Afternoon folks,

Well as much as I'd like to be able to do it, I've decided not to stress my finances and save for a US trip 2013 instead of next march. I'm sure cheap fares will come around again. I will be able to plan a bigger and better trip instead.

I'm still deciding whether or not to do an order before or after xmas from MB Klein. Money is pretty tight at the moment so I think I'll just treat myself in January. I still haven't bought any gifts for family and friends yet, I'm just waiting another week or two. I'm a very last minute kind of guy!

I've not had a chance to read back through the last 7-8 pages so will catch up later.

Cheers,

Ozjim

Jeff- Great looking cars just as you always do.

Thanks Curt. My modeling is getting better now that I have more use of my hands. It'll never be as good as it was in my younger days though.

Jeffrey,  Those cars look really nice! I especially like the Union Pacific hopper!

                                                                                                                                              Thayne,

Thanks. I had to fade the UP writing a bit. A bit of non-acetone nail polish remover did the trick. A little rust, a tiny bit of black and some dark earth was used for the weathering.

***Jeffrey, they are all effective, but I especially like the work you did on the Weyerhaeuser car.Yes

Thanks. That was probably the hardest one. It seems like it has a million corners on the sides and ends.

***Ray, agree with you 100% on CCs and loans, etc. Cash for everything here, for the rest of my life. I have never found oweing anybody anything enjoyable, even family. Once probate is complete, I'll pay off the rest of the mess. Just keeping a couple things going until the end of this year, just for tax purposes.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe just a hot cocoa to tide me over to supper.

Got all the outside stuff done.  Oddly enough since I got out the step ladder and climbed up to check out each of the eave troughs,  they had very little of anything in them....  'twas quite a bit of gravel coming loose for the roof, but it should be good to next summer when it will be replaced.  Did a bit of re[pair on the old Snow Blower...  that too is showing a bit of age and will probably get replaced next tear.  I have had it about 10 years so it doesn't owe me much...

GalaxyNo more loans for this guy!  Period!  I plan to be paying cash for everything from now on.  If I don't have cash for it, I don't need it for the most part.  Besides I still can transfer $$$ from my old revolving credit from the Credit Union if I absolutely had an emergency that couldn't wait.  How does 3.9% sound...  No Commercial Bank BS!!!

If my furnace was to completely quit (it should be good for a couple more years), I still have 2 gas heaters that can handle the house pretty well, and the wood stove.  It gets below zero, might have to get up and feed the stove a couple times during the night.  I have been camping in a tent when the wind chill was 75° below zero...  think i can handle 50 or 60's if I have to in the house....Whistling

Well, RAY...we just done did the furnace thing... Watch out if they offer you financing...know what the terms are before you sign anything and with WHO...Our "reliable" company said 'we are a financially sound company and can offer financing"...I thought the financing would be directly with tehm as they are a large company in the area...then I found out they farmed out the financing to Wells Fargo Bank with a 6 month no-interest loan {but interest accrues and is due if you don't pay at the end of 6 months} at the "fair rate" of 30% on a Cash advance on a "Capital home improvement Credit card"!!! The other thing that bugs me is that I can use the CC for anything...but it comes atthe same High interest rate! Talk about a rip off!!!!!

With teh help of some cash gifts from my father we will be able to pay it off within the 6 months.

Learned the hard way we will never do that again!!!

Good thing I had some cash to put down but the installer also informed me the roof was in bad need of resealing...so there went another $600 that could have gone to the furnace bill. BUT that probably saved us form having a leaky roof this winter!!!

I got the ten cars weathered. They now look just as rusty and dirty as any of my others. I wanted to get them done today as tomorrow is bill paying day. I get to be depressed as I watch my Social Security check disappear. I'll have photos of the cars up later.

Good Evening Folks,

just a short visit to say I am still alive, but not really kicking. I am working my "backside" off to get things going in the right direction, but at the moment I have a feeling, that for each step forward I am making two backwards. Perspectives are not as bright as I´d wish they were. Telling you about the origin of the problems would certainly blow the frame in which we can communicate here, aside from my personal remarks to the situation being well beyond forum policies.

Would someone please be so kind and move the diner to its December location?

