Good evening everyone,

Flo I would love a pancake stack with blackberry topping on them.

Cudaken- Thanks for the info on my J1. It may be a couple of weeks before I can check everything out that you suggested checking but I will look at it all.

Howmus- The pictures of your granddaughter are great. It looks like she really enjoyed herself today.

The weather today starting around 1600 was terrible here. Trees blowing down, torrential rain, hail, and wind damage. Summer is definitely here at least in central florida.

Corey came in today and apoligized to me for what he said. He said there was a lot of c**p going on with his family this weekend and he just erupted. I accepted his apology and we are good. I am really glad about that. I don't make close friends easily so I would of hated to lose one.

Everyone take care.

Well I just got some bad news.

I changed out steering rack in my car last weeked. When I moved my car from one driveway to the other, I noticed a lake of steering fluid. Checked the lines and there was no fluid leaking from there. Turns out fluid was getting into the passenger side dust  boot and it was leaking from the end. Fluid is not supposed to get into the boot. So whomever rebuilt it forgot something somewhere...

So that exlpains why after 4 days of driving, I already used up a quart of the stuff...

Luckily I have a lifetime warranty.

Pot roast with veggies and a coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Ray, those pics are so sweet I put the smiling one on our desktop for my wife to see. At that age, I was running a little N scale 0-6-0 around a loop and was thrilled with that. She's a lucky girl.

Heading down to the train room to see how the first bit of sheetrock mud is drying around the bridge supports.

Hope y'all are doing well. Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Last time looked on Egg Head.Com I think I saw a 80 gig western 10,000 RPM drive in the $40.00 to $60.00 range. I don't think personal I would need over 40 gig. Old computer was a 40 gig and it still had 12 gigs left when I killed it. If I read it right Bombay Bob wanted $130.00 for instructions on how to install it? Grumpy That is just plain stupid! You just pull the side covers, undo the screws that hold the hard drive, pull out the ribbon wire and slap in the new one. Now reformatting it takes a while and you will need your old files on a thumb drive, CD or DVD.But it is not super tuff. If you need help, I know a great guy on the site that knows his stuff (does it for a living) that might help.

$60 for an 80 gig drive? I could buy one at retail here for that. In fact that's what I use in my computer. I paid $45 for the drive new and that was from a computer repair shop.

Afternoon from the land of Bull Excrement, spoke with the  Bank Of Stupid today.

Flo, I will take a order of Fried Catfish, Hus-puppies, Slaw and a Beer if you would please.

From last night a few items.

Gary Hard Drive from Dell for what was it $70.00? While not a steal, guess that sort of a fair prices for a name brand. If you need help, I know a great guy on the site that knows his stuff (does it for a living) that might help.

If you do get the MAC, what are you doing with the old machine? I am running a Dell 3300 right now, and might be able to use some of it guts.

Todd Sure this old news by now. On ballasting I use the eye dropper with alcohol, then spray with wet water and then 50% white glue, water and a touch of dish soap.

Curt On your Steamer Tracking problem, first thing I would look at is the wheel gauge on the leading truck and next the track and turnout frogs. Most RTR turnout frogs are to tall and need to be sanded down to the rail head height. All so very few of us can lay perfect track work all the way around the layout. So depending on what you find here might be a way to help you engine track better.

1 If pilot truck is mounted on a post with a screw and spring, added some Kadee washers to increase down forces. I would start with a .10 , then go with a .15, then 2 x .10 and see what happens.

2 If they are free floating I use thin 1:1 automobile self sticking Mag wheel weights on top of the pilot truck. If they are to thick (I get the thinnest I can) I mash them with a bench vices till they clear the boiler.

My BLI J-1 used a copper strip to push down the led truck and it wore out pretty quickly. I cut it off and added 1.25 wheel weights (cut off a extra 1/4 from a weight) and it now tracks great.

Bank Of Stupid Won't go into great details, but today when I called the dumb excrement representative I was told I was still $16,489.00 behind? I pointed out I had in front of me a statement from them showing I was $13,491.00 behind, she had no answers as normal.

They have pretty much wore me out and I am tired of there S*&#. Whistling

 See you all Thursday.

