Good Morning Modelers!

It's 26F and Sunny here at Mile High with a hit if snow maybe coming Thursday.  It's been so warm this year that the trees are starting to bud out and the Iris are coming up.  The grass never truly went dormat and is starting to green up.  It's still January right???

Italian roast coffee in a APACHE RAILROAD mug, please.

Re-twisted my fried ankle. It's been all torn up since the triathlon days. Skipped surgery back then so it's a forever injury I live with. Haven't had it twist like this in awhile. Oh well, back to limping around and being extra careful for a few days.

Have a good day all.

 Morning Folks

 Flo, coffee please.

Well I work today and sure not in the mood yet. Have to leave early today because I did nothing yesterday. Have to go make the house payment. Guess I should be glad I can.

Layout shut down last night due a derailment some where that caused a short. Of course all the trains are on the back of the track or in the tunnel where they will be hard to get to!

 See you all later.

Mornin' everyone!

"The sun is a-shinin' to welcome the day....."  Yep the bright big yellow thing is up in the sky this morning so I will have a couple eggs sunny side up, whole wheat toast, and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug, please and thank you.

Currently 45°F out there on its way up to 50°F.......  Good for the heat bill, but very bad for the fruit crops around the Finger Lakes.  they say the local grape crop may be almost a complete loss due to the (lack of) Winter here.  Trees are budding out already and may suffer some major set backs so the cherry and apple crops will be affected.

Will try to get a bit more done on the layout demolition today before I have to put on some good duds to go to the party tonight.  It is now mostly just removing the plywood and the rest of the electronic wiring.  Then just need to take apart the frame and I will be ready to complete the planning for the new section.  I am also going to redo where I have much of my hobby tool collection (table saw, dremmel drill press, sander, etc. so i will have a more usable space out there as well.

Waiting for the lady to drop by and take the rest of the Art and Poetry away.  YES!

later!

Doctor appointment went OK. He checked out the pressure wound on the side of what used to be my ankle and could see no sign of infection. He did a culture swab on it to see what may be living in there. No matter how careful you are there's always something. He also gave me paperwork for an MRI so we can see what's going on in there with the bones. I almost have the paperwork completed.

Seems I was supposed to get the MRI done this morning. Nobody said anything about that, just that it was being set up. They're rescheduling it now. This is why it's important that communication be clear.

I'm getting my checkbook warmed up for the bill paying marathon tomorrow. I have to do the face to face thing at a couple of places. Some people insist on operating in the stone age still. The others I can pay online and a couple are automatic. Also have to get the first half of the grocery shopping done. The cupboards are almost bare.

Just got the call about the MRI. I can still have it done today so I'm leaving at 12:30.

That pretty much shoots my day to pieces and tomorrow will be busy too, and then I have an appointment with my primary doc on the 2nd. No rest for the weary.

Columbian coffee in a BURLINGTON NORTHERN mug, please.

***Ray, with a small mini orchard, there is a whole lot for me to learn about. Is it late Feb. when I need to prune them? Still have a few in need of righting from the tornado, too. Hopefully by the end of this year all the repairs will be completed.

***Dennis, getting old (and/or ill) is just no fun at all.

***Ken, hope your work week goes well. And good luck with the derailment issues. Has me re-thinking some of the planned tunnels on the (N) layout. Had 1 derailment already in s hort 24" tunnel and that was enough hassle.Hmm

Well.

52* here. Wow! I ran the A/C in the kia on my errands. Good to do on those warm mid winter days to keep your A/C "healthy" and lubricate all the seals and such.

I got my errands done and got my scripts. One is going to be a now controlled so I have to wait for the DR. to write it out so I can get it filled. Bummer.

Realized yesterday at the DR.s my medical history/med list is out of date, so I updated it too.

Now onto household chores.

That is about it.

Good Afternoon

mmmm...actually sitting here at 49F...and sunny.

Did manage to get to HD to look into tiles of various sorts..we actually got to take some home as samples to check against what we have so as not to go through the ...oh...we'll have to repaint scenario...which we were prone to before...

But..now, I have a doctor's appointment that I have to attend to ...

Say it isn't so Ray...    Not the grape crop. I need my Reisling. I would imagine that would effect a winery's stock next year, or maybe even the year after.

