Good Morning Gang!

Is it safe to return?

I was touched a little by some of the comments on the US government financial crisis & how to solve it by not paying out SSI, so I decided to stay a way for some moments before saying something stupid. Those of you who know me a little better understand why I am a little sensitive about this issue.

Zoe, coffee and a breakfast bagel, please - I´ll stay here at the RC for a while.

The last couple of days saw me at the drawing board, sweating over the track plan and trying to come up with ideas for the scenery of my 4th module. It is the one to the right of my tunnel module, so it needs to be another tunnel module. I want this module to have a breathtaking scenery, not just a mirror of the other tunnel module. I´d like this module to be the scenic highlight of the layout - not an easy task when you have a footprint of only 96 sq. inches! There is an idea in my head, but I run into continuity issues if I pursue it. Each module is a scene of its own, but put together, the modules should look somehow consistent. I have been straining and draining my brain how to solve this, but no conclusion on it. I am not good a making drawings, but I´ll give it a try and post it here.

Have a good day!

Veggie plate, please.

***Ray, I hope you are not planning on roofing that workshop. As for the hitting a brace board, is that something I wasn't suppose to do on my wife's layout?WhistlingLaugh

***Ken, let me outline the details of the receiver problems and we'll go from there. There is no external fuse and I double checked all settings and tried other options/hook-ups and I can say with certainty, it no longer can produce any sound. It can send a video signal "through" to the TV and the Menu still works. But it has had video issues from day one, too, even after being returned from a repair center (before the warranty expired).

Worked outside a bit today. Tuckered out now.

Dr Pepper please. Thanks. Got pretty warm today and that was just a teaser for the rest of the week. Girls stock up on the ice.

Whoa! Bill brought in a good looking…….chicken dinner there.

Just stopped in to see what condition my condition was in. Pretty good I guess.

I here Ray and Jeffrey are starting a new social networking site called “Tooter”. Good luck guys, I’d like to be one of your first folks to blast onto the scene if it's alright with you. Sure would be wonderful relief of the pressing problems we all have and a great place to sound off from time to time. I hope  you don't have to raise too much of a stink to get it done. If you need any letters of recommendation don't hesitate to ask, I'll be more than happy to float one your way.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me right at the moment.  I'll be in the back booth relaxing.

Stan.......  Nice!  Very nice!!!  I'm referring to both the painting and the collection.  I will plan on driving down to see your museum, and hopefully meeting you later this fall.

I have spent most of the day just picking up, cleaning, and w*rking on the Engine House Project,  Got to do THAT because part of the cleaning was to do a couple loads of wash. Whistling  Anyway, I got quite a bit more of the roof rafters and braces in place.  I have one more major scratch build to do for this project....

http://www.cats.funnyvidi.com/videos/view.php?id=yqomSPM-kXg&feature=youtube_gdata_player

THAT should be fun......Smile, Wink & Grin

I had to remove some of the wiring I had put in under the Engine House as When I went to cut the hole on the layout it would have sat down in, I found there was a brace board right under it.....  Duh!  Haven't done anything THAT stupid in quite some time (Yes I have done some stupid things almost THAT bad, but not THAT bad....).  So, out came the soldering iron and some extra wire to do it another way.  I did do a test fit of the building where it will reside on the layout near the quarry:

Hope you all have a great evening!

Good evening Fellas!

It's been awhile, but I finally, FINALLY completed the NKP painting! Here's a look:

It was tough, but worth it! I decided to give it that rural Indiana in November look.

Garry, I'm looking high and low for the image I think would make the best Burlington painting.

Tom, that's an exceptional layout you have, nice video!

Thanks to all for the nice comments on the paintings and the layout. I wish I had more time to spend on the layout during the Summer, but at least I'm getting ample time to work on the paintings. I had a chance to adjust some of the showcases at the Museum today, this is a view of my personal collection of BR&P and B&O artifacts that I exhibit there each year. Just about everything you see including the lanterns and hats are mine, most were found right here in the Salamanca area:

Well, I'd better sign off!

