Hi Brakie! Welcome!

CHRIS!! Thanks for the photo! That is the look I want for my S2. I know I know. The loco pictured ain't an S2, BUT It's close enough for my world AND has a paint scheme, approximately the same, (actually in my little world it IS the same), as the Basement Texas &Pacific. (big difference in the BT& P and the actualT&P) A plan that was devised a while back to be able to use C&NW locs with minimal talent needed to adapt. How noticable Is the difference in CNW yellow and Swamp Holly Orange to the average bystander anyway? None.

Oh yah. Sorry about the bedroom thing. Now I understand all the talk of beer around here with the remodels going on.

Goooooooooood *ow* Mornin', bucket of coffee please...

Well (NOT a deep subject), some of you may recall THAT on Friday, I declared THAT this weekend I had "no deeds to do, no promises to keep." THAT all changed yesterday... For years, the Wife has been cogitating upon the notion of relocating the bedroom from the first floor to a much larger room on the second. For years, I kept saying THAT couldn't happen because the mattress (king size) would never make it up the stairs. So, the upstairs room has been the junk/storage/Rerun's bedroom, and occasional home to "Lucky and Rerun's Virtual Junk E-porium."

But, yesterday, I made a fateful mistake I am paying dearly for today. The Wife and Rerun were sitting out on the porch. I asked her "how serious are you about moving the bedroom?" She said very serious. I said a whole lot of stuff would have to be moved to make it happen. She flew off the porch like her pretty tail end was on fire. What followed was a long afternoon/evening of relocating "stuff." Then came the acid test: moving the mattress. It just barely made it up the stairs (halfway up the stairs take a 90 degree turn, there is also an odd overhang from the evil cat's apartment to contend with). From there, it was all downhill.

Today is a Menard's run for closet stuff, and I will be remodeling/reconfiguring the closet into something useable for clothing. So far, it has been a place to stack boxes and packing materials.

Oh joy. Oh rapture.

But, the Wife is happy...and that's what really matters...right???

JERRY: Thanks for the kind words on the DPM buildings! Right now, they're in the "3-foot" category...they look good from 3-feet away. A little w**k, some rehab on 'em, and they'd look really good. I just won't have any place to use 'em on the future layout. As for THAT ICG geep...my gut tells me it was either a late-model GP-9 or a GP-18.

***update*** I just found a CC&P roster, it says THAT is a GP-18, built in 1960, and used as a "B"-unit. The Chicago Central also had a black one with the old IC diamond on the cab THAT showed up in Cedar Rapids too.

BRAKIE: Good morning sir, welcome to the Diner! I've been following your words of wisdom throughout these forums for a few years now.

ROBBY P: Good looking sign! I have no doubt you're in for a successful day with the weathered cars. There are some real "hacks" out there...you're not one of 'em.

CUDA KEN: I use AVG anti-virus (free edition), and Super Anti-Spy Ware (free edition) and have not had any issues with 'em while using Firefox. I also got a freebie called "Crap Cleaner" THAT does a nice clean-up job.

Onward I go... the Wife is ready for the Menard's run, I think...

A good, SAFE day to all!

Good afternoon folks:

Had a pleasant surprise yesterday evening. A phone call from Teffy in Texas!  Turns out he's been looking in the window on the odd occasion. Didn't see anyone he recognized from the Coffee Shop. I told him the ones I remembered from those days - I guess in the times he looked in none of those were on that page. He asked after Spacemouse (Is that you Jeff? - I told him about your re-build anyway.  IIRC Teffy dropped off because of pressure of work-beyond-retirement. Long story short, he's not doing that anymore. However, has not touched his layout in 2 years. He gave me his email address, and I've sent him links to some of my Photobucket albums- those should bore him senseless! If he drops in, give him a big Hello!

Ray: If I may add to, and possibly refine  your English as the cause of death ( and answer Ken's question).

6) The Scots eat deep fried Mars Bars and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

7) The English eat Yorkshire pudding, fatty roast beef with dumplings, roast potatoes and lashings of greasy gravy; followed by Sticky Treacle pudding - and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

Ergo, it's not speaking English, per se which is the culprit; but speaking English with American spelling and accent! Devil

Morgan:

NERM: Here's what I took away from my readings of the 5th of November. It's for the Brits what Cinco de Mayo is for us (and the Mexicans, but mostly us): A largely pointless Holiday celebrating something rather trivial compared to other holidays of historic events) except that serves as an excuse to drink LOTS of Beer AND play with fire AND SHOOT OFF BIG EXLPLOSIONS.

Did I get that about right?

