***Barry, careful where you point that thing! Only sent a nail through my hand once, when I was building the add on enclosed porch. Have been much more careful ever since.

Good morning, Diners. Our power has been off since early Thursday. It was on when we got home last night. I am tired of camping. We went through over 25 gallons of gas in the generator. So much for the $50 dollars off the power bill.
Just a quick coffee, Chloe, please.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Good Morning!! Coffee and a breakfast burrito please. Thanks.
Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Local media is calling for rain and sleet. Hmmmm. We’ll see who’s more accurate, the National Weather Service, or the local yokels.
Ulrich- Hope you get to feeling better soon. I sure wish we could do something about your stress and worry. I believe that is the main problem.
Aussie Jim- Sounds like Australians drive like Americans…..just with a funny accent. Actually, I guess we do have Chicago and New Y…...I mean Boston accents. Happens here all the time. You’d think they’d learn. I meant even a Gopher will learn after a while.
Barry- Might I suggest a wood flooring stapler. Bostich makes one and is a very good unit. I’d let you borrow mine, but well, it’s colder up there than I like right now. Besides if I leave the country I believe they won’t let me back in. The issue you may have with a traditional nail gun is getting the boards tight with each other especially since many won’t be straight. You will have to use a nail gun when you get close to a wall because the unit is too big for the first two or three boards and the last oh, say for you three or four swinging the hammer. Unless of course you want to pre drill, hammer and set each nail. It places the staple correctly with the tongue and it slams the boards together tightly. I bought mine from Menard’s ( a Home Depot type place here) and it cost $500 plus about $60 or $70 dollars for a box of 7000 staples. YOu will a;lso need an aircompressor, but if you have a nail gun I assume you have one. A lot of money yes, but considering that most of the flooring in the house will be wood, it was still cheaper than having a professional installer by far. Plus, I have a cool tool to sit on the floor after the job is done. I figure I’ll keep it for a while if someone wants to borrow it or just look at it (It's a man thing Sue. It’s a man thing) and maybe sell it to one of the contractors I know. I can sell it to them pretty cheap for them and still recoup a couple hundred for me. I don't know, kinda goes against thousands of years of evolution to sel a tool regardless of it's usefulness. (grunt)
Ray- Your story about the coal shoot (ahem) I mean chute, reminded me of a conversation I had in the basement of the restaurant a couple weeks ago with this feller. On the street side wall, there was the bricked in chute opening. Or used to be opening I guess. Anyway, he looked at it and also said it must have been a tunnel or opening to another storage room. I said no, probably the old coal chute. He of course asked what that was and I said for the old coal furnace. He looked at the furnace that was there and said I don’t think so ……that’s a gas furnace. I said "and I don’t wear diapers anymore either". He didn’t get it. I then said yah you’re probably right. That’s where they buried that family that was butchered here years ago.... but we don‘t talk about it much.
Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!
Aaaaaaand HAPPY ANNIVERSARY GARRY!!!! 5 years. Ah yes I remember five years ago…...oh who’s kidding who, I don’t remember 5 years ago. Prayers for your nephew in law.

Good morning. It's 65° and cloudy. The high will be 73°. There's a 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.Hello from wet Louisiana. We're under a tornado watch until 3 pm so there's a chance the weather may get 'interesting'. Needless to say I won't be working outside today if I can help it. Winds are currently SE at 10 to 15 mph and I hope they stay low. The weather guesser however is proclaiming gloom and doom, damaging winds and heavy to severe storms. The radar data seems to agree with him. It's relatively clear here at the moment but I can see a bunch of nasty looking stuff coming across Texas and heading right for us. I may be able to get a few projects out of the way today. I also have some movies that need watching.

Slow getting going today. Rob
OK Everybody.
This is my 5th anniversary in the forum ... I'll help with the tab. So, chow down on some scrumptious goodies! Coffee is on my tab!
Here is a photo I took over a year ago.
Thanks for your concerns about my "N-I-L". ... We're not getting any good news at all about him. We heard when he collapsed at work he went head first to the floor. He has injuries from that in addition to the illness that caused the siezure. There has been bleeding inside his head. Hopefully, he will awaken in a few days and any brain damage in minimal. There still are many things the doctors do not know. ... Meanwhile, his wife (our neice) and his 3 young kids are very upset.

Hi Fellas
Not much going on here, I think I have done too much on my railroad lately I am kind of feeling burnt out from it and just dont want to work on it right now. I think its time for a break for a few days. Do you guys ever get that way?
Jeremy
Well, the LION fell down the other day, nothing was broken, but his paw is still sore. Him has not climbed all of the stairs to the train room recently, but there is work waiting for me when I get there. I think I'll bring the work down to my office, build the structure here, and then take it back up to the train room when it is complete. The structure is an underground passageway connecting the 14th Street platforms to both the street, and to the IRT over on Broadway. The passage is directly above the platform and at the far end will be turnstiles and the token booth.
LIONS do not so much work on the trains in the summer time, for it is far to hot up there, but we will sea.

