Jeff, good to hear that you got the Peerless going okay (especially with all that rain you've been having - I'm sure the grass has been slurping it down and getting an early start on the growing! By the way, do you have a bush-hogging attachment on that?

It's got a heavy gauge 46" (2 blades) belly mower. We used to have a 60" belly mower for it but the part of the deck that held the bearing mount for the center blade (3 blades) rusted out. If you're wondering what this tractor looks like just think of a large MTD on steroids.

Evening, Chloe - I'll have a CAW mug of hot cocoa and a chocolate chip cookie, please. Thank you. Dinner

Jim, i checked the Amish sites last night.  didn't really tell me much.  i think I need to wait until my friend and mentor  gets back from Florida and see what he can come up with.  He has drawn 100's of RR buildings and I'm sure can advise me on the roof structure.

Ray, at first I thought you were pulling my leg about 'Amish websites', given their avoidance of electrical devices, but then I realized you meant sites about the Amish, rather than run by them. That reminded me of a Robin Williams routine/clip about "The Amish website - the TRUTH about barn-raising!"...Laugh

(And just in case there might be any Amish people peeking in the window here, I mean no disrespect...)Oops

Robby, sent you a PM. I'm sure you are appreciating the weather in NC better than what you'd been having in PA the past couple of months. Hope you get things lined out soon enough.

Rob, glad you didn't have the place go up in smoke (along with the indoor plumbing). Wow Did the pump guy say what the cause of the problem was?

Jeff, good to hear that you got the Peerless going okay (especially with all that rain you've been having - I'm sure the grass has been slurping it down and getting an early start on the growing! By the way, do you have a bush-hogging attachment on that?

I'll kick back at the Rivet Counter here, (since I suspect I may hit TOP, and want to appreciate my snack before I have to go back and start warshing dishes, eh, Todd?)...

[edit] Well, I see that I have the TOP, so Ulrich and all you late-night chowhounds, eats are on me!

Blessings (and a good night's rest, as well as receding waters for those in Japan and along the Pacific Rim),

Well, the old Peerless tractor is up and running. I put a new battery in it this morning then went home to rest as my back was killing me. I went back this afternoon and checked everything out. Oil - fine, gas - fine, electrical - fine, drive - fine. I turned the key and the old beast roared to life amid a thin cloud of black and blue smoke on the third crank. Not unusual as some oil seeps into the cylinders during the winter. I let it run for about five minutes so the alternator could top the battery up then shut it down. The tires need a bit of air but that can wait until it's out of the barn where there's plenty or room to do that. I should have the seasons first lawn mowing done by this time next week.

Mornin' everyone!  Oh!  Good Morning Jim!  Good to see you.  We were getting worried about you.

Zoe, I'll have French Toast (make it with Raisin Bread....), bacon, leave the NYS Maple Syrup bottle right here at my table, and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug, Please and Thank You!

Wow!  Prayers are sure in order for all of the people in harm's way from the major earthquake in Japan.  Glad i live on the East coast (for the moment at least).

We got another 1/4 inch of liquid sunshine yesterday.  Not much really.  Calling for another 1/2 inch for today and tonight.  So far (knocks on wooden table) no major problems in the train room from dampness.  Sun is actually out for the moment here in the Finger Lakes.

I'm waiting on some items I have ordered to arrive so I can move forward with a couple more projects.  Jim, i checked the Amish sites last night.  didn't really tell me much.  i think I need to wait until my friend and mentor  gets back from Florida and see what he can come up with.  He has drawn 100's of RR buildings and I'm sure can advise me on the roof structure.

Coffee in a SUNNY SOUTHERN mug, please.

***Lee, will check out your links tonight, when there isn't so much glare on this puter screen

***Jeffrey, thanks for posting the auto pics. They look good to me, from what I can tell. Glare on screen is really bad this time of day.

Replaced the well pump capacitor, flipped the circuit and the main 220 wire started to smoke. Ended up having the well man out to replace it, incase there was going to be more involved (other damage), not to mention none of the old wires were color coated and I don't mess with 220 stuff. Nice to have indoor plumbing once again.

That was some earthquake and subsequent tsunami. Wow!

Good Morning, Zoe, I'll have a (small) cinnamon roll and a Santa Fe mug of coffee, please. Thanks!