As for dinner, I'll have what Bill's having with the waitress on the side!Wink

 Evening Folks!

Flo, buck of ice water over my head and a Beer Please.

Work Front Again a moral victory with only 2 customers and both bought for $1400.00. Best part was I sold another spiff mattress and mad a extra $6.00.

Things did not go so well when it was time to leave. Sue came with me and dropped me off at work and ran around. When she got to the store she told be there is something wrong with the car. Said it did not want to start and the A/C went out. Well the reason she did not think the car want to start was because it is so quite. Reason it is so quite, the blower motor stopped work! Grumpy Boy it was a hot ride home for my wife, she thinks she is going to die with out A/C. I am hoping all it is, is a fuse for the blower motor. Normally a blower motor will make a racket if it is dying, I am crossing my fingers that is all it is.

Home A/C unit. Well at this point I am still up in the air about how this one is working. I bought the LG 8000 BTU unit from Home Depot for $200.00. While we have not hit the 100 degrees we where told it has been hitting low 90's. House is noticeably cooler, and the central air does shut down. It is now cooler in the house than the garage when I go in, so we are making head way.

Air still does not seem as cool as I thing it should, my old garage A/C seems colder. Think I am still going to up grade the unit to a GE 10,000 BTU, or maybe there 12,000 unit. They have a internet special where I can get the 10 K unit for $27.00 more or the 12 K unit for $69.00 more.

Galaxy Far as me belly aching I am down to $832.00 in savings. I understand to many here that is a lot of money. But it is my only safety net and peace of mind I have. With you having over $5,000.00 in CC debit you know $800.00 is nothing. I have no credit and it will be years before I will have credit again. Big thing to me is having money for car repairs, our Town Car has 159,000 miles on it, and the Daytona is more than likely toast. Plus if Bank Of Stupid does foreclose, it is our deposit for some places to live.

Tom I was wondering where the sound was coming from. Laugh

Rob My daughters boy friend does amp repairs, would you like me to ask if he will check it out for you? Does any part of it work? In other words power up but you cannot get the tuner part to work, but CD player work? Have you checked the fuse in the back? Does your speakers have fuse's? I have freaked more than a few times when I thought my equipment died and found it to be something stupid. Some of my gear is from 1978, now that is old. If you like to talk send me a PM.

Gary Glad you are glad I posted your picture, it was the only one I had with more than one passenger train.

Hum, starting to worry again about Ulrich! It not like him to have nothing to say for 48 hours!

Well, I was going to BBQ, but it is just to darn hot.

  See you all Monday.

Curt:

Check the rail connectors on that Peco.  I found out that my Peco ladder track was dead because of one lousy loose connector!  And that's after I re-wired everything and ran a feeder to it.  Those Pecos are excellent turnouts, but they're VERY testy if your rail connectors are the least bit loose.

Afternoon All,

Been futzing around the layout today. Cleaned the track on the layout, boy was it dirty. I am surprised anything ran on it. Still having the stopping issues when using my hand held throttle so I am pretty much convinced it is either a UR92 or a DT402D problem. No issues when controlling from the base station. Our club DCC guy said he would come out and look at it. About 3 weeks ago I upgraded the throttle to Rev 12. I am wondering if that is the problem.

I tracked the siding turnout issue to one PECO 5L. It has power going straight, but no power on the left side when the points are thrown. I'm going to try a jumper before I replace it. Fingers crossed.

Hope everyone has a good evening and upcoming week.

Tom ... Thanks for teh comment. The locomotive is a Bachmann 4-8-2, and it has been custom painted. There was no effort to detail it to be exactly like a GN locomotive. It is a "close enough" model.

Morning from SunnyCal, everyone.

Coffee and cinnamon toast for me.  No, not the stuff with RAISINS--yuck!--the other kind.  Thanks.

