howmus I think you and I actually might basically agree on the Win/lose thing. Only thing I would add is the concept of "age appropriate" understandings. Big thing in Scouting today for activities. What might be appropriate for 7 year olds playing T-ball, certainly isn't what should happen with High School sports.

Worked on the removal of the mess I made of trying to ballast the wife's track a while back. Cleaning it up (and re-doing sections) is going to be a long term project.
Experimented on some scenicing, figuring out a few ways not to do things.
Drilled the first wiring hole through a mounting to light the barn. At least THAT went well. Question, would you folks use the lights that come in a ready-built structure or replace them with LEDs? I am even thinking of running 2 sets of wires for both types, with the LED as the back-up for when the grain-of-whatevers burn out. Thoughts?

Stayed up for the better part of the night - I just could not go back to sleep after waking up a little after midnight. Now I feel like !
It´ll be a sunny, but cold day again. The TV weather fairy ( a beautiful, tall blonde who always catches my attention) stated yesterday, that the total snowfall has been a cumulative 58 inches in our region - that´s a little more than ten times the amount we usually get!

Spend the night thinking about that track plan. Do you know this feeling? There is something you like, but... Well, this happened to me, when looking at the plan. Bingo! I knew it, something must have been wrong! I wanted to simulate train movements from fiddle yard to station to fiddle yard - shunting back and forth, if you pardon the British expression. Well, this would have worked nicely, if the traversers are long enough to hold a loco plus at least two coaches and there would still be some room next to the traverser to "park" a loco. Both traverser are way too short for that type of operation! So, it´ll mean back to the drawing board! But Í have to watch out, not to get caught in that analysis - paralysis thing again.
Jeff - I hope your ankle gets better soon. You have been through so many health challenges in your life that you need a break!
Rob - I´d say just replace them with a warm-white LED.

Good morning. It's 41 and cloudy. The high will be in the mid 60's and it will remain partly cloudy. Well, you can't have everything.If the oxycodone I got yesterday continues to work as well as as it did last nigh I should be able to fix my car today then maybe I'll be able to get some model railroad work done. I have a list about half a mile long that's clamoring for attention. Probably the easiest thing to do will be to note the more important things then pitch the list. Or have I done that already? Could this long list be the shorter one? I certainly hope not! Humpty Dumpty didn't fall off the wall. He was pulled off by the weight of the list he was trying to read. It looks like I have a taker for the Athearn GN caboose and Athearn GN boxcar kits I have. I still have a 40' "Snicker's" billboard reefer kit and a 'shorty' SP 40' flatcar kit. Both are Athearn blue box. I may be able to use the flatcar in a MoW train but the billboard reefer is way too old. Billboard type cars were banned on US railroads in 1937. That didn't keep toy train makers like Tyco, AHM, Life-Like and Bachmann from introducing many foobies over the years using more modern cars.

No not to work on the layout, but to collect some stuff to take to the dumpster. Then to add more stuff from mom's house. It's rainy so far. Kinda drizzly is more like it. Jim- As far as the Leisurely goes, the detective said he doesn't know how some people know what time or day or something happens either. Without some event to match it up with, or a reason to remember, if nothing strikes anyone as odd, he feels there would be no reason to know exactly what time something like dinner was 2 or 3 weeks prior. Unless of course you eat every night at the same time or you remember because a special TV or event was going on. He claims he is suspicious of those people who can swear to times and dates and places that support their claims until he can find a reason why they remember things so well. Of course, some people can.

Rob- When I get to the point of lighting the interiors, I will go with LED's for many reasons. Only One of which is the size of the "bulb". Another is the heat factor. My plan, when I get to that stage, is to put the lighting in the sructure in a prototypical place such as the ceiling. This in some cases will require puting the bulb through the floor/ceiling of the structure. The LED would be small enough to allow and yet hide and cool enough to not melt the surroundings.
Since there has been talk earlier about the spouses, I shall end my post with a praising of my wife. (ahem)There is no fighting, and we never have. We have had disagreements sure. And yes, there have been a few times when the voices were raised at each other. But I can count on one hand those times and have a finger or two left over. We worked at the same place and for many years in the same shop. I saw her every day and, of course, every night. I have yet to grow tired of her presence. We enjoy the same things and we each enjoy things the other does not. Neither complains when one does something the other doesn't like. We always seem to include the other on most things we do and it isn‘t a conscious effort, it just happens. Yes, I do get in trouble, so to speak, and I do get the funny looks and the roll of the eyes and the "what were you thinkings" and the "are you going to finish (or do) this or that or not " ‘s, but they aren't the overly animated arms flying, yelling, stomping off in a huff dislpays. Mainly she just tolerates me without saying much and just shakes her head while walking away or turning her head to continue watching her television show. I do get the gentle, (most times) nudging in the direction she wants e to go, like just now. I said "well, I guess I won't be burning at mom's today. It's raining." from the other room she said " why, it's not suppose to rain all day, just this morning." I say " but the wood is now wet and water and fire don't exist well except with the addition of large amounts of fuel and that is usually accompanied by large amounts of smoke." she says " most of the stuff is inside the buildings" I said "true. I guess you're right. Maybe I will after all." she said " Good." (at least it sounded like good. It was muffled and I really couldn't make out the rest of what she said, I think she was talking to the dog.) That my friends was a typical "argument" at our home. Life is grand with her. However, If there was no her, I would be single. Knowing what I know, I would not have married. Well, I guess I wouldn‘t have known, but then maybe I would because I never thought of marriage before her. Oh who knows and who cares. Things ain't changing'. At least at my house, I get the last word......"Yes dear".