...I agree about the "any excuse for a loud, bright and hot party" reasoning. There's a possible further and deeper cultural reason why commemoration of this particular fracas has survived. The time of year it happened is associated with death, and has been in our cultural roots for something well over 6000 years!  That train, like any other, doesn't stop on a dime.Snail

Galaxy:

NOw I was talking about the cold and snow heading down from Canada. At least we sent you ONLY RAIN and wind NOT cold and snow!!! And the cold you have is your own so there {rasberry} Stick out tongue
Don't forget that the lake effect snow you get in uper NY is from water evaporated EXCLUSIVELY from the lake your side of the border! Canadians don't export their water.Mischief Also, Kris says to mention that we in Nova Scotia get the Alberta Clippers, what you guys get are Montana ClippersClown  On changing the clocks, one is on the clock/barometer presentation set I mentioned the other day. Fixing it with the new movement involved mrr supplies in two ways. First, the new hands are brass finish, and needed to be black to show on the brass finish face. So, mrr black acrylic followed by a spray of dull coat to fix it. Then one of the four screw mounting holes for the frame the glass sits in was drilled skewed at the factory (must have been hand drilled, wouldn't have happened on a jig). The screw head was toasted getting the thing out to get at the old movement. So to put it back, the mrr pin, vise small drill bit and an Atlas screw from their surface-mount control switches were put to use. Yeah

BRAKIE: Welcome! It's been a while since you were in, hasn't it? Any layout pics?

Getting close to lunch time here. Today it's pork chop casserole followed by plum pie and custard. A break in the weather may make an after lunch walk possible - I sure hope so.Umbrella

Good Morning! Dark roast coffee please and a big ole Happy Standard Time Day! Sorry, no card. Maybe next year. Besides, I’m a Daylight Savings guy.

Got the laundry room floor laid yesterday as well as a few odds and ends. Then had to stop early for a Grandson Anthony's 3rd B-day party. (grump) Not that I was grumped at the grandsons party, but because it was at Chuck-E-CheeseConfused. AND I had to stop for Chuck-E-CheeseGrumpy. If you are not familiar with this horribly over priced establishment, it’s a pizza joint for kids. They have Jungle Jim things and games galore you pay to play with tokens and win tickets to trade in for trinket junk. Little kids love it. I..., well, I despise the place. You almost die from the noise, the parents let the kids just go bazerk, however THAT's spelled, and I just sit in a booth trying to choke down some of the ab-so-lute WORST pizza I’ve ever eatenDead. Fun times to be had at Chuck-E-Cheese. Today the bathroom floor and YEAH except for grouting, all the floors are laid.

Chris- Doubt Pearl will be in your future. Lone Star, well it depends. The distributors dropped it here several years ago and then recently in Peoria. The lady in Peoria said it was difficult to get it when they did. Seems Lone Star didn’t send regular shipments when ordered as is the normal procedure. You got whatever they sent, whenever they decided to send it regardless how many times you contacted saying, "when will I get it" To which they respond, "it's scheduled on the next truck. 50/50 chance of that. I’m sure it had to do with sales in the area. (kinda makes me wonder if thekind folks at Lone Star would make good on their promise to drop off a couple cases whenever I ask at the Love's truck stop if ever that becomes legal. Dang Mafia) She said (lady at the distributorship in Peoria) they always sold out fast, but getting it was a crap shoot. Same story here in Spfld. Again, not in Texas, and sales quantity. Good as I say? (chuckle) well, I tend to like the beers that are the, um, shall we say, “less refined” beers. Such as, Hamm’s, when we could get it, Falstaff, when they made it, Old Milwaukee, Milwaukee’s best , Stag, ummmm, of course Lone Star and Pearl, and then there's my usual standby, good ol Pabst Blue Ribbon. In order of prference, my choices are, 1 Free, 2 Cheap, and 3 Cold. OH! You mean brands. (chuckle) Lone Star, Falstaff (gone now), Pabst, Pearl, Old Mil. For a high falootin’ beer I like the Shiner brands Bock and the Blonde isn’t bad if they don’t have any of the above listed fav’s. As you can tell I don’t spend a terrible large amount of time in bars. To find a beer I like that is available in the establishment is difficult at best. ( I know, you ask “not all bars carry PBR?” Odd but they don’tHuh?) And I don’t care to pay 2.5 to 3.5 United States dollars for a beer that tastes like, to me, what all American beers taste like to Ulrich. I can wait and buy from 60cents to a dollar a can/bottle the good stuff at the store.

