Good morning, (hangs head) I know, I know, missed it again. I overslept. Didn't sleep at all to speak of last night Brenda had the weather channel on the TV in the bedroom all night in case they sent out a tornado warning. We had watches until 2:00am with a very nasty supercell storm to our NE heading SE. That would have missed us unless it strung out or a sister storm popped up. We sat on the backprorch and watched the light show from the storm about 30 miles away. I was a tall one. I cannot sleep with a TV on. The noise doesn't bother me, it's the varying brightness' of light that jolts me awake every time the screen goes from a dim shot to a bright shot. She, does just fineZzz.

Robby- I know what you mean. Some appraisals make no sense. Some count upgrades some don't. (which is the oddest thing) Some take paint into consideration, others say, a new owner may paint anyway so it's not a factor. Same with carpet. Unfortunately it's the appraiser the bank deals with is the one you have to accept. Sometimes you wonder if there was another "appraisal fee" you missed.Whistling

Jim- Sorry about the computer. They didn't notice these things when they had it the first time?

PC!!!- Great to see you, we were just asking about you. Just heard from Ryan too. Glad to hear the wifes program is working. 60 lbs, that's great. Sorry about the shin bones. It sounded so promising when he was recovering. We'll just keep prying for a change in prognosis. Not gonna ask about the trains as it sounds like you haven't had much time. Have you?

Today I must get the ladder and drop it off at moms house, visit her at the Stalag, then back to move some more stuff and clean the gutters and replace this light bulb in the basement stairwell that comes from the garage that is about 650,283 feet up above stairs using the aforementioned ladder, then back to mow the yard. I must at some time visit the train room to....., well I just must. It's Sunday, one of Sundays laws ya know.

Have a Greta Day!!!

Morning ya'll

The stuff from that oil spill is getting close to here. tar balls and oil slicks have shown up within half an hour's drive already. figure in a few days it'll be in walking distance.

Philip, Good to see you back. Sorry to hear about your son.

Jim, Yup, it has both: http://www.hebners.net/Caboose/bn/bn11710.jpg Orignally it was an SLSF bay window caboose. So far that's the only picture I've been able to find.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good morning!

We are having rain, thunderstorms, and a tornado warning as one confirmed touched down at the other side of my county at the border with the next county W of here. It is flatter there than here, hence an area near tehre named "Big Flats" as wide open flat valley there.

They say to go to a shelter or seek shelter, but a trailer doesn't offer much, and my other half is concerned. I understand the concern, but when it comes to such storms there ain't often anyplace to run to safely. If we pack up cats to go to MIL then we could get caught in a tornado on the way there or it could hit there too. Power is still on so that a good sign. A/c is off so it's warming up here but better that than blow a compressor if power goes out.

PC good to see you again!

Well! I guess I won't be doing any gardening today!!! Like For sure!!

Maybe shopping but the way its raining, maybe not. Hmm. No hail YET, thats interesting.

Hope everyone is safe and stays safe!

Oh, and thoughts and prayers for those along the gulf who are: getting oil in their area on land; loosing their livelyhood due to the oil spill; Seeing cost increase due to lack of seafood or other reasons. BP really blew this one and I think Obama dropped a ball on it too. BP will *magically* go bankrupt and will walk away and wash its hands from all this leaving us with what could be the biggest disaster we have ever faced, bankrupting this country to try to clean it up and with land lost to permanent damage from the oil spill. Unfortuantely. Mark my words. The worst part is Europe and Scandanavia OFFERED to send ships/skimmers/equipment etc. to help with clean up efforts and BP TURNED THEM AWAY. Obama should have jumped in then and overrode BP and said YES,PLEASE COME HELP! SOrry for this rant! SoapBox

Good to hear from you Jeffrey.

Pray candle is lit for those with special needs!

Have a great day!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have the breakfast bagel to go this morning.  Oh and fill my travel mug with dark roast if you would.

PHILIP!  Good to see you sir!  Glad your wife is doing well, but saddened to learn your son will have to have the major surgery.  Will keep all of you in my prayers.  Biker Church, huh.  Sounds interesting.  Our local paper had an article saying that the National Harley Convention will be held here in Geneva again in 2011.

Barry, howdy!

Got to get moving.  I have to open the museum this morning.  Doubt with the weather today we will have many visitors........

Later!

