Good Morning!! Barely.

Already been to town this morning and back, did a few chores and now, here I am.

Woke up thirsty and for some odd reason absolutely craving Pineapple juice of all thingsTongue Tied. Well. Only have 5 rolls of toilet paper so I might as well head to the Walmart for a few groceries. Word to the wise. NEVER go to the store thirsty. Same effect as hungry. Indifferent

Sue- Glad to see you back. Anxious to see some pictures of the progress you’ve made.

Just got a message from DerJohn. He’s doing well and is having a bit of a time with double vision. Sounds like he’s peeking in the windows, just not saying much. Shoot I have enough trouble typing with single vision.

Will try Jim now, with Der’s assistance.

Bout bean time and I think I will head to the basement in case it storms. Whistling Wink

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this rainy Thursday other then while I was out and about this morning I saw a NS Westbound..I have notice a pattern lately which will help me to railfan..It seems every other day is busy so,with that thought I am going to test that theory come warmer weather...Speaking of railfanning..In January I was told that Unstoppable movie locomotives went through here but, considered the source( a waitress at the local mom and pop beanery) and shrugged it off.

Yesterday I recieved this link to the video taken in January.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMPA7hwerGE...feature=related

Cooke Road is in Columbus and on the Sandusky line.I guess that's what I get being a fair weather railfan..

Update on Slate Creek..I place the track on the board yesterday and studied it and believe its a go as designed

I shall have a cup and look over the forum.

Have a good'un!

Good morning. It's 50° and sunny. The high will be 64° and again it will be sunny.

Went down to my parents place this morning and worked on the old Peerless tractor some more. Got the engine to turn over a whole three revolutions, so there's no bind there. The star suspect is still the battery. I cleaned the terminals and clamps but that made no difference. The charger is part of my problem at present. It's one of those 'smart' chargers that won't put out current unless it senses a battery. The charger is indicating that the battery is shorted out and is putting out sporadic power charges. The only way to really confirm that is to remove the battery and put in a good one and for that I'm going to need a good deal of help. Hauling batteries around is one of those things I can't do without causing harm to myself as I can't balance the weight. In simple terms, if I try to pick it up I'm going down flat on my face. So it's something that will have to wait.

Morning, soon to be noon and after.

My back is really sore from the injections. I managed to unload half the dishwasher before it gave it. I will have to do the other half later. Then load half of it back up, then the other half later.

TG for the "heat "n eat" bagged meals. That's what we will have for dinner tonight, as they don't take long on your feet to heat tehm to eat them and they aren't to bad either.

DOn't have much to say, I guess. Just recovering form the pain.

MIL and FIL seem to be holding their own at home, or at least with Hospice help they are leaving us alone, though the MIL is getting to be a pain demanding things of MOH L and R.

WEll, see ya all later.

have a great day, or what's left of it.

I shall be resting on the couch in front of the boob tube with nothing on to really watch! ANd the cable bill went up AGAIN. Basic, extended cable and internet now costs $110.00 a month instead of $103.57. We may have to seriously cut out the extended cable to save teh $65. plus taxes and fees on it for awhile. Really.

Mornin'!  A very dreary, gloomy, dark, drizzly, damp morning THAT is....

Zoe I'll have a breakfast bagel w/ cheese and a cup of dark roast coffee to start the day.

We got about a half inch of drizzle last night.  next day and a half will be more of the same only harder with probably moisture in the train room.  I'll need to get down there soon to check and see what is happening.

Got an email late last night that some items I ordered a couple of weeks ago from a small (one person) company are now on their way to me.  YES!  I am looking for any information any of might have on the construction of roof beams, rafters, trusses, and their spacing way back around 1900....  Can't seem to find a thing about it anywhere.

Prayers to those in need!

 Morning Folks

Flo, just a diet dew please.

Have a little running today, and get some paper work done. Other than that nothing really planed.

Train Front Looks like I am going to have to open up the PCM Y6 b, it is stalling on every turnout it goes across. I am guessing a solder joint has failed and one of the engine (2-8-8-2) is not picking up power.