Lee (and our other eastern Diners), you are getting the white stuff (hate to think what Ray may be getting today, but he's used to it, right, Ray? Wink). Lee, thanks for posting the pics of your scenery w**k - I had heard of the JTT trees, but had only seen one or two photos of them. Like your caboose photo (and those suitably 'rusted' tanks, too). Thumbs Up

Galaxy, I was suspecting that the cable thing was - like most cable arrangements - having to take couple/three dozen channels you really didn't want/need, just to get the handful of ones worth watching. And if your area is like ours, there isn't any real competition to provide TV of any kind. Will be keeping your dentist trip in mind and AngelAngel. I need to set up one of those trips myself (have two lower wisdom teeth in need of removing, so the others aren't so cramped down there...). Good to hear your back is a little better than usual, at least.

With the news out of Japan today, hope Keith's place is back up the hill a ways from the ocean. Has he been in lately? Seems like I hadn't seen him around when I was last in the Diner (but maybe he was in when *I* was out...)

Todd, I haven't had any major health things lately, so I consider myself blessed in that respect. Hope your sinus headache stays gone a bit longer than usual for you.

Robby, sorry to hear you're having to wait for your tools and weathering stuff; as you said, that can help once it gets to you. Thumbs Up

After the 'w' thing at the office today, it'll be laundry time this evening, and then on-call Sat. & Sunday. Hope to see if I can get the Jordan ("Sandy Ridge School") bus done this weekend. I really wish I had some (seated) kids for inside the bus - and a driver. May leave the roof off until the last just for that possibility. Maybe I'll check the Walthers site and see if Preiser makes something suitable for riding a bus.

Sun's out today, and I think it's supposed to reach upper 50's (F) today, then lower 60's on Saturday (and then slide back down a bit on Sunday). Oh, when the weather was warmer earlier, I got started on the Edison St. Powerhouse (old Magnuson kit). Have the walls together and some initial 'brick red' color on them and the smokestack. Maybe I can get some photos taken on Saturday...

I'll be at the corner booth, thinking about that and other MRR ideas for my weekend.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Galaxy - $110 for cable? OUCH!! Black Eye They really sock it to you there, don't they? I'd definitely think twice about what you need/want in terms of channels, etc. My My 2 Cents, but that's just me... And did I read it right, that you're gonna have them microwave you? Is that safe? Whistling

Here's how it breaks down:

Basic cable {19 channels} is $6, extended cable {another 58 channels] is $65, internet is $35, and $4 in "fees and taxes". We can't do without the net- MOH's job requires all info including schedules to be acessed via the computer nowadays. The basic 19 we may have to suffer with as we are thinking seriously of dropping the $65 in extended cable. Problem is-those extended channels are the ones we routinely watch- HGTV, DIscovery, History channel, Nat. Geographic, Discovery health and fitness, the 3 PBS channels we are entitled to on the upper channels, OWN, and a few others. We basically only watch a 24 hour local Time Warner cable news channel and the CNN's on the lower channels. SO if we drop back to the $6- 19 channels and net service we can save $65, but would really miss our fav channels. so we are caught between a rock and a hard place. There are 11 sports channels that come with the upper channels taht we NEVER watch, but have to have because they come with the package and cost money. Wish we could order a-la-carte! If we drop the extended cable we would almost be cutting off our noses to spite our faces as we would have little to watch.

WEll, a fun trip to the dentist today for a filling. I HATE that. The dentist is nice and gentle but for someone with TMJ problems, keeping my mouth open means headache automatically as I have to stretch those TMJ muscles to keep open. The filling is also inthe back i a bad place and I have a very small mouth, that doesn''t help either.

Had a migraine yesterday during the rain storm we got. A lot of the 17 inches of snow we just got looks like it melted off and flash flooding and flooding warnings are posted for ur areas. So far looks like it is self-contained well.

Posta b about 49* today! tehn 25* in a few days again. Roller coaster of weather this time of year. and there is always just one more major snow storm dropped on us in late March it seems, so I won't believe most snow is over til the 31. Even then we can still have snow for Easter or after, but not much in accumulation.

My back is seeming to clear up faster than usual after teh injections. Still very sore and I have to be careful about movements to not jar it, and laing down is the best rest for me.

WEll, we have banking to do today including closing an unneeded account anymore and transferring remainign balance to a new account we opened. good to put money IN rather than seeing it go OUT, but do have a bill to pay so some will be going OUT today also. Darn!

well, that's all folks, have a great day!

