Coffee refill, please.

***Galaxy, that is a very sad situation for both of them. Yikes!

Managed to get a small section of tin returned to the backside of the main barn roof today. Then while up there, screwed down a number of other loose sections. Short of a micro burst or tornado, it should stay up there. That left pectoral thing is sore now, so I'm done with the physical stuff for the day. Doesn't take much.

It's 59F here so the house is wide open.

Hope y'all are doing well.

Will be in a corner booth awhile. Rob

Lion, I am pretty sure I listened to a story about your elderly cowboy monk friend on NPR (national public radio) a few weeks ago? sounded like the same guy to me the other day when you guys were talking black cows.

Yup, that be us. It was *supposed* to be a quiet deal... but the local paper wanted to come out and do a story, and of course it went out on the AP line. So far the story has gone across USA, Canada and Germany.

So much for a quiet deal, eh? I mean really, hundreds of ranchers sell of their cows and quit business every year, and every year a bunch of young sprouts buy the herds and enter the business of ranching, or else established ranchers want to increase their operations. Now seems to be a good time to sell, cattle prices seem to be high, but beef prices are expected to go up even more in the next two years, so it also seems to be a good time to buy.

But then we are the last monastery in the USA to be in the farming business, and agriculture has been a feature of monasteries for more than a thousand years.

And we are not even the only monastery with a model railroad layout.

Lion, I really like your cat photos. Sometimes I wish I had a photobucket account so I could post pictures. I have some great shots of lions and cheetah that we took in Africa. I have one of me being licked on the face by a cheetah. We were at a game sanctuary where they had 2 tame cheetah. Our guide had a deal with the attendants that for a fee, they would let people into their enclosure to 'pet' the cheetah. One female was very tame and would lie down and you could lie right against her. Man the purring was loud! Anyway I gave the back of her neck a little nuzzle with my head( a moment of temporary insanity) and she turned her head to give me 2  big licks on my face. Either she really liked me or was just doing a sample taste. She was certainly beautiful and large as she weighed about 120 pounds.

An account on Google's Picassa is a good choice as well. They also offer some software to make uploads easier, and even help edit pictures. Of course the LION hosts his photos on his own server, so it is a simple cut and paste.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the Eggs Benedict and a cup of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug if you please.

Sue and Thayne, Yes, If I was in the truck I probably would have opted to take my chances just hitting the deer.....  I wouldn't have had room to manuver it around the thing without still hitting it and probably flipping the truck.  The Yaris is very sure footed and responsive (very low center of gravity)... I had room to just miss the deer and not go off the shoulder of the road.  I did not hit the brakes so there was no danger of the locking and having a problem that way.....  I have been driving all kinds of vehicles (since I was 4 years old) and always take time to learn what the limits are in any vehicle I drive all the time.  If I was in a semi, hi cube, or SUV...  Yep (I hope) I would have hit the deer straight on after braking a hard as I could (releasing the brakes just before impact, BTW).  My understanding that it is best to let the wheels roll free....???  The Yaris did a quick little slalom and came right back onto the lane in the road just as I thought it would.  I am hoping somebody else didn't get nailed by it!

I have to get the house cleaned up a bit before the last of the Boy Scouts from Troop 44 get here this afternoon.  Amazing how cluttered the place can get in a couple days....

Have a good one!

Good morning Gang!  We got about 4 inches of the white stuff last night. I guess I better get out there and clean some off the deck and back lawn so my little buddy snoop will go out and do his business... I wish I had some of Charlies elves!

Jeffery, Great job billboarding  your moms line of sight with the semi, LOL!

Galaxy, How do you know so much about the meaning of words like Saturday? Very interesting!

Todd, I still have not figured out that Google street view idea of yours but when I do I am going to take a tour of the towns where some of you live. That was a great idea! Thanks.

Lion, I am pretty sure I listened to a story about your elderly cowboy monk friend on NPR (national public radio) a few weeks ago? sounded like the same guy to me the other day when you guys were talking black cows.

Ray, Your power house looks really nice! Great work. I have been a driver my whole life, At ups we are trained to hit animals head on. the reason is when you yank the wheel or over correct that's when you end up rolling or heading off road etc, Glad you avoided hurting yourself or damaging your car!

Off to make some saw dust on the bench work project,    Thayne.

Coffee in a COLD SOUTHERN mug, please. It's 55 in the house. These days, that is cold for me. Wearing extra layers.

***YGW, somehow I must have missed your post. I've only seen others responses, so I do not know what is going on? Sending healing thoughts your way.

