We are supposed to be in the mid 40s today, so maybe sn*w will melt off??? This whole week looks a bit on the mild side...If it was for the mild temps early on, I would say this is our January thaw....
The fracking gas companies are hiring vets to do their dirty work... I'm all for hiring vets..they need jobs now too, but Nat gas companies are furthering their agendas in NE PA. To many now have to have "water buffalos" {large tanks of water delivered and refilled with potable water} cause of contaminated wells!!! SOme people can light their tap water coming out of the tap on FIRE. THAT is NOT how its supposed to be. One farmer in a nearby town say the NYS government is "depriving him of the use of his 242 acres"...well NO they are not...it was zoned agricultural and the gov't isn't preventing him from farming it! Thye are only holding up gas drilling until they understand the ramifications of such here in NYS to be SURE it is safe {mainly for tha NYC reservoirs upstate of course, NAturally!}. away for now.

Not much to report. I installed interiors and store signs on 4 buildings for the club layout and I applied static grass to a set of hay bales, all for the club layout. I really didn’t do any work to my layout over the weekend. Pictures of everything after I install it on the club layout Wednesday night.

The high will be 69° and it will be partly cloudy.My plan today is to take the bottoms of the Athearn F7's trucks apart and give the contact surfaces of the trucks and bearings a good cleaning. Hopefully that should clear up the pickup problems. After that, well, we'll just see what happens.

Good Morning!! Coffee please and a stack of buttermilk pancakes with butter and maple syrup. Thanks. Oh and don’t forget to make them thin and kinda rubbery. Thank you. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 33 by 5pm. Breezy. Currently, 40. Looks like they’re slowly backing off from the highs in the lower to mid forties this week. This morning they have tomorrow and Wednesday in the upper thirties then Thurs and Fri in the mid forties. We’ll see. Floor Wars Williamsville: Phase….I lost track - Well the refridge is in the living room and I have the tile layed were the thing will sit. The new on comes this afternoon sometime and it will go in the living room also until the mortar sets enough and we will move it in there Wednesday. I will grout today and then start w**king on the rest of the floor. Funny. Yesterday after we moved the refrigerator, Brenda decides she need to clean the insides. OK. But I ask, why now. See were the thing sits in the kitchen is right as you walk in. So, There I am, on the floor trying to prep and lay tile and there she is, trying to walk back and forth to get to the sink. "excuse me." "Sorry" "Can I get through?" " I don't know what you're getting mad about"......."What did you say!?" Ulrich- No complaints on the door plan but, do you want two water scenes? They are different I see, but maybe the end one you may think of another scene you would like. Just a thought.

Barry- Welcome to Floor Wars. It’s a fun and exciting event. The original started in Marysville, now currently is in Williamsville. Good to see it’s going international now. We’ll call it…Floor Wars Canada: London. (in case another NOB decides to sign on) May I suggest for the foy-yay (pronounced Entrance Way around here ) use tile. We have wood, but the ceramic will be easier to maintain what with tracking snowy wet slop in. Even with rugs. See, we found out that rubber backed rugs are a no no with wood floors. So, the rug gets soaked and stays right on the wood. And unless you’re using cypress or bamboo or some other wet wood, wood no likey wawa. Our entrance has wood. Looks nice, but hindsight is 20/20. It’s not a big deal mind you. Just something to think about before you make the big decision. You can seal the wood and the cracks of course, but that too cracks sometimes with the expansion and contraction. Just something to ponder.
Proto what? Oh that. I’m a thinkin ya’ll know my feelins on THAT. I just want it to look good and somewhat believable to someone just passing by. That is a non railroader. I’m not saying just anything, I’d like it to at least be close. But like Ray I am kinda making my world up as I go. Um, probably a bit more than Ray is, but he’s like me except I’m using a real, no wait. I’m not using a real railroad, just an old name for one. (ideas/plans changed. Imagine that, me, change my mind. I already had a bunch of cars and well, I’m cheap) But even if I were a prototypical modeler, I would not care at all what you did or how you chose to do it. I may offer a suggestion, but that would be all it was. A suggestion based on my opinion and opinions are like a........ belly buttons. Everybodies got one. Just like my suggestion to Ulrich. Or Barry. Do I care if Ulrich has two water scenes? No. Would I? Who knows. I just thought there may be something he might like to try to model and….well. But actually, if Ulrich wants seven water scenes, more power to him. He may like water. Bottom line is his railroad, his dream, his…, his…, it’s HIS. And he’s having fun. Now Barry’s entranceway, if he puts wood down I’m coming up there and ripping it up and then run him down for three days til I get there, and then not let it drop for at least a week, then bring it up again for some other totally unrelated reason in about a month.

