Duke visited us a while back and he can testify as to how much "sittin' time" we have normally.

Garry  I went to Grattan near Grand Rapids when JR and his crew were there for a race and there is a fair amount of time to visit between races that the drivers are in.  Unless they are running back to back not to mention work that might need to be done to a car after a race.  Did I get it close JR???

I do have pics in my Photobucket from then.

Best to all on sick call and those recoveringAngelAngelAngel

Talk to you later

Rob,

I'd try some elcheapo flat white spray from Wallymart for most of the structure and seats. While you're there see if they have some reasonably priced little cans of the red and blue brush enamel and some thinner. Experiment on the scrap to thin to effect. If you could find cheap enough red and blue pinstripe tape that would work also (automotive section). A carnival would use a cheap and happy, easy to do and maintain scheme so white with red and blue stripes would look the part. If you get striping tape, we use clear nail polish to seal and keep the edges down. A red and blue stripe in the seat section with the white in between would look the part and be doable. The stripeing tape would also yeild consistent widths on multiple parts.

Garry - most race weekend days start at 5am and end up around 7 or 8 pm. I'm not sure what the Nashville schedule is yet as it's not a race weekend, it's a convention so let me get back to you. Duke visited us a while back and he can testify as to how much "sittin' time" we have normally.

Ulrich - Sorry to hear you're having more of the same issues. Hope they find a cause soon and can make some progress for you.    CUL, J.R.

Coffee refill, please.

Question for ***Jeffrey (or anyone else who knows): Is there a cheaper paint than those little Testor's cans that does as good a job on little plastic parts? (Brand & where to buy?) Want to pre-paint carnival ride parts before assembling, as once together it isn't practical to do so.

Dinked around in the train room, drilled holes and started on some more wiring. Not feeling good today so going to rest a while.

The plan is right now is for me to get the car tomorrow so she won't go to jail Big Smile.

Chris......  Her headaches are much better.   I'm glad she is felling better, but who knew that the next headache would be the car!!

Chris, send her this one of Gaffney, South Carolina.

I will hopefully have the roads down by the weekend, dunno if they'll be painted. I need to get cracking on my picture searches and find some good cuts etc to work into the layout.

A tall glass of mineral water, please, Zoe - thank you.

I am here just to tell you folks, that I am still around. I had to spend the last few days in the hospital, as a "multiple coronary syndrome" (whatever that is) put me on the floor again. They took me in the emergency room in no time at all, saving me from a serious heart attack . Today I was released and we will have to see, what the further treatment will be. I feel very weak, totally exhausted.

See you guys!

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Mornin'. Let's start the day right: double bacon cheeseburger and fries! Big Smile With a bucket of Coke to warsh it down...please 'n thank-ya.

JEFF: THAT first hopper sure reminds me of some the Chicago Central ran. They were ex-KCS with either the gray falling off of the rust orange, or the orange falling off of the gray...was never sure which.

ROBBY P: Good luck with the body shop tomorrow, it's a good thing, I think, THAT the insurance co. will have a rep there with you.  Maybe somebody can finally explain WHY it is they didn't just total the car and call it even. How's your wife doing with the headaches???

SAWYER: I'm liking the town scene... in fact, I'm gonna save THAT pic and send to The Wife. She's collecting pics of a similar nature for research. She's w**king on her next childrens' book, set in a small town...

Much cooler, dryer weather here...and sunshine all the way into the weekend.Cool Lots of w**k stuff.

Spent a chunk of Saturday evening with the Iowa City Amateur Radio Club, covering Field Day activities. Sunday was Mom's birthday, Monday was high school baseball in Tiffin (Clear Creek Amana), last night was to have been an interview with a lady who escorted three WW2 vets on an Honor Flight to Wash. DC. THAT interview collapsed at the last minute. Today is a huge County Board of Stupervisors meeting...THAT wants at least four seperate articles out of it... based on agenda items. Tomorrow is high school softball (Solon), Friday is the weekly "face time" and little league baseball THAT evening.

Maybe...just maybe...I can find a minute or two or RR time......this weekend.

Have a good, safe day everybody...

