Here's a shot of the "swaying" that was happening while the train went by.   You can see where the lumber car is one way, and the hopper is the other.    This is what you deal with when you walk here Whistling.

Also here's a shot to show you how close Jessica's job is to the "Mon line".   She here's the trains all day, and the kids also let her know.  Maybe future MRR people Big Smile.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a breakfast bagel w/ cheese and a cup of dark roast coffee to start the day.

We picked up about an inch of snow last night.  Just enough to be able to look around all the neighborhood roofs to see who doesn't have enough insulation.....

Have to finish up a bunch of things for my final Deacons Meeting tonight.  Hopefully, I will start cleaning the house as well.  The family is coming over for diner on Saturday so I need to start shoveling out now to be ready then!

Todd, it sounds like your Mother had her act together.  So often people fail to make those changes that make things much easier for the ones left behind who get to deal with it.  You and you family are in my prayers during this difficult time.

Robby, looks like THAT train has a touch of Sympathetic Vibration going on.  If you see the wheels lifting up off the track, it is time to exit the location using a route perpendicular to the direction of travel of the train........  (Or sumpin' like THAT)

Best get on with the day...

Later!

Good morning All,

Todd - I wasn't in yesterday and have just read the news. Our sympathies and prayers for you and your family. There will always be a void now but you still have the good memories and the knowledge that you did what you could when your Mom was around.

29 and mostly sunny today. Museum last night and still being harrassed by the iNvisible scale track I put down. I may break down and fit some rerailers if I can find some or at least cut out the bits of rail that diverge the most from horizontal and refit track over some thin plaster to even things out. Seems the actual base has moved over time and that is what actually started breaking the old Atlas rail off the ties. Must not have used a long enough straight edge to check when i did the replacement track.

Yesterday ws nuts and today isn't going to be much better as we have a stream of folks through here to check progress on cars with the start of the season racing at us the beginning of February. Catch y'all later,  J.R.

Good Morning! Coffee please.

Rather tired. I think I’m coming down from the last year or two of running on ……something. Today I HAVE to do the bookwork for the Church. Offering needs deposited, bills need paid and the taxes need done. Plus W-2’s need made. They may have to wait ‘til next week though.

Also today I need to start cancelling the non essentials. Mom’s phone, internet, cable, (gulp) insurance programs etc. Things like that. I also have to file the Will with the courthouse I hear so…. We’ll see what all gets done.

Jim- Sorry I didn’t say something earlier, but congratulations on the great looking new Grandson!

(SMACK!!)  Sorry Ken, you and I are still broke (unless you travelled to buy your lottery tickets.) as far as the jackpot goes. Good luck on some smaller amount though. As for me, I have another bookmark.Sigh

Well, Mom didn’t set me up financially so to speak, she just made it a whole lot easier for me to access what little funds she had to pay her final expenses, you know funeral costs, final bills, and then a little left for those surprises. I won’t have to make them go into late and wait status, or me have to try to pay what I can. I hope. (crossed fingers)

Galaxy- Prayers for your surgery to be safe and successful.

Jeff- Glad you feel good today. Enjoy it! Have you had any birds drop dead or fish pop up dead around your parts? I heard that the oddity has moved from Arkansas into parts of Louisiana.

Robby- Indifferent I second Ray’s advice. I believe he has the best course of action short of not being on that “trail” at all when a train is on the tracks.

Brenda just told me the Bank called and moved the closing for our refi up to tomorrow morn at 9am due to the funeral Friday. Another thing off my mind.

Welp, gotta get going. Running late again.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this sunny and cold Wednesday other then I made final readjustment's on Slate Creek and should start construction by February and to pass along the good news the construction start date is closer then it ever been.I packed all my equipment away yesterday so it won't be in harms way when the saw dust starts flying and its been a long road getting here.If I could work my will I would start today but, there's a few lose ends that needs done.I am getting a tad excited though. While out and about this morning I saw 1 NS manifest. No big plans for today other then catching up on my magazine reading.

I shall have a cup and look over da forum.

Have a good'un!

Ray....Todd....Jeff.........That's a good idea to get out of the way, but the bad thing is.........You have to jump a small fence and fall about 15ft to a small creek.   Still thou, I like those chances better!!   The area I took the pictures from is the most space you have to get out of the way of the train.   I was walking along the tracks and heard a horn.   Then the lights from the train, so I ran all way to the spot I got the shots.  Probably 200 yards or so.   I'm not getting smashed!

Good Afternoon Folks,

I am just back from another meeting with the TV guys. The business plan I had prepared did not only meet their liking, but also the first review by one of the banks was quite positive. Coming Friday, we will start the negotiations on how to finance at least one part of the planned venue - which means I could be back in business!

Flo, I have come to like the hot chocolate thing, care to bring me one mug of it, dear?

