Success! Dr Pepper please. Other than a trip to see Mom and the ensuing trip to a local Chinese Boofay, all went pretty smooth today. I got all but one counter top removed and the flooring pulled up and the last of the cabinets removed AND the wall stripped to the studs. Of course I did find some construction, um....techniques shall we say, in the wall and header that need to be corrected. I describe it as looking like a bunch of small children building a fort in the woods with some scrap lumber they scrounged from the garages of parents. But I should be able to make short work of that and then it's drywall and paint in there, replace the cabinets, level, tie in and call the countertop people to measure and make.

Ray-You didn't miss anything on the "what do you like/dislike thread". It was more than likely a flame fuel thread anyway. Crandel stepped in and locked the door before anything happened. Probably wise.

Robby- UGH! Sorry man. The banks are all the same. They approve and pre approve almost anything and get you all worked up until it comes time to make good then the underwriters step in and put the skids on it.

Jeff- Got your Pirogue ready? I have this feeling you won't need it.

Evenin' folks!

Flo just a decaf for me.

I was just about ready to nuke some leftover Ziti and meatballs from the Dinner last Friday, when the phone rang.  It was son telling me to get over to his house for BBQ Chicken and some oither tasty stuff for dinner.  Who am I to refuse.........  Played Candyland with #1 granddaughter after dinner.  All went well for the first 4 moves, then she decided to cheat.....  Learning to be a little lady already...  Grandpa didn't mind as i got a big hug anyway.  Then the whole bunch of us (6 adults total) played Dominos for the rest of the evening.....  I had the highest score by about 100 pts. at the end of the game!!!

In the words of the immortal W. C. Fields (paraphrased because I don't want to have to look it up right now), "Ah!  A thief!  Now I like thieves.  Several of my best friends are thieves.  Why just last week we had the president of a bank over for dinner!"

Todd, I popped into the thread back when it was still on page one just to see what was going on and how long I figured it would be before it burst into flames and got locked.  You know we should have had pool to see when it would have happened.....Whistling

The air conditioners are shut off and the window fan is on......... Yeah!!Wow!!Thumbs Up  First time in 2 weeks.  Nice out there tonight.  Already down to 65°F and going down to 62°F.  It won't get much high than 70 until late morning either!

Well time to hit the sack I think.

Later!

Hey fellas. Is the cook in? No, never mind, I'll have a cup of coffee or what ever is fresh back there. Not much from me, just wanted to stop in. Have been having problems with the internet though. First there was problems with the connection, then the router. Weather has been cool here too, as well as less humidity. Bought some weathering pastels and dullcote at the LHS when I ran my sister over to Borders at the same mall. Big mistake because the road was under construction down to one lane and my sister had the A/C cranked full blast in my Jeep and I could see the temp gauge climbing. I normally drive with windows down. Kills the power and I like the neck snapping acceleration my Jeep gives. Other than that, nothing new. Well, I'd better pay up and get outta here. Need to get some sleep.

Deluxe Mexican plate, please.

***Jim, Congrats on your Veterinarian License and good luck with that equine surgery. Not the easiest animals to work on. Wink

Went down to the train room and felt entirely overwhelmed. Still, managed to place and glue down most of the sidewalk squares, leaving those that will have lights mounted on (through) them loose.

Tried swapping trucks, then entire chassis of new MTcars with various vintage cars with zero success. To many minor differences. Still going to try replacements trucks "meant to fit" vintage cars. If that doesn't work, I'll be looking at selling off all my old cars and starting over. Gurrrr!

 Good Morning Everyone,

Flo, I´ll go for a light breakfast today, coffee in a mug, bacon and eggs, pan cakes and sausages, please n´ thanks.

Well, that particular thread started out in quite a civil manner, but then there was a poster laying out poisonous bait, so Crandell locked it. I feel sorry for people who have such a sour life that  a lemon must have a sweet taste for them Whistling

Today is our 26th wedding anniversary. For richer or poorer, for better or worse - now it is poorer and worse for Petra and me. I feel pretty bad about not being able to offer Petra the kind of life that I think we deserve. If I could see a silver lining on the horizon, but there is just nothing in sight, other than dreams of a peaceful life on a piece of land with our name on it, far away from the anguish and sorrow we now have.

Have a good and rewarding day, my friends!

Edit: Made it into the ranks of the top 150 contributors today - wow. Have I posted that much in those 16 months since I joined?

