Good morning. It's 54 and sunny. The high should be 68 and mostly sunny.Woke up this morning with a blood sugar level of 60. Guess I shouldn't have had that Sam Adam's beer last night. A good starch breakfast has things back in good order now. It's a nice sunny day today but I think my activities are going to be limited to inside the house. My ankle is cutting up pretty bad and I can't walk but a few yards at a time. If it improves later I'll see if I can get out to change the EGR valve on the car. That's a simple job that would take about 20 minutes but I can't do it standing on one foot. I have a very nagging suspision the EGR valve on the car at this time is bad. It's an electronic type that doesn't have a vacuum. I tested it the other day. It has three electromagnetic plungers. One goes up and down cleanly as it should but another one is stuck in the down position and the third has a habit of sticking in between the full up and full down positions. It way just need a good cleaning but I'm seriously doubting that. It's for that reason I got another one and the asbestos seal that goes with it. Yeah, I know all the horror stories about asbestos, but it's OK as long as it's not disturbed, and believe me, I have no intention of disturbing it.

Hi, it´s me again,
Zoe, just a coffee for me, as supper time is approaching - may I stay at the RC? Thank you.
I am just back from a short visit to one of my former neighbors - the one who had helped us so much getting our flat into shape. He is a model railroader and also builds model ships. He showed me his recent work - a tugboat in 1/50 scale, about a yard long. He has added so much detail to it, including sound and smoke. When he starts the engine, there is a big cloud "belching" out of the stack, which slackens off the moment the engine is running - fantastic! The sound system he has installed has a 80mm speaker, which has enough oomph to it to make a terrific, but real noise. He has programmed some other sounds, like seagulls, which appear randomly - great. I will check on this system for use on my layout! Next time I will be with him I will be also taking pictures of his Marklin layout, which has turned into a jewel over the last years (with a little coaching from my side).
It is so good to have friends like him!
My plans to re-enter the world of model railroading on an active basis are taking shape, slowly, but steadily. It will not be tomorrow or even next month, before I will be able to start, but it feels so good to have a perspective. We all need to have something to hang on - a life without those little dreams, that we can make come true, is a poor life.
Sawyer - a big for your attitude! You are a true sportsman - yessir! Life is not at all wins - it is about being able to get up again when you are down (which I am trying to do at the moment).
John - yes, the video showed the Jubilee class loco, not by incidence . Still, my preference would be to go for US outline MRRing, but it is a little to dear to me at the moment. I think it is a workable compromise, with the benefit of catching Petra´s liking for it, as the loco is "so cute" - women!!! Going "British" is in any case better than kvetching about not being able to do some model railroading!
I have bookmarked the link you have sent!

lol, thanks Chris. Like I said, our team has been improving and we're learning how to paly and building chemistry etc.
Ulrich, thank you sir! Winning's fun, but playing for the love of the game is much more fun! And yeah, getting up when you're down is a big thing to learn, but I use my faith in God to keep going because He is the true controller and creator of this world (not tryin to step over any forum rules or anything by saying that though, just stating how I get through my life)
Well, was going to get my permit today but the DMV was closed! fate is conspiring against me to never let me get my permit haha!
we did drop by the SRP Credit Union where people can park used cars for sale over the weekend and there was a fully loaded 2010 CAMARO SS! took some pics, they're the backgrounds on my phone now haha. there was also a 72 Corvette; now that was when the Corvette actually looked good.

Good afternoon everyone!!..I will take the pulled pork platter with cajun shrimp please...and a coke in a frosted mug. It is unbelievably sunny today in upstate N.Y. The whole weekend calls for it with highs in the 40's. Odd for this time of year but I am running with it!! Got a lot of wo*k done on some Bar Mills kits I have in various stages of assembly last night. Mainly the roof work and details. I love building laser cut wood kits cause you can really get creative with color/weathering. I will post some pics when I get some near total completion. I am taking this sunny day and taking the family out for whatever comes our way today!!...I will treat the girls...(wife and daughter) to some shopping and lunch..(it buys layout time points..lol) See ya all later!!...Tim

Unearthed a couple sheets of thin paneling that bends very well. Cut into 6" strips, and the backside painted, will make a nice facia. After griping for two years about how long this is taking to clean out her house, this time it seems I have been able to acquire a few things that will save a couple bucks on the layout. Not everything about this is bad. Hey, as we all know, a dollar saved here and there is a dollar more in the pocket of the LHS.
Gotta get ready for work, put something in the old tum-tum and hopefully grab a few things from the layout room that would be better suited to change residence to the dumpster.

