Now, I'm very sad. The cat just died. I'm watching the house while Shelley is out of town to help with our baby grandson. Our 17 year old cat, "Little Kitten" has been ailing in recent months. She looked really sick a couple of hours ago, and so I rushed her to the vet. She died on the way there. ... This was our last surviving pet.  ...I feel badly.

I'm sorry for your loss, but am sure that "Little Kitten" is in a better, painless place now.  Please accept my condolences in your time of sorrow.  Think not on the passing of your friend, family member, and furry companion, but on all the memories of the good times you had with her!

We also feel that loss. I agree about Sam's comments here

When we lost Miximax we did the grieving as well as started looking for another fellow. We got 'Spring' about 3 weeks after 'Miximax' passed on. It definitely helped the grieving for us to be looking--we felt Miximax approved as well--Angel

Hey guys, I have a question... Doot do be do bah!  The directions for the Diner model suggest using "metalizer" for the stainless steel effect.  Has anyone ever used this?  And does it really buff out to be a metallic shine very similar to Stainless Steel???Mah-nah-Mah-nah  I believe they said it was a Testors product, don't have the directions in front of me at the moment (and just a little bit of "the Itis" has set in...). Doot do be doot!  I think I'm going to get a second diner...  Mah-nah-mah-nah and paint this one the way I want EDIT: The way the wifey wants!, and wait for you guys to get the votes in for the second one! Doot do be do bah! Bah do ba bah! bah do ba da da doot doot doot doot doot!!!  (This also gives me the needed excuse to have a second one! Yeah!!)

It sure is a catchy tune isn't it! WhistlingSmile,Wink, & Grin  I think I will unleash the beast on Transit tomorrow!  See how many Engineers and Conductors I can get humming it by the end of the day!MischiefWinkBig SmileSmile,Wink, & Grin

BBQ & veggies, please.

***Garry, you have our sympathies for the loss of Little Kitten. 17 years is a good long life and exhibits the good care you gave over those years. Very Sorry!

Wife's little HO scale soda machines & ice cream cart arrived today. The pop machines look nice. The cart will require some painting. Nothing else to report on.

to the diner.

I think Ulrich put it nicely:

The Diner is owned by a chap named Vinnie - the guy, who is sleeping in the corner booth. Psst - don´t wake him up - he is a mean fella and a no nonsense man. Chloe and Zoe - they are twins - run this place, with the occasional help of cousin Flo and Janie. They serve you any food you like, if you treat them kindly and stay polite.

This is the place to go for your morning coffee, lunch or supper. The place to have a chat with your buddies (that´s us) after w*rk  (we don´t like this word in here), just like in a real diner or a mrr club. If you have read some of the posts in here, you have noticed, that not all our posts are model railroading related... . As long as we stay somehow in the framework of the forum´s policies, this is being tolerated by our host, Kalmbach.

Once we have run through about 50 pages (takes us about two weeks) , the switcher moves the diner to a new track in the yard.

So make yourself comfortable and enjoy your drink!

It's a place to make yourself at home, with no worries of a "mean spirited" remark or put-down for asking aquestion on modeling (as happens across the street in those "other" threads).  Also a place to make good friends, and share the everyday goings-on!

Hey, for everyone, check out these links!  I think you'll like them! Lol

Evening all.  Glad I found the place, had the scanner running and was able to catch the broadcast about track 26 being closed to host the place, so I hurried right on over.  Not a whole lot happening here, might loose the net soon, seems that there are some thunderstorms moving in.  Been doing some side w**k in one of the local shops here in town which has been nice, but a pain too.  I tore down a Yukon last week and sent the heads off to be re-worked, and still haven't gotten them back....kinda wanted to be able to put that one back together today and tomorrow, but that didn't happen.  Oh well, those heads are going to have to be ready tomorrow morning or the shop owner's going to have to go in and put the thing back together...

Not much happening on the MRR front, waiting on payments for the jobs I've completed to be able to put towards the MRR fund....I really really love waiting....

I'll go with a Barry-sized double bacon cheese burger and an order of cheese fries with a 55-gallon drum of RBF to wash it down.  I'll take it at the RC and see what all happens.

Garry: Sorry to hear of the loss of your cat. I had cats for many years and it always hit me hard when I lost one.

