Good, ah, Afternoon!

Didn't get in here for breakfast so I'll have the hot turkey sandwich and acup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug for lunch.

Todd, recycling is required by State Law in NYS.  All too often ignored by the homeowner.  Supposedly there are fines for not recycling certain materials, but I have never heard of anyone getting nailed.  Kinda like being fined for driving and using your cell phone..........Whistling  About 25 years ago Geneva decided to "privatize" waste pick-up.  They said it would save the taxpayer $200 a year!!!  Wow.  So they fired all the empoyees working on trash pick up, sold the trucks, and gave us a list of "authorized" companies for the job.  Oh, you could for $10 a quarter put all your garbage in the back of your vehicle and wait in line for a couple hours every Saturday morning at a location downtown and put your trash in to a waiting truck...... (Wonderful way to spend Saturdays).  So we hired a company to pick up the trash, ony (at THAT time) $65 a quarter.  Lets see... Oh, I remember, it saved me $200 a year in taxes.  Hmmmmm.  Wonder why my taxes didn't go down THAT year?????  Sometimes The math should be done before changing the system.  Oh, we also now have trucks from 6 or 7 different trash haulers driving down every street in Geneva every week.  They can't figure out why there are more potholes and repaving to do now either.......Whistling

Anyway.... recycling is handled by the County Landfill which is operated by Cassella Waste.  They have a separation facility at the landfill so we don't even have to separate out different kinds of recyclables.  Just put them in the Blue box or next to it and they do the rest.  Pickup is done by whatever trash hauler the household has hired.  When prices for one kind of item go down, they simply store it at the landfill for when prices are better.

My granddaughter arrived about 9:45 this  morning and left not long ago.  We got out Thomas, but she is now old enough to really like Grandpa's trains.  We spent about half of the time down cellar in the train room.  She wasn't happy that I couldn't run trains very far, as the track is torn up at the top of Bare Mountain.  So we ran a loco in the new room, and she learned how to set the toggles for the route of the trains.

Have to get going.  My hearing aid is in and I have a 1PM appt. to pick it up.

Later!

Robby P: Good job on the service station. There's an old one in Leesville that looks very much like it. It's a burger joint now. Fatboy's & Skinny's.

Ulrich: Keep your fingers crossed. Something may come up yet. We have Social Security woes here too. No cost of living increases for 2 years or more, cut backs in how much Medicaid/Medicare pays for and we're expected to cover the increasing costs with less and less.

Robby P. - I see that the service station is looking for help - can I have the job?

It is now three weeks since I had my interview, and still no news. Is that good or bad? Somehow, I don´t feel well about it. The German government is planning to cut down on social expenses. How can we live with even less? At the same time, our state parliament has increased the remuneration package for the representatives. I don´t understand this world anymore.

Sorry, guys, for not having anything positive to post. I even start to get reluctant posting anything. I am not in a good spell at the moment.

Robby- Looks Good! I have the same gas station. I'll have to take some pictures of mine. I also tried to put an interior in mine. You are right the window is so big, you almost have to. It was my first attempt at an interior, and I tried to make it look like the Shell station we had here before convenience stores filled the interiors and service bays. We had an old couch and chair (didn't match) from someones house, an old coffee table and a lawn chair. Remember the cigarette machines and vending machines where you had to pull the handle to get what you wanted? Oh, maybe you're too young. Anyway, there was more room in the Shell station than in the model, but that was the feel I was going for. So far all I have is the counter and an outdoor plastic chair.

Good morning. Coffee please. Guess I'll go out to Mom's house again and see what I can get done before work.

Recycling. Yes, we try. Not really very hard, but we try. Our recycler that does our town, at no charge to the individual customer, made it so difficult to recycle we stopped. They kept changing what you could and could not put out. It seemed about half we put out would come back. What they took last week they didn't this week. But would the next. Wouldn't take a certain kind of cardboard one week, no little rings around the milk jugs next week, colored glass, then clear glass. Newspaper and plastic milk jugs, with or without the little plastic rings was about all they took when we stopped. Oh and of course metal and aluminum, with or without labels. It changed so much we couldn't get a straight answer on, other than newspaper and metal cans, what they would take. I varied depending on what they got at the recycler they use. Colored glass was the first to go. They couldn't get enough to even break even. A truck load to St. Louis lost them money. That doesn't mean we don't try to recycle, but, We don't take the newspaper anymore, we buy most vegetables in the frozen state in a bag (the kind they apparently don't recycle). The cans generally do get thrown away. The boxes are the kind that, at last attempt, they will not take. For corrugated cardboard there is a dumpster next to the police station we use for that and the store bags, well, some of them get thrown away yes, but that is because many are repurposed as doggy poop carriers for when Missy seasons the ground on her walks. When the amount gets excessive (unused as a bathroom of course) they get packed back to the Walmart and put in their recycle box so they can remake them into more little puppy poopy picker uppers. So we try, but admittedly are not the most conscious. Buddy of mine recycles almost anything he can. He will drive all over Springfield to deposit something. I'm not that dedicated. I guess I could set the few cans out.

