Evenin' folks!
Flo, I'll have the fish and chips with the salad bar for supper tonight. Need a cup of decaf to go along with that I guess.
Garry, congratulations on coming over to the bright side of computing. Hope you enjoy the iMac and that it serves you well for many, many years!
Yep it seems to be time soon to move again. How about we return up toward the North and help to bring some needed sunshine and warm weather up with it???
I have been spending much of the day doing some decalling. I won't be able to show you what it is or what I am doing until after the Spring NMRA Meet in Hammondsport next week (Saturday the 9th.)
Later!

Hope you like the new place, which can be found here
Evening Flo, you are packing up all ready for the move? Can I still get a please, I will grab some White Castles on the way home.
Galaxy I far from broke the bank on the few coins I bought. The 3 Kennedy's that are 40% sliver where $17.00 and the 2 Sliver War Time nickels cost me $7.50. So I spent $24.50 on something I enjoy and will all wise be worth something. This will be my 4th collection, 1st one I sold to dad so I could buy the 68 Road Runner, 2nd and 3rd where sold to save our butts years ago.
While at one time I was going after the higher end stuff like 1912-D Mercury Dimes (sold mine for $1500.00 15 years ago) I plan on spending a Avg of say $30.00 a coin max. Most will be around $10 to $15 range. Few will be in the $60.00 to $80.00 range. Cheaper than a visit to my LHS when I was in the train buying mode.
Far as full collections (beginning date to ending dates) they will be Nickels and Pennies. There prices have been pretty fixed for the last 25 years.
Far as Bank Of Stupid they can go F@#$ them self's.
Speaking of Bank Of Stupid went to make the $1500.00 payment and the teller tried her darns t to talk me into tacking my check account to them! Boy she picked the wrong person. After a few minutes I start telling her the F%# up mess there bank got me in and what kind of F&^% idiots they have staffing the phones.
While I was not loud or nasty, another lady stepped up and said I can help you, would you step into my offices? I did, told her the story and all she could do is say "yes I understand why you are frustrated and from what I heard there soft ware is hard for them to understand". Well that was her help? Wasted another 15 minutes of my life for Bank Of Stupid.
Only good thing about the visit to BOS? Got to take a leak.

The wisdom of The King of Toddland abounds... Apparently, the good folks at the LHS in Cedar cRapids were channeling TODD this afternoon. The Wife took the airbrush jar with her in her quest to replace my X-acto blades which she'd used up. Here's an update I just got from her:
"Box Car Hobbies got the clog initially cleared out of your paint gun thingy with a wire and let me watch them do it, but you'll still need to soak it..."
I would've sworn on a stack of Bibles THAT I'd gotten it cleared out. Must've been in the angled metal "spout" between the brush and the plastic siphon tube.
I wonder if it wasn't a progressive (I hate THAT word) clog...like the blood clot THAT gradually builds up until it suddenly knocks a guy over deader than a door-nail...
Sounds like I'll be back in business shortly, letting the paint fly once again!

I am using the new IMAC it is truly amazing. Meanwhile, we got the old Dell working without spending any money, and it will be an extra computer we'll keep for now.
On the layout, I have worked on more scenery. Also, I'm chasing gremlins out of some of the wiring.

cudaken Coin Collecting Well made the jump yesterday and went to a coin store for the first time in 12 years. Picked up a set of Kennedy Half Dollars folders, 3 40% sliver Kennedy's and 2 WWII Sliver Nickels. (During WWII nickels where made using sliver and pennies where made of steel) Going to do what is call Type Collecting, 1 coin from every style made.

Gee, Ken, not to nit pic, but I to pic a nit, If I had trouble with a mega bank on my back that I owed money to to try and keep my house, I would be pouring my hard earned cash into that and not into coin collecting, silver halvsies, nickels or not. You do realize now is not the time to buy such things when the going rate is so high? you buy when silver/gold when it is DOWN in value, not at a peak.

***Jeffrey, nice pic!
***Ulrich, hope you can find that one online source for everything you need.
Ordered a cheap Heljan Arch Bridge w/Piers for the (N) canyon. Didn't like the bridge I already had for it and the Heljan should fill the space a little bit better. My first choice was a Faller bridge which would have looked very cool, but that one was just way to pricey. The Heljan should eb an OK compromise.
Cheers! Rob
Ulrich,
I'm surprised since woodlands scenics carry all that and would have expected someone on your side of the pond to stock at least one companies whole line. Guess wehave it better here with Walthers or Trainworld for mail order plus Hobbytown and the sorta LHS also stocking that stuff. Hope you can find what you need one source wise. I have most of my suppliers trained by now not to ship backorders as well without calling first. Made one refund the shipping cost on an item that was just a couple of bucks and S&H boosted it up over $30.00. Just one of lifes fustrations. J.R.
Me again,
to say I am miffed is the understatement of the day. I spent a couple of hours searching the web where to buy a bag of clump foliage, a bag of fine turf, a bag of coarse turf, a pair of concrete tunnel portals and a concrete retaining wall. There is no single source for that order available - I´d need to order at three different places, which would add $ 40 to shipping and handling, or just doubling the price of it! $ 80 for that stuff - no way: My search for any alternatives also ended with no result.

