I need a drink. Starting to see things. Looks like......nah, you wouldn't believe me anyway.

Work progresses on the tunnels. Been at it all day and seem to progress veeery slow. I've got the rock walls up, or at least most and am waiting for the caulk to dry. Weathered the bridge some. Not very good though. We'll see how it looks when the ground is turned from white to whatever it turns out to be. Nature can be soooo unpredictable. (chuckle)

Back down I go, unless I decide to take an after supper nap. Has been known to happen you know.

***Jeffrey, Hey, whatever works!"Laugh

Got most of the inside tunnel ground work painted, without too much on the rails.Whistling Better run some trains before making anything permanent. Paint doesn't conduct current very well.

Today the L&A broke out some old motive power from the early days of the line.

Curt- I don't have the room for Tortoise machines. All nine are Atlas turnouts with the switch alongside. Haven't had a problem with them on my three different layouts. Heck, they survived Andrew and three moves from Miami. Jon owns All Aboard South and does all kinds of repairs and installations of lights and sound. He has helped me many times and I am amazed that he tolerates me. I can be a PITA.  I'm hoping to go as I have some items I wish to sell or trade. Just don't use them. And, looking for two specific FEC Ortners.

Prayers for all.

Strong coffee in a SOGGY SOUTHERN mug, please.

Spray painted the inside of the cut pipe sections for the tunnels black. Found some acrylic ultramarine blue and some old black ink to mix for painting along the tunnel tracks. Not the best mix, but will work and it's what I have on hand.

The ground is oozing water outside from all the storms. OK Mother Nature, you can give it a rest now.

Jessica called me the other day and said I got something from MRR.  It's probably the contract for my picture.  Once I get it, I will let you guys know when it will be in the magazine.

Things are still going pretty good.   I do miss the weathering and the hobby thou.  I will try to pop back in later, and have a good day!!

JEFF: Unless I'm looking in the wrong place, the last message showing is from JIM back in September...

Sorry. Got you mixed up with Fireman216. Near as I can tell he hasn't been in since the 17th. Hope he's not having a problem.

Tim: Check your PM's.

Got some news about my mother's condition a little while ago. She's back in the ER again. Her ammonia and potassium levels are way out of whack and they're trying to get them back to normal. I have problems with my potassium level getting too high if I eat things like bananas, cherries and avocados so I know how rough that can be. Naturally I avoid those foods like the plague. My sister and my niece are there with her and they are calling me periodically to keep me updated on her condition.

afternoon all

Still have the headache.

I hate marathon migraines! Nothing I have seems to work! not even the new "preventing" medication the neurologist gave me!

I have spent most of today in bad and will probably spend the rest of it bed as well. I was vomiting yesterday and last night too, not a good sign when I have a migraine as that means its in ful swing.

I told MOH to get a foot long sub at subway on the way home for dinner as I won't be cooking, and most likely not eating much either. I've learned NOT to eat when I get to the vomiting point in a headache as it is hared to get stuff back up wiht a full tummy. SOrry for being gross.

Later guys

hope YOU all have a better day than I am having!

Goooooooooooooooooooooood Mornin', stack of pancakes, pile of bacon, bucket of coffee please...and thank-you. Yup, with plenty of imitation butter and maple-flavored corn syrup on the 'cakes!

JEFF: Unless I'm looking in the wrong place, the last message showing is from JIM back in September...

VINCENT: Thanks! I've got the article someplace, but it's really simple.

