Well, it's time for me to call it a night. I've been busy today and I'm tired. Some of the forums I go to are running really slow also and I just don't have the patience to deal with them right now. I got the Varney/Athearn hybrid F3B all together and it runs great. I got some work done on the junkyards finally. Weeds and bushes are in.Tomorrow morning I'll be at my parents place. Just returned from Nashville. Long delay because of bad accident on the Interstate in TN. I had my medical appointment and there will be more for me there in February. Next, we visited with some of Shelley's family in Nashville. They spent time talking about the Shelley's one sister who passed away 3 years ago.
Thanks for the remarks about my new background building, the freight house. Sue, you asked about the dock. The dock was very simple to make. I used two long and narrow pieces of masonite. I used construction adhesive to fasten them together at 90 degree angle. After the adhesive was set, I used a power belt sander to smooth the surfaces. I painted it concrete gray, and drew lines with a black ink pen. The stairs at each end are some scrap pieces left over from old projects. The narrow roof over the dock was made from styrene strips.

A chance of rain and snow showers before noon, then scattered flurries. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 27 by 5pm.
Welp, been up since about 0230. Storms rolled through last night. Nothing severe thank goodness. How do I know? Maybe something to do with 73 United States pounds of fat Labrador Retriever jumping in and out of the bed flopping down on my head over and over, whining to go to the basement because of the thunder and lightning might have had a little something to do with it. I don’t know. Big baby.
Gotta go to Lincoln today to get the oil changed in the truck. First one. What’s that Flo? Why am I not changing it myself? Well, because it’s under warranty. See, I’ve heard stories from the past (way past) were on the off chance there is a warranty claim dealing with the engine and if they determine it has anything to do with the oil, they may claim the oil wasn’t changed at the right interval, an inferior filter or oil was used etc, etc, etc. So, like with my ‘94, as long as the engine is under warranty I take it to the dealership where they have the records of mileage AND they did it so there is no my word against theirs as to when the oil was changed or what filters were used or the type or grade of oil. If there is, well it’s still on them. Nothing happened last time and I foresee nothing this time, it’s just something I do. (shrugs shoulders)
First, make the deposit I filled out yesterday for the Church, then the grocery truck for the restaurant, if they deliver due to MLK day yesterday, then off to Lincoln then back for w**k tonight. Not much going on with the floor today.

It is -30c with a wind chill of -40 coming to work this morning and the forecast is for a wind chill of -46 for tomorrow morning. The good thing is, is that there are no flies or mosquitoes.
Been spending some time lately on the RIP track. changing out and repairing trucks and couplers that had been waiting for awhile. When I have one acting up I just pull it and place it in a bin, then wait until there are a number to be done, then I get at them. Actually the work on them went well other than a Bachmann tanker that has given me a bit of a work out, but it is coming along nicely now. Also have several locos that need servicing and I'll do that before pouring that river that I have been putting off over the holidays.
Garry, that is a great looking warehouse you scratched built, would like to have one like that.
Sue, Don't complain about the snow. It is easy to handle as long as it isn't -40........

Ray, I really like the work you did on those turbine/generators. great detail. Thanks for all the work you have done with Scouts. They are very Dear to our hearts. My wife was a Beaver, Cub and Scout Leader and I spent quite a while as the Group Committee Chairman a few years back.
I hope all the health problems are getting fewer and weaker so that you are all ready for Spring.

Yesterday was a very long but wonderful day in the life of Geneva, NY! Last summer there was an unfortunate incident where the police stopped a car to arrest a young Black Man wanted in connection with a robbery the day before. He had a long list of previous arrests and various charges and was a kid with some deep problems only in his early 20's. He was in the back seat of the car and all of the occupants (2 in the front seat) were ordered to get out of the car with their hands up. The man and his girlfriend in the front immediately complied. The other appeared to keep reaching under the seat for something and didn't get out right away. He actually was trying to get the seat to move forward so he could get out of the car, and he had his cell phone in his hand. When he raised his hands one of the officers thought he had a gun and shot him. He died a couple days later at Strong Hospital in Rochester. This brought back a lot of very bad memories of some things from years ago of police brutality here and the Black community started to explode. Thanks to some very cool heads in city government and several organizations (NAACP to name one) things were kept from getting out of hand. We proclaimed a summer of healing and spent it taking a good look at how people perceive and treat each other. The City Council and the police dept. pledged to be more active working in and building good relationships with all the people of Geneva. With that in mind our "Memorial march" on MLK Day has been 75 or 80 people for the last decade or so. yesterday they counted 200 people at the Public Service building for the start of the march (not all there are able to walk the distance anymore and rode to the church). Notice who is marching with us yesterday. BTW One person is our area State Representative (who usually just shows up to campaign for himself...).
I didn't notice the uniforms marching with us until I looked at the photos last night. I sat here very choked up...
The other fantastic happening was a "guest accompanist" for the MLK Choir. The choir did a gospel arrangement of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Have known the gentleman at the piano for several years ever since his family moved to Geneva. Never knew he was a fine pianist! Dr. Mark Gearan, President of Hobart and William Smith Colleges and the former Director of the U.S. Peace Corps.
Guess I know why they have a beautiful concert grand Steinway in their home.....
Sorry to be long winded with this, but it was a very moving day for the whole community to see so much come together to make for a better tomorrow here for all! I also got to talk with so many of my favorite students from way back when (and get huge hugs from some now beautiful ladies who were students of mine...)
OK, today I have to run to the bank and deposit the money from the collection, and then spend some time in the train room! My lumber arrived yesterday!

My brother had a car like that. The state inspector told him that it would not pass inspection. But my brother told him it was an advanced foreign design, and it would not work unless the window was wet, after all you don't need wipers if it is not raining. He then took a bucket of water, threw it on the windshield and the wipers started right up.
His car then passed inspection.

Wet and windy out there today, 10c at the moment and dropping to -10c overnight.
I made it to the hobby shop today to pick up some scenery material's and have a chat with the owner. I have been going to him for years now and the store is only 25 minutes away. I miss my local hobby shop or shops I should say as we had two of them ( both 2 minute walks away ) until 2008. One store was located in a strip mall and he always was a nice guy and would always be willing to help out. The other store was located in the train station, what a great place to have a hobby shop as you could watch trains and be in the shop at the same time. They were open Thursday and Friday 5pm- 9pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am-6pm. It was always great to show up early on a cold snowy Friday night with a hot cup of coffee and watch some trains before he showed up then head into the hobby shop to browse the walls and walls of kits and locomotives. But sadly the owner had enough of running the shop and decided to close it. There is a small graphics design store in there now but to me It was always be the hobby shop. I still find myself every now and then getting that urge to go to a hobby shop on a Thursday or Friday night, especially in the winter. I dont know what it was but I loved going there in the winter more then the summer thats why I still have the memories of being there at night well the snow was falling outside. It was there a long time too because I started going there with my Dad and was still there when I was living on my own.

Got the Gr. Caravan inspected. Tires are wearing down, but will last {hopefully} till NEXT year. omorrow taking it in for rotation and alignment. Both free...cuzz I paid for "lifetime Alignment"! I sure have gotten my money's worth out of that extra $50 I paid for it years ago! They didn't see me coming... and coming... and coming... and coming....
Saw my psychiatrist today {OR as Lucy's Ricky Ricardo would say "Fiz-zee-ah-key-ah-trist"}. He told me "it's all in your head"!! {well, OF COURSE it IS!!! The electrical wiring up there isn't right!!! ANd it is NOT wired for DCC!!!} }. He is from the Phillipines and likes to remind everyone here that no matter how bad it seems here, there are "people the world over in severe poverty". Of course he works for the county for the PENSION our taxes will be paying for him to "enjoy my {his} retirement"...which he WOULDN'T have if he were in the Phillipines!!! Not that he hasn't work for the county for awhile to get his pension..but I never did have a job with a pension attached! If he doesn't like it there, I like to remind him, he can always go back to the Phillipines! He has yet to takee up on THAT offer. He has it TO GOOD here in teh good ol' USA Thanks to our taxes.
Tomorrow got a few things to do. Not much but some things.
MOH saw the Dr. today, GOt the OK to return to work at full strength, instead of "light duty".

Well, tomorrow should be interesting. I got notified today that I have an appointment with my urologist tomorrow at 11 am for my annual prostate exam. Oh joy. Plus I have that boring drive to DeRidder and back. I can think of many other things I'd rather be doing. So much for tomorrows plans.

If my calculations are correct the dresser will hold 300 forty foot box cars. Its 45.5” wide, 35” tall (including the 2” casters) and 28.75” front to back. It has 9 drawers on ball bearing self-closing guides that are 2.5” deep, 24” front to back, and 40” wide (inside dimensions). The drawer pulls are brushed nickel 3” wire handles. The drawer faces are popular, the frame is #1 pine joined with rabbits, screwed and glued with birch panels on 3 sides.
This was the prototype so if I build a secondone I might actually know what I'm doing.

Calling for very high winds (already have arrived) Gusts as high as 60mph in some areas. Current winds are from the West at 32 mph. I was down cellar w*rking on the layout and the lights flickered several times. I suppose I should find where I put the kerosene lanterns after the last time i used them......
One clarification I should make about my statement this morning concerning the shooting last summer. The officer was completely cleared of any mistake by the investigation. He acted reasonably considering the situation. He resigned from the dept. a week later. Unfortunately he had a reputation for being a bit heavy handed during arrests and doing profiling at times. But, I can tell you I would pulled the trigger myself if I was placed where he was. The cooler heads I mentioned were from both the community at large (the mayor, etc) and many, many leaders in the Black community. OK enough said!
Got the banking done today, reprinted a bunch of award certificates that I found were awful looking (printed with the laser printer using ink jet certificates....), printed the snail mail copies of the Division Newsletter. Need to compose a short plea to those folks to give us a working email address so we don't have to waste funds mailing them a copy. Little by little. I did put down some new ties and painted a bunch of the PC ties in the small yard today.

Hail Storm Update Well there is really no up date. I saw no damage done to any of the cars out side. Sure sounded like the hail was the sizes of Canned Ham's!
