Good Morning,

Todd: I’m not swabbing the deck in my basement.  Friends at work are.  We had 2 sink holes on my street where the storm drain collapsed last month and the city repaired those [knock on wood] I haven’t had any problems since.  The other guy here in the office had 23” of grey and black water in his basement.  Everything is ruined.  $8,000 in just clean up not to mention he lost a new washer & dryer, freezer, 1.5 weeks of laundry, and the basement remodeling.

I asked a trash removal guy to go look at my girlfriend’s back yard and give me a quote on removing all the old roofing material.  I was at my house and he called when he got to her house (she was at work) and asked if he could go in the back yard.  Long story short and to quote Peter Sellers: does your dog bite?  Why No, no he doesn’t.  The cleaner was at the wrong house and barely avoided being attacked by the neighbor’s dog…  He said I have 3 trucks of roofing lying back there.

I see Bill posted another temptress, so I'll have some of her.............................................................................. Chamomile tea, please. What did you think I was going to ask for!Smile, Wink & Grin

***Ken, I do not think this receiver passes a signal through without still being turned on, but I'll check on that tomorrow. Yes, it does power on and light up. I'll check it for an internal fuse tomorrow. Here is a more detail of this receiver's specs, if it helps any: http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=TX-SR876&class=Receiver&p=s A "guru" from where I bought my speakers from said this:

[Hmmm, hard to say what the problem is, just a guess but it could be that you blew the relays in the pre-amp stage, one or more transistors in the amp stage or possibly both blew at the same time.  The fact that you aren't hearing any click when you switch inputs would point toward a probably in the switching in the pre-amp stage, but when that happens a common scenario is that the pre-amp stage was overloaded by a failure that originated in the amp section. So if my suspicions are correct then it could be pretty costly to repair, possibly a few hundred dollars.] Bang HeadOuch!!!

Wife helped me glue Tinytoon's shoes on (mini dwarf horse). Knocked out some extra chores that have been on the back-burner, but won't bore you with that.

Oh, we found another tornado paper while walking the farm yesterday. It is a Badge & Issue for this person from July, 1998. Must have come from a file or box in someone's home that was destroyed. On this sheet is the persons name, SSN, and other info. And it came from NAVSHIYD, Puget Sound, WA.. Wonder how many other documents and items we still haven't spotted yet.

Have a good night y'all. Cowboy Rob

 Evening Dinners!

Flo, bucket of ices water over my head and a Beer

Work Front and the Evil Mel.

OK, work first. Well today I closed 100% on my contacts again! Big Smile Problem there was only one. But I have closed 11 out of 12 customers for 91.6%.

Now for Mel. What I will do will depend on what Shaun reports back to me Wednesday. I am going to have Shaun say he found a Queen Sealy Signature Pillow Top Series called Lagoon at my store he likes for $900.00. When I worked at Mattress Giant we called it the Tuckers Point and it sold for $2500.00 and we could go down to $1250.00.

Yes, this true pricing and you can see why Mel has resorted to saying they are used mattress, what else can he say " well we over charge, but buy it from me anyway please". Laugh

After I hear what Shaun has to say, I will call Ben and see what he wants me to do if anything.

OK now the dirty little secrete in the business, I have sold used mattress, Mattress Giant (including Mel) sales used mattress, Mattress Firm sales used mattress, every company that offers a Mattress Exchange sales there returned mattress!

Mattress Giant calls them Clearances Mattress. Every store they have that has the room for them, sales them. I have sold OH I guess around 30 of them in my time there. Now, I did tell the customers they have been in someones home. But after they where cleaned, personally I would not have a problem with them being sleep on. I use to travel a lot for a living, I am pretty sure they did not places new mattress in the room before I got there.

Mattress Firm and my Company sales them at Clearances Stores. While I don't know the details of how Mattress Firm handles it, my company clearances store sales all Queens for $399.00 and Kings for $699.00. All mattress are steamed cleaned at 260 degrees so there are no critters in them.  You could but a $4500.00 King Mattress from us at are clearances store for $699.00 and that is a fact!

