Lunchtime!

Zoe, a burger and a salad, please - add a RBF to it!

Guy Fawkes - the chap who wanted to blow up the British parliament in 1605 in order to re-establish the Catholic faith in Great Britain with no success. He was hanged on Jan. 31st, 1606 Whistling

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

Going to take a nap now, still tired!

Got the middle section cut out last night and I feel like I've been trying to bench press a Mack truck. The wiring comes next. I've decided to do a complete rewire of the west side of main layout. I can splice in the track wires from the east side and the extension easily. The structure wiring for the extension is intact but the same can't be said for the structure wiring of main part of the layout. Part of it was ripped out to make way for removing the middle section so I'll be rewiring that too. I just have to work out what takes 5 volts and what takes 12 volts.

Guy Fawkes would be the fellow who tried to blow up the British Parliment back in 18 something, yes? didn't google it just my poor dim memory. Plot didn't work by the way.

Speaking of trying - trying to catch up posts again. I see Jefferey really needed that reply tool box. Busy, busy. Now  I need to find the post explaining what the Sam Hill you're up to. Modelling a sink hole it looks like to me[*-).     J.R.

Oh yeah, I remember hearing about that Guy Fawkes. Met some people from the UK (one of them worked as a security guard for Cadburys. sweet job.) and they helped to host a bonfire with some more American country twists. Skynard, quads, and Jeeps, need I say more?

Color me confused on what y'all are talking about, but since you mentioned Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Jeeps, I'm in!

Who is that Fawkes guy, anyway?

The middle section is out and the beam has been cut. The part you see hanging in the photo is the park section. It's going to need a little support under the sides at the front to keep it from dropping into the abyss. I don't know about you guys but I'm tired.

I've got most of the drill work done and I feel like I've gone 6 rounds with an octopus. The holes are 1 to 2 inches apart. I'll cut through the area between them with a finishing saw. More hard work but a workout is supposed to be good for you. If my doctor knew what I was doing he'd probably have me tied up in the corner. Another hour to hour and a half should see the middle section removed. After that there's a part of a 2x4 going across the front that has to be cut and taken out. I've already put in an addition leg to take the weight of the west side of the layout when the beam is cut.

Since we're in AZ, I will have Southwestern Steak and Pinto Beans, please.

Nothin' better than authentic Southwestern cooking!

I assume the diner was dispatched via NYC-ATSF from upstate NY to northern AZ. That would have been the quickest way assuming we're in that era. I recall riding the Santa Fe from Chicago to Los Angeles. They operated some long trains moving across Kansas and Eastern Colorado at about 90 mph, and it was a smooth ride.

JimCG is the diner's Santa Fe fan. Where is he?

Rob ... I hope the tresspassers stay away. Your hearing the train wreck in the middle of the night reminds me of a time I was awakened very late in the night. It was 1961. A huge explosion awakened me and lighted my bedroom. Thinking lightning struck the house, I started down the hall to awaken others in the family. Suddenly, however, it was dark. Then there were sirens, the old mechanical style sirens. Police and firemen kept coming and coming with all of those sirens. It was a TWA Constellation, propeller-type airliner. 78 people died on a nearby field.  I can't forget that.

Glad everyone liked the Monon BL2. Come to KY and see it!

Good evening diner gang!!..A typical fall night here in Upstate N.Y so I will take a slice of apple pie..scoop of vanilla...and a cold glass of milk. Been awhile since I actually posted here. The last few weeks have been a little rough. My wife started having pain in her knee about 3 weeks ago without any warning. Let's just say that night we were in the E.R for pain meds and doctors scratching their heads. The next day we went to the surgeon that operated on that same knee a few years ago for a small meniscus tear and some arthritis...routine stuff. He drained what I could only describe as poorly mixed lemonade out of her knee and sent it off to the lab. Long story short he said white counts 65,000 but no "infection" on the sample. He was stumped. Went home in a leg brace...more pain meds. We were back a week later after the most painful week I have ever seen my wife have. She was admitted and he did surgery the next day and basically just "cleaned out" the knee and sent more samples to the lab. After almost a week in the hospital and many lab samples it was determined she had pneumococcus. A nasty bacterial infection in her knee. No one has a clue as to how it got there..(my guess is something has been festering since the 1st surgery in there). So now we get the lovely routine of giving her high dose antibiotics daily through a picc line in her arm at home. Plus home nurse visits and physical therapy. For four weeks!! I truly feel my worst for her but I have had to be strong the last few weeks for our 9 year old daughters sake. I now know what it truly feels like to play single parent and work each day. Especially when you daughter asks if she has any clean bras to wear Surprise So I figured I would vent a little here about my frustrations since you all are caring folk who never judge. On the lighter note I was able to sneak away for a few hours to the fairgrounds to help the club set up the modules for the big 2 day train fair. I love this show as I get to see a lot of people in this hobby that you only see this time of year. Thanks for listening!!!...Embarrassed

A true friend will not bail you out of jail...he will be sitting next to you saying "that was friggin awesome dude!" Tim...Modeling the NYC...is there any other?