Todd - I am glad to hear that at least those dreadful administrative issues are off your back.

Jeff - How are you feeling today?

Ken - still no news about the job? I hate to say that, but I´d be surprised if they come back to you with an offer. I am still hoping and praying, though.

While I was searching the web for new ideas on how to build a layout with hardly any money at all, I came across this beauty:

I was stunned when finding out that it is N scale! What detail! It is a Kato Japanese D 51 Mikado and sell for a little less than $ 100 - how is that possible. (Not that I want to go Japanese these days, but ... Whistling)

Have a safe day!

Jeff- Glad you feel good today. Enjoy it! Have you had any birds drop dead or fish pop up dead around your parts? I heard that the oddity has moved from Arkansas into parts of Louisiana.

Several hundred dead birds  were found in Labarre, 30 miles northwest of Baton Rouge yesterday. "Experts" say the birds were killed by flying into power lines or being hit by vehicles. We have power lines all over the place here as well as a lot of high speed (75-85 mph even though the limit is 65) highway traffic and there are lots of birds here. Never have there been a mass amount of birds found dead near these power lines or highways. I say the "experts" explanation has more holes than a tea strainer. The birds are red-winged blackbirds, brown-headed cowbirds, grackles and starlings.

Sir Madog

Jeff - How are you feeling today?

I'm feeling just fine today.

Dead birds are tuning up elsewhere in the country. They can't ALL be flying into powerlines or lightning storms. They are examining the sick ones who haven't died yet. MAybe they can find an answer before they die.

Fish kils are showing up too, though they say "that's normal". They claim the food supply is short and the weaker fish are dying off. I'll bet our antibiotic soaps and this and that get washed and dumped into water streams may have something to do with killing off the food supply for smaller aquatic life.

First things first, Todd, I know that this is late, but my sincerest condolenses to you and yours from me and mine.  Our prayers are with you.

Good afternoon all!  Just stopping in and catching up after a fairly busy weekend.  Just a hot ham and cheese for me with maybe a few bbq flavored chips for lunch with a sweet tea to wash it all down.  Been doing some reading recently as I've found an Air Brake and Train Handling manual for CSX dated July 2004 to pour over as well as a fairly recent (2005) track plan showing the location of all of the sidings and interchanges along the CSX Dothan Subdivision.  Both of those things will help me greatly in not only my setting up of my layout, but also the operating rules and regs for the area.  I know that the track is all DTC blocks set up from Montgomery, AL to Thomasville, GA, and I also know that there are several signals along the route but the one thing that I've yet to find is a map showing the location of the signals, but I did find a signal aspect book along with the others that I've found.  All online too in PDF form so I can either download them or print them (although printing them might get me the hairy eyeball from the wife as its a HEAP of paper).  I guess I can just save the documents on the laptop or one of our USB drives and go from there.

Welp, this was supposed to have been a short post, but look at it.....its a bloody book!  Oh well.

Prayers to G on his upcoming surgery, along with Barry's friend on his continuing health issues, along with prayers of health and good spirits to everyone else.

Good late afternoon Diners:

Todd: Haven't been in to post since you told about your mother's passing.  It's good that she had a peaceful end, and had planned ahead concerning her funeral and so on. You know you are all in our prayers.Angel

CapeJim:

But it could be worse - I could have a 10-year-old WIndows laptop (which might be a whole 'nuther story).
..so you've met our museums' cataloguing computer? LOL Thanks for posting the newest grandson pics Thumbs Up

Rob: Please check you PMs, I'd like to catch tomorrow's mail-out.LOL

Well (full subject with all the recent rains!), those chicken feed silos are finished, poured concrete base pad and all. I re-made the legs because the originals had warped where the cross-bracing attached. I'd used Plastruct Plastic Weld, and the legs are evergreenscale models #273 I beam 2.5mm (so 1/10th inch). Too thin for liberal application of the weld - a light hand is required. Be warned if you ever go down that path. I used ACC for the re-build and that worked out just fine.

The signs are done using Jeff's tracing paper technique. _ Thanks Jeff, that worked like a charm!Bow

Der .. Silos look great. I've seen that loco picture before. I'm not sure where it was. India. perhaps?

Ulrich ... I hope everything goes well with the TV station plan.

Barry ... House the new device working for you? I suspect very well, but thought I would ask.

Galaxy ... Certainly will pray the surgery goes well. I recall, this has been going on for quite a while, and I think it's good if surgery corrects the problem for you. I don't recall if you told all the details. Take care.

Dead birds? It must be some politician's fault! ... We have birds killing themselves flying into our windows here. Perhaps, Congress can outlaw windows. Otherwise, birds should be required to wear air bags.

Galaxy ... Certainly will pray the surgery goes well. I recall, this has been going on for quite a while, and I think it's good if surgery corrects the problem for you. I don't recall if you told all the details. Take care.