Hey guys

It was raining like crazy earlier. now it's actually nice out. Managed to get my BSB airslide together today. Although the trucks on it were a new one to me. Never had a car with plastic sprung trucks from walthers before.

Sleep issues, I took the max dose of my sleep aid (doc says 2-3; i've been doing 2 for a while) and it worked out nicely. I should probably lay off the vault stuff at work too.

Chris, They aren't all to bad. The big thing on them for me is doing decals (never done them before). Usually the parts do fit with some filing and sanding. Much like the athearn BB and some accurail kits. Although the cars themselves come out very light (like 2-3 ounces) and don't have swinging drawbars like the walthers car (which is a later prototype). the warped parts tends to go away once the superstructure is snapped together. That's the phase I'm at on the BN and CP ones.

I haven't gone as far as you did regarding the sleep thing.

Rob, I do have a tendency to eat a bunch of high-carb foods right before bed. usually the sleep aids knock me right out (as in enough that even downing 2 20ounce bottles of Dr. Pepper at dinner still won't do anything) but lately not so much.

Todd, lol at the girl part. but you may have a point there.

Afternoon folks!

Flo I'll have a bacon cheeseburger and a Dr. Pepper for lunch.  What?  Oh yes some fries with THAT.

Well (Old style hand dug type...),  I just had an hour long operating session on the layout.  Have new engineer I guess.  Able to operate trains pretty much by herself.  Here she is now:

Does she look like she is having fun?

With a bit of help she was able to set the routes and handle the throttle with no problem.  First words as she came in the door were, "Can we play with your trains Papa?"  I even let her run my new passenger train! After about an hour she decided she wanted to get out "her" train (Thomas).  So we shut everything down and went upstairs and got out Thomas.  just about got the rail all together when in come Dad and little sister, who was elated to have something to take apart!  They had to leave to get back home.  We had a major hissy fit on our hands.  #1 granddaughter did everything she could to avoid putting on her coat and leaving!  I think she likes Grandpa's house with the trains.....Smile, Wink & Grin

Only problem we had was that both trains we ran derailed in some weird places where they never have had a problem before.  Been spending so much time on the Engine House/ Workshop THAT I haven't been running trains and keeping everything up to snuff....  Need to spend a bit more time doing THAT I guess.

Got a whole bunch of non MR stuff to get done this afternoon, so I best get going.

Later!

Headache{new one yesterday} seems to be easing.

Diswasher loaded and running.

MAybe I'll run a load of laundry.

No real news on the MRRing space witha  house covering it. The one we got emailed to us that we really like and is not far from our current location where we would like to stay is a little out or our price league, I think by 20K. It does have a half finished basement with fireplace and a 2 car detached garage.Perhaps if it didn't have those two attributes, we could deal. But the 20K drop might offend the sellers.  It appears map-wise to be on the high side of MArshland road {so named for a reason} away from teh areas that flooded in the 500 yr flood plane in 2006, so we shouldn't have to buy extra flood insurance, In fact it's  higher than the interstate that runs through here, and parts of it flooded both directions in 2006. It should even be higher off the surrounding river ground than we are now {we didn't flood, but were "socked in" with only one over-the-hill way out}. Dunno. The agent called last night I was lying down and MOH was out. She didn't leave a message. Must have been from her home phone as number was not her cell # which we have. I called the number back and left a message for her!

Houses here are relatively cheap compared to some of your other areas around the country. 2storys and capes are cheaper than ranches but we only want a ranch. After watching my mother suffer from Multiple Sclerosis as I grew up in a ranch house, and after my MIL has to have stair climber auto-lifts in a multi-level due to her age and stroke, and the fact that MOH and I have lived one-floor living in a trailer so long ourselves, we only want a ranch!!!

Well, I guess maybe I'll go throw a load of laundry in the washer.

Havea  great day!

Good Morning Gang,

Just a piece of Cherry Cobbler and a HC this morning, Please girls. I must try to keep my girlish figure  LOl.

I was just doing a little bouncing around on the Puter last night while this Forum was dragging it's A_ _ to the point that no one is going to waste that much time on it.   ANYWAY, this is what I ran across.