Hope to see you all next month.

Blessings!

Coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Lee, I never enjoy spending money like that either, but those are pretty important purchases you have been making.

Will need to turn the heat on tonight, as it has been cold all week and it will get down into the 20's. Sure don't need to have any burst pipes.

Going to take it easier today. All tuckered out. Rob

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, what is all THAT bright stuff outside?  Huh?  Oh!  Sunshine?  I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes and a side order of bacon to go along with a cup of dark roast coffee this morning....  Oh, leave the bottle of NYS Dark Amber Maple Syrup right here at the table please!

Currently 43°F outside in the Finger Lakes with a high of 41°F later.....  (Let me recheck THAT.)  Yep THAT is what it says....

Lee, Christmas Cards?  Oh I guess it is Advent already...  I got another few weeks before I have to worry about the Santa thing....  He's the patron Saint of Mall Wart I think.  I prefer to do the Nicholas Bishop of Smyrna thing myself. Smile, Wink & Grin

Todd, the company I had repair the furnace is my usual one I use.  It is a well established and respected local Family Owned Propane Dealer nearby.  The owner is a member of my church and was at one time a member of my Boy Scout Troop committee.  They installed both the through the wall heater in the living room and the heater for the train rooms down cellar.  They will be who I buy the next main furnace from.  Probably won't even shop around since I know they are dependable, treat their employees well, and contribute in a very positive way to the community at large.  Those issues are more important to me than the cost.  The last time I needed the furnace repaired it was about 5° outside and it needed to be be done right away.  They were booked solid for the next two weeks and gave me the name of the other company as a possibility....

Sue, you do appear to keep busy!

Today I think I shall finish all the little outdoor things needing to be done while it is not precipitating out there....

Later!

Good morning, Chloe.  You work long hours.  I need the strong stuff this morning, please.  I went back to sleep  and feel groggier than when I wake up early.Zzz

I have another wreath party planned for the other office.  Yes, I have 2 jobs.  It helps keep us in toys.  Larry is working on a trailer that he had when he was a kid.  He painted it green, and plans to put the NP logo on it.

Congrats on the washer & dryer, Lee.

Later,  Sue

Good Morning All,

39F today with rain and high winds.

All my Christmas cards are ready to be mailed, Wahoo!  Then I forgot to bring them with me to drop them off at the post office.

Wrapped the final Christmas present last night.

I pulled the trigger on a new Maytag washer and dryer last night, it will be nice not going to the laundry mat and spending $2.25/ washer.  To me it was like buying a furnace, don’t really want to spend the money but it was something I needed.

Good Morning!! Coffee and scrambled eggs with gravy please. Thanks.

Mornin’ Tim.

Hey, who drove the old “Johnny Popper” in? I always like listening to those.

Sunny, with a high near 42. Right now it’s 25. Winter is here.

I prefer the boys and girls in Brown myself. My niece has to go to the FedEx place to pick up her packages “delivered” by them. They say her house doesn’t existTongue Tied. She always says “the brown trucks can find me just fine” She lives, not in the country, and her street address is not hard to find. True she is the only house on that section of street, a dead end, but it’s not like she’s half mile from the corner in the weeds. It’s Williamsville for crying out loud. You can Google Earth the address and there it is. Pictures and all. The section of the street has 1 house on it, if you don’t count the elevator office,.. hers.

Welp, Floor Wars: Williamsville gets full underway today. Yesterday I pulled the carpet and the linolium(sp?) up and de-stapled, gotta screw down a squeak (personally I kinda like that squeak, kinda gives a bit of character and charm. BUT! Overruled) , then the roofing paper and then the wood. I shall be just outside the office door so I may be able to stop in from time to time today. But don’t hang around and wait. Hear that Barry? Don’t hang around, I may not stop back in. You can’t use that as an excuse for getting out of HD’s. I ain’t a listening to Audrey about me keeping you from getting things done. I get enough of that around here.

Ray- Glad the furnace is up and running. Sounds like you’re in for a new furnace. Oh well, you’ll want an energy efficient one anyway. I’d keep the name of the fellow that just fixed your furnace for the install. If he only repairs, then I’d ask him who he recommends. He probably knows guys equally fair and good.

