Good Morning,

as you folks over the Big Pond have changed to DST, we now have moved closer together by one hour ... Whistling. We will move forward our clocks by 1 hour in two weeks time. As usual, Europe is a little late.

Zoe, I´ll have a Sunday breakfast, a stack of pancakes, eggs, sausages, buttered toast and a mug of coffee, please.

I am glad for each night the telephone is not ringing and I have to grab my go-bag. I still don´t sleep well - can´t remember sleeping through a whole night for ages now. Petra tells me I am showing signs of wear and I seem to be aging more rapidly.Although I still dream of moving over the Big Pond to more friendly territories, I don´t think I will be able to cope physically with such a move anymore - sigh!

Ray - with all the "hot" items you are working on, having a fire extinguisher handy seems to be a good thing Smile, Wink & Grin

Ken - I am not really losing interest in model railroading, it is just that I cannot concentrate on it enough to actually do something. My "benchwork" needs a coat of paint and I could start to lay some track, but as sonn as I pull myself together to start doing something, my mind wanders off. I even don´t have the nerve to leaf through some old MR copies. I am sure that this "paralysis" will eventually go away.

Barry - some 20 years ago, my parents toured Canada and actually met the person , for whom my father intended to work for in your town. My dad told me his name then, but I have forgotten it. My parents never regretted not having emigrated to Canada, as things improved quite a bit during the late 1950´s. Leaving your country toting along three little kids is not easy...

I am still shocked by the pictures and reports we get from Japan. I am just glad that earthquakes and tsunamis are hardly known in my area.

Y´ all have a good Sunday!

Evenin' folks!

Flo just a cup of decaf for me tonight.  I'll go sit in the back and just relax for a bit.

I decided yesterday to put away the engine house for a while until I get some more info, parts, and a more or less clean place to work on it.  Right at the moment my workbench is a pile of little tiny parts, excess trimming from cutting wood, tools, paint, stain, little cups I use for glue and other things, a soldering iron or two, the leftovers of several projects from a while ago that I don't want to throw away but have no where to store....  So (A needle pulling thread), I decided to clean the blasted old piano frame that is my workbench and create some places to put things when not in use.

I have gone from this yesterday:

To this, this evening:

Still have a lot to do, but when I am finished, I may actually be able to find someplace to w*rk on the bench and not spend all my time looking for STUFF!

The photos I have been seeing of the quake and aftermath in Japan just grab my heart strings.  I have all of the people who have connections to those who have been confronted with this in my prayers!  Barry, glad your sister and BIL are safe.  Very thankful my sister headed out last week for a trip to Mexico and not Japan.......!!!

Blessings and prayers for all of you folks!

 Evening Dinners!

Flo, I will pick up Ulrich tap and I will have a brew, with a frosted Monon Mug. Big Smile

High Light's of the day. Again a odd day at work, slow most of the morning, dead from 12:00 to 3:00, got swamped between 3:00 and 4:45 and last customer left a 5:20 then nothing till closing. Sure glad I am staying that extra hour! Whistling Still was a good day with $3940.00 in new business.

The owner Barry now talks to me like he values my ideas. (not that he ever talked to me like I was a idiot) We are going to get rid of the $2,000 to $3,500 mattress sets so I can get more affordable sets in the store. Average earnings of people in Belleville IL (where my store is) is only $24,000.00 per year. I don't need $3,000 mattress taking up what little floor spaces I have.

Something I never have done before! This is the first time I have had 3 paychecks sitting on my desk and I still not broke. If it was not for the Bank of Dump Butts I would be in fair shape.

JR I could not get the link to work. Said it could not find the topic. Could you try again, or do a copy and paste and PM it to me. I really like to read it and see if there something I can use when I am talking with them!

Rob Hope they are the kind you need and you are more than welcome.

Ulrich Glad your mother is resting comfortably and I hope she gets to the point they can do the operation. Far as losing interest in MRR I getting there my self. I have been in the hobby now for 6 years, that is a long time to hold my interest. Most side hobbies (not counting HP cars) last about 3 years. Then they sit of the back burner for a few years.