Pumpkin pie, please.

***Jeffrey, like your new plans. Once done, it should be easier for you to work on. Also kinda cool that you will then be virtually "surrounded" by trains.Cool

***Garry, they were carrying grain. The local birds sure will be enjoying themselves. BTW, nice loco pic there!

Had a run-in with a trespasser today. My wife had her hand on the phone about two heartbeats away from dialing 911. Same redneck couple that I kicked off our new land a couple months ago. I about lost it when this jerk raised his voice as if he had any right to be there. Probably a good thing I wasn't packing today, as I would have drawn on him. I'm too old/unhealthy to get physical these days, as tempting as it was with this idiot. Wrote down his liscence plate number. (Rant over)

Need to make some train time one day soon. Instead put up additional, very obvious NO TRESPASSING signs this evening.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Found some more engines, all are Athearn Blue Boxes. All so getting close to the box of cheap Life Like Engines, most are Santa Fe Warbonnet's F units. So if you want to make some dummies your chances is coming. One that still run, will be given away at my LHS.

Athearn blue box engines? Please describe them.

Hey guys

Jeff, I'm a younger and an I already don't care for duck-unders.

Ulrich, Hope you get that job.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evening guys!

Well, we bought a Toshiba 26" LCD tv at Olum's/ It was more expensive than a model at Wallyworld by $50 but we liked the picture better on it over the one at Wallyworld. I know those things can be adjusted SOMETIMES, but we decided we liked the Toshiba model better, so we spent the extra money. It is so clear and I can actually read the fine small letters on teh set up menu! AMAZING improvement over the old SHarp TV!

Exact Rail posted some pictures of the ex. St. Lawrence boxcar I just did on the Exact Rail "face book" page.    I feel pretty good about THAT!!

Congrats ROBBY P.! I guess now that you are getting to famous, can I say I "knew you when"???

SAWYER-the congrats were well earned...now you need to learn to drive something bigger like the "behemoth" Honda! It'll do you good!

Ulrich- heres hoping to them calling you to tell you you have the job!

Funny how the older we get the more practical we become.

Ain't that the truth. I now put wheels or sliders on everything heavier than a breadbasket so I can move it later if need be. Of course I can't/am not supposed to be lifting much anyway.

I am practical in all other matters too. I have multiple umbrellas in teh Kia minivan so we and guests are sure to have one. I use umbrellas now whereas when I was younger I used to run.

Age does that to us, I guess, make us practical and teaches us to slow down {maybe}?

Well later guys!

Jeff, eh, the only bad thing about the little cars like the Civic is people's headlights tend to fill up the car at night. that's why I'd rather have a Charger 4-door haha.

Vincent, haha, just look for the white Civic with all the dents.

Everyone THANKS for the congrats!

Well, tonight we play our arch-rivals from South Aiken who have pulled a Detroit Lions this year, they're ofer. hopefully we keep it that way. I'll be freezin my butt off in the student section (it's forecast to be 48 by 8 pm)

Robby, congrats on the pic son facebook!

 Afternoon Arizona.

Flo, may I please have The Grilled Salmon, Larger Salad with diced Chicken Knockers, Blue Cheese Dressing and Beer in a Frosted Monon Mug, the one with the BL 2 on it!

Ulrich and Morgan Still have not gotten the drawing done, sorry.

Spent 5 hours cleaning the garage / train room. Cleaned up the underside of the 9.5 X 5 foot section. (K-10 Mining Company) Vacuumed the floor under the section and redid the wiring. Then cleaned out the walkway on the right side by my Snap on Box so I won't trip on anything. Saturday I will hang the new shop light and bring some of the plants out from the family room. Loaded up all the crap that I had picked up, threw away some more boxes that my wife saves and made a trash run.

Moved the Christmas tree that is stored under the layout to the other side. So I can start pulling out the lumber to see what I have on hand. There is a good sizes stack under there, I will be pulling it out Saturday after I have the Garage / Train Room Drawing Done. Found my floor jack and some other stuff I did not know where they where stored.

Found some more engines, all are Athearn Blue Boxes. All so getting close to the box of cheap Life Like Engines, most are Santa Fe Warbonnet's F units. So if you want to make some dummies your chances is coming. One that still run, will be given away at my LHS.

Todd, on Pearl Beer Do you know if it is still sold in our state and if so any idea where? Reason I started collecting them is because I like the colors. What really sucks is when I started buying them, it was off E Bay. I thought they where out of production and got into bidding wars over them. One day I mention them to Ken (owner of K-10 Model Trains) and he told me he could still get them! I order 15, but his supplier only had 5 off them left. Got them for $4.99 each. Then Athearn dropped there Blue Box line.Bang Head

Got a couple of Train DVD to watch from the Library. Model Railways by Bob Symes and The Great Tran Story about the Museum of Science and Industry layout.