J.R.- I see we share yet another thing in common. BDMDS. Or commonly called Budmuds in the Handyman field. That's Bondo and Drywall Mud Deficiency Syndrome. Just can’t seem to do it well enough. Used for finishing drywall of course. Slopping it in the layout is no problems. Of course sometimes I look at the job the “professionals” did on our houseNo and I think, (shakes head) “gee, I can do it that good….and usually do.”

Rob- I’m with the rest of the guys on this too. Sure glad you didn’t try the drain pipe fix.

It’s just too bad we all live in a cyber hood instead of being real neighbors. I bet we’d have the best area around. Plenty of help and a layout like no other. Of course on second thought, we may not get much done for all the yacking we do. Buy stock in the coffee market if it ever happens! Laugh

Good morning. It's 37° and clear. The high will be 58° and it will be mostly sunny.

On the schedule for today is car weathering. There are ten freight cars lined up and they're way too clean and glossy. I have the weathering powder and the brush ready to go and I'll be starting on the first car later this morning IF nothing else comes up. I'll be taking photos of each car after they're done.

Good Morning All,

Waiting at the terminal to board the flight. Drive up was good if drizzly. Surprised so many people have no clue on how to go through security yet. Been the same proceedures more or less for a decade now.

Museum went well last night fixed the O gage upper loop and got the Pennsy 4-4-2 steamer back up and running.

Time to go stand in line.   CUL, J.R.

*stumbles in*  Hey all!  Life's been busy around here.  Glad to hear that everyone has had a great Thanksgiving (we had 50 and fed 52 people at my parents/grandparents house).  Also hope that everyone was able to get all they wanted on the associated black Friday and cyber Monday sales.  Again, I state that life has been pretty busy around here.  W**k has been keeping me going pretty well, also have had some side jobs to do that have kept me out and off of here.

Nothing for me tonight as I'm about to head off to bed.  Gotta get up early in the morning to move a non-functional recliner out of the living room and sent it off to greener pastures.  Of course I also have to try to find out where the electrical draw is in my Impala, as it will kill a battery if the vehicle sits more than a day and a half without being cranked, soooo, yeah.  Then of course I have to w**k by 2 and close (its truck night, and hopefully everyone will have it all put up by the time I get there).   if not, then I'll be putting things up myself.

Well, that's about it for me.  Glad to hear that Jeff is doing well and was able to get a few presents.  Rob, my thoughts are with you and your fishes in the pond and for a speedy fix of the pipe.  Guess I'm heading off to bed now.  Later taters!

Evening folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me tonight.  Don't want to toss and turn until the time Sue gets up you know....

Got quite a bit done today.  Had to get all the financial stuff done for the MLK Committee meeting tonight.  Unhooked, drained, and put away the garden hose.  Don't think I will need to water the garden again until next summer.....  Found a few onions out in the garden that didn't get pulled earlier this fall.  They became part of an oven roasted piece of chicken and vegetables I had for supper.  I still have broccoli growing nicely out there.  Think i will have some tomorrow.   And...  I even got a bit more done on the interior of the Power House.  Oh!  Got a package today from Micro-Mark.  Just a bunch of odds and ends, their disposable little paint brushes, a few clamps, and a small coping saw.

About the only thing I still need to do outside before snow flies is to clean the eaves of leaves, and bend a bit of metal back in shape on the snow blower....

It is very, very dark out tonight.  No Moon, no stars, just heavy cloud cover and lots of precipitation out there.  We had about a half inch of liquid sunshine today with more scheduled for tonight.  Tomorrow may bring something called "flurries"......

Have a great night!

Good evening. I just finished converting the last of the ten freight cars I've been working on. It's a Bachmann gondola. For some reason known only to Bachmann the body sits four mm higher than other cars. That's almost three scale feet! :o It's also the height of a Kadee draft gear box. So this car has four gear boxes instead of two and the couplers are at the proper height. Now all ten cars are lined up for the next step. Weathering. I'll take photos of each car as it's done. I wouldn't want you to miss it.

Now it's time to hit the sack. I'll see y'all tomorrow.