Looks like the niehbor's kid across the street is finishing moving out today. The couple that live over there always seem to have one of the kids moving on or moving out....... During my 21 years of marraige, I had to be very careful using the words, "Yes Dear". THAT was considered to be taunting and disrespectful......... The best route was to nod my head and get doing whatever it was I forgot on the "Honey Do" list.

Building a protolanced industrial park layout
Changed out the EGR valve on the car today. It got a lot of the low end power back but it still stutters on acceleration.
This morning I decided that such a nice day here in Pittsburgh should not be wasted, so after an early lunch, we took a short ride to watch trains. And we were rewarded by catching 6 Norfolk Southerns in about an hour.One mixed freight, one coal train, one trash train, and three intermodal. The coal train was a surprise as the power had 2 BNSF SD70MAC's in the "Executive" paint scheme leading followed by a NS Dash-9. It's always a pleasant surprise seeing foreign power. We could also hear, but not see, at least four CSX across the Ohio River.
Robby, from what I saw today, you can swap out rust for mud if you ever do a trash train. Both containers and flats. It also looked like all the power today will need some time at the wash rack later this Spring.

ULRICH: I was wondering about the..."fiddle yards" (??) on either end of the first design, if they'd give you enough room to do anything. Welp, you answered THAT question! Looks like design No. 2 will give you more "play value," something I think is vital to any layout...be it a simple shelf or a room-filler.

Speaking of Loving Wife, she figured out our taxes yesterday...for once, we're actually eligible for a refund from the Fed...of course, the outstanding taxes from '08 and the credit card settlement will take care of THAT But, it also knocks-down what we'll have to scrape-up for THAT. Somehow, we owe the good state of Iowa some bucks...not a lot, but enough to give me a case of the grumps.
Dilema time: I'm about out of stuff "needed" for the roundhouse (styrene strip for planking around the smaller door, and Campbell's couregated aluminum for covering the last stall's doors). I could try and set it aside and w**k on some other stuff...OR, since it's finally warm enough, I couuuuuuuuullllllllllllllllllld go do some paint w**k in the RR room. Of course, I could also w**k on w**k stuff too...
Think I'll grab a plate of those dollar cheeseburgers, sit at the RC, and cogitate upon this matter.

Decided to let the fire go out and enjoy the rest of the day at home. At least what's left of it.
Went to Moms and did dome burning of just an incredible amount of trim that has been left over or removed and saved, and for some reason, kept for longer than I've been alive. My fantastic wife met me out there, I'm sure, because as I was preparing to leave this morning I was on a rant about, well everything. So she got her coat on and said she'd meet me out there and help. She followed me..... Excuse me a minute......... Sorry, had to carry the laundry hamper downstairs for her. Anyway, she met me out there and stood around just WATCHING me. I know she went just to make sure I did something as apposed to just ranting around doing nothing. Smart girl. She knows me well and is always one half step ahead. I think I'll keep her. She is now doing laundry and preparing supper. Some kind of meat and a potato of some sport and CORN PUDDING!!!!! One of my favorites.
Junk guy showed today also and hauled all the metal away. Saved me from having to do that and spend a couple days and several trips to the scrap yard to get, after fuel costs, about 5 bucks probably. Don't care if he made a fortune, I didn't have to do THAT.
I think I'll go to the layout world and do a bit of straightening up down there so I can move around. If all goes well, I PLAN on taking a progress picture.

Chris ... No, it's not Dave Ramsy. People can see him on TV or listen to him on the radio. This class is published by Purpose Driven Publishing Company which is affiliated with Saddleback Church in California. It is on DVD and it has a workbook with CD Rom with resources. Rick Warren does the introduction on the DVD and it is excellant. Next, there is a series of weekly classes with very good experts on the DVD. A lot of the work is already done for me. I lead the discussions, and the class is both constructive and enjoyable. You can google to find out about the class: "Managing Our Finances God's Way". .

Finally got all the crazy add-ons my crazy English teacher instructor wanted to go with the essay done. The one thing I never understood is why I have to take English and Humanities for a degree in Mechanical Engineering... IMO, I did enough of those kinds of things in grade school.
Jeff, maybe a fuel filter? JR mentioned that one when I was having similar issues with my car. Maybe the plugs and wires, or distributor if your car has one. I actually cut the EGR out of my car and it has helped mileage and power, on top of not having to deal with it again.
Sawyer, I never got my permit until I was 18. It's good to see that you've decided not to multi-task while drving. If it was against federal law to text/talk on the cell while drving and was enforced, gas prices might go down, lol. Sucks about the friend though.

jeffrey-wimberlyChanged the fuel filter, fuel pressure is 47 psi at the injectors, no distributor, plugs and wires have all been changed, EGR is electronic so no vacuum. Signal to EGR is optimal.
My other guess would be the TPS (throttle position sensor). I'm not sure what kind of car you have, so I couldn't help with much else.

Jeff - You weren't the only one who had to work on their vehicle this weekend. My truck has been sidelined for over a month with a large fuel leak. Had it warming up one cold morning and came out to find about 25 gallons of diesel fuel on the ground. Seems something ate a hole right through the aluminum filter housing. After I fixed the filter housing it wouldn't start, so with today being a nice 55 degrees for a change I decided to look into it a little further. Found a short in one of the wiring harnesses. Once I fixed that, it started right up.
Well I gave the 'new' laundry room another coat of compound after lunch. Getting close to finished. Told the Boss she better pick a paint color because she's gonna end up holding up the schedule if she doesn't. I can't wait till its done. I want to start in on clearing out the space for the layout. I've been holding off on doing anything further on the layout until it's in it's new home and there's been a bunch of times that I could have been working on it. As the weather gets better I know I'll have less time. I'm hoping to get it moved before the yard work picks up.
Well gotta go. She's calling for supper. Maybe I'll stop back later.