I use to love working on the Engines, not I hate to mess with them. I have 8 diesels down and have new motors and decoders for them and just don't feel like messing with them. Whistling Well, maybe today I dig out a couple of easy fixes.

         See you all later today.

Good morning, Chloe.  I would like coffee and a cinnamon roll, please.

How is the gang doing?  I have been doing too much modeling which means that I am not on the computer.  We are  hosting our local MR group on the 18th.  Some of the guys have managed to get me hooked on operations.  We have added a 2' x12 foot staging area.

Good Morning All,

I'll have a regular coffee in a New Haven travel mug please. Just stopping by between trips. Back to Sebring next Tues for the 12 hour race then back here for a week and off to Savannah then Pocono. Guess theseason is starting.

Rob - I like the Malibu cars Jeff referenced. Wally Mart has them often (though not the one near me) and they look reasonable. Most of the other stuff I get is Mini Metals and Busch through Walthers (especially when on sale). I have a couple of Jordan kits like the ones Ray uses that I haven't built yet but they look good also. If you want to have your mind blown, look at some of the 1/87th modelers group stuff. 4 foot cranes down to Indy cars complete with correct livery and oil hoses, etc,

Jeff,Ulrich and Galaxy - sorry to hear about the problems your parents (and in laws) are having. I can relate as my 90 year old Mom is getting more and more fragile and my MIL is in long term care unaware most of the time who her daughter or sons are. At least she's happy. My aunt who took me in at the end of high school ended up with Alzheimers and became very fiesty without warning. It gets tough because the people you knew and loved just aren't there any more.

Lee - glad the gf's gall bladder op went well. Prayers for a speedy and complete recovery. Also prayers for those in need of healing. I'll try to stop in later, but for now the shop beckons.   CUL, J.R.

Good Morning..

mmmm...I'm wondering where Inch went to as well and JimRCG&O(?) as well...

We are having a good morning dribblefest outside with the current temperature as 36F...going to a high of 47F later today..in the drizzle and rain..make sure you stay away from any open bodies of water....

Well(kind of wet)....I'm having to rethink...yeah, i know, again...the Exceda Wye yard....seems that if I want to make a passenger train yard it needs be in another part of that area...yet there is not enough space for it.    ....Sigh

Flo, I'll have a coffee and a breakfast bagel please..I'll be at the window booth contemplating my plans here...Whistling

Good Morning Gang,

no news about my mother, which I suppose is good news. There is no improvement, but she seems to be stable for the moment.

Rob - OO vehicles, as TSF suggested, are quite large - they are more than 10% oversize, which is quite noticeable. Herpa vehicles are fairly well detailed, but need to be enhanced with small things, like number plates. The lack of detail of vehicles is not that much apparent when viewed on your layout, but it sure shows up in photographs.

Ray - Jim goes by the forum name of JimRCGMO - I have not heard from him for a while now. I hope he is doing OK.

Lotsa MIA´s again...

Have a good day!

What about the inexpensive Herpa and EKO vehicles? Either of those look decent? (Thanks)

Our well pump died this evening. Already miss indoor plumbing. Will try finding a new solenoid in the morning. Haven't removed the old one to look at it, but most likely that is the cause. Probably a surge during the storm.

Night all.

Evenin' Folks!

I'll just have a cup of decaf Flo.  I'll go sit in the back booth by the stove and get warm for a bit.

Todd, Der goes by der5997 IIRC.  Can't remember Jim's off the top of my head.  Seems that we have a bunch of old regulars that don't come in any more (like Tom).

