had a small black mouse in the back yard that caught Katje’s attention. She chased it into the rhubarb patch where it had a den.  Took me 2 hours to re-plant the rhubarb, put all that dirt back, and bath the dog, but she got the mouse and she was so proud of herself.

Ray - I have been following your threads concerning the solar panels you are having installed. I haven't seen any residential installations around here. That's not to say there aren't any, just that I'm not aware of any personally. I was wondering if snow accumulation can be a problem, or if some type of heating/melting system is built in. And has the manufacturer said anything about maintainence such as annual cleaning, etc? I think renewable energy systems will become more and more common place. For example, I see more and more wind farms every time I go across the Pennsylvania Turnpike. And we read about the construction of "green buildings" all the time. It's all getting very interesting.   Tom

Ahem....  Janie can I get a refill on the decaf....  No no french vanilla, chocolate, carmel fudge decaf, just plain old decaf coffee please......  This new stuff is driving me crazy.......

Barry, good to see you are back and no worse for wear!

I have a friend from my division (one of our officers) stopping in tomorrow morning.  He just earned his Master Model Railroader and is truly a master modeler.  He will help me install the upper staging area and advise me on a few projects.  Then I owe him lunch for a bet he says I lost....  Now I don't think I lost, but I will still buy the guy lunch.  LOL

I should be hearing later this week when they will want to install the solar panels....  It would be nice to get them on line before we run out of summer sun...  Of course it should mean lots of cloudy rainy days for the rest of the year!

Prayer for all in need!  Have a good night.

Well this is my progress so far. The motor has been checked to insure it is isolated from the frame. It's been hot glued in place and checked again. I connected test leads to the motor and clipped them to the rails and test ran it on address 00. It runs OK at low and medium speed. I'll find out what it does on high later when it's off it's wire tethers. I went into Macgiver mode and used a piece of decal paper to make a shield to go over the commutator to help keep wires and other things out. I repurposed the old motor mounts (white objects in photos). I glued them to the frame. They'll support the Bachmann decoder board. That's all I'm doing tonight. With the exception of the wiring it's almost ready.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

I'm currently working on a 70's era Atlas FP7 that had a bad motor. It wasn't dead but was on the way, just would go slower and slower the longer it ran. I'm refitting it with an Athearn type motor from a Proto 2000 FA1. The new motor sits a little higher and that would throw the shafts out of alignment. If you think that doesn't make a difference just ask a mechanic who's worth his salt. So I modified the frame slightly so the motor could be laid on it's side. The shafts on this motor are a little larger diameter than the old Roco motor which by the way was NOT original to the model. So I had to drill the shaft couplings out a bit then carefully measured how far they had to go on then super glued them onto the motor shafts. The drive shafts fit just right!. Now the frame mods I had to make will be readily apparent in the two photos below, especially to anyone who knows how this frame looked before.

Hey Galaxy!  You're back!  Glad you are doing better.  You had us worried, you did!  Ulrich is probably stuck in a cloud, trying to find the place........

Naw, I didn't. Not really. Actually I think it was just my sinus "doing a number" {insert your own words there} on my inner ear balance. What WAS scary though, was the not being coherent business. THAT was scary. {or is that scarry?}. Since my Dr was out, it seems to have cleared up though I did help it with a good ear clean out system.

Hey, AUTO spell check now actually works for me here!!!! You might all now get to understand me better!!! Ken too, if he uses it!!! Yep, Its "Scary" not "scarry".

Works well, now if I can check the correct spelling out of a list that includes the actual correct spelling!

Oh ULRICH...He may now have me worried. I DO know what is going on with him..but don't know how much at liberty i am to say about it. I can say..he NOW has me concerned as I see he hasn't posted in awhile either.

Well, dinner was great. Cake for dessert {I know I shouldn't but it will fininsh it off..and I had help eating it}.

MOH has been happy at work since out of the department with the manager with whom there was conflict. And getting More hours too! got two slow weeks though, but two big weeks made up to a mediocre few weeks. Hopefully the hours will be staying the same.

WEll, have a great night.

(Walks in, looks around, Scratches head........, Leaves.)  (Comes back, scratches head, and looks around some more.........)  Hmmmmmm.  Is this the diner?

Oh, is that you Chloe?  New uniforms I see.  Didn't recognize you.....  This place still serve coffee?  Well can you get a pot of dark roast....  No I don't want any Hazlenut, mocha fudge Latte Dottie crap.....  Just plain old dark roast, strong coffee!  NO, NO!  Not yelling at you, just the place and menu is now way too complicated to get through just like it was a problem getting here without some GPS app for a phone I don't have......  Darn so called "upgrades"  it now takes 3 clicks to get where you used to just be......  My late wife used to say, "I'm sorry sir, you can't get there from here..."

Hey Galaxy!  You're back!  Glad you are doing better.  You had us worried, you did!  Ulrich is probably stuck in a cloud, trying to find the place........

Well, I see they did put the "Clog up my inbox with Spam - ring my smarty pants phone/texter, email, bad photomaker thingie" box so that it defaults to off!  THAT is an improvement!  Heck I almost ever answer the phone when it rings here at home anyway.  sometimes I lean over and see 866-000-0000 type numbers and just laugh and keep doing something else, but I seldom answer even if it is people I know.  Family and close friends I make exceptions for.  [edit] Phone just rang...  866 - 339 - 9733.  Picked up about half an inch and slammed it down real hard.  Wonder what part of "DO NOT CALL" these idiots don't understand.  Gotta get me one of those little air horn cans and then push 1 for the next available live operator.....  Heh, heh, heh!

Evening All,

Well this format will take some getting used to. Tomorrow my son has his court appearance and who knows after that. Today I installed the DCC breaker on the layout and tested it without any issues.Yes After court tomorrow I'm going to try to get up to the LHS but I'm not sure that will happen.

Galaxy- Glad to see you back.

Ulrich and Rob- Hope you guys are doing OK.

Garry- Hope you are still doing well.

Ken- How's your toe doing?

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

I don't know who all needs them, but a general prayer candle is lit for those in need for tonight..

Anybody hear from Ulrich? I wonder if his worst fear was realized? If so, he will need LOTS of prayers and thoughts for his condition just as those with the heart conditions!!!
