Time for me to duck out of here. Weather's starting to get nasty. Sustained wind is at 40-45 mph with gusts of 55+ mph. I can hear tree branches snapping and crashing to the ground. I think one of my neighbors has lost part of his corrugated steel roof. I heard a loud metallic crash from that direction about thirty minutes ago. Can't guarantee I'll be back on tomorrow but I'll be back when I can. See y'all soon hopefully.

Winds getting pretty stiff here and the power has gone out a couple of times. Looks like this is the beginning of what could be an interesting few days. At least I got my windshield wipers fixed. Just looked at the forecast and it's just lovely if you're a duck tethered to a boat anchor. Wind and rain, rain and wind. Wind is up to 45 mph.
PackerJeff, When were your engines blue and yellow?
Finally sarting to rain here in Mississippi, and it's not going to stop if the T.V's right .
Vincent, I really wouldn't know, but off the top of my head I would say Gulfport and Biloxi are the two largest, keeping in mind that we have less than 100 miles of coastlines.

Afternoon guys
Well we're stillunder Issac, but it's sunny out. Just really windy. I've been helping my father change the heater core in his 1990 mustang. I also tested out that Scalecoat wash-away on the DRGW shell that wouldn't strip. 5 minutes in the stuff and the paint is lifting off in sheets. I stuck the 2 sound/dcc chassis under my 2 Black Widow F-units. They sound really good and run well too. As for the paint stripper, I think I know what's in it. It has ammonia by the smell, but may be highly concentrated 409 or Simple green.
I went to the MR club last night and ran my F45/SD45/SD45/F45 consist. I pulled the second F45 off because I didn't like the horn sound. Now I don't have sound. It has a shut-down feature, but I don't know how to turn it back on. I'm gonna try it again next tiem I go over, if it doesn't work I could call athearn for a new board. It's MRC, so I could get a soundtraxx instead.
Thanks for the birthday wishes guys (and Sue). My birthday went okay, unfortunately all the money I recieved went into re-registering my car. It used to be 30 bucks a month when I got my licsence, but now it's close to $75.
Jeff, When were your engines blue and yellow?
Ulrich, I'm a few miles northwest of the 2nd little waterway in NW florida, before the part where the hump is in the panhandle.
Sam, How many big cities along the coast are there in Mississippi? I think Biloxi is the only one and I don't think it's very big.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Morning All,
Currently 60 with an expected high of 94, glad I got the A/C fixed.
Doctor here and the one at Stanford decided my wife was too weak to make the trip, so they decided to treat her here. She started the chemo therapy last night, four meds at one time, every 28 days is the regiment right now. I will go into the hospital later and maybe stop by the only hobby shop in town that carries model railroad stuff.
Galaxy - I for one enjoy the tid-bits on how the phrases came to be. Very interesting
Ken - Working retail and service is a pain with many customers. At my job we seem to cowtow to every stupid whim of customers. In my part time business, I have more leeway to deal with customers that are not upfront with me to begin with.
Going to try and weather some track before I head to the hospital.
Prayers to all in need and those in Issac's path.

Well it is that time again. Yep back to work. Just hope i have a better day than yesterday.
Ran the heck out of the trains last night! Had 3 trains running on the A Line and 2 on the B Line. Using the JMRI throttles on the computer all most made it easy, still had to keep a eye on them.
I am off Thursday, not looking forward to it either! Another trip to the VA Hospital to see the Surgeons. I am sure they will be cutting on my feet some more. Personally I think they just like to cut on things. But, they claim they have to keep the wounds clear of calluses so they will heal properly.
See you after work!
Ken
I hate Rust
Winds picking up here. Nothing spectacular yet but it could make driving an RV interesting. I picked up the wiper motor for the van and installed it. Yay! I have wipers again! On the brake caliper and pads, the store didn't have them in stock and had to order them. They should be in by tomorrow noon. At present I'm at my parents place but I'll be going home shortly.
Mornin'... Ah, Afternoon folks!
Chloe, I'll I'll have a toasted ham and cheese on 12 grain bread please, and a glass of real lemonade for lunch.
Nice cool day here in the Finger Lakes region, Currently 69°F with a high in the low 70s for the day.
Looks like the mid-west may get some of the remnants of Issac. They can use the rain for sure...
I have spent the morning trying to figure out who to contact to 'legally' dispose of the old railroad ties. I called my trash company that had told me "no problem" they can pick them up on your regular day. The lady on the phone now says, "Sorry they are one of the few items we can't handle and told me to call the Town of Geneva. I don't live in the Town of Geneva, but will call later to see who they tell me to call... And so it goes!
Galaxy, have fun at Steamtown!
Jeffrey, hope you are safe and still have electric. Prayers for all in harm's way!

Well well
I got the grocery, banking and pharmacy done. Its getting so I dread going to the grocery store. It costs and costs and gets you very little!
Now all to do is to get the free bread down the street, then off to do dishes and some desperate laundry needs done. {put it off to long}
When MOH comes home has to mow the lawn..if what they say is true, we may get backlash form Isaac meaning lots of rain here...hopefully AFTER Saturday.
Why after Saturday? cause we are going to Steamtown for Rail Fest 2013. Doesn't look to be eventful {fewer visiting locos that we haven't seen yet} but it will be our steam loco fix for the summer. Taking train nut friend. May also investigate the Houdini museum while there too.Yes a Harry Houdini museum!
The park is mowing empty lot yards. They always set the tractor's mower to low and throw rocks at our trailer! Good thing they haven't yet broken a window!!! We'll not be happy then!
Well off to get the bread.
Oh, is everybody enjoying the tid-bits on how certain phrases came to be in my morning posts, or is it just a waste of my time?

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
Sir Madog I am worried about Jeff. According to the radar picture I have, hurricane Issac must be right over him right now. I hope and pray he is alright!

Wow. If that map is right, I am in the red and not a drop of rain yet. Weird huh?
Good morning. It's 78° with 80% humidity. A tropical storm warning and a flash flood watch are in effect. Tropical storm conditions possible with a fair chance of thunderstorms. The high will be 85° and will feel like 91°.Getting ready for a bunch of rain here. Wind gusts are up forty mph. I'm looking for the weather to start getting nasty by late afternoon/evening. If the power goes I'll be grabbing the stuff from the fridge/freezer and take it down to my parents place where the fridges and freezers will be powered by a generator. This morning I'll be going to town to pick up the wiper motor and caliper for the van. Might as well grab a set of brake pads too. I checked the price of the caliper with Advance, Autozone and O'Reilly. They all want the same price - $14.99. Advance wants $10 core charge, the other two want $17. So I can get everything in one place. The pads are pretty much the same price at all three places, differing by $1 up or down.Got a busy morning. Catch y'all later.
Good Afternoon Folks!
The sun´s out for a change, making it a pleasant day. Who´s joining me for an RBF? It´s on me, folks!

Have a good one!
Tom, Conneaut, OH; not a lot of train action up there, Ashtabula has more going on at the port. The Union RR runs from Pittsburgh to Conneaut and CN has a terminal in Conneaut. In Ashtabula you have the NS coal dock and coal yard. The coal yard has a shaker that transfers the coal to the far side of the river then they have a giant wheel machine that loads the ships. On top of the hill on the west bank there is a maritime museum.
CN Charlie, I hope the eye drops work for you. Some of my relatives have had the corrective surgery and they were very happy with the 20/20 vision afterwards. If you’re going to wire your “Hydro” poles I highly recommend the elastic thread. Berkshire junction sells it in oxidized copper, black, and a rusty brown color. Jo Ann fabrics (a sewing and craft store) sell it in various colors. The nice thing with the elastic thread is if you bump into it stretch without breaking the poles. It’s also easier to apply tension to the line or dip the line due to the weight and elasticity.
Ray, looking good!
Jeff, I spoke to the marine engineers yesterday. Cummings bought out Onan, but the engineers agree that any facility that caters to commercial vessels would have Onan parts available for their direct drive or Generator products.