I have reached an impasse with the Engine House.  I can't do job A until I get Job B done, and I can't get job B done until job C is complete which has to be done after Job A.....  I printed up some decals for the new Passenger cars...  They will be a Name Train called the ....  Well, I'm not going to tell you just yet, but the only way I could get white print is to print them on white paper with  color background.  I tried it spent quite a bit of time cutting them to fit on the car side.  Wet one of the decals, slid it off where it needed to be and thought it looked like.....  well I can't say here at the forum.  Anyway I scraped it off before it set and have an email into Rail Graphics to see what they can do for me.  Rather pay a bit more and have something that looks right than do a sloppy job of it.  I also just ordered TurboCad for Mac.  I will be making sveral Freelance buildings for the structure Certificate (NMRA) and I can get extra points for making my own drawings,  I also will use it to do some designing of the roof supports on the engine house.  I should be able to print it in HO exactly as it needs to be and use the print to cut the parts....  We shall see.

Prayers for all in need (and there appears to be quite a few!)

Though I know him when I see him, I can't think of his forum name. Nor Der's either. Top it off, since the computer crashed, I lost all my addresses so I can't find him that way either. Guess we'll just have to wait and hope all is well with them.

OH JOY! OH RAPTURE! I have spent the last few hours since I left here, or rather since I walked away from my computer without leaving the diner, figure THAT one out, in th etrain room up to my ear hairs in choo choo train projects. (Actually, the older I get, it’s not as deep as it used to be Laugh ). ANYway, I worked on the bridge supports and laid the last section of track to complete the loop. Should work even though I haven’t run the buss wire the entire length yet. Hopefully I’ll see tomorrow.

Jeff- I would concur with your diagnosis of the Peerless. I would however try to jump it with another battery before stating as fact, but even if it isn’t, I’m sure your Father wouldn’t be throwing money away on a new battery. More than likely you are correct.

Rob- I agree with Jeff on the vehicles. The Bachmanns and the other cheapy ones are fine for many uses however. Back ground away from the viewer, junkyards, ones difficult to see and the like.

TSF- Well, the issue of age as you put it is partly true. If you have a relatively popular tractor, like your IH, then yes you can still get most parts because it is heavily collected and is full size. Unfortunately Jeff is dealing with lawn and garden stuff. The Government has decided that all the old stuff is too pollutant and the parts are just not available because they want you to just plain dump the things in favor of new more Earth friendly stuff. Plus his tractor is really not old enough to be a collectors item. I have a 1977 IH Cub Cadet, runs great and I tell you parts for the old cast iron Kohler are getting harder and harder to find. Several places claim they have the parts until you ask to get one. I had to replace my 2 cycle Lawn Boy push mower that was also about a ’90 or ’91 a couple years ago for the lack of an upper muffler housing of all things.

Lee- Glad to hear Dorothy’s doing well. Good news is nice to hear.

Time for a bowl of chili, a tortilla or two and a sandwich of some sort and maybe a few chips. Then, maybe some ice cream and a Ding Dong or a Ho Ho. Just depends

Maybe if I’m lucky, tomorrow I’ll work a little on the inside of the tunnel before I cover the rest of it with plaster.

I think I’ll e-mail Jim. See if he’s doing OK. Been awhile since he’s been in. Anybody heard from Inch?

Evening gang!!...Just a quick piece of pumpkin pie...whip cream...and a cold glass of whole milk please. Getting ready for another round of rain/freezing rain/sleet/snow...and probably kittens for all I know. As an avid self proclaimed lover of all things winter....I think I am ready for this to end. I actually craved mowing my lawn the other day when another 12 inches dumped on us and the cable for the auger snapped on the snow blower just as I started. My wife gave me the "you can"t fix it"?..."you can build a tree out of nothing and spend 5 hours building one building wall and you can't fix a cable"??...She doesn't seem to realize that I don't keep stock of spare snow blower parts. Anyways..it's fixed....and for all my hard work...I rewarded myself a couple new pacemaker cars to add to my growing fleet.....Though for the day...."If life is a radio...turn it up to 10"......have a good night....Tim  Big Smile

Good luck Jeff. Projects like that are always fun aren't they?

But finding parts for a 17-18 year old tractor isn't that hard. Internet is always a good find. I can still find parts for my 1952 Farmall H at a Case IH dealer.

