Jerry, AWESOME BL2 man! Well yesterday was an on-the-move day. But the important thing about it is I GOT MY RESTRICTED LICENSE! I actually drove up to my bank by myself today and deposited a check in my savings account etc, and also went by Food Lion to get a snack, and later I'm driving my sis to the volleyball game. It feels so weird to be driving by myself though.

 Afternoon AZ

Flo, just a Diet Dew to go, cleaning up the garage.

Morgan Looking forward to seeing your ideas as well.

Cleaning out under the 9.5 X 5 K-10 Mining bench. Boy it is a mess! Starting to find some train stuff I will be offering up later as well. Finally my Kadee uncoupling magnets I missed placed 4 years ago! Does not say much for my organizational skills does it.

Far as the Garage Sizes Nothing is built, bought or really planed yet so not a big deal.

Vincent, Found a shipping box for your Auto Rack. I have yet to look up the Ham's car yet. I will let you know.

  Back to the cleaning.

Afternoon guys

WEll the wholesaletrains.com  package arrived and I dutifully signed my life away that I did indeed receive it! Oh, but I can't touch it til xmas day...I wonder what my other half got me? I gave lots of ideas, and one I think I'm gonna order anyway as I know didn't order...different company and no order was place with my CC there. I'm ususally nto a peeker...but .....of course all I have to do is looka t teh order confirmation form wholesaletrains.com sent to my email addy cuse we used my account-all info already there-But I promised I wouldn;t peek. Oh, but, MY!

I ordered what I think will fit the concor passenger cars and others I got in the PRR scheme for my other half to run behind the GG1. oH...trucks with couplers that is. I ordered from Con COr...we will see. HAd to call in my order as they DO NOT HAVE A SECURED PAGE FOR CREDIT CARDS when ordering! Be forwarned! PAy attention to SECURE pages for CC info as christmas draws near!!! I needed new knuckle couplers at least some to make double ended cars for the rapido couplers on one end and the knuckle to connect to the knuckle on the GG1. COuld take up to 3 weeks for it to happen. I also ordered a freebie pair of N scale lock Jaw coupler trucks without the wheel sets...I have those already. anybody interested here is a link:

http://www.con-cor.com/CouplerConversions.html

It is for one free pair about a thord way down you will see the flashing "Free" on the left side and a whole section about the free truck/coupler Rigid  Jaw FOR N SCALE ONLY! {I will have to see if they have one freeoffer for HO or not}

More packages {three I think whoo hoo!} arrive tomorrow!   Music"It's beginning to look a lot  like Christmas" with every package I get Music Whistling

Afternoon guys!

Kyle: I'd strongly reccomend Wet transfer decals. I;ve heard similar horror stories.

Ken & Madog: Actually, two layouts doe not have to be all that crowded. My suggestion (and I'll get a plan up later I hope) would be to set the upper plan as a picnhed loop. Stick the mine up there, and run the lower section through it. Use the railyard on one wall as a junction yard bewtween two railroads (really the upper and lower tracks) and launch maybe a third shortline off to go serve the Grain Mill. As for stations, you can easily fit three stations on methinks.

Been making progress on a layout website, will be getting that up sometime this weekend I hope!

Vincent, not sure how tall you are, but try 3’ x 4’ modular’s at a rail height of 41”  This is what I built and I can reach over no problem except for the corners; I made those 4’ by 4’ to handle the 36”, 38.5”, and 41” curves.

Flo, just a cup of orange juice and a banana...I'm headed to the gym shortly.

70K in ten years? try 145K in 7! My 2003 Honda Element has just over 145,000 miles on it. Aside from some belts, new tires and regular services, she runs great. The window motor burned out though. It's currently inoperable. The only real side affect to that is no drive through service, which isn't really a bad thing.

I painted my first stripped shell, and attempted to letter it. I had some serious trouble with the dry transfer decals. I just couldn't get them to transfer cleanly without breaking, or staying put while I attempted to rub them. Was rather frustrating, and resulted in sketchy results. I moved on to the numbers, and really didn't have much luck. I think I'm going to strip it and attempt the maneuver again. Any tips?

I also realized why I love railroading...it's the HISTORY! Even though I model modern equipment, and roads...I love watching fallen flags roll by my house (just watched a Wisconsin Central hopper roll by) and then reading about it's history, and lineage. Amazing to me.

