Just a quick coffee before heading to work, Chloe.
Thanks for the suggestions & compliments, guys. We have a 30' flat car that might be the solution for the critter, but it is not a high priority. I worked so hard preparing for the wreath party, and cooking the turkey this weekend. No layout time for me. Maybe I will work on the cyclone for the wood working business on the holiday weekend.
Later, Sue

LSWrr Good Morning All, Heck of a weekend; alternator died in the truck Saturday, it was under warranty and didn’t cost me anything but still I lost most of the day hanging out at the auto shop. Finally got home and found water in my laundry room, the washing machine died, repair guy stopped over and quoted $500 to repair it. I guess I need to start going to the laundry mat again or hit the black Friday sales…
I HATE waiting at teh auto shop for a "quick repair". Last time I waited for a "quick repair" I showed up at opening time {7 am} to have the headlight low beams replaced on my Kia Sedona Minivan replaced...took 1 hour 40 minutes!! He siad "well they don't make them easy to change like they used to!!"
Yep for $500 you can buy or nearly buy a new top loader!!! I personally see no reason to spend a small fortune on a front loading "E-machine" that has gobs of electronic options for "steaming", "freshening", "steam pressing" and "watever elsing" my clothes. I jsut want the bloody machine to wash them clean so I can throw them in the dryer and wear them again!!! Besides, "Steam Freshening" Does NOT sound "clean" to me!!!
Whew! sorry for that little !!
EDIT: I got top SO here's my CC Flo...go easy guys...I still got the new furnace to pay for !!!

Good Morning!! Coffee and the #2 brakeman’s special please. Over easy thanks. Cloudy, with a high near 50. JP- Good to see you’re still kickin. SUE- I really like that bridge. Jeff- I feel for you on the shopping trip, but lunch sounded great! I got mixed up, was/is your Dad an Architect (or Engineer) or in Insurance? Or am I just imagining things to get a wrong impression. Wouldn’t be the first time you know. Welp, Looks like Floor Wars: Williamsville is starting to gear up. Starting to build the cache of flooring. Got the tile for the hall bathroom Saturday, getting the wood for the hallway and entrance today. I will wait until we return from Texas to begin. Apparently we are leaving Saturday. Went to Nebo yesterday to see my Aunt. Pretty much the maiden voyage for the truck. Ran and drove great, I’m impressed. Only thing that is weird, is when we were driving around through the country, my Aunt wanted to take us sight seeing through some areas I haven’t been through since I was a kid. Haha She kept asking “now do you remember this?” or “being here?”. Great lady. Anyway, strange feeling on the truck. When you’re driving slower, and the engine drops the cylinders, it sounds like it’s missing an a couple cylinders, but it doesn’t feel like it at all. Kinda strange. Othernat, no problems. I like it more and more ever day. Best get doing something before I run out of day. Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Lunchtime!
Zoe, make that a Barry-sized burger with all the works for me, and a RBF to wash it down, please!
The weekend was quite busy, still helping Aunt and Uncle. Did not find much time to relax. It´s a cold but clear day - I think I have seen Frosty the Snowman already. Must be getting close to Xmas, as all the radio stations start to playing "Last Christmas" again. This season´s shopping list will be as short as last year´s - just a few odd things for our son and his GF, that´ll be it, nothing else.
Here is my first attempt at w*rking with GIMP, which I posted on this weekend´s WPF thread:
Tried to add a little steam.
Have a good one!
Thayne- Not knowing how your layout is set up as seen from the LR. have you thought about a false wall fastened to the layout that can be moved by just removing a couple of screws. The wall could be made with 2x2's and drywall painted to match the non-layout side of the house with a couple of pictures. Just a thought? Post a pic. of the area I might have a better idea.

Good Morning All! I had a pretty good weekend. I spent the day on Saturday cleaning the house I even did some laundry, Boy Camille was surprised when she came home from work! One of my hobbies is feeding the wild birds. Well the mice found my bird seed in my shed (what a mess) I went and bought two metal trash cans for the seed and some traps and spent some time cleaning the shed. (It needed it!) On Sunday I worked on my Layout, I am still in the bench work mode but I am making progress. There is a 10' section on my layout that can be seen from our living room, (layouts on the 3rd floor- living room on the 2nd floor) So I have been having a tough time thinking of a way to make the back side of my back drop look nice. Guess that's part of the fun with our hobby figuring something out and then building it, I am off to w**k. I hope you all have a GOOD DAY!
Thayne.

Janie, just a decaf to finish off the evening...
Jim, I do already have 4 kerosine lanterns that work.... Plus several propane lanterns and a whole lot of candles inherited from my mother who thought they were way too pretty to burn.... The electric will be more usable more often...
Barry and JR, thank you, thank you, thank you! You have been most helpful. At least now I have some idea what they look like.
Spent the last 3 hours scanning in the first 1/3rd. of my high schools class yearbook pictures. The new scanner is great! Very fast and i have figured out hoe to remove the screen door effect from photos in books! (probably most of you already knew.....)
Getting late and i have had a long day.
See you all tomorrow!