Ray - I guess I am ready to turn into a grandpa., but it´ll have to wait for a while, if ever...
Janie - I´ll need a Whisky Mack to calm me down!

Mornin' everyone!
Zoe. I'll have a breakfast bagel and a cup of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.
Looks like areas to the East of where I am are bracing for one last big wither Nor'easter today and tomorrow... Barry, you and I should be lucky with little of it crossing our paths......... Currently 36°F with a high in the low 40's predicted today. Dark dreary day outside with liquid sunshine falling from the sky. Good day to decal a car I think, and maybe do some more with a bunch of details I just got in for the engine house.
Last night I changed out a pair of trucks on an old boxcar (May be an Athearn or possibly Roundhouse) that was derailing often. Found one problem was the little "airhose" on the couplers at both ends were too low, tried to bend them but they didn't want to bend, so I just cut them off (I don't use magnets for uncoupling anyway). There may have been a small burr under the trucks where I cut off the Athearn type truck pin for the Kadee trucks way back when. Shaved a bit with a #11 exacto and then used some fine sandpaper on it. Appears to be better and now is only derailing in an out of guage spot in the new hand laid section at the quarry. Definitely have some track work to do. It's been about 5 months since I really ran any trains.... THAT may be the problem!
Ulrich, Thanks! Steal no, Enjoy yes! If you lived over here near me, I'm sure you could be "adopted" as a grandpa.... She is a cutie and usually a very well behaved little girl. I don't know whether to be happy or upset about her behavior when they had to leave yesterday. I do like that she loves to come to "Papa's" house and play with the trains.
Have a good day, and those in the way of the Nor'easter coming up the coast, stay safe!
Good morning. It's 45° and mostly cloudy. The high will be 70° and partly sunny. You mean there's a difference between the two?I didn't get much done yesterday so today I still have two billboards to put up then there's the adding of foliage and rocks around the bottom of the south engine house.

Morning Folks!
Flo, I would like a BLT with cream cheese and a Diet Dew.
Curt I guess I just get confused with some of the engine destinations. I would have all most sower the J-1 was a Hudson.
Hum. just did a quick search for J-1. It did pull up the Santa Fee type PRR and a J-1 Hudson YNC
Guess the Rail Roads called them what they wanted.
Daytona Getting it back today! Found a good deal on the shifter cable, $32.00 and Bob charged me $150.00 for the tow, install and oil change.
See you all later.
Good Afternoon Folks,
Zoe, make that a mug of strong coffee and a slice of that apple pie, topped with vanilla ice cream, please.
It´s a rainy day here in northern Germany. I am up to nothing. Hopefully I will get my order of track delivered next week, so I can start on laying track on the first couple of modules. At the moment, there are just sitting on my desk, collecting dust - much to Petra´s dismay. Right now I am looking for a source to buy Woodland Scenics tunnel portals, which I need for my tunnel module. Have not found any, yet.
Ray - mind if I steal your grand daughter? She is soooo cute! You are one lucky man!
Blessings to all of you!
Morning All,
Flo I would love a plain toasted bagel with cream cheese and a cup of coffee. Please keep the coffee coming.
We are having bands of severe thunderstorms passing thru all day today coming off the gulf. High today is supposed to be 83. I am at w**k so it is going to be a wet day. They say the worst of it will be 1000-1500. Tomorrow the rain chances are about 30% so hopefully it will be dry.
Not much happening on the RR front. All the smaller rocks are dry but the rock face I made is still damp. I have it on a wire rack to help it dry. I watched a WS video the other day about painting rocks so I will probably give it a try next week. I figure if I don't like the results I can make more.
Have a great day.

