Good morning.  Got some light snow showers going right now, but maybe a snow storm coming Friday.   Oh Joy Banged Head!!!

I'm glad y'all liked the boxes.  Like I said, I will work on them some more today.  Get them to look a little better.  Maybe even take a picture of my old company (building) I made.

Lee......Thanks for the offer.  I will have to email you later and get them.  Keep them on file.  Thumbs Up

Jim.....I'm going to try to work on the swamp today.  Add some more bushes, and maybe some lily pads.  I will have to see what I come up with as far as the logs.  Adding something to them would make them look better.  As far as the boxes, its just "card stock" paper.  My wife does scrap booking, and she had several colors of brown.

Ray.....I assume your workbench is like mine..........You know where everything is.

Well maybe I will have a quick war (game on the computer "Age of Empires"), and then head into the basement.   I will try to get some pictures up later.

You need to put UPS labels on one or two of the roughed up ones that look like they survived being in the middle of a fight during a hockey game. That's about what boxes look like by the time they get out here.

Good Morning. Coffee please.

I ended up hauling more stuff for Mom yesterday and did not make it to the train roomGrumpy. But today I shall.

Bama- Yea, the wife sorts too. She doesn't say much about me not sorting. I guess she's just glad I'll do laundry also and separate reds and new jeans. You know we go through a lot of laundry for just two peopleConfused.

Robby- I like the boxes. Good idea!

Chris- The walk away and talk thing is very common here also. Also the talk soft and turn the head thing, especially in the car. I don't hear all that well under certain conditions and at certain decibals. I have trouble distinguishing sounds with background.........

I don't believe it. I guess I'm not a Computer Super Genius after all. Fellas I'm almost embarrassed to say this but. The computer just did tLaughhe same thing in the middle of the post here in Word. Checked out the functions of things and yep, same thing. This time I leans back in me chair and looks at the keyboard in disgust and that is when I noticed it.Banged Head There is a pile of mail that came Monday that is laying with the corner over the minus key on the numbers keypad part.(my desk looks like my workbench) My jaw dropped, I shook my head and laughed as I casually pushed the pile off of the keypad. Yup, problem solved. How in the world did I not notice that Monday night when it started and all yesterday morningDunceBlindfold? Where's that rubber pad, I need it.

Anyway Chris, like I was saying, I have trouble making out what is being said if there is background noise, rooms with lots of talking, machines. Whatever makes noise basically. and of course it doesn't have to be loud. Most people hear fine, me, it's just an additional noise that I can't understand well, unless they really speak up. That's one reason why I don't think I'd want sound with my locos. Certain noises irritate me and I feel that may be one of them and it is an expensive thing to buy if it does. Depending on where we are, one of the most common responses she hears is "huh?" Eventually she speaks up, then suggests a hearing aid. You'd think she'd just speakup. Or at least point her face in my direction when talking.

Ray- ha ha, my bench is as tidy as yours. But what I noticed more than that was your expression. It's most like what mine is when attempting to clean up my WB. But hey, isn't it great to have a clean place to work for those 10 minutes?

Jim- I just read your assessment of the possibilities for the computer mishap. BowLooks like you hit the nail right on the head there! Except instead of Rerun it was the corners of a pile of junk mail.

Well, here it is almost 9 a.m. Man, time flies in the morning. Best get a move on.

Have a Great Day!!!

Jeff..........About the only thing I can do right now is make the box, and cut out some white paper for the label.  Our printer is out of ink, and I need some INK!!  We have rollers at work, that is suppose to cut down on damaged packages.  Well half the time the rollers damage the package more than we do.  BUT don't tell a supervisor that.  They seem like the don't believe us Whistling.

 Mornin' everyone!

Zoe just a bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar for me this morning and my usual dark roast in a FGLK mug.  I'll be sitting in the front booth watching the yard goings on.

We had a light dusting of "partly cloudy" last night here in the Finger Lakes so everything outside looks nice and clean and white...... In fact we are getting a few flackes right now.  May get a half inch of the stuff this afternoon.  Temperature here in 28°F with a high of 29°F so it should be a fairly nice day for early February around here.