The issues with my back have been going on seriously for about two years now. It was found that I have arthritis in my spine and that I have degenerative disc disease. ALso two MRIs showed what was possibly determined to be "necrotic tissue" {dead tissue} pockets on either side of my spine. A bigger mass of it on the left side than on the right side.

So I have been to: my regualr Dr, a nuerologist, a neurosurgeon and a general surgeon. Last October the general Surgeon went in to do a biopsy of the offending tissue to determine if it was necrotic tissue and what should be done about it, though he did not expect it to make any difference in the excrutiating pain I have in my back.

What he found when he got in there on the right side was a benign Lipoma tumor, which he carved out. He stated that perhaps it would indeed help reduce the pain I have been having as such tumors can press on nerves causing pain. But it made no difference.

Now on the 17th I go in for surgery to remove the larger mass on the left side of my spine. WE expect it to be antoher benign lipoma tumor. That may result in lesser pain, but that, too, will remain to be seen, and based on the removal of the right side tumor, I don't expect removing the left side tumor to produce any measureable results either.

I have been through serious pain killer scripts, physical therapy and massage, cortisone injections into the nerves, adn patches of Lidocaine to help with the pain. While the combos have resulted in relieving the constant pain I felt for only a matter of 10-15 minutes if I change what I am doing {standing to sitting, sitting to lying, lying to standing, after that short amount of time, the pain sets back in. Standing and walking are the real culprits. Especailly shopping on concrete floors in stores. I have been reduced to using a cane most of the time, have one for use in the house, and one in my van for use when out. I have also failed the tests miserably to pass the test to get handicapped license plates and the hangy-thingy now.

I am already on disabiltiy for a variety of health problems, this just adds to it, but I cannot do the basic household chores such as cooking anymore without sitting out for breaks. If I undload the dishwasher, I have t o wait to load it. IF I do a load of laundry, I have to wait to do the next load. Running the vaccuum ro the floor steamer is murder on me. Event teh trash is a chore's chore. DOing the dishes at  the sink requires just a slight bending of the spine to do, and that slight bending can cause me enough pain I have to sit out periods before I litterally fall over to the floor from the pain. Standing too long at the stove can also cause me to involuntarily spasm and keel over to the floor.

My Other Half {MOH} works, and so it is befalling to me to attend to most of the household chores, but functioning at them is difficult. It isn't really fair for MOH to do everything and work too, and sometime there is involuntary annimosity from MOH towards me when MOH comes home to find me lying on the couch {my most painless position} adn nto much accomplished in the way of chores that need to be done after a hard da's work. I always tell MOH that MOH did nto marry good health or money. Moneymay come someday, but my health continues to  fails as time goes by.

Thank goodness when I built my layout a few years ago I built it tall enough so that I don't have to bend over to play with it, or else I wouldn;t be able to use it.

So that is the tale of woe about my back. Now that I have bored you all, I now return you to your regularly scheduled program already in progress.....

Evenin' folks!

Janie just a decaf for me right now.  I'll go sit in the back by the stove and relax for a bit.

I am now officially relieved of duties as Moderator of Deacons at my Church.  The new members of the board will be Ordained before the end of the month and will officially take up their duties at that time.  At the end of the meeting we spend some time going around the room having each member tell any concerns they have and joys to be grateful for.  A good number tonight said it has been a pleasure to work on the board with myself and the others who will leave the official board this month.  During my tenure as Moderator the board has been dubbed the "fun" place to be as I encourage a meeting full of both the serious concerns, but also a lot of laughter.  I believe we should have fun doing the Lords work!  Made me feel good.... I will miss being on the Board with the bunch of "crazies" we have become.  But...  I know there are other opportunities to serve.

Galaxy, I hope the countdown to your surgery goes quickly and the removal of the other tumor helps your pain!  You are in my prayers for a successful surgery and a quick recovery.

I too have been reading about those birds falling out of the sky New Years....   I guess I better get out my Tin Foil Hat!   Remember!  "It is as bad as you think, and they are out to get you!!!"  Actually I guess I'll wait to see what comes up in the toxicology tests and what ever else they can find  before I go off the deep end..........

MY JOB!

The whistle I cannot blow.

It's not my job to say how fast,

It's not my job to throw the switch,
nor even ring the bell,

But let the dam% thing jump the track,
Just see who catches He!!"

Hope all of you have a great night!

I saw the articles about the 'fallen birds'...seems that the 'most logical' theory so far is that 'professional grade fireworks' were let off by someone in the vicinity of the  roost and scared the birds off into a tizzy...because they see rather poorly at night they just flew into windows and other objects ...

....but that is only the Arkansas ones...others?.....