This afternoon my father asked me to look at the Peerless tractor to see what is needed to have it running this year. As you may or may not know we got it back in 92 or 93 so it's around eighteen years old now. The engine (two cylinder Briggs and Stratton) turns OK when turned by hand, same for the drive, the belts are all good, the wiring is all sound. Yet I couldn't get it to crank over even once, even with a 55A boost on the battery. I couldn't do it today because I was hurting too much (still feel like I fell off a roof now) but if I was to disconnect that old battery I could start that old tractor on the 55A boost alone (Heck, I could start my van on that!). Today even with the boost on it I couldn't get the battery charge up over seven volts and all I would get from the starter was a grunt. With no boost there was nothing but a click. Nobody was at home. That tells me the battery is dead. Indeed it's shorted out and is absorbing the bulk of the boost charge. Perhaps tomorrow I'll be able to disconnect the battery and see if the old beast will start on the boost charge alone. I'm betting it will. At this time my report to my father is: Parts needed: One Battery!

Quick question: Are those Bachmann (HO) auto sets of the hollow variety? Need some cars to fill the wife's Drive In Theater lot. Just wondering if these are OK or el-cheapo looking?

Quick answer: The HO Scale Bachmann autos have interiors but are still fairly cheesy looking. I'd spend the extra $$ and get the better looking vehicles of the 1/87 Malibu or fresh cherries lines if you can find them. I have vehicles from both sets and the look good.

Hey folks.

Rob- For the mini problem, try hornby. . They make OO scale but I use them with HO stuff and it doesn't look that off. Better detailing too. I also read somewhere that a guy put his own insides in the hollow autos. May be better for you because you can add some details that aren't commercially available.Smile, Wink & Grin

Coffee in a SOGGY SOUTHERN mug, please.

We had around 3" of rain, give or take a little. Creeks are full, but I don't see it flooding.

Quick question: Are those Bachmann (HO) auto sets of the hollow variety? Need some cars to fill the wife's Drive In Theater lot. Just wondering if these are OK or el-cheapo looking?

Picked up some grounding blocks (or whatever they're called) , so I can keep hooking up lights on the wife's layout. Kinda anxious to see what it all looks like all lit.

Off to do evening critter rounds.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Went to the Center for PAin Relief {CPR} for more monthly cortisone injections. They couldn't do them for awhile as I was healing from both tumor surgeries. Next month he wants to try something called Radio Frequency nerve stimulation to deaden the nerves I guess. Supposed to last about 6 months. That would be nice, but I am skeptical, as nothing they have done yet has helped really. The best thing was the surgery for the tumors that helped a little.

Had to send MOH shopping alone as I can't stand too long after teh injections. The cure is sometimes worse than the pain.

I had a script to pick up afterwards and they didn't have it ready yet, so I said "take me home then go shopping {groceries} and get teh script on the way home". I hate to send alone, but the shots almost cropple me for a week after they give tehm to me. Then I feel better from them, but not necessarily form the pain.

Hope CUDA KEN is getting the SSI thing worked out.

Hope ROBBY P. finds a job fast and is adjusting to single life O.K. in NC. I know he was disappointed in PA anyway.

Hope ULRICH and Jeffrey's Mothers are doing the best they can. So is my MIL for now. SHe has Hospice care at home now for 6 months. Ed of life is so cruel sometimes. I hope I go quickly and quietly when my time comes.

I saw somewhere we had at least one new member, don't remember who, but Welcome to the diner!!! We come here to lament, consol, vent, comisserate, uplift, advise, get advised, etc here freely and usually without any trouble. Occasionally we have a food fight break out but it is harmless. ANd the moderators leave us alone unless someone gets out of hand {profanity or unclean jokes or phrases etc.} then they get kicked out.

Now...who wants pie...as I need to stop sitting and lay down for awhile...

Coffee & a slice of Chocolate Cake, please.

Under a Flash Flood Warning here. Out the window, it does lool like our creeks are at capacity. Heavy rains are past us now.

Been looking at HO scale model vehicles. I would really like to find a 1958-ish style mini, not the modern versions. Wonder if anyone makes such a thing?

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob
