Good Morning!!!
Coffee and a celebratory sweet roll because it sounds like good news in the diner!!!!
I see they’ve taken rain out of the forecast. It now says: Areas of fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 88.
Barry-
Stan- I’m sorry about your Father. Glad to see you stop in though. Nice painting too!
THER YA GO RAY!!!! My thoughts exactly. If you’re gonna go to the trouble of keeping some weed alive, you oughta at least be able to eat it. Or some part of it anyway.
Ulrich- Sorry about the letter. Maybe the fates knew of the health issues and are waiting for those to pass? I hope so.
Yes I saw the thread about Wolfgang. Dropped off my condolences. Sad.
Welp once again, don’t know what’s in store for moi. (that’s Spanish by the way of which I’m fluent) Still have some odds and tiny ends in the bathroom that I’ve put off for the last couple days. Just received an e-mail the shower door showed up yesterday (? Sunday ?) yep, it said yesterday and is ready for pick up so I’ll get it today as tomorrow is Brenda’s surgery on her elbow and with w**k in the afternoon I doubt I’ll get a chance to get it.
Need to do some picking up around the house too. Walls are starting to close in. Again.
Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Stan, Sad news about you father. I didn't know that you were a painter. Thanks for sharing it.
Garry, I hope you get good news from your heart surgeon.

Gonna be dull and dribbly here for a bit...thunderboomers later on.

Morning, all. Making a little cameo appearance here at the Diner.
Sad news about Wolfgang. Always seemed like a nice fellow from his posts.
Jeffrey - Whereabouts in Louisiana are you? The forecasters have kept pushing Isaac farther and farther west for the past several days, and now the Louisiana coast is in the crosshairs again. You and Drew Brees are the only guys I 'know' in those parts. Hope you're not too severely affected by landfall. The five-day track has the storm still holding together as a tropical depression all the way up here in Indiana by the weekend which is very unusual - while it may only put a damper (so to speak) on my plans to attend Saturday's Purdue football game, the coast may once again be in real danger. Stay safe.

TO Eat Crow, or humble pie:
eat crow - acknowledge a mistake (giving rise to personal discomfort), suffer humiliation - the expression's origins are American, from imagery and folklore from the late 19th century. Crow would have been regarded as a rather distasteful dish, much like the original English Umble Pie metaphor from the 1700s (see Eat Humble Pie below). According to etymologist James Rogers, eating crow became the subject of a story reported in the Atlanta Constitution in 1888, which told the tale of an American soldier in the War of 1812, who shot a crow during a ceasefire. A British officer complimented the soldier on his shooting and asked to see the gun, which when handed to him, he turned on the soldier, reprimanding him for trespassing, and forcing the soldier to eat a piece of the dead crow. However, on having the gun returned to him, the soldier promptly turned the weapon on the officer, and made him eat the rest of the crow.
eat humble pie - acknowledge one's own mistake or adopt a subordinate position, particularly giving rise to personal discomfort - nothing to do with the word 'humble' originally; 'umbles' were the offal of animals hunted for their meat; while the lord and his guests dined on venison, his hunting staff ate pie made from the umbles. The word 'umbles' is from 16th century England and had been mistranslated into 'humble' by the late 19th century (Brewer references it in his dictionary of 1870).

Flo, coffee and a cinnamon roll, please.
Well, our labor administration refused my application to pay for the training, so this gives me a chance to file an appeal, which I did. The outcome is open ... European railroads are short of 15,000 engineers, so there´s be also an opening for me, but only if I have the license. Frankly, I don´t give it much of a chance
Stan - my sincere condolences on the passing of your father.
Wolfgang Dudler has passed away last week. You all remember his contributions to this forum. He was not able to finish his last project, the Pueblo & Salida HOn3 modular layout. Wolfgang was an outstanding model railroader, a fountain of information and advice, and a warm and friendly man, In Germany, he was the motor of of the US prototype model railroading community. He will be missed!
Have a good day!
Packerbut I have one of the F45s because I had to re-solder some wires. IIRC, they are about a pound each. How big do they let the trains get at K10?
During open house, I think it is about 20 or so. Lot of people (None engineer's) type so they keep the trains short. When I pulled 75 cars with the PCM Y6B it was a Christmas Party and few where invited. So I had plenty of room. When I tried 100 cars I picked a section that had tighter turn. It was this section shown with my RSD 15.
And they string lined, in other words they fell over on to there sides.
Might be time to try for a 100 again, if Ken will let me when the layout is not being ran.