I am glad to know that I am not the only one that falls down. I slipped on the ice on my front steps last Saturday. I was on the way out with my dog. We recieved about 6 inches of snow and it was a beautiful day on saturday and I did not think about the melting and dripping on my steps. My dog always looks at me funny when I get down on his level like that. A little stiff for a couple of days but seem okay for now. and the snow is gone because on Monday morning it was 47 degrees. Freeky weather. 13 on Saturday and 47 on Monday. Today it is cloudy and we are expecting rain and/or freezing rain tonight. Ice and me do not get along well when walking the dog.
Glad to stop in the dinner. Made it through the holiday season so now it has slowed down considerably here at w**k. Got some time now to browse the forums.
I have started to put real sceenery on my layout. I am farther than I have ever been in that regard so it is a learning experience. Using foam board and light weight drywall mud.
It looks like I get a bonus here at the office for several days...there is heavy equipment tearing down some buildings a coupleof hundred feet away from the front of our offices. It looks as though they may be recycling the debris. They did that with another building on another part of the campus.
Hope everybody stays well.
Andy

Time for me to get out of here. Radar shows the advancing line of ugly weather to be about sixty miles away and coming fast. The color band shows moderate to heavy with some pockets of severe weather mixed in. See y'all later.
Stay safe, Jeff!
Goooooooooooooooooood Afternoon, the POTUS is in Cedar Crapids today, and thus my usual radio listening has been replaced with his jaw-flapping...so here I be for a bit.
Looks like JEFF has a bit of a "bow line" heading his way...nasty things, really good at pumping out high straight-line winds. Might even be some "gustnadoes" in there too. Gustnadoes are "spin-up's" on the leading edge of a storm front. Every bit a tornado, but generally smaller and shorter-lived.
Staying on the weather... TODD: I make THAT choice everyday: trust the National Weather Speculationists? Or the local TV weather geek? Sometimes, they're both on the same page...and thus equally wrong.
On to different thoughts... GARRY: Congrats on the five years here, and we're hoping for the best for the Nephew-in-Law. Menningitis and a head injury? Nasty combination. Did they ever say if the menningitis was bacterial or viral?
ULRICH: Hoping you get back to full steam quick! Just out of curiosity, what all do you need for THAT four scene layout?
Greetings to BARRY, SUE, CUDAKEN, our resident Australian, that LION fellow (Rerun was not amused by the big cats, by the way...) , GALAXY. ROB and to the rest of our cast of characters!
Time to take Rerun out for his afternoon patrolling, peeing and pooping duties. School board mtg. tonight for THAT EDITOR, gotta finish high school basketball from last night, and get the poop on a bridge project in Sutliff, Iowa. Have a good, SAFE rest of the day folks...

Garry: Happy Anniversary on the 5th!! N-I-L had Meningitis as well? OY....hopefully there will be not much damage from the fall!!
Jeff: Stay safe!!
Garry: Sorry to hear about your nephew in law, Meningitis is a scary thing hopefully things get better.
Garry,
That is scary with the N-I-L hope all comes out well.
So much for a high of 49 today, still in the 30's and raining.
Jeff you just keep that bow echo down your way we had some of that a few nights ago.
Coffee refill, please.
***Jeffry, "DUCK".
***Garry, I'll just second everyone elses comments.
So, Warran Buffet invested in BNSF and stands to gain from stopping the Keystone pipeline, which our Emperor made sure of? I better go sit in the corner booth before I explode.
Have not accomplished as much as planned. Tuckered out and body is rebelling a bit. Need to rest awhile.
Rob
Afternoon All,
Got a lot done MRR wise anyway. I actually got everything done on the train phones. It wasn't the best I have ever done but I'm happy with it. The LRT board arrived today and I installed it and the signals work (all of them). Evidently when I was checking the sensing chip I put it in upside down. The amount of support from LRT was truly amazing in this day and age and I would recommend them to anyone (I have no affiliation).
Garry- Any news about your N-I-L?
Jeff- hope you made it through that line of storms.
Ulrich- I like the layout plan. what is the size of it?
Everyone take care.

Good Afternoon...
Floor Wars: London ON division:..I got about half way across the living/dining/great room floor and it is looking pretty decent now...I have an interesting way of doing it...butting my foot against the board in such a way as to make the board as flat as possible against the other boards..then nailgunning the board about 3 feet apart...then power screwing them on to the firring strips as well I'll be doing some more of this in a bit...
Rob: I saw that as well...think I'll join you at the corner booth
Mornin'......... Ah..... WOW! That late already?
Guess I'll have a cup of hot chocolate to tide me over to dinnertime.
Been a busy day so far. I looked on the Staples website and they had the printer I have been looking at on sale (close out) $50 off the $179 price... Decided I would check it out at the local store since I needed some photo paper and a couple other things anyway. They had one left! I grabbed a cart and headd back ove to put it in my cart before someone else "needed" it.... I got there first! I am currently printing a few 13": x 19" photos for "Thank You" to several people who helped at the MLK Service.
Back again after an interruption........ Also sorted and attached the Honorable Mention certificates to the entities and have most ready to go back to their schools. Did some graphic stuff we needed done as well.
Hopefully I will actually get down cellar to the train room tonight some time.
Catch you all later, maybe!

We'll get there sooner or later!
I'll have the House Dinner Special, please.
***Barry, that is a most peculiar looking car there.
May not have accomplished all the important stuff, but did take a little time to grapple up some future firewood for the future wood stove today. Think I needed a little tractor time to unwind.
The NMRA gauge arrived today. To tired to even try it out tonight. At least now I have one and should be able to figure out where the problems are.
Healing thoughts to those in need.
Cheers! Rob
Curt ... I like the Pennsy sharknose locomotives with the antennas.
Rob .... That's a lot of wood. I know many people are getting the wood-burning stoves for heating.
Barry ... You must have a never-ending supply of photos with unique old vehicles.
Thanks to all who commented about our neice's husband. We're learning more. He was completely blacked out at the moment he fell to the floor. His head hit the floor hit the hard surface with enough force to break the skull (not just crack it). ..... A little good news today: He was somewhat awake for a few minutes today. Doctors are not certain he has meningitis, but have not determined with certainty why he blacked out. He is being treacted with anti-biotics in case it is bacterial He is only 39 years old.. ... Our neice and the 3 kids are very upset.
Today, I took pictures of an eagle on a dead tree on our property. I was in the house when I took the photos. It was cloudy.
