Morning Gang:

Jim a very happy late birthday wish to you.

J.R. Same to you.

Jeff take care of yourself. I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with your leg. Hopefully it will clear up soon.

I don't have much time. I still have a calf to feed before I go to get Mary Ann. She's doing fine no problems. I was sick over the thanksgiving week but am better now.

Well, gotta run.

Take care everyone.

Mornin' everyone!

Ah, Zoe, I'll have.... wait.  Is that more birthday cake over there??  What?  Well I'll just have to have a slice of that with some vanilla ice cream for breakfast along with the dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug.  I'll be at the rivet counter for a bit.

J. R. Happy Birthday sir!  Happy B-Day And many more!

Ulrich I'm glad the new place is starting to take shape.  Greaseburgers???  No, no!  Those are not on your diet.....  Yeah, I know, I'm no one to talk..........

Jeffrey hope your ankle gets to healing up very soon!  You sure have had a rough fall this year. Sigh

Tom, yep, a gift to the School from George Eastman.  When my father made this find, I had been graduated from Eastman about 4 or 5 years.  It was quite a gift and the grin on my dad's face when I read the inscription was one of pure joy!  The horns are not "French" horns BTW.  They are "Alto" horns.  The old marching band substitute for the real French Horns.  They are smaller and have piston valves rather than the standard rotary valves of the French Horn.  Sounds like a lot of fun was had out caroling with the choir.  I miss doing those kinds of things........Sad

I know there was more I wanted to mention, but I have forgotten what it was (had a phone call in the middle of typing....) so I guess I will just enjoy the "cake for breakfast" and see who else pops in.  Later!

Coffee TO GO, please.

Wife found another (HO) barn she wants. It's a kit, but it looks very simple. Not sure where she plans on putting it on her layout though!?! Last night I weathered up her built-up barn and added a LED light to it, incase the one it came with burns out.

Have a good day all.

Good morning. It's 45 and cloudy. The high will be in the low 50's and the outlook says we'll be having rain today.

Well today is that day of the month we all love to hate. Bill paying day. I've already been out to pay the bills for the electricity, car insurance, loans, credit cards, cable and satellite. That should keep the wolves away from the door for another month. I'm just taking time now to let my ankle recover from all that activity. The Home Health nurse comes around at 1 pm and I may be making a trip to Alexandria later. That of course depends on how my ankle feels.

Afternoon all. Chloe, I'll take a RBF, thanks!

Had our Bishop's Mass today, so I got out at 11. The Bishop also gave us a free day off, so we'll see when we decide to use it.
Got another early day tomorrow (1:04) because of Faculty Meeting. Gonna go into town with friends, and then we got our first hockey game (of the season, and also as a Varsity team!) at 4!!!!!!!!! I'm so pumped! I'm awful, but I still love playing anyway.

Ya know what, since I've got the game tomorrow, I'll buy RBFs for everyone!

I'll catch up for a bit, then I've got some homework to do (ugh).

Strong Coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks.

Why is it I find myself thinking I should have stuck with Diesel over steam in N scale. Although I use to have both, as some here know I sold off 95% of my diesel locos and most of my vintage steam to buy newer steam models. Although most of these later steamers run decent (except that blasted Berk), it still seams modern diesels run even better. Guess I will forever second guess myself on this stuff. Dunce And then there is wishing I had started back with HO instead of N. Think of the layout we (wife & I) could have created if all in the same scale. Even now I still think of making the transiftion, but I would sure have a lot of benchwork to fix.Whistling

Going to head down to the train room to dabble on the wife's HO a bit. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Good Afternoon, Zoe - how about a grilled cheese sandwich, bowl of tomato soup, and a RBF, please? Oh - and an order of cheesey fries. Thanks! (Wait - Barry, is there a 'greasy' side effect to cheesey fries?...Whistling)

Chris, I won't tell THAT editor about Mr. Beam's improvement on your writing if you don't...Smile,Wink, & Grin Hey, I'm big on practicality - so long as it w**ks, sounds good. Yeah!! That was neat about how you got all your 'stuff' (semi-legally?). As for yellows, there are some that are worse on the eyes than others - like I recall (stand back and let Gramps reminisce, folks!) back when they came out with this yellow-greenish color for slide rules that was supposed to be the optimum color that the eye could recognize and see best. (Alright, young'uns, go Google "slide rule"... we'll wait...) And then there's that shade of chartreuse I've seen, that is the visual equivalent of nails across a chalkboard....Oops

Calif.Tom - about the Mikado, not a giant problem, since we all know how Uff-Dah and Spooky love their steam engines (and especially the Yellowstones)! Sounds like you had a great time with the impromptu concert/carolling, and the guys definitely did! Good to hear that music soothed the savage Bronchitis beast... (And kudos about quitting the smoking - my Dad had to be in ICU for a while to help him quit)

Ulrich, I can only imagine how it felt to have to leave that stuff which held so many memories for you. Good to hear that you were able to get those smaller bookcases for your bigger one (and will allow you space for books, music, and (ahem....) model railroading books and magazines. Yep, you and Petra have learned the favorite (well, more like most-used) phrase of newly-moved-in people! ("Where is...?") Soon your place will be your home and it will feel more like a home for you and Petra both.