***Ulrich, would love to see a pic of your friends tugboat. Would you believe when I was ready to decide on a hobby, my second choice was model ships, and in particular tugboats. If I won the lottery, I would go out and buy a model of the (for the life of me, can't remember the name of it). And I'll second yours & Jeffrey's comments about having something to look forward to. Finishing my wife's layout with her is my focus, although there are many other issues that keep coming up and getting in the way. Still, whatever progress is made is a plus in my life these days.
Looks like the best (running in DC) match for the new Dash 8-40BW turns out to be a SD-24. That seems like an odd combo, eh? Could run it with one of the larger diesels, but only if there was a good size train behind them, as this Dash loco requires more current to go the same speed. Maybe one day I'll try that DCC thing, but would need my art to start selling like it did some years ago, and I think that is unlikely these days. I'm selling off a couple steamers on the-bay to pay for that BNSF I just bought. Might pick out some other stuff to pay for a new Dash 8-40CW I would like to have.
Have a good day all.

***Jeffrey, then again, you could have married someone equally as messy....I did. Rob
Jeff- I was refering to me griping about taking so long to clean out my Mothers house. I re read and saw it sounded different after coming back than it did when I wrote it. No, Brenda has not complained once about the MRR stuff or any money I spend on it. Nor has she complained about the mess (s) I make. Of course if I happen to slip into her section of the house, I clean up my mess quickly. She is really a great find. Especially for a guy like me. Wouldn't trade her for all the gold in Californa. THAT being said, IF I were to live my life over again, I'm not sure you would be talking to a married Todd.
Just called my sister to find out what time she and her daughter are going out tonight. I've been cooped up over here all day and I'm going to get out tonight even if it's just to grab a cheeseburger. Meanwhile I'm keeping the makers of hydrocodone in business so I at least can get around a bit.
TMarshShe is really a great find. Especially for a guy like me. Wouldn't trade her for all the gold in Californa. THAT being said, IF I were to live my life over again, I'm not sure you would be talking to a married Todd.
I know the feeling... 100% agreement. Sounds like Brenda and Kit are very similar. Lucky for us!
Good afternoon... plate of the dollar cheeseburgers, with a plate of the dollar fries, and a bucket of Cherry RC please 'n thank-you...yup, at the RC.
RAY: I agree with you... learning to "play fair" is a good thing, as-is learning to be gracious in victory as well as defeat. My beef is when "nobody wins, nobody loses, everybody gets a ribbon (or trophy) for showing up today..." Or "you came in 185th out of 186...but you'll get the same ribbon as the guy who finished first! Isn't THAT special??" At risk of THAT soapbox racing out at me... it just seems more and more THAT mediocrity is being emphasized, THAT exceptionalism is being down-played if not flat-out vilified. Can't have a valedictorian anymore...gotta have co-valedictorians, or NO valedictorians. Yeah, there will always be those who take winning to an unpleasant extreme...I've seen plenty of bleacher coaches who "always" know better than the hired coach... I've also heard people expound THAT competition, at any level, is "unhealthy!"
Uh-oh, the soapbox is moving this way...time to change the subject!
SAWYER: You've got the right attitude...in a number of ways! When you guys start pulling-down the wins, it'll feel just THAT much better. As for the cars at the credit union...those wouldn't be repo's would they? A 2010 Camero? Hmmmmm. Sounds like someone couldn't make the payments. They may have beat the holy crap out of it before "the hook" showed up for it.
JEFF: So, you had the Sam Adams last night...and I'm the one THAT woke up with a headache this morning! How did THAT happen???
Yup, woke up with a head-pounder...thought it was going away so went grocery shopping with the Wife (BIG mistake!). By the time we made it back home, I was hoping my head would just explode and be done with it!!! Take a 2x4, smack yourself with it hard...between the right eye and almost to the right ear. Repeat.....Repeat....Repeat.... Yeah, kinda feels like THAT! KEITH, you may want to cover your ears for a minute....OK?.....good. Four Tylenol "rapid relief gel" capsules had zero effect. Once home, added four generic "severe sinus formula" capsules. Took a nap, 'tis 99.9% gone. If'n I'd thrown-in some evil ibuproffen...probably would've been gone quicker, but couldn't find the bottle quick enough!
OK KEITH, you can uncover your ears now. KEITH? Hello? Oh.....he's got his ears covered...
ULRICH: HEY! I like THAT switching module...something/anything in this insanity we call a hobby is much, much better than nothing. JEFF and others already said everything I'd say...so I'll just their comments. I truly believe the reason Loving Wife (Kit) "enables" and puts up with me buying stuff, like the occassional boxcar; is she knows having a hobby helps to keep me "sane." It gives me something to do. THAT said, I'm not out buying $50.00 stuff THAT's the latest and greatest, I'm buying 20+ year old McKean, Roundhouse, Athearn, etc. stuff....In 2 weeks, I'm gonna grab a can of paint for the RR room and get back in there. A pay period or two after THAT... a little more lumber and another "L" bracket (or two, maybe three) will go up. You and I WILL have our empires...like Johnny Cash said..."one piece at a time..."
Welp, time to add another piece or two to THAT roundhouse. I've discovered a "wonderful" discovery. The angled roof pieces have been progressively getting farther and farther out-of-whack, which will result in a lovely gap at some point. It has also (since I welded the hell out of them when securing them to the walls) necessitated scabbing-on some pieces to the front to give the proper overhang. I've also got foundation pieces not fitting very well, calling for lots of filing and Squadron Green (white, actually) Putty application. I've never had a structure, or model in general (aircraft, tanks, RR...) with as pizzzz-poor fit as this thing. I'd hate to see someone tackle it as a first project! Probably be a lot of red, green, and weird gray plastic in the recycle bin!!!!
THAT reminds me...a quick question for you guys. WHAT color would you use on the massive roof? I figure THAT will "make or break" the whole thing. I was thinking grimy black...but the roof area is so huge, THAT might just be too much. Atlas was kind enough to mold a tar paper kinda pattern, so the thought has hit to do a mix of black tones...but I think even THAT could be "overdone" quite easily.
What say you guys?