Ooo! Pictures! Pretty pretty pictures of great looking layouts.
Coffee and two eggs over easy, I’m sorry, medium ( I like my whites cooked), hash browns and a short stack of blueberry buttermilk flapjacks with some real blueberry syrup please. Thanks.
Sunny, with a high near 92. Looks like we’ll see what’s left of Isaac bout Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Calling for anywhere between 2.5” and 3.5” of much needed rain.
Ray- Yep I gots me one of them there smarty fones too. Talks to me and all. Took me three days to get it to be used as a phone. Instructions were online and told me everything but how to use the phone. Don’t know if mine can be turned off either. Couldn’t find that. Did manage to find a switch on the side that turns off the ringer which is acceptable for me. Ya know though, I hate to admit this, I reeeeeally do, but I kinda like the internet access part. I’ve used that quite a bit.
Siri and I apparently speak a different language, though she does call me “Master” from time to time. Appropriate if you ask me.
Don’t talk about Mi-i-ippi? (remember I’m from Illinois where we don’t use the letter “s”) Couldn’t tell you. I don’t watch the news. Reason? Just as Ray said. They only like the flash and twist it to be that way if it’s not enough. Is it anymore racist than any other state? Who knows. Media won’t let racism alone. They always bring it up and stir the pot. If they would ignore it, well…..maybe…. Never know. I mean in theory, the majority of the US has no problem with race based on who won the election for President. If they were truly racist, they wouldn’t care if he was the best thing in the world, they’d vote for a blithering idiot first. Wait, that describes 99% of all politicians. But you get what I mean.
Jeffrey- That’s why I only use credit cards for online business. If the company “loses control” of my number, then the money charged is just a suggestion until I actually pay. They can charge $5000 and it won’t cost me a dime. If it comes out of my checking, then well….I’m broke until something gets done. Only place has my account number is the credit card company. So far Discover has been swell and no issues. Oh and the phone company. Most everything else gets charged to the card and paid off at the end of the month. I treat a CC like an extension of my checking account. If I can’t pay it off at the end of the month, it don’t get charged unless an emergency. No interest is charged and cash back. No not much, but…. hey, I’ve made more money off the cash back program than interest on my savings. Waaaaaaay more.
Charlie- Glad they caught the glaucoma.
Welp, through a series of mishaps yesterday, I shall install the shower door today. I hope.
Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

GOOD MORNING!!!
Bill has provided the date,
it is only 118 days til Christmas!!!
Sometimes, when we get our trackwork done, we give it the "ACID TEST".
SO:
" acid test - an absolute, demanding, or ultimate challenge or measure of quality or capability - deriving from very old times - several hundreds of years ago - when nitric acid was used to determine the purity or presence of gold, especially when gold was currency before coinage. Gold does not dissolve in nitric acid, whereas less costly silver and base metals do. The use of nitric acid also featured strongly in alchemy, the ancient 'science' of (attempting) converting base metals into gold"
We often also have a LOT of PARAPHERNALIA with which to execute our hobby, SO:
paraphernalia - personal belongings, or accessories, equipment associated with a trade or hobby - original meaning from Roman times described the possessions (furniture, clothes, jewellery, etc) that a widow could claim from her husband's estate beyond her share of land, property and financial assets. Derived from the Greek, 'parapherne' meaning 'beyond dower' (dower meaning a widow's share of her husband's estate).
Happy Wednesday!

Been one of those days! I seem to be a Idiot Magnet! Seems I get ever Dumb Butt that walks through the door here lately! I won't going to details but I am starting to hate people! I want a job carrying a box!
Last customer of the day was a come back. They had been in the day before with a vibration problem. We rotated the tires and balanced them. They called back later that day and said there was less vibration, but there was still one at around 45 to 50 Mph. Told them on the phone " It sounds like a bent rim " but we will check for you again. Reason I said that I have found out of balances tires shake at around 55 to 65 MPH (unless badly out of balances" but bent rims show up at around 35 to 45 MPH.
They came back, guess what? The right rear wheel was egg shaped, reason the abbreviation was less was because it was moved to the rear when we rotated the tires not on the front! Called them and offered to let them see the wheel on the spin balancing machine. They declined. When they picked up there SUV they told me "well the wheel was not bent when we brought it in yesterday"! What can you do but smile and give then a phone number to a company that fixes bent wheel's?
That was the easy part of the day I will add!
Jeffery, have you checked the brake hose to the caliper? If the brake fluid is not flushed every 60,000 miles it will make the inside of the brake hose soft and it will suck close and lock up the caliper. While it does not happen often, with the age of your Van, well it could be the problem!
Trains are running fine tonight, thank goodness like I could stand another headache today.
Good Morning! from Tipton IN.