Good Morning--

Phil!!!Sign - Welcomeback!!!!Smile

Great news about your wife! Not so great news about your son though---but the coaching job will keep his mind off'n the difficult patches--

We did not see you coming in ---now that you're here we can fill you on some things--I had a heart attack with a cardiac arrest thrown in for good measure--I'm doing pretty good according to me docs though which may say something--

I am restarting my layout as a shelf--13' long layout 2' wide of the GEXRR between Hensell and Goderich---there may be an extension to London eventually--Whistling Eric's layout will be still the same one he always had and we got most of it up and running---

Good morning.  We are under another tornado watch.  That's three days in a row, we have had a watch.  Even the wife asked if we moved to Oklahoma.

Not much planned for me today.  I did go by a LHS and bought a "gas station".  I will work on putting it together today.   Then we have to go and grocery shop Whistling.

PC........Good to see you back in here.   That's good news about your wife, but not good news about your son.  I hope it all works out.   At least coaching the smaller boys will ease his mind.

What up all?

Yeah, I know......look what the cat dragged in!

It's been a while since I've popped in.  Guess it's time to say hi and do an update.

The wife has lost 60lbs since her bypass surgery in January.  There were a few compliciations, but it seems thats all behind us now.  She's starting to run circles around me!

My son looks like he may have to have that real nasty surgery in a few years.  They did a surgery on his knees about 8 months ago that was hopefully going to make it so he didn't need this nasty one, but it looks like it didn't work as well as hoped.  Now, once he's stopped growing, they'll have to saw both of his chin bones in half, twist them a bit, then screw them back together.  It's not a fun process at all, but without it he'll eventually not be able to walk.  His heelcord surgery has healed up nicely though, so thats good.  He's been asked to coach the younger boys on his basketball team since he can't play anymore.

Me.....I'm preaching at a couple of churches these days.  I still work for the phone company, but I've been working with my home church on some major projects more and more (like this one.....you're all invited: http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/BikeNite.jpg ), and I'm working with a biker church quite a lot (Crosspointe Biker Church: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/profile.php?id=100000566562601 ).

I've also been working on my bike a lot.  http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Drifter/850A0106.jpg  It's really shaping up I think.

So, I guess I've got some reading to do to catch up on all of you..........

Evenin' folks!

Flo just a decaf for me.  I'll go sit in the back booth and rest for a bit.

Went over to my son's house to help watch the granddaughters during the Garage Sale my DIL was having today.  She sold quite a lot of items today, but she still had a lot of stuff left when I took off.  Little Emily (the 1 yr. old) has now started walking full time.  For a couple of weeks after she started to walk she would take 3 or 4 steps, then get down and crawl.  It takes 2 adults to keep track of her.  She is also starting to say a few words.

I had to leave mid afternoon to get ready to go to church to keep an eye on the sound for a "little" wedding.  THAT is what my minister called it yesterday when we were checking the sound system.  He said if we couldn't get the sound running it was OK because it was a small wedding and he could do it without a mic......  The wedding party had 9 Bridesmaids and 9 Groomsmen.....  I don't think the church was this packed on Easter!  Not only THAT but I didn't know one person in the entire crowd.....  The couple were not members of our church either.

I came home, changed my clothes and tried to finish the lawn.  Got about 2/3rds of what was left done and then took a break for supper.  Plugged the mower into the charger as I figured it wouldn't quite finish on the one charge.  Hour and half later I tried to finish (the temperature had cooled down several degrees as well) and got all but about 100 square feet done when I ran out of battery.  Depending how much rain we get tomorrow I may finish after I get home from the museum.

I am doing the Docent thing again tomorrow.  Weather doesn't look good.  High is supposed to be in the mid 60s with rain and thunderstorms.  If there is thunder, we close the track down.

No model railroading today........Grumpy  Hopefully for a couple hours tomorrow night.

later!