Good Morning All,
39 and cloudy with a chance of rain or snow depending on the temp at the moment. Lee you may keep your snow please - we have enough leftover here. I'll have a regular and a waffle piled with fruit and whipped cream please.
Started putting up the light fixtures last night for the second half of the ceiling. Trying to keep the lights over the inner and outer edges of the benchwork to keep the shadows on the backround thing to a minimum. So far so good. Tempting though it is, I'm determined to complete the ceiling/lighting before starting anything else this time as it was such a pain adding that stuff after the layout was up last time. The cheapo HD lights with diffuser panel look good and seem to spread the light adequately.
Oh well, (quite deep today) started this a while ago and keep getting interupted so into the shop I go. Catch y'all later, J.R.
Good Morning!! Coffee please. Thanks Partly sunny, with a high near 51 Chris- Sounds like the pickup tube is clogged. But you said you’ve checked and cleaned, so….check it again. HA! No seriously, you got me. Other than well, check it again I suppose. As for the jars, I’ve never checked for others. Someone told me no other jar would fit so I never tried. Trusting person ain‘t I? Can’t remember who, Robby I think. Wasn’t he the one who introduced us to the Harbor Freight Air Brush (HFAB. Pronounced aych-fab)? Brenda took a phone call at home on lunch yesterdee from a Remax agent who was “just calling around the Williamsville area to see if anyone knew of any houses for sale” Said they had a family interested. Brenda said how much are they willing to spend? The guy says about 250, Brenda says “Weeeeellllll, have I got a deal for you! Just happen to have a perfect family home just like what you need and it‘s less than that.” Gave him the Realtors name so we’ll see just how much of the story is true and how much is just to find out someone who may want to sell their home possibly, so he can get it as an agent. Not the first time, I've recieved similar calls over the last few years. Well, (sure have a lot of them around here) Guess I’ll mix up another batch of Plaster of Par-reee (rolled “r” like a true Frenchman) today and maybe get a little done on the layout before w**k. The pan will be dry enough to crack the stuff out and use for another load. This time I’ll wet the towels. Ya know, I been thinking about that and now I’m not sure if that helped or not. I do remember doing something that worked well. Unfortunately…..I’ve slept since then. I can’t remember what it was, it was on the previous layout and I……I can’t remember. To much has happened and too much time has past since the discovery of my “light bulb”. Oh well, I gotter once I’ll gitter agin. Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

MOH has a very bad sinus infection that is settling into the chest. GOes to see Dr. today..
Did my chores yesterday and have some errands to run today, though don;t know when.
Nothing new on RE {real estate} front 'cept the agent sent us a home WAY WAY out in the country I believe in foreclosure and probably sat all winter without winterization of plumbing so probably has burst pipes, and warnings to take flashlights with you as no electricity. Not for us.. Didn't look at all appetizing fromthe frontal pic. It would cost 2 days wages for MOH to drive to work at todays prices. Of course, MOH says would transfer to the closer store-if could.
Oh well.
Have a great day all

Well it snowed last evening; the area got 3” - 5” of the stuff in a matter of 4 hours. Went to the train club last night and worked on the ice house area for a while then went out for coffee with the guys.
With the impending possibility of a government shutdown I guess I’ll miss the N&W train show this weekend.