Today would be a thoroughly rotten day to be out camping! Currently 43°F and rain..... It is right on the edge of where it will be too hot in the house with the wood stove lit and to cold in the house without it.... Think I shall get it lit and keep as small a fire in it as I can today.

Barry, I like the doodlebug photo! We had two of them at the golf course I w*rked at when I was in high school and college. Didn't have the fork lift though. We used them to pull the mowers for the rough. I think they were made from old Chevy pick up trucks IIRC.

Flo, just a coffee for me, please. I am feeling kind of awful today. Nothing specific, just a case of having the blues.
I tried to get rid of it by adding some finishing touches to my layout idea. I guess I can leave the way it is, until I actually start building it. When that will be, is written in the stars.

Well I've been busier than a one-legged man at a butt kicking contest! Before I could even start on the Athearn loco this morning my father showed up. We needed to change out the front wheel bearings on the Peerless tractor. Naturally it became more than that. The left front bearing had gone dry and the spindle was badly worn, the part toward the outer end has a quarter inch deep, one and six tenths inches wide groove worn into it. No wonder the camber was out on that side! Only hard part was getting the tie rod end off. It didn't want to budge. I pulled so hard on it I almost pulled the tractor off the stands! That would've been nearly 3/4's of a ton of metal looking to use me as a landing spot. I had to lay back on my back and brace my foot against it and push it back so the stands were upright again. That resulted in the leg cramp from he!! but it worked! I had no intention of getting that close a look at the underside of that monster. I changed my point of attack so I wasn't pulling sideways on the breaker bar but rather from front to back. I eventually loosened the bolt and the tie rod end dropped away easily after getting a good hard smack from the hammer. I'm glad the brakes are on the rear axle. At least I don't have the fight with them. We got the axle spindle off and took it to a welding shop to have it built back up and ground to the proper size. Maybe it'll last another 15 plus years. The welding shop will call when the part is ready. Then it'll be fun-fun-fun putting it all back together. The bearings are already packed and ready so it should be a simple matter of putting on the inner bearings then the wheels and outer bearings and tightening them down. Who knows, maybe I won't have to look at them again until I'm sixty-six.

I have been plodding along getting stuff done today. Ran off all the Honorable Mention certificates and got them ready for the Art & Poetry Chair to pick up to sign, mailed out the Division Newsletter (NMRA) to those who still don't have email (or won't give a working one to use), Picked up a bunch of items at Staples I needed (good thing I did because as I was trying to pint a high res document tonight on the Canon printer, 4 of the 5 ink cartridges were empty), a bunch of other stuff. Not going to make it down to the train room today, but I should have some quality time for it tomorrow.
Back to w*rk as soon as I load more wood into the stove....

I tried to go to sleep, but my mind kept racing thinking about things I know about work. I am sure some of you have noticed I quite saying the company name I work for. Main reason I don't want fall out if they find I am a member of the site.
Services Manager is out of control and the Manager has no control of the shop! One of the reason I left today besides feeling bad is because of what was going on. Customer (Woman) did need front brakes but not rear brakes they where fine. She was told she needed both front and rear brakes by the services manager / theft. Plus he keeps saying " I sold them fill in the blank here" not they need this and we are doing the work.
Manager on the other hand says nothing to speak of. He has been there for a moth and I have yet to hear him give a order and tell me what he wants me or others to do?
Guess it is time to speak up.