Good Evening, Janie - If the cook has some of Ryan's seasonings, I'll have a smaller ribeye (medium done) with that on it, plus baked potato, sour cream and butter and chives, peaches, and if you have it, some fresh asparagus, with a Rio Grande mug of coffee, please. And after dinner, a hot fudge brownie a la mode and a refill on the coffee. Thanks! Dinner

LSWrr
Flat cars.... Bowser makes some very nice flat cars and the proto 2000 flat cars are nice the decks are seperate from the body. Take a look through my progress albums and see what I did with some of my old Tyco decks, if you're impressed it's a simple process and I would be more than happy to tell you how to do it

Lee, thanks for reminding me about your photo treasure chest! BetweenTHAT, Ray's pics and a few emails to you guys, I may have my (coming soon to me) Athearn flatcars looking like much more than mere BB kits. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Keith, you can say what you want, but I'd say you are doing an AMAZING job on your layout! Bow And since you're doing it in iNvisible scale, DOUBLE BowBow!! You do realize that you're gonna have to have the floor in your living room redone with tile or linoleum, right? Otherwise, your carpet's gonna get way too soggy when you have guests in and show them the finished layout. Thumbs Up

I got a look through the new MR issue - some very useful stuff, including the article on the gondola loads (which includes detailing even commercial loads, weathering them, and building your own loads). I'm still trying to figure a good base color of grey to use to paint the I-beams and H-columns loads. Our local place only had the white styrene ones, not the already grey ones like Robby began with. One more step... and another coat or so of paint to get what I want.

Galaxy, Jeff, and our other Diners dealing with ongoing health problems - no need to act like everything is peachy-keen for any of you. I have heard plenty of stories from people I see at work with physical problems on top of any mental health issues like depression (or maybe that would be more like due to their dealing on a daily, continual basis with lack of energy, sleep problems due to pain (or not being able to sleep because there's only one way to lie that doesn't (too often) make the pain/discomfort worse in the night. And then to get up on a very few hours of sleep the next morning and deal with it all over again. I consider that - in spite of the physical/medical problems you have - with the things that you manage to get done, I'm sure God has a special place in His heart for you guys, and others who are dealing with personal loads like yours.

Jerry, good job there with the overpass & mirror; seems like you are continuing to make various changes and improvements on the I&S. Thumbs Up What've you and Sallie been doing lately - staying inside the A/C, with the weather as it's been, I'd guess!

Robby, your house reminds me of the Revell farmhouse kit (from back in the 50's and 60's). I have one of those kits (again, awaiting being put together...). Hope with the garage paint, that the appraiser gives you a good valuation on the house. Yeah!!

Tim - do you have any MRR'ing books, or new/older MR issue, etc.? If not, maybe the wife could pick up the (new) MR or (if your stores there are like ours) a RMC (Railroad Model Craftsman) (Can I say THAT name in here?...Whistling). Might save you from going totally stir crazy next week, anyway - that, or check out every RR site on the web! Wink

Welp, I need to finish off my hot fudge sundae brownie (thanks, Galaxy!), as it's almost time for heading home and get a start on my Zzz, just in case I get a call tonight. I think we're supposed to have some rain tonight as a cool front goes through the area. Maybe be either less humid, few degrees cooler, or both tomorrow - I sure hope!

[Edit] Vincent - Just saw your post, now do I have that right? A bay window AND wide vision on ONE caboose? Confused

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Evening ya'll

Weather has been crazy around here recently. It's sunny and hot one minute, then it's thunderstorms the next.

Been working on some train stuff recently. I'm kitbashing a caboose out of a bay window and a wide vision caboose. The prototype is BN 11710, and athearn made a bay-window caboose with the same number. So I bought one and and prepping the bw caboose for when I get teh WV coupla. pics later

Robby, more like $350K+ in floriduh, and this is supposed to be the cheap part of the state.

Todd, what pig-tails?

Chris, I'll try the 50/50 gatoade/water thing some time.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good evening everyone!!..I will have an ice cream sundae with extra peanut butter and marshmallow please...and don't forget the nuts!! I have been driving everyone in the house nuts today. Everyone left to go shopping on me!! I have been stuck here since having surgery on Thursday and I am going stir crazy! I was really looking forward to going downtown to the Taste of Syracuse..(A big food festival) and watching The Charlie Daniels Band play but my luck I would get bumped in the stomach and that could lead to some serious issues. I hate the "helpless" feeling of not being able to do anything. I really do. I have done all the kitchen table workshop modeling I can do today while waiting for various stuff to dry and what not. Now it's just the dog and I and even she is in the other room!! This next week being home will drive me nuts but if I don't chill out and take time to heal I will be in it for the long haul. Even though it was a pretty routine umbilical hernia repair it still hurts like all heck. The pain drugs just knock me out so I have been laying off of them except at night so I can sleep. I hope to get some pics up soon of what I have been working on. Have a good night all and I can already taste tomorrows breakfast!!!