And hey - nothing wrong with Greaseburgers; in fact there's one place called "White Castle" around this end of Missouri, which is made with grilled onions on them, too. They sell 10-packs - they have a billboard south of Cape on the interstate that has "One for the road" on it (with the "One" crossed out and replaced with "10").

Lee - speaking of not-great weather forecasts, I believe we're supposed to be getting some kind of wet-turning-into-white-flaky stuff, around midnight tomorrow, I think. Hey, I'll be on-call that night, so it might keep people at home (and leave me with fewer/no calls out?)...

JR, Happy B-Day, "young'un"! Smile,Wink, & Grin And as much stuff as you probably know about w**king on cars, you can do up your Festiva however you want to! Thumbs UpYeah!!

Barry, on the subject of names, is that pronounced "Pamerston" or "Pahmerston"? Wink Ah, language, such fun! Wink

Inch, sounds like you had a full house around your & Deb's place over Thanksgiving - that's a passel of family! Good that you're laying in a supply of reading materials for the cold times ahead. I guess you were behind the camera on the photo of all your family members, right?

Robby, good to hear you got in some MRR'ing time. Keep it up! Yeah!! Today I was inventorying some of my MRR'ing stuff and came upon this beautiful weathered C&O covered hopper. Smile

Paul, good to hear you and Mary Ann are doing okay. I see the farm is still keeping you quite occupied, eh? Wink

Rob, you (or your wife and you..) are keeping yourself busy with the layout stuff. Looking forward to your next photos of her (and your) layout progress! Maybe you're second-guessing yourself because you're getting so much practice with w**king on your wife's (HO scale) layout? Wink

I was at home earlier and writing down various MRR items I have (so I don't do like I did with the W-S embankment molds and wind up with 3 of an item...Banged Head), and I hear the (w**k) cell going off. I get it, and it's the secretary/receptionist at w**k, saying that my boss said I need to come in today and clear up which clients I will be keeping (I will be seeing 3 or 4 clients in the day tomorrow, whose appointments were made 2 weeks ago, before the schedule changes were fully known). Dang! So I went in, got the folders on the clients I have been regularly (or not, in a few cases) seeing for therapy, considered what has been going on in each's lives and how well they might/might not adjust to changing therapists, then go up front and go over the ones I will be keeping and the ones I will be transitioning/transferring, and what she needs to do for my appointments tomorrow (some shifting) and the ones I have on Friday (I think I have 3 then), and what days and hours I will be regularly holding open for the four or five clients I'm keeping. And here I thought it was my day off, eh?

Found out I have a fair number of Ford vehicles and my 1950's Chevys are not too far behind, plus a fair number of VW Beetles, Kharman Ghias and a VW bus. Need to get some variety of other vehicle makes, I think. I also checked my scenery materials, trees, rocks, gravel, etc. When I was checking my 'to get' list of freight cars against what I had, I found I'd already got some of the ones on the 'to get' list (YAY! Don't have to spend that money!).

I'll settle down with my sandwich and soup now (watching very closely for any 'BLAT' cushions...) at the window booth. Yummy! Dinner

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Saw-yer- (he he) Guaranteed in the mid west you'd be Soy-yer. Of course we say worsh (wash), Toma-tuh, Pitcher (picture) Bowl (boil) and of course welp. I could go on for ever. I constantly get the corrections. Is it surprising coming from a state that mispronounces their name and then corrects others because they mispronounce it differently. And by the way, I know you've heard it enough to make you sick but I think you are doing well. Very well. I'm not an expert by any stretch but I must say , since I have been on this forums and watching your work, you have improved tremendously and keep improving every day. I'm seeing someone progressing before my very eyes and it couldn't happen to a nicer kid, er guy. I'd be proud of the work your doing now and I'm sure looking forward to what you're doing next. You go girl! Oh wait that's not right. (I shouldn't try to keep up with these modern sayings).

Todd, eh, I answer to both and pretty much let it go after I mention the correct pronunciation. Thanks for the compliments of my work, and thank you ray as well!