Robby- I’ll chime in with G here. I don’t think you will have much of a problem selling your work. Your prices are not over the top and the work you do is far superior to most others within that price range. Most weathered cars I see at local train shows here, appear to have just a dusting of some color I can’t describe other than possibly a dull dark grey or maybe Grimy Black airbrushed evenly over the entire car so as to give all the cars the same toned down, flat appearance. In my opinion, they don’t look weathered, as much as they appear coated with a light spray of say……., grimy black. For your saking price you are getting not only weathering due to well, weather, but other of railroads little incidents such as scrapes, scratches, and of course, rust. I think you will do well. Of course the one thing you cannot control is the audience. You never know what someone can or is willing to spend on a car regardless of what has been done to it or how well it is done. Should you not sell out, you always know you can reach those who spend a bit more on the bay. But, with a show that size I think sufficient people will be there to make packing up a lot quicker each nightCoolThumbs Up.

Surprise WOWZERS! Look how long I’ve talked. Gee WHIZ!

Well, I must get a move on I have things to do today as I mentioned earlier. Muuuuuch earlier. I’m going to try and surprise Brenda in a few hours with a trip into Springfield when we go see Mom. Well, the trip to Spfld won’t be the surprise, but the stop at the IHOP oughta get her bloomers in a bunch! I should be rated as the number one husband. Man I’m good to that woman. Of course she’s pretty darn good to me.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes other then I went to the hobby shop yesterday morning and picked up my 2 Athearn fantasy CR GP60Ms.Both units are smooth and quiet runners-no Athearn BB whine even when tested at high speed on my 6' test track..

I was mildly surprise that the shop was fairly crowded and notice many was piling up their purchases on the show cases-just like years ago when a trip to the hobby shop on Saturday morning was a ritual.

I shall have a cup and look over the forum.

Have a good'un!

Speaking of turning you clocks back.......The neighbor didn't!!!  She needs a new muffler and everyday I hear her start her car (6:15am), and I heard he this morning about 5:15 am.   About 10 minutes later I hear her turn it off Laugh.

Here's the website for the train show  www.greenbergshows.com

They told me this is the biggest show they have.   About 7,000+ people will show up, over two days.   I will be located at the entrance of the train layouts.   The show is at the Monroeville Convention Center.    We are planning on leaving early Saturday morning.   They say you can leave your stuff, but I am taking the powders and cars with me both days.

I have 24 cars going with me, a Bachmann DCC system, and misc. items.  Along 60 sample packs of powders....35 individual powders....and 12 big pack of powders.

I should have enough.   I'm still debating to get one or two more cars.

No serious work on the layout this morning. I'm going out to lunch with my sister later and I don't want to get committed to a project or problem that can't wait. There will be plenty of time for it after lunch. Still have lots of cables and individual wires to clear. After that I'll have to go through and use my multimeter to see what wire goes to what rail. Wouldn't want the hot rail to be on the left in one block and on the right in the next block. The DCC system wouldn't like that! What complicates it is that the feeder wires in each block aren't standard. One block may have a black wire and a green wire and the next block could have a red wire and a blue wire. I pretty much used whatever scrap wire I had laying around at the time. There was a time that I had very little or no income after my disabilities got so bad I could no longer work as my hands and legs don't always do what they're told (been disabled for many years but worked as best I could). Until I got my SS started my family had been paying my bills and any stuff for the railroad was whatever I could find free somewhere or had something to trade for it. So I had plenty of wire but in a whole bunch of different colors. This time I'm trying to standardize the wiring. I'm using green and white for the buss wires. Nor will the buss wires be the length of the entire track but only the length of the block they're under. So block 1 will have it's own set of buss wires that will get their power from the control panel. At the end of block 1 the block wires will stop. There will be a short gap of 1 to 2 inches then the buss wires for block 2 will start. The feeder wires for each block will connect to the buss wires every 4 to 6 feet. I'll have to take this slowly as my damaged nerves will start my hands to shaking after a while. I wouldn't want to accidentally cut the wrong wire or drop the cutters altogether because the muscles in my fingers spasmed. So the #1 rule of the project is going to be to take it slow and easy. I may get the track rewired in a couple of days or it may take a few weeks. It depends on how much my problems let me do. Hopefully I can knock most of it out in a week or two.

Morning!

Hope you turned your clocks back for those who do!Got an extra hour of sleep and didn't use it! woke up anyway! WIll take a nap later though. ALso woke up wiht a major charley horse cramp in my right calf. Both calves have been doing tha lately. Online it says potassium and magnesium help wiht that, but I find it is not helping as I have added the supplements to my medications at night. will have to ask Dr if any meds i take do that....I even take a strong muscle relaxer {for my back} and that doesn't help. I also take a leg cramp pill at night, but it wears offf IF it does any good after 4 hours. Dunno.

