RAY- you have some 'splaining to do!!! What are you doing with Our Munchkin's sister??? Munchie is 18-19 years old and looks just about like your kitty. Munchie has an orange dot between those "black stripe furrows" between the ears though! She is a runt of hte litter, but we love her. When dinner time comes, she likes to suck in those cheeks and suck in her hips to look "skinny" as though she were starving! I always tell her she can report us to the SPCA and we will even dial the number and hold the phone for her while she complains about her owners not feeding her enough!!! SHe has her own food and treats, but she also eats whats left on the plate when we are done of fish especially, and chicken- anything chicken! {I know bad habbit but I can't help those big sad eyes}.

KEN- Be careful! DON'T make yourself TO valuable to them...they will take advantage of your low wage status! Only make yourself valuable if they give you a raise ansd - ta da- a proper title of manager!! To get there you have to show SOME initiative and willingness to hard work often,,,but they will skin you alive if they can!!! SO be carefull!

Well, some shopping and laundry and dishes  is on the list for today, if my back holds out. MOH works 10 hours today, so dinner will be late. We are having cooked  PIG tonight!

Went to see my father yesterday. He is fine. bored but fine. Been shopping madly at our new Harbor Freight store here...he refused to order from them before as he wouldn't- get this- pay shipping and handling!!! Now with the store so close he goes often.

Well, that aobut it for now.

LAter dudes and dudette!

Good Morning All,

Curt, outstanding work on the trestle and everything I’ve seen so far!!!!!

Ray, I haven’t seen that color (of the bridge) in years, Insulator red.  I remember Conrail ordered way too many pallets of it in spray cans one year.  I remember it well it was the same year we painted our barn.

Jeff, there is some sort of flu that involves abdominal pains, diarrhea, and vomiting going around up here on the north coast. Good thing is it seems to only last 72 hours.  I hope you can stay away from that strain…

Todd, like Curt said it looks more like a chart table or a blue print cabinet.

(lifts up cap) Do I have “Sucker” written across my forehead? No? (lowers cap) Hm….Hmm

Good Morning!! Coffee please and an order of Frrrrrrench Toast. Yes, powdered sugar please and of course maple syrup and could you chuck a couple pieces of that maple thick cut bacon on there too. Thanks. Say,Whistling think you could slide me that fancy Maple syrup Ray brought in real quick before he shows upWink?

A 40 percent chance of snow after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 26. Wind chill values between zero and 10.

Cheers Krump, Mornin Bill.

Well, I see we have some pictures of some pretty good modeling posted to the ole wallYes. Great looking stuff guys. I also like that picture of the bridge Ray put up. It’s going to be looked at for some possible ideas to better my low bridge I have. Remember this one?

Different bridge of course, but some of the surrounding area may give some ideas. Long ways to go on mine when I get back down there.

OH!!! Speaking of that, BIG NEWS!!!!! I was in the train room and I did some w**kBig Smile. Yup, sure did. Now don’t get too excited, because all it was was picking up the wood scraps from the miter saw. A lot of wood scraps I might add, but at least it was a start towards getting back in there. So I got that goin for me. I also had this strange feeling while I was in there standing looking at the layout. I felt this strong urge to go to Castle Trains. I have no reason to go as I don’t even recall what or if I need anything. Well, I always need something, but..you know what I mean. Anyway, I just suddenly pictured the inside of the shop and felt……nice. Is that a yearning? Never really had one of those. Or is it withdrawal? I don’t think I’m hooked so much on MRRing that I’d go through withdrawal. Or could it be I’m tired of cleaning up the mess and would rather be anywhere else and the Hobby Shop always a good place to be. Ah well, who knows.

Floor Wars Williamsville: Phase….I lost track.- Looks like tomorrow, the Kitchen flooring gets purchased as does the Refridge-a-deezer. She’s definitely decided on the double door refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom stainless steel thing. She’s tired of the side by side. They both go off sale Sunday and I don’t plan on doing much otherna buffet on Sunday. Save $500 on the thing PLUS, we call the power company and they come pick up the old refrigerator and then credit us $50 on the power bill. Can’t beat that with a stick. Well, short of not getting the thing at all. Only problem I see now is…..the stove won’t match the refrigerator. I see her plan more clearly as time goes byHmm. Between her and the dog I’m starting to feel a bit like a puppet on a string.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Ken ... Nice coal train photo.

Jeff ........ good work on the F units. .

Here are more background buldings. I'm finally to a corner where I will move to the city area to the left in the photo. I have buit several downtown buildings for it.