YouTube - Runaway Train Oshawa Yard GM

So if your new pick up didn't get delivered in the time frame that was given you, this might be the reason.  I didn't see a date associated with it, so maybe one of you might know that and can inform us of when that happened.   OR perhaps you would like to model it, but boy the cost of those three hundred fresh cherries or Mini Metals I think would break the bank.Blindfold

Have the day off today and tomorrow so I must get to the H.D.List so that I might find some train time later.

Blessings of health and best wishes to all,  Keep smiling.

Good Morning,

Nothing going on here, still bitterly cold outside with opening day for the Indians only 2 days away…

Maybe I need to do some more billboards; those seemed to be a big hit, I’ll add it to my MRR work list so if I get furloughed on the 8th I can keep busy with the layout.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe. I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal w/ brown sugar and a cup of dark roast coffee to start the day.

Just waiting for granddaughter #1 to arrive so we can play with Grampa's trains.....  I cleaned track last night and ran some trains myself in expectation of her arrival.  I plan on letting her run my latest new cars behind a 4-6-0.  They are the Rivarossi heavyweights.  I even corrected a problem the coaches came with, low coupler height, last night so hopefully they will stay coupled better.

Todd, thank you for your kind words.  The NMRA has a bad rap due to the nonsense that goes on at the division level in some places.  My own division had become a "same old, same old" type that was getting only a handfull of people to meets.  I must add that the leadership back at that time were fine, friendly folks, but I guess had fallen into a rut.  My first meet was one where they were doing some things different from what they had done before, and there was a very good feeling.  i had already gone and joined the NMRA and then got active in the division.

Oh!  Got to go....  A very pretty young lady just stopped in......

Later!

Good morning. It's 52°, cloudy and wet. The high will be 61° and mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of rain.

Hardly any rain yesterday then early this this morning the bottom dropped out. I don't know the amount of rainfall yet but it sounded to be significant. At least three separate and quite large thunderstorms moved through the area causing several power outages in my immediate area. Yesterday I got one billboard up and hand painted loads for three gondolas. I also built up the foundation around the north engine house. Today I'll be placing some clump foliage around the south engine house to blend it into the ground cover. I have two more billboards to put up. The last two. They're for the IS Railroad Company and the Autumns Ridge Railway and Navigation Company.

Good Morning!! Just a bowl of Corn Chex please and of course my coffee thank you. Could I get a hot washcloth to lay over my sinuses please Zoe? I have a bit of a pressure issue going on here.

Partly sunny, with a high near 49.

They must be working on this site later at night. It was like trying to get the dog to mow the grass getting on here last night. I gave up. Just as well, had nothing to say OTHER THAN:

Ray- I was reading THAT thread. Too bad too. Bad thing is, people will remember the bad things that are said whether they are warranted or not, but will not recall the many members like you. Nice, helpful always willing to help someone, volunteers for most everything to further the hobby, and just chock full of…(cough)....information. Bound to keep some from even trying.

I had thought about it, joining the NMRA, but I’m a Lone Wolf and really don’t have time for the stuff and think it would turn out like the years I was a member of the NHRA. Paid the dues, but never participated. Maybe someday when things settle a bit.

Charlie- Glad everything’s OK.

Curt- I’m with the rest. Give the guy a chance. Hey, he may have reacted wrong, but I’m sure he was pretty upset about the situation. He probably just lashed out at anything and welp, there you were. I’d at least give it a shot. Better to try than to just wipe off a friend over a few misplaced words. Looks like J.R. just about covered everything I could suggest on the derailing issue.

Pizza and Collard greens. Strangely enticing.

Garry- Good luck with the Fruit. I’m sure you’ll get along fine with it once the learning curve has been rounded. Don’t know if it’s still that way or not, a lot of things have changed, but the main reason I still us a PC is because my backups and the programs I have are all Windows and I’d have to buy them again. Actually no, that’s not the main reason, but one of them anyway. The main reason is Windows is what I started with and I’ve not had a problem so I can’t bring myself to change. True.

Vincent- I’d be seeing my doctor. Could be stress you don’t realize you have ( I did a number of years ago), or you could have some sleep disorder, OR it could be girls. When in doubt, blame the girls.

J.R.- Nope. Not sorry at all. Actually, the hat thing I never really thought as a good luck thin. Just blamed a loss on it if I wasn’t wearing it. You know, better than blaming me or the car. It really had nothing to do with American Graffitti either. You have to remember back then, in the very early ’80’s the Waylon and Willie, Hank JR, Johnny Lee, Paycheck were all in their heyday or just coming down. The Urban Cowboy craze. I had worn a cowboy hat (less the plumage) prior to and during as a lot of people did back then. I just never quit. But the Good luck thing is generally true. Sometimes I’ll let one slip, because I really don’t believe in that stuff, and let‘s face it, you think it, so what‘s the difference. Jinxed it, that’s what!!! (LOL) Be safe , or like you said, have fun are the best and pretty much mean the same thing.

No idea what’s in store for today.

Wow! The site just came to a hault. I’m not going to spend all day waiting fo the smiley faces to download so, insert the appropriate smiley where you think I’d put one. (I've given a couple hints) OK, here goes nothing. Gonna click the Post button now. Sorry, what typos magically appear after that, are just gonna have to be. Not gonna click the edit button.

Pizza and Collard greens. Hmmmm. (thoughtful look)

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Glass of water, please.

***Vincent, anyone can have sleep issues. Is there something on your mind unfinished or that you recently did or will have to do that could be bothering you in any way? Eating the wrong foods near the time you want to sleep? All sorts of correctable causes. I would expect worry to be the most likely reason for younger folks. Just my 2 bits.

Some fun thunder-boomers came through early this morning. No sleeping through those house shakers.

Have a good day y'all.

Good morning all,

Regular and a grilled hard roll please. 24F and sunny out this morning. Museum went well last night as the N display had no faults after a weeks running with the new fixed ConCor couplers. Spent the evening fixing a couple of turnouts on the O gage and disassembling and requartering a Thomas for same. The Lionel version we use on the O gage is nice enough looking, but it suffers from too many plastic parts and in this case one of the drive wheels loosened up on the axel and slipped around enough to make the poor thing roll like a drunken sailor. Combine the roll with the tight radius of the turns on that section (we have three seperate runs on the O display) and the consist would bolt right off the track. Troubling trucks indeed!

Todd - i meant to reply to the good luck thing but got sidetracked before. I don't actually tell the drivers good luck out of superstition or karma avoidance or whatever though I do tell them to have fun. My superstition is to slap my hand on their helmets as I leave the car on the grid at the 1 minute warning. Been doing that for decades after watching Niki Laudas' mechanic do the same at Watkins Glen in the 60's.Old cootery indeed! I've had a series of "lucky hats" starting with the cowboy variations and transitioning to golf style when we got them free from IMSA and Camel. When we had Bud as a sponsor and then Coke we were required to wear the appropriate caps (and hatefully the Bud double knit polyester slacks as well) as part of the team gear. So the hat thing became passe. Since we now have GMT hats I mostly wear those though I still have a couple of the old golf caps in the collection. My favorite was a black "reservation hat" (black flat brim cowboy) hat I got on  my first trip through Arizona and personalized with a big Budman badge. I was allowed to wear that for parctice days but needed proper team gear for race day. Aren't you sorry you asked now?Whistling

Time to get back to it and get some shop stuff done. see y'all later, J.R.

Good Morning Gang,

yet another sleepless night, and I look exactly like what Chris is describing - a zombie. I spent the better part of the night reading through the US immigration rules and regulations, as the forum would not allow me to enter. I had a hard time to grasp the meaning behind all those rules. It seems, as if my English is not sufficient to get hold of all that stuff. I had always thought I am pretty good at it Surprise. No wonder people need legal support to help them through this process. I am afraif I can´t afford those couple of hundred bucks it´ll cost Crying

Temperatures were below freezing last night, but now it is nice and sunny outside at 14° C. Time to go for a little walk after enjoying my mug of coffee here.

You all have a good day!