Good Morning,

SNOW, very wet heavy snow this morning until 10pm tonight, I guess the storm is stalled just to our east.  4” or so on the roads this morning, plowing isn’t helping at all, 5 minutes after the plow drives by, the snow covers the road.  I think we will have a total of 13” to 15” by midnight.  Tomorrow we will be back on flood watch as 40F is the predicted high.  Took me 15 minutes to clear my truck off this morning and I got all the way up to 40 mph on the roads.  Currently most of the rivers are up to 7 feet above flood stage and the area south of me is returning to swamp land.  A few roads are washed out and a couple of bridges are missing.

I was thinking about going to the Youngstown train show Sunday.  I don’t think I’ll know until Sunday morning what I’m doing.

Good Morning!! Coffee and a breakfast burrito please. Thank you.

Sunny, with a high near 53.

Boy does my head hurtDead. Sinus pressure. Hot shower will fix long enough for it to go away.

Jim- Glad you stopped in. VERY glad to know it wasn’t a health issue. This year has not been good on that front.

Yesterday I worked on my kitbash bridge some more. We’ll see how that ends up. So far so good.

Today is somewhat a semi sorta not too busy day. Must put the grocery truck away, though I don’t think there will be much to put away, then get the startup change for the Fish Fry tonight, then a few odds and ends before w**k tonight. Second year in a row I haven't been doing the fish  fries after who knows how many years.

Sounds like Prayers are needed for the Japanese, Hawaiians. Any other islands along the way and the folks living on our West Coast.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good morning.   I see my old town is getting snow while down here we will be in the high 60's!!!!!

I've put in a few more job apps, and hopefully I hear something soon.  Going to see my cousin tomorrow, so I guess I will pack up some today.    That will be fun, and maybe clear my head some.

Jim..........I left it all up in PA.  Jessica said she would mail it all out, but it will be about three boxes (big boxes).  Plus I will need the air brush.   I do wish I brought it, at least  I could've made some money.

Jeff - how's your mother doing at the nursing home? Any improvement in her memory since your first report (when it was going in and out at times)?

As far as I know her mental state hasn't improved.

Rob: Here's one of the Malibu cars I have.

Here are some Malibu's and Fresh Cherries.

A little something I did with a Fresh Cherries 1978 AMC Pacer.

These vans are also from the Malibu collection I believe. I sold off 8 of them a couple of months ago. I kept 2 or 3 for myself.

Hi Chloe, me again. I'll have a Rio Grande mug of coffee and some of that coffee cake, please 'n' thank you.

GMTRacing

Good to see Sue and Jim dropped in - need to speak to Todd about these draconian threats to fellow patrons - harumph! I ditto the need to see progress pics comment tho.

Actually, JR, Todd was polite and all when he told me - the note was from Zoe, and the kicker was that it was signed: "Zoe... (and VINNY!)" Surprise Oh, I saw you mentioned Jordan vehicle kits - did you see my note that I'm putting together their 1934 (school) bus kit? I'll post photos after I get things further along (if I like - more or less - what I wind up with).

On the social front (and I don't mean that Face-thing site), the woman with whom I'm still emailing said today that she was interested in trying to meet, so it might be another couple of weeks and we get to meet. Depending on if her kids are okay with their mother seeing guys (it has been 13 years or so since their father died, after all...). But I'm not gonna rush it if they aren't - been there, done THAT back when I was engaged a few years back (her kids were not ready then). So, some hopeful signs so far...

Oh, Todd - look for 'Inch53' for sending an email to Inch/Mike...Let me know if you don't have his email. Oh, what the heck, I'll send it to you direct, save you the time. Thumbs Up On its way to you! It'll let you check your new-fangled email setup, too. Smile, Wink & Grin

I'm with the rest of you - I would LOVE to see photos of what Sue's been doing with her (and Larry's, right?) layout. (Particularly the logging camp!) - Sue?

Need to get back to my prayer list (have been trying to find a better time than in the mornings when I have to get to - cough!...y'know... - the office thing...). Sorry to hear of (ongoing?) health problems for some of you Diners' folks; I had been hoping that one or more of them might be back home and healing up more by now. Ulrich, I hope you will do what you can, and also remember to take care of yourself and Petra as well as tending to your parents.

Jeff - how's your mother doing at the nursing home? Any improvement in her memory since your first report (when it was going in and out at times)?