Many MRRing projects still sit downstairs unfinished. One is the chicken house, which needs completion before I can set up the very cool silos Der built. That should be priority #1 when I start back in on it.

Been thinking more about the Soylent Green Plant and have concluded, if the plant is going to be entirely different from the one in movie, why do I need to recreate the same Scoop Trucks? In the original movie concept, huge tractors were going to be used, but their budget would not allow for them. So, I could use (or modify) stuff I already have on hand for crowd control machines. I have never been a rivet counter, although there is nothing wrong with that.

Cleaning up the house a bit. Not much else to report on.

Went shopping already and Scored the TG turkey!!!

I couldn't decide on a 10 pounder or a 12 pounder, so I bought an 11 pounder!!! {ha Ha}. That was jsut the size I wanted. MOH not so fond of turkey..well at least not white meat so much. I don't care I LOVE turkey, though I DO prefer dark meat!!! I will eat roasted turkey any day!! I have been known {if I have the space} to load up the freezer witha n extra whole bird for the early may time fraome before it gets to hot to runthe oven that long for an extra taste of the bird!!!

Got butternut squash to go with it {brown sugar and butter makes it great} and Stove top stuffing {only kind MOH likes..doesn't even like my homemade *sniff* *sniff*} and corn or french cut green beans- NO Green BEAN CASSAROLE PLEASE said MOH} PICKY PICKY eater MOH is. I tell ya. Likes my Homemade gravy with the giblets diced into it and the the giblets diced into the stuffing though. Oh, got cranberriies and oranges to make cranberry sauce..whole wiht zest of orange...Ocean Spray used to have a recipe for it in the back, but if I substitue the 1 cup water for 1 cup OJ squeezins nad srape some zest into the berries, shoudl be about the same.

Turkey should defrost by Wed nite to prep for thursday's cooking.

Well.now Ican wind down and take a nap...been up since 4:45.

Later tater gaters!!!

Good morning, Chloe.  We are getting an early start.  It is snowing, so it might take a little longer getting to the train show.  Can't let a little snow slow us down.

The wreath party went well.  The noble fir boughs are on our place.   The company cutting boughs is coming today.  That was good timing.

Ray, Glad you missed the deer.  If you were driving an SUV, it could have flipped.

Jeffrey,  You are on a gondola roll.Thumbs Up  Thanks for reminding me we need to look for some at the train show.

Later,  Sue

Ken- You aren’t alone in the don’t change the fluid side. I ain’t a arguen. Just my thoughts, like I said I don’t claim to know anything about auto trans’s’s’s’s’.

Charlie- Yes. A 4wd Ram 1500. Reeeeal nice driving truck.

Well, I best get doing something even if it’s wrong. I’ve still got to cut back the Black Raspberries and cut out the dead Blackberry branches and a gutter to clean, or rather a downspout.

Good morning. It's 52 and partly cloudy. For the high today it will be 72, partly cloudy and more humid. There will be a 10% chance of rain this evening going up to 30% or more after midnight.

Nothing going on today other than cleaning up a bit after some projects. Had a good time yesterday, lots to eat. I had the job of being my mother's minder and driver, both of which can be quite stressful. When passing through town on the way back home I stayed beside a tractor-trailer so it was between us and the Leesville shopping district effectively blocking any sight of SALE signs at the clothing stores and therefore was a good thing. The last thing I wanted to do was spend a couple of wasted hours in a clothing store. That woman will buy anything marked down. The only reason she hasn't brought home an escalator or elevator is because none of the stores have any being that they're all one story structures. Well hopefully today will be quiet.

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Saturday, November 19th, 2011!!!

Skandinavian = The skandinavian name of "Saturday" has its name from the Germanic god Sataere (an agriculture-deity, maybe Njord or Loki?). Now the scandinavians use the name Laugardargur ("Washing Day") for Saturday .
- Icelandic = Laugardargur ("Washing Day")
- Swedish = Lördag ("Washing Day")
- Danish = Lørdag ("Washing Day")
- Norwegian = Lørdag ("Washing Day")
- Dutch = Zaterdag (got its name from the anglo-saxon: sater daeg = "Day of Sataere", see above. Or from the latin 'Dies Saturni'- Saturn's day)
- German = Samstag (got its name from the anglo-saxon: sater daeg = "Day of Sataere", see above. Or from the latin 'Dies Saturni'-Saturn's day)
- English =
Saturday (got its name from the anglo-saxon: sater daeg = "Day of Sataere", see above. Or from the latin 'Dies Saturni'- Saturn's day)

Of course, Saturn's day was the day to start off the idea of the origin of the names of the day's of the week!!!