The Diner restaurant was one I built a couple of years ago. We were stranded at home in the KY ice storm. We were without power, phone, cel phone, and water for 9 days. In the day time I sat near a window and made the Diner.

The row houses are from DPM kits. The stone retaining wall is by Chooch.

Morning All,

At w**k today so nothing else much going on. High today will be 77 F. I really appreciate all the kind words about the coal yard. I have to admit that I am happy with the outcome.

OZ Jim- Look forward to a 3-D train video.

Ken- Thats a nice photo. How do you do coal loads? I have never done one.

Todd- When I don't do anything with MRR for several days I get a stronge urge to do something.

Jeff- I meant to tell you that I liked that scene you posted a couple of days ago.

Garry- Another great couple of shots.

Everyone take care.

Thanks to those offering compliments on my work. It's appreciated.

Good morning. It's 65 and cloudy. Expecting isolated light showers this morning. The high will be 74 and mostly cloudy. There's a 20% chance of rain this afternoon and evening then light drizzle and fog after midnight.

I'm feeling a little better today but not by much. This morning I'm performing an inspection on a loco I found in the closet yesterday. It's an Athearn blue box F7 chassis with a Bachmann FT-A shell. It has bad pickup issues so it's looking like I'll be opening up the bottoms of the trucks and pulling out the wheel sets. My thinking is that there's corrosion where the bearings meet the frame. With my luck the corrosion will be between the bearings and axles. I hope not. I really don't want to have to take the wheel sets apart just to run a pipe cleaner with Krud Kutter through the bearings then have to put them all back together. I'll have to take one of them apart in any case as it feels as though there's a cracked gear in the rear truck. I have enough spare wheel sets around I should be able to just drop another one in. That's all I'm looking at doing today.

The chassis in question:

Hello folks. Been a busy week for me so far. Into the final hours of the working week! Thumbs Up

I got a new phone last night. A HTC EVO 3D. it has a 3D camera and can record in HD and take photos in 3D. The cool thing is you don't need glasses to view it. I can also watch 3D movies on it.

It of course still makes and receives calls. Smile, Wink & Grin

Coming from a Nokia E71, its pretty cool to have, although I'm no stranger to the technology as I do own an iPad and have played with HTC's before.

Might have to do a video in 3D of the trains. Confused

Just thought I'd let you guys know.

Cya later!

LION has telephone. Telephone has wire, plugs into wall. Has PUSH BUTTONS... you just do not know who much effort it took to get rid of that twisty dial thing. Many of our phones still do have that round dial that you gotta turn to call a number.

BTW: our phone lines are now all optic fiber, and we have been with the same phone company ever since our phone number was 15. As a matter of fact, that is STILL our phone number, but they kept adding more numbers in front of it.

If LION wants to take a picture, him has a camera. And the cat is Callista, named after Pope Callistus the first . She has the correct vestments for a pope and martyr.

At the moment she is out side of my window meowing at me. Something about an empty dish, I'll warrant.

Curt  While I like your coal dump a lot. You need to make a real load for the coal car. With the real (OK fake coal) under the dump, you can really tell the one on top is plastic. If my remote chances you don't know how to make a better looking coal load, let me know.

Or use real coal. Buy it at a dealer who works with concrete and sandblasting equipment. Much of that sand blasting stuff is real coal, really hard, flows nicely, and is just the right size. Check it out.

It also adds WEIGHT to your coal cars. Make those LOCOMOTIVES work for a living.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes, a couple of sausage patties and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug.  Oh, bring my private bottle of Day Farms Dark Amber Maple Syrup to the table if you would.  WHAT!?!  Todd did what!  Used the last of my Maple Syrup?  Well!  At least he has good taste!  Good thing there is more in the back of my car.  You get the pancakes and I'll bring enough for everybody, sound good?

Another shot for Lee.

Galaxy, old Sheila could be related to your kitty...  Would have to be a different litter though.  Sheila ended up being put to sleep at 21 years of age (we think).  Most likely had a malignant tumor (Thyroid) and she got so she was having trouble breathing and was in some obvious pain so we did the kind thing for her.  She never weighed more than 7.5 lbs, and was down to a little over 4 lbs at the end.  She was a sweetheart!  Barry, Spring looks to be a sweetie as well.  As long as we are showing kitty cats, here is one of my two boys...  they weigh over 20lbs., each!  Manet is happiest when I am holding him upside down in my arms.

Lion, very pretty kitty you have there.  Looks to be friendlier than one the Lion was staring down the other day!

Maybe all the photos of cats will bring Tom W back in for a cup of coffee???