Galaxy - $110 for cable? OUCH!! Black Eye They really sock it to you there, don't they? I'd definitely think twice about what you need/want in terms of channels, etc. My My 2 Cents, but that's just me... And did I read it right, that you're gonna have them microwave you? Is that safe? Whistling

Forgot who was asking about vehicles (ah, it was you, Rob), but one possible place to look would be the WIlliams Brothers cars (website is: www.williamsbrothersmodelproducts.com/cars.html ) They are clear resin castings with included metal axles, so you could paint them whatever color you'd like. I ordered some other stuff (piping fittings for a diesel fueling facility from an older RMC article), and they were quick, and if you go to the website you can see which ones you might want to order. I called to check on what I was ordering, and the guy's wife (I guess) took my order over the phone and it went out 2 days later - which may have included a weekend day or such. If you get to Chuck's Depot in Marion, IL (Garry knows where it is), Chuck has some of them, but I don't think Chuck has his website up anymore. I agree with Jeff - the Fresh Cherries or Malibu cars are good (the Malibu ones are tricky to find at Wally's place, & the Fresh Cherries sometimes are on sale in the Walthers flyer). You can repaint if you want other colors than black or blue on the F-C ones.

Lee, good to hear Dorothy's operation went well. Have you been checking on her since she got back home (or is she home yet)?

Ray - for that early 1900's rafter info, have you checked the Amish website? Whistling Or, if you have Amish settlements in your area, maybe you could ask them (but just make sketches of the construction).

Barry, your internet/mail provider isn't the same one that Todd has, is it? THAT is one of those VERY frustrating kind of things....Bang Head

Robby, sorry to hear how about Jessica and you; will keep your job hunt in my AngelAngel Do you have your stuff to do any cars for the 'Bay where you are there? I was thinking maybe you could do some of that in the evenings for some cash until things get on a more stable basis for you.

About time for me to head out for now. Hope to keep up better on things in the future in here. Seems like I have missed a bunch of happenings while I was out. Not that THAT would be new, as many pages as get posted in here daily...Oops

Blessings and prayers,

Evening,

Work was a little crazy today and wasn’t able to hop into the diner at all.

Dorothy is doing much better; she has stopped tossing her cookies every 5 minutes and is awake and crocheting/watching TV.  Thanks for all the well wishes. My 13 hours in the waiting room didn’t go to waste.  I managed to read April MR, Industries 2, Industries 3, and Done in a day.

In the last 48 hours we received almost 2” of rain, currently it’s changed to snow/sleet, and Tomorrow 12+ inches of wet snow is going to fall on us.  The county has 60 salt trucks w/plows standing by and 8 road graders.  The 68 vehicles will start plowing and salting around 0400hrs.  This is the first time the county has pulled the graders onto the highways for snow removal.  Saturday the high will be 40 and all this will melt away.  I hope work shuts down early so I don’t even have to mess with this stuff.

Jeffery, the flat car tracks great!

Glad to hear it. I had adjusted the trucks to stay on my rough track and run it about 6 months without a problem. It's well broken in.

Jeffery, the flat car tracks great!

JR What kind of time would a races prepped 2006 Viper GTSR run at Pelton? I know it is a odd question for the site.

See you all Friday, my Monday. Grumpy

Jeff - tractor battery seems the correct call. You could try one of the 33 series gell batteries they make for wheel chairs. They last a bunch longer than the normal tractor batteries and aren't too silly on price. Sears and Interstate both have them. They are deep cycle so they can be recharged numerous times. If the tractor has a high output alternator that might scuttle the deal though as they don't like charging over 13.5 volts.

I usually use a motorcycle battery on it as they tend to have a bit more kick. The alternator isn't a problem. It's just a little 15 amp job.

Jeffery Boy that was quick, I got the flat car and I am very happy with! Was it wrapped in Mummy Tape? Whistling It was a pain to open but well worth the effort. I was very pleased to see I could remove the containers and run the flat car with out a load!

You got it already? Wow! I just sent it 2 days ago and that was the absolutely cheapest way possible, $2.24 I think. Glad you like it. I thought the removable containers would get your attention. The pads the containers sit on also come off so you could [ut on an entirely different load without the pads getting in the way.

Good Afternoon All,

Getting ready to head out home. A non-productive day to be sure, but a long one just the same. Unloaded both our truck and our customers (who was two days late owing to getting towed off I-95 twice and limping into Freightliner once - Freightliner - the Charter Communication of trucking manufacturersSuper Angry) Finally fixed the truck himself, stuck EGR valve.

Got paperw..k done, parts ordered, other stuff sorted out and my desk sorta cleared. Didn't pick up a wrench all day.Bang Head

Good to see Sue and Jim dropped in - need to speak to Todd about these draconian threats to fellow patrons - harumph! I ditto the need to see progress pics comment tho.