Jim, that was actually my nickname at baseball camp a few years back, lol.

Chris, lol, most people do mispronounce it.

With all the knowledge and experience out there, in a hobby that has been around for a long time, with hobbyists who have been around a long time, countless magazines over the years and a plethora of how to books, and no one has ever said that spreading undilluted Elmers School glue on the side of the cork road bed is a good thing and speeds up the ballasting process, why oh why would I think it would be a good idea.

Evenin' folks!

Chloe, what ya got good tonight?  Turkey casserole..............  (mumbles under breath.. turkey casserole....)?   Oh well it's cheap, I'll have THAT and a RBF followed by the last piece of Pumpkin Pie.  I be in the back booth by the stove keeping warm.

It was in tonight's paper, The Finger Lakes Crimes, uh Times.  We got snow yesterday afternoon (a few flakes) and more last night...  Wow!  Measurable snow.  Something like a quarter of an inch that was melted by 10AM except where the sun don't shine.  But the news is that it was the first snow in 257 days.  First time in 45 years that we got the first snow on the last day of November.

Also in the paper, a 27 year old Mother of 3 was killed in a collision of her jeep and a tractor trailer close to here.  She was texting at the time..............  They kinda scraped her out of the crushed jeep (the tractor landed on top of her vehicle).  Jeep was totally crushed.   I'm sure what she had to text was very important............Whistling

Chris, lol, most people do mispronounce it.

Ah Saw... er Soy....  What ever the heck your name is?  I never heard of anyone mispronouncing "it"???  In fact "it" is a very easy word to pronouce, like that.....WhistlingConfused  Just bustin' on ya Sawyer!  My mothers given name was Nina.  It was the German pronunciation, aka:  9-ah.  People would call her by the Italian pronunciation Knee-nah.  Drove her crazy 'til the day she died.Whistling

Got a bit of shopping done today.  Went to Post Office to mail a letter to Canada (nothing to you Barry), did some banking at the Credit Union, stopped at staples for some picture frames (got a new Logitech Mouse for the G5 also - old one has started doing some weird things lately), then to Radidio Shack for some needed items for my presentation this Saturday (soldering clinic), and finally to the grocery store for a few items.  Everywhere I went I kept on running into people I haven't seen in ages.  What should have been a 45 minute outing was close to 2 and a half hours.  What?  I talk too much?  Wasn't me they were the ones who wanted to know what I was doing these days..... Sheesh!

OK, I need to make some phone calls and finish up some odds and ends.

Later!

I never did make it to Alexandria today. All the activity this morning had my ankle burning like fire, so I stayed home instead. Haven't been able to get out much on the net either. It's been problematic at best. The download speed is slow and the upload speed, well, the seasons move faster. My upload speed is in the low 60's which is half the minimum I need to make a phone call, so I can't even cuss out a tech about this problem that's been going on for at least five years now.

Hi guys!

I will have a piece of pumpkin pie with lots and lots whipped cream on top sprinkled with a dose of cinammon.

It has been a while since I have been in here. Some will not know me, some will not remember, and a few will. Hi to all those who do remember, and hi to those who are new and do not yet know me!

Eventful summer with surgery for me and my father {with complications}, and surgery for me again first on my right hand, then again on my left hand. FIL had some serious medical issues earlier this summer/year.

I am now in physical therapy for both of my hands and my back.

Nothing, and I mean nothing that I mentioned earlier this year got done. I never had the huge garage sale I wanted to have to purge us of "shtuff" that we have, and make a little money. Living in a  trailer without much storage is a pain.

Nothing got done MR style either. My small layout has done nothing but gather a lot of dust. Needless to say I did not take it down as I talked about either. We can barely find the room that it is in literally. I was gonna take down the small layout to gain room in that room, and have the sale to clear out other "shtuff" in there we don't use or need. I couldn't run trains now anyway until i thoroughly clean the track now anyway. I never built the new small layout with both HO and N scales on it for under the tabletop tree either and here it is time to put up the tree. Don't know yet if I feel like doing that either. I may just put up the tree and skip the trains this year.

My other half's job was evaporating, and left us near destitute financially this year. My disability check only goes so far. A new job has evolved and although part-time now, is hoping to be worked into fulltime and is better than the old evaporating job, and my other half is far happier doing this new job, except for a sometimes overbearing boss {aren't they all, and isn't it their job to make one's life miserable at work? lol}. Thank heavens for the "bank of dad" from both my father and my FIL this year to get by. about $3000 worth of repairs went into my van this summer. At least my father had it to give/lend to me. And FIL helped with groceries.