Robby P.

Galaxy......... I hope it goes good for me.  That's my biggest concern.

Robby- Your products are FAR SUPERIOR to what he had available! YOu should do well, I think! Like Sawyer passing his driver's test...you will pass with flying colors!

Robby- SWELL sign too!

Robby-Tell me more about this show...where is it, when, link to a web site for it, admission cost, etc. Maybe WE will come and see what is what!

jeffrey-wimberly

I'm trying not to overdo it this time. I just work for a bit, usually 15-20 minutes then rest a bit, say 30-45 minutes.

SOunds like me anymore. Unload the dishwasher and sit for an hour, then load it with dirty. tehn sit for an hour, THen get up and roll it to sink to connect it and run it. TG the washer/dryer have time lengths between runs alread "built in". Ineed to steam the back floor by teh wacher/dryer but have to do it in 3 parts- vaccuum rugs and floors, then rest. then use steam mop to clean floor, then rest. THen put rugs back and rest. The steam mop is push down and forward to make steam, and pull up back to release...taht actually sounds easy but is really hard work and the mop has to substitute as my cane while I do it.

Fireman- AngelAngel for the wife. I ddn't bother to ask which one of you at the Syr show layout was "fireman" as I don't really "know" you form the forum here and there were lots of people there when I was by. Sorry.

Oh. man, am I gonna be in trouble tomorrow morning when I try to get out of bed....  Just spent all day out at the museum cutting, splitting, and stacking wood.  I already have some back muscles talking back to me and can barely move my hands....  6 Hours of running chain saw and rolling rounds over to the splitter.  Two of us did several face cords today.  Well anyway, the wood pile is finished for the year, and the splitter is back home sitting on the trailer in my drive way.

I couldn't even begin to THINK of doing all that RAY! I was hobbling around on my cane yesterday by 3hours into the train show! Speaking of which...to bad you weren't there,,,,would have loved to have seen you....

Only one clock to turn back. It's an antique Westclox LED alarm clock I got way back when I was in the army. Amazing it still works after all these years. All the other clocks and even my watch (which I hardly ever wear) reset automatically.

WE have two atomic clocks that reset auto, and the computer and tv auto. the rest, including the talking clock, have to manually change but thats ok. WE accomplished it.....

ALSO for those who change clocks they also recommend you change batteries in your CO2 and Smoke and Fire detectors now too! We did, did you?

Well, I think I have bored you all enough this morning - I know SO early for galaxy to bother us {puts back of hand to forehead}.....

When in Doubt Blame Charter seems to have been RIGHT! Big Smile  Just uninstalled the Anti Virus (Called F-Securities and I am not making that up)! Computer is now moving fine again! I wounder what the F stood for? Laugh

Even got the garage drawing uploaded to my Photo Bucket account.

Good, seems to posted as a bigger picture this time. Now for the tour so to speak.

At the very top, I subtracted approximately 3 inches to clear the braces and tracks of the garage door.

Left side starting at the 10 foot mark. That is where my window A/C unit is located. I marked out a 3 X 3 section so I can get to the A/C unit for when it needs work. I am thinking of doing a lift out hatch so I can get to the A/C or build that section extra strong If I have to get on the bench.

Bottom left side. Small box is my wall mounted breaker box, and big 3 X 3 section is my up right 100 gallon Air Compressor, I all so have a 3 foot wide walkway by the breaker box.

Bottom Right is the door that goes to the patio.

Left side 8 squares up is part of the dressing room that was in the garage when I bought the house. House has a in ground pool and that section was for guest to change in. I ripped out most of it when I bought the house so I could have my desk there. It will not come down due to having electrical connections (wall socket and light switch) in it.

Left starting starting at the 13 foot mark. That is the door that goes into the kitchen. As long as the door can be opened to 60 degrees I am fine with it.

This is with the storage room removed.

What I did not show is my desk It can be moved. Where it currently sitting is right where the small ends. Right front corner of the desk touches the end of the small wall. Desk it self is 5 foot by 30 inches.

Well there is the run down and looking forward to ideas. If you like real pictures I be happy to post them.

Now that the computer is happy again I think I will play with the RTS program some more.

 Sing along with me.

Charter Suck's, Charter Suck's, everyone that has Charter Know's they Suck!

Well, looks like it is time to either replaces or reformat the computer. Bang Head It is moving so slow it takes 10 to 15 seconds to open My Documents. Finding all the software will not be fun either. It is all over the garage, luckily with the cleaning I did I did unearth some of the CD's. Have not seen my AOL CD's for 4 or 5 years. Don't use my E Mail much but I still use it.