Is Wal-Mart the downfall of western civilization?

Well - it is quite a long list and it´ll mean that the layout will be pretty cramped with track, with only little left for a nice scenery. You know I am absolutely in favor of a less is more philosophy when it comes to track plans.

Any which way, let me have those dimensions and I see what I can do!

WEll, interesting.

I ordered a new Bachmann EZCommand DCC set with and Undec. 0-6-0 steamer that I will decal to B&O and some track from wholesaletrains.com and. It will go under the xmas tree to contorl that layout. It came without a hitch, and although I was here to take the delivery, I was not required to sign for it.

Now my other half has ordered me some train items for xmas and wholesaletrains.com sent an email confirmation that the order was sent out yesterday. THis morning at 8:09 AM I get a call from UPS stating someone must be here to sign for the package between 8 AM and 7PM or it won't be delivered and a notice will be hung on the door. Not really a problem as I am here most of the day. I left at 8:25 to do some errands and returned at 10:10 with no notice on the door. My theory is that he hasn't tried to deliver it yet. BUt what puzzles me is that one order from wholesaletrains with a  loco and DCC controller in it didn't require a signature, and yet another order with {I am sure a Loco at least in it} does require a signature! {puzzled  Confused}

Of course when the package gets here, I am to pay NO ATTENTION TO IT!

There are also 2 packages form amazon.com arriving today {posta b} and I do know what is in them, I placed the Bang Head order the other night I had such problems with, but have to wait til xmas for them to be in my possession. Not a biggie.

Went to walmart, Price Chopper and CVS to pick up a script. done and home by 10:10, hope the UPS man didn't try to deliver very early!

I will have to check the tracking on the amazon.com orders to see if they are on the truck or not.

Jeffrey- you interested in the 4-i-one printer/fax/scanner/copier? send me a conversation either way!!! sO I Know.

Well TTYALLL8R

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have Eggs Benedict with my dark roast coffee this morning.  I'll be sitting at the Rivet Counter for a bit.

Doesn't look like I will finish the lawn anytime soon.....  Showers and gloomy all day, and for the next several days.  The Staples Courier Truck broke down yesterday so no delivery.  They say it will be rescheduled sometime...... Whistling

Well, I have one more month of being the Moderator for the Board of Deacons at Church.  I opened nominations for my position and the Vice Moderator and got  two of the ladies to agree to Co-Moderate the board and share the duties....  YES!  In December we usually put together gift boxes for those who are not able to get out to church or are in nursing homes to celebrate Christmas, then have a short business meeting, and then go to parishioners home for the annual party.  In January, I start the meeting, and hand it over to the new Moderators.  One of our Deacons who has been among the missing most of the last year showed up again last night..  Big smile on his face.  His 2 year long project has just been sent out and will be dedicated on November 11th. at Saint Leo University...  You can read about it here.  He is the sculptor.  Dex is also a wonderful gentleman, devout in his faith, and someone I am honored to call a friend.  I'm sure he and his wife will be going down for the dedication ceremony.

Ulrich, sure hope you have your wheels back by now.  You will be in my prayers for a great interview tomorrow!  Be well blessed!

Well (deep subject) I need to get some stuff done... Like the wash.  May get to play a bit with the layout today as well.  I do have a couple of errands to run and may stack a bit more of the woodpile if the rain holds off...

Later!

Ulrich, sorry to hear your car is in disrepair. Just curious, is this a car you just got and is it a newer car? (galaxy seems to be having fits with his new KIA)

Nope, not new - nearly 10 years old, but only 70k miles on it. Should be good for some more years of service - I hope!

Hey guys

Not much going on today. Found something odd about my car last night and this morning. Going over speed bumps kicks my "low coolant" light on, but it'll go off when the front end is off the bump. Guess I'm borderlining on low on the fluid?

I'm kicking around the idea of doing a modular layout based on the WI&M (Washington, Idaho, and Montana) when it was under BN ownership. I think if I use several 2x8 modules I could make it work; but getting 24" radiuses and maintianing the look of Idaho might be a bit tricky.

Rob, looking good as usual.

Ulrich, sorry to hear your car is in disrepair. Just curious, is this a car you just got and is it a newer car? (galaxy seems to be having fits with his new KIA)

Ken, I model in the late 70s to mid 80s so open and closed sides (the other autorack the offer) are fine for me. Some of the totally enclosed ones starting appearing in the mid 80s. DRGW is fine for me too since it interchanged and had some joint trackage with the BN. One of the hobby shops around here does that. Although he'll leave them at MSRP for several years (heck, I'd bet he still has that DCC ready BN GP20 he got in 2006 for $125, I can get a sound equiped one from trainworld for $5 more).

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Todd, I would watch for a sale on the Grass Master; $265.00 each is pretty steep, I got mine at $132.00 on sale through Micro-Mark. My next big purchase is an over the top shop creeper.  Right now they are $200+ but I hope to find one at Harbor Town Freight a little cheaper than that.

Robby, I’ve been making various covered loads, stacked lumber, and crates.   The scrap loads I’ve been making and painting have been “kit bashed” from out of production scrap loads.  I’ll be making my own positives to create a negative mold.  My current skill level allows me to make some very detailed copies but to sell them I need to have my own creations to copy.  I will also need to find some casting rubber that I can buy in bulk.  Once I get established I can turnout 25 to 50 castings every 45 minutes.  My girlfriend likes painting them and offered to run the table at the shows.

Galaxy, I think you might find in the long run a new or “new to you” refrigerator will be cheaper than a door replacement.  I would look around and see what you come up with.

Good morning. It's 51 and sunny. The high will be 67. I have the heater on low this morning just to take the chill off. We have cooler weather coming in so I have to go down to my parent's place later and drain the pool pump. I don't know of anything else outside that requires my attention so maybe I'll have a few hours to rub together so I can work on rerouting the layout wiring. Seems like every time I'm about to start something else comes up. Oh yeah, there is one more outside job. Put new antifreeze in the van. Should take about 10 minutes.

 Mourning AZ!

Flo, I am on the run this mourning so a English Muffin with ham and cheese and a large Diet Dew to go.

Todd I trade you a New Year One Trunk Matt and a set of 70 valve covers for the Pearl's Big Smile I am sort of kidding (jump on it in a heart beat if he says yes).Whistling I don't think I have ever had Pear Beer, I just like the color of the cars, and the fact they are Beer cars. I do have a Blatz Beer Car, it was my Dad's Brew, only thing nastier is Stag Beer. Ick! I don't rate PBR much higher either.Whistling

Ulrich First thanks for offering to help with the new plans. Later today I need to do a scale drawing of the garage (I am thinking it is wider that 20 foot) so you know what we are working with. All so the buildings and business I have like the Coal Mine and Grain Elevator. Plus a Big Engine Repair Shop, has 6 stalls and will sallow my Big Boy and still has room.

What I have to have, or not worth building.

1 4 Main lines ( I want to run 4 trains and not worry about them hitting each other.

2 One or two of the mains elevated so I can have bridges. I am thinking between 4 to 6 inches in height.

3 Room to park 4 to 6 trains with around 20 50 foot cars.

4 Small town Passenger Station that will hold 2 E's and 10 short passenger cars.

5 My mine and grain elevator

6 36 down to 26 inch turns of the mains.

Would be nice but not have to have's.

1 Room for my engine house and parking for around 30 cars and 10 engines

 2 Room for small town

3 Few team track off the mains

 Boy I want a lot don't I. Big Smile

Here is one I was playing with today. Remember it is nothing more than a doddle. I am open to anything at this point.

This one is based on the storage room being taken out. You will understand better when I get the drawing of the garage and door locations drawing done.

Got to do the running, see you all later.

Good Morning! Rather chilly out. Coffee please. Thank you.

Lee- Been thinking about the grass master. I like the way it makes things look. It’ll be a bit before I need one though should I decide to.

Ulrich- I can’t believe it. Well, if it happened to me I would. Of all times to get a delay in the repair, a day before the big interview.

Forgot what else I was gonna say so I guess I’ll just shag on out of here. Lotsa stuff to do before w**k at 5.

Good rainy morning.

Thanks for the comments on the boxcar, hopefully it will bring me some $$$$$$.  Jessica is wondering if we have the right prices on these cars.  I have them from $30 to $75.  Only two cars are at $75.   I have several for $50.  I rather have a mix of prices than just "sky high" prices.   Also she was wanting to put the cars in a same price range on the table, and I rather have it mixed.   I guess we will see what works,  The show is in a week and a half, and I still have a little bit left to do.

