 Morning folks.

 Flo, coffee please.

What little good news I do have. Seems we have a new site member that lives with in 25 minutes of me. He is wanting to come by and run some trains. He is all so getting ready to start building a layout him self. Maybe he will let me help, need something to do.

Far as the job, I know that is pretty much over now.

Todd I just check my Lottery numbers and did not win. There where 2 winner's that will get $177,000,000.00 each. That sure would have brighten up my day!

Worst new's by far, I did not get my unemployment. With me being let go, I have to start a whole new unemployment claim. Worst part I don't even know if I will qualify scenes I was on a exaltation.

Man I wished I never took that job, messed up my unemployment, spent $90.00 in gas and now I cannot make the house payment.

Good Afternoon,

a somehow crazy day - the weather guessers predicted rainfall and temps up to 40 F, the rainfall came, but the temperature stayed at 32 F, turning the roads into an ice skating ring. Lotsa bad accidents. I am just glad that I did not have to go anywhere today.

Chloe, mug of hot chocolate, please, and some of those cookies out of that jar.

Todd - our thoughts will be with you and your family tomorrow!

Ken - that sucks, man! I do hope things will turn to the better soon for you.

Spend the morning doodling around with some thoughts about a layout (now you will say - not again ...). Aside from the financial issue, which may be resolved following tomorrow´s bank meeting, my biggest issue is space. The only place I can put up a layout is above my desk, which imposes a limit to length and width. The reason for this is that we need to put up one of those inflatable beds when Christian is visiting us, which happens 3 - 4 times a year, only for a night or two. Now if I would be able to change scales to the iNvisible one, I could build a layout of about 2´6" by 5´6", put it on coasters and just roll it out into the "hall" when Christian comes to see us. The other option would be to sacrifice my sofa in this room, but i`d like to keep to be able to retire for a midday nap, now and then.

Any which way, I put some ideas on paper, err - computer, based on this month´s MR HO 4 by 8 layout.

If it looks familiar to you - it is a "modernized" G & D RR.  Should ´n if I´d go for something like that, I´d relocate it to Japan in the late 1950´s - still steam era, as Japanese N scale is hard to beat in terms of prices (and it´s still narrow gauge Whistling).

Have a good day!

Good morning. It's 41° and sunny. The high will be 61° and it will be mostly sunny.

Nothing going on here today (yet). No dead birds or fish found here (yet). Plenty of corrupt political dealings going on (always). Will any layout work get done today. Maybe. For now my eyes are hurting and it's difficult to focus on the screen so I'll be on for short periods today. My blood sugar level was 79 when I checked it earlier this morning. I'd rather have it low than high so I'm not too worried about it. I finally got the 50' AHM gondola stripped, repainted and put back together but at 2.5 ounces it's somewhat lacking in weight. A scrap load with some chunks of lead thrown in will take care of that.

Ken, THAT is great!  Congratulations!!!  WowYeah

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, first off I'll pay Ken's tab this morning!  Help tide him over to the first paycheck......  Then I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sour dough toast to go along with a pot of dark roast coffee.....

Today is house cleaning/washing/start to thaw the Turkey day here.  The weather right now is a sunny 24°F outside.  May actually clean up the layout as well today while the wash is going...  Other than THAT, the only responsibility I have to do is finish writing up a Moment for Mission for Church this Sunday.  I have the one I'll be doing at the late service, but the Person in charge doesn't think it will work for the early service unless I want to get up 2 hours earlier and come and do THAT one as well.  Besides it will need to be shorter so those folks can get over to one of the local restaurants for breakfast before the other early bird churches let out and take all the seats....... (We really do need to get a sarcasm font....)

Best get a move on, I have a lot of stuff to get done today.

Later!

Good Morning All

Conradulations Ken!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this snowy Thursday morn. After much thinking I decided not to use my Unitrack since IMHO there's to much work involved making Unitrack look like ground level urban industrial track so I ordered switches, flex track and Woodland Scenics 1'x2' foam mats for slate Creek yesterday along with some odds and ends....I can faintly hear the sound of chain saws and construction equipment as they begin to clear the land.

I shall have a cup of coffee and look over da forum.

Have a good 'un!

Good Morning Gents

Java and a Muffin Please.

Thanks for the warm wishes upon my return and apparently I am still "loved" as I wasn't chased out of here the other day~ Wink

Glad to see much of the "Old Crowd" is alive and kicking .

Yes it has been a bit of a long hiatus since I graced the pages of the Forum and to tell the truth the MESS hasn't seen much of me either as not much progress on the construction has taken place though I have slowly amassed a formidable collection of Steamers. Yes life on the high seas has had to take precedent and the hobby a back seat. As to my whereabouts? From hear to the far reaches of Newfoundland and Labrador as I finally landed command of thye "Matthew", Unfortunately she's been laid up as a result of Cut Backs and whether or not I go back to her remains to be seen. Presently I have been assigned a desk and am acting Superintendent- Icebreaking Services Maritimes for the winter. And here I was hoping to get parts of it off so I could get back to the MESS for her expansion.