A true friend will not bail you out of jail...he will be sitting next to you saying "that was friggin awesome dude!" Tim...Modeling the NYC...is there any other?

Galaxy.....The other work would be simple things.  New doors, a new porch, etc.....  Plus we have been saying we need those items for a few years now Whistling.

Todd.......We are in the "nice" part of the town, but I agree on the numbers.  The house across the street from us came back at $85,000.   Our house came back at $70,000 and $60,000 (old appraisals) .   That includes all of the new updates.   That house is old, windows are old (blow in when its a bad storm), our kitchen is new, and twice the size of that one.  We have a double lot, two car garage, etc......   Its almost a number game!!!

Rob........We are both kinda nervous about it.  Hopefully we will know something by Wednesday.

Ooo! Pineapple sundae! I'll take one of those please. Just a snack before we, yes we, (she has been doing laundry (must be laundry day all over) while I was at my Mom's house) go for dinner. Now I am hungry and will combine a trip to Big R in Lincoln wiiiiiiiiiiiiith.......a herring! No! Dinner. Then back out to mom's house I hope. Now it's spitting rain again. I have a million little repairs to do on her house. But, I figure I'd best get it empty totally, and then a good cleaning which shouldn't be too rough. The hardest would be washing windows. Brenda will most likely do the cleaning while I do the "direct replacement" repairs. We know how that will go.Banged Head

Robby- I agree, nice house. Not an appraiser, but I'd say here in my area, double lot updated kitchen, four bedrooms, though it's an older home, still probably say, 100 to 150K. Depending on the neighborhood. Reeeeally hard to say, the prices fluctuate so much between towns and areas it's crazy. Someplaces it could go for as low as 75. I doubt much lower. Well it would, but it would have to be in bad shape or baaaaad hood. I hope they do you good.

A buddy of mine has a house that is over 100 years old. Single story but about 2800 square feet with a second floor that contains one big room. Basically a finished attic. This house has been COMPLETELY redone the real wood floors are refinished and beautiful as is the rest of the house. He went to refinanced at a lower rate and the appraisel came in like $30,000 less than the taxed assessors value. Or "Fare Market Value" as they like to unfarely call it. He questioned it and they said "it is redone yes, but it's over 100 years old." My buddy said "Yeah. The STUDS in most of the place. The rest is all new! The remodel started about 20 years ago and finished maybe 5 so the bulk of the house is no more than 20 years." He said...."sorry, the house is still over 100 years old." I hope the appraisor that Robby has doesn't pull that on him. Ignore the upgrades. Apparently around here they tend to ignore updating because of the market. Funny, when you're going for money they ignore them. When they're getting money (selling, or taxes) they focus on them.

Hello guys.

headache moderating. I chipped in and emptied the dishwasher and folded two loads of laundry. That was about what my back could take before a long break and more muscle relaxers and pain killers taken.

Robby P. Up here where I am in the Binghamton NY area, your house would be priced about right. I have been studying it as you may know we are looking for that prized MRR space with a house to cover it. Houses like yours would be priced about right here, But we really want a ranch. WE like one level living, and they cost much more, unfortuantely, often for shorter square footage. I grew up with a mother with MS who spent half her life wheelchair bound in a ranch house. SO I saw the value of one level living. My MIL suffered a stroke many years ago, and at 84 is now barely able to stand up from one electric lift chair to get into a wheel chair to be ridden to the stairmaster lift to take her up to the bathroom and bedrooms floor. SO my other half agrees we want one level. WE both also enjoy the fact that the trailer IS one level, just not enough space {920 sq ft} and no basement!. If we have a good full basement perfect for MRR we will enjoy it till we can't navigate the stairs anymore I guess. I hope you pointed out to the appraiser that the MRR in your basement adds at least $5k if not $10k to the value of your home!!! I hope it comes back appraised for what you need! BTW, what other work do you want to put into it? be carefull you don't overdo it and not get that money back out of it for the neighborhood and comparables on your street if you re-sell.

WEll guys, hope you all got something productive done at home, at work, at other ventures or on the MRR.

I go for nap now the second muscle relaxer and pain killers are kicking in now.

Oh, The prayer candle was lit all AM for those who need thoughts and prayers!

Later guys!

EDIT: I got top honors so strawberry or pineapple or Hot fudge Sundaes with or without nuts all around!

Ulrich......Thanks!!   Even the "brother in law" said a house like that would be $150,000+ in Florida.   We got it for $50,000.   The pictures aren't to bright.  Its been raining all day.  Maybe on a sunny day I can get some better shots.