Gooooooooooooooooooooood Evening,

VINCENT: Yeah, the odds of seeing those CNW hoppers in your part of BN country would probably be a bit thin. I think they mostly congregated around Mason City, Iowa which was home to a number of large cement plants; notably Lehigh Cement and Northwestern States Portland Cement. From there I think they mostly stayed "on-system." Then again, I found a BN cement hopper in Cedar Rapids from time to time, so of course, anything is possible. THAT's why there is one BN cement hopper in my fleet, and will likely be joined by at least one more at some point. Goofy me, I have to justify every car on the future layout, but THAT doesn't mean you do. I'd say, if you like it, knock one together! Plus...there is the old "it's your railroad" argument. I mean heck, I've got a Ridgely and Midland County boxcar...and THAT's Tony Koester's former fictional RR...

I'd recommend good old fashioned Testor's 1162 flat blue for the Rock Island ACF's if they're "bankruptcy blue." Failing THAT, some Floquil GN blue mixed 50/50 with white is what Herald King recommended for RI blue.

On those McKean/Front Range centerbeam's you've got. How easy/hard are they to put together? I read a review from "back in the day" THAT said those kits were a good reason to not keep a loaded gun at the workbench...Huh? Apparently they had a lot of trouble with warped floors, parts not fitting well; and a nasty tendency to literally explode after assembly! My future lumber wholesaler could use a few of them...but not sure I want the aggravation! You are my canary in the coal mine on them...Smile, Wink & Grin

As for sleep issues...I think any age is "normal" for THAT. Stress, anxiety, caffiene intake...can all mess up a sleep pattern. In my late teens/early 20s, I had a lot of all-night sessions getting crap done for school, work, etc. At one point, I was up for several days straight, living on caffiene, nicotene, and crap food from the college snack bar. The girl I was dating at the time finally had had enough of my zombie-like state. I had stopped seeing colors...everything was gray-tone, like the world had turned into a black and white movie. She forced me to go home and to bed...to sleep. While I was initially disappointed MischiefI was out like a light for two days solid. I've found a sleep pattern can be "re-set" in as little as two to three days. One OTC (over the counter) remedy THAT helps, is diphenhydramine, or Benydryl. Wally-Mart sells it in generic form both as an allergy med, and as a sleep aid.

OK, I've bent VINCENT's ear long enough...poor guy, maybe listening to me prattle-on will put him to sleep!

 Hello Folks , I'm Back!

Flo, no I don't need another Beer, took 6 of them just to get on the site! SoapBox

Tonight was the slowest I have seen the site s far, I wonder if Bombay Bob VI is in charge of it? Bang Head

Work Front While I could not have worked Monday if I was told there was No One To Cover My Store and It Would Be Closed Monday I would have got Sue to drive me to work so I could put up a sign!

Dang, the site locked up again, Bombay VII ?

I will give more details on other items Wednesday and hopefully the site will be moving a little better.

Guess I am wasting my money on a 16 gig internet right now with the site.

Hey guys

Package containing my GN airslide, and my 2 RI ACFs showed up today. Gonna have to make a run downtown sometime to pick up some light blue paint to match the detail parts stuff on the ACFs. Might put together the airslide in the next few days.

Finally got a MAF on my car that works with the 30lbs injectors. The ducting work is kind of rednecked. After the rubber elbow, I put a short lenght of 3" diameter aluminum tubing. After that is an ABS (black PVC) 3" to 4" adapter. Found out the 4" end of the adapter doesn't fit snugly over the meter (if did for the aluminum pipe). I tried using the part of the factory rubber ducting since it did fit the MAF. Ended up cutting enough off of it to fit over the MAF tube; but it was still not snug. Wound up wraping a bunch of electrical tape around that rubber piece I cut of the factory piece. lo and behold it works fine. It's only temporary until I can order some actual adapters.

Is 21 too young to be having sleep issuses? I haven't been able to sleep right for days. Last night I fell right asleep at around 10:30. Woke up around 2-3, but couldn't get back to sleep... Been tired as a dog all day; but that kind of sleep pattern has been going on for about a week now.

Chris, That puts those hoppers at the very end of my modeling era (77-87). Dunno the odds of seeing them on the BN; much less the western portion (I like the western portion better)

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Today I painted three gondola loads, put up another billboard, built up a foundation around the north engine house and cleaned some more track. Also went with my father to see my mother at the hospital. We had lunch while we were there. Pizza and collard greens. How wild is that? She's being sent back to the nursing home tomorrow.