OK, on the wife's (HO) layout she has a 3-way intersection in town. If you wanted to add some kind of lighted accessory(s) for traffic, which would you use? Confused Because there will be a circus parade running through that intersection, 2 of the 3 (if not all 3) directions will have Red lights. I suppose the simple answer would be the 3-way lighted poles, unless there are better options? Rob

Rob: I don't know of any three way lighted poles. Out by the trainclub, there is a threeway, one N-S, one cuts in E-W and terminates, as does one running Northeasternly.all of them are goverened by the cantilever lights, and there;s a light on the post fo rthe angle road. While they are green, the other two roads are red. And when the NE road is green, the NS and E-W road are red, and vice-versa for the E-W being Green.

Google Streetview The Naptown & White River is the light blue building just behind the Dinner Bell, with two doors and no windows.

Were it me? I;d find a cheap dummy light assembly, mount the lights you need for the parade, and do the old colored jewels in the "out" lights. Although, most parades in the towns, the police dive out into traffic, and the parade runs through, while the lights continue on their regular cycles. No one's gonna run the lights with a cop sitting in the middle of the intersecdtion running his lights. Bigger cities will take the lights offline, put them to flashing red, or lock it up be green for the parade the whole way through.

I was in a parade once that got cut in half by a train. Also heard of one cutting a Hearse off from the following family. Something else to think about modeling. :D

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs, Bacon, Home Fries, and sourdough toast if you please.  Oh, Yes, and cup of your fine dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug!

I'll sit in the front booth and enjoy the sunshine outside this morning.  Been kinda quiet in here this morning I guess.

Currently 74°F here in the Finger Lakes with a predicted high of 80°F in a couple more hours.  Lots of sun and all told a nice seasonable day out there.   I plan to do some odds and ends, and head down to the train room.  The big "must do" is get an article out to the NMRA region for the Fall newsletter.  Just found out they need it early this time and I am already late.........

Ulrich, my hearty congrats on 26 years together for you and Petra.  When you have each other, you have a wealth money can't buy!  Have a wonderful day!

I am going to sit for a while and enjoy my "no-calorie" breakfast.

Later!

Rob.. lol.. woot.. Quote: "Went down to the train room and felt entirely overwhelmed."

I feel like that most of the time.  The past month has been over-load.  The only thing I can offer is that I try to work on the layout every day.  But in truth I am overwhelmed as well.

Just wanted to put in my two cents worth concerning a 3-way Stop Light.  I too have a 3 way intersection as well...  but I am trying to make my own 3 way.. 'Hanging Streetlight'  .. mounted on some thin super strong nylon thread, attached to some telephone poles.  I figure I've got a shot at it.  But N scale is extremely small.

I totally forgot about that I was making these, until I read your post.  I had bought a 3 lighted signal,  made a silicone mold.  Then using the dental plaster I made two out of 3 lights needed.  I had placed them in a hutch to dry.. went on vacation and forgot about them.  The part has extremely thin flanges on the signal light, but using the dental plaster seems to be the needed strength.  I am charging up the camera right now just to try to take a pic for you.

I am planning on pouring a few to see various thicknesses .. in order to find the correct size.. and then planning on glueing the 3 together.  Then paint it and hang it.

Good afternoon!  Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!?

I have had an interesting morning, to say the least!   Learning different nuances to this computer and how NOT to lose my posts has been most of the “fun”.   Finally remembered that this thing has Word on it and typed up the fourth draft of this post here!

House hunting went well, Susan and I found the house we want, now it’s just a matter of getting the funds together to be able to move into our dream home!  The great part about the house we both like, is that the basement is fully finished!  Fairly large open space for me to fill with my “Empire”!

Keith- I am SO jealous as to the amount of progress you have achieved!  Looks really sharp!

Chloe, may I please have a BLT, RBF, and SRP, all the large variety?  Thank you!

Well, I’ll settle on into one of the booths, and search the Internet and G**gle E@rth to better remember speeds and special instructions for the Manassas Line on the VRE!

Talk to you guys in a little while!

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!

Todd......If it ain't one thing. its another!!

Ulrich......Congrats on the 26th.  I will be on my 4th in December.   May you have many more.

"Keith- I am SO jealous as to the amount of progress you have achieved!  Looks really sharp!"

Ah thanks Sam,  but just like some others here,  we're over-whelmed.