The house is four bedrooms (we use a small bedroom for a comp. room). One bathroom, and the bathroom in the basement (not finished).  A full attic, with WALK UP stairs.  Not those junky pull down ladders.  I've had my close share on them!!!  Full (new) kitchen.  Dinning room, and living room.  It also has a two car garage.   Oh........A full basement/train room/my man cave!!  The house is also on a double lot.

We get a lot of compliments on the house.  Just wish we had more money to put into it.

Robby P. - that´s a nice house you have there! In our neck of the woods, you´d be in the range of $ 250,000 to 300,000 for a house of this size. Real estate is so much more expensive here Sad

 LUNCH!!!

The house appraisal went good.  The guy said the inside looked real good.  Just a few spots we need to fix outside (chipped paint).   We won't know what its worth till next week.  Hopefully its worth something.

Now I'm on my way to the LHS.  See what I can find to do.

Here's a few pictures.   One is the house, one is the rose bushes we always get compliments on, and the paint I have to fix on the garage.  I plan on painting the whole garage.  This would be the best time for that!!.

 Jerry..... GREAT shot!!

Oh, while I was typing I see Jerry slid a photo in Thumbs UpThumbs Up

EDIT- Jerry! I am impressed. When I first found the mirror, I thought it was for the right track only. Only after closer scrutiny and a few rubs of the eyes, did I realize the mirror is under the whole bridge. TripleThumbs Up for the setup of that shot!

OK, so I was wrong. 50% chance of rain. As I look outside, I'd say it's 100% so if you split the difference I was pretty close.

Ulrich- Don't worry, I won't be sinding it back or anywhere else as I still have it. Sounds like it's going around.

Keith- I am always impressed at the amount you are accomplishing on your layout each time you post a picture. It may not, to you, seem like alot, but to me it seems a LOT and quickly. What is most impressive to me is the appearence does not look like it has happened as quick. Very nice job.

Garry- What it was, the Amtrak car, was a dirty silver car, (imagine that), in amongst the other cars. I would not venture to guess what kind of car it was, coach, diner etc, as I was more trying to make out what it said in the top painted band above the windows. I used the example Santa Fe, but it could have said Pullman or anything. It was about a half mile away at the point I noticed it and angling away. I do know it was a straight sided car as opposed to the Amfleet style that was also in the train. Come to think of it, probably didn't say Santa Fe because I don't think they had a painted stripe where they printed the name.(?)

Not a big deal, but I'm always interested in the things that are more or less out of the ordinary to lend credability to me using things that are not necessarily normal to a railroad. If you know what I mean. My justification of my use of things. Also helps keep me from getting kicked out of a seat at the R.C. AC is better there.

As you can tell I haven't left yet. I guess I'll just take my headache and go anyway or I won't get a thing done. I did lay some more paving to the grade crossing I've got it to the height now, so after it dries and some sanding and a bit of touchup and I should be good to go for THAT.

SOmetimes I feel totally useless. I currently sympathize with Jeffrey's "down time" as the new muscle relaxer tends to put me to sleep as well. I feel tired and worn out just watching teh stuff get done..Sigh

That's a pretty good description of how I feel at times. It's something that most just can't understand until they experience it for themselves.

No, and I wouldn't wish it on them either. The feeling of constant "tiredness" and of "being drained" on more or less a constant basis is rather a bother for sure.A nd I am sure others are probably tired of hearing us bemoan ourselves. well they can just move on and read the good parts in our posts.

I commiserate with you , my friend. We have both had a not-so-good year this year of 2010. ANd we are only half way through.

 Good Afternoon,

turned out to be a nice day today, once the fog had lifted up. Had to run some errands -  last minute shopping for the weekend. Petra made her famous "Nudelsalat" and forgot to buy one of the most important ingredients, typical German Fleischwurst. I had finally changed my tires - it is way too warm to drive around with those fur lined winter tires Whistling

Barry - not again! Didn´t ya see the sign "No Whoopy Cushions Allowed in here!" Zoe feels kind of strict about those, as she told me recently.

Ray - good to hear, that Olivia is doing fine!

Todd - I did not mean to pass that headache on to you, but please don´t send it back. I am glad that mine is gone now.