Have a GREAT day!!!

Good Evening, well what's left of it anyway,

Johnboy, that is quite enough of that winter complete with snow that you have sent our way. Mind you I don't have to shovel as we have elves that come in the night and in the morning I come out and it is all done! Last night it was 3 a.m. which didn't amuse my wife but I just thought, glad it isn't me, and went back to sleep. Hope they wait a little later tonight as the drive is right by our bedroom. All that scraping is a little annoying. Those elves  will just have to put rubber strips on their shovels so they are quiet while going over the driveway.

YGW, so sorry to hear about your wife. Do drop in and let us know how it is going for you.

Todd, I seem to recall a little while ago your mentioning a new truck. Would it by chance be a Dodge?

Rob, nice to see you in here often. I agree with Garry and think you really should consider going to your neighbours for thanksgiving.  Oh and I recall your post about your Dad being a bombardier. My Dad did that too! He was in a Halifax with a RAF squadron. I have his log book and while it doesn't say  much I was surprised at how long the trips were, often 7 or 8 hours. He flew 21 missions so I guess I'm lucky to be here.

Last weekend we went to visit our friends in Thief River Falls. Had a very nice time. They took me out for a birthday dinner to a nice spot that has really great ribs. I also picked up my MB Kleins order which resulted in decoder wars this week. Digitrax may make good motor decoders but their sound ones are c***p.  I didn't care if my GP9 sounded like a GP38. The stupid thing has a 32 ohm speaker which was just a little too large for the spot in the fuel tank. I tried an 8 ohm but then it ran like c***p. Just try to find 32 ohm speakers. Yes I know there are Tsunamis, etc. but I can't see putting a $100 decoder in a $50 Bachmann engine. I also replaced a MRC sound decoder in my light mountain with a Digitrax motor decoder and a newer MRC sound decoder. It worked fine on factory settings but after I had programmed it, I found I had programmed out all functions entirely including factory reset. I didn't see any magic smoke but I think it leaked out when I wasn't looking.

I'm not tired even if it is late as I fell asleep in front of the TV watching a DVD of old railroad promo  films. I was awake to see one of the SP with some nice cab forward shots.

If I keep this going much longer l'll be able to include a good morning greeting so  better sign off. Besides I don't want to scare away the elves.

Evening all.  Just stopping in before bed.  Today was an interesting day at w**k.  Nowhere near as interesting as Ken's day was, but nonetheless interesting.  Was able to get off at a reasonable time and get home to spend some quality time with the family.

Yesterday was, however; more interesting than today was.  While I was at w**k a guy that I know for about a year now and currently works for Swift Transportation as a reefer tech came in and told me that they (Swift) are looking for mechanics to work in their shop down in Brundidge, AL (co-sited with a Wal Mart DC).  Sounded like a good deal for me, although I have no "real" HD diesel experience, I do have plenty of AUTOMOTIVE experience as I've been doing this for the past 9 years.  So I put in an app with them.  Worst case scenario, they don't want me and I'll never know the difference.  Best case scenario, I get back into a shop environment with set hours and a pay increase.  As it has been said before, it never hurts to keep the eyes and ears open and look and listen when things come up.

YGW: My sincere condolences and prayers on the bad news that your wife has received, our hearts and prayers go out with you on this one.  I can't imagine what you're going through right now, but as its been said before, we're here.

Ulrich: I'm glad to hear that your job situation is going as well as it is.  I wish you many happy trails, full sails, and following seas.  I also can only imagine how proud you are of your son.  It sounds like quite an honor.

Welp, that's about it for me, I've gotta w**k tomorrow in the morning, but I get off around 3, and Amy will be in Montgomery doing some scrap booking thing that she likes to do, so I might very well get home, get into my camo and go sit in the woods and see if any furry antlered animals come into the sights of my trusty .30-06.

Hi, although I am a newbie to the diner..

Please, Flo, get us a round!

Ken I feel for ya, I worked at a couple companies that had an acronym letter code for every single thing. It was like learning another language! Geez!  I also feel for ya, as when I wake up I am challenged by severe stairs, with echos of joints popping, slowness & general muscles that were still asleep,  -I know what you mean! If were were only a 'rubbery 24 year-old again!!! Imagine what we could do now!!

Ken, I'm pullin for ya, hope the job works out A-OK, cuz we want to see more of your nice trainwork, OK?

Hoping everyone else takes care too.  Enjoy the nice dinner at the Diner,   & Say, thanks Flo!!