Part that is going to blow the most is losing a lot  of the web address I saved. I did back a lot of them on my Thump Drive when I was having problems a month ago, but not all of them. Guess I better did out the Lap top that I have files backed up on.

I can see this is going to take most of my day up. Here I was hoping to go to K-10 Model Trains for the open house.

Ulrich and Morgan I did get the drawing done of the Garage. But, I cannot get it uploaded to my Photo Bucket account. Guessing it is because of the computer problems. Grumpy Plus when I reformat, it will be gone.

Fireman I know what you are going through with your wife. My wife is disabled with back and knee problems. Sue will not get better, only worse with time. I hope your wife makes a speedy recovery.

Howmus That but a smile on my faces! Laugh I wonder how people from England fair with heart attacks.

Time Change When I cam out to the garage and fired up the POS Computer at first I thought the clock was off because of the computer problems. Guess not!

Jeffery Good chances I will keep the Athearn's I found under the bench. They where very good runners.

Going to give a last ditch effort on getting the computer back up to speed. Personally I think it is the Charter Anti Virus I downloaded. When in doubt, Blame Charter! It works for me! Big Smile

If you don't see me for a while you will know why.

OK, OK, OK, the clocks have been turned back an hour already!!!  Too bad I can turn me back about 20 or so years.......  Finally got some straight medical facts for everyone....  A friend of mine who is a college professor (he is the guy I was wo*king with all day at the museum says he discusses "Cause and Effect" in his classes, he informs his students that, "It's very clear that drinking water is fatal.  Everyone who drinks water dies...."  So in the spirit of THAT idea here is some undisputable "truths" for you folks based on some medical facts.....  WhistlingLaugh

For  those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health.  It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

 2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

 3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

 4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans..

 5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Gute Nacht mien Freunde!

DONT FORGET TO TURN BACK YOUR CLOCK AND HOUR TONIGHT - for those who turn clocks!!!!

Only one clock to turn back. It's an antique Westclox LED alarm clock I got way back when I was in the army. Amazing it still works after all these years. All the other clocks and even my watch (which I hardly ever wear) reset automatically.

Well, got the 4x8 table removed, but turns out the "simple" task I thought this would be isn't so. So now it's either go with the benchwork config still as I had it for the plan (which would cause one of the main reasons I wanted this particular layout to not happen), or compromise with myself, go for a simpler, "smaller" design, and well, change the layout plan...AGAIN! now it's going to be a 2x8 with a small shoot-off on the side. Some of the operating interest will be gone, but the ANRR is back. all will be explained later; that is, if I go through with it. Ah, decisions, decisions.

Evening guys

DONT FORGET TO TURN BACK YOUR CLOCK AND HOUR TONIGHT - for those who turn clocks!!!!

WEnt to the Syracuse show. Lots of layouts there! of ALL sizes! and ALL powers! inlcuding live steam! adn an electric kiddy rider I think 7.5 inch guage size{??}

Other half got a 4 building street European Buildings kit. Other half has german mother and so grew up every other summer in Europe riding all the passenger trains- steam, diesel, and electric and has romanticized them to no end and wants them in Nscale. DOesn't really care for American locos ecept mayb ethe acellas and the "streamiliners" of older days. That's why I got the GG1 when it was mentioned as  an american favorite-will be  great xmas present as the same Kato GG1 WAS pointed at and drooled over at the show I had to steer away from that! Also saw the cutest little trolley bus by Kato that is modern day trolley I think for Portland. I agreed to liking it very much, but we really didn't have the $125 to spend on it. I got some new code 55 N scale track in a 12.5r to hopefully run the Pennsy passenger cars I got  form a forum member to give as xmas presents to go WITH the GG1!. I also got a few new truckmounted coupler sets to repalce the rapido couplers on the passenger cars as a trail. I had aslo ordered some from COn COr as they seemed to be theonly place I could find them online. I got two sets to try my hand at it. Questions were raised about them. but fortunately other half has other N scale passenger cars that have rapidos on them that I mentioned i wanted to try and change.

Other half also pointed out several trains sets in N scale of the Zephyr the auto-car-looking-silver-thingy {i hate it, but who am I?} and the daylight nscale sets all $200-$300 + for the sets. AFter seeing me going DCC on the HO, other half is now talking DCC for Nscale only from now on. Pointed out the sets were only DC and would be $500 with DCC IF THEY EVER MAKE THEM!

