My father and I went on some errands today. First to Lowe's so he could get some paint for my mothers boat. It's suddenly become very important to get it done. Then to Wal-Mart so we could get some supplies we each needed. In my case that was two 25 count boxes of 4x4 gauze pads, two rolls of .94" masking tape, a pack of 'Stic Mount' double sided adhesive strips, a bottle of Super Glue Gel, a box of fly paper strips and a pack of toilet paper. Never can have enough of that last item. We stopped at Burger King for a late lunch. He had a double Whopper with sweet potato fries and a drink. I had the same. The sweet potato fries are quite good. On the way home I saw an open hopper with 'BNBX' on it. Never seen that one before so I looked it up. Greenbrier Management Services, LLC. This one looked to be blue in color but it could be some shade of gray or green as my color reception gives me fits on some colors.

Just got home about an hour ago after a fairly busy Monday morning. Up early and off to breakfast at out local diner, then grocery shopping, the babk, the library, barnes & Noble, Costco's, and the farmer's market on the other side of town. Then we stopped for lunch on our way home. I've got a couple of loads of laudry to be done, but I don't think that's going to happen until after a little nap.

We also had a nice weekend. Saturday we celebrated the wife's 73rd birthday by going out for a nice dinner. We then came home and had a slice of birthday cake and she opened her gifts.

Sunday we did our usual railfanning for a couple of hours. Then last night after dinner we went next door to oyr friends. A mutual friend of ours is finally home after a couple of months in a nursing home. So we opened a bottle of wine and spent a few hours with him. All in all, a very nice weekend.

I received an e-mail this afternoon from Intermountain with an update concerning their production of GEVO's in Norfolk Southern's heritage paint schemes. Although I'm no big fan of pre-orders, I'll be doing one on these to make sure I get a Pennsy. Might even try to con the wife into letting me get a Monongahela too. Well, I'll give it a shot at least. Have a good one everybody.

Good morning. It's 75° with 97% humidity. It'll be partly cloudy with a small chance of rain. The high will be 92° with a heat index of 98°.

Bring me some coffee and leave the pot.

Don't really feel like doing much today. My head feels like it's got a pillow shoved into it, I'm somewhat lightheaded and I'm having trouble concentrating. Not to mention I still feel tired. Seems like rest will be a big priority today.

Galaxy, I thought all the drunks were supposed to take the train home rather than drive...... Laugh  One of the "facts" we tell about the old Erie Industry Station is that the last train to Rochester and Back on Saturday night was affectionately called the "Whiskey Special".  Saturday evening all the local farmers would take the train to Rochester, party for a few hours, and then take the train back home to sleep it off.........

Currently 70°F outside with a high in the upper 70's this afternoon.  They say we could get a few isolated thunderboomers later as well.  I have to do some grocery shopping, but plan to spend most of the day "Working on the (HO) Railroad"

Just got an email saying we had 437 paying customers yesterday, 5 more than last year and equal to 2010 for Diesel Day.  Also the the 45 Tonner ran flawlessly for over 8 hours yesterday and seemed to be the item of great interest for the day.  We are also getting some news coverage about the day (free advertising) that may help ridership for the last part of the season.

Guess I have taken up enough bandwidth for this morning.  Catch you all later!

WEll well,

It's against the law:

Persons may not be drunk on trains.

436.201 Drunkenness on train prohibited.
Sec. 1.

No person shall, while in an offensive state of intoxication, enter or be on or remain upon any railway train or interurban car as a passenger.

They call it a "dumb law", but I think NOT...WHat Do YOU think???

So-so ugly looking day out there. Moist and damp. Cloudy.

Not much on the Docket today....{hence the law LOL}

Just relax and enjoy it I guess.

Good morning, Diners.  A large black coffee, please, Chloe.  I actually have to work today.  Too much goofing off.

We went to the fair yesterday to pick up Larry's paintings.  His landscape with the sunlight passing through the trees got a blue ribbon and his loco painting got third.  That is great for 6 months of painting.

Jim,  I keep my ears open for a shay.  We have a second one that needs the regearing and a decoder.  We talk about it, but never quite get it done.  I will post the painting when it is done.

Good Morning All,

 61F, 83% humidity, Hi today 76F.

Unseasonably cool here, it should be in the upper 90’s.  I’m not complaining but I am wondering what this will bring us over the winter.

Everyone left me alone this weekend and I was able to draw out the track plan on the 4x8 and layout the cork roadbed for the power plant and the scrap yard.  I have to plan out at least 2 more sidings inside the loop and the four corners.  I had the camera out but the battery died….

Rob, I hear you: August is almost over, where did summer go?

Hey guys

Anyways been kinda busy or not in the mood to pop in.

Those 2 stewart/katos showed up earlier this week:

I bought them for the drives, still undecided on wether to sell the shells or strip them.

Jeff, seems almost as bad as some luck I've had with lug nuts. Have you ever broken any of the long-shanked variety before? I did once 2 hours from home (putting slick on my car) and 1 broke when installing them. Luckily it came off (in pieces) without too much effort. I pulled one out of the skinnies and just ran slicks in back with my "godzilla (a friends term because they are almost as big as his slicks)" street front tires.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Jeff - what does "a Greek in every crowd" mean?Huh? That's a new one for me.

One that's opposite, stubborn while the rest were easy. Example: Seven of the lug nuts came off easily enough but the eighth had to be the Greek in the crowd and wouldn't come off.

I bet Ken has met tons of them.

 Evening Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Please

Flip, you are right about the 15 inch tires! I work in a tire store and when someone wants 13 inch maybe 1 tire brand, 14 inch maybe 2 tire brands and 15 inch maybe if they are lucky 6 to pick from. All my old Mopar's have 14's on the front and 15 on the back. On my 68 Road Runner and 69 Charger I run 245 60 14 on the front and 275 60 15 on the rear. Seems BFG has stopped making there Radial TA's tires. Sigh

Electronic Cigarette Well it sort of works. I got the lowest nicotine I could get, 18 mg. It did help while I was at work, think I smoked around 6 real ones while I was at work today.  Right before I went to go home the battery died. I bought the cheap starter set and the only way I have to charge it is with my USB port on the Keyboard Thingie. Of course I can only charge it while I am on the computer.

Jan, thank you for the PM / Conversation or what ever the heck it is called now?

Hope to hear from Ulrich soon as the rest of you!

 See you Monday.

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! (limps into diner, collapses into soft booth seat....)  Evenin' folks!

Janie I'll have a bowl of bowl of french onion soup, followed by a petite med rare prime rib, baked potato, and a trip to the salad bar.  Just a decaf along with the meal to drink...

Ooooohhh man am I hurting tonight!  Logged on duty at 0830 this morning, on train at 0900, had a half hour for lunch and went back on train.  Logged off train at 1725 tonight and off duty at 1730.  Long day to be standing up watching passengers.  Great day out there, and a safe day, although I almost had two people fall getting off the Erie Caboose.  Both of them ignored what I told them to do getting off the car.  Of course if they had gotten hurt I'm sure somehow it would have been my fault for letting them ignore my directions......  Had at least 300 people riding today.  Perfect weather for it too.

Jim, Joe is serving his second term as Vice President at the museum.  He loves working on and leading projects and says he will throw his time to the LV Caboose project already underway.  The Operations Superintendent now was our past president who was a classmate of the VP at RIT.  We have about 6 or so recent RIT grads doing a wonderful job with the needs of the museum.  We hope the Model Train Club at RIT will continue to attract them to the 1/1 scale trains.  I have been invited to come over to RIT for an evening and talk to the Club Members about "Givens and Druthers" for starting a new layout.  They tend to be a great bunch of young people!

Joe (the VP) was grinning all day as 1941 pulled and pushed her caboose up and down the track.  He said he just hoped nothing went wrong with her today.  She served with no trouble.

Galaxy, hope your lungs clear quickly!  I'll third the check for CO poisoning.  Good thing to do any way you look at it.

Sitting here waiting to here from my son about how the DIL is doing.  Supposedly she was to be coming home from the Hospital today, but will have to go over for an EKG tomorrow.  Have no idea what time, etc.  If I haven't heard ion the next hour, I will call my son!

Ulrich, where are you?

Afternoon/Evening, Flo. I'll have a bowl of chili with some grated cheddar and some chopped onions on it, plus some cheesey fries and a RBF, please. Thank you!

Uh, I must be slow (and couldn't find it online...), Jeff - what does "a Greek in every crowd" mean?Huh? That's a new one for me.

Galaxy, hope your doctor gets your breathing back on track for you (pun only so-so intended...). AngelAngel And I'd agree with Chris about checking that it's not carbon monoxide behind your headaches. Air out the place extra if you need to.

Rob, sounds like your place keeps you quite busy just with the various chores around there. Get your sleep (as best you can, I know) and rest. Thumbs Up

Ken, you hit one of my pet peeves about pharmaceutical companies/the FDA - they don't put WHAT percentage of people in the trial studies had such-and-such symptom (which, IMHO, I think they should). I get people at my w**kplace who are just as reluctant as you are about "Am I going to have this side-effect?" - and from what I've heard, if you search through the enclosed literature for a given med, it won't tell you how often the symptom occurs (probably their lawyers said not to, to CYA...). Okay, Flo, you can put away the SoapBox now, I think I'm done. Maybe...

Ah, looks like we're learning French this week, eh, Bill? Smile, Wink & Grin (Well, if I'm lucky, I might recall one or two words from a past class of that...) Nope, Spanish now? (hmm, THAT would be another kettle of fish...)