If I had $1,000.00 I did not need and could spend anyway I want, I don't think I buy anything MRR related. I pretty much have all the engines I want, and have more rolling stock than I can use. Only engines I sort of would like to have is a T-1, Q 2. H-8 and a Yellowstone. Unlike when I got started and I daydreamed all the time about a Big Boy, the above are not that way. That was one of the reason I was hoping to build the new layout, to rekindle the fire in the boiler.

Well I will see you all Sunday.

Coffee in a  AT&SF  mug, please.

The pics from the devastation in Japan are mind boggling. That pic of containers looks like someone's big box full of models. Yikes!

***Ken, the jumpers arrived today. Thank You, much appreciated. I'll put them towards my (N) wiring, unless the wife needs them first.Hmm

Jeff, is that a new design for the Midland Gulf? Maybe I've just not seen that design in a while, but it looks good great! YeahThumbs Up Now that you mentioned that third blade, I do recall something (last summer?) you said about that.

Any mention of the three blade deck would have been two or three years ago as it was already on the junk heap last year. The Midland Gulf decal you refer to is a design I've been using for some years now but my printer could never do it justice. I sent the design to Lee and he printed some up for me. They came out better than I had hoped. Thanks again Lee.

Evenin', Janie, I'll have a bowl of chili with grated cheese and some crackers, with a RBF to wash it down. Thanks!

Ken, it's not been your day, from the sound of it. Good that you have somebody who'll w**k with you about the repairs (you were talking about repairs, right?). Hope the repair bill winds up being the lesser of the possibilities for you. Angel

Ulrich, hope you don't need to grab your "go-bag" anytime soon. As for the difference in the delivery speeds, is the delivery in Germany by mail and the country-to-country by major delivery companies (FedX, BigBrownUPS, etc.)? I know if I buy something in this country and they ship by mail (but not Priority Mail), it takes longer. I had one shipment by the newer 'combined' (ships by FedX to St. Louis, and then by U.S. Mail from St. Louis to Cape) that took longer than when Walthers used the same combination on a different shipment. Of course, now that I think of it, I think my slower shipment was that 'Bay seller that lost one (of my 3) purchase(s) in their warehouse. I try NOT to recall that (other than to ignore their auctions now...). Anyway, keeping you and the rest of your family in mind and AngelAngel

Barry, keep those 'classic' photos of the towns and RR's coming! Thumbs Up And hope the next few 'dumping' storms miss your area; you've had plenty already of that white stuff this season. Yeah - And if Ulrich's parents had decided to come over way back when, they'd all be up to their keisters in the white stuff there with you! Whistling Man, that shot of the container yard almost looked too clean - are you sure it wasn't done with models? The pics I'd seen so far (could've missed a bunch) showed pretty dark and dirty water coming in...

Todd, I hope at least you got a few chuckles from watching those junior high kids at the dance. [chuckle!]...Ah, as I think of how silly I was at that age... Laugh

Jeff, is that a new design for the Midland Gulf? Maybe I've just not seen that design in a while, but it looks good great! YeahThumbs Up Now that you mentioned that third blade, I do recall something (last summer?) you said about that.

Welcome to the Diner, Alvie (Cats-think-well-of...)! What's your layout/plans-for-same like? Fill us in, please. Smile

Galaxy - good to hear that at least your pain is down some from the new shots (vs. older treatment) for your back.

Todd - Chocolate cream and Strawberry cream filled Twinkies? Oh, sacrilege!...Surprise Well, so long as they don't put strawberry AND chocolate filling in them. Laugh Speaking of sugar rushes, tell us tomorrow how your junior high dance (aka cat-herding) duty was. Whistling

Hey, Rob, good to hear your layout's making progress. As you said, you can repent later of whatever you build now on the scenery, right? Smile, Wink & Grin Seriously, good to hear somebody else is moving things along. Thumbs Up

Couple of calls out today, nothing taking reediculous amounts of time. I'll be heading home to catch some Zzz's (and to set my clocks forward...). Hopefully, I'll check back in tomorrow afternoon (after church and lunch).

Blessings and a good night's sleep (even an hour short...),

Goooood afternoon...

Chloe, I'll have a giant rib dinner and RBF please...