It's been a pretty mild winter here in Pittsburgh as well. We had one snowfall of about 4", but the temperature went to the high 40's the next day. Today it is in the mid-fifties, and since the wife didn't have physical therapy or anywhere else to go, I decided to wash the car. Also gave the inside a good cleaning. They do throw a lot of salt down these days. More than they need to in my estimation. Really hard on the cars around here. That's why I try to wax mine two or three times a year.

Everybody have a good one.  Tom

Got the MRI out of the way. Guess I'll find out what it has to show when I go back to see the doc on the 7th. They had me wear headphones while the MRI was being done. Not bad as they muted the sound of the machine. What was bad was what was coming through those headphones. Rap! Oh man! I was about ready to scream! I had them change it to a classic rock station.

Good thing it wasn't a Marine Corp loco. They actually own a few ge 45 tonners in barstow (where my dad was stationed in the 80's).

How about moving the dinner to minnesota. there is a resturant in an old GN station in Lakeforest along my MINRail

Oh ya Laura, get me a root beer and some roast beef.

Coffee refill, please.

***Jeffrey, the A.F.loco looks good with the L&A on it. Now if you ever get a Marines loco running through town, might want to let it pass unscathed. Just saying.

***Barry, H.D. is a dangerous place to visit. Curious which ones you end up with.

Some scantily clad ladies showed up here on the old farm todayStick out tongue. Too bad they're all HO scale.Laugh

Was a very productive day, all related to required paperwork. Had help from two very smart ladies. Real ones, not HO scale. Far as I know, the latter do not talk much.Hmm

Time to hobble down to the barn and tackle evening critter rounds.

Good afternoon!

42 and cloudy, but the sun was out earlier. Very pretty day!

So, last Friday I get home from being on a roof all day to discover the County wing-plowed the ditches. Great, you say. Nosir! The blade operator evidently couldn't see the 4x4 post( set in concret, btw) and arm/brace that the box sits on and rips the box and arm off. Okay, no biggie. I'm a Contractor. Lots of lumber and supplies. Fixed it AND added OSB gussets to both sides. Take THAT, sez I.

Get home today after all-day ladder work. Somebody decided the end of my driveway is a great spot to turn around. Yup. Backed into it and snapped the 4x4 post a foot above the ground. Everything laying in the ditch. More lumber/supplies. Fixed. Can't wait for tommorrow.

Sheesh!

On the MRR front, have a plan of attack and needed supplies to add a staging track in the pump room for the Altoona( Eau Claire ) Turn. Just have to find the energy to start!

Ray, I'm following your "deconstruction" with interest. It's neat to see a layout evolve!

Hello folks. Just thought I'd pop in and let folks know I'm still kicking.  Not much going on here.  I've not felt up to doing much. I hope all are well here.

Reality...an interesting concept with no successful applications, that should always be accompanied by a "Do not try this at home" warning.

Hundreds of years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...But the world may be different because I did something so bafflingly crazy that my ruins become a tourist attraction.

"Oooh...ahhhh...that's how this all starts...but then there's running...and screaming..."

The House Special and a cup of decaf coffee, please.

***Barry, that is one neat little loco there. Wouldn't it be fun to run that thing on a track that circles your property? For here, suppose it could pull some flat cars and transport hay to the barn. Do you think that would constitute "farm equipment" for tax purposes?Hmm

***Terry, can you set a section of metal girder with heavy duty spikes and nails welded to it and an explosive box that is only triggered by heavier impacts?

Coyotes are howling nearby as I type.

Ah, there's dinner. DinnerRob

Good Evening, Zoe - I'll have a blueberry muffin and a CAW mug of coffee while I decide what to have for dinner, please. Thanks!

Thanks (about the 'toast your grilled cheese on the server' question), Lion! Yeah I know there is heat in them thar 'puters, as I think inadequate ventilation in my Intel iMac was causing problems (and more or less toasted the internal drive) before I found the utility that allows you to adjust the fans according to one of three temperature sensors. (If only I had learned that *before*...) Ah, well - live and learn, as they say.

Jeff, both of those F-units look ready to haul some  freight. Thumbs Up Of course, you adjust them to get the maximum out of them, I'd say. Hey! The L&A has an Air Force? Wow! Smile, Wink & Grin

Ken, hope you get a store to run for yourself soon (without Larry and company's "help"). Yeah

SaronaTerry, I like your 'prairie grass' there - did you use fake fur, static applicator, or something else to get it that nice-looking?

Ray, is that section in your photos where your quarry/mountain was/is? Or is that in another section of your layout? Glad your neck is a bit more manageable for now.

Barry, I'm curious about your bridge with the string of steamers on it - do you know any of the story behind that one?

JR, I didn't get through all of that article (just most of the RR-related), but Chrysler sure made the rounds of railroads (and was a definite go-getter), wasn't he? Amazing man there. Bow

Darren, that (baggage?) car has some of the biggest windows I've seen in the doors. Wow

Garry (and MoeLarryCurly4), latest I heard on the bridge was, they decided to send specially trained divers down to check the footings of the piers (instead of placing the sensors). I suspect that the bridge may be a goner... At least they already had budgeted/planned to replace it, and this will maybe only push up the timetable a bit. Hard part is for those drivers in the area there who used the bridge to get to/from w**kplaces; I heard this will be adding possibly an additional hour to their commute. The local powers-that-be are seeing about making special arrangements (maybe by some back and side roads) to reduce as much as possible the impact for local drivers.

Lee, you're likely right (since that's your field of experise) on that channel - I understood that the stuff for NASA that the boat was hauling is still on the boat (guess it's easier to maintain security there than on the shore). The local news here was saying that they have boats (1 or 2 I think) each week hauling stuff for NASA up the lake (maybe to get it to the Ohio river and then down to (Houston/Florida/California)?) Oh, and I wouldn't mind you sending me that spreadsheet with the calcuations on it to my email, please. Thanks!

Bob, sorry to hear about your losing Dusty - that bandana looks great on him. Smile I think we all hate to see our furry friends suffer (I know I did years ago when our dachshund came down with some kind of sleeping sickness and we had to put him down)

Rob, I don't know about all of that by a restaurant's train, but the ones I've seen used to haul some of those items looked like G scale to me. (But the plates might take something bigger, I would think)

Ulrich, nice drawing of your layout plans Smile - does your program have the figures in it, or where did you get those?

Zandoz! It HAS been a while since you've been in (or at least, since you were in; good to know you're still around.

Zoe, I'll have the beef stew and a side salad, and a RBF for dessert, please. Dinner Thanks.

Sort of have the walls for that 'annex' building for Acme Manufacturing together. Next to put a base under it, and get it painted a 'brick red' color (once our humidity goes down; supposed to have some rain tonight...).

Anybody have ideas for removing the 'sticky-shiny' from the (polyester) resin pieces for that Magnuson kit? Still trying to get something that will clean it off.

I'll be at the corner booth, waiting for my dinner. Or until the loco gets here to haul the Diner to our new location (wherever that is going to be).

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me right now...  had too many appetizers at the class get together.  They thought there was only going to be about 5 of us coming to it, actually got about 25.  Fun time.  One lady who showed up just about the time I was getting ready to leave was a classmate I dated just once when I was a freshman in college.  She was a very cute kid back then.  Now most of us are looking quite old these days....  This lady looked like she just walked out of her yearbook photo!!!  WOW!  Got a hug too! Smile, Wink & Grin

OK...  Rob, I have no idea.  I usually chop down trees and split them for firewood.  Pruning is done for the same reason... Gives me tinder for the stove.  ??????

Tom, what has turned out to be a major lose for growers this year is the Ice Wines.  The growers who left part of their crop in the field hoping it would freeze and could be harvested lost big time.  Most of them didn't bother to harvest as most of the grapes were no good by the time we got a hard enough freeze.  Normally very ex[pensive Ice Wines are going to be very pricey!  How bad next falls harvest will be due to the weather remains to be seen.

Jim, Nope!  The area was still a plywood central and was never going to be what I had hoped.  Figured now was the time to claim back some of the space and make a more comfortable room.  Still have a lot of Givens and Druthers to figure out, but It will be much better than before.  Speaking of which.......

Going......

Going......

Gone!

Still a bit of cleaning up and the removal of the walk THAT was covering a drain clean-out on the floor THAT likes to trip people.....  (Got a couple ideas for it....)

Later!

Hey gu.... Sorry, International Harvester. I've got the red tractor fever blood going through me.

Jeff- Stay dry.

Not much new from me, just got a new workbench that was formerly a computer desk at my grandpa's. All it cost me was some gas to get it with the trailer behind my Jeep and a buddy to help get it. Dang near lost it on the way home but don't want to go there, bad tying down.

Anyone know if the BR blue Hornby B-12s are DCC ready? I think a better question is what should I look for?