Chris I tried the Atlas roundhouse as well and didn't have good results,so I bit the bullet and bought the Corner Stone modern roundhouse. Much better kit and I was able to leave all of the roof panels loose so that you can pick them up and see the interior. THAT is so THAT if I ever detail it,you will be able to look inside not to mention it will be easier to put things in place when it happens.

Fortunately, when done...and when the RR is built, this will be a background structure. Heck, I might even end up having to hack-off part of the back end. I kinda knew, just from putting the base pieces together, there would be trouble down the line. The gap in the roof will be taken care of by scabbing-in a chunk of styrene, with brackets holding..."steam lines" or some kind of piping. The question then becomes what to use for the pipes, as plastic sprues almost always look like...plastic sprues.

THAT's why we got a 2-story house... her studio is downstairs, my office and RR room are upstairs in "the East wing," otherwise known as "MAN LAND." Time (less is better), Distance (more is better), and Shielding (things in-between...like...doors!, more = better!): three things THAT a happy marriage make!!!
When we were looking at this house, the realtor noted the two floors (plus full but useless basement), and all the doors... "there's lots of doors for slamming" she said with a giggle. I've discovered doing THAT only sends cracks shooting along the plaster and lath walls. Oh well, the RR room walls are getting repainted anyway...eventually.

nope, it's just used cars. we bought our Honda Odyssey there and sold our Chevy Astro there. As to the 2010 Camaro, it was $35,500 and was one of 1000 built with it's particular package. special color, racing stripes, etc. 400 horses stock.

Thanks, and I'll be sitting over in the back with Barry - speaking of being 'out of the draft'... Oh, ! Ulrich, sorry for chiming in late on you, but I would agree with the (several) others, that we are pulling for you on the house and other financial stuff. And that layout looks good - plus you could add onto either end later as circumstances improve. Or that module might not be too hard to pack along if the opportunity to 'hop the pond' comes along (could maybe fit it in a big trunk or something?). And that loco looks good (and well-detailed!) - tell Petra we think she has good taste in locos (even if Tom would try to get you talked into a big long articulated). Good to hear you got a visit in with your friend, and it sounds like he's been a good learner about modelling (railroads or ships). That sound module on his ship sounds great, too.