EDIT: Well didn't realize that was THAT long.

Woke up this morning at a little after 3 am. It sounded like the sump pump was going wild and something was wrong. Went downstairs and stood there for a while but all was well. It's picked up speed of course, but it's understandable with the amount of rain we received from the time I went to sleep and the time I woke up. It's slowed down now. I must have been dreaming. But I was awake. Hmmm. While I was up and downstairs anyway, I did some sanding on the streets of Gold Creek and test set the town so far. And of course tried to decide what colors I am going to use for the streets. Concrete, old, like uptown Williamsville. Wait, maybe uptown is asphalt. ????? ALL MY LIFE and I don't know what the streets uptown are paved in OMG!!! I drive/ walk on it EVERY DAY!!! It's ONE BLOCK LONG for crying out loud. We sit up there at the stop sign and count the people who actually come to a complete, or at least close to complete, stop. I don't believe this.!! Oh, I forgot, never mind, yes I do believe it, after all we are talking about me here.

Have a Great Day!!

Here's a few shots of my gas station.   I still need to add some detail work (inside and out).   I also have to repaint some places.

The one picture is some small branches that fall from a tree in the backyard.  I have a couple on the layout, but on the layout they look like that shown in the picture.   I do cut off the bulb things, but then it looks like a dead tree.  Does anybody have a idea of how to make them look better.   Heck its a free tree, and I have a lot of them!!

Good morning all,

I spent last night cleaning the floors in the basement train rooms.  I have to do the main train room tonight then redo the laundry room one last time.  The good thing is I’m finding all those little parts that flew off into oblivion while working on the layout.  Still haven’t found anything that was lost to the flood waters, then again this time it was only 2” to 3” of water in the basement.

Ray, our City stopped all recycling claiming they couldn’t afford it, I think it should be a law requiring all municipalities to provide some form of recycling to the residents. Heck they are charging me $14/month to pick up my trash you would think they would do recycling.

Garry, that is a nice area to live in, my only problem with it is driving through Detroit to get there.  Next time I have to drive through on a Friday afternoon I may push on to SR23 head north to Novi then cut across.

Sam, congratulations!

JP, it’s always hard to lose a pet.

 Good Afternoon,

did not make it into the Diner yesterday - had to settle some legal issues for a friend (and got a little money for that Smile).

It is hot and humid outside, with a good chance of some nasty thunderboomers over the coming night - not my kind of weather!

Zoe, a tall glass of homemade lemonade, please.

Have a good day!

Gooooood morning.   Its raining, and probably all day.  Time to get some MRR in.

Hopefully today I can get the gas station done.  I will just wait to glue the roof in, since I want to add some inside detail work.   I also have to go to the LHS and pay some on my "cement company".  This plant is for the cement trucks.  I was going to put a siding in for a couple of hoppers thou.  Its $40 for the kit, and the lady at the LHS is letting me put it on layaway.  I didn't have any money at the time to put down, but she said that's fine.

I have to also go out later and get something for dinner.  Maybe Taco's.  Last night was sloppy joe night Dinner.

Well I will pop back in later.

Morning guys!

Hope you all slept well.

howmus

I think it would be great to see Jeffrey get a custom van!!!  Unfortunately I can't help out.... I'm officially broke for the rest of the month.

Let me set the record straight:

No, No, No. We would all "chip in" not in $$$ but in letters to the cable TV show called Overhaulin' {I thinks its on TLC channel}  where they "steal" someones old car or truck with the help of family and friends. THe car is usually a "project car" that someone has not gotten around to, ran out of money to refurbish, can't find parts for etc.

Overhaulin' then takes the car, tears it COMPLETELY down and restores to origninal, or even more improved version FOR FREE for the car buff all done in a week, while the car's owner "thinks" it's been stolen cuz that's what they were told by fake cops who work at Overhaulin'..They find the parts they need, change what needs to be changed, or fabricate/have fabricated the parts they need to rebuild it- better, stronger, faster!.

The cars/trucks/vans, a week later, are returned to the owner in pristine super condition!

This IS mostly done for California owners and cars, but you never know they might just take an out of state van to do!

Now that I've explained it to all, even Jeffrey would know now so it's not a secret anymore. Rats.

I HAVE to let my back rest today no doubt about it, but i think we will get into things to do, and I won't. My other half is off today, unless getting called in. SO maybe we take a "do nothing, go nowhere" day.

Then again maybe we go shopping finally for that new waterfall pump. Can't really garden as supposedta rain today and temps only 63*!!! Great for working the garden, but lousy and wet doing so. Thank Goodness I had the foresight to build a large raised brick planter and put the pond in it {raised above ground} that I can sit on the edge and work sitting down! I saw skeeters starting inthe still little remaining water from the tstorms we had the other day. DOn't seem to have any more skeeter pellets so have to get some of those too.

Well, HAve a great day and try to thoroughly enjoy what you are doing today! Be it work, play, or nothing!

Evenin' folks!

Flo I'll have a hot fudge sundae and a cup of decaf.  I'll go sit in the back booth and relax for a while.

JP, I too got got choked up reading about Hunter.  Those decisions are always so hard to do, and pets get to be so much a part of the family, it is like losing your closest friend.  I'll keep you in my prayers for a while.

I think it would be great to see Jeffrey get a custom van!!!  Unfortunately I can't help out.... I'm officially broke for the rest of the month.

Spent most of the day down at church with the guy from the Sound Company.  As far as we can tell we lost (or isn't w*rking right) the power conditioner module (it is working, but is reading a different voltage than it is putting out so he wants to replace it), the Mackie 1604 mixer (fried!), the hearing assist system, and both recording mics (old condenser mics hanging from a couple of lamp fixtures.  As of now we have the podium mic and all the radio mics up and working through my old 1202 Mackie mixer (one I used for on location recording).  I will need to get together with the guy who usually runs the system and readjust levels before a funeral taking place on Saturday.

The good news is tomorrow I get my hearing aid back!!!  Yeah!  Also my son called a few minutes ago and is going to bring my #1 granddaughter over for a vist tomorrow while he takes #2 granddaughter for the doctors appt.  I think I will be getting up early tomorrow to clean some house.

Got a little bit done in the location where the new turnouts will be.  Cut out a section of the mainline to fit in the turnout.  I also soldered the 2 turnouts I have finished together with railjoiners.  This enabled me to locate exactly where the cord roadbed needs to go for the new turnouts and second mainline.  I have 3 more turnouts to construct and  about 15 feet of hand laid track to do in this area.  As soon as the next turnout is added, I will be able to see how much room and exactly where the quarry will go.  Then the whole thing gets taken out and into the other part of the basement to cut the hole and put foamboard where it will become the quarry both below and above the plywood base.  Sounds like fun doesn't it!?

Catch you all later!

Sounds like I'll FOURTH the overhaulin! Well, scraped up the scenery that was drying and put some fresh turf down. the stuff that was down would have set horribly. Now for the RR Museum. I have all three pieces of rolling stock so far, still have room for another piece. Now for the new engine servicing. GP9 #3 rests during some down time in the North Branch Industrial District. Yes, that is a 2 track engine house with one track; I may add some ballast etc to look like an abandoned 2nd line, or may just leave it. GP35 #5 sits on what will be the servicing part of the spur. The ex-Rock Island boxcar in the background serves as storage. Here's a close-up of the boxcar. Then our photographer decided to go do some fishing. First the museum's C-Liner came rolling by with one of the two ANRR streamliner cars. the other car is awaiting windows. since there is no easy way to turn the observation car that was bought with both coaches, it sits on display. The C-Liner, named after a good friend (check my sig) The photographer's buddy snapped one of the coach. And finally here's one of the ANRR's U23B, ex-ATSF U23B #6330 N-JOY!

***G, I'll second uh, third that "Overhauling" idea for Jeffrey.

Well, after a long day running errands with the wife (like taking FIL to Docs) and other stuff, I nailed up all the Private Prop, No Tress, etc... signs around our property.Sign - Dots Going to tripple the number of signs over the next few weeks, but tomorrow I'll start the barbed wire for good measure.Mischief

No train time yet.Sigh

Healing thoughts to those in need.

(Sigh) Long day of getting pretty much nothing done.