Back To Mel. Depending what if anything Ben lets me do, here is a couple of ideas.

1 While I would not call Mel a friend, I do think he might have some integrity. He may honestly think I am selling exchanged mattress. My new ones would be about the same prices as there clearances ones. So if Ben says it is OK, I will go have a talk with him, with out the Tire Iron. Laugh

2 Show up with one of are delivery trucks with a Lagoon Pillow Top New In the Bag. He should recognizes it as being the Tuckers Point they have for $2500.00. Show him some invoices where I have sold them it for $900.00, seeing is believing right?

3 If the above does not work, You Got A Want A. What is the shipping cost of a tire iron to 62062.

OK, I am off the SoapBox for now and will let you know what I find out Wednesday.

Cox 47 Jerry. I have been meaning to do this for ever, but what part of ILL do you live? Be happy to meet you faces to Faces. I live in Maryville.

Joe. I tried the Digitrax Zephyr and personal did not like it better than my E-Z command. Yes, it could read and write CV's and had more power. But, I went with a PR 3 with Decoder Pro for the CV work. Much easier that using a DCC system and it was only $65.00.

I don't know how you like to run your trains, but my self I like to more than one train per main line.I have two main lines and they are good sizes, one is 90 feet and the other one is 70 feet. With the E-Z when you go from one engine to another running at the same time, you have to guess where you had the throttle setting, turn the knob to where you thing you had it then select the engine. That is what I hated about the E-Z. Zephyr is the same way. That is why I went with the SEB, it has the then DT 400 where you can control 2 engines with two different knobs.

Unless you are looking for more power, I would stick with the E-Z and get a PR 3 for the CV's.

Hum Ulrich. The last page did page did not go Goofy till you posted your latest picture! Laugh

Rob After carefully rereading your post about the receiver, I think it is broken! Big Smile OK, far as the video feeds, they are passive. They will work with either the receiver on or off like a VCR right? One question you did not answer was "does the receiver power up, lights come on rather it be LED or the power button"? While I am far from being a expert I have never seen a good quality pieces of stereo (never care about the cheap stuff I had as a kid) equipment that did not have a fuse. You may have to pull the cover off to find it but I bet there is one in it. Let me know.

Todd Gee thanks for telling us all how great your Truck A/C works! Laugh Yep it was one hot ride home tonight with the Town Car blower motor being down. Grumpy

Tom OK your engines are heaver than mine. Neither my PCM Big Boy or Y6b have traction tires and they still pull great. I never did understand why there Blue Line and Paragon II came with traction tires, they used the same tooling as the PCM versions. I guess they could have been made from plastic where the PCM's are die cast. I was told by a tech at BLI both where made the same?

Well it took 1.5 hours but the garage is finally cooling down some.

      Se you all later!

                           Ken

Evening All, W**k has been extremely busy. All I can say is you can't fix stupid. I'm off the rest of the week so I am happy. Tomorrow I plan on bulding the tunnel frame lattice and lay some more ground cover. Thursday I will go down to the LHS and buy some plaster cloth and asphalt topping. I drew out my roads today. Joe- I really like the Zephyr xtra. Easy to hookup and easy to run. My problem was that I had the same loco number in the Zephyr and my wireless throttle and they were fighting each other. I think it is worth the money. Jeff- I like the firehouse. Sometimes at the club when I am there by myself I turn off the overheads and run in night time conditions. I really like doing that. Everybody have a good night.

  1. Fire extuingshers are now required in kitchens

And please don't put the extinguisher in a cabinet next to or over the stove. Don't mount it on a wall near the stove. You don't want to be reaching through flames for it. Have it in a cabinet or mounting bracket BEHIND YOU (opposite side of the room is preferable) so you turn around and get it and be away from the fire.If you can't put the fire out within a minute GET OUT and call 911 if you haven't already. Call even if you put the fire out. There may be something you missed. The fire fighters will find it if it's there. That's what they do. That's what they're trained for. It's far better to have them knock a little hole in your wall than have a hidden smoldering fire burn your house down a day or two later. You can put trust in my advice. I've been a fire dept Safety Officer for over 12 years and I taught home fire safety to people for over 7 years.

