Hey guys

Just sitting in class (I'm already done for the semester with all my work) doing nothing.

Well I got the car together on Sunday night. Couldn't find my Mass air meter that was calibrated for 24 lbs injectors; so I was stuck using the original and messing with the tune to try and compensate. I ordered a meter from a ford lightning which is supposed to be adjustable for different injectors.

Chris, The 2-bay bash seems pretty easy. Was it just a CNW prototype or did other roads have them? Also when did they start showing up?

As for the centerbeams (I have 6, with 2 for spares) I've only started some of the assembly. I need to get some micro-sol and micro-set for the decals on them. I found a way to add weight to the 3 opera window ones (MILW, BN, UP) with some steel bar I can get from ace. The open one(CP) doesn't have as much room on the bottom for the bar, and I need to fabricate 4 of the diagonal support beams (or skip that and always run it with a load).

Jeff, is the shop beast payed in meat or plants? Laugh BTW, I haven't had any rain in a while.

Barry, hope the people in that one are alright

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Jeff- That was my assumption. I've tried the dish soap and water pre wetting with the same result.  I've had great luck with the alcohol pre wet and will probably stay with it.

Rest  for a bit (hm. Guess it fixed itself) before possibly heading to the basement to concoct my glue brew, 50/50 right? Of course I'll need to try it out. Say, I read somewhere you can put some dish soap in the glue mix and forego the wetting process. Anybody agree? I'm not going to do that now, I'll stick with the tried and true, but if it works, maybe the next bottle.

I've used the dish soap routine before but always end up coming back to using alcohol as the pre-wetting agent. There's no waiting for the glue to soak in. When I used the dish soap method it seemed like the glue just sat on top for a second or two.

Well, as Jeff would say, "seems others had plans for me". Or something similar. Anyway, I'm home with my Elmer's glue and a box of Banana Twinkies. I was hoping for a larger bottle of glue, but I guess for my purposes it's really twice as much and a lot cheaper.

Ulrich- Count me in on the railpass, I just was waiting until I had something to exchange. I have the pass made except I want to make up a division or something that will give it a false identity from the real Texas & Pacific. Kinda sorta to make it obvious for the purists that it is NOT intended to be a prototypical RR. I haven't come up with anything I like yet. My first thought was to use my last name Marshall, as a town and therefore a division of sorts, but of course Marshall is a town and is also home to the T&P (depending on how you look at it I guess) so, that would give the wrong impression. Though I suppose everything I do would fire them up so one more thing shouldn't really matter. I'll give it another thought.

Rob- I think I'll re read your suggestion before I consider it.  Laugh Laugh Whistling Laugh

Ray- I know what you mean.  Odd. The Bold icon is not highlighted.

Hey all,

Flo I would love a turkey wrap and ice tea please.

Not much going on today. I am going to use Pof P and make some rocks and build the 2 bill boards  I bought Saturday. Just spent $290 on repairs to the front of my Colorado. Ouch. The upside is that it drives great now.

I think I lost a friend at work yesterday. I am the shop steward and my friend was getting the shaft from the department, so I  was doing my job and getting geared up to fight for him today. I let the union president and asst. shop  steward know what was happening. Well it seems he fixed the issue Sat night  but never let me know. So he blasts me for interfering and using his name without permission, ect., ect. Basically accused me of screwing him. I think we are done as friends, and it is a shame.

Ulrich- I think you have me confused with someone else. I am actually in the  process of laying track on my layout.

Jeff- I hope your mother is  well and gets out of the hospital soon.

Barry- I am glad your family and friends are OK. Possessions can be replaced, people can not.

Galaxy- I hope your  migraines get better very soon.

Everyone take care.

Good Afternoon,

Janie, just a mug of hot chamomile tea please. I am not feeling well, the old ticker seems to be acting up again.

Barry - I am glad to hear that the folks you know are safe.

Ray - I still cannot see how on earth someone is able to handle these small parts! That interior is just outrageous - please accept my Bow.