 See you all Saturday.

Running Bear,

Funny how the older we get the more practical we become.  I made the same decision, if I can''t reach it, I can't build it. Sure is nice to be up close and personal with the trains though.

Have Fun,

Now that I have the wiring moved out of the way it will soon be time to remove the middle section from the front of the layout so it can become a walk in design. It'll certainly make it easier on me as I won't have to crawl under the layout to correct problems, clean a/c filter, etc. When you're my age there are some things that can't be done as easily as they were at 25. Not to get ready for the shoulder and back massage I know is to come. My jigsaw is kaput so I have to use my drill with a 1 inch bore bit to remove the middle section.

This the current track plan:

And this the new plan with the middle section removed:

By the time I'm finished I hope to be in somewhat better shape than this:

Looking at the spiderweb of wiring under the layout I've decided to rip it all out and rewire it completely. There's only one turnout that will be out of my reach so that makes that part easy. I have the wire hanger clamps for the running of the buss lines and the feeder wires are already in place. The layout is DCC so it shouldn't take too long. Certainly a shorter time than working out what wires went where.

Rob ... A big tain wreck in Cartersville! ... What was in all the covered hoppers? Peanuts? Soylent Green?

Ulrich .... I assume your not a beer salesman for some of those brands.

Jerry ... I like the layout photo.

Here's a photo for the Monon fans. I took it at the KY Ry Museum.

Here were are in AZ, but we have said very little about that. Actually, Shelley and I may get to AZ in December. My daughter is there near Phoenix.

Strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

We heard this train and the laying on of the horn with some serious rumbling, but didn't recognize it as a derailment at the time. We often hear trains rumbling off in the distance. In hindsight, it did seem to get quiet rather quickly. Makes sense to us now. http://www.wsbtv.com/news/25644997/detail.html

Good Evening,

just dropping in for a quick Beer !

Zoe, make that a Pilsner Urquell for me, please!

Chris - my memory on US beers is not really a good one, maybe because I am spoiled rotten from what we have in Germany. No, I don´t mean Loewenbraeu - that´s just dishwater Whistling

.Paulaner, Salvator, Andechser Klosterbraeu, Flensburger Pils, Paeffgen Alt, Frueh Koelsch - yummy. Not to forget Tuborg, Guiness Extra Stout. Forget all those Heinekens, Amstels, all of the French and Belgian beers - they are made of anything but old and smelly tennis shoes.

I am doggone tired - call it a day for today!

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood afternoon, plate of cheeseburgers and a bucket of Coke please 'n thank-you. Yup, at the RC.

Well Zip-a-DEE-Doo-DAH!! For the first time in a long time, I have "no deeds to do, no promises to keep!" While I'm not "dappled," I am a bit "drowsy." Fall sports is winding down, my next gig in THAT department isn't until Wednesday for 1st round of State Class 4A volleyball. I'll be back on the "news and features" desk with an easy-peasy business feature and some simple follow-up/update articles next week.

Geepers, I might actually get to do some MRR stuff this weekend!!!

WHOOOO-HOOOOOOO!

TODD and CUDA KEN: : I've got a small but growing fleet of beer cars too. But, mine are all shades of CNW yellow. They are already assigned to deliver to the future Jerabek Wholesale Distributor. Jerabek carried Old Mil., Stroh's, Schaefer, Schlitz, Heineken, Amstel Light, Molson Golden, Guiness, Harp, and Bass. In my world, he'll also carry Grain Belt, Old Style, and PBR.

Speaking of Schlitz, THAT's a tough one to find. I used to get it (in my college days) at Drug Town, but anymore I have to go to a beer/booze shop in Solon or North Liberty to find it. Same with Grain Belt. Now there's a rough brew... I got a 12 of it out of curiosity once, my Grandpa in Kansas was apparently keen on it. Of course, he also put salt into his Budweiser too...Whistling

VINCENT: I think I stumbled across the packet of couplers for you. Hopefully, I'll get 'em in the mail to you sooner rather than later.

I still have a few "surplus" buildings laying around THAT will need a new home:

JERRY: Good to see you sir! Nice shot of THAT Monon BL-2 the other day, and I'm liking THAT layout. Might have to see if I can find something Illinois Central to tack up.

Hey, you guys to the northeast of Iowa...you can keep THAT white stuff THAT falls out of the sky... or ship it back to our Canadian friends, your choice!!

On THAT happy note, I'll have a seat here at the RC and try not to fall asleep in the burgers...

Exact Rail posted some pictures of the ex. St. Lawrence boxcar I just did on the Exact Rail "face book" page.    I feel pretty good about THAT!!

I haven't done to much but clean and cleaned up a room so I can have more roof to lift some weights!!  I felt like I was getting out of shape.

Well I will pop back inl ater.

I had the reply box just not the toolbar that goes with it. It's alright now though. Selector told me how to get it back and it worked.