Jeff I am voting you person of the year !Big Smile How did you know that ? ! THANK YOU !

I've also used IE9 and found it unsatisfactory for my needs so I went back to using Firefox (Version 5.0.1 now) but I did some digging around and found a thread in this forum in which it was mentioned. I tried it on my IE9 and it worked then I rolled it back to IE8 which I sometimes use. When I come across someone having the particular problem you were having (and it's fairly easy to spot once you know what you're looking for) I drop that little hint about the compatibility icon.

Evening all.

Didn't do too much today. Suprisingly, I got called into w**k on my day off. What a shocker. The good news is that it was only for two hours and I made $25. After hourly wage, it will be about $35. Not bad for only two hours of "w**k" (driving around and making four deliveries).

Ulrich, glad that you and Petra are able to agree on your layout plans! THAT's always a plus!

Ken, don't worry about it. I'm not suprised that I've been forgotten, considering THAT I've been absent for a semi-extended period of time.

Curt, how do you like your Zephyr? I have an E-Z Command and wanted something a little better. I've always heard good things about the Zephyr, so I finally bit the bullet and ordered one on Sunday. Hopefully I'll have it by the end of the week. I can't do anything for the time being, since the layout is up north and I'm not, but I'll be sure to play with it next time I go up home.

I'll be around for a while if anyone wants to chat.

Jeff I am voting you person of the year !Big Smile How did you know that ? ! THANK YOU !

Well HELLO EVERYONE again!

Todd - thanks

Cuda - good luck with making commision, hey yuse wanna borrow a tire iron for dat fellow Whistling

Bill !- Cool down with THAT picture !? My heart rate jumped about ninety percent!

Ulrich - looking good on the layout design.

Been in code update class today Angry I tell you some of the things coming down the pike for new building is absolutely nuts! For all of you thinking of finishing a basment or room you can think the morons in government for adding about two grand in cost to THAT PROJECT. Here are some items that will be costing you more to finish THAT room!

  1. All outlets in a bedroom NOW have to be arc fault circuits including the stupid smoke detector
  2. Carbon monoxide detectors are now required outside each room if you have a fireplace, gas furnace, pellet stove ...
  3. If you have a fireplace it is now required that they have doors that seal
  4. Duct work now must be R-8 vs R-6
  5. Ext walls now have to be R-19 vs R-13
  6. Ceilings / attic now have to be - I think they said R-40 or R-48 ?
  7. Doors to a storage area now has to have weather stripping, the door has to have an R-38 rating
  8. Unfinished attic with a five to seven foot ceiling and 30 sqaure feet or more has to have a smoke detector , even if it is NOT finished !
  9. Fire extuingshers are now required in kitchens
  10. Pull down attic stairs - have to have a - get this - "coffin lid" ! it is a contraption that pulls over the hole and provide a R factor to cut down on energy loss over the pull down stairs
  11. Security/alarms now have to be MONITERED FOR EVER
  12. Folks this is just the start we were handed three booklets with front and back changes! -the foxes are loose in the hen house and the foxes told us today the next code update will be worse- so bend over here COMES THE CHANGE some voted for. They sure LOVE to spend YOUR money!

TOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!! Lunch. A BLT on wheat please and a glass of sweet tea. Um…..hold the Tabasco.

Oops - SignSorry,Embarrassed That’ll teach me to rely on memory when I’m in a hurry… I meant YGW glad to hear the good news about the wife.

I have returned from the sweatbox and, are ya'll sittin down? Turned the AC in the truck on. Haven’t done that since oh maybe once or twice last year. Thing was assembled with the truck in 1994, never had an ounce or refridgerant put in and still blows 40 degree air on a 95 degree ambient temp and high humidity day. Good thing the humidity isn’t any lower it’d freeze me out or explode.Laugh

Ray- Sounds like we feel the same about the “unavailable” callers. In fact, most everyone I want or need to talk to calls my cell phone due to the fact I am so haphazardly in the house that it’s a good bet whoever is calling that number is of no interest to me anyway so it usually gets ignored by me. Now Brenda, that’s another story.