Ken they may be stakes and not steaks indeed! Best not to pursue THAT subject too muchWhistling.

Got the rest of my stuff ordered so I'm gonna toddle off. Catch y'all later.    J.R.

 Afternoon Dinners!

Flo, you know what I want! I will take a Pitcher and a frosted Monon Mug. Big Smile

Jeffery Boy that was quick, I got the flat car and I am very happy with! Was it wrapped in Mummy Tape? Whistling It was a pain to open but well worth the effort. I was very pleased to see I could remove the containers and run the flat car with out a load!

Cederstand Got the strips mailed today, hard to forget when they are in front of the keyboard.

 Things I got done today.

Made it to the post offices and mailed Ceder stuff and the DT 400 back for another Paradise at Digitrax.

Spent 3 hours or so working on the hardship letter, budget and other things I need for Bank Of Stupid to see if they can do a loan modification. I am not holding my breath because they are infested with Idiots! Bang Head Got this month statement and while I am still $13,419.93 behind I am making headway, I was $16,000.00 behind in January. My next payment will be $1000.00 over my normal payment so I am getting there!

Sues SSI money. I need to borrow $20.00 from her today. Sealy sent me a gift card that has $150.00 on it. Went to the bank to deposit a extra $20.00 in the checking account, but card would not work? Odd part is I was able ti use it at the post offices. Anyway Sue got the 20 from her hidden case and there did not seem to be much in it. Sue had received 3 checks this month for a total of $1090.00, she only has $350.00 left after I got the $20.00? What the heck did she do with money? She did give me $120.00 for plates for the Daytona but has not paid any major bills. She has spent $500.00 that I sure cannot account for and it is only the 10th of the month! Whistling There is a reason she is no longer on my checking account! Bang Head Hum, she said she spent it on food? I sure don't see 10 pounds of stakes in the freezer.

Time to go, best wishes for all that need them.

Hi Zoe, nope - only a RBF to go, please. Thank you!

Zoe, I got your note that you sent by Todd (the one threatening to revoke my eating privileges in the Diner?...) Wow You really know how to scare a guy! Smile, Wink & Grin

As someone asked about if I'd just been busy with the ladies, I'd love to be able to blame my absence on that, but nope, t'wasn't that. Sigh I've been sidetracked with other things, only some MRR-related.

Am started on putting together the Jordan (1934) school bus, and have painted the sides and hood and seats. Going to make it for the "Sandy Ridge School" (slight computer pun there...), as I have the old Revel schoolhouse and figure one bus for the out-of-town students should be about right.

Also got another two GP-7's from a seller off the 'Bay (undec., so I can paint and letter them for the CAW). I'm gonna try my hand at chopping a low-nose on one of them. I also got a few more tubs to get more MRR stuff into some kind of container instead of out loose. Now, if I can get the general (non-MRR) clutter cleared away - need to go rent that Dewey's Dozer in the 1:1 size, methinks!

I will try to do some catching up (past half-dozen pages of posts) this evening, so I'll likely miss something.

Oh, as for the ladies, one I haven't heard from (must've scared her off) and the other I hear from once or maybe twice a week (and she may have her hands full with her triplets (all age 17) and the older son (who helps her with the family business). Not moving very quickly on that, am I?

Got together last Sat. for brunch with my buddy Mark, but wasn't able to get together with my daughter, son-in-law and their two sons. Hmmm...Bang Head

Oh yeah, they stopped the stipend for me and my former co-w**ker in crisis (Jason), so the equivalent of a $400 paycut. Luckily, the having to wait on my (lost/stolen) debit card to be replaced has slowed down or helped me to be more watchful on my spending, as I had a little left at the end of the last paycheck. Annnndddd... my federal refund arrived (YAY!); however, I will need that plus some $$ for my state tax return... Sad Ah, life...

Well, got to go, since I'm about out of lunchtime. Hopefully, more later this evening. Hope our eastern Diners have a boat and a paddle, with the weather lately.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in (soggy) Cape Girardeau

Brakie, I hope you have better luck with your system of catching trains than I do. I go to the same place around the same time on Sundays, but that is the end of any kind of consistancy. One day I will catch Norfolk Southern 15 or more times in 2 - 3 hours. Then the next week, lucky if I see two. I even starting logging them in a little notebook with times, direction and type to see if i could sense some sort of pattern, but all that did was create a lot of used paper. Still fun though.