I am sitting here at the computer printing materials for Deacons tonight.  Then I have to get to w*rk cleaning the layout room and the house in general.

Todd the photo was in response to photo Jacon12 posted about a year or so ago on WPF......  He showed himself at his immaculate workbench with a beautiful model he was building.  Whistling

Good morning. It's 43 and cloudy. The high today will be in the mid 50's and rain is a definite possibility later today with a 15% chance at 1 pm increasing to an 80% chance by 10 pm.

I'm expecting a visit from a Home Health nurse around noon today. After she changes the dressing on my feet I'll be heading to Wal-Mart to finish the shopping. Whatever else happens today will occur of it's own accord. Some layout work is a possibility.

Well here's a few shots of my building.

Got some graffiti cover up, a old wooden fence (which I wish looked better), mainly just old looking (the building).  Not my best (for now), but it was my first.

Then a picture of my road.  The yellow lines aren't to good.  My hands aren't to steady Dead.  I also added some trash along the road.

Then a overall shot of what the middle section is looking like.  PLUS.............I still gotta add more detail work, etc....

Good afternoon...man, those quadruplex grease bombs went down so well last night...think I'll have another plate-full for breakfast/lunch!Dinner

LEE: Yeah...your summation on the roundhouses is about what I figured. Unfortunately for me, the Atlas kit has the right profile on the side walls. The RI roundhouse had one more "step down" to the rear, and was roughly twice as long on the front...but this is a condensed version I'm doing anyways (it was also 12-stall, I'm only doing 9). Add to all THAT my current ideer to have it be a background structure...and it "should" work-out just peachy-keen. What also will help it appearance-wise, is that some of the "clunkier" details will be covered under Campbell's corregated alluminumumumumum.

The Walthers machine shop sure reminds me of a building in Creston, Iowa which at one time had a pretty large yard/shop complex. Not much left today Disapprove Here's a shot I grabbed, more of the locomotive than of the shop...Banged Head but it gives you an idea of what I'm babbalin' about. I worked in Creston for a few months in 2000, but didn't shoot much of the BNSF. When I was off-duty, I was mostly trying to get as much sleep as possible.

TODD: Huh?

Actually, I know all too well what you mean about hearing deficiencies. I think my right eardrum was ruptured during the '96 fire engine rollover. The med. records say "possible," but my hearing has never been the same in that ear since. Add-in having my ears "plug up" (like a change in altitude or a fast elevator ride) to where I gotta "pop 'em" and yes...communication becomes interesting sometimes.

ROBBY P: I like the coloring on your road, and yeah, lines are always tough. I still say those boxes look fantastic.

ULRICH: Old Buddy, Old Buddy, Old Pal...we need to find us a bottle of schnaaps... Even though you tacked up a very nice winter view from your apartment the other day...it was a "WINTER" view. THAT don't help a man's spirits, when all is gray and cold. I think a bunch of us could use a serious dose of SPRING (no, not the cat...sorry). Naturally, our furry weather-guesser in Punxatawny, PA said 6 more weeks of winter. Hmmmmm, maybe I'll send Rerun to Punxatawny on a mission to go get himself a large, furry rodent...

Have a good afternoon all...

Afternoon all. Zoe, I'll take one of those mega-burgers, thanks.

Today was SUCH a CRAZY day...
So today was supposed to be a faculty day schedule, so we get out at 1:04. But it's a Friday lab schedule as well. Ok, that's crazy enough.
BUT. We got about two inches of snow overnight. And we had a delayed opening. So school was only 3 hours...
So we had two classes and lunch. I had double writing and double algebra (those are the normal Friday doubles) and lunch. And then I went home. Yes, from lunch. IDK... My school is wierd... ConfusedQuestion

Report cards also came. My lowest quarter grade was a 90 in algebra, and my lowest semester grade was an 88, also in algebra (the exam dragged me down. And I was told that they really are designed to bring your grade down. Your exam grade is guaranteed to be lower than your average...).
I tried to get on Powerschool to pick my grades for next year, but it got messed up, but should be fixed by tomorrow.