Evening all.  Just a bowl of gumbo and a sweet tea please.  Might partake of a RBF to wash it all down later.  W*rk was pretty slow tonight didn't do a whole lot of anything.  Glad to be off for the evening.  Did look around a little at some trackside pictures from the Dothan Subdivision.  Looks like once I cross the AL/GA border I can get some unit coal train action going, which is pretty spiffy since there is a Georgia Pacific paper plant near Saffold that apparently accepts unit coal?  Not 100% sure what a paper plant needs with 100+ coal cars, but what the hey!  Its a coal train!  Still need to do some more checking out of things along the rails (bing or google maps, or even mapquest will be my best friend for this) so I can get a better idea of what I "can" and what I "can't" model.

I think I'll sit here at the RC for a bit and look over the track plan I've been able to get online and see what I can come up with.

Evening all.

Very late night. We had a game tonight (lost again, 4-3) and I didn't get home till 8:30. Then I had to shower and do homework and stuff. Not really time to read, so I just skimmed posts.

Robby, I'm confused... What were you saying was a waste of money?

As you guys can see, the tracks in that photo I shared from before the rehab were in VERY poor shape. For those interested, here's a bunch of shots (not mine) from before, during, and after the rehab project:

Well, it's very late, and I'm still not caught up on sleep, so I better get out of here.

I’m way behind posts.  My daughter Samantha came out for a visit this week so things have been a little crazy around here.  She and I ran trains yesterday for a little while; she always enjoyed the passenger trains so she ran the B&O F3 units around the layout for a while then we hit the stores for some shopping.  Prior to her visit I spent about 24 hours rebuilding the Fox Creek Jct. area on my layout.  Isolating turnouts, installing new feeder wires, and replacing 3 worn out turnouts. FC tower controls 8 turnouts in a 26” space on the layout.

I’ll be in the back sipping on coffee and trying to catch up on posts.

Good Morning...

I'm having to take Audrey to her Doctors to get her yearly done...

We also have to FIND a couple of pliers that I THOUGHT I left on my workbench...no where's to be seen...  I do seem to lose things in here on a regular basis...Bang Head...

There is a few headbanging issues that showed up on my Exceda Wye Interchange...two switches have decided to not work...right in the middle of an operating session... ...which, of course only added to the fun... ...so I guess I'll just have some more redoing of the switches...again...Mischief

Oh well, I guess this is part of the fun....

Flo, I'll have a coffee and a toasted bagel with cream cheese please, I'll be sitting at the window booth watchng the sun rise..

Any argument carried far enough will end up in Semantics--Hartz's law of rhetoric Emerald. Leemer and Southern The route of the Sceptre Express Barry

I just started my blog site...more stuff to come...

Good morning.   Looks like we have some "white stuff" coming today, tonight, and tomorrow.   Several inches are expected.

Not much planned for me today.  Maybe see what I can get into around the house.   I do have a hopper I can finish.  Its only been sitting on the workbench a few weeks now Whistling.

Joe.....Just how the city/RR spends money like its water.   You have track right beside some roads, that they know isn't safe.   Kinda like.."why waste the money".

 Have a good morning guys.

Good Morning! Coffee please. And lots of it thank you. Hm. Whaddaya know, coffee came out with both e‘s this time. Should be a good day.

Way-yull. Just as I thought my Bonzai runs to the horse piddle were over, got a call while at the Church yesterday afternoon about my daughter and bleeding and doctors and trashcan half full of blood and emergency surgery all gleened from a frantic wife's crying conversation sending me into another mad dash to the same place we had come from just two dasy earlier. Luckily, she is fine and the surgery was done as an outpatient and she is home doing well. All I could think of earlier was “what else can happen this week.”

Today for me is a quick trip to Springfield to sign the papers for the Refinance of the house. The Bank moved it forward a day because of the funeral tomorrow. This way we can get it done while Brenda is off work for this week and she won’t have to take another day off next week. Then I’ll meet with the Preacher and talk about Mom for his services tomorrow. Then come home and…..there was something other than give the dog a treat that I had to do before getting ready to go to the Funeral home at 3. Gee I guess that means a departure time of 2:30. Wow. Gonna be here before you know it.

I think this bird and fish thing is because their brains are so tiny, that they are susceptible to the waves the government is sending out to spy on and listen to our cell phone conversations. That, along with the ever increasing amount of tracking chips they are secretly putting in people these days, (rumor has it these “free” flu shots they are pushing contain these micro tracking chips) that the air is just becoming to “charged” for the tiny brains to survive all the microwaves and such bombarding us. Soon the politicians will follow. As for me, I have an Armadillo hat so, I will be safe. Tin foil works well also for a short time. Always carry some in your pocket for protection and cover your head at the FIRST sign of a headache. Especially when outdoors. You cannot be too prepared these days.

Well trash people just took the trash and seeing as how it is the windiest morning of the week (of course) I must collect the trash cans before they blow into the next county.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!