For myself I only got a used cheapy B&O Cupola caboose I have been looking for forever. It has horn hook couplers so I also got a set of KDs#5 to replace them with.I aslo got  a good {I hope } set of small screwdrivers...I seem to twist tehm on the cheapy sets, but this one cheapy too. I had my eye on two RR cars, but at $25 apiece, ANd with bills to pay, I decided that like the $125 trolley buses, I'd better not spend the money. I spent $30 on the new Nscale track for a simple loop as it was.

There weren't as many dealers as I thought there would be. Got a new Bachmann catalog that while other half doesn't seem to like USA trains, there was a lot of oohs and aahs and drooling over the catalog.

ROBBY P...there was a guy there with a single table of grafitti-d cars for sale. The were, I think, supposed to be weatherd a bit too, but they looked more  used and abused rather than newly weathered and graffiti-d. I thought "geee, I know someone who can do FAR BETTER than that!!! AS we passed by 3.5 hours later on the final walk around, it appeared he hadn't sold anything. I think i saw a price tag of $25. on one car, I wasn't really interested in them no where near your quality!!! {and I HATE graffiti!}

Tired as all get out and my back is SCREAMING at me for being on my feet so long! The pain killers definitely did NOT kill pain today!

WEll, I shall check out the rest of the forum adn then see about bedtime.

Evening, Janie - just a go cup of hot cocoa, please. Thanks!

Wanted to stop by so you all wouldn't send the bloodhounds out lookin' for me. Been somewhat busy this week at w**k, and I'm on-call this weekend.

Like the new digs, and hey, guys, not to worry about the cooling - I understand (in true Arizona fashion) that Vinnie has got us a 'swamp cooler' arranged to keep the temps in here nice and comfy. Helps control the low humidity some, as well. My Dad had one for his house when he was living in the Phoenix area.

One nice thing about Arizona air is that, if you spill some beverage on your shirt and want to dry it out, just step outside the Diner for a dozen minutes or so, and it'll dry it up for you. Smile, Wink & Grin Of course, that's if a sandstorm doesn't come up on you. Wink

Got in my back issues of MR this week (still making my way through those, reading a bit at a time). Also got in the new Mac OS X version (for the 'puter that later this year, my brother dear will be sending me).

Last weekend I got the 'fairways' for my mini-golf course painted (one coat), but I'm thinking I either need another coat, or to break out the spray gun kit. Taking the paint off the fairway edges (where they have the (concrete) lips to keep your golf ball from rolling - well, easily, anyway - off of the course) went pretty well with the side of a #11 Xacto-type blade. Looked at the two Revell engine facility kits I have partially (or almost, in the one case) done, but didn't decide to get to those. Maybe I'm underwhelmed?... Whistling

About time for me to head out. Probably will be back in Monday, if I don't get in tomorrow afternoon.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Evenin' folks.......... Opens door to the diner and limps in, sits down at the rivet counter....  Janie, Decaf coffee to start with, I'll figure out what I want for supper later.....

Oh. man, am I gonna be in trouble tomorrow morning when I try to get out of bed....

Robby, I like the sign.  Good luck at the show!  Hope you sell out and have a lot of orders.

Beer....  Hm!  My favorite beer these days.  Samuel Adams and several other small New England Breweries.  However, I still prefer a good Finger Lakes Wine...... Smile, Wink & Grin

OK, if I can still stand up, I am ging to go light the wood stove as it is all of 35°F outside here...

Later!

Well I hate to say it but.........Its been snow flurrying all day!!!!!

Here's the sign/banner for the train show Jessica has been working on.  We went with the chalk board instead of the dry erase board.  Since I will be doing demos, why not a chalk board.

Good afternoon Diners: Spent the morning at a Craft Show selling calendars for our local Hysterical Society. Sold out, and have a list of back orders - so that wasn't too bad.

Jerry! Great to see you back in!

Like the N scale layout built on a door...seems like a good idea..
Isn't that what Ed in Mexico has? BTW, you've done a lot on that fiddle yard - I'd like to scenic mine too.Bow