Dang, I had a long post going and hit the wrong button by mistake!
Well I will pick up where I was, then post the other stuff Monday when I am off.
Rob As far as your friend, as JR posted (while I was erasing mine) music is very personal. I have heard $40,000 tube set ups and they did nothing for me. What I like is sound stage, you close your eyes and you can tell where the singer, base player, drummer, and guitarist is standing. When you have a great system (to me) you can not tell where the speakers are, just hear the music.
Far as the Magnepan's I was all hot and heavy for a pair. Then a friend brought over a set and we hooked them up on my gear. Well, they sounded the same from behind as they did when I stood in front of them and looked really cool. Told Mike they sounded great and stop trying to win a set off E Bay.
With your friend wanting to go back to a good system (2 speakers) I would look for what I have. (reason I have them right)
Preamp is a Carver 4000T, you can find them on E Bay for around $400.00. (sold for $1,000.00 in 1978) Adcom 555 amp, all so a round $400.00 on E Bay. And my babies, Dahlquist DQ 10's. I paid $1600.00 for mine around 1985 and have never regurgitated a penny! Nice extra I bought latter was a NHT SA-1 amp and sub woofer. Did add to the music depth, I was shocked.
DQ 10's before I was into trains. Black speakers are Keff 7.2's
See you later.

Good evening all,
Good to see J.P. drop in it's been a while.
After chores I got some time in on the layout noodling the elevated section on the back wall. Ended up cutting another overpass in the stonework and I'll add another converging road through the cut and allow the addition of a couple of extra buildings in a back corner. Didn't get to coving the rear corners yet so I need to do that before proceeding further.
Rob - if at all possible it is best to actually listen to the speakers before buying them. Different people hear them differently. In general, tube amps have greater dynamic range and a more natural sound especially listening to amplified guitars. Tough trying things out if its coming on line. Next best bet is a good return policy after a reasonable trial period. At one point I had purchased a set of high end Marantz speakers (bass, mid, tweeter) that I hated and was lucky to sell to a friend who loved them . I replaced them with a set of Wharfdale Rosedale speakers with a pair of Bose 901's for the best stereo I ever had. Those I drove the salesman crazy testing.
Ray - I see a period steam turbine powerplant on Wikipedia.
Sue - nice critter. A tender might just do the trick. Glad you found something useful at the show.
Jim - those are some nice trees.
Curt - you're making me look like a slacker. Nice job.
Jeff - that's the bane of being retired isn't it? Everyone thinks you have nothing to do so going out all day shopping must be a treat. At least you got a nice lunch out of it.
Watched the end of the cup season - best NASCAR race I've seen in years if not ever. The suspense was riveting. Kudos to Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards both for driving great races and not resorting to the ugly WWF stuff at the end. A remarkable race.
Time to toodle off to get some shuteye. Catch Y'all tomorrow, J.R.
I'm hurting bad so it's time for me to call it a night a bit early. See y'all tomorrow.

Good Evening
Well, only have one more day to cover then I am fini for the rest of the week...whew!
JimRC: Nice looking trees!!!
I'm looking for some other photos in here somewhere...
Evening, Flo - I'll have a bowl of the chili with some chopped onions and a RBF, please. Thanks!
Sorry, Jeff, I was thinking that (not the Busch backdrops that are in several of your layout photos) the shots with the backdrop that has the grain elevator in it, was one by Detail Associates (rather than Walthers, which I have some backdrops of, also). Glad your thumb and back are feeling better today (sort of?). Well, you were feeling better - for a while (until your mother roped you in for the day...)
Ray, if you'd have got a kerosene lamp for that lantern, you could use it sometimes when your power went out... Nah, it looks fine (and w**ks simpler/easier)! I don't have any ideas for your turbine (short of scratchbuilding it - could you get a Merit award for doing that? (Just hoping for ya... ) I must have had either kinder scout leaders at camp, or ones with a smaller repertoire of pranks - I never got one done on me (that I know...) And I learned about hunting snipes before anyone staked me out to do that... (whew)
Barry, we're having one of your "dull days" here today - you didn't lose one, didja? Misting and cold damp kind of day.
Rob, is your eye doing any better by this evening?
Ken, you'd better be careful, or you'll get drafted for some of Todd's wife's new projects.
Todd, did you tell your wife that Ken was coming to visit (and she mistook the name for 'Kim'... one of your past girlfriends)? Could be why the sudden bunch of additions to the HD list for you.
JP, I don't know for sure, but I'd guess that part of your post got cut off about when you sent it...
Sue, are you kidding me? You were short on NP cars? Who'd a'thunkit? Glad you were able to start correcting that shortage. The idea of cooking earlier than Thanksgiving sounds like a good one, and I might be able to use that next year - get a turkey *** to cook and spread it out over a week (or two)...
Curt, that one track next to the mountain sure made getting that side done a real prize, I'd bet. Surprised at how you managed to keep it from 'taking over' that inner track.
Hey, there ya go, Ray! Barry found you the pics (for your scratchbuilding project...). Barry, you sure can find the photos!
Speaking of projects, I was able to get some more pine tree photos uploaded, in spite of Photobucket telling me that there was "an unknown error" in the process. So to help those having trouble getting to tonight, here are a few. This first one is some of the trees with more of the caspia glued on:
And a closer pic of one:
And without the flash:
Apparently (I found out when uploading the photos earlier this evening) I don't have the pics of the tree(s) which has/have the foliage added to the caspia. This afternoon, I also started carving some more balsa wood for some of the bigger trees (have one cut, carved and sanded, awaiting the Sawblades of Texturing to be applied).
Well (starting to creep up, with all the misting rain today), about time to head for home. Hopefully, I will have about the same on-call this evening as last night.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.
Ray..found a few things...
These might give you some idea here....
Well I had a good day of rest going then my mother called. She wanted to go to Stage to do some shopping to add to the mountain of unused clothes she already has. That was at 10:15 this morning. I just got home. It's 4:48 pm. I least I got lunch at Wagon Master out of it. A half rack of ribs and a ten ounce sirloin and all the peanuts I could eat. So much for a restful day. My ankle is hurting and my back is trying to kill me.
Sue- I was thinking (always dangerous) Can you permanently hook a flat car to the critter and put wipers on the car axles to act like a tender. I would think that it would give you enough length to make it through turnouts.