Donuts? .......... I'll have a TH original donut w/ TH coffee. Thanks.

Looks like a sunny day filled with non-MRR stuff. Oh well. Later, I'll work on the layout.

JR ... When you travel for racing, are you busy all the time, or do you have extra time for MRR'ing? If you have time and care to visit some layouts, you are wlecome to visit here. There are 3 layouts at lakeside here. We're 100 miles from Nashville, TN off I-24.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe all this talk about donuts has made me hungry...  OK, Dark Roast Coffee in a FGLK Mug and a couple of those sour cream glazed ones you got there.  THAT ought to keep my sugar up for a while.

I'll go have a seat in the front booth and see what's going on outside in the yard.  Looks like the're moving a couple tank cars over this way.......  Hmmm.

Got to finish the lawn if possible today and go out to camp and co0mplete the trimming around the tents.  Then I'm going to finish the Turnout.  At least THAT is the plan.  We'll see how far I actually get on it.

best get a move on.

Later!

Good morning. It's 76 and cloudy. The high will be around 87 and there's a 50% chance of thunderstorms today. Hopefully we'll get some rain.

Did some weathering work on some freight cars yesterday and that was about it. Today shouldn't be much different as my ankle is still too sore to put weight on for long. Hopefully it'll be a bit better tomorrow as I'll have to out and about taking care of some bills. Got the grocery shopping to do tomorrow as well.

Jim- You think a Krispy Kreme is big? Oh my friend you need to experience a Mel-O-Crème glazed donut. Slightly larger than a Casey glazed but better. The Krispy's have what, to me, seems like a hint of tasty lemon flavor to their glaze and I do like that, but for sheer fill up the tummy with a raised yeast donut covered in a sugar glaze it's Mel-O-Crème all the way. By the way, I'm with you on the sound. I think I'll stick with the gentle whir of the motor and the clickety clack of the wheels over the joints. The older I get the less of that kind of "noise" I can take. I get irritated pretty easy anymore.

Good morning.  Not as hot today.  The high will be about 74 degrees.

Well I'm off to work in a bit, OH BOY!!!   I tried to show the wife yesterday to make some trees, and she made one.  Not to bad.  Hopefully tomorrow we can get the car.  We are going to meet a Allstate person with the car tomorrow.  They want to make sure its done right as well.   We also talked to our mechanic about going over the car also.  I just don't trust the body shop.

Teen steam fan........We have about 5 pages (estimate) of parts for the car.  The whole back has been rebuilt, from the gas cap cover, to having a new re-panel.   I agree about the 3 weeks, but Friday will be 9 weeks!!!   We will see what happens in the morning.

Hope everybody has a good day.

Decaf coffee in a  SOGGY SOUTHERN  mug, please.

***Ray, towards the base I would estimate the diameter to be over 2.5' but still under 3'. Won't know until I get that far. Decided to let the tree lay for some time and dry out a little. Miniature cows don't mind and are snacking on some of the leaves. I'll get it all cut up with my trusty Husqvarna.

Put all the ferris wheel chairs together for the wee little folk. Will need to paint all the chairs (wife wants them red white & blue), before the little folk sit in them. Wonder if there is any way to find a brass replacement worm gear for the poorly made plastic worm gear with the same spaceing?

Cold Mountain is back in the pasture with the herd.

All is well tonight on the ol' farm.

Have a nice night, y'all.

Yeah, it is funny, Todd.  My Impala (2001) was built in Plant 2, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, meanwhile my Chevy truck (1976) was built in Atlanta, GA.  The Canadian plant that built my Impala now builds Camaros, and the truck plant in Atlanta produced its last vehicle in 1993 (a Caprice, last truck was built there in 1982-83) and was subsequently torn down.  Oh well, stuff like that happens, and when you have to build a "reasonable" (read: CHEAP) product that the public will buy, then you have to move the labor to somewhere you can do just that.  That's the unfortunate thing that's happened with the US as a whole, our economic base has moved away from manufacturing and moved into service, which is why we can't buy a tv made in the US, and a lot of "our" (read: Domestic automobiles) are built elsewhere and sold here.  That's enough for me, I think, I see the soapbox creeping out to come and get me, so I'd best hush.