Well, being back into the hobby is bringing its share of frustrations, too.  Seems my Peco 'ladder' turnouts in Deer Creek yard decided to go Dead on me last night around 7:30.   Now I just put these in about three weeks ago to replace some Sinohara code 83 that were giving me fits and now THIS!  So I spent a couple of hours testing and fooling around.  Seems that they're 'selective' about which locomotive can travel over them and stay 'live'.  So, it's not a turnout problem per se, but seems to be a pickup problem on one of my Yellowstones.  My little 2-8-0 waddles up and down them just fine.  Go figure! Tongue Tied  Now this Yellowstone does just fine on the main, but back her down the ladder to get to the engine terminal and--nothing.  But just THIS particular ladder and this particular loco.  She doesn't short out, she just stops.

So, seems I have a Sunday Project at hand.  Whew!Surprise

Thanks for the comments on my first video.  That wasn't a video camera, BTW, it was my Sony Cybershot 7.2, which I am STILL trying to figure out after having it for two years (ever tried to read the manual that comes with these things?  It reads as if it had been translated from Martian).   You're right--out of focus--I can't figure out how to turn OFF the Auto-Focus--and pulsing.  I'm wondering if it might be the Memory Card.  Of course I'm STILL surprised that it actually takes 'movies', LOL!   I'll experiment with it and see what I can do.  Of course, I suppose I could always use my DVD camera, but that's making things Simple, and sometimes I don't Work That Way. Stick out tongue

Oh, BTW, the sound wasn't coming from the locos (I don't have any sound locos anymore), but an under the table Soundtraxx QSI system.  It's a lot of fun to play with WHEN I use it, which isn't all the time.  Still trying to figure out how to get Doppler on the little devil.

Garry:  That's a neat photo of a VERY neat layout!  Just curious, but is that one of those IHC 4-8-2's?  Reason I ask, is that I have the same GN model, only in Glacier Green.  They're nice, smooth runners.  I don't mind confessing that I have a weakness for the Hill Lines (NP,GN, CB&Q)--they always seemed to do everything RIGHT!!

Well, getting the house ready for the Monday Invasion tomorrow--son and grandson--so I'd better hike off and vacuum and change the kitty-litter boxes.  Come to think of it, maybe I'll save the 'ladder' problem for my Genius Son Tom, Jr.

It's certainly going to be a little noisy around here for the next four or so days.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom Big Smile

well my indoor/outdoor thermometer says 90*, but he TV YNN news say 82* BUT LEAST YE WORRY..IT is headingour way.

It is now about 64* in here with the A/C on hihg to cool down as the temp in here WILL rise as the day wears on.

KEN-glad your check was for higher than you thought, but I have to echo to what others said if you read them...don't feel sorry for you low savings of only $800.00 as that is all I have holding desparately onto it to pay for furnace repairs next month! and OWE $5K on CC bills for auto repairs on boht vehicles. Since I can't do the work myself and MOH can't we have to pay to have it done. It is sorta good the funds dried up and program cancelled for buying house as I wouldn't wnat to be in your position in 2 years, trying to hang on to a house we really can't afford. I just hope our income keeps coming or we be in a world of hurt!.

Prayers for those in need Angel

Hi Gang: Well again we are in for 100F+. In 1980 we had 69 consecutive days of that and I hope that we don't do it again. The grass is gone as far as grazing is concerned. I'm going to put out hay again today. At least we have it, lots of ranchers don't and are having to pay really high prices for it or sell off some stock. We need to sell some of ours but Mary Ann wants to wait for cooler weather. Right now the prices are still up so I don't want to wait too long.

Tom I tried to load your video but had no luck. It just showed loading for about 5 minutes, I finally gave up.

Not much going on today. Yesterday at about 2:30pm my son-in-law called and said he needed help at my sister-in-laws down the road. The main breaker to the house went bad. It took 4 hours and a new load center to get her fixed up. there are no electrical supply houses open Saturday afternoon and Lowe's and Home Depot did not carry the 200amp breaker, just the entire load center.

Well I'd better get going as it isn't getting any cooler.

TAke care all.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of the sour dough toast to go along with dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug (and keep the mug filled for me, please).

Has a good crowd at the Museum last night.  Had a shaky start as the trolley got out to Midway, and quit.  Kicked the safety breaker on the power supply, and did it every time the driver tried to start up.  They finally found the Trolley thingamajig that connects to the wire needed to be cleaned....  So, we started about an hour late.  First few loads of visitors were big as they got backed up because of the failure.  I got to ride up the line once early in the evening and did a lot of talking with guests.  Spent most of the evening as a docent at the R&GV RR Museum.  Lots of interested people with a lot of good questions about railroads!  Fun!

Didn't get home 'til close to 11PM so I didn't post last night.  Just fed the kitties and went to bed.  Got up late this morning, so if I hurry I can get a nap in before bedtime......Whistling

Currently 86°F here in the Finger Lakes with a predicted high of 90° later.  Dry.... very dry!  My air conditioners will be left on tonight as it will stay above 70° overnight.  Calling for scattered Thunderstorms tomorrow with hail and high winds....  "Oh Joy, Oh Rapture!"  Good news is according to the weather.com site, we have not had any snow in the last 24 hours.....Whistling

Think I will spend most of today getting some stuff done on the layout.

Hope all of you have a safe and enjoyable day!

Good Morning Everybody!

OJ and Oatmeal with a bowl of blueberries on the side, please.

We had a nice evening last night at the marina. Ribeye steak sandwich was good.

Bill T .... Oh.

CN Charlie .... Congratulations on receiving your CN U2g.

Tom in CA .... I watched your video. WOW! ... The double header looks and sounded so real! I could nearly feel the ground shaking as they passed by.

Tom in PA .... I think a small train show is better than no train show.

Ken ... Glad you posted the scene of Chicago Union Station in the "Show Me" thread.

Jeff.....  Your layout scene looks good. Glad your sister will spend time with you for movies and other stuff.

Barry ..... I'm glad you keep psoting those pictures.

On the layout, I completed four bridges that will have streetcar tracks as well as streets.

Have a great day, everybody.

Tabasco lemonade Please.

Good morning. It's 76° and cloudy. The high will be 92° with a 50% chance of rain. Partly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning...then mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Chance of rain 30 percent in the morning increasing to 60 percent in the afternoon.

Not much planned for today. I may work on the layout some this morning. This afternoon my sister and I will be going to town to see a movie.

Chamomile tea, please.

***Tom, that is another cool scene and the sound is great. Only suggestion is to focus the video camera and turn off the auto focus. Seems to have a slight pulsing to it. Just a suggestion.

***Ken, my memory sucks, too. When I run water to the horses, I have to stay right there. That or I wrap a rubber band around a finger to remind me. Otherwise, I do forget all about it. Now, everytime I walk past the silent speakers and look at that #@^* Onkyo receiver, I remember. Plus every night when I like to listen to some tunes, I remember then, too.Sigh

Have a good night/morning all.

Evening all.

Sorry for my lack of presence lately. My daily routine is so consistent, that it prevents me from making it in here. It's busier than school (kinda). Wake up, do whatever needs to be done for the day, go to the beach if possible, come back to the house, shower, go to work at four, come home at eleven, and be so exhausted that I don't even feel like stopping in before bed. Same thing, day in and day out.

However, we had our family's annual party at my uncle's house up in Monmouth Beach, so I was off today. THAT's the only reason I made it in.

Other than THAT, nothing exciting has been going on around here.

I have the day shift tomorrow (11-4), so I'm hoping to make it in here sometime during the evening.

Catch ya later!

For one thing, we could cut all this foreign aid to these 3rd world countries that are more corrupt than Illinois.

Ain't none.

Thanks for the well wishes for daughter and MIL. Must have worked because there is good news. Daughter, well luckily it’s just an OD that while not life threatening is scary to those experiencing it. Just hangout and wait for the stuff to wear off and start again . MIL has Colitis. Not the greatest, but better than the uninformed symptoms suggested. All is well once again so far at the Marshall ranch.

Barry- Prayers for your sister.