Best get moving.  As usual I have way too many things that have to get done today!

Later!

Chips & Salsa, please.

Got caught at a RR crossing just one car back. Rolled down the window and enjoyed the sights and sounds of a mixed freight train. Was returning from Court where I received documents required to transfer everything into my name. Just a tad bit melancholy now, but doing OK.

Looks like a cat friendly Diner, so allow me to contribute. Here is Storm Cat (B&W) and Millie Kitty (Calico). Indoor cats, out on the screened porch.

Good afternoon. My father and I spent the better part of five hours working on the Peerless tractor getting it ready for the cutting season. Here that's usually the end of February to to sometime in November or December. It needed the blades sharpened and the blade drive belt replaced. Those were the EASY things. Getting it up on blocks was the hard part. We had to use bottle jacks to accomplish that. We'd get one wheel on a concrete block then start jacking up the other wheel and it would start slipping sideways almost immediately. We ended up with one of us leaning against it to counter the tilt while the other jacked it up and put the block under the wheel. It sounds easy but old Murphy was having a field day. Because of the recent rains the ground was soft and even putting boards under the jacks didn't help much. Why didn't we move it to a part of the yard where there's harder ground? Please come show me where that is and we'll do it next time. There are concrete walks but they're thin and aren't designed to support that kind of weight and my father doesn't like grinding his knees on concrete. Can't say as I do either. Getting the new belt on was akin to figuring out a Chinese finger puzzle for the first time. The instruction book that came with the machine fifteen or sixteen years ago was nowhere to be found so I had to thread the belt around different ways until I found one that worked and it wasn't rubbing against anything. After all that getting it off the blocks was a breeze. Just jacked up the front and pulled the blocks from under the front wheels, dropped the jack then let off the brake and pushed it forward off the blocks under the rear wheels. It;s big enough it can take a bounce easily. A future project will be replacing the front wheels as the bearings (built into the rims) are showing quite a bit of wear.

Well, that's all for now. We're getting ready to make chili dogs.

well. got some shopping at Wally-world done this AM, then the dishes, then 3 loads of laundry and now have to think about dinner...

MOH gets home from work at 7:15...had a 10 hour day today, so far later than usual. Probably will eat and then go to bed to rest for another 10 hour day tomorrow. I will probably follow.

Tired now and back hurting like no tomorrow.

Should definitely clean/dust off the xmas tree layout...its still up as no where to put it really.
Need to pack up the trains on it and get them sorted out...

RAY-yes Munchie is a runt...weighs in at about 7-8 #s soaking wet. SHe has a knack for sucking in the facial cheeks and the area on either side of  her hips so as to appear skinny and "starving". SHe is MOH's cat, no doubt about it. SHe is devoted to MOH, I am "tolerated" and  just along for the ride {of course i came along later..she is finally used to the idea that I am staying and not going away}. I started offering her something off my plate or to lick the gravy left over after dinner as a token "peace offering" . MOH long ago insisted I be the one to give her cat treats so she gets used to the idea that I am the "one from whom all blessings flow"! Of course once I started the plate thing...in answer to her "begs" at dinner time, well MOH didn't want that,,,but when we have fish or chicken so help us, she would be up on the table with us if there were no "offerings" to the "almighty puddy-tat"!!!!! She can 'niff it in the air as soon as I start cooking it!

Then there is the big Orange Brut! He is a fluffy long haired cat with his own furrowed stripes above his eyes, that he has a knack for "knitting together" when he is angry we won't let him do somehting..usually picking on Munchie. His name is "Cuddles" cuz that is what he likes to do..cuddle up wiht us...he shares and shares alike- not palying favorites amongst me and MOH..but absolutely refuses to eat ANYTHING that came off our plates!! "ew HUMAN food!!!". He has the biggest round eyes..his irises open all the way round and disappear when it is darker lighting...he is SO cute when his eyes are round...I call him Cud Cuds for short....We know he is rthinking naughty thoughts when he knits those stripes together!!!!

Well, I must attend to teh washer/dryer now, so

Hey guys.

Snow here, a good 4 inches, no drifts and its powder. Ready to take my snowmobiles out soon.

Drive home was a bear. Apparently people forget to drive every time it snows. It took me 30 minutes to cover a couple blocks from my school to the highway that I take out of Joliet. (53 if anyone wants to know.)

After that it was smooth sailing.

Jeff- Sounds like you and your father have the same ventures with tractors as me and my grandpa. Try wrestling with tire chains. That's a fun time.

 Evening Fellow Dinner?

Wake up Flo, I like a beer please.