Tim - you may want to check this page. Terrain for Trains does not seem to be a registered trade mark, but in case someone searches the web to find you, he will most likely see that page first, unless you pay Google a lot of money to move up in the listing.

Against my declared will not to tinker around with my MRR plans anymore, I did play with some thoughts again, only for budgetary reasons, however. Whenever I have saved up some bucks, an invoice pops up, which was not foreseen, but needs payment. Usually not really big amounts, but enough to nibble away my savings. So how to build a layout with nearly no money at all? Well, the answer can only be to strip the plan of all details, which are really expensive. No, I don´t mean locos and rolling stock, but turnouts or points, as the British say. So I have now come up with a "pointless" layout with point to point operation! What are the points for a pointless layout?

  • It saves space
  • It costs a lot less
  • It saves a lot of wiring

Three points pointing towards a pointless layout! All I need is about $ 25 for flex track (which I still have stashed away, but don´t let Petra know).

It seems to me, that there is now no point left to postpone the construction of this pointless layout!

Chloe, as supper time is approaching, I´ll have a bowl of Keith´s famous Polish Chili Verde soup and a beer to go with it, please.

TTFN!

Edit:

Keith - your post popped up, while i was typing mine. Your pics are the proof of what I said. You do have an excellent feeling for creating those scenes!  Thumbs Up

Garry - Germany maybe the most powerful economy in Europe, but in terms of neighborhood relations and friendliness of  people, it is not the country I grew up in any longer. Aside from that, the red tape imposed on us really kills all initiative. The procedure of setting up your own business is a killer, not only in terms of cost. The people leaving Germany behind are not the drop-outs, but the best. When people visit Germany, they only see the beauty of the country, not the struggle of the people to maintain a life under the jack boots of our rules and regulations. As long as there was enough money around, it did not seem to be a problem, but now, as things are getting really tight, it´s a different story.

Hello ....

Ryan... Good to see you ... I can certainly attest that two of your seasonings are outstanding. I'm surprised they are selling slowly. The Gulf situation is a  terrible mess for sure. Are getting a pair of NS high hood SD40-2's? I saw the 1:1 version in Ohio on the way here. A single unit with a long train.

Jim CG ... Yes the Cadiz S-1 looks a little dumb with a hillbilly roof over it now. If you cross a pole barn with an Alco switcher, that's the result.

Gary in MN ... Sounds like you are enjoying the research on the short line. I think modeling a short line can be more fun than a main line.

Todd ... I was trying to understand your comments on the Amtrak train. Was there a private owner car in the train?

Ray ...  The turnout turned out great! Are you switching from another brand? Big Smile

Barry .. Glad you are following doctor's advice. You should be OK.

Ulrich ... My understanding is that Germany is the best of Europe. If 250.000 are leaving Germany each year, I hate to think of how the other countries are. Over here, we have knuckleheads who think we should be like Europeans (with government) ,  and I can't understand why they feel that way. I wish you could talk to them.

Visiting family here in MI means others plan much of my time for me. Some of you may relate to that..

Where's PC?

Morning guys!

I have a headache, just short of a migraine, which i get frequently, though this time I know the cause. I snapped my neck last night turning my head. I have a bone spur on one of the cervical vertebra that twings nerves/muscle and allows the cervicals to kind of grind against each other. I appreciate Ulrich's migraine headaches as I get 2-3 day marathon migraines. Pulling/twinges in my neck can lead to a marathon one too. Oh boy, oh joy!Grumpy

My other half took advantage of the morning coolness and cloudyness to apply the RainX to the windows of both our vans. ALso loaded/ran the dishwasher, and is curently doing all the laundry. Whew! I give thanks and praises and hand claps for those chores getting done. I can only do one or two of those done in any given day with my back the way it is, even with the pain killers and muscle relaxers. I feel bad when my other half has to help out with the household chores, but only working 12 hours this week has allowed time off to help out with the home stuff I just can't really do anymore. leasways not all at once.. SOmetimes I feel totally useless. I currently sympathize with Jeffrey's "down time" as the new muscle relaxer tends to put me to sleep as well. I feel tired and worn out just watching teh stuff get done..Sigh

The Urologist Nurse practitioner doubled my dose fo Flomax permanently and also started me on Avodart. Again, she said I do take a lot of meds that could impeed my ability to pee, but , by the way here's another to take... The Dr.s often complain I take a lot of meds (23 now) but then give me more to take!!