By the way, if anyone does call me be forewarned. I say hello once. If I get no response, I hang up. Generally a pause is the sign of a computer dialed number and they are owned by the spawn of Satan.

Garry- What I primarily use FB for is an address book of sorts I guess. Sometimes it is nice to see the pictures of what my classmates look like now and what they are doing. Sometimes not (snicker). But aside from a couple of my friends, they generally don’t say much, just post some pictures ever once in a while. Even the ones that used to, now the new has worn off, don’t say much either. I still maintain my account but I don’t get on it much at all. It could close down and I may not know it for a week or two sometimes.Laugh

Thinking cool huh Jeffrey. This time of year it’s called hazy.Laugh

Best find something to do before I have to head to the heat in a few hours. Yup gotta work in a kitchen with no AC and two big Pizza ovens and a lit stove. Enjoy the floor show I won’t be able to make it again

Afternoon All,

Watching a episode of Eureka and I go into work at 1600. Hot and humid all ready today but that's how it is going to be until OCT sometime. Digitrax sent me a sequence (change switch 36 & 39) to program into my Zephyr and SUCCESS. I ran 3 different locos with a unplugged throttle with no issues. I am a happy boyBig Smile.

I laid down a small strip of blended turf earlier. It really looked bad initially but as it dries it is looking much better. I was going to put up the backdrop on Thursday but I realized today that I really need to do the Tunnel and incline before I do that.

Lee- Is your house OK?

Ulrich- I look forward to seeing your new module.

Galaxy- Hope your neck feels better.

Ken- Glad your sales are up but watch your back.

Todd- Sorry it wasn't my wife.

 Everybody have a good day.

Thanks Tom!

I am getting anxious to get the project completed and see how it scores for a Merit Award.

BTW, the 10 pounds has been over a 3 month period.....  I have been watching every bite of food THAT goes in my face.
I would like to lose 20 more and get at least back to where I was when My wife died. I am now about 262lbs.

Oh, and I enjoyed the video you posted the other day.  Nice!

Morning all from SunnyCal--we're heating up a little, but NOWHERE near what you poor guys in the Midwest are going through.  Our high was 85 yesterday, mid-nineties expected by this weekend, which will finally put us back into 'normal' July weather.   I don't know whether it helps you guys in the Midwest or not, but three years ago, yesterday was a record-breaking 115 here in the Valley.  Luckily, we haven't gotten anywhere near that the past several years.

Swear to God, if I could send our weather your way, I would!   Unfortunately for you guys, we've got the Sierra Nevada blocking any eastward flow, and that's one FORMIDABLE barrier.

Well, I found out that Murphy's Law is still in effect on the Yuba River Sub.  Had one of my Sinohara turnouts go ka-blooey on me last night, and wouldn't you know, it's in a spot that is--ahem!--'difficult' to get to.  Unfortunately, it also turned my reverse loop under the Buttes dead as a doornail.  So, it's replacement time on the old layout--AGAIN!   Actually, I hardly ever used the turnout anyway, so I think I'll just tear out the crossover completely, replace the track and do some re-wiring to get my reverse loop working again.  Fun and games.

Garry:  If I HAD a Hudson, I'd gladly trade you, LOL!  I could use another Pacific--they're rare as hen's teeth these days, even in used brass.

Ken: The Yellowstones are about 4-1/2 pounds apiece.  These puppies were made back in the days when brass manufacturers stuffed every available nook and cranny full of lead from boiler-face to firebox, and that's one LONG boiler in those Akanes.  And the weight is centered right where it's supposed to be--directly over the drivers.  The last thing I'd ever need on those monsters would be either a traction tire or Bullfrog Snot, LOL!  The only heavier loco I have is a Westside brass 4-6-6-4 (the Baldwin L-105 monsters made for the Rio Grande, not those wimpy little Alco UP thingies Stick out tongue) that comes in at about 5-1/2 pounds.  I refer to these lokies as my "Instant Hernia's" because you have to be VERY careful about how you lift them off the tracks, LOL!