Take an Athearn PS 3-bay grain hopper, count five (5) ribs in from the ends, and cut with a razor saw across the body. The Proto 1000 (or is it 2000?) PS high-side grain hopper would be more authentic, but blue box Athearns are easier to find, and cheaper. Also, when the guy did the original article, the Proto hopper wasn't available. Anyhow: Cut on the right or inside side of the fifth rib. Do that on both ends since you want to remove the middle bay. File the new ends smooth and square, apply a little bracing inside and weld it back together with your favorite plastic cement. I use Testor's in the glass jar. A thin strip of styrene is applied to cover the joint on the sides of the body. The underframe/hoppers is cut much the same way. You cut behind the two end bays. The inside or "back" of the hoppers has to be cut to fit. I usually have to fabricate a new end piece as I end up cutting the back of the hopper off. The weight is now useless, toss it into your spare parts pile. I epoxy (JB Weld) nuts and washers in the hoppers. Once you install the underframe/hoppers, you'll need some bits of plastic to represent the frame between the two hoppers. Up top, the roofwalk has to be cut and trimmed to fit. The loading hatch goes into your spare parts pile. Three round hopper hatches, like off the McKean or Front Range ACF Center Flo hopper, are used for the loading hatches. Testor's 1112 light yellow is a very good CNW Zito Yellow. Scalecoat 2 CNW Yellow looks like the Zito as well. Badger Modelflex makes the CNW Zito as well, but they made it far too green...Dead The decals are Herald King HH-21, designed for a 2-bay ACF CenterFlo. They aren't perfect, but close enough. If somebody wants to take the magnifying glass and a scale rule and compare every dimensional data bit...they are welcome to do so. BUT, they will be exiting the property with the scale rule and magnifying glass crammed into an orifice of my choosing. Herald King can be tough to find, I think the latest owner has given up. Northern Central Supply might have the set. Microscale makes a set for CNW freight cars from 1992-to the end, that could work too. The set is for a boxcar nobody makes Confused, the Thrall hopper that looks kinda like a Center Flo, but again nobody makes Hmm, and a 2-bay cement hopper by Thrall that kinda looks like a Center Flo...that nobody makes a model of Tongue Tied. I've done this four times, each one has come out slightly different.   How's THAT McKean/Front Range centerbeam flatcar coming together for you????

ROB: Thanks to you also for the kind words!

Well (with something floating in it...), I've taken up enough time, I'll have me a seat here...

Jeff, Speaking of the jack and RV thing. On the way back home I passed an RV with 4 manual scissor jacks on it. It was a small one though, and it looked like 4 of the jacks that are in the trunk of my car.

I've seen some of those here. The old arm twisters as I call them. I learned to hate scissor jacks the first time I used one. I prefer a 2.5 ton hydraulic floor jack. Much easier to manage.

Morning guys

Got all the new stuff installed on my car, except for the air filter and mass air meter. The car my brother just bought has the air filter and mass air meter I need (told you that was complicated). In the process, I ripped out the entirety of the EGR system and will be using the tune chip to turn the EGR system off and get everything recalibrated to the 24lbs injectors.

The car show yesterday was fun. Mostly mustangs, but there were a few ford GTs, Saleen S7s, Ferraris, and some mopar stuff (there was a Superbird or Daytona there). There was also an unrestored GT350 that the owner bought in the 70s and still drive it around almost daily,

Also found a Shifter boot bezel there for my car from a vendor. All the cars like mine that end up in the junkyard are always automatic V6s and never have them. Still trying to find a cruise control cable for an 87-93 5.0 mustang to use in my 94. And I picked up a set of iron GT40 heads (with only 90K miles on them) all for around $170. Not too bad IMO (although there were bunches of aluminum GT40s heads at the show in the $350-$450 range.

I was supposed to get a box yesterday that conatained 2 RI blue Front Range ACF hoppers and 1 Walthers GN BSB airslide. (would be my 2nd airslide, I have an IC historical society one)

Ken, I checked the odometer and it is just under 214,000. Mind you it was broke when I bought it and I know I put another 1,000 miles on it before I fixed it (cracked gear in the odometer; isn't 94 about the same time as the P2K cracked axle thing?). so I have no clue what the actual mileage is. Could possibly be closer to 300,000-400,000. For the record, my father's 88 5.0 mustang made it to around 360,000 (some of it was on autobahns and on drag strips) before it started throwing oil everywhere. That motor was rebuilt into the 306 that I'm getting.

Bama, As of now I'm just building it to be reliable, get decent mileage, and decent power. The mustang is my daily driver, and with it's age and mileage I can't really be pushing it too hard (no boost or juice for me). Now maybe when I'm older I'll go a little more crazy with with it.

Ray, That's a really nice model shop there.

Jeff, Speaking of the jack and RV thing. On the way back home I passed an RV with 4 manual scissor jacks on it. It was a small one though, and it looked like 4 of the jacks that are in the trunk of my car.

Jerry, nice looking flat there.