I have yet to try out my new GP7 Chessie Diesel, which I should do soon as if it fails to work I can take it back. IT is a xmas present to myself in JUNE that I should technically wait to xmas to run, but I can't return in the 30 day policy if I wait that long. I have to find the layout, clean tracks and at least trial run back and forth. Then I gotta figure out how to get it apart to lube the gears. Oh Joy again. They should just make it easy as screwing off the fuel tank and voila there is your gears oil away!

Other half wants to go somewhere today to be "productive" but the way the laundry piles are piled up , I think productivity is happening here on home.

Thoughts of Steamtown entered our heads again, but we got  up late and the weather today is iffy with rain and thunders howers. Oh my! I think I see the sun poking through. It is VERY humid here cause it did rain all last night. ANd not sure if htey are running the steam or waiting to run it again for the summer on June 26 with their first excursion., then run all of July and August to Labor day weekend and Rail Fest on wed-sundays.

well i see some nice work in pics shared recetnly.

Homus Ray, you are a better man than I as I would never presume I could accurately build a switch {turnout} no matter how easy they say it may be. I'd have something out of alignment for sure to wreck trains by for sure.

Well I think I go rest in bed for awhile to see if the pain meds help my head.

Have a great day guys!!!

Todd,  Garry, Ulrich Der John,  Quote: " Keith: (again) I hear you on the differing sizes in N. In fact on evilBay N is often described a 1:160 - and 1: 150, sometimes from the same vendor! However, I do agree with Ulrich as well! I can only afford Code 80 track, but find that painted and ballasted, it suits me just fine. I did have a small HOn30 section on my HO layout in Alberta, and used N track for the most part, and the HOn30 track for where the difference in the ties could be appreciated! It's just that I let myself get bent out of shape with figures mostly, some people are about 1½ times the size of others - and I'm not talking children, or even gender differences Big Smile.  It's about then I need to learn to go over to the Rivet Counter!"

LOL... I come to the rivet counter plenty of times.  John,  I thank you for you understanding of the situation.  But you didn't even mention those Pheiser people.. I think they are about 1/200 th ... lol.  But in short I think its the way Ulrich put it.

Ulrich quote: " What counts, is the overall impression, or illusion, you create "  when I read that.. I said.. "What a beautfiul person that Ulrich is~"

Ok.. if some of you have wondered what have I been doing to the layout.  It would seem nothing.. but each little detail takes time.  Take for instance.. my pedestrian walkway.

100_1369.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Only one landing area with struts came in my "Parts Bag" of loose stuff.  The rest I had bashed.  There was only so much room for a walkway and the stairs on one side had to be cut and partially go into the wall.  I have seen that before where stairs and rock and both one.. in real life,  so I'm not too worried about that.

As far as what I am doing today?  Well ...

100_1372.jpg picture by Blazzin55

In the very center of this pic.. is a small rock with 3 trees.  I was going to place a tree planter here.. but decided to add some 'continuitity' and 'follow through' on the rocks instead of a tree planter.  That area in question is a 'drive thru' and partial parking for the station.  yeah.. I know.. but there is only so much room here.

Now for something new and totally exciting.  If you noticed on the last pic.. I have lamp posts/street lights placed in various areas.  Well aside from that.. those lights are 12 volts.

I am looking for a passive lighting system.  I have around the house a Malibu Solar outdoor lighting set.  I believe they are either 12 volt or 8 volt system.  Strictly solar power (solar gain/batteries) speaking...

Can't you hook up these 12 volt lighting to a solar lighting kit?  They both run 12 volts.  Any pitfalls or other issues anyone would care to bring up?   I'd really appreciate it.  Just off hand.. using these..

Shortingswitch.jpg picture by Blazzin55

on most likely in a parallel hookup instead of series.  And I'm sure I'll have to figure out how many lights if possible. Over 30 years ago, I could draw out a 'self rectified' generator and why you use both halves of the 'sign wave', but that area of my brain needs refreshing.  But going with this passive solar lighting seems to be very simple to me.  Please.. I'd love to hear the negs and possible positives in going this route.

Jeff.. to be honest.. I have often wondered where do you get all the energy have to work on all the stuff you do.  Really.. it makes me tired just to read up on the things you do in a day.

Later on today.. I shall take some pics of the pup we have here. I can't believe how much this hound dawg has grown.  I know its because he's around other animals.  That pup has two cuts on his nose and is learning all about cats.  STAY AWAY .. lol.