Stan, sorry to hear about your father
Ken, as far as the rio grandes, the B is mostly stripped but the A is giving me fits. It's been soaking since I've gotten it and hardly anything has come up. I don't have the SD45s to weigh right now, but I have one of the F45s because I had to re-solder some wires. IIRC, they are about a pound each. How big do they let the trains get at K10? I doubt I could fit enough cars on my local MR club layout to see what they'd pull.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Evening Folks,
Stan, sorry to hear of your father's passing. Prayers to you and your family.
Just returned from the hospital. Wife tried some solid food this afternoon, but after about 45 minutes it did not sit well, so she is back on IV and a liquid diet, probably untill we get back from Stanford. Made reservations at a hotel near the medical center that caters to patients there, so they gave us a pretty good rate.
I hope everyone down south stays safe during Issac's visit.

Good evening, DIners .....
Looks like the Chapel Car should be dispatched to the diner for prayers. Stan: our thoughts and prayers to you regarding your Dad's passing. Paul in NV: prayers for your wife and for her recovery from illness. On going prayers for other Diners dealing with various issues. Prayers for those in the path of the storm in the Gulf.
Stan ... While I'm glad to see you again, I'm saddend by your news. Also, when you can get to it, I'm still thinking of the CB&Q steam painting. I like the Santa Fe painting!
Chris ... Nice progress on the roundhouse.
Sue ... New models of CB&Q F-units look white, but are very light gray. I have weathered a few of my CB&Q F-units, but somehow, it really don't like doing it even though it makes them look more real.
I'm going tomorrow to Nashville, TN for medical appointments. I'm hoping the heart surgeon will say it is okay to wait a long time for the the next operation. I still hurt since the recent one.
Not too much done on the layout. Too much non-model-railroad-stuff. .
Cheers, everybody.

Man I am beat! We closed at 6:00 PM and I got out the door around 8:00 PM. I had fair sales, but most things are heavily discounted right now and I did not make squat!
Sue, Glad you like the you like the picture. It is great if you like pink bloops in the upper left corner!
Barry, I am guessing as well it was good new's? About time we have some around here!
Stan, Great to see you back, sorry about your dad.
Vince's " 2 Athearn Genesis F45s and 2 P2K SD45s. Each one individually would pull close to 100 cars on the level out of the box" s much as I like Proto's I would have to see that! My best pulling engines where PK 2000 E 6's (not counting my PCM Y6 b) and a pair pulled 65 cars here at the house with its tight turns. Never ran out of pulling power, it was the turns that caused problems. Ever strip the Rio Grands?
Todd, more than likely I will not have anything to worry about this coming weekend, well with the way I look now! Only thing I have in common with the way I looked then 6'4" and 215 pounds and now. Well I am still 6'4"!
Ulrich Sorry to hear the rejection letter! Was it because of health issues or do they ever give a reason?
See you all later.
Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a cup of decaf... Oh you read my mind. Thank you Ma'am!
Stan, I wondered what had happened to you. Very sorry to hear of your father passing. I do hope you are keeping the painting for yourself and to pass on down through your family. It is always good to have thing that you made held special by someone you love. Take care and good to have you back on board!
The mailbox has been restructured and is all back together and the post painted. It has a new mailbox on it as well. The old one needed to be replaced anyway, so this was a good time to do it. Neighbor across the street was out checking it all over this afternoon.... After I'm sure what I have done is acceptable to both the post office and the city, I will make a couple other changes to add a hanging flower basket on it next year. Hopefully next year will be the year for some major landscaping around the place. Several smallish trees and a large rock around which I will plant strawberries (why have flowers if you can't eat them?). I hope this fall to start a couple raised bed gardens back where my old garden was.
Also got more stuff done on the layout. Made a few hundred more ties and installed many to almost complete the upper tracks to the Upper Staging. Also got about 15 foot of rail in (just one side) goiung over the little bridge and to the lower staging. If all goes well, by tomorrow night I should be able to run the first train into the lower staging.
Hope all the southern guys on here stay safe over the next few days with Isaac coming to pay a visit...
Have a good night. Prayers for all in need!

Stan: Sorry to hear of your father's passing. I hope you and the family are doing OK.
Hey Fellas, It's been a while. This has been a most difficult summer for me and my family, but I thought it was time to drop by the diner to say hi. After a long illness, my father passed away on August 10th. The strongest man I ever knew just couldn't fight anymore, and pnumonia finally took him. He was more concerned about us, I had to keep him posted on my work with the museum, and he wanted to see every painting I completed. This one became his favorite, so I hung it on the wall in his room to the end:
As my family and I move on, my focus is now on our newest museum projects, keeping my 4 sons involved, and of course painting and modeling here at home. Here is my favorite picture of Dad working at East Salamanca as a 2nd trick operator on the B&O in 1967:

