Jeff, if you can heat them up with a torch a little, they should come loose.

Just one of those things you have to do with nothing but a ratchet and elbow grease. Does spraying any penetrating lubricant on it help? like PB Blaster? that stuff works great.

I tried WD40 and PB Blaster. Seems it didn't do squat.

Can you get a breaker bar and then "cheater" bar on it to give you more leverage or still to tight for that?

I can get a cheater pipe to some of them but on most it requires a whole lot of upper body strength. This tractor is a riding mower type but it's not small by any means. It weighs over half a ton and I'm not giving any part of it a chance to hit me or fall on me. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt!

Hey all. Sunday I went to the Children's Museum of Oak Ridge for an open house of the MRR club that is housed there. Nice HO and N scale layouts. They do operations a couple times a month as well as work weekends. I may try to hit them up over the next couple of months if I can without joining.

Does anyone know or have saved the blog site for a guy that used to post some pics and videos of his railroad on WPF. I think his name was Ty or Tyler. He is building a new railroad and I want to check his blog. Thanks in advance.

Jeff: You need to get yourself a impact gun. I have a cordless one that works great.

Problem is these nuts and bolts are located in tight spaces where an impact gun can't get to.

It's going to mostly cloudy here but the weather guesser says no rain. Maybe I'll be able to work on the tractor again tomorrow. I'm still hurting from slaving on this morning. Those nuts and bolts have been on it for over fifteen years and a bunch of them didn't want to come off. I'd go to pulling on one and it wouldn't budge then when it did it came loose like POW! I wouldn't know if I'd loosened it or snapped it off until I lifted the wrench out of the way. A lot are 1/2", 9/16" and 3/4" but some require a wrench bigger than one inch. I'll be glad when I finish with that! Of course the real fun is going to be putting it back together!

Got the doors on that boxcar loosened so they can be closed now.

Got an Athearn 50' double door boxcar in the mail today. It looks nice except that the doors are glued in the open position. Looks like a setup for the great Waldo Pepper to fly his plane through. Right now it's 'parked' on the track at the engine house with a cargo of double sided adhesive strips in it. No doubt in my mind that the previous owner is a smoker.

Hello! It is good to see everybody!

LSWrr

I hope they switch back to the old forums format, this is like a step backwards in technology and really isn’t that fun to post with.

Lee ... I also don't care for many of the changes. I think it would help if we explain what we do not like and why. I don't really care to have it broadcasted if I am logged in to the forum, an. I don't see why they put the "who is on line" box in the side. .... Feel free to tell what you do not like. .... On the other hand, I think there may have been some technical improvements to the forum, and I think Kalmbach should explain them. We might be more appreciative if they were not keeping it a secret.... I think Kalmbach should have surveyed the forum members in advance of changing things to find out what would be desired.

Ulrich.... It's always good to see you. We all care about you. Take care.

Sue .. Perhaps you can post a photo of Larry's painting.

We returned from our trip and it was good to see people in the family. The 93rd b'day celebration for my Mother was great! .... I'm still not feeling right. By now I should. I keep thinking next day will be okay again.

Last evening I worked on one of my Bachmann streetcars. It still needs more work. The Peter Witt model has great detail and looks great. However, the mechanism is way too flimsy in my opinion. It's hard to work on it.

Meanwhile, my GE 44T project is on hold. The first decoder was defective, and I sent it back for warrantee replacement. This is another Bachmann flimsy mechanism.

One more Bachmann model in trouble is my "doodlebug" gas electric motor car. Yet another Bachmann flimsy mechanism. This one needs new wheelsets, and they are not sold by Bachmann parts department.  Instead they have a complete power truck listed, but it is out of stock.  I see Northwest Short Line does sell a replacement power truck for this model, and I am considering it along with a high price.

Cheers

I agree completely.

Good morning, afternoon whatever. It's 84, humid, partly cloudy and sticky here. The high will be 90 with a heat index of 94.

Been working on the Peerless tractor all morning in preparation for removing the tranny. I was supposed to have help from my nephew on this but he evidently has better things to do as he never showed. I did as much as I could alone then packed up my tools. It's gotten to the heavy lifting stage and very few parts on that thing are light. If I can get his help I'll go back and work on it some more.

Good Evening Folks,

today was not as hot as yesterday, but humidity was high. Did not do much other than seeing my doc about a prescription for some pain meds and watch steam videos on youtube.com. If you are interest in some spectacular, professionally made videos, punch in the key words "Penny Steam" or "ACW71000" and you get a wealth of fantastic videos of steam trains in beautiful British countryside. Really worth watching!

It will cooll down in the coming days - hopefully, that will revive my spirits!

Everyone please take care!

Good Morning All,

Isolated T-Storms, 68F, 68% humidity, Hi today 75F.

Sue, that is very good news on the paintings.

Jeff, BNBX moves through here often. The open hoppers are normally bare aluminum and the covered hoppers are gray. The hoppers sometimes have the grimy brown staining from sitting too close to the power plants they serve.

Ulrich, glad things are benign for you. The day I was released from the hospital I woke up and had my street clothes on waiting for the doc to release me (much to the surprise of the ICU staff). I hope you stick around; there is always something to chat about….