I'm up waiting for Amy and the girls to get home, she's at her dad's house helping out with somet things and while I know that I could easily go to bed and just get up when they get home, I'd rather not have to deal with falling asleep, being awakened to them coming home then trying to get BACK to sleep.  Oh well, guess I'll hang out in here and see whom all comes in for the late-night stuff.

Evening. RBF and a piece of Gooseberry pie please. The search goes on for Dad's DD214. I've seen it but where in the last two years is a question yet to be answered.

The older I get the less of that kind of "noise" I can take. I get irritated pretty easy anymore.

Bama- Kinda funny ain't it. A "foreign" car is built more in the U.S. Than most "American" cars are. Of course, Canada and Mexico are in America.

Light is on in the layout room yet I have not been in there longer than to turn it on this morn. Maybe tomorrow. I don't have anything to do until....... Oh who am I kidding.

Prayers for those in need.

Robby, kudzu soup? oh lord. Glad you'll finally hopefully get the car back.

Well, the beach wasn't much. Was really windy. I read for the most part; I get real bored swimming unless I'm hanging out w/ friends.

Today finally got the DPM touched up and the walls glued together. Next is window glazing, then the roofs. I think this will be how I arange them, but I want to get one more store:

 Evenin Folks!

Flo. just a decaf for me tonight.

Got less than half the lawn done today.  It grew like crazy the last 3 or 4 days with the rain and hot muggy weather.  I'll keep at it tomorrow, may get it finished.  In between while waiting for the batteries to recharge, I'll run out to camp and finish the trimming around the tents.  Should get THAT done at least.

I am almost finished with the trailer.  If I had all trhe hardware I need, I would have got it finished early this evening.  I gave up and decided I heard the trains calling my name, so I went and w*rked on the Turnout for a while.......

Rob, what size is the tree?  My saw is a Sachs - Dolmar 16" bar.  It can handle up to about 30" diameter if you do it right.  Lets see, You live where???  Oh and can I have the wood for the stove? WhistlingSmile,Wink, & Grin  If I lived close by you, I would certainly go over and help you out.  Glad to hear that the Mare is getting better also!

Robby, hope you get the car fixed and returned soon.  What a hassle to have to go through!

Got a hold of the Director of a museum where my district of the NMRA will be holding its Summer Picnic and he has agreed to give a talk/tour of the museum with a bit of the history of the place. So it looks like I have all the ducks in a row and can get some info out to the membership in the next few days.

Well, I think it is time to turn off the lights and cut some Zzz

Catch you all later!

Good Evening Everyone,

Well I have the MRC decoder back into the decapod and it not only sounds better, it actually runs better. There is still the MRC problem of the chuff not always starting in synch with the loco but it is just a momentary thing. The engine was also stalling on 2 Kato Unitrack turnouts which had never happened before and doesn't now that I have the MRC back in. Digitrax make great motor decoders but their sound ones are really poor.

Jim and Rob, I solve the many loco sounds at once by isolating the service yard where the locos are stored so I can shut off the power and not have to listen to ones I don't want to hear. You can mute the sound on each loco but having a shut off is a lot easier.

Well I have just discovered that we are out of milk and even though it is nearly 10 p.m. I'm heading to the store as I just can't start the day without my Raisin Bran. First thing in the morning is one time when I really like a routine, the same routine, every day. Yes I'm in a rut but it is a comfortable one.

See you tomorrow,

CN Charlie

Robby, I know where your car was built!  Your vehicle was manufactured by Hyundia Motors Manufacturing of Alabama (HMMA), at their plant in Hope Hull, AL (where my parents and grandparents live).  The plant is rail-served by CSX on the CSX Dothan Subdivision (the same sub that I'm modelling).  The engine, if it was a  4-cylinder was imported from South Korea, but if you had the V-6 it was also built in Hope Hull.  The rear suspension and body panels were built at Glovis Manufacturing just outside of Montgomery, AL (actually about 15-20 minutes to the west of the plant).