Good Morning,

Galaxy, I glued mine back in place on the old refrigerator.  Kids spilled water and the seal fell off the bottom of the door.  I used clamps and rain gutter adhesive (silver stuff in a tube) $2 at Home Depot or Lowes.  You have to put enough tape on the bottom of the refrigerator so the magnetic seal doesn’t stick and rip the gasket off before the glue dries.  You can also buy a less stinky adhesive from an appliance store for $10 a tube.

The problem is the magnet has separated from and come out of the and the "vinyl holder" for the magnet has shreded like. The two have come apart, not just the whole assemblage separated from the door. It leaves a gap between the door and the outside on the very bottom of the door no less, hard to get to.In order to work on it, the freezer door on top must also come off. Mold and mildew grows there at the open spot that i periodically have to use the shark hand held steamer to get it off... EEEWWW. I am gonna look up online ot see what a new refer door costs, if I can find parts the refer is at least 12 years old... Manufactured 05/98. The gasket part is $65 and change plus S&H and tax and such. {NY state requires sales tax be collected on internet sales}. The front door panel is $208. and change for that we could almost by a half a whole new refer! I just don't know how to change the entire seal gasket without ruining it.

howmus

Feels good to sit and relax for a few minutes.  Galaxy, sometimes I wish I had a quarter of the energy I once had.......  I did manage to do more of the lawn before lunch.  Put it away with lots of battery left figuring I would finish it later today.  I also late this afternoon did stack about 3 wheelbarrow loads of firewood and decided I should take a break....  Ended up printing off the materials for Deacons tonight, making a few phone calls and I think fell asleep in my computer chair for a few minutes....  THAT was my day!

That's still more energy than I have RAY. I often have grandios ideas that require huge amounts of energy but wouldn't have the stamina or backless-strain-painfree to do so. I'd have to stack 5-10 pieces of wood, sit and take a 5-10 min breather, then rinse and repeat until my back could do no more then go lie down to rest the aching back. I go back in two monhts to have the other side of my back done-the other tumor the MRI shows is there removed. SO I will be out for the count for awhile.

that's annoying - had a reply all done and when I pushed the reply button I got the AOL sorry display. Seems to be happening a lot lately.

49 and rainy here. I'll try to drop in later and retry a post when I calm down (I know I should have cut and pasted from somewhere else but I'm not sure that would have helped in this instance and this is the first time I've had the entire post just vanish).   CUL, J.R.

Robby, again another outstanding job on that boxcar.

The NOCH GrasMaster arrived yesterday and I took it to the club layout for a trial run.  WOW even the rivet counters liked the finished product.  I plan on stopping at LHS and pick up some more static grass and doing some work on the home layout.  I bought more mold making compound and I’m working up some original scrap and box loads for the layout.  If they turn out well I may start casting my own line of loads and sell them at the train shows in 2011.

High of 49F today, 40F Friday with rain showers, 38F Saturday with Lake Effect Snow showers estimated 1” of accumulation by the end of the day, then 46F Sunday.

Some coffee and a sausage biscuit w/ cheese side of strawberry jam please.

Hope everyone has a great day!  The weatherman says, we might get some flakes of snow tomorrow.

As my car repair takes a little longer at the garage, I had them take me home. It´ll be ready at 3 pm, so I have some extra spare time Smile

Ken - I did fiddle around with some ideas for a layout in your 19´ by 20´ space. Here is what I came up with:

Minimum radius is 36"

This layout offers ample opportunity to let your big locos parade through some nice scenery, but is has a lot of operation potential with that yard.

I call it Ken´s Tehachapi Layout

Hope you like it!

Good Morning,

a ra*ny day, with lots of Umbrella and Storm. Way too warm as well for the season, with temps "hovering" at 50+ F. Not my kind of weather.

Zoe, just a coffee, as I have to get going in a few moments.

I need to take my car to the garage for some minor repairs, which will amount to a pretty amount of $$$ in total. I really don´t like that, but it is all those parts which are not covered by the warranty I have on it.

Ken - you´d like to watch long trains snake through some pretty scenery, don´t you? Well, I have a layout idea in my mind, which I will try to put on paper the next days. I will be using Atlas Code 83 track and # 6 switches.

Jerry - that´s a good looking loco!

I must be going - CUL