Rob..?  here's a pic of some of my testing of making my 3-way hanging street lights.  These are not the best castings,  but it gives me some idea of what castings to do next.  Like.. thinner... I will have to sand down these or just pour some more.100_1519.jpg

The top two are / were N-scale electrical street lights.  The bottom one is a poor casting of an HO streetlight both versions with the poles cut off. But you can at least compare the two in size.  I'll probably go with the top two versions... mainly because them being electrical with working lights and all~.. well, the features are so definate and clear.. (being N scale) well you can at least tell its a 'hanging streetlight'  I imagine I'll have to apply all 3 lights to one 'center' pole,  in which the power lines will be attached to.  Ok.. I'm in between glues now.. and I believe its dry.  lol.. oops!

hint... Personally I believe someone loses a thread in Never Neverland, when someone else in a previous post.. goes back and does an edit.  Therefore.. don't go back and edit your post... what you see is what you get and  I try to stay away from edits.

Good news! My GP7's came today! About time! Now I can't see what the problem UPS had with the original address on the package was. I peeled off the new one UPS put on and it's identical to the one HobbyTown USA of Dallas put on it. Go figure.

Not even going to play complete catch-up.  J.P. and Der- condolances on your losses. It really hurts when our 4 pawed friends pass.         Those Bowser kits are a PITA. O-80 screws for the coupler box. Can hardly hold them. I put a spot of grease on the screwdriver tip to hold them. Even so, with shakey hands it takes a while to get them on. Good excuse to go for R-T-R.   I'm in touch with Ed. He and family o.k. and the oranges will be in good shape.  Thanks toall for the pictures. Makes for fast reading[skimming].   Welcome to the newbies. Best group of folks in the world in here.

Prayers and blessings for all.

 Evenin' folks!

Flo, I'll have the Chicken Dinner Special this evening along with large unsweetened Ice Tea.  I'll be in the front booth watching the "Nut" across the street water his trees and bushes.....

According to the weather service we have had measurable rain for 6 of the last 8 days.  A total 2.21 inches worth with .12 inch of it yesterday.  This guy is not watering flowers and veggies, etc.,  he is watering bushes that have been planted years ago. He is soaking the ground around a 25 year old tree in his lawn... OK, so the tree has some flowers planted around it, but really!  I guess he likes high water bills, or can't find anything else to do.Confused

I got the rack back on the little trailer today.  Very nice day to be outside.  I also did a bit more research on limestone and rock cutting along with printing 8.5 x 11 " photos of the quarry South of Seneca Falls to give me something to check for color and texture of the rock.

Tonight I plan on sanding down the plaster a bit and adding a wash of diluted plaster to build up the rock faces.  After a couple coats and a bit more sanding it should be ready for some light carving.  Bought a set of dental tools from Micro-Mark a few months back.  I will give them a try.

Have a good one!

Hey guys

I cracked open a new jar of bondo for my car, and this new can is working really well. I have most of the rear 1/3 of the car done. I'm trying to set up a test drive with someone else who was intrested in trading for my ca.

Jim, both webpages are now up, but they are "temporarily out of stock" of the brushes for the RS2 (AFAIK, all the Kato/atlas locos used the same motor as the RS2), I found a set of kato brushes and springs (along with some thrust washers) on ebay, although it said the brsuhes were for the N scale locos. All else fails, I still have one operable. They looked the same, so only one way to know if they are the same.

By the way Jim, I only got a little bit of rain in the mid morning. it's been fairly nice out the rest of the day.

Ulrich, congrats on 26 years with the missus.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I'll have a cold lemonade, please !

Flip ! ....... Great to see you again.

Rob .. What? Overwhelmed in the train room?

Sam ... Hope you two get the house you want. Low mortgage rates and low home prices make it a buyers market. Manasses is a nice area.

Jeff ... Hope the new arrivals work well! ... Glad UPS finally cam thru with it..

My Stewart F3 AB set is now in service although I may add more deatils at a later date. These are the Phase IV F3's that look like F7's except for dynamic brakes having rectangular vents isntead of a fan.

Also, I'm continuing to lay track

JimCG ... It's a slow process and it will be a while before pix. Have fun kitbashing donkeys into burros. You're the only person I know who is doing that.  ...... Look out, Brighty, here comes Jim!

.Here are two more pictures from the Amtrak train in Colorado. I took these from the rear door window.

Scrambled eggs with all the fixin's, please.

Thanks for the street light suggestions, links, etc...guys! We're leaning towards using three "one-way" lights at three corners with a cop blocking traffic for the parade. Would be the simplest solution.

Had some serious thunder-boomers this evening. Over 1,000 lightning strikes in 15 minutes.

No energy for anything today. Entirely exhausted.