Our entire first semester of Theology was the history of the Israelites and the Jewish faith, since it forms the basis of Catholocism (sp?)... IDK. I did fine in the class, but it was wierd, since, last time I checked it's a CATHOLIC school?

Hmm, I see there's a discussion about beat-up boxes and shipping. I just got a box of track from a user on these forums today, and it looked like it'd been to hell and back! Twice!

I'll be hanging for a bit, since practice isn't till 8:25.

The road looks good regardless. I'm no stranger to unsteady hands. Sometimes I think I could possibly rent myself out as a drink mixer. Just pour in the ingredients and stand back. Just don't add any nitro glycerin.

Hello--

Got all the runnin' 'roun' doin' stuff stuff done--so now I'll attempt to get some MR time in for myself, lol!!

Robbie: My own take on the yellow line is that it still looks goods from the photo. I've seen lines that looked like that and usually the street was exactly like what you have there--no curb/gutters. I really like those boxes tooSmile

Chris: I had a photo that we took in St. Thomas ON that had a building that looked almost like that. It was used by Michigan Central(sic?) as their repair facility and I think is still being used by the St. Thomas Rail Museum. And from the looks of that facility it might have needed you to be really far back from it to get a decent shot tooWhistling

Imma still gonna try to do some rejigging of the yard---if only I remembered what file I threw the original plan in/underConfusedDunceWhistling

Jeff/Barry........Thanks!!  I like the look, but then the wife just looked and said "shouldn't they be white?".  Confused I guess each town is different.  I've seen them this way, and the white line way.

On another note:  The state a few months ago chipped and tarred the road, and a dead animal was in the patch of the line.  Well the just stopped painting, and after they passed the animal they resumed painting Big Smile.   I guess I could have modeled that!!

Down here they would have just painted right over it or swerved the paint line around it. I've seen both.

Good evening.......bust day in train rooms, still waiting for WS risers and starters to arrive, but plenty of other things to keep me busy on the layout. I decided not to use a swing gate in one area, the gate would be in a bad spot to get damaged by visitors and small children, so I went with a lift out. I bought some standoffs at HD, 5/16" and counter-sank those into the supports for the bridge, then I used 3/16" steel rod cut to proper lengths to use as guide pins. HD also had some momentary push button switches which will be used to cut  power when the bridge is removed.

DUKE: How is the repair going on 1225 Berkshire?

RAY: You have quite a job on your hands with that bench! LOL

ULRICH: Spring is not far behind, the sun now sets after 5pm and it doesn't get dark until 5:30, hang in there buddy .

OK, the LM pie and RB was just what I needed,  see you guys for a nightcap,

Strwaberry Rhubarb cobbler please.

Today was both a grand day and a unsettling one at the same time. I've been tearing down the layout. EnjowedConfused enjoyed it because it's progress towards the new one, complete with better ways I've learned. Sad because well, I'm tearing down the layout. (sniff).

Dick

How is the repair going on 1225 Berkshire?
What I have heard is they need to retube the boiler and they are looking at maybe a year before she is running again. I will have to go on the web site to find out more.

Lee   That stool is really too high to work under the layout so I have a piece of 5/8" plywood with casters and carpet to do the wiring and whatever under the layout.

Best to all on sick call and those recoveringAngelAngelAngel

Evening all from--GASP!!  SunnyCal:

Yup, nice sunny (well, partly cloudy) day here for once.  Supposed to be rainy tomorrow through Saturday, but it's been a kinda-sorta nice break.

I could tell it at school today, the guys were all Looney Tunes with the sun out--TONS of Teenage Energy, but luckily I was able to channel it during Chorus classes.  We spent most of the day going over the Medieval Latin for "Carmina Burana", and they're really GETTING it!   In fact, they're getting it so fast that I just might add a couple of more pieces from the work for them.   The chorus parts aren't hard at all, it's just getting the 'feeling' right.   What really helpsl is that they're all really Nuts about the piece and are willing to work to get it just right.