Ray:  Ten pounds, huh?  YAY!   But be careful and don't lose too much too fast, buddy.  When I dropped all of mine very suddenly and very fast, it took me almost a month to get any kind of strength back.  I walked like a drunk without any of the fun of getting that way.  Stay healthy, buddy, we NEED you!  BTW, as excellent as that engine house of yours is, it looks really FANTASTIC with the lokie parked inside.  BowBow  That's just beautiful work!

Well, time to go out and relay some track and probably do some rewiring.  Who says all that Tom does is sit there and watch his Yellowstones go by, LOL?

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom

We had several bands of thunderstorms here yesterday.  Ended up getting a little over 1/4" of rain from them.

Ulrich, I really like the little layout you are creating!  Look forward to seeing your progress.

Todd and Garry (and others), thanks for the comments on the Engine House.  I do hope to get a Merit Award on it.

Today I need to take my sister's lawn mower back to her.....  THAT should wipe out any spare time for the day!

Have a good (and safe) day!

Good morning.

Todd .. I really do not like the social media stuff much. I tried the Facebook thing a little, but it's not for me.

Thanks everybody for commenting on the photo. I'm putting together a photo album of the layout on Snapfish. I still have a lot more to build on the layout.

Ray.. Your enginehouse project should be worthy of winning an NMRA contest.

Good Morning!! Coffee to go please Stopped in at Social Media first, then got sidetracked (notice railroad term?) now here I am in quickly before gone again. Thrilled you are I know.

Ray! Where’d you find the picture of the engine house? Looks just like your model!

Curt- Glad for the good news about the wife!

Garry- Nice picture!

Lee- You didn’t say so I’m assuming you aren’t swabbing the deck in your basement.

Ulrich- Not sure it’s more than the way someone posted something on this page. That used to happen on the old software too. Other pages are fine.

IndifferentMan! I have GOT to get in here in the evenings……………

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Ken - here in Germany, we regard Mel´s action as a criminal act, making him subject to pay damages as well as facing a jail sentence.

Morning Folks, and Happy Friday, well it is Friday for me!

Joe Sorry I forgot your name. Reason I brought up the Collage train club, I have read about a few schools that have them.

Ulrich Not sure Mel is done with his dirty deeds just yet. Sunday I had a customer that had bought from and had bought from Mel in the past. She called Monday night late and wanted to cancel her order. Said her husband was mad because she bought a full, and wanted a queen.(she came in looking for a Twin or Full?) Told her not a problem, I had it in queen. Then she said, she did not want that mattress as all!

Hum, that funny, she spent 5 minutes thanking me for saving her $700.00 and she loved it Sunday? I will bet she talked with Mel and he told her it must be a used mattress at that prices. We will see what unfolds today.

Glad you now have Petra endorsement on the shelf layout. I was able to finally get the picture open you gave the link to, looks good.

Time to run some trains before I go to work! Big Smile Have the Y6b and the M1a out on the A main line, two stem engines do make some racket. Laugh

  See you all later.

It´s past lunchtime, but too early for tea.

I´ll have a banana split and a mug of coffee, Janie dear, if you please ...

My trip to our "home depot" was a successful one - I got all the plywood I need for the next module, plus a few extra pieces for free! They are now duly measured and marked - ready for the sawing job on Saturday:

Bad news is that the bridge I need is out of stock at my regular supplier´s and not expected to be available  before September. I had to order at a different source and now have to pay in shipping what I saved at the home depot Thumbs Down

My plan for the shelf layout is nearing finishing stage - a small but rewarding layout to build.

Here we go!

That´s all for the moment!

Not sure what is going on but I haven't been able to post to the fourm for the past couple days.  I hope this works...

We got 4" of rain in two hours last night.  Several houses are flooded and some streets are closed.

Good Morning,

Good morning, not sure why but I haven’t been able to post to the forum for a couple of days.  Last night we received 4” of rain in 2 hours.  Several roads are closed due to high water and several homes are flooded or without power.