The worst of the weather has passed for now. It's what I was expecting yesterday. Guess it wasn't keeping a schedule. There's a 30% chance of more storms tonight. The low will be 73. And yes, we took quite a rocking here. Heavy rain and the wind that goes with it with plenty of lightning and thunder in close to make it interesting. This Faraday cage I live saved my bacon again. The trailer took a direct hit. My ears are still ringing! There's no electrical damage. All of the charge went to ground.

Here are my F3 A and B units, I mentioned. They are Stewart/Kato F3 phase IV. I installed the grab irons and the number decals.

Evening, just popped in to see what was going on. Garry'e posting some great pictures and....

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ULRICH and PETRA!!!!!  You know Ulrich, you have something worth more than all the gold in California. Maybe, just maybe, this is the Big Guys way of letting you see just what riches you do have. A loving wife that many many guys can't say the same about, a great son that many many guys would love to have. Lots of friends around you and around the world. Friends you've never even met. You, my friend are a rich man whether you realize it or not. Sure a nice big house and all the trimmings are great but the love of a family and friends can't be bought at any price. As my Mother says, "Count your blessings. That oughta keep you busy for quite some time."

Prayers for those in need.

Tall glass of cool lemon water, please.

***Jeffrey, I'd say you're lucky to not have any damage. A very good thing, too!

***Garry, sweet looking locos there. How did you make the fencing in that shot?

Had some restless neurons passing crazy ideas through some synapses tonight. Imagine a line running from the wife's (HO) layout, into a tunnel at the base of a massive volcano. Once inside, the track spirals in ever increasing loops until reaching near the top (about the height of my shelf layout), where it proceeds along the walls. All HO scale, including my Soylent Green Plant. Imagine the details of such an operation in HO. Crazy idea...someone please hit me in the back of the head with a sledge hammer and end these crazy notions.

Have a good night y'all.

Rob ... Thanks. The fence is cheap and easy to make. Cut some common window screen in diagonal strips. Glue it to finish nails or wire brads that have been driven into the surface. Of course, you need to measure to get appropriate sizes. Also, I sprayed the screen wilth silver paint before gluing it to the nails.

 Good Morning Everyone,

well, lunchtime is coming up. Petra and I will "feast" on leftovers, so it´ll be just some coffee for me, Zoe, please n´thanks.

The death toll of the Duisburg stampede has risen to 20 now, a 21 year old (young) woman died in the night. Currently, the political "clean-up" is taking place, those who are responsible for the disaster are, of course, denying any responsibility. What a miserable picture!

Garry - sorry, no cake left, as we did not have any. We want to the "clean-up" party at our friends, helping them to clear the ground after Sunday´s garden party. There was so much food left over, that we can still enjoy some of it today.

Sam - congrats on the new house! May happiness move in with you!

Made the on-line immigration test on the Canadian Government´s web site this morning. Despite our age, we would reach a sufficient number of points to be eligible for immigration. Good to know! If I could include  a job offer, it would be a no-brainer! Well, if ....

Good morning. It's 75 and partly cloudy. There's a 50% chance of thunderstorms all through the day. The high will be 89.

Well I'm still here after all the rain yesterday. My GP7's finally arrived and have had their test run and have been set up to run tail to tail. Later when I remove the shells for weathering I'll physically disable the rear LED in each unit and run wires from the pickup leads to connect both units electrically. I've already made a couple of cosmetic changes to the units. The lead unit is minus it's winterization hatch. The trailing unit now has two such hatches. Only the lead unit has dynamic brakes. I took the dynamic brake assembly off the trailing unit (it just comes off with a slight pull) and put it on one of my Athearn GP38's. A perfect fit. The units are fitted with a light board with an 8-pin plug for the decoder. A dummy plug is also included if the unit will be used for DC only. They are of course fitted with Bachmann's severely limited decoder. They will eventually be replaced with a superior Digitrax decoder. That of course will be the DZ125, my decoder of choice. At least with these units I won't have have to solder them in as I can simply plug them in to the 8 pin plug so thoughtfully provided.

Hi Gang: It's been some time since I have been. Does anyone notice that my long absences started when I retired? Yes, retirement is alot of work.

Mary Ann is doing fine and I'm doing well also. Right now I really should be on my way to town and take care of some things for the ranch. I really don't know how we got things done before.

I did get my order in for the 1935 Hiwatha set from Fox Valley. I almost missed it since I didn't see an anoucement untill the Augest MR. That was 7 months after the dead line.

I'll see you all later. My best to everyone.

Mornin' Everyone!

Oh!  Mornin' Bill!  And Paul is here today!  Good to see you both.

Ah, for breakfast I'll have a blueberry muffin with lots of real butter to go along with a cup of dark roast in a R&GV RR Mug.  Thank you Zoe.

I started to build a 19° crossover last night (Fast Tracks).  Didn't get much done other than figure out how i should go about it.  The directions for these leave a bit to be desired.  The Turnouts are well documented and take you piece by piece.  The crossover basically says "Put the parts in place and solder..."  I finally figured out what I will have to do after reading the "directions" completely about 10 times and looking at the jig and then at a couple diagrams, followed by a lot of head scratching.

Still waiting for the plaster to completely dry down in the quarry.  Did a bit of sanding where the plaster has completely cured.  It is a mite humid in the work room down there.  I do keep a dehumidifier going in the layout rooms and keep the humidity around 50%.

Paul you are right about retirement.  Never been so busy in my life!

Jeffrey!  Remember, "That which doesn't kill you makes you hard of hearing!"

OK, catch you all a bit later!

  Good morning all~

Yes another day.. pretty much the same as yesterday.  Cloudy,  cold, feels just like winter.   Now I suppose 5 hours from now I'll be saying it too hot to mow the lawn.

Paul  Quote:  "I did get my order in for the 1935 Hiwatha set from Fox Valley"

Hey Paul,  nice to see you here.. I'm sure you're saying the same about me.  We'll I have been missing in action.  It all started when my kids came home from College,  brought a pup with them.  Then we went camping at the beach,  then my back went out,   then my wife Jeanne kid-napped me off to Vegas to cure my back... except the water was ice cold and the .. oh well nevermind,  I think I even saw Elvis.. but thats another story.

Now Paul getting back to that Hiawatha.  I love that set,  I only wish they had something nice like that in N-Scale.  Oh they do I guess,  but the tail end car is not like what you would see in old pics.  Its not the fancy end car thats for sure.

Also being I love the E6B diesels.. and the Hiawatha had some nice colors, well I bought one.  But the actual passenger cars are a different color.

yes.. I believe this type is called an E6B.   Now getting back to the passenger cars that are suppose to go with it.. well long story.. but here goes.. lol.  I didn't like the version that comes in N scale.  But,  BUT, there is an old Union Pacific color of gray and gold pin stripes.  Ok.. turn the 'Way Back' machine to a time of Union Pacific's early days.  They had the colors of gray and gold pin striped.  Then U.P. bought?... Hiawatha?... then U.P. went with the Freight Yellow and then the U.P. Yellow.

So anyways.. I ended up with a Hiawatha E6B diesel.. as you see in the above pic, but with the U.P. Gray and gold pin stripes. Sort of catching it all in the transition.   I wish I could take a pic of the old U.P. gray and gold colors .. but most of my stuff is packed up.  I did try looking this morning.. along with the Circus stuff for Rob.. but yeah well.

So much for my morning chatter.

Hello ...

Paul ... Good to see you! ... When I road on the Haiwathas, they were UP yellow. The Super Dome was a nice ride.

Speaking of UP ... Jeff, the geeps look good.

Keith ... I like the MILW E6 in your photo. An E6A is with cab. An E6B is a booster unit with no cab. Photo is an E6A.

Ulrich ... You said "Made the on-line immigration test on the Canadian Government´s web site this morning. Despite our age, we would reach a sufficient number of points to be eligible for immigration. Good to know! If I could include  a job offer, it would be a no-brainer! Well, if ...." .... Alberta has been doing well because of the oil business there. Worth looking into. Or the Banff/ Lake Louise area would be scemic.

Bill T .... Good to see you.

Ray .... Looking forward to seeing your quarry pix when it is completed.

Strong Italian Roast coffee in a  UNION PACIFIC  mug, please.

***Garry, I have both plenty of old screening & mosquito netting I saved for just such fencing. Now, thanks to you, I know how good it "can" look. Going to try some as a high fence around the wife's drive in theater to keep the cheap little people from watching movies for free.

Speaking of the Hiawatha, if that N scale set with the 4-4-2 wasn't so bloody expensive, I would love to have one. For the price they're asking, it should come with DCC & sound, yet it has neither. I'd be happy with just the 4-4-2 in black with DC if it was offered in the same price range as a War Time GS-4. Actually sculpted then cast a shell for one as a kid but didn't have the skills to make it really work. Now I don't have the energy or eyes to try such a project again. They sure are cool looking sets though.

Have much to do today. Catch y'all later.