Sue, how many hobbies do you have? Or should I ask if you have a day job, mountain climbing, swimming, horseback riding, quilting, model railroad stuff. Where do you find the time? :)

Mornin' everyone!

Ulrich!  Very good to see you sir.  Glad to hear the word Benign in your post!  THAT is a good word to hear at times... We all know how difficult things have been and are for you, but do come in a chat with your friends.  We like your company in here.  So don't hesitate to stop in as often as you can.  Hopefully as you recover you will feel more like talking.

Zoe, I'll have a couple sour cream glazed donuts and a cup of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug please.

We are getting some cool days for August around here.  August is usually the really hot one in this part of the country, but the air conditioners haven't been turned on for the last 4 days in my house.  High yesterday was 73°F and the low last night was 57°F.  More like end of September or early October.  It is currently 69°F with a predicted high of 77°F this afternoon here in the Finger Lakes region.

Today I will try to get caught up on some things stuck in the "to do" box for way too long.  Last night I finally wrote my article for the Flimsy (publication of the NFR, NMRA).  I still need to proof read it one more time and then email it to the editor.  I need to close out the books on the last year for the MLK Committee this week, which will take some time, and do more on the Blacksmith shop mold.  It is starting to look like a mold should look, BTW.

Last night I got tracks almost done on the top staging area and a Fast Tracks Turnout ready to be mounted in place.  After the turnout is in place I can finish hand laying all the track going up to the upper staging.  Then I can run some consists onto it and make sure the track works flawlessly!

Tonight is an operating session at one of our MMR's layout in Hammondsport, NY.  Always fun to operate trains there.  very well organized and usually a great bunch of guys there as well!

Catch you all later!

Good morning, Diners.  Chloe, I will have a black coffee in a NP mug, please.

I got home last night and Larry had added the Shay to his latest painting.  It's looking good.

Off to swimming,  Sue

Sir Madog

I am not sure how frequent I will be visiting this place in the future. There is little to talk about, as each day starts and ends as the day before, and not much is happening in between.I have lost a lot of momentum in recent months and don´t see a way to regain it. I am also pondering to step down from my post as moderator, as I don´t have the strength to do it right. I will give that decision some time to mature.

Gidday Ulrich, To get well you have to do what's best for you and your good lady, but as a relative newcomer to the forum in general, and infrequent visitor to "Elliots Diner" I just have to say that I've appreciated your varied posts such as this one

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/13/p/206049/2253830.aspx#2253830

and would like to think your health and spirit improves to see more of the same in the future.

While its only 2140 hours, 46F outside, with a forecast high of 62F with "fine spells" tomorrow, as I have a much earlier than normal start, I'm off to bed.

Best wishes and Thoughts to  all those that need them.

Cheers, the Bear.   (in New Zealand).

Continued thoughts and prayers for your recovery! Benign is INDEED a good word, {you didn't say this part, but:} that they "got it all" are ALSO good words!!!

Now, I don't often have much to "publish' here either...BUT I do it as it gives me something to look forward to each day, even if only to say "hi, laundry, dishes and Dr. visit done, now I nap, I am tired!".

So, I ENCOURAGE you to continue with us...!!!

Have a great day, ULRiCH!!!

Ken - you were right. I was in the forum for a brief moment, but not feeling well enough to post. Well, here is the story...

Good Morning Everyone.

I am back! A few days ago, that was not yet sure. The docs cut me up, took away an awful lot of material that was not supposed to be there, stitched me up again, making me feel like a roasted turkey on Thanksgiving, without the stuffing. I can´t say that I am feeling well, but I am home and that´s the most important thing. It´ll be a long and rocky road to improvement. I had hoped they´d kick me out of that place by Sunday, but no, they would not listen to my plea, I had to stay in another day and wait for the lab results to roll in. The key word to that is "benign", just an unwanted growth of some cells.

Christian and Petra joined me in the hospital on Sunday, so we had a little birthday party there. I felt sorry for my son having to travel, as Sunday proved to be the hottest day ever recorded in our area. Temperatures exceeding 100 F are highly uncommon here. Remember, A/C is unknown to us. Fortunately, it has cooled off a little, but not enough yet to feel comfortable.

Blessings to all of you & have a good day!

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Tuesday, August 21st, 2012!!!

{yes, already!}

What Am I doing up now? Too early for a morning greeting, though I will probably sleep late now that I am up now! Of course, I slept a LOT yesterday, so maybe I am DUE to be up this early?!

I am up because I got up to use the facilities and just couldn't get back to sleep!

Wrong! I actually kinda like it! I found it MUCH MUCH easier to adapt to than the previous "better upgrades"!!! {now,, how do I...}

I see Ulrich, too. Maybe he is just not feeling up to conversation right now. I Do know how that feels!! He might be back as verbose as ever soon!!!

I also see Jeffrey is still on, but he signed off to go to bed, so maybe Ulrich is NOT on, then? he just stopped in for a quick look-see?

Well, off  again!

Waiter, there is a fly in my Dr. Pepper!

I have seen the new forum and I must say that I do not like it. It looks like something made by a Kindergarten class. Jeff told me I had to see it if for no other reason to update my bookmarks. That is it for me today. For me it is still a work day. I will see you all another day.