G- Oh, I agree they're a good idea and people should get one. Remember "CO the silent killer"

Barry- I'm leanig toward the Pentax k-x. Also, I may be able to only buy the body because my lenses for the K1000 fit, making it cheaper yet. Supposedly. So far that doesn't seem an option, however I can still use my telephoto and my flash. I wanted the K2000 the digital version of my K1000, but they don't seem to be offered by Pentax anymore. They were less expensive too. Guess I waited too long. I can still get them off the web, but they are compact and I don't want to buy one unless I can touch and and feel first. Oh and not as less expensive anymore. My buddy has a Nikon D3000 and is pleased with it. I'm just partial to Pentax only because I've had one for Yeeeeears and it still performs flawlessly.

Uh, Yeah..... What Jeff said goes for here too. So far no complaints about the lack of a deluge today.

Sam- Thumbs Up

JP- Oh I'm so sorry. Your tribute choked me up and brought tears to my eyes. ( I have this huuuuge soft spot for dogs) I pray for your comfort at this time.

OK Jeff gets a custom van. OK by me.

Hey!!!! What in tarnation am I doing here???!!! I have nothing to do and I could be in the train room DOOOHH!

THis may sound stupid, and you may have already covered this route, but is there an auto restoration company somewhere near you or in a bigger city within 1-2 hour drive of you? They may have contacts that could get you what you need, or they may be able to fabricate it for you. Just a thought.

There aren't many auto restorers in this part of the state. Only place around here like that is less than a mile up the road. He focuses on mid 70's to late 50's as a hobby, so what I have is somewhat out of his realm. The newest Dodge van that he has on site is a 79 B250. It's a junker that he uses to store auto body parts in. He has to do some research on it but he's sure it will fit mechanically. The problem is that the wiring on it is a bit different. He has to find the proper interchange manual to see what it says about adapting it to an 81 wire harness. It's not quite as simple as just changing out a harness adapter. Design engineers sometimes have a nasty habit of changing the color codes on the wires. He is looking though and I can't ask for more than that.

I KNOW, I KNOW! EVERYBODY:

Lets all chip in and have Jeff's van stolen off to the guys at the Cable TV  Show "Overhaulin'"  in California!!!   There they will totally restore and update it for him and he won't have to worry about gastanks or steering columns or bondo or paint jobs or anything else!!!!

What y'all THINK?

Sam, glad to see you back! Well, here's some pics of what I've been up to today. sorry for the blur, took me maybe a minute total using my cell phone, just wanted to grab some quick shots: looking down the main: The retention pond (still got a lot to do): I think I'll add this curve to the yard and have it continue onto a shelf at some point. then in the future build a sectional yard. then this yard will function only to serve the North Branch industrial district, there will be a train from the other yard (the ANRR's head yard) to the end of the line (which will be another town named Peach Creek after the town where my all-time favorite cartoon Ed Edd N Eddy was set) and will make set outs on both sides of the layout. More on the ops once I have it all thought out.

Garry,

How's your visit in MI so far?   I bet we were really close...My kids live between Garfield and Romeo Plank, just south of 21 mile road.

Yes, Lee .... Sister in Law and her husband are just north of 21 Mile Road between Garfield and Romeo Plank Road. ... Daughter and her family are near 18 Mile Road and Garfield.

I saw Duke this morning. He was not in the corner booth, and he was not asleep. He did talk about Berkshires a lot. He road on his bike; what a machine! .... He has been in contact with "Attaboy", and perhaps he'll stp in the diner and tell us. He said Attaboy has been busy, but I hope we see Attaboy here again soon.

I spoke with my friend, Gus, back in KY on the phone. He just got another "floor model". His brand new ICRR (Orange and White) Atlas GP 40 with sound DCC was the casualty. The power cuts off at the track when his draw bridge is open, but it was first of three powered locomotive units. The second and third units pushed it over the edge.

Hey ya'll

Not a whole lot planned for today. I'd do more bondo work on my car, but with the temps the way it is and the car in the sun, it dries really fast. I put a blob on an old pan and put in 1 drop of the catalyst stuff and it was unworkable within 2 minutes. Might try later when the car is in the shade.

Chris, that'd be nice. I have someone sending me one already, but I have to make some cuts on them to get it to fit like the protoypes.. Best to have a spare in case I mess up. Sucks you had to sell something you wanted to keep.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I can see from the weather that the weather guesser completely missed the mark yet again. I rather consider him to be like the Trojan princess Cassandra* in some respects.

galaxy

 Hey,

We be (been) having a couple of special locomotives in the neighborhood this morning...

From the Ames Railfans group on Yahoo:

IG2SE-08

UP 1988
UP 2010
UP 7625

Passing KOCH IA NZ198 06/08/2010 11:05 1:36 Early

Scheduled Events
Sched. Arrival BEVERLY IA NZ220 06/08/2010 11:33
Sched. Depart. BEVERLY IA NZ220 06/08/2010 11:38

1988 is the Katy heritage unit, 2010 is the Boy Scout's unit. I thought I heard someone call for the UP 1988 earlier but wasn't sure... grumble grumble grumble. Oh well, the boys from Marshalltown and points west will have plenty of heads-up to go out in the rain and see these. To add insult to injury, there's a 10mph speed restriction through town, something about a cracked...something.

*sigh*

Rerun keeps trying to convince me we need to take a long Doggy/Daddy nap...says it'll improve my mood. I'm not getting anywhere with leads for THAT today...so just might take him up on the suggestion.

Have a good-'un

Todd, I'm REALLY looking forward to getting more work done on that scene. I may go ahead and take the plunge and next chance I get go to hobby lobby and pick up some more paint and also some white glue. Robby, thanks! Galaxy, yes sir it is! Well, I just thought of something; I can bike up to the old Wal-mart (we have two Wally-worlds here) and get a few bottles of white glue to get cracking on some more scenery today. I'm not going to mess with the trackage in the yard anymore because I had another thought abt it. I think I'm going to list what I want it to be able to accomplish and then work that into my changes. North branch will remain the same though.

Good mornin'...bucket of coffee please. Thankyou.

Well, as I try to get back in a better, more civil kinda mood...let's have a little fun at Loving Wife's expense. Here is part of the text of an e-mail I just got from her at her w**k:

"The lady that cut my hair yesterday said I could come back this week for free and have more taken off if I wanted to...and I want to! With the rain today my hair is POOFY!! I feel like one big fuzz ball. I want to stop over there at lunch or on my way home to un-poof me."

Anybody else got a "poofy" wife today?????

Anybody want a "poofy" wife today????

Time to take Rerun out...in the rain...

  "Coffee Please"

Morning all~  Cloudy and who cares what the temperature is.  8:30 AM and I sure hate cloudy mornings.  Nothing to get up for and start singing  'Zipity Do Dah'

Although, aside from having tons of .. well tons of things to do,  I dont' think I'm doing much.  That alternator hasn't been pulled yet, even thought Jeff says its about two bolts worth and a minor connection.  I have two trees to trim,  I may, MAY get around to that.

But what is really on my mind,  I'm planning on going out to the front yard and disconnecting some Outdoor Lighting.  Solar /  Batteries.  Why not?  Well at least I'll be looking at them .. checking out the voltage and stuff. The charge on them shouild be enough .. NOT to burn out the lights.  But hey,  if you guys know me.. I'll be back with photo's.

Now concerning the WPS.  Nah.. I didn't take it the wrong way.  In fact, in many dis-agreements its usually just a 'mis-understanding'  .. things taken the wrong way.  And Jeff,  well his skin is pretty thick.  Although, I said the same thing to myself.. they would replace the wheels periodically.

Now on a side note:  Just to let you all know where I was coming from.  Well.. I guess its been a year now.. since I came to the Diner and I've learned so much.  When I first started here,  I had to learn how to post a pic here on the forums.  Also, I had to learn how to use that dang camera in which my fat fingers and hands never seem to hold the camera steady.  That included losing pics along the way.  I was getting about 1/3 pics of all the photos taken.  I had tried everything, and the only thing was to run them on an old computer in which it went so slow, it could develope about 1/2 the pics taken.  Finally Jeanne said to register the camera (2 yrs later) and get the 'updates' but of course I had to pay money to join (just last sunday) and get the updates.

All is well as far as capturing photos now,  but as far as lighting.  If I didn't use the flash right now,  I wouldn't have a pic to post.  So there ya go~  lol.  Flash or no pics.  I know I went missing for a week, really working hard on the layout just so I'd have something to post in the thread, seems many of week-ends had gone by and I had nothing to show for.

But like I said .. Nah.. of all the things to get bent out of shape for.  It was a healthy side note from the lad.  And usually most things are just mis-understandings.  My mom is famous for favorite sayings... she'd say.."If thats all we have to worry about,  we ought to be greatfull"

Now which one of those Solar Lights do I want to cut?