I never got the chance today to change the batteries out in the other Tiki lights. It just wouldn't stop raining! The lights with the NiCd batteries were able to get a little bit of a charge with the very limited sunlight that was available but after sunset they ran down within a couple of hours. The two with NiMH batteries are still going strong at this hour of 8:47 pm. It'll be interesting to see if they're still lit before sunrise tomorrow. No MR work today. My ankle was bugging me way too much for that. I have an appointment with the foot doc tomorrow morning. Standard routine. They'll clean 'em up real good and put on new dressings then he'll poke and prod my feet to see how much I can feel as far as touch goes. Reflex action works fine. In fact he almost got kicked one time when he tripped the nerve reflex. I just have limited motor function and very little sensation. Some day they'll come up with a cure for that but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks all for your remarks. It's like I say in church, men have feelings just as much as women do. Sam phrased his message quite well, and I can tell all of you are very sincere. I didn't realized how attached I was to "Little Kitten", but we've had her for her entire 17 years. Her mother was our pet when we were living near Ann Arbor, MI, and she was one of four kittens in a litter born outside under a bush. All the cats were fixed as soon as possible after that.  Anyhow, there is much to recall over those years. Thanks again.

I have no layout progress to report this evening.

Good Evening All,

It's been a fun few days. We finally got the cars done late yesterday and loaded and shipped this morning. The rest of the day today was spent cleaning the shop from the incredible mess we left.Haven't had the heart to see what we're getting for weather in Fla this weekend.

I like the new digs, the yards don't get the long drags like the main but with all the activity who could complain? Always something doing 24/7. On the list, did we leave out JP and Inch?

Sam - the metalizing was covered by AntoioFP45 who used it to good effect on his stainless coaches. If you search you should find it on the block along with his comments and suggestions as he became more familiar with the product which IIRC is made by Testors for the model aircraft bunch. I tried something similar years ago to simulate chrome trim on cars but I lacked a lot of patience back then and it wasn't a brilliant result. The muppet Utube was sneaky - I could lose hours there.

Still noodling on the new layout room. Looks to be longer but narrower (7' x 21') so what I was planning needs to be scrapped though I still like the two level idea with rural above and urban below. A folded dogbone might be a solution if I can offset the two ends to keep an isle.

Time to get some shut eye. Catch y'all tomorrow.   J.R.

 Evenin' folks!

Zoe just a cup of decafe to help me unwind.  I'll go sit in the back by the stove and stay warm.

Sign - Welcome  to the diner Pat.  Pull up a chair and tell us about yourself and what you've been doing lately.  You'll find a great bunch of people in here.  We come from all over, have a lot of different interests, some are tall, some are short, some country folk and some city slickers.  We also appear to be from all over the world.  So set your self down kick back and relax with us a bit!

Garry so sorry to hear about the kitty cat.  Always so hard to lose such a good friend!  They sure do have a way of wheedleing themselves into our hearts especially after 17 years! Sad  had to have this old girl put to sleep at age 21 (Cancer).  Sheila was my Mom's cat and I inherited her when my Mom died.  I came home and snuffled to myself and wiped my eyes for a week or more... Still miss the old girl after 2 years, and so do the 2 boys (cats I inherited from my Dad)  Shiela was down to less than 4 lbs. when she was put to sleep.

Well I got home a couple hours ago from the MLK meeting.  One lady on the committee (who is my treasurer on the board of Deacons at church) found an obvious glaring error in my report, so I was suitably embarrased......  We then spent a half hour changing some wording around for the Scholarship applications I have to get out to the high school sometime this week.  So I have been correcting documents, rechecking them, and emailing them out to the committee for acceptance....  No MRing for me today either.

Good thing is Wednesday is the Deacons meeting at the Presbyterian Church here so I have 2 days to get agendas and other paperwork printed and ready for THAT meeting.  Might even find my wy down to the layout tommorrow for a few hours!  Big Smile

Hope you all have had a good day!  Blessings to all!

Later!

Good late evening.

Garry- I sorry to hear about little kitten. Loss of our families four legged members is as heart wrenching as anything. Yes, Sam took my thoughts and put them into words.

Rob- I have no experience with DCC, but, from what I've read in the forums around from those who actually use them, I have heard this. Bachmann is a good system but is very very basic and If I'm not mistaken, and probably am, is very limited in it's capabilities and expandability. Even those who want very little out of a DCC system "outgrow" the Bachmann. But it apparently is a reliably system. The two that I hear very little if nothing bad about is NCE and Digitrax. If/when I decide to hang up my DC system I would choose Digitrax Zephyr based on what I hear and what I want. Since I'm running as a lone wolf so to speak, and my railroad is not really involved, a DC system is plenty good for me. I am making sure that if I do change the switch over will be as simple as possible.

J.R.- I think Inch is Mike. At least that's what I thought.

Keep the names coming, I'm adding them to my list also. Amazing how after chatting with all that so many are hard to think of. Wonder what we can use the list for?