Evening Folks. Sigh

Flo, Beer Please.

Sink Or Swim Time. If I fail at the new job is will be my bad typing, not being able to see well and lack of training. Just keep hitting the darn wrong buttons! We use F3 and F2 a lot. F2 brings up the screen to look up tires sizes and F3 to back out of the screen. Keep hitting F3 when I am trying for F2 and close the estimate section. Bang Head Then I have to start all over!

Hard to read the screen, today I was looking for a 2010 Jeep to add something, and I picked a 2000 Jeep and was adding the parts to its ticket. Bang Head Ah that not going to work out well, of course Davie got it, not me. Bang Head Maybe new glasses will help.

Adding need work to the inspection, that is where lack of training comes in. All the darn codes I need to know! BAC, ACA, ACAD, WAP, ROT, BDC and the list goes on.

Patching a tire should be simple right? Here are all the possible codes that might be needed.

 IPT

 IPR

 IPRHP

 IPRUHP

 TRP

 IPT

 IPTHP

 IPTUHP

 IRT

And that is just to fix a tire, depending on sizes, speed rating and if it has a Tire Pressure Monitor System. Now ask about brake repair codes?

I have found out one thing about my self. I am a tuff old bird. While I still walk a little slower than I would like I can still stand and walk for 10 hours a day. Legs have gotten stronger and joint are holding up pretty good. Only thing that still hurts and not as bad is the bottom of my feet.

Well, I am done with my pity party.

  See you all Saturday!

                    Ken

Evening All,

I'm back and much calmer. Ate supper and watched a little TV. Then I went up and laid the last piece of track and soldered it in place and successfully tested it. I will probably put in the cardboard frame and  portals tomorrow and with luck plaster it on Sunday.

Great Photos to everyone in WPF this week and I have to say the color of Ray's building is fantasticYes

Prayers for all those in needAngel

Have a good night.

Good Evening All,

Long day trying to find non-existant French wheel bearings and wrestling with another gearbox. Off to the house now and perhaps some train time!

My prayers for YGW and wife and the rest of you in need.

For those of you struggling with track remember "He who has made no mistakes probably hasn't made much".

So a little boy was in his back yard with a shovel.

His neighbor looking over the fence said "What are you digging for?"

The little boy said "I'm digging a hole to bury my goldfish."

The neighbor said "That's sweet, but isn't that a big hole for a goldfish?"

The little boy looked up and said "Yes,but he's in your cat."

Catch y'all later, J.R.

Hi All,

Well it was a very frustrating day. I figured that it would take me 2 hours max to lay track. Yeah right. The open end (yard side) had to be laid twice with a big time sanding in between. I got that fixed so that my steamers would run through that side without  problem forward and reverse at 60 on the throttle then I had to fix the other side. I tried to do it without removing the tunnel portal. Well after futzing around for a hour I decided to remove the portal, which of course required removing the mountain. I redid the roadbed and the inclines so I still need to relay that portion of the track. So after I lay the track tomorrow then I have to rebuild the mountain.

Please remind me why I enjoy this hobby. Thanks for letting me vent, I feel better now.

It's a good thing those tigers are outside animals. I'd hate to change a ltter bos for one if it was inside.

Think it through... Those animals are in a cage. *Somebody* has to go in there to er clean up a bit, and cut the grass and clean the windows. Ramu can slobber up a window fairly quickly.

The answer is, of course, they do not feed the animals in the cage. They have apartments (the zoo keepr calls them dens) behind that iron door in the back wall. He cleaned out the apartments in the morning after he let the animals out. In the evening he places meat (lots of meat) in the apartments, a dish for each animal, and he opens the metal door. The sound of that door opening calls the cats in just as fast as you please. The door closes behind them, and the associate keeper gets to go into the yard to clean up everything, without the cats looking at him funny.

Hi JEFF:

Having been the guy that nick-named you  "The Spray Can Remberant"  I now need a further explanation of the highlighted letters under Running Bear.

Some of them look a little Russian or Ukrainian, but I don't think I have ever read where you mentioned that.  I have been wondering for sometime now.  More likely some Native American lettering.  But I think we all would like to know.

Coffee refill, please.

***Ray, that certainly would get the blood pumping. Glad you were able to dodge it. And I must say, I'll take your kind of kitty over one of those tigers anyday. Tiger are exceptionally beautiful though.

Must get the car vibration problem fixed asap now, as I need to meet with the tax guy. Not sure where to take it yet. Will be glad when both those tasks are checked off the ToDo list.