The I have to do my civic duty and be sure the parties I want in office get there. THis is the first time everyone in NY has to use those stupid opti-scan ballot readers. Used to be old Lever pulls in a private booth you pull a lever behind a curtain that no one can see and your vote gets counted as  a number taht gets tallied. WHile it IS possible numbers can get misread, I vote for that method over a computerized system that can be manipulated or compromised. They have been shown to be compromised and manipulated. SO not looking forward to it. ALso people can see your paper ballot while you carry it around, although they are supposed to give you an envelope to conceal your ballot until you place it in the machine for tallying. Still I don't trust it! I will be SOOOOOO glad when it is over so we STOP GETTING PHONE CALLS TO SUPPORT THIS OR THAT CANDIDATE!!!!! AND MAIL FLYERS TOO! I am Independent, so they ALL COURT ME for my VOTE!
...in Canada it's graphite on dead trees with a simple X in the box of your choice. It's a great system, and the only record is your name crossed off a voters list for that polling station when you get your ballot paper. No identifiers otherwise - and no-one appears on a list of "Party Affiliation" connected to the election, so phone calls and so on are kept to a minimum - at least in this part of Nova Scotia they are.  Just an observation from north of "the land of the free."Whistling

Kyle:

I painted my first stripped shell, and attempted to letter it. I had some serious trouble with the dry transfer decals. I just couldn't get them to transfer cleanly without breaking, or staying put while I attempted to rub them. Was rather frustrating, and resulted in sketchy results. I moved on to the numbers, and really didn't have much luck. I think I'm going to strip it and attempt the maneuver again. Any tips?
Have you tried warming the transfer sheet with a hair dryer before using it? It may help.  i know you've now bought wet transfers, but in case you don't want to waste the dry, it may be worth a shotMy 2 Cents

NERM:

Color me confused on what y'all are talking about,
...It's a Brit thing, and Ulrich has the nub of it. Here's the Wikipedia version. Guy Fawkes (13 April 1570 - 31 January 1606), also known as Guido Fawkes, the name he adopted while fighting for the Spanish in the Low Countries, belonged to a group of provincial English Catholics who planned the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605.

Fawkes was born and educated in York. His father died when Fawkes was eight years old, after which his mother married a recusant Catholic. Fawkes later converted to Catholicism and left for the continent, where he fought in the Eighty Years' War on the side of Catholic Spain against Protestant Dutch reformators. He travelled to Spain to seek support for a Catholic rebellion in England but was unsuccessful. He later met Thomas Wintour, with whom he returned to England.

Wintour introduced Fawkes to Robert Catesby, who planned to assassinate King James I and restore a Catholic monarch to the throne. The plotters secured the lease to an undercroft beneath the House of Lords, and Fawkes was placed in charge of the gunpowder they stockpiled there. Prompted by the receipt of an anonymous letter, the authorities searched Westminster Palace during the early hours of 5 November, and found Fawkes guarding the explosives. Over the next few days, he was questioned and tortured, and eventually he broke. Immediately before his execution on 31 January, Fawkes jumped from the scaffold where he was to be hanged and broke his neck, thus avoiding the agony of the drawing and quartering that followed.

Fawkes became synonymous with the Gunpowder Plot, which has been commemorated in England since 5 November 1605. His effigy is burned on a bonfire, often accompanied by a firework display.

So now you know.  Aren't you truly glad you asked? Smile, Wink & Grin

Found out last yesterday while driving past the Dartmouth Sportsplex that there is a Train Show next Sat./ Sun  Kris will do her store mooching while I take in the Show. Incidentally, she MADE me go to the LHS in Halifax yesterday - OK,I'll fess up, it was to get a clock movement for the clock/barometer set she was presented by the company she worked for in Edmonton when we moved down here to Nova Scotia!  I also picked up some small gauge airplane fuel line to make a ring spacer for her mother. Saw the idea trying to buy commercial spacers at Sears a few weeks ago. They were selling 4 different gauges of that tubing, cut into about ½ inch lengths, in a pack for over $7!!!!!!!!!!!!  So, I asked for the smallest amount the LHS would sell, and they gave me about 2 ½ inches FREE! Pays to be a loyal customer.

Here's a link the gun-loving amongst us may appreciate. I've tried to set it to open in new window, but it may not, be warned.  http://www.wimp.com/fastestgunman/

Getting on towards dinner time. Don't forget the clocks tonight.

Good Afternoon All,

Just heading out the door from the shop and thought I'd get a regular to go. Spent the morning cleaning winter wheels and changing out tires for the family fleet. Fixed the rim #3 son annihilated last winter and all is balanced and well now.

Jeff - looks ambitious. I'm glad you're trying to moderate the labor as we don't want you back in the er or other dire consequences. Fewer blocks should be easier so long as you gt the wiring sussed out. It looks like you're going more for a 'round the room deal, no?

Well here's my coffee and I'm out the door. Catch Y'all later.  J.R.

JEFF: Wow. Don't know what else to say Pal...just don't (I know, probably too late) overdo it.