Pictures to follow!

Howard: I noticed there was no apple pie, seems they can't keep it on the shelf... Some things never change.

Der John: I made it to the Hobby Show back in November but as it was commented by several George was not present and the show seems to get smaller every year.

Well Gents Lunch is over!

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon, bucket of coffee please.

KEN: Hey, THAT's great news Pally!

TONY314: Thank you for your service and welcome to the Diner!

ROBBY P: I've been meaning to comment on your screwl book situmacation. The most painful experience I had was buying books for paramedic school. I wanted to figure out a way to start frothing at the mouth while exhibiting seizure behavior at the checkout as a reaction to the total. Mischief Remind me again, what major you're going toward? As has been said, you "might" be able to sell some if not all back at the end of the semester. If the screwl bookstore won't take 'em, Amazon might or even a "Half Price Books" if you have one reasonably close. I hate selling to Half Price though...they pay in pennies it seems. They really live the "buy low, sell high" philosophy. Neat pics of the suicide rail trail by the way. The trail I used to frequent goes alongside the ex-Rock Island yard in Cedar cRapids, but has always had a fence along it. It was always interesting to have a GP-7 or GP-15 lumbering right alongside. Just wait, some twit will get killed and/or maimed...and the fence will go up overnight. Of course, THAT won't do you any good if the train rocks 'n rolls right off the tracks... Life is full of risk, it's just a question of managing those risks on a personal level. Should be a good sight for some really cool photos though.

TODD: Glad the daughter's scare turned out OK...you've had more than your share of troubles lately...we're still sending the good thoughts out your way.

ULRICH: Speaking of sending out good thoughts, here's hoping the muckety-mucks at the bank smile favorably on your business plan!! No offense taken here to your "original Homeland Security" pic! I had a hearty laugh. Unfortunately, there is a very serious message to it...THAT is 100% true and undeniable... I'll stop there before I spark something we'll all regret.

Sooooooooooo, the deal is done, Mr. Boss and THAT Editor sold the papers to a newspaper magnate. Now, instead of owner/publisher/editors, they are "just" editors, but still very much my bosses. I just picked up a new boss to add to the Table of Organization. So far, so good...no changes THAT will affect me...yet. We shall see.

Have a good rest of the day everybody,

Chris

Ulrich..........They were the "originals".    Yet, you never hear them complain!!

 Robby P Custer Did!

First let me thank all of you that said Congratulation. Next let me add Charter Sucks Caboose! If it was not for there stupid services department I would have all ready been working.

I still don't have any details about the base pay or there commission rate, but I hope to be in the $40,000 + bracket again. But this year, catching up on the house is the most important thing.

I am starting Friday for what believe will be a very short training period I hope.

Tony Welcome To the dinner and the site! Tony is on his way to my house as I type. Looking forward to meeting him.

Ulrich That is a great looking plan for a 4 X 8. Far as N scale, if I cannot keep the house that will be the scale I go to. Have you thought about a layout that folds against the wall when not in use? When I was into HO Slot Cars there was a plain for one that I cannot find. When it as folded up, it looked like a book case with narrow shelf's on the bottom to display the cars on. Or in this case trains.

Hope things go Great with the coming meeting, you are a good friend!

 See you all later, Ken

Chris......I'm going for graphic design.  It starts Monday Tongue Tied.   Jessica (my wife) is going to school also, and she rents her book from her college.   It saves money, and they give her money back.   Next semester I will look into something else.   Maybe they have a "used" book sale, and I didn't know about it.   I will keep a eye out next semester.

Ken..........First on your job, congrats and hope it works out.          Next, Custer.....I agree (didn't think of that), and the other night I was playing a computer game (age of empires), which had me go against him with my army of indians.   Well a few cannons, and rifles (from my guys) he did the same thing Dead.

ROBBY P: Good luck to ya! It's a tired, but oh so true cliche', "you'll get out of it what you put into it." My wife has been doing graphic design for...longer than maybe she'd care to admit Wink She loves it. She's doing more and more web stuff with a focus on social media (which I STILL say is something you get when you go places you shouldn't and put things where they shouldn't be...Whistling) and "virtual" stuff...like "virtual classrooms" for distance edumacation. She also does more conventional graphic design w**k though, like designing the appearance of the college's athletic department team bus, the graphics for the EMS Education center's ambulance (with just a weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee bit 'o help from me...), flyers, brochures, stuff for the admissions department, etc., etc., etc.

I foolishly got a BA in graphic design (long story), but I'll defer any questions to the Wife.

One hazard though, you'll never look at a logo the same way ever again...

Back to w**k I go.....

Congradulations, Ken! I'm glad to hear your great news.

Not a whole lot going on with me. I do have some good news, though. I got my school class scedual changed, and my new teachers don't give out a whole lot of homework, so I'll be in here more often, and I'll also be able to get more of my projects done, and get them done faster.