There seems to be only little interest in exchanging rail passes, as I have received only one request. Well, I am ready to send ´em out, should there be the wish to have one from me.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a couple eggs over easy, bacon, and a couple of slices of dark rye toast with real butter please to go along with several cups of dark roast coffee this morning.

Barry, what a horrible fire!  I hope and pray that your friends are all safe and accounted for.  Do they know what caused the explosion?

Todd, growing up I lived in an old late 1800s farm house.  The framing was 2 x 4s  real 2" x 4"  2 x 4s.  My father, back in the late 1950's did some rebuilding of the "back shed" attached to the kitchen (Kitchen was one of the old tradition one story type attached to a 2 story house.  Made it much easier back then to keep it cooler in the Summer.)  He added a new door and had to move where a wall was to make the changes.  He ended up having to add a small shim to the new 2 x 4s to make them even with the old ones.

Jeffrey, waiting to see more progress with your layout......

Today will involve unpacking all the Stuff from the show and getting to w*rk on some items for the engine house.

Catch you all later!

Good morning. It's 48° and cloudy. The high will be in the upper 60's and a strange yellow orb will be making brief appearances throughout the day.

The only thing on my schedule today is to get the dried glue from the ballasting work off the rails. The easiest way to do this will be with a mini sanding block I made and some 800 grit wet/dry sandpaper. I tried going over the tops of the rails with a damp cloth and wipe it up with a dry paper towel but all that did was spread it around. As I said that's what I have on my schedule. What others add to it remains to be seen. There are also five more billboards to be placed.

Good Morning!! Just coffee please. Thanks, I’ve gotta get going this morning to get things done so I have aNOTHER good great day in the train room. I hope. That will make three in a row. Woo hoo! That’s almost as many as Flip and PC have TOP’s in a row.

Supposed to be in the 40’s today and thru Thursday. Friday is 50’s hopefully. Well, Thursday is supposed to be 49. What’s one degree and who could tell?

OH! RAY could now that you mention it. My dear Ray, I’m afraid I have to agree with your friend, it’s a very small amount. Of course, (watch this guys Mischief) You’ll know it’s not “right” (tee hee). _ As for the phenomenon, when you find it let me know I can use that word very often. Daily in fact.

I ran into a double reduction in dimensions on Moms house. A 2X 10 in 19 and 72 was 1½” X 9½”. In 2010, it’s 1 ½”X 9 ¼” Makes for an interesting repair job. Not hard, just aggravating for the end appearance.Grumpy

Let’s seeeee….yesterday I started putting together the windmill for the Tourist town, um….other than what I said yesterday I think that was about it. Today, however, I want to sift more clay into my ready to use bucket and continue working on the tunnel insides and the bridge area. I found another tunnel portal while looking for my chain to use on the water tower spout, (never did do that but now all I have to do is attach the pull chain.) so I may use one where I decided not to. ( portal that is, not chain) It’d be difficult to tell if there was one there or not anyway, so I may just fake it. Then again……I’d know, and well, you knowHmm.

Have to go to town to pay the fish bill for the Church and since it’s right across (“country” across that is. That would mean, across the road and down a bit) from the Walmart I will stop in and get some Elmers to try and make my own scenic cement. Blue label, not School Glue.Got it. I also need something else too……can’t think what it is. Oh well, I’ll remember it after I get back.

Oh wait! I misspelled…..too late, I already clicked the Post button

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good morning.

Flip.... Good to see you. Sad about Deb's continued illness. Prayers continue.

Ray ... I could tell you were not at your home workbench. This one was too tidy.

Barry ... What a horrible fire. Prayers for the victims.

Lee ... do you still have my email address to send billboard art? I like the ones on Jeff's layout.

My MI sister is still in AL helping with stuff. My AL sister is still recovering from injuries. I may be going back to AL again soon. I've been cating up on non MRR stuff.

I worked on the layout yesterday, and installed sidings for my power house. I made the power house before my AL adventures.