Pat- Sign - Welcome Just like the title says, we are like a small town diner where the folks come in to visit. We all have a common interest in MRR of course, but like the counter or the "liars table" as we used to call it in the old diner in my hometown or the "Old Farts Table" at the McDonalds across the highway, we just stop in and chat. A lot about our railroads or railroad dreams, but a lot about everything else too. The main purpose of the diner when it started, if I recall correctly, was to give folks who have gotten to know each other through the forums a place to chat and keep in touch without clogging up the other thread subjects with "how's the wife" kinda things. There is a mighty friendly bunch that comes in here and enjoys nothing more than exchanging ideas and showing what we've done and passing on experience and help. Without the snide remarks or the better than thou attitudes. We named the counter the Rivet Counter if you want to get all prototypical for a bit. We don't find the term Rivet Counter offensive, nor do we intend for it to be in here. Trust me, I've shown some pretty lousy pictures and there are some pretty fantastic modelers in here and not one unkind word was said. Well one, but that was because Ray fell off his chair when he saw it. It wasn't his fault. OK so maybe Robby laughed a lot, and Jeff got soap in his eyes from washing them out, and Tom..... Well you get the idea.

Prayers for those in need.

Morning ya'll

Rain is expected all day today, so I don't think I'll get any airbrush weathering in.

Garry, sorry to here about you're cat, but she's in a better place now Angel

Todd, you know what they say about gloatingLaugh

Robby, Shipping is crazy nowadays. In some cases it's cheaper to ship it to a work address than a home address. It would also keep them away from SWMBO...

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good morning.   Since I see Todd is buying.......One of everything!!

Well not much planned today.  I might see what I can do on the layout.  I was thinking about making a list of projects to do, but I'm kinda scared to see how long the list would be.

Garry.....I was going to say something yesterday, I'm sorry as well.  Some people see animals as animals, and then some of us see them as family members.  We have five pets, and yes they get on my nerves, but its funny how they can love you unconditionally.  Angel

Vincent....I agree.  Plus I heard on the news that the USPS might go to five days a week.  That might not happen till 2011.  Maybe the prices will go down.  Now if only eBay (fee-bay) will lower some!!!

I guess I better eat up!!  Seems like I have a lot to eat!!

Here is the last photo of "Little Kitten" A few days ago, she came to me for attention while I was using the computer. I had the camera, and so I took the picture. I few minutes later she was on the keyboard to make sure I did not ignore her. She really was not feeling well in the picture as I can tell from her eyes and the lack of grooming.

Over the years, we tried several other names for her, but for whatever reason the name "Little Kitten" was what we used. She's a "mixed breed" as you can tell.

Thanks very much for your thoughts and kind remarks. I may send them to Shelley later. She's still in Michigan with the baby grandson.

MEanwhile I will be going to a meeting this morning.

 Good Afternoon,

well, it is a little late for lunch, but since Todd is paying - Chloe, I´ ll have the "Hungry Man´s Steak Platter" with all the works and a RBF, please n´ thanks!

I am surprised, how long the list of names finally got, although I think it is not yet complete... Big Smile  Some of the names are not familiar to me, which means they have not shown up for about a year now. I hope, we don´t have to include any of the names in our Angel - list!

Garry - I am sorry to hear about "Little Kitten". Losing a companion, with whom you have walked so many miles in life, always hurts so much. It took me months to get over the loss of our little Beagle girl "Carrot", who died at the age of 14. She is still in my thoughts.

In Germany, the year 2010 is a special year for all train buffs. We will be celebrating the 175th anniversary of the opening of the first train service, a line between the two cities of Nuremberg and Fuerth. Actually, this line never become a part of a greater network and is since years amalgamated into the Nuremberg tram line net. We will have a number of rail fan special events, with the real highlight being a week in early fall, when in a region in southern Germany all regular passenger trains will be headed by steam locos ( with the exception of the high speed trains, though). This going to be like a hadj to the Mekka of Steam! I hope I have a chance to see it...

A good day to all of you!

Good morning all. Stack of pancakes please. Blueberry syrup and a cup of coffee thank you.

Today started out irritating.