Chris, Nice work on those car, do you have an article on the 2-bay cement hopper?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Hi all,

Flo I would love a club sandwich and a ice tea please.

Flip - I was actually disapointed in the Tampa show (expected more) but I did pick up 6 #6 turnouts and the double curve one that I needed. I actually judged the radius size on the double very good and very little modification was needed before installing it. There is a guy at my club that has some kind of connection with a MRR distributor and he is getting me 14 PECO  #5 turnouts for $20 each with no S/H. I pick them up on Saturday. I will then have all that I need.

The last couple of Volusia shows that I have been to have not impressed me. I am not sure if I am going, but probably will as I need 12 more tortoise switch machines.

Everyone take care.

Good Morning All,

Flo, coffee please.

Not much happening here in the smokies this weekend, been getting ready for Our trip to NCECA in Tampa. The layout is still at a stand still, I just can not come up with a track plan that I am happy with, so I am starting on a new approach. Instead of focusing on the main line I am going to get the station/museum and facilities down and then worry about the rest later. Was up in the studio yesterday and started scratch builing a turntable thanks to some wonderful ideas posted on the forums, once done then maybe I can find the inspiration to put something down on all that bench work sitting there idle up in the studio.

Looks like everybody is up and dressed, they probably want to go do something so I better get off of here. TAYAL.

Good morning, all. Yeah, this old man is still hanging in.  Don't really have much to add to all the comments made. I love the pictures you folks post, both of your own work, and old pictures.  I;m still leery of Vinnie. Will he ever be convinced that it wasn't me that touched the waitress?

Curt- did you get all you needed at the Tampa show? There is a Train show at the Volusia County Fairgrounds on Sat., April 9 from 9 till 4.  Thats about 37 miles from Eustis, straight ahead on 44. My LHS is an ex Pennsy modeler. Had an extensive layout up north. Still loves the PRR.

Deb is still fighting the liver disease. Going for another biopsy in two weeks Then needs surgery on her left knee. Twisted it while picking up our grandson.[27 months old.]  I'm still driving for the county, taking folks to their medical appointments.

J.R.- As far as I remember, PC and I are still tied at three in a row for T O P.

Prayers and Blessings for all.

Good Morning!! Dark Roast coffee please and a couple caramel rolls thank you.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 40.

Well, I didn’t do any new tunnel prep work yesterday after all. Well, yes I did. I cast a bunch of rock walls for various things, and the tunnel walls were one of them. Today is another lazy day so I think I will spend most of it down in the train room again. I plan on working again on the tunnels and then also some cleanup both on the layout side of the room and the other side. Boy I made a mess on the layout. Unless I’m over ruled. Doesn’t look like I will be though as she doesn’t seem to want to do much either but sit and watch TV.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good morning. It's 62° and cloudy. The high will be 69° with a 50% chance of thunderstorms.

Wet and cooler today. There's nothing on my schedule today except watching some TV and staying off my feet as much as possible.

Good Morning,

and a special one to you, Rob!

I did not catch much sleep either, there are just too many things in my head keeping me from sleeping well. We changed to DST last night, so the time difference to you folks is on track again.

Got my photo printer up and running. A long search in the guts of my storage yielded the long missed CD ROM. I am all set to print those rail passes now. If you´d like to exchange a rail pass with me, just PM me your name and address (even if you already did this - I am bad at keeping addresses). and your pass will be on its way to you!

Nothing planned for the day - maybe just watch the idot box - it´s John Wayne Day today!

Zoe, just a cup of coffee for me, please - it´s too late for breakfast and too early for lunch.

Have a good one!

5:00am Over-tired, no sleep yet. Watched a movie, then surfed around watching train videos online. Saw some pretty neat combos of loco types & road names pulling both coal drags & mixed freight. All my favorites, UP, Santa Fe & BN. Practically any combo I want to come up with could have happened in real life somewhere at some time.

Another thunder-boomer approaches. What a stormy night this has been. One of our indoor cats is oblivious to it, the other becomes frightened and hides in the closet under the stairs. And on that note, better get off the computer again.

Good Morning! Sleep Rob

Good Evening,

Well spring is certainly slow coming here. It was sunny today but the temp didn't get above freezing. It is supposed to get down to about -15C tonight. Despite the cool temps the snow is melting slowly if it is in the sun.