Ulrich: That might have changed a few things if that happened..my parents had a temporary split when my father came here to establish a household here..then I came with my mother a few months later. Actually my father did have the idea of moving us to northern Saskatchewan...I think that might have changed a few things with me....I wonder if you would have set up a yacht builder here...mmmmm...Confused

Todd:  It was a scary thing here...My BIL told us that their house was completely destroyed by the tsunami that hit Sendai...they were out of town when it happened..I was just lucky that they were at some friends of mine at the time I called there...

I'm having a real quiet day today...for a change..wonder how long that will last...Confused

I'm now in the process of getting at least some of the pics unto my PB  account...Mischief

As for MR stuff I have decided that I was not going to redo Exceda Wye yard and instead I'm going to add another couple of tracks to the Williston end ...I actually have more space there..Whistling

I'll be at the window booth for a bit here...DinnerSmile, Wink & Grin

Worked a bit more on the bridge. It's still rough of course, but coming along. Would post a picture, but it's time to head off to the FFA's Prime Rib dinner. Then we'll rush back to set up for the dance.

Possibly tomorrow I'll post a picture of the bridge.

Got the parents yard mowed today. That clover is some tough stuff. It had grown up in high dense clumps that often needed two or three hits from different directions. The yard looks much better now.

Good Afternoon All,

Just stopping in for a quick coffee and a sit. Spent the morning at the museum taking the safety exam to qualify for yard w..ker and visit a bit. Didn't take any of the crew or operator exams as I just don't have the spare time to do those jobs (though someday I'd like to qualify as an engineer). Brought the 44tonner oil radiator back to the shop and welded it back up so we can get cracking on the locomotive now that we can see it again through the snow drifts (just a bit of an exageration - we could see it but it was surrounded by massive drifts).

The rest of the day here will be tidying up the shop where my area is.

Ken - interesting article on "your" bank and it's practices here if you haven't seen it yet. http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/real-estate/bofa-offers-to-help-fix-mortgages-if-youre-a-state they just don't miss a trick.

Time to get back to it, I'll see you all later and hopefully catch up on news.   J.R.

Trying to finalize the canyon area of my (N) layout before gluing track down. I have no idea how much of the landscape will look. Just winging it. Might pay for this later but I'm through waiting and want more progress.Whistling

Hey fellas. Had a GREAT time at Winterjam, although I'm now broke for the rest of the month. Took my $10 there to buy Red's new CD, and what do ya know, it was $10. I put the rest of my money (23 cents) in the collection bucket. Good new sis I have a lot of projects on the layout I can work on without buying anything else. I'll just have to get the kick in the rear to get them done.

Good Afternoon,

it´s been a dull day, as Barry would say. Although there has been a scent of spring in the air, I spent the better part of it in front of the idiot box, watching the coverage on the Japan earthquake and the explosion in the Fukushima nuclear power station. Still not in the mood for MRRing - I must be seriously ill.

Janie, coffee in my JNR mug and a slice of that cherry crumble pie, please.

I see a few new faces here in the Diner - a belated Welcome from this end of the Big Pond!

Called my parents a couple of times, just to find out how they are doing. My Mom is sleeping most of the time, which is good. My Dad is happy to have her with him, but changed his mind on moving into an assisted living facilitiy. I was afraid of this happening, but there is nothing I can do about it. Adds to my worries!

Ken - I hope things work out for you with the Bank of (fill in according to your likes). I am still not over losing my house - I steel feel pretty miserable about it.

Ray - how on earth can you handle such tiny parts? My fingers are way too big and shaky to do such a job. Bow

Barry - come to think of it, my parents had the passage booked to Canada, to London in Ontario to be precise. My father had a job offer there in 1956. My parents decided not to go when I showed up...

Well, time to move on - have a good one!

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this sunny Saturday other then we will spring ahead in time tonight..That means warm weather and railfan season is drawing nigh in fact we suppose to see some low 50s this coming week..I can't wait to dump my cabin fever..Of course there is a sad time to this..My fishing fever flairs up and there's nothing I can do about it because I'm still not able to tie knots-not even a granny knot.I found out I can bait a hook now-I used a artificial worm to see where I stand..I will do some dry land casting with a casting plug so I won't lose my casting accuracy..

I shall have a cup and look over da forum.

Have a good'un!