WARNING RANT FOLLOWS!!!!! I decided to upgrade my annoying cell phone through AT&T on the web. Found me a free (sort of. I have to enter another 2 years) flip phone and my same contract is still available. I haven't been on a contract since the last one ran out a couple of years ago. The phone is fine, thank you for asking, but the battery is not holding a charge quite as long as it used to it seems so I figure in the next sveral months or so I'll have a no good battery. Instead of paying a gazzillion dollars for a battery I figure, free phone, free shipping, and the same contract/price equals free. Why not. Well,(said in disgust) They want to charge $18 to STAY WITH THEM! Upgrade fee they call it. Apparently they don't realize I was born in 1962 and didn't get a phone until 1998. 36 years without a phone I made it. I think I can make it another 36 years AND based on my usage they should think the same. I've been with the same phone company, well Cingular until AT&T bought them, for my entire annoying phone attached to my hip life. I'm free to choose another company, have got only 3 phones from them, they make more money off the monthly bill than I even close to use, (I used 35 minutes last month and have almost 3800 unused rollover minutes), and they say "thanks for being a loyal customer Hoss, by the way, that'll be $18 to stay with us.". I understand if I was just wanting another phone, but come on! I hate the phone.Grumpy

Rant over

Well, I must unload the grocery truck at 10:30, then back home. I have phase 3 bench work on the floor in the basement ready for the legs then attach to phase 2. Once that is attached then I must finish phase 2 by putting the end of the peninsula on, the stepped portion that goes in another tunnel and then the raised portion where the tourist trap town goes. Then on to Phase 4 to complete Part 1. Clear on that? Thought so. I might show the progress once the bench work is in place that I'm working on now hopefully today, unless of course I get needed.Whistling

Say, where's my food? What? It'll be a few minutes because you ran out of dishes? How much did they eat? (Sees bill so far).ShockShockShock (thump. Falls to floor)

Good morning all,

I’ve been pretty busy over the last couple of days and haven’t been in the diner.  I did enjoy all the pictures posted.

This past weekend between shoveling snow and fixing a bunch of plumbing issues around the house I managed to lay the tracks around the turntable and prepare everything for wiring.  This weekend I need to find an appropriate rotary switch and wire everything into the DCC system.  Then move forward with scenery including a concrete pad in front of the roundhouse and machine shop.

Todd......I feel your pain.  We have been with Verizon for several years.  I've had battery problems as well.  I just keep it charged and I didn't want to spend money on a battery.  We have about 700 minutes, but we also have that "in calling".  So........We use about 50 minutes each month.  Well we wanted to change that, and save some money.  Went to a Verizon store at the mall and asked to change our plan.  The salesman said "you can't do that here".  In other words he wasn't going to make any commission, so he didn't wanna help.   So we have to call the 800 number.  Dang cell companys Angry.

Here's a few shots of MY boxcar.

Good late morning fromSober Island!

Garry: Sorry to hear about Little Kitten. It's hard to watch a pet go suddenly (or slowly, definitely worse) downhill. We've "run to the vet" a number of times, but never had that outcome. You know our thoughts are with you in this.

Pat:   and OZJim I'm sorry I was in a bit of a rush and didn't get out the proper welcome mat for you!

Folks have pretty much filled you in on the Diner. I would say to Ulrich that Vinnie only acts like he owns the place

- He's actually chief waiter and general factotum

;

but also Chloe's cousin, and "keeps his eye" on the female staff to see there's no trouble. (The ladies can look after themselves, ask Flip - but Vinnie has "connections"

and can call for backup!)

Pictures of the ladies are hard to come by, as they are swift in their duties,

but there has been the odd photo-op.

It's never been determined just which is which in these.Tongue

Ulrich: Sounds like a wonderful Railfan year for you guys! Thumbs Up

Here's today's outhouse.

Isn't it funny how attached we humans become to animals in our homes. I always had a dog, mutts, until a few years ago. I never had or wanted a cat, he said ducking all the flying doughnuts. Anyway, it was always very hard to have them put down when the time came. About 15 years ago, we had a little male put down at the Vets, then drove straight down to the Humane Society and picked out a little female pup to take home. Not 30 minutes passed between the two events. That was the easiest transition from grief to pleasure I ever experienced.

Man, I'm looking forward to a break from all the snow. It's suppose to be in the low 40's this weekend, so maybe I'll try to get in a little railfanning around here. I definately have a case of cabin fever that needs to be relieved.

Everybody have a good day and enjoy the good life.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have the #2 special with all the trimmings!  Over easy on the Eggs, Bacon, Home Fries, and a double order of Sourdough Toast with Strawberry Preserves to go along with a large mug of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug.  Thank You much, I'll go sit a the Rivet Counter for a while.

Todd and Robby I solved my problem with the cell phone.....  I got rid of it!  Figured in a decade I used it two or three times.  So I figured paying close to $20 a month for something I never used was rather stupid, but hey I got 25 FREE minutes every month!!!

Robby nice w*rk on the boxcar!  Almost makes me wish I modeled the more or less "Modern" era.  Almost but not quite!Whistling

Mornin' Bill!

Gotta go tend to the wood stove.  Later!