Charlie, Do you have a regular schedule of changes of time periods on the layout? Could be a fun thing to do!
Jeffrey and others down in the Gulf area... Do stay safe, dry, and may the electric stay on so you can play with trains during the storm!
Finally... I have the tracks all installed leading to the lower staging area on the SLOW. Most all the tracks are hand laid code 83 and have Fast Tracks Hand Laid turnouts as well. A few areas that will not show and the tracks in the staging area itself are Atlas code 83, but about 85% of this whole rebuild is hand laid track. Please pardon the mess, as this was the first test run of a train into the staging area, and there is still some track to be laid and adjustments to be made before adding details, paint, and ballast to the trackage. In the next couple days the route into the upper staging should be finished as well. Here is tonight's successful run (only two miss-wired frogs that were easy fixes...).
Hope you all have a good (and safe) night! Prayers for all of you in harms way!
Good Evening from Winnipeg,
For those of you who might not be familiar with our , not so fair city, it is about 60 miles north of North Dakota. Just keep going on I 29 and you will wind up here provided you do make a stop at the border unless you want an all inclusive vacation with guards.
We continue to be hot here and are supposed to reach 34C tomorrow which is over 90F.
Stan, great to see you back but the news wasn't so great. Look forward to seeing you post pictures of your paintings.
Well my friend who had the heart attack at our house a week ago Sunday is at home and doing very well.
I found out yesterday that I have glaucoma which I expect I inherited from my father. There hasn't been any damage to my sight as they caught it early and with medication it can be well controlled. I start the drops tonight so I hope they do the job.
Not much new on the RR front. I have been running my CN diesels as August has been diesel month on the Mortimer sub. Back to steam come Sept. and likely stay that way for some time as we are going back in time from 1959 to 1955. Only have to take one vehicle off the layout to make the time switch. I finally finished painting the utility poles or hydro poles as we call them. Next will be installing them but I don't plan on using the thread that came with them for the power lines. Sure way to insanity as far as I'm concerned and my wife says it might be short trip so best stay away from that.
CN Charlie
Time for me to call it a night. It's been a tiring day. Tropical storm conditions may be possible tomorrow with a fair chance of rain. See y'all tomorrow, weather permitting.
Been busy today. Had to go to the bank to fix some account problems. A site I decided to do business with (no names on a public forum) decided I should do business with some other companies without my authorization and ran my account $51 into the red. Since all they had was a debit card number I got a new debit card with a new number. That'll fix their wagon! The bank is taking steps to see that the money is refunded. In the meantime I had to go get a loan refinanced so I could get money to fix the account. Since I have some extra $$$ I ordered the windshield wiper motor ($55) for my van. I go to pick it up tomorrow. Looks like need to get a caliper for the left front also. The old one is locking open and then it's locking closed. Another $15.
Chloe, I'll have the hamburger special please... Oh, what grade of hamburger do you use? 80/20 huh? 80% beef and 20% pink slime, right? I thought so. Along with THAT how about an ear of local fresh genetically engineered sweet corn, some nice cantaloupe washed in dirty Listeria contaminated water and a trip to the salad bar with the California lettuce that contains one calorie for each 53 calories it takes of fuel to move it to here. Sounds delicious, no? Tall glass of artificially flavored fake lemonade with it as well... Huh? just been reading labels again.
Gee Sam, what makes you folks special. They don't publish good news anywhere anymore. Doesn't sell papers or get people to watch the idiot box either... Gloom and Doom! Now THAT is what sells! Hmmm... About all I can think of good about Missus Ippy goes, "Ol' Black Water, keep on rollin', Mississippi Moon won't you keep on shin'.......... Now ya got Doobie Brothers running through my head! All your fault!
Got a couple things done so far today. Decided the new "dumb" phone is set up as far as I want it to be (decided not to call and set up voice messaging, it would have been something extremely insulting if I had so best not to at all). Sent an email to all 4 people who will be blessed with the phone # of it to be used only in an emergency and that they are not given permission to give the # to anyone else! Finished installing two new door handle/lock thingies on the cellar stairway and did a bit more on the track going to the lower staging. By this evening I should be able to run a train into the lower staging area for the first time.
Ah, I see my poison, ah supper is here, so I will catch you all later.
"I'd like to hear some funky Dixieland Pretty mama come and take me by the hand...."
A small little rant here:
How come everyone skips over Mississippi?(I mean like new channels and such... You guys are great.) But on all the news channels they never have anything good for this state. Some examples are christal spring southern Mississippi being the most racist state. Thats all you ever hear about Mississippi. Like when T.V. shows are touring the south they always go: Florida, Georga, Alabama, -----------, Louisiana, and such. No one ever has any good news about us.
I'll get off my soapbox now.
(again, now offence to any of you)
Good Afternoon all! Thanks to everyone for their condolences. We get a little better every day.
Jeff, I hope you make it through the storm ok. It looks more and more like Miss, and La. Are at the end of the barrel of a shotgun every year at this time.
Happy Birthday Vincent!
Ulrich, hang in there, hopefully things will get better!
I'm glad to be back. We have a new porch on the front of the house, and it has become the best art studio a guy could ask for! I'll be posting some of my newest work soon.
Garry, I still have the Painting for you when you're ready.
Everyone have a great day!

Good Evening!
Not my day today. The tour I was supposed to guide (and earn some MRRing money) was called off. That means back to the shelf with my ideas on how to continue from where I am with my layout. I also don´t know how to pay for the new set of tires I need for my car, and the new glasses I urgently need as well.
Not happy today
Jeff - my prayers that you won´t be much affected by what´s coming your way.
Out for the day - CU tomorrow!