Good Morning,

Well my box of stuff from LHS was back ordered and the Base Exchange didn’t receive the little stereo last Friday so I wandered over to Harbor Freight tools; for $60 I bought a new airbrush compressor, came with a water separator and a max output of 40psi.

Curt that was me with the nail pulling cutters.  I’m glad it worked for you.

Good Morning..

A mix of sun/cloud with a high of 36F is forecast for us'uns today..with our ever popular little tiny snow fluffies...

Today, I'll be doing the dual teaching thing with the other fellow...this is going to be interesting...Whistling

Ulrich, Rob: Well, I finally got a hold of my sister who just happened to be just down the street from there when it happened...it started with the explosion..the windows at her friends place 3 blocks away rattled...found out that a friend of ours now is living at her sisters and that she and her daughter Lauren are OK but lost everything to that blast...There was an older lady who used to be my client until she was moved closer to her family that is now among the missing...It is a pretty sad time there....Angel

Flo, I'll just have a decaf coffee right now...I'm still a little addled...

Good Morning Gang,

a night without any sleep, for both Petra and me. This insomnia really has the grips on us and is wearing us down Sleep

Chloe, a strong coffee, please.

Jeff - I like that dinosaur/gecko pulling the loco. Is it a 0-4-0F and did it come R-T-W (Ready To Walk)? I also remember John Allen putting little figures like taht on his famous layout. Thumbs Up Good to hear that your mos condition is stable again. Can´t say that for my mom...

Barry - that´s awful! Did the folks you know escape unhurt? My Angel to the people who lost a loved one!

Galaxy - I hope your headache will go away soon. Whenever I have my monthly migraine attack, it´ll last for a minimum of three days. Try to come through without medications, as most of the stuff really helps only a little. Healing prayers are being sent your way!

Ken - hope you´ll feel better today. Healing prayers are also on the way to you!

Curt - if you let me have the precise dimensions of your layout/room - well, maybe I can come up with a track plan idea.

Hope you have a good day!

Grapefruit, please.

***Barry, one has to wonder what caused that kind of explosion. Yikes!

***Ray, with a smile like that, you could get away with just about anything.

Nailed a couple pieces of wood to the wall at the volcano rim height. Will use wire from there to create crater walls. It's much steeper than I would prefer, but space is limited.

It won't be warm again until next weekend. I don't like to use glues (like liquid nails) without having windows open, so progress on the volcano may be delayed.

Have a good night y'all.

Evenin' Folks!

Flo just a decaf for the moment and, ah, that boston creme pie looks really good.  Perhaps just a small slice?

Jeffrey, is that the Gieco Gecko on the rear end of that Crummy?

Had a great day at the Batavia Train Show!  Talked to lots of people about model railroading and the NMRA.  I had a pile of about 50 railpass membership applications on the table this morning.  more than half were gone by the end of the day.  Lots of questions about the organization....  i am going to suggest that a couple divisions to the West of mine give my Division a "finders fee" for getting them new members.  Whistling  Spoke to at least 30 people as did one of the other guys helping out.....

I also had a lot of wide eyed stares from people checking over the engine house today.  The gentleman sitting on my Right for the show is a well known author, and has been a MMR since the 1960's, looked over when I took it out of the box, stared at it, looked back up at me, and then gave a big broad grin and then sat back down.....  I take it as a very good sign.  He will be one of the judges when I finally get it to the stage where it can be judged for a Merit Award.  We were exchanging emails yesterday about the needed size of rafters for the roof of the item...  We ended up in a discussion of the difference between a real 2 x 6 and the ones we buy today which are 1.75" x 3.75"....  He finally tells that since the difference of 1/4 inch in HO is all of .00287" not to worry about it...Laugh  He looked again today and found the that the width of the main building will require something sturdier than what we discussed yesterday for the machine shop.  He will get back to me.  His degree was in Mechanical Engineering, BTW.  He is a gentleman I love to hang around with!  Great sense of humor and always a good word for people.  Not to mention one of the best of the best as a modeler.

I seem to have gone on for a bit, so I will just go sit by the fire and relax....