Ok, ok, enough of my babbling on and on, I just thought it was interesting to see an Alabama-grown vehicle on here....

Well y'all its been intersting for me so far.  I've been once again tapped to run the fireworks stand for our church (partnered with a pastor that owns an import company and is able to get the fireworks.  We sell them and a portion of the profit goes to us).  So far, so good with that, no problems that I can speak of.  I haven't had any time to do anything MRR-related aside from reading the July issue.  Enjoyed it as normal and it went into the stack of this year's MRRs.  Going to really start cataloguing them so that I can find information and articles for future reference.  The wife and I have decided that this year we're going to go on vacation up to my Aunt's house in Beaufort, SC.  Going to go and catch the Water Festival that they have.  Amy and the girls have never been, and I haven't been to one in about 6 years, so its going to be fun.  We will be leaving on Thursday, July 22nd and not returning until Monday, July 27th.  We are going to thoroughly enjoy ourselves on this one.  I might even get to do a little railfanning while I'm out since a goodly portion of the trip has a fairly active NS mainline running adjacent to the road.  Other than those things I've been w**king, keeping my shop/mobile repair business going (been a little slow, but lots of people are interested in getting jobs done....just have to actually commit and get their funds together), keeping Amy and the girls straight, and of course getting my necessary and needed rest.

I'll just have a RBF for the night, might see if I can scare up some pictures of the rails along my proposed driving path and see if I might be able to see something fun.

Good Evening All,

Getting ready to head off to the museum in a few. Back at the iNvisible scale display to see what we can do to keep the project moving.

Jeff - I think the latest boxcar  is your best ever. Nice job!

Jim - I'm not the oldest person on the team, but most of the crew in in their 20's or 30's and the senior mechs are mostly early 50's, not old geezers like the truck driver and I.

Garry - I'll be in Nashville July28 to Aug 1 for the Z-Car Club convention. Hard to believe but the Datsun Z is 40 this year.

Speaking of iNvisible scale, does anyone know where a good deal on Grandt Line windows and doors can be had? I'll probably need a bunch to scratch build a bunch of hat factories that surrounded the rail yards in Danbury.   CUL, J.R.

9 weeks Rob, what happened to your car? I work on them with my Dad, well, I've seen some bad damage. We actually have an 09 Kia in the shop. The parts list includes 2 new fenders, new hood, new core support, A/C condenser, impact bar, front bumper cover, headlights, I think that's it. That was the parts list from the tear down. Best take it to your regular mechanic, or just look into any door jambs for new paint on the weather stripping.

Afternoon boys,

WEnt to Dr to get new scripts for my pain meds.

Also had him look at my shoulder. It has bothered me off and on for years but gets worse everytime it happens. He is concerned about rotator cuff issues. Just what I wanted to hear. Know two people with bad torn rotator cuff issues who are not faring well, even after surgery.

well, I'm exhausted form my outing so see ya all later.

Have a great night!

 Good afternoon.

Well went out of town this morning, just to do some shopping.  The body shop called and said the car will be ready Thursday.  Of course we will go over it with a "fine comb".   My wife emailed the body shop manager about getting "compensated"  for the time it took them to do the car (Friday will be 9 weeks).  No email from him yet.  She's talking about calling the news channel people.   I'm sure the *&$# will hit the fan Thursday.

Hope everybody has a good afternoon.

Extra strong coffee in a  UNION PACIFIC  mug, please.

***Ray, when you're all doen with your chores, care to swing by and help remove a down tree?

***Jim, I've heard the same thing regarding multiple sound locos, but I would still be inclined to try it. Do the 2nd & 3rd units in a full scale train switch their sound off?Whistling

Lost 2 trees to the storm last night. One BIG tree that crashed through 2 fences, landing into the riding arena plus a cedar tree across the driveway. Was able to move the cedar with the tractor, but the other tree will require lots of chainsaw work. Ugh! (will take a pic of the big one)

It's raining lightly as I type with a little thunder off in the distance. Guess I can't start up the chainsay yet. Awe, too bad, eh?Smile,Wink, & Grin Another day I will not need to water the garden...excellent.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob
