Decaf, please.

Another parcel awaits us at the PO. It is undoubtedly train stuff. Unlikely I'll make it into town until Monday though.

After pricing HO scale sidewalk, decided to try making it instead. First experiment will be stone spray over cut sections of cardboard, only because I have already have some on hand. If it looks bad, will try something else.

Mighty quiet in here.

Speaking of Barry..........  So you're getting a defribbbllerator thingy, huh?  Well I sure hope it does its job well and you will be around for a long time.  Hey, next year the NMRA Div. around Woodstock will be putting on a convention again.  Probably the same weekend as the Train Show.  Maybe our paths will cross again....

Yep----getting a defibbrilator thingumajigger in me---it should help the heart some. Speaking of the show--I'm planning on being at the convention myself this time so that way we wil meet regardless of when it'll happenBig Smile

Speaking of which, I ended up with those 2 appointments and then another showed up--namely w**k related-----now I  got caught up with the ding changes at w**k as well

Welp. I'm heading off to get some other things done----tomorrow will be a busy one again----wwweeeeee!!

Been awhile since I stopped by, so I though I would so HI!

Hello! I'm liking the avatar-thing...ALWAYS good to see the mighty Ball 'n Bar with some yellow and green power! Thumbs Up Thumbs UpCool Tell the lady behind the counter your next meal is on me and Rerun.

Good evening............... ice water, IV set up with a 1000 cc bag of Lactated Ringers solution, ibuproffen, and sinus meds please 'n thank-you. A HOT, humid day in Fort Dodge it was. I had to cover the Class 3A Championship Runner-up game in the State Softball Tournament (high school). "My" Clear Creek Amana Clippers...were sunk, scuttled, keel-hauled, and ultimately sent to Davy Jones' Locker. Tomorrow, I process the photos (edit, crop, make any necessary adjustments, convert to a .eps file), and bang-out captions and a game report. All to be turned in for THAT Editor on Sunday afternoon while Maggie the Creepy Proofreader Girl is in the office and able to navigate THAT's desktop with far less risk of mucking something up!

I see Mr. Gopher is still eluding his demise... Young Mr. Sawyer is off on an adventure, RYAN is back!!! Big Smile, and the UPRR is wrecking houses with a brush cutter Shock.

Another goofy night for radio propagation. I'm picking up UP's Dispatcher 12 (not uncommon), but I'm picking him up giving slow orders well into the Illinois Side of things. 12 Gets from Nelson, IL to MP 92 just west of Beverly Yard. Dispatcher 19 goes from MP 92 on west. I'm picking up the hot box detector at MP 24. something. THAT one is a good 20 miles away. I barely get the Lowden detector, and THAT's only about six miles away. On the fire/EMS bands, I'm picking up Whiteside County, IL loud and clear. I'm also getting portable/hand-held/"walkie-talkie" traffic from guys in Manchester, IA. THAT's  a good distance NW of me.

No, I never did figure out where "Rescue 34" was...pretty sure it was NW Illinois or SW Wisconsin though.

Time for a long, cool shower and unconsciousness. My plan (subject to change, of course!) is to sleep until Noon, then deal with the carnage THAT was this afternoon's ball game.

Have a good night everybody...

Good evening friends!

Have over a month of pages to catch up on... I see some new/people I don't recognise/faces in here!?  Always good to see new faces!

Well, I just finished the second week as an Assistant Conductor on the Manassas Line of the Virginia Railway Express (VRE)!  Definitely an interesting couple of weeks!

Here's the website if you are interested in looking at how they operate.  Actuially pretty awesome the way that the VRE communicates with its passengers, with emails and texts to alert them of any delays!

www.VRE.org

Hope everyone is having a good month?!  The temperature here in the D.C. area has hovered around the century mark for nearly two weeks... Makes it rough when you have to wear the Conductors uniform, which includes a real necktie... Ouch!  Lol

Well, Susan, my wife, and I are searching for a home down here.  So that is what I will be up to for most of the day tomorrow.  I just picked up a "netbook" so I should be getting in here quite a bit more than I have been in the past month or so!

May the Lord be with you and grant you safe passage through lifes jagged pathways!

Have a good night my friends!

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just an unsweetened Ice Tea this evening for me....

It is now 11:15PM and the temperature is all the way down to 79°F with a dewpoint of 72°F....  Current humidity close to 90%.  Been THAT way all day.

I got a phone call from the camera store over in Seneca Falls, so on my way to the church today I did a side trip over to the store and picked up the new 10-22mm lens.  I got out of my car which is air conditioned and walked the 5 or 6 steps to the door.  My glasses were completely fogged up. Anyway i tried out the new lens tonight.  Haven't looked at the photos yet.

Well Troop 1 for handicapped youth officially has its first Eagle Scout.  I did sound, helped out with set up, tear down, and cleanup, as well as had the privilege of giving the Eagle Scout Charge (Obligation) and the Eagle Scout Challenge (including the Eagle scout Oath taken by the Scout) to the new Eagle Scout.  We also had a great dinner, and much fun and fellowship!

For some reason, I am very tired tonight..........Confused

Barry, cool!  I'll look forward to seeing you there at the convention and hopefully hanging out with you a bit.  If it is as good as the last one they did, you will love it!  We are having a "general Meeting" for voting during the Toronto Train Show next November.  No-one came forward with a doable plan  for a convention this year....GrumpySad

We have a new video up at the museum web site.  It is about last week's "Trolleys by Twilight".  If you look closely at the first shot focused on the train (after the opening trolley run) you can see me standing by the steps of my caboose....  Since it was quite dark when the video was taken, it is a bit of a strange clip, but captures the evening quite well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfzLS76pO1Y

Oh, this one was sent along by one of our museum members.  Don't forget to wear your Yellow Sfety Jacket and you Hard Hat!  http://www.flixxy.com/train-level-crossing-safety.htm

Have a great evening!

Small bowl of cherries, please.

***Ray, besides capturing a glimps of your image, the sounds captured were numerous. Might go as far as saying, that is one noisy train. Cool!

It's after 2:30am here, time to hit the hay.

Good Morning. Crud. Now I wish I'd bought the Cajun Spice at the same time I got the Finger Lickin Rub. A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Partly cloudy, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 109. Now it's summer. I think I'll wear a short sleeve shirt today.

Another busy day ahead with NO time for MRR. Well, doesn't look like it anyway. Pick up Mom from the Stalag about 10am CDT, then she wants to partake of some food other than Nursing home food so a trip to Ryan's is needed, then I don't know what will go on or for how long, then it's out to her house to start working on the remodel. Leeet's just see what happens to keep me from doing it today. I'm getting flustered with this not being able to get started on the project and have noticed my temper getting shorter. WAY shorter. After 4 ½ years I want this house gone ‘cause I'm tired of this.

Ryan- Un noticed? HA! I think not. We know you're busy and you'll stop in when you can. And we always look forward to when you do. I feel passenger trains will make a come back here. I really do. As the population grows, they must find places to live and living in a big city can just be way too crowded. Distances from work will be greater and people may tire of driving so long to work and looking for parking, or paying monthly, opting to return again to train travel. In fact I'm so sure of this my layout reflects, or will, the current era as if the passenger service from the railroads had not stopped.

Rob- She built the house there. There are three houses in line that belong to the same family members, one was the grand parents house from looks like the forties, fifties, I don't know, maybe the twenties, that the brother bought when the Grandfather passed twenty years ago by now I suppose, the other was built probably in the sixties maybe. That is the house the kids grew up in. The eldest daughter when she got married, built a house on the last chunk of land, or should I call it a sliver between the brothers house and a bar, why? I guess to be with the family or maybe cause the land cost $7 to split off or something like that.

EDIT: Ooops. he heWhistling sorry, forgot to insert picture. Here. It makes the next paragraph make much more sense.

The white building nearest is a bar. The Tanish house you see next is her house. The back of the house is approximately the same distance as the bar. It appears to be less, but really probably not much. I does seem a lot closer in real life when you walk out the back door. Especially when the trains go through!  The other two houses follow  down with approx the same setback and their "backyards are on the side of the houses. Too close for me, but they are used to it. As you can see by the crossing they are still laying on the horn as they pass the house. You talk about a conversation stopper.Shock

Ray- I didn't see you, but the other video was kind of a chuckle. I'm surprised they actually did that. Tearing up the roadbed like that, the debris thrown on the other tracks, not to mention the possibility that the car itself could have caused the thing to derail. Still, makes you think about the hazards of trying to beat a train in a humorous way.

Well, I had better get a move on if things are to go my way at all.

On a side note, I was drawing a blank on how to spell "debris". So while looking the word up in the dictionary, yes I use that and not some computer thingy, when I initially opened the book and the word that I first noticed was "butthinge" ... I just had to snicker.

Have a Great Day!!!

Good morning. It's 76 and mostly cloudy. The high will be 94 and it will be mostly cloudy.

We've got everything tied down here to keep it from washing away tomorrow when Bonnie's rains come. We're expecting at least 1.19 inches of rain. Old man Murphy was in good form yesterday. While I was mowing my parent's yard the choke cable on the old tractor grounded out one of the spark plugs. To say it was a shocking experience would be an understatement. Then while I was here in the front room chatting online with a couple of friends sinister forces were at work in the bedroom. At about 9:40 pm my display rack which holds many of my locos parted company with the wall. A mounting brace on the back had broken and the increased weight being thrust on the other one caused it to fail catastrophically. Fortunately my bed is against that wall and about 3/4's of the locos landed on the bed. The others stayed on the rack. The rack itself was easily repaired and reattached to the wall. The damage to the locos was mostly couplers that were knocked loose. The worst damage was to a Proto 2000 E6A that had the front truck knocked out. That required that the worm assembly be put back in place and the truck remounted. Good thing I had some extra worm housing clips lying around. There are 6 of those heavy Proto beasts in the rack, The rest are a mix of Proto, MDC, Athearn, Bachmann and Mehano. Two of the four Atlas locos I have are in a shadow box on the opposite wall and the other two are on the layout along with some Athearns and Bachmann's. My GP7's did not come in yesterday. UPS got balled up on the address. For some reason they were looking for an apartment number where there is none. I called UPS and they checked the address with me and it was just what it was supposed to be, so I don't see what the problem was. They'll try again Monday.

Afternoon everyone, A couple of tall glasses of sweet tea for me and my boy and a couple of burgers while your at it. Flo, Were headed over to Lowes taking a break from working on the railroad empire down in the basement. Was going to fire up the tractor to mow the back 40 this morning took one step out the back door onto the porch and turned around and took two steps back inside the house. With the heat index here today it's supposed to be between 104 to 108 it feels like we passed that a couple of hours a go. So I figure if I don't have to do anything outside I ain't.

Jeff sorry to hear about your catastrophe at least the damage was relatively minor it still leaves a knot in your gut thou. The other day I hear laughing and giggling and growling coming form my son's room this usually mean him and his dog a one year old Yorkie Poo named Bear are up to no good. Well I peak in the door and here's Bear attacking a Lionel box car that my son was using as a truck on the floor and of course the dog was only trying to help. That danged little mutt hates trains whenever we play with his Lionel's in his room the dog attacks the train. It's cute for about 20 seconds then I want to duct tape the lil sucker.

Ok all stay cool and relax and enjoy the weekend where you live.

Just my 2 cents worth, I spent the rest on trains. If you choked a Smurf what color would he turn?

Zoe, still need my morning Dark roast Coffee, can I get it iced?  Good!  THAT and a Blueberry muffin would be wonderful.

Hot, hot hot, here in the Finger Lakes  today.  After over an inch and 1/4 of rain yesterday, it is already 81°F.  lucky the humidity is down some from yesterday.  We have already had close to 5" of rain in July.  The average for July is 3.12".......  Drought's over!Whistling

I think I will spend the rest of the day down cellar fiddling with MRR stuff.

Hope you have a good one!

Yep. We got everything tied down here so nothing will float off but one way or another Bonnie's gonna make a mess. Glad I'm in the west-central part of the state. I won't have to look at the beaches afterward.

Whistling

Good day all,

Time here for lunch.   Chloe, I'll have a double Denver on Rye with a diet Dr.P.

Jeff, I know I've missed a few pages here and there over the last month, But, I was wondering if you ever did get that steering column into that van of yours, and how everything performs.   Would like to see a completed picture of your unit.  By the way Jeff, could you PM me with the method you use with the printer and air mail letter paper that you have used instead of decals.

Rob, What are you doing, still being up at 2:30 in the morning ?  You should have had about 3 hours of sleep by then. But sure like the changes you are making to your wife's layout. Really waiting to see the backgrounds that an ARTIST turns out. Bet they will be something to behold.

Ryan,  always great to hear from you whether you are doing MR work or not.  Sure miss your Great Name Train Specials recepies.  Would like to see more of them.

Galaxy, Ulrich, Robbie, Barry and others, we keep you all on the prayer list and hope you are all making progress with your health situations.

Sure would like to know the whereabouts of some of our lost buddies here. namely, Fergie,  OJ-ED, and Red Horse. It's been a year I beelieve since we have had contact.

I'm not a Happy camper today as I have to work Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon this week-end and the next two as well with other guys taking holidays. That sure takes a big swipe out of a guys summer.  Oh well I guess it is pay-back time as they are always good at covering for me when we go to Spokane a couple of times a year.Sometimes three..........

I just picked up a couple of Bachmann GP-30s that will be the first two Power units that I will letter up for the Last Mountain & Eastern. I'm leaning towards something like C&NW or Reading colors. Want them to be different from most of the others that are WP. and a few other north West roads.

A big hello to Jerry and the Illinois Southern.  Are you still cheering for the Cubs?????????

all for now gang,  you all stay cool, healthy and smiling ya hear.

Johnboy out.........................for now

Veggie plate & a decaf coffee, please.

***Todd, looks like you could almost pass notes back & forth with the engineers. Cool!

***Robby, that's an especially nice looking car. Excellent job! Thumbs Up

Ended up going to bed at 8:00am....good grief. Slept until early afternoon, then bushhogged the pony pasture. Checked the little cardboard squares I spray painted last night with "stone". Should make for a decent basecoat. Going to try adding a very light primer spray or perhaps a touch of gray chalk. One of those will hopefully have the right effect.

Hope everyone is doing well tonight.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Evenin' folks!

Flo just a decaf for me.

Went down to church twice today.  First time it was to make sure the Sanctuary area had been picked up as several of the bulletins for the Eagle ceremony were left on pews and ultimately on the floor....  It had already been done by the time i got there.  I noticed they had rearranged the placement of the Communion Table and the lectern for the Funeral this afternoon, and luckily the thought hit me to check and see if the mike on the podium had been connected correctly.  It wasn't.  They owe me one! Wink  Then this evening, i got a call from the Troop 1 Scoutmaster who's son is the new Eagle.  They couldn't find a card of congratulations from last night.  his son was very upset as the card came from the organization he did his Eagle project for.  So i climbed back in the car and met them down there.  He found it.  It had dropped on the floor behind a display cabinet...  We once again have a happy Eagle!

Did a bit more on the quarry, as in poured some plaster for the stone bottom of the scene.  Need to take my shop vac back down there and start sanding the plaster, and then brushing on more in places.  Then carving the scene can begin.  I did take my new lens down to the layout and take some shots to see how it w*rks....  This was taken at f-29 from just a few inches away from the wagon.  It should give me some more options for getting good shots.

I put up several at the WPF thread.

Oh, and for you that like the sounds of the 1/1 scale stuff, here's one from the R&GV RR Museum.

Hope all of you have a great evening!

Sir Madog

Zan - I am living in the region, where "Goetta" is supposedly coming from. I never heard of that stuff and I have never seen being sold. It sounds very much like the Scottish "Haggis" or the Palatinate "Saumagen", both being meat and some stuff to "extend" it, seasoned and pressed into some sort of "containment". The old and traditional way of cooking is very much on the retreat here in Germany, as less and less people actually do prepare a whole meal by themselves. "Convenience food" is the name of the game - you know that "just add, water, or milk, thoroughly cook until it boils - ready to be served" stuff. I am lucky to have Petra, who likes to cook and knows how to handle herbs and spices!

Ulrich: I'm not surprised that it's nolonger prominant in Germany today...it came here with the German working class or lower immigrants in the 1800s.  Here the popularity is growing.   There is a yearly GoettaFest that is considered one of the top 10 festivals in the metro area.

Reality...an interesting concept with no successful applications, that should always be accompanied by a "Do not try this at home" warning.

Hundreds of years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...But the world may be different because I did something so bafflingly crazy that my ruins become a tourist attraction.

"Oooh...ahhhh...that's how this all starts...but then there's running...and screaming..."

Heartland Division CB&Q
.

Zan .... I've had Goette several times. Hits the spot with eggs in the morning. I'm in grits territory here. ...  I've had some of that chilli. One place was called Skyline Chili. I forget the name of the other chain. They have those short hot dogs Cincy-style with a ton of shredded chedder cheese. ..... We like LaRosa's in Cincy area.

Garry:  The other big one in the chili game is Gold Star, plus there are several small players.  LaRosa's is good, but we prefer another regional chain...Donatos.

Hey guys.

Been working on some of my locos. I got that RS11 and GP9 speedmatched really well. I'm having a bit of trouble with my 2 Kato C425s. They run alright, but are noisy as all get out. I've lubed them and checked the worms and gears for stuff. but they still make a hideous howling noise from about mid to full throttle. Weird because I though Kato drives were supposed to be great. I have noticed some rust on the flywheels and the worms have a lot of play, so I'm wondering if either of those could be the problem.

Rob, Looking good with that one.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Decaf coffee, please.

***Ray, from the posture of those horses, that fella is not going to stop them from moving forward which will launch the other man at the back of the wagon face first into the off-loading platform. The good news is those horses show the energy required to make a dash to the nearest Docs office, where the (soon to be) broken jaw can be wired back in place. Smile,Wink, & Grin Love the scene and your new camera lens is a winner.          As for the RR sounds, most impressive. Could be used as a "sound track" for Godzilla finishing off a mechanical monster.CoolThumbs Up

Hello folks.

It's been a strange week here.  It seems like every day either wife or I had doctor appointments.  It's been cooking hot and absurdly humid, with popup rains every day.  To top it all off, it looks like the 6yo pseudo granddaughter (step daughter's boyfriend's daughter) that had been spending weekends here, is now here indefinately and maybe perminantly.   She's toxically cute and equally as ornery and undiciplined.  For the last 4 days, and for the forseeable future, she has been everyone's main focuse.

With all of the above going on, about the only model railroad related task that got done was unpacking and inspecting a large box of miscellaneous stuff from M B Klein.

Wife went out this evening with "Little Bit" to buy coloring books...and came home with a new printer/coppier/scanner that came with a digital camera.  It's been probably 25 years since I've had a camera, largely due to the fact that I've never taken an in-focus pic in my life.  I may have to try my hand with this one, since there is no film to waste.  Now there is at least a slim chance of pictures of the layout project.

Reality...an interesting concept with no successful applications, that should always be accompanied by a "Do not try this at home" warning.

Thanks Rob!  Those were the only draft horses I could find THAT came with a harness.  Even so the reins and draw straps were hand made from masking tape and then painted black.  They are giving the poor guy a handfull aren't they.

Zandoz, we all love photos around here, and will look forward to seeing your progress.

Rob .... Your sleeping schedule is a bit out of sync with most people.

Ray ... I like the photos.

Zan ... Danotos is good pizza, too. We like the calzones at LaRosas. ... Hope the medical appointments were OK. I go all the way to Nashville for most of my medical stuff. I had good test results when I was there this week.

Robby ... Your covered hopper looks outstanding. In particular, I like the verticle rust streaks. Looks like years of being in the rain. Perhaps you can show others how you did that.

JohnBoy ... You mentioned the Cubs to Jerry. I grew up near Chicago, and went to many Cubs games by train. Now, I don't think kids can affford to attend many MLB games.

Here, I'm continuing to install track for my Union Station complex. Also, I'm working on a Stewart F3 A/B set. This evening I installed the grab irons on the B unit.

Garry:  Glad to hear your tests went well.  My visits not so much. I'm still losing left hand function, when it's supposed to be doing better...and I found out that the hospital cardiologist that treated me back in May put me on the wrong meds...meds that could induce other problems for me.  The meds they now want me on will require frequent doctor visits for monitoring.  Getting me out of the house for any reason is a major project, and a major stress on my wife who has her own plate full of medical issues.

Reality...an interesting concept with no successful applications, that should always be accompanied by a "Do not try this at home" warning.

 Bean burrito & a chicken chimichanga, please.Dinner

***Zandoz, hope you will take some pics to share with us. Can't get enough of them.

***Garry, my sleeping schedule is out of sync with remaining sane, too. Maybe a plate of Mexican food will draw blood from my brain into my tummy and allow the voices in my head to subside long enough to find sweet slumber on the Night Train through Georgia!?!Big Smile

Good night y'all.