Work Front Sort Of. Dave (area supervisor ) called around 10:00 AM or so. Sue was gone and I napping was when he called. I left around 1:00 PM (hung out at the LHS) and got home at 5:00 PM, just as the freezing rain started. Sue told me around 5:30 PM that he called. All ready had 2 beers down by then. I have returned the call but got Dave's voice mail and not heard back from him.

What really gets me is yesterday when I was talking to Jim, the manager I did point out to him I was off Friday. I asked him "what are you going to do if Bill calls off again?" He shuddered his shoulders, look at his shoes and said "guess I will take a long lunch and come back and close". If he was a manager he would have taken the bull by the horns and asked me if I could work Friday if or when Bill called off. But NOOOOOOOOOOOO, he did not take any action. In fact, he has never told me what he wants me to do? All well, let him tuff it out.

Far as train front I did buy a new car today. Accurail RTR  B&O 50 foot  Box Car. Guess it is my way of getting ready to pull the trigger on a EM 1. Whistling

This one is Motleys he posted few weeks ago. Boy she is a good looking Yellow Stone!

Curt I will pull up some pictures and post them on making coal loads. He is pretty easy and with you knowing how to ballast the track you are pretty much there!

 See you all later!

Evening All,

Still at w**k so nothing much to report from the home front. I will probably go to the club early tomorrow and do some programing and a little running. The club is doing ops starting at 7:30 PM and that really drags out and since I am back to w**k on Sunday I don't want to stay late. I should receive the train phone supports tomorrow or Monday so that will be my project next week. I should also receive the board back from LRT next week.

Everybody's kitties look great. We had 2 before they passed away from old age. Now I don't think they would get along with the critters we have.

TSF- It doesn't matter where you are at. When it rains here people drive like idiots. It's the same everywhere. Have fun on those machines but stay safe.

I did, many years ago in Germany and Missouri. That's why I live way down here in Louisiana. No cockamamie chains! Just rednecks who don't know how to drive on snow and ice on the rare occasions we get it here.

Well I can say that well and truly overdid it today. My joints feel like their locked in a vise and hurt like the dickens. At this point I can hardly walk and just moving is an exercise in agony. I should imagine my father probably feels the same way as he's twenty-six years older than I am. He was already stiffening up when I left from his home.

I never did get around to working on the Athearn blue box chassis today. Don't know if I'll be able to get to it tomorrow either. Depends on how I feel in the morning.

I'm going to call it a night early. The reason should be obvious from that stated above. See y'all tomorrow, maybe.

FRUSTRATED!!! About ready to tear up the N scale layout and sell everything off. Then keeping and expanding the HO layout. Why? Well, swapped out McHenry trucks & couplers with a number of vintage cars (Atlas & MP) only to have them take turns derailing and/or uncoupling all over the place, especially around gentle curves. Even made sure there were zero burs catching on anything. JUNK!!! AngrySuper AngrySoapBoxBang Head Knew it was time to unplug and leave the train room before I got out a garbage can and started throwing things into it.

Are there ANY brands of N scale freight cars with knuckle couplers which stay coupled and do not derail easily? Are there? Please, do tell!

Surfing the Web tonight, looking at "O" scale trains.

A large plate of assorted dark chocolates, please. Grumpy Rob

Good Evening from Winterpeg,

Well we certainly got the weather that Johnboy so kindly sent to us. The windchill yesterday morning was -41C. It has warmed up a little but I hear Seamonster is frozen is some ice.

Talk about crazy drivers, we have plenty of those but cyclists take the cake. Yes there are some wackos still riding bikes in -41. They are a real hazard as ice does tend to get slick at that temperature and with the snow they don't ride next to the curb. They don't obey the rules of the road in summer, such as stopping at a Stop sign and in winter they seem to think they should get special consideration due to the cold. OK rant over.

Rob, I find that you can't beat Micro Train cars for running well and good detail at the price especially if they are on sale. Atlas are good too. I think MT couplers are the equivalent of Kadee only in N scale.

Not a lot of RR progress but I hope to have the final bit of track down for the N scale layout this weekend.  I just have 5 sidings to stick down. Hope it all works ok. I have been running my new Northern a bit and now have an hour on it. It sure is a lovely engine. I think I might be getting a little on my wife's nerves blowing that whistle so much but it really sounds great. Apparently it was recorded from the real thing. Certainly sounds like a CN whistle.

Well it is getting late so hope everyone has a great Saturday.

 HO and N Scale.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Good Morning,

Duke, about a 40 foot box car’s worth I would imagine!