Wife worked today so I got the car washed and found out that it is actually black. I also went to the LHS. I picked up one of those '53 Ford wagons and have to say it is a nice model. I also got a small speaker so I can put the sound decoder I have in my  Bman GP9. I'm getting closer on my N scale door layout plan and will start to order the track soon. I also need some decoders as I've decided to go DCC and have a few engines to convert.

Nice job on that flat car Jerry!

Tomorrow we'll likely be looking at some of the video we shot on our Africa trip. We were watching some last night and my wife got a really great sequence of  a big male lion dragging a zebra carcass over half a mile to a tree for a little shade in the Masai Mara(Kenya).  He would grab it in his teeth and drag it a hundred feet, then stop for a rest and do the same all over. Behind him was a trail of 20 or so vultures hopping along hoping a bit would fall off. The power of a male lion is really amazing as a zebra is a large animal. There were some hyenas in the distance but they wouldn't dare try to take a kill from a male lion. Just like watching National Geographic except we were there doing the photography!

 See you soon,

CN Charlie

Chicken enchiladas with rice and beans, please.

***Ken, enjoy the snow. We're past that for this year. Now we're having severe thunderstorms. Still rockin' & rollin' out there as I type. At least the power came back on and everything seems to still work. Some mighty close strikes, so hope all the critters are OK.

Think I can use a couple old tunnel portals that have been laying around collecting dust. Calling it a night in the train room though. Kinda tuckered out.

Have a good night y'all.

 Evening Dinners

Let Snow, Let Snow Let Snow. StormStormStormStormStormStormStormStormStormStormStormStormStormStormStormStorm

Well I am stunned, looks like we got another 5 inches? Plus it is still coming down! While I like snow, after 75 degree days I m out of the mood for the stuff. Only thing we have going for us is it is not sticking on the roads, yet. With last week being in the 70's roads are still some what warm, but it is building up in the yards.

Plus I am starting to feel sick, feel like I have a fever and chills at the same time. Dead I get sick mainly when there is big swings in the weather.

Work Front Ben (my boss) called and told me I am on the verge of setting another record for the store! Asked me if I thought I could get $50,000.00 this month? Then he had to run before I could do the math. I would need $13,000.00 in 6 days to pull that off, I am not holding my breath.

From 9:00 AM till 2:00 PM I only had one customer and they bought a $49.00 frame, I was thinking I am screwed. While I never got busy, some how I did get $3150.00 in sales! While I needed $4000.00 plus to get on track for a $50K month I am still shocked I did that good with all the nasty weather.

JR Lot of things would need to happen for me to get back into The Need For Speed. I would need to get back into running a body shop where the owner would let me work on my stuff. Either that or start making $50,000 to $60,000 and tear down the train layout.

I was a hard core gear head from age 15 to age 50 so that was a pretty good run, longer than many. While the Mopar Fire is out, there is still a amber glow in me.

Howdy All,

Had an interesting time at the club tonight. Met the president of  the Tampa HO club (works for CSX), and a bunch of us had dinner with him. When we got back to the club an older member showed me about 75 B&W photos he took as a teenager rail fanning the PRR back in 1953 (Phily-Camden area). That was really neat. The club president asked us if we were looking at naked women and I said better-Steam Locomotives!

I downloaded some great color 1940's bill board advertisements last night so I picked up a set of Cornerstone bill boards at the LHS.

Well everyone take care of yourself.

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a decaf for me.  I'll be in the back booth keeping warm and chillin' out...

I am all packed for the Batavia Train Show tomorrow.  Batavia is about an hour and 20 min. drive from my house and i need to be there before 8:30AM, so I will be up very early Tomorrow.  I should be picking up a set of Rivarossi Heavyweight passenger cars (now that I bought a set...) from a friend who will be having a table to sell off some unneeded stuff he has.

I will be doing some more w*rk on tyhe Engine House at the NMRA Modelers Corner Booth.  Should be 3 of us manning it so We all should have a great time.  Lunch will be Beef on Weck!  Yum!

Rob, happiness is find things you need but didn't know you had. Smile, Wink & Grin

Catch you all late tomorrow night probably!