I'm trying not to overdo it this time. I just work for a bit, usually 15-20 minutes then rest a bit, say 30-45 minutes. I still have more wiring to clear from under the layout. ID'ing the track wires is gonna be fun. Each block has a different color combination and there are 16 blocks. In the new wiring scheme I'll be combining some blocks and cut it down to 9 or maybe as few as 6. That will still allow me to turn off an area that has a short.

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon, pot of coffee please...

TODD: My favorite beer is.............whatever YOU are pouring! Laugh I'm wondering if my "odd beers" pusher, Johncy's in Solon and North Liberty, would have/could get Pearl, Lone Star, etc. I mean, if they're as good as you say...

ULRICH: "dishwater" Now THAT had me about falling out my chair.Big Smile I've had some brews over the years THAT perhaps were made from some other form of..."gray" water...WhistlingIck!Dead Kinda late in saying this, but here too are hopes and prayers THAT the job comes through for you.

JEFF: Wow. Don't know what else to say Pal...just don't (I know, probably too late) overdo it.

KYLE: OK, I'll admit it, I had to look up Guy Fawkes...and I went to Catholic school for 11 years!

Well (NOT a deep subject), I 'spose I'd best figure out what to do today...it's already after one 'o clock, and so far all I've done is taken Rerun out for his chores.

I've cut all the layout wiring free of the control panel and I rewired the east turnout. It's the only thing wired to the control panel at this point. More to come.

Good Morning! Coffee. Draggin’ butt again this morning. Been that way for a couple days.

I always use the "quick reply" at the bottom right of the post block thing.

Wow! Is G excited or what? I’m not too keen on the paper silohuette people myself. But, for those that do, it’s fine by me.

G- I know the refridgeadeezer is on the back burner, but like....uh...someone... said. Shop for the sratch and dents. Many times the stores have scratch and dents that they discount deeply for cosmetic scaring. Saw a $600 stove at Sears with a scratch with a crease, though not too deep, but fairly good sized, along the side that usually is unseen because of the counter to the stoves left, for 200 some $. Almost bought it for Mom’s house but couldn’t do it in the end. Just me. You’re exactly right on the tv’s appearance in the store. Most times they have crappy signal strength issues and they are not adjusted well. Unfortunately that is something you won’t know until you get home. Best to err on the side of caution. Seems to me the stores would want to show off the pictures the best they can be.

Chris- Schlitz. Now there is one I can say I don’t care for.No Unless it's free.YesLaugh

Ulrich- You’re just jealous. We United Statsians stole your beer……..then perfected it! HA! Hahahahaha. ( Wink )

Jeff- Boy talk about a difference. I like the track plan. Very simple, yet…..very nice. Are you keeping the spur to the left of the engine house? I can’t tell which is the editing oopsy. To keep or not to keep, THAT is the question. {personally, I’d keep}. Also, do you think you’ll make a small yard in that area? Reason I ask this is with as many trains as you have, or should I say potential trains, you don't have many places to keep them . I know I ran into that issue with my first return to the hobby plan. I couldn’t get one train out of the way of another and had no real storage for cars to use later without constantly placing on and off the layout. You’ve been doing this waaaaaaaaay longer than I have so you probably have this already ciphered out, but just in case you have been running with plenty of room for so long you didn’t notice… thought I’d bring it up. By the way, enough room in the middle for a chair and table? OK, I see the latest picture. Doesn’t look like it. But it does look like you could at least get a chair in there for a break while you figure out just what to do next AND, you can change the settings and the filter on the AC next year without your sticks.

Ken- I don’t think so. Pearl has been petering out since the eighties. It used to be neck in neck with the National Beer of Texas, Lone Star, for most of it’s existence as the most popular beer in Texas. Their battles for number one where legendary. Pearl used to be sold nation wide and even canned beer for the troops overseas in WWII. Now it’s getting hard to find outside eastern Texas. It’d be a shame to lose itCrying. Last time I checked the closest to me was a distributor out of Little Rock Arkansas. So a road trip would have to be in order. Actually the cars I have, and assume you have too, are the Pearl /Country Club cars. Two separate beers. Pearl bought Country Club years ago. It is still around, I think, so it will work prototypically on my non prototypical world.

Fireman216- Gee, I’m glad they finally got your wife some help. I assume she is more comfortable now? Prayers for her recovery.

Well! don’t try to blowup British Parliament.

Has ANYONE heard from Keith? He just walked out of the yard and….poof! How about PC? Anybody heard? I know Ryan is busy, busy, busy and peeks in the window from time to time. (waves at window). Now that you mention it I still have some “Finger Lickin’ Rub”. Wondr what’s for dinner? HmmmmStick out tongue.

Oh look! There’s a Penguin on the tele!

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!