That's all of the news from me. I guess I'll take a cheese burger Flo. I'll be sitting in the back booth, looking at what I got from Walthers I got today.

Evening all.

Robby, I guess the town could argue that "they never anticipated an increase in service." Still, I don't see service being more than a few times a week, daily at most. This is at the very end of the branch, so it is only used once the lumberyard begins receiving shipments.

CONGRATS Ken! Hope it turns out well!

Ulrich, that's funny! Laugh

Welcome Tony!

So, I got a haircut today. And it's WAY too short for my tastes. I haven't had hair this short since lacrosse season Freshman year, when our entire team was given haircuts by our teammates... Grumpy

Well, I gotta go. Hopefully I'll get something done tonight, maybe even something train related. Catch ya later!

evening all!

Went and got my Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-2 SY Mikado at Lantz's hobby shop {aka wholesaletrains.com} It is based on a chinese version, but I don't care, its a mikado. It's marked for the Susquhanna, but I don't care. {the Susquhanna river does run real close to my house, overflowed at 500 year flood levels in '06 and nearly flooded us in, but not flood us} and the Susquehanna Railroad varient actually still has a section that runs to Binghamton} ANd at $125 instead of $300 I wasn't gonna argue. It is DCC ONBoard without sound. I don;t care for sound. It was my Xmas present from my inlaws cash gift.

MOH's KATO add-on passenger/sleeper set for the KATO GG1 for it's run form AHrrisburg the NYC overnighters is shipped out today, That was MOH's present fromthe inlaws cash Xmas gift.

KEN- first you *** and moaned in a post about the job and how you knew how that went, then you turn around and post YOU GOT IT! I knew the pissing and moaning wouldn't be worth it later when you got the job! COngratulations!

AS for the Charter sucks thing, KEN---WE all got it now, you don't have to tell us anymore, we GET the picture.. CHARter Sucks....either switch to different company and get your old land line back, OR QUIT COMPLAINING! WE can't fix it for you! Galaxy congratulations on the procurement of a Mikado!

Ken many congratulations on your having a job again!

Ulrich good luck to you on your getting of a good word from the bank!

Welp, I think that's all the congratulations that are due.  Prayers still with Todd on his daughter's ordeal.  Good to hear that the operation went well.  Not going to have anything at the moment.  Will probably be getting a call here shortly to go and give the girls a bath.  Then comes putting away of laundry and doing dishes after dinner this evening with the family.

Yep, there went the call.....off to throw two children into the bath and then off to bed for them!

Later Taters!

Galaxy-Hope the Mike runs good.

Ken- congrats man, Hope this works out for ya.

Todd- Hope your daughter recovers

Well, not much from me. Who knew that with Walthers, when the product description says 'grain of wheat bulb' they mean one grain of wheat bulb. I thought it was at least 5 when I ordered. Aw, what can I do. Worst thing that happens is when I finish the station up, I find out I need more lights. Just order some more I guess. One should be enough though.

Good Evening Diners!

Ken, congratulations on the job!! You have had a tough time of it lately and it is great that you have had some good news for a change.

Fergie, I looked up the Matthew and it is a very impressive ship. I assume that you don't want to pilot a desk for too long and that youare back at the helm soon. Does give you RR time though. Seems ot me that you were collecting brass steam and I recall that you had bought a CV  2-10-4. Are you sticking with CN roads or have you branched out?

I had great intentions of going downstairs and starting the assembly of that WS dairy now that it is finally painted but I'm still upstairs and it will soon be time to hit the hay. I'm starting to sound like Todd(no offense intended, just an observation).   I was supposed to go down there and get back on that rowing machine as I'm trying to get into some sort of shape this winter. I don't have a weight problem but boy am I flabby. My plan is to increase the rowing time by 1 minute a day so that by the end of the month I am supposed to be rowing hard for a half hour. Now I will have to make up for today's laxness tomorrow. I sometimes feel like I'm in a Roman galleon against my wishes. At least no one is beating a drum for the pace.

Larry, I'm about to start on a N scale layout and I bought a circle of Unitrack but didn't like the look so I bought some Atlas code 55 and a couple of turnouts. I then bought a Micro Engineering turnout to see what I like best. I also can't decide on the roadbed, cork , WS foam or the putty stuff that PC uses. Guess I'll just experiment a little.  Any advice?

Ulrich, for my N scale layout I plan on using a 30 x 80 inch door and was thinking of a folded dogbone to get the max mainline run. A few plans I've seen also have a couple of industries and a small yard. Any ideas?  I plan on using flex track so I can't just do track planning by experiment as I did for my HO layout.  The time frame is transistion and as I have a few steamers I want to keep the radius no tighter than 11" as that is the minimum for a couple of the locos.

Well Robbie ,  the wonder Westie, now knows the names of 41 toys that he retrieves by name. I have trouble remembering them all but then again my wife says I never remember anything. Besides that is why paper was invented so you can write things down and then don't have to remember. Now where is that piece of paper?

Well the critters are at the back door again, so I'll say goodnight.