Hey. Barry - is pinktutuman a regular vistor at your WallyWorld? I don't think our local W-M provides such entertainment (or else they do at some other time than when I'm there..). Clown

Sue, I'd love to see photos of your Shay once Larry gets it painted. I wouldn't mind finding one more Shay (MDC 2-truck, coal) myself to go with the one I have. Made an offer on one on d'Bay, but the guy's wanting about $150 for it (and will say only that it is "as is", not even if he's run it to be sure it can). He refused my offer (which was $20 over the price I last saw for the previous MDC Shay). If you see one up your way, please PM/email me so I can talk with the seller. I will need to have it regeared with NWSL gearing & stuff (as my other one was, locally), which means there is no way I can justify over $100 for the MDC Shay (plus the upgrade & DCC installation). But do let me know if you hear of one.

Todd - that the proverbial "beer budget with champagne tastes"? Got a couple of scrap 4X8 sheets you could use to w**k your way across the insulation area to the fan light (or leave down, as Dennis mentioned)? Might be cheaper than a doctor's bill. Stay safe, for sure (and make a potty-stop right before you head upstairs?). What's next after the bathroom, by the way? Whistling

Garry, hope you have a lot of fun (but not too much - no extra trips to an ER thereSurprise) and time visiting with your family. Thumbs Up

Ray, if your museum's RIT grad can restore the GE 45-tonner, he probably could get elected to President if he wanted to - good guy to have around the place! Bow

Still no news from Ulrich? Got me wondering 'bout that...Sigh

Hey, hey, Chris! Grumpy Easy there on Macs; some of us actually get productive w**k done with them (in my case, usually without having to use the new "Mountain Lion", which is stretching my patience somewhat... kinda like some of the changes in the forum? Hmm...)Whistling Hey, is that YOU up there on that red Geep?

Prayers for all those Diners in need of healing, comfort, and/or rest, or MIA. Take care of yourselves!

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

GALAXY: Do you have any gas appliances? Gas water heater? Gas furnace? Might be Carbon Monoxide (CO) getting to you.

Gooooooooooooooooooood Morning, bucket of coffee and a pile of bacon please 'n thank-you.

Well (still way down, the frogs and toads have been long gone), I'm not overly impressed with the "upgrades" around here. I kinda reminds me of this goofy iMac thing: a lot of fluff 'n stuff THAT looks cool and seems to serve no other purpose than..."looking cool." As the kids say: "what-EV-errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr."

Today is a rare day: no deeds to do, no promises to keep. There is so much I "could" do. But, when all is said and done, I might just listen to the race and drink beer.

Thoughts and prayers continue for those in need...worries abound for ULRICH, have a good safe day people!

MOH and I BOTH have had headaches the past couple of days. I thought maybe due to some unreasonable weather. Now I don't know at all. They feel like tension headaches up the back of the neck. Odd for us to BOTH have the same kind of headache for the same time.

I sometimes get a bad headache in foul weather but nothing like what you get. A couple of Aleve usually knocks it out.

Well, well

MOH and I BOTH have had headaches the past couple of days. I thought maybe due to some unreasonable weather. Now I don't know at all. They feel like tension headaches up the back of the neck. Odd for us to BOTH have the same kind of headache for the same time.

Went to wally world yesterday and wil go again tomorrow. Need to return stuff. BUT I spent what I am returning yesterday! That place is dangerous.

Pulmonologist asked about pets. We have one cat left. We don't plan on replacing him when he goes {he's 14}, but we aren't gonna get rid of him either.

I sure hope they don't find blood clots in my lungs. Not sure what they do about such things? But If I DO have them, that would explain why It is so hard for me to breathe sometimes. SO far the new med he put me on has NOT made a difference in ability to breathe. I think if anything it is worse!

Got the laundry all done yesterday except bedding. will wit til MOH goes to work today to do that {MOH in bed sleeping off headache?} I think I go join and the puddy tat too...

Well, prayer candle is lit for those in need...Angel

Good morning, Diners.  I will have a large black coffee.  Chloe, are you settling in okay?

Larry and I will go to the fair to see how his paintings placed.  We wait until the last day so we can pick them up.

I plan to work on my car shop a little today.  Mostly, I think I will work on the doors.

Good morning. It's 72° and the humidity is 100%. It'll be mostly cloudy with a high chance of showers and thunderstorms. The high will be 85° but will probably feel like 101°.

Looks like the weather today is gonna be a real pill. Well I take enough pills already. I hardly need another one. The weather warning is the standard one. Locally heavy rainfall...occasional lightning...and wind gusts up to thirty mph. Maybe I can use the time to clean up my work area. Not too clean though. A spotlessly clean work area could be interpreted as the sign of a sick mind. I may do some cosmetic work on some locos later.

JEEZ, it's dark out there! Where is the sun? Hey! it's SUNDAY, so why the heck am I up at 3:18, and the coffee is warming up.    I did retire my truck. Are you aware 15 inch tires are hard to find? Tire stores have to order them.   I did retire in 1995.  After we left Miami and moved to Eustis, mid Fla., Deb had a good job and life in MRRing was good. 2003 was when Deb's health got bad and I had to unretire.

Wish you all [y'all] a nice day. Prayers and Blessings.