Some nice shots of that 1:1 hopper, Robby, but when did you get out long enough for railfanning? And when will you be posting your covered hopper model you were weathering? ()
Todd, I'm not retired, and some of my days/weeks run together like that (or I won't recall specifics unless I knew at the time that it might be important). And (regardless of what #$%*&^'s attorney might think) there's nothing wrong with leisurely - I think that's what most of us are hoping for when we retire (even those who haven't got to the 'leisurely' part yet...)!
Bill T., I saw that you've been in (DerJohn, Lupo and Luc would be proud of your gif's!).
DerJohn, that thing from your Canadian revenoowers looks like they're just as bad as on our side of the border! The MT's sanding facility is shaping up nicely there - another excellent job! Careful there, you'll jog my memory on the lyrics for "Saturday Night in Toledo, Ohio" (" ...is like being nowhere at all...") John Denver opened his concert in Cape Girardeau (many, MANY moons ago) with that when I was a student - undergraduate - and saw him here. Boy, talk about a blast from the past!
Garry - thank you for posting that link for the RDC film (being kinda fond of those as I am!). Saved that for future reference and viewing. Does your church run that financial class regularly, like once or twice a year? IMHO, a lot of churches probably have more people who would benefit from those than some realize.
Ray, you've been pretty busy lately, with all your meetings, dinner and birthday party plannings. You'll need a day or two to catch your breath, once you get through the rest of the weekend!
Sawyer, don't worry about that delay in getting your permit - I think I mentioned before all the delays I had before I finally got my driver's license...You would have a ways to go to match that, I'd guess! And remember, no texting while driving!
Tim, we both had good weather today - we got almost to 60 F this afternoon, and I bet that tomorrow we will reach it (though they're talking about clouds creeping in). Reminded me today with the weather that I need to get another spring weather jacket again (current one is a bit too old and starting to show the wear and tear). Oh, and Tim? Wise choice there, 'treating the girls' today; as you said, earns layout points!
Joe, I know the feeling on the pileup of pages, luckily for me, some of it was on related topics, but it still left a fair bunch to catch up with.
Todd, remember - it's also important what you get at the LHS for those dollars you save - Maximize your return on those bucks! {yeah]
Rob, that's a true enough caution for any single guys! (Only thing worse is, a messy guy marrying any excessively neat woman...)
Now, Chris, I hope you're not 'getting' your layout stuff like the guy in Johnny Cash's song did it ... Glad your head/ENT/upper bodyache has left and allowed you to resume the rest of your life. As for the roof on your roundyhouse, how about using grimy black, with a little white mixed in to make it a dull, dark greyish color (with some variation across the roof, too, perhaps)? Otherwise, I'd agree that you're doing fine on making it look like the photo of the 1:1 roundy.
Hey, Chris and Barry (and Garry) - I think it was Richard Robert Frost who said something about "Good fences make good neighbors", but I'm sure he would've (out of earshot of any wife he might have had) made that 'walls, doors and floors' and 'spouses' had he been asked about it...
I've found out one thing with the new toy (iPod touch) - another toy means another thing competing for my time (and even Internet time..). Someday I'm gonna break down and get broadband hooked up at home again. Someday... Surprising how little it seems like I got done today (other than laundry and internet).
Might have to take some non-internet time tomorrow afternoon to re-organize and maybe even get something (anything) done for the layout. Say tackle some freight car kits, since I have some Accurail kits and some Kadee couplers I can use for them. Yeah, wanna get to those, first thing after church and lunch, tomorrow...
Mañana, amigos!

GARRY: Yup yup... saw pics of them E's with "the drag" on a guy's blog via the Ames Railfans Yahoo Group. Speculation/rumor has it they're using the E's on a special move this weekend: Council Bluffs to Boone, to Kansas (via the Spine Line connection at Nevada). The speculation/rumor also theorized THAT since the E's hadn't been out and about for ahwile, they ran 'em east (to Beverly Yard) for some w**k (Beverly put 'em on "the drag," the Beverly to Cedar Rapids North Yard transfer run. THAT night, they ran light engines back west...somebody reported seeing them running west through Belle Plaine. Would've been a helluva shot to get 'em alongside the old depot in Belle Plaine. THAT top pic has 'em on the CNW bridge about to run through the Quaker Oats complex. The bridge is lucky to still be standing. The Flood of '08 wiped-out the ex-Milwaukee bridge a little farther downstream. The mainline (former CNW passenger main) curves around to the south. The train then blocks most of the downtown crossings before backing into the North Yard. Again, woulda been real neat to have seen THAT! The bottom shot looks to be at Beverly Yard.
Hmmmmmmmm. The whole point of being part of the Ames Railfans Yahoo Group, is to find out about special movements like THAT...in time to go out and SEE THEM!!!! Perfect weather (for Iowa in early March), had the time...
I'm just gonna hang here at the RC and stew a-bit....
***EDIT*** Here's the link to the blog where I first found out about the E's... Buddy Burton is the guy's name, and he's got some really good photos on here.
Evenin' folks!
Flo just a decafe to warm me up and relax myself before heading out to sleep. I'll go sit in the back booth by the stove and warm up for a bit.
Got a bit more done on the building tonight. Started making the doors for the main part of the Engine house. Little by little....

Tomorrow is my little sweet granddaughter's first birthday party. Photos will certainly be taken (and some posted here I bet).
Chris, I think you and I actually might basically agree on the Win/lose thing. Only thing I would add is the concept of "age appropriate" understandings. Big thing in Scouting today for activities. What might be appropriate for 7 year olds playing T-ball, certainly isn't what should happen with High School sports.
Hope all of you have a great night! Prayers for all in need!