Those twinkies sound good! They'll not be in any health food section I know of.  Seriously, I highly recommend coconut milk, I'll take it over cow's milk, except it's not good for cooking when some recipes call for cream.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a couple of those Bavarian Creme filled doughnuts and a cup of dark roast coffee, some real cream for it as well.

Got about an inch or so of flaky, wet, white stuff last night.  Has all disappeared this morning.  The lake in the neighbor's lawn across the street has gone down as well.  Only about half his front lawn is now under water (this happens every time we get heavy rain).  Today will be more of the same...  A few flakes then some rain, and back and forth.  Right now it is 38°F outside and cloudy.  May get up to 45°F today.

I decided last night THAT since I spend most of my hobby time looking for stuff rather than actually w*rking on anything, it was time to get better organized.  I have run out of places to keep the parts, tools, paints, and everything else, so it just sits on the workbench in my way.  So, I am using some pegboard to expand the space i need to hang small tools, supplies, etc.  photos by tonight (I hope).

Prayers for all those suffering due to yesterday's events around the Pacific Basin!  Hope you have a great day!  (And stay away from that "Health Food" stuff...  THAT'll kill ya!)

Morning all

My back has a "kink" in it form the shots so is tender. But seems the routine pain I used to get after teh shots that practically crippled me for a week are far less since the tumors came out. I guess that is a good sign.

Relaxing day today, although I HAVE to get the kitchen sink cleared out and run the dishwasher and maybe do a load or two of laundry while MOH is at work. Then I have to figure out what is for dinner.

Sad news about Japan and apparently more damage in Hawaii than first expected, so much so the govenor declared the state a disaster area to qualify for Fed. funding and help. That will eat into their tourist trade this year unless they get back on track quickly. At least tehy had some warning and time to evacuate to higher places. Although we would maybe like to transfer to living there someday, glad we aren't there now! ANd we would definitely like to go back and visit- maybe this time to maui. I think the big island is out due to Kilawea erupting so heavily.

Paid some bils yesterday, a pain, but at least we had the money to do so!

The "safe Driver 6 hour course" is up for renewal in April, so need to contact AARP about the course,,,they charge less and MOH is over 50 as a member, and I am listed as spouse/partnered  member, so I have my membership too. They are supposed to be cheaper than the $60 the SOuthern Tier Driving School WAS charging 3 years ago. It saves us 10% on insurance and I think we broke even on but like MOH says "I want it on our insurance to get that discount and any other discounts it may get us for having the SAfe Driver Course under our belts" I agree. The hard part is to sit for 6 hours as theere is no getting aorund the fact that it IS a 6 hour course and there's no getting out of it as state inspectors may be present. Most people it seems take it to get points removed from their licenses, but we have no points to deduct as we ARE safe drivers who obey the traffic laws!. Of ocurse we can save a whole $5 IF we take it online, but I'll be darned if I gonna sit in front of the computer for 6 hours! ANd they do make sure everyone who takes the course in the classroom passes the test if they manage to stay the whole 6 hours, whereas a computer error could be recorded, I'd hate to fail if I missed something half asslep and buggy-eyed after sitting at eh 'puter for 6 hours!

Nothing else new I guess.

Have a GREAT day!

Flo, baked oatmeal w/blueberries and coconut milk please (if y'all never tried it, check out the health food section sometime and buy some, it's awesome).

This weekend looks to the be the following: whip my house into shape for my families arrival tomorrow after their Caribbean cruise, oh yes I'm a bit jealous they had been down there for a week and I've been in the Northeast, but I had work, a course I didn't want to miss, and house-sitting to do so it's been good for me.

I saved $895 when I found out I didn't have to pay an additional fee to my school when registering for the last of my courses, so yes I am real thrilled about that :)

I'm debating on spending $100 or so to bid on a set of six Spectrum HW passenger cars in N&W. They're not to accurate for N&W, but I don't care, in my eyes they'll look just fine effect wise. And hey, if some onlooker doesn't like it, they can pay the bill to buy the brass, resin, or scratch-built cars :)

Oh Todd sounds like you're in for quite a fun time tonight Smile I hope that goes well.

Enjoy the weekend if you can.