Evening,
CN CHARLIE: Hey, good to know there's still at least a few "ball and bar"s rolling along out there...
VINCENT: Well (most definitely with something floating in it...a body, perhaps...), maybe I'll bite the bullet if I can pick up one or two of those Front Range/McKean centerbeam flats on the cheap. They do seem to show up quite often on theBay. As for the decals, just make sure you have a good, glossy surface, take your time, and refer to the diagram/photos often. I've always used Walther's Solvaset, others prefer the stuff Microscale makes. Based on the age of the Front Range/McKean kits, you might want to apply a liquid decal film (Microscale makes one) to the decal sheet. Depending on how the kits were stored, the decals could be a bit on the fragile side of life. Few things suck worse than watching a decal break up into many, many, many pieces in the water.
My trusty, faithful, hasn't let me down yet Harbor 'O Freight airbrush has finally annoyed me. Actually, I think it's a problem with the paint jar. Last night I sprayed what Zito yellow I had left-over from the cement hopper project on a re-purposed in-Accu-rate-Rail Centerflo. Naturally, it wasn't quite enough to do the whole job. Now, I could've just as quick mixed up a new batch...but decided to let what I did sit for at least 24 hours before applying a second/finishing layer. So, I went and cleaned everything up. Tonight, I'm getting good air flow through the brush...but the paint just won't move. So (not a needle pulling thread), I clean out the siphon tube multiple times, re-seat the very much out-of-shape gasket thing...nothing!
The wife is going to hit the Cedar cRapids LHS tomorrow to replace Xacto blades she used up and thinks they would have something THAT would fit a Harbor 'O Freight airbrush. I applauded her thought process...but doubt a Badger or Testors jar will fit. Plus, the proprietor will likely get somewhat attitudinal since I didn't buy one of her high-priced units, opting instead for the Harbor. Anybody in here THAT has one have any ideas? TODD?
I thought (always a dangerous thing to do) THAT maybe it was an air pressure issue...but I didn't mess with the compressor other than to remove the brush from the hose. Naturally, the Harbor doesn't sell replacement jars... wait, I take THAT back. They have some goofy looking jar THAT supposedly mixes the paint too, and allegedly works on "most" airbrushes. Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh right. I might just end up getting a second brush, holding it in reserve, and using its jar.
Ah, I see Mr. Rerun is asking for his late-night trip outside to decorate the yard and do his final perimeter sweep of the night.
Best wishes to all in need, may tomorrow be a better day for us all!
Flo just a decaf to sooth my nerves before bed.....
I got a couple items in today's mail, so i can get to w*rk on a couple projects I've been waiting on. One was decals I ordered a week ago. the guy said it would be 2 weeks before I would get it. Very fast service... Too bad he misspelled the name of the Passenger Car I wanted them for....... LOL Oh well. Actually I can use them as it is a letter left off of the end of one word. I have extras of THAT letter as I had to order a lot more decals than I needed. Got one side partially done tonight before I finally turned off the lights and came upstairs.
Had a long District Committee Meeting for Scouts tonight. The Council Executive came down from Rochester to talk to us and explain a few things about our new council... Seems to be a pleasant sort of gent.
Hope you all have a great night!
Good Evening,
Well the snow is slowly melting and we now have only about a foot in our back yard.
Chris, I forgot to mention a while ago that on a trip to our friends in Thief River Falls, I saw a scruffy, dark green covered hopper with a CNW logo. It was sitting on a siding by an elevator on the Soo line that runs up to Winnipeg.
J.R. I had a look at your website today. Very impressive!!!! Don't know how you find the time to do RR stuff. You must be a very energetic fellow.
Well despite cutting the leads on the Digitrax DZ125 decoder to about 1/2" and soldering them onto an 8 pin plug, I still can't get the cover on the tender so I'll be calling TCS tomorrow as theirs does fit according to the photos on their website.
Lots of talk about computers, must be contagious as my wife now says she wants another one with Windows 7. She hates Vista and can't say I blame her.
Think I'll put the CPR stuff on the layout as I haven't run CP for at least 6 months. I like my S3 and the RS3. I like to run my engines in a sort of rotation. Maybe I'm in a rut but I like my rut. I know where it goes.
Good night all,

VINCENT, Just a heads up for you.
You will find your sleep will improve immensely if you cut out the POP after the supper hour. The combination of the cola and the carbonation really affects your sleep. I know I have proved it.
Also if you have to eat in the evening it should be lighter than a full meal. All your bodily systems are suppost to be at rest while you sleep, not just your brain.
If you do these things you will most likely find that you don't need any medication.
Good luck with that. A growing Boy needs his sleep.>>>> as does his Girlfriend.
Johnboy out........................
Ken,
Actually if my memory serves me the PRR J-1's were actually leased Santa Fe steamers. If I remember correctly they were originally leased during WWII when the PRR needed heavier steamers for coal and war materials and there was a moritorium on new classes of steamer models being built. In the past I have seen a photo of a Santa Fe 2-10-4 (Santa Fe livery) actually being used by the PRR.
Jeffery I was not looking for a hard drive so I was not taking notes. I was looking for a video card and Ram. Like I said 80 gigs is more than likely more than I will ever had need for.
Curt For some reason (beer) I thought you where working with a Santa Fe Type steamer. If your Steamer is a BLI Hudson really look at cutting out the brass thing they use for a spring and add the weights. My tracks so well I wore all the Nickel Silver off the drivers. Still picks up power well with the bare brass / copper showing.
Curt- Glad to here all is well. I figured there might be more going on with him for that kind of action.
OK, another issue with POP I had forgotten about. (imagine that. Me forget). Drying time. When you use it to soak towels (so to speak) for landscape, which it don't do real well but yet does, it starts drying enough from the soupy stage to make it past the soakable stage way faster than wanted. That means there is a lot of wasted material and a yucky tub. One problem is making a usable amount, but yet not too much as to waste alot. AND having to use a large enough tub to get a paper towel in makes the usable amount thinner and therefore dries faster yet. You really only have a couple minutes before it gets thick. Hydrocal, I understand has a longer set time. But, I will continue to use POP mainly because of the convenience to get factor. Only one of the Hobby shops carries it and it is the one that is only open two days out of the wek, and those are the two days I w**k. Plus weekends. On the plus side though, because it becomes gloppy, it also makes for uneven terrain.
It's not totally a pain, but it does take some getting used too and a bit of speed and patience all at the same time.
I've tried a roll of plaster cloth from WS also. I had trouble with that too. Next time I'm at Castle Trains (FLHS) I'm gonna suck it up and try a box of Hydrocal.
EDIT: DOHH! Just remembered. I forgot to get the towels wet first before dipping in POP. Good thing I have a neck, I'd forget my head.
