Gday folks...
I've not touched the layout for about a month due to a lack of time, but I've also become a little bored with it. I've been studying it over the last few days and I've decided to start over.
I've been looking at plans for the space I have and I'm going with a version of the project layout 'The Salt Lake Route' I'm going to use mostly the same track plan with a few minor changes on the Caliente side. The main advantage is it will be a double track main which for my Modern trains is a must.
The main reasons for the change are the fact I've grown bored with the design, the benchwork needs to be built better (It's over engineered!!) And the fact I used Code 80 has bugged me from day one. Plus it's always nice for a change.
Tomorrow I will start packing up the rolling stock and then begin with the staging yard tear down and then carefully remove all 350 trees, buildings and salvage as much track as possible to use for displaying my excess stock.
I will then next week go get some new supplies to start construction in the next week or two. So there you go.
Off to bed for me.

To be caught red-handed means that you have been caught in the act of doing something illegal. No excuses or alibi’s can be used, as your transgression is obvious, visible and undeniable. Usually related to stealing, with the stolen goods in your possesion. To be caught in this way has a legal term “in flagrante delicto”, which loosely translated means “in the progressing misdeed”. Therefore you are caught while you are doing something you should not be doing. The most common origin for the term red-handed is Scottish, (circa 1400ad), specifically related to poaching. In order to punish a poacher the legal system had to have undeniable proof the accused was guilty. After killing and skinning an animal, the poacher would have blood on his hands, and this would be the necessary proof required. Poacher was caught red hand, i.e. with blood on his hands. This expression has evolved to red-handed.
It is also believed in modern times to stem from Bank robbery, where the "dye money pack" COULD be red in color {or purple, green etc} and when released after the robber absconds with the money, the dye pack goes off and stains the robbers hands, thusly making them red..and so "caught red-handed" meant he had the dye on his hands.{or she}, proving guilt.

Have a GREAT day!!!

Flo, where is everybody been? Well I will drink alone because I am Bad To The Bone. Well if you get past the fat!
Curt, do you have a SEB Digitrax System or a Zephyr? Reason I ask is did you order the PR 14 power supply for the PR 3? In the stand alone mode (Programing) your PR 3 will need the power supply. I have not tried program yet with my PR 3 hooked to the DB 150 yet. But to run the throttles I do not have to use it. I will give it a try Saturday and I will let you know.
On some sound engines, you may need extra power to the programing rails to read and write CV's in stand alone mode. In my case I can read all my QSI, Loksound and Blue Line decoder except 1. Will not read or write to my Blue Line GE AC 6000, yet it works with my RSD 15? I will try the GE AC 6000 Saturday hooked to my Loconet settings and let you know.
Well I am off Saturday, so I will see you all latter.

Janie, just a decaf right now. Thanks!
Stayed pretty busy today. W*rked on the mailbox issue... Then put another turnout on the fast tracks ties and later installed it on the layout.
Then went over to Mabel's house. She was the official Mother to all of us in the Fine and Practical arts dept. at the Middle School years ago. We shortened her name a bit and dubbed her "Ma". She and her husband own a piece of land across from their house that had a limb get struck by lightning about a month ago. She has been pestering me to come over, cut it up and haul it away for firewood. So this afternoon I went over there and cleaned it up for her. I'll get a couple days worth of heat out of it, and then she gave me two jars of freshly made blueberry jam, a couple of Polish Cabbage Rolls, a peach, and a quart bag of freshly picked blueberries. Did I mention Ma used to teach Home and Careers (cooking was one of her areas) and she is a magnificent cook even in her 80's now. I think I got the best part of the deal... Her husband used to teach Social Studies and was a basketball coach at one time. Both of them are total characters. I enjoy being around them.
After consuming the most excellent cabbage rolls for supper, I headed back down to the layout (after unloading the pickup truck) and finished wiring the staging area. Here is a photo of the almost finished area. Curt, ask and thou shalt receive!
Other photos are over in the WPF thread.
Sure hope Barry made out well today and got good news!
Prayers for all in need! Have a great night everyone!

About all I accomplished today on the layout was to make the rear headlight on one of my GP7's light all the time whether it's running forward or backward. It's the last loco in a three loco consist (GP7 SHF (short hood forward)-GP35 LHF-GP7 SHF. The light flashes when the consist runs forward and lights steady when the consist runs backward. I may do the same on the other GP7 on the front headlight so it lights steady going forward and flashes when running backward. My only other accomplishment today was going to town and putting $20 worth of gas in the van.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening All,
Had kind of a busy day today. Had my final appointment with the Surgeon. Went up and observed Jon working on a customers layout (he does excellent work). Came home and removed all the wiring under the layout for all the Tortoises I have removed. It probably took 30 hours to wire up but 2 hours to take apart. After all this I was emailed from work to come in on Monday with food and clothing for a 72 hour hold over if the storm hits us, so off to Wally World I went.
Terry- I know I have said it before but thank you for your sons service and I say prayers for his safe keeping.
Ken- I was holding off buying the PR-3 until I met with the club guy but I don't know when that is going to happen. I received notice the PR-3 I ordered has been shipped.
Paul- I continue to say prayers for YOH.
Jeff- I hope everything works out with your Mom.
Barry- Hope you got the news you wanted with the bone scans.
Ulrich- The color change makes sense.
Darren- My surgeon just got back from a Alaska cruise and she was gushing about it.
Ray- More pictures of your progress please.

Nevada Paul,
The fuses in my power supply out by the unit in my back yard, usually die at least once a year,You can buy a couple of new ones for about $10 at home depot etc. (worth a try) if you have them. Also I thought I would mention to you that my a/c system has a small plastic box that sits on the floor next to the furnace It has some pvc pipes hooked to it and there is a pump inside that pumps the moisture from the system to the sewer. every now and then the switch or what ever is inside the box sticks and shuts off the unit in the back yard. I give it a good shake and it has allways started working again. if your system has one you might try it? It would probably make things a little better for your wife.

Go into work today at 2:00 AM, looks like I am the closer again. Oh well, someone has to do it. I have been getting Saturdays off as of late, wondering if I will be this Saturday.
Blood Sugar Wars Now I did go to bed a lot earlier last night than normal with me being off Thursday. Think I went to bed around 9:00 PM. When I work, I go to bed around midnight or 1:00 AM. Reason I brought it up was today at 9:00 AM I checked my Sugar Level. I have been having readings in the 170 range when I get up. Today it was only 147. While still high, way better than what I have been having.
Had 1 pieces of Whole Wheat Toast and 2 fried eggs for breakfast. Check my Sugar 2 hours later, it was 150. Well that is a small victory.
Lee Target levels would be between 70 and 120.
Curt, I thought you all ready had a PR3 from your reply in my JMRI post.
I see you all later.
Howdy everybody.

What I was wondering that anybody had noticed in my photo this morning was the presence of a GE U25B cab. It looks a bit out of place on an EMD GP7, even if it has been somewhat modified to a GP9.
Of course, asking if anybody sees something unusual or different on my locos (with a few exceptions) could be viewed as a trick question since almost all my locos differ from the standard.
jeffrey-wimberlyExactly right. I had to take that up with my father. Who's going to tend to her? Who's going to keep her clean? Who's going to prepare her meals? I tried to do that when she was bedridden previously and I ended up in the hospital because of it. Not again
Yes and the keeping clean part brings in a whole other um....modesty isn't the exact word I'm looking for but you get what I mean, issue when it's a Mother/ son. Some are not but many are and I don't mean in a nasty way. I know Brenda had to take care of certain issues with my Mom. You don't have that option.
As for the unusual in your roster....., well the unusual is almost the usual.

OK, I'll just go easy on it today, but get more in for me and put it aside so I can have it too...
Ulrich! Nice video... I think I would love to see those brutes in action!
Currently 77°F here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS with a high in the upper 80's by this afternoon. I promised a friend of mine I would remove a tree limb that fell on their property today... I'll be sure to take lots of water with me. My payment will be a jar of home made Blueberry Jam! She will call when they get back from a funeral they are going to early afternoon. Free wood and Blueberry Jam! Good deal I think.
Got a bit more done in the train room last night. Put down a bunch of ties connecting two turnouts, and started to hook up the electric to the upper staging.
Nice cool photo, Darren!

So, like I told Garry, at home with Chinese take out, I often, but not always, use chopsticks. Kinda neat and different I guess. Brenda usually does not though she tries sometimes. She has been to Japan and brought back with her several sets of Japanese chopsticks. If you don't know, Japanese chopsticks are different than Chinese chopsticks which I use. Japanese are tapered to a long point and Chinese generally are not and if they are, it’s a very dull point if you want to call it a point at all. With Japanese, you can stab your food and that is preeeeetty much what Brenda does. But they are more difficult to eat with because the pointy taper, to me, makes it difficult to pick stuff up. I'm sure the Japanese would disagree. They are also painted nice pretty colors with a slick finish which adds to my frustration. Anyway, a couple weeks ago, Brenda decides she wants to use chopsticks at the buffet. She naturally can’t stab so I’m showing her again, how to use them. Well here comes Suki. Now Suki speaks English better than most others so she will engage in light friendly conversation albeit very short. So she stumbles by, not our waitress that time, sees Brenda struggling and says “Oh, you not good with chopstick. You learn.” Looks at me and says ”You teaching her?” I said yes I’m trying and she left. This didn’t sit well with Brenda as she took it as rude WHICH once again brought on the lengthy explanation of how the Chinese don’t have all the words we doooo, and if they aren’t that well versed in the English language they don’t know all the schmooze words we doooo, and that you basically have to know what they mean. They more convey an idea of what they mean than the literal translation or meaning of the words they use. And once again, that’s why if you have three different translators for one sentence, you will probably get three different wordings of what they say. They will all mean the same thing providing they know what the person is talking about or the situation, but most likly wordes different unless they give you a literal translation which may or may not make much sense as we see it. But they could give you different meanings if they don’t know what the person is doing or referring to. Brenda does not get this and goes with what is spoken. She gets along better with the others who rarely say anything other than "you want to drink?" "done?" "you pay now?" "thank you real much bye bye". Personally I like the confusion. Makes for more interesting time.
Never have told Brenda I dated a Chinese girl for a few months after high school. United States born from U.S. born Parents, but a full blooder none the less with a very slight accent and only on some words. IIRC she said they only spoke English at home and though she new enough to hold a reasonable conversation she wasn't fluent. If she knew, then I’d probably have to convince her every time that I am not going there because they remind me of an old girlfriend. Been through that before at Walmart with a blonde at the checkout who I was nice to, as I am with most all people, but Brenda swore she reminded me of an old girfriend. Personally, I still don’t think a smile and a response of “Thank you, you have a wonderful day too” was flirty. My wife on the other hand…
TMarsh Jeff- I hope your Mother is better about being in a Nursing Home. I hate them but you are correct. It all sounds nice to tell someone they need to tend to their elders and that’s all fine and dandy until they have to deal with it. A lot easier said than done and in todays world, it’s just not that easy to give up a job and survive. Let alone add another expense of care to the mix. And we don’t even need to mention the physical requirements needed.

Good Morning!!!
Coffee and a waffle please. Yes butter and reeeeeal maple syrup. Thank you. Some of Ray’s stash. I’ll be gone before he gets in and he’ll never know.
Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 96.
Lee- I can’t believe you’ve never heard of Elkhart, Illinois. (actually pronounced Ee-lee-nwah. Sounds French don’t it. That’s cause it is. Just ask one. They’ll tell you.) It’s just bout 5 mile up 55 from Williamsville. Bustling town of 500ish. Little Bar/Restaurant there serves great fried chicken on Wednesdays and great Catfish on Fridays. Just don’t eat there for breakfast. I think they charge that much cause they have to pay the cook extra to get out of bed to cook it for you.
Nevada Paul- If the breaker isn’t tripped and the outside switch hasn’t been thrown (if you have one) then I’d say that something’s more than likely wrong somewhere with the AC . Just a guess. Praying things work out well for the wife next week.
Garry- Chopstick? Oh, another touchy subject. Yes and no. Yes I can but not usually. I use more at home than in public. I eat rice and as you know, rice and chopstick not mix well no. If I were to pick up the plate and rake the rice into my mouth the Chinese wouldn’t look twice at me. The American customers on the other hand, would stare and think I was a pig and Brenda would…… well let’s just say she wouldn’t be pleased. So I usually stick with fork.
Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

JaBear: Thanks for the photos. That model looks like what was known as "D Model" many years ago. It was used as a slick and carried troops and cargo. The only weapons would have been door mounted M-60 machine guns. Huey's will see service throughout the world for many years, just as the old C-47's did. A simple but very durable and rugged aircraft. It was an extremely interesting and rewarding experience.