Oh, Joe:  I teach at a Catholic High School (Jesuit, here in Sacramento) and believe me, those Theology classes really help you not only understand the history and rituals of the Catholic Church, but also the similarites and differences between Catholicism and other faiths.  If anything, they teach something that we all need a lot of right now--tolerance and acceptance.

Sorry, I got sidetracked into a lecture. Whistling

Well, the further adventures of my new brass locomotive:  Got everything stripped and ready for repainting, and now the danged DRIVE TRAIN has started to have fits!  The rear engine is catching somehow.  I took it apart, removed the motor and gears, ran the rear engine up and down a piece of track (pushing it) and it catches going forward.  I've gone over the rods and eccentric gears, done some adjusting, it's starting to move a little more freely, but I swear to God, whoever had this locomotive before me absolutely TRASHED it.  Pardon my Rant, but I don't understand how someone could take a rather expensive brass loco (new, these puppies cost somewhere in the $900 range when they came out and it wasn't THAT many years ago), and just try and JUNK it!   It was bad enough stripping the paint off of the superstructure, now I am going to have to take a toothbrush and some DioSol to the driving rods and try and get the gunk off of them in order to find out where the rods are hanging up.  It's not in the gearboxes--they run smooth, it's in all the paint splattered on the wheels and the rods.

I swear, this locomotive belonged to someone who bought it new, turned it over to his 3-year old and said, "Paint this for Daddy, okay?  Use the BIG brush and the housepaint."

I know that Bob at Caboose Hobbies did what he could before he sent it out, and I appreciate it.  But this little puppy is going to need probably a COMPLETE rebuild before I'm done.  Okay, I've done it before--when you're a 'brass man' because of necessity, you learn how to do this.  But this is going to be a Major Project.  If I work VERY carefully and don't end up throwing things at the wall, I might have her up and running by Spring.  Tongue   She's just too cute to give up on.

But oh, would I like to have a CONVERSATION with the original owner!  Banged Head

Okay, end of rant.  I'd better get back out to the kitchen table and do some more work. Sigh

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

ConfusedOh Yes,The Famous Four Square Pentecostal Church,Founded By Aimee Semple McPherson.

One of the great Radio Charlatans of the 20's and 30's like"Doctor"John R.Brinkley from Del Rio!!Smile,Wink, & Grin

Funny thing,I married a Pentecostal, although she's not a practicing Assembly of God Member, although she's kinda pestererd me from time to time about"How I Really Should Go To an AofG Church Sometime.I Might Like It!!"ConfusedWhistling

Now I can't help it,it's nothing personal but since I come from a long line of Baptists,Methodists and Presbyterians, that whole"Talking In Tounges"Bidness is just plain weird to me!!Sigh

Plus,as my little philosophy about religion goes"When We Were Kids,Some Of Us Wanted To Be'Little Sunbeams For Jesus'And Attended Chruch Regularly. On The Other Hand,There Were Some Of Us Who Wanted To Be Richard Widmark*in'Halls of Montezuma'.I Was One Of The Latter."Smile,Wink, & GrinMischief.

We were talking about how some Evangelical Christians beleive that Halloween Is Really Satanic in Nature one time.

I said"You Know,That's Offensive To My Scots-Irish Ancestors!!I Have No Way Of Knowing Whether or Not They Committed Human Sacrifice On Samhain*(*Pronounced'Sow-Een'.An Ancient Celtic Holiday. The Forerunner of Halloween),But I'm Pretty Sure That For The Most Part,They Simply Got Drunk and Danced Around a Bonfire!!".Smile,Wink, & GrinLaugh

She then said"Well,They Found Presrerved Dead Bodies In The Bogs and Moors in Scotland and Ireland,So I'm Sure That They Were Human Sacrifices!!".

So I Said"Well,The Aztecs Committed Human Sacrifices,So Does That Mean We Should Quit Eating At ElChico??I'd Sure Hate To Give Up The Enchilida Platter!!".DinnerSmile,Wink, & GrinChefLaugh

Good Evening, Chloe - I'll have a hot chocolate in a Santa Fe mug, please 'n' thank you!