Chris: Good freight station mock-up.
Got a short video today of my three GP9F's (F = Frankenloco) pulling a string of twenty-one NMRA weighted cars. That's no light load.
Afternoon guys
Just dropping in before Issac shows up. Been prepping the house and moving my brother's Miata indoors. Given it's a rag top and is very light (I think it's like 1,000 pounds less than my 3,400 pound mustang) we don't want it getting blown into another car. Every car that is stuck outside weighs over 3,400 lbs so hopefully they stay put.
Work has been eventful. The management changed shifts when one went to the hosptial. So I got stuck with the slack-off manager during the busy parts of the day. She's like having a 200 lbs sack of patatoes in your way at all time. When she should be working she's chatting with her guy on the work phone (I overheard something about a few grams of something, I wouldn't be suprised if it was drugs), texting, out back smoking, or in the office on the internet. No one like her because of that, and it's a wonder she still works...
As far as trains, I picked up 2 stewart sound chassis for F-units, a bag of 100 36" metal wheelsets, some scalecoat easy off paint stripper, and some other odds and ends. I've been running a 4-unit set at the club now. Ken would probably like this one, 2 Athearn Genesis F45s and 2 P2K SD45s. Each one individually would pull close to 100 cars on the level out of the box, but I managed to add a little weight to each. I'd run out of cars before figuring out how much they'd pull all together. I did run into an issue with one of the F45s, 2 of the wires I soldereded broke, so it was only picking up power from the rear truck. It also derailed the rear truck in one spot on the club layout, but I think it's the track as there is a noticable kink.

Ulrich, sorry to hear about your application being denied.
TSF, I never understood that about college. One has to take classes not pertaining to the choosen field. I had to take Biology, Psychology, Art, and 2 courses of English for a drafting degree. They were easy for me, but the English killed me and delayed my progress by a couple of years. What's worse was it wasn't my fault. All 3 of the different English instructors I had were at the opposite end of the political spectrum than me, and the first 2 docked my grade on the final exam/paper enough to not let me pass at the end. So by the time I found out about that, it was already in the records. The last one was the farthest from me on the spectrum, but she gave me As on my papers because I brought up a lot of facts. I think I got lucky with the 3rd for that, but I guess for College English writing the following hold true:
1. If possible, stay on the side of the political spectrum as your instructor or at least be in the middle in the papers.
2. Don't make comments about their ideological figures.
3. If you are going to go against 1 and 2, use facts that can't be disputed. I always broke my final instuctors arguements because she could never counter aside from the usual stuff when one's arguement is broken.
Goooooooood Evening, hope all are well or as well as they can be at the moment.
I thought I'd stop by and see how many of those Soviet medals I've "won" by coming here and flapping my jaws over the past few years.
Also, thought I'd tack up a pic of my rude, crude, not even glued full-size (for HO) mock-up of the Illinois Central Freight Station THAT used to sit in the shadows of Quaker Oats and the 6th St. Power Station. Since drawing track plans is getting me nowhere, I've resorted to doing what I should've been doing all along: mocking up stuff, setting track pieces in place and finding out "in real time" what will or will NOT w**k.
THAT just seems a lot easier for me.
Best wishes continue for all in need, and those dealing with Isaac.

jeffrey-wimberly pascaff* I hate when I put something away for safe keeping. I have about 20 Caboose Industries ground throws from my last layout and knew I was going to want them again so I put them where I could easily get them before other layout stuff, like scenery material, buildings, detail parts. I can not remember where I put them I always find stuff like that when I no longer need it. I then put it somewhere else so it'll be easier to find then the next time I need it I can't find it -- AGAIN! * * Ulrich: Sorry to hear your application was refused. The job market there must be as bad as it is here.

I think losing things is just part of the hobby. You see, then you get to go through the joys of buying them again, only to find the originals AFTER you get the new ones...either that or there is a seriously large black hole that swallows up everything in sight...
ulrich: Sorry to hear of this latest refusal....

I can not remember where I put them With boxes of model stuff along with other keepsakes, I have about thirty places to look in the garage, and it is HOT out there. It may have to wait until October.
Wife is getting much needed nutrition through IV into a power port. Looks and feels better and a bit stronger.
After I finish reading the forums, I have to finish glass bedding a rifle for a friend of mine, and then off to the hospital later. So it looks like I will not get much railroading done.
Good morning to all. I goofed friday. Didn't see that I hit T O P. SO,to make up for it, my credit card for today and tomorrow..
Jeff- Your layout is to clean. Hardly recognize it.
Been up on a ladder sawing a long tree limb that was over my roof. Its gone now. Waiting for the winds and rain to start ,worse thing is possible tornadoes. Looks like the gulf coast will be in harms way. From NW Fla. to Texas. Prayers for it not to do what we know it can. Batten down the loose things and cover the windows. Our storm shutters are all screwed down.
Wish all of you the best.

My application for locomotive engineer´s training has been turned down, I feel a little depressed. Would have been fun.