Ken- I’m as happy with 16 bucks as you are. XVIII Airborne, I’ve worked with them several times, Vicenza, Italy, the Ukraine (don’t know where but then again, I didn’t drive if you know what I meanWhistling) and I believe a time or two in Korea.

Tom- Loved the videos. Notice I said videos? The Yuba River is one of my favorite Model Railroads. I’m looking forward to more videos.

Welp, it's been an interesting day and I'll have to make up for the lack of activity today, tomorrow. Plus, the dog needs to do nighty night potties.

We went to a train show this morning here in Pittsburgh. It's not a very good show, but it is close. What did I get you ask. Nothing, I answer. I think my wife was in shock that I didn't buy anything. I told her not to worry, I'm sure I'll make up for it at the October show in Timonium. Now she's depressed again.

I'm going to try a little railfanning tomorrow, but how long we sit by the tracks will depend on how hot it gets. Our weather hasn't been as bad as some of you folks have been enduring lately, but as we are both in our early seventies, we don't cope as well as we use to. If the truth be known, she probably copes with most things better than I do.

Everybody have a safe weekend and enjoy yourselves. Tom

 Evening Folks!

Flo, a Beer please, OH I have a invention to the Pitt Party Booth, point me in there direction. Smile, Wink & Grin

Work Front While it still sucked customer count wise I made the best of today as I could. I had 3 customer today and all 3 bought for $2000.00 in sales. Commission wise still up the creek, but it is still a moral victory and I am not in last places! Big Smile Plus I have $16.00 more in spiff money from Sealy! Guess that in a way is a sad statement that $16.00 means something to me, but it is more than I had.

My Pay Check. I knew this was going to happen! Whistling If you remember last week I was given a day off with out pay because we where over staffed. I got my Check today and it was for the full amount! Big Smile I swear this company cannot keep a darn thing straight or remember anything! I have been over paid more than a few times in the past, and I all wise told them about it. (they all so under paid me many times as well, and I told them about that as well) This time I am not saying a darn thing! Guess that is why we are going on are 3rd book keeper, they are driving them nuts! Smile, Wink & Grin

It is just like the Spiff Mattress I am selling. 3 months ago they sent a E-Mail out stating we are out of X, Y, Z and a few other letters and we would not get anymore of them! I was digging around in the computer and found a cash of 80 mattress that as a whole the company does not know we have and they all have Spiff Money and I am not telling! Laugh Heck in the last 5 days I have sold 6 of them for a extra $48.00.

Curt Far as selling stuff to pay the bills, I am going to list my Snap On Box on Craig List. Problem is if you start selling stuff to pay the bills you run out of things to sale. Far as the cable, letting it go, I have toyed with that idea. Problem is I have found all my jobs through cable. Plus with the wife being disabled and at this point down to 1 car she is stuck in the house 4 days a week (she goes to work with me on Sundays) and she would go nutter than she all ready is!

Kicking Mel's butt. Hum, while it would be sort of fun, not a good idea. I am 95% sure the first thing he would do is call 911 when I walked in. He was all ready some what scared of me. We are both X Military (he was a Air Forces desk jockey) and I was Army and was in the XVIII Air Born, plus he knows I was a MP and went to Recon school. Told him a few war stories, and they where good ones! Laugh  When I was let go from Mattress Giant, I later learned he was hiding in the Ladies Room because he was afraid I would go off!  Personal I was glad it happened, it was a death trap there when I left.

Only time during me leaving I got sort of *** was when I was taking my things. They include my award and plagues for sales while I was at Mattress Giant. I was putting them in a box and Lender (guy letting me go) told me "You can't take them"! I looked at him, and said "Are you going to stop me?" Well, I still have all my award. Whistling

Todd Your daughter is in my prayers as well. You have been a good friend and hope we will meet someday.

Rob Far as your paintings not selling, paint Trains! Big Smile Sorry you are not moving any lately. Far as the stereo gear, it has been in the back of my mind on and off. Stay on me about it, you can ask Jeffery, my memory sucks.

Ulrich Hope all as well as can be expiated on the home front! If I don't see you posting, I start to worry!

See you all Sunday, time to run some trains!