I'd mentioned earlier about wanting to have that Scout campground, and wanting to make a troop van. Well, got the photo of the van our troop (many moons ago, grasshopper...) would use to haul all the tents and cooking gear and grub in to take to the camp:

I was looking earlier online, and thought (just from memory then) that the van looked like a Ford one, but I'll let those more familiar with vehicles help me out. What kind of van (make and approximate year, since I know the photo was taken in the summer of 1955) would this be? JR? Bama? Anyone else care to guide me to the right model that I can modify and paint to approximate this one? I was almost thinking that the milk truck that W-S makes might match, but to buy that just to repaint it, seems to be a bit expensive of a route to go.

I have actually, more or less, or should we say "good enough" cleaned off my workbench.  Found an amazing array of little tiny missing pieces THAT I have lost over the last few years.  Probably should clean it off more often.

Ray, how many of those Kadee coupler springs did you locate on your workbench search? (and I won't make a comment on your last statement there, since it probably could apply equally to me...)Whistling

Hey, Chris - as for Rerun taking a detour to Illinois to see Missy, how do you know that those two haven't linked up (through eDogHarmony)? Maybe Rerun's in cahoots with that mouse on the architect rule, too. Didja ever have a little trouble locating your camera, only to have it show up a little later? Y'never know what our four-legged critters might be doing when we're not watching them close...(doo-doo-doo-doo..doo-doo-doo-doo..)(cue the Twilight Zone music...)Whistling

As for the confused Protestants, Chris, I have seen a 'family tree' (sort of) of various denominations that somebody drew up - now THAT's interesting, and just think if you added all those others you mentioned to show all the belief systems! Shock

Lee, I will look forward to seeing your roundhouse pics - and I need to look at our MRR club's roundhouse, since they used the Walthers one (plus a 3-stall addition). Check your email, too.

Ulrich, keep hanging in there - for the long haul, and on THOSE days when, as the proverbial story goes: "It's hard to remember your initial objective was to drain the swamp, when you're up to your [#censored#] in alligators!"Thumbs Up

Robby, (as others have said) I like your center section (too) - and on anything like a fence, you can go back and modify/replace it later, so no biggie! Yeah!! The only way I know to get even and straight lines is, use tape or have a straightedge to paint along. Oh yeah, another way is a lot of w**k, and involves taping down either side of the stripe (one at a time...Banged Head) and painting, letting it dry, removing the two pieces of (masking) tape, place them (or new pieces of tape) down for the second stripe, paint that, and again... wait, then remove the masking tape. (A LOT of bother, though I hear rumors that it might do the trick...) So, are you gonna do the roadkill along the stripe? Wink

Todd, I hope you get the w**kbench covered back up/cluttered before what Jeff said might happen, happens. And my condolences on taking down the old layout stuff. Anything you'll be able to recycle for the new one (besides the benchw**k)?

Duke! You're awake! Oh, there he goes, back to sleep again. How does he do that so quickly?...

Calif.Tom - but at least once you get your 'new' loco all re-done, it'll be something that has a part of you in it (maybe a few parts, depending on how many pieces of your skin get caught in the gears in testing...). Good to hear things are going well with the chorus project!

Started going through the new MR issue today, and may have a few things I can put to use on the layout. We'll see. I'm still in shock that Jeff's NOT going to patch over a UP anything! [gasp]Shock What IS this world coming to, when you can't count on a few tried and true things?Smile,Wink, & Grin

Hope everyone gets a good evening's rest, and I'll probably see you in the morning, if my on-call goes smoothly.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Ah. I'm of that group as well. and also the speaking in tongues group. What's funny is we went to a Baptist church until I was maybe in 5th grade or so, lol. Oh well; we're starting to delve into subjects that would get this thread locked, so anyways...

Rugby was AWESOME tonight. did some tackling drills and then ran some defensive drills for the backs. We only had 4 members of our scrums there tonight (only half) there were 5, but our current fly-half is hurt so our eight-man got moved out there.