Afternoon folks!
Cloe I'll have the hot roast beast sandwich with fries and gravy, a trip to the salad bar and lots of decaf coffee for supper.
Oh..... Am I gonna hurt tomorrow.... Not only did I mow the lawn for the last time this season, put it away for the winter (brought in the battery and plugged in the charger in a storeroom in the house), but I carted and stacked just under 2 face cords of wood.... That stuff gets heavier every year. still have about 2 more face cords to move... Hoping to get it done tomorrow.
Tonight I need to get started on scanning some of my classmates old yearbook photos...... Need to have them done by this Tuesday evening for a reunion committee meeting.
John P, good to see you sir! Glad you are still around. Hows everything over in Sorrycuse these days?
Best get moving again before i completely stiffen up....
Later!
Curt,
You are working hard. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Sue
Afternoon All,
I got the mountain/tunnel plastered in. Will probably paint it tomorrow after it has plenty of time to dry. I have my Dr. appointment tomorrow at 1100 about my Ultrasound and MOH has hers Tuesday afternoon about if surgery is appropriate. I work on Thanksgiving, but the on duty crews are having a big dinner. Saturday we will be taking my Mom out for her 78th birthday.
I also did a black wash on some WS Talus for at the base of the mountain.
Sue- I like the critter and also the bridge that it is on.
Ulrich- Nice looking buildings in Show me Something.
Wolfgang- I'm sorry I meant to post previously that you are in my prayers.
Everyone have a good day.
Cederstrand Coffee refill, please. ***Sue, that little Critter is cute as heck. You guys must have some really good track to be able to run a 4-wheeler around. *

Rob, That little dude is not without issues. It is not always happy at crossings or turnouts. We have debated fabricating some type of tender to improve the electrical connection.
***Audiophiles: A friend of mine is seriously considering trading in (selling off) his surround sound system and replacing it all with a simple tube amp from here: http://transcendentsound.com/Transcendent/Products.html and either a pair of horn speakers: http://www.thehornshoppe.com/index.html or a pair of these: http://www.magnepan.com/model_MMG Any experience with this stuff or opinions? Kinda home he goes through with this, as I would kinda like to give them a listen.
Not much going on here. Taking it easy today. Rob
Hey Wolfgang,
I tried to post my smallest diesel, but I wasn't fast enough. So I will post it here.
MDC critter. We picked up the gondola at the swap meet in Puyallup yesterday.
Good morning, Chloe. I am cooking a turkey today so we can eat turkey all week. We are going to by brother's for Thanksgiving. By cooking today, we don't over eat on Thanksgiving.
The train show didn't have as many deals as last years show. We picked up 6 NP cars and 1 GN. We had taken our inventory and noticed that we were deficient in NP. Deals were fair, but not crazy good like last year. Larry is doing tuneups on everything as we speak.
Wow... look at this.... I can still find my way back to the good old CS!
Hello gang! Hope this finds everyone in a good mood today. I just tried to put up my outdoor Christmas lights. Tested both strings. Both owrked. I lost a bulb in each as I was wrapping them around the porch railings and then broke the sockets on them when I thought I was using the correct replacement bulbs, only to find out they are too big and split the sockets open.
Anyways, enough of my ranting. Time to