Good morning. It's 53° and cloudy. The high will be 74° with periods of sunshine.

Not much on the schedule today. I need to go down and back the tractor out of the barn and inflate the tires to the proper pressure then possibly get some grass cut. It's a big yard so it would take a while. I'm not sure if my back is up for that long of a rough ride.

Good Morning!! Coffee and a cinnamon roll please. Thank you.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 52.

Didn’t do much yesterday until w**k. About noon I got extremely tired and then went to my chair for a wee bit of a nap. THAT didn't work well with the sinus drainage and all. This morning, though I did sleep in until 7, I’m feeling tired already.Sleep

Barry- Another 14”???!!! My gosh, if I ever talk of moving to London, somebody hit me. Seriously, I’m glad to hear your Sister and BIL are OK.

Today, I need to finish the bash of the bridge, then some touch up, need to make a couple more pillars I think. What I need is two abutments. Might set wood blocks as temporary, but if I use it, I may need something more secure I think. Something tells me I will have trouble with this bridge as far as operating on it.

Today also is the 4H Prime Rib dinner so we will attend that at about 4:30. You need to get there early so you get the best slices. Then I, like a stooge, volunteered to take money and chaperone the Junior High Dance put on by the Foundation tonightSad. Why oh why, do I engage my mouth before my brain. THINK Todd, THINK! Bang Head Oh well, it’s for a good cause I suppose. Separate the little future Wards of the State from their money. Too bad it’s probably their parents that are paying their way for entertainment. The way I see it, they are over the age of counterability. That means they are old enough to see over a counter, so they are old enough to be working for their spending money. So what are they doing there when they should be out working. Just my My 2 Cents

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Chamomile tea, please.

***Lee, I can actually see those critters in your pics. How about a pickup truck nearby with the lid open and squirrel nests all around the engine which needs new wiring thanks to those squirrels desire to chew? (Just like one of them did to our dually pickup truck years ago which we then sold.MischiefLaugh)

***Jim, didn't need to ask him. That wire was all full of cracks and sitting in a minor water puddle right at the entrance to the falling apart well house door. Will need to replace that little door this summer. No more putting it off another year this time around.Whistling The wire he replaced it with was a fraction of the size and what he said it should have. That was something my wife's dad had rewired long before his stroke, so it could also be plugged into a generator during power outages.

Well, it's been 10 minutes since I took the dose of pulsed mino and can go back to sleep now. Glad that part of treatment is only every other day. Later! Sleep Rob

Good Morning Folks,

did not catch much sleep last night - the worries about my Mom keep me awake. There is a little suitcase packed and ready, should the telephone ring...

I have no major plans for this weekend. My mind is not set on any MRR activities for the time being, but I hope this will come back soon. I am still waiting for the delivery of the track and the powerpack I ordere about a month ago. Funny - it takes 4 days for a delivery out of Japan (not now anymore, sigh), but 4 weeks within Germany.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the people of Japan, who, once again, have to fight the challenges of nature.

Chloe, I´ll go for a weekend special breakfast with all the works - coffee, scrambled eggs, crisp bacon, cakes from the griddle, maple syrup and a tall glass of OJ, please.

Have a good weekend!

Flo, beer and lots of it!

 Today Sucked!

Was going to drive the Daytona to work. Keyword is Was! Backed the car out of the drive and started out. Car has a transmission leak, and need a quart about ever 7 days. Felt like it was slipping, so I pulled over about 300 feet from home to put a quart in. Went to start the car and starter would not engage. Pushed on the floor shifter and it seemed like it was in park, tried for neutral and the shifter did not feel right.

Shifter cable has gone bad again, replaced it about 2 to 3 years ago. Worst part is while trying to push the POS back to my house I must have hurt my left foot, top of it hurts like a son of a gun tonight. Plus the last thing I need is a repair bill. Tow is $63.00, cable $55.00 (if it is the cable and not the shifter it self) and I am guessing 1 hour labor at $93.00 a hour for a total around $211.00.

While $211.00 for a repair bill is not that bad, I am trying to make a $1,878.00 house payment on the 15th. Bang Head At lease Bob will work with me on paying him, he is a friend.

Well I am done, Flow 6 pack to go please.

                         Ken