Good Morning All,
67F, 68% humidity, Hi today 87F.
I had the opportunity to log into the forum from IE9 and from my smart phone and I have to admit that the form looks and operates great! Now we just need everyone that uses the diner to buy a new computer with windows 7 and IE9 and that should stop all the complaints and minimize the reports of bug fixes.
What they really need is a MRR APP for the IPhone. I’ve been watching for one to come out. I’m actually surprised they haven’t released one yet.
Ulrich I guess that swipe over the stars only works in IE9? I’m still using IE7 here in the office.
Paul, I hope the docs can help her keep food down, that can get serious after a while. I agree maybe a supplemental shake to help keep something in her will help out? We are having the same mail issue at my Aunt’s old house, there is no renter in there right now and it has one of those mail slots that drop the mail onto the floor inside. The neighbor’s daughter is getting married and we had to walk about 100 RSVP envelopes over.
Well too bad the outside air handler wasn’t the easy fix that means there is a chance you need a new unit. Try and get the highest SEER number you can, the higher the number the higher the efficiency and that means some savings on your electric bill. I’m guessing you have a SEER 10 or a SEER 13 right now.
Ken, I’m pretty dumb about blood sugar, but with my current medical condition I’ve been rated borderline diabetic by the Doc. Is blood sugar supposed to be over a 100 or is 100 the target goal? Next month I have to do the 8 hours of testing again to see if the surgery corrected my PTH scores or if we over corrected the hyperparathyroidism condition. When I left the hospital on July 1st my PTH score was less than 4. Before surgery my PTH was over 300, anyway I’ll find out what my blood sugar level is then.
Jeff, hopefully your mother’s health will improve and she can move back home. The number I see when you hover over the stars is (I think) your member number. Unless you have over 203,000 posts and I know I don’t have over 302,000 posts.
I hear my LHS is in trouble, sales dropped last year and this year they dropped another 40%. Rumor mill reports they are looking for a smaller store to move into. The local Hobby Town moved to a smaller store 2 years ago when their AC bill hit $5,000 one month.

Good Morning Folks!
Our weather is back to normal, which means it is a lot cooler now and wet - just in time for the weekend. We are invited to a BBQ at a friend´s place on Saturday, but I doubt that this will take place.
Garry - the post count is back, just swipe over those red stars and you see how many posts the contributor has. The location is still missing - I am sure it´ll be back soon.
Curt - in pre-WW I times, the various state railroads in Germany all had their own paint schemes, which wee nearly as colorful as in Britain. In 1920 all these railways were merged into Deutsche Reichsbahn and the locos received a uniform paint job with wheels, frame and front/end beams in red, all other parts in black. Red was chosen to alert people of moving parts, not to detect oil leaks more easily. After a few days of hard service, the red was more into a brown anyway.
Today, I will be busy learning how to use Templot, a turnout design software based on prototype dimensions and relations. It is not a track planning tool, but can be employed as such if you intend to hand-lay your track. However, there is a tremendous learning curve to that software.
Have a good one!
Howdy ...
Hey ... Has anyone seen Sam of Mississippi? ... It's been a while since he was in the diner.
Ulrich .... I like your steam video. That's a nice old family picture. Our visit to my mother last week included going through old family pictures. As for the forum, I think there were several well intended suggestions, but evidently the new forum thread was knocked out. I assume we are not supposed to talk about it. I don't see a post count, and I don't see where people are located anymore.
Paul ... Praying your wife's treatment goes well.
CN Charlie. I hope your friend continues to be okay. That must have been a real scare. .... Thanks for thinking of me. When I was very young I was growing up along the CB&Q while some steam locomotives were still operating. I recall the ground shaking with each big "chuff". Whistles had a good sound.
Todd ... Do you use chop stick, too?
Ray ... I hope the solar system woks well for you.
Sue ... I think I heard taxes were high there. Here taxes are higher than I would like but not as bad as other places.
Curt .... Thanks for thinking of me. Now I think I was traveling sooner than I should have. Still hurting but trying to ignore that.
On my railroad, I completed repairs for my Bachmann streetcar. It was a "15 minute project".
Do some of you guys have "15 minute projects". .... They are the ones that should be simple and quick, but instead take hours as a seemingly never ending series of unexpected problems delay completion. ... My streetcar should have been a quick fix just changing the motor, but the mechanism in the trucks came apart. It took a while to get all of the tiny little parts back where they belonged.
Happy Model Railroading