Jeffrey W  sounds like you have had an eventful time as well. Hi again.

well, i have bored you all to tears now so I will go now.

Hope all had a Happy Holiday last week.

-G .

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Baked fish dinner with steamed veggies, please.

Glued the floor to the (wife's HO) mobile home, only to realize I had not glued the parchment paper inside the windows yet. Tore the floor out quick before the glue set. Just got the "windows" in and will re-glue the floor in a while. Trying to finish projects while not paying enough attention to what I'm doing.Dunce

Living in a  trailer without much storage is a pain.

Your trailer is likely larger than mine. It's 8 feet wide by 25 feet long and has one closet that measures 21 inches deep by 41 inches wide by 72 inches high. The majority of the front room (7 feet, 8 inches wide by 13 feet long) is taken up by my layout. This leaves a little space in the already cramped kitchen on the west side and the east side of the kitchen is taken up by the fridge and the front door. A narrow gap between the east and west sides opens onto a short hall measuring just over 4 feet long and 21 inches wide and is bordered by the closet on the east side and the bathroom on the west side. At the end of the hall is my bedroom, a small space that measures 7 feet 8 inches wide by 6 and a half feet long. The bathroom is 46 inches long x 48 inches wide and is very tight. Does your trailer seem so cramped now? The 14 x 52 that my neighbor lives in seems like a mansion compared to mine.

For those who are interested, the layout (HO Scale) runs 10 feet north-south along the west wall, turns east through a 36 inch curve on an extension (18" radius) then runs 17 inches north-south and turns toward the east wall running east-west another 17 inches then turns north to travel north-south along the east wall then turns west to travel east-west for about 7 and a half feet and returns to the starting point beside the west wall. A passing siding goes from the west side to the east side creating an oval that's 90 inches by 55 inches. The rest of the outer line is on an extension roughly 39 inches by 51 inches about 52 inches of track to the turnout where the passing meets the main at the east wall and about 26 inches of track where the passing siding meets the main at the west wall. The inner loop is a 73 inch by 48 inch oval an dis joined to the passing siding by a crossover track. The inner loop has one long spur that comes off the back side and turns 180 degrees and terminates in two smaller spurs, one of which runs past the foundry and terminates at the north engine house (Knutzville) and the other spur terminates near the Shell station. The passing siding has one spur that terminates at the south engine house (Sundown). The outside main has 2 spurs which are both mostly on the extension. One is a short dead end spur and the other is a double ended spur that terminates near the passing siding at one end and at a car barn at the south end, next to the south engine house. Is everyone thoroughly confused by now? If I could feel what I touch and my vision was better I would have gone with N Scale. That would have been a huge layout in the space provided.

Hey ya'll RBF for me.

We have an intresting storm going on. It's around 45 degrees, the wind is blowing at about 25, gusting up to 45 and it's pouring. On thursday it's supposed to get into the 20s and a 70% chance of rain. Maybe it will snow this year.

I'm not doing much of anything today, the 11-hour non-stop workday is killer, even on me (and I'm 20).

JR: Happy B-day. I'll try the bat to see if it'll smooth out the hammering.

Jim, doubt I'll get attacked anymore. Almost everything that weighs mre than 10 pounds is in, except for the seats and rugs.

I have plans for Thursday. I'm going to Panama City to meet a girl I've been talking to for a while, then I go to an HS and do some railfanning of the Bay Line.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Sam- Congratulations!

Rob- (he he) Don't feel alone on the not paying attention part.

G- Hey! Sign - Welcome back. Boy it sounds like you had a rough time since we last talked. Er, typed. I hope the health and mobility issues are on the mend first off, then of course the financial end of things. I assume the Father and FIL issues are better I hope? Yeah things sure get tight allright. Never at a good time. And it all hits like a massive snowball sometimes too. It's how we weather it that counts. Sounds like you've been beaten up but not beaten out. Good for you. What you need now is a good dose of.....US!!Big Smile! Don't worry about the layout it'll be there when you're ready, shoot mine waited what, 30 years? Leaned up against the wall in the garage behind some plywood. Best thing I found while cleaning out my Mothers house. (She's moved into Springfield and the massive cleanup  has been going on for 2 years next month. Don't know if you remember the big "who has the most junk" debate that went on. If I remeber correctly, you held your own though I do believe I won. Whistling) I don't think yours will have to wait near THAT long, but you get the idea. You can still talk about it and stuff in here so that's the next best thing.

MR didn't come in the mail today. Should I start the monthly thread about it, or just wait for it to show up? I'm leaning toward just waiting. Whistling

Jeff- Confused? Nope! Remember you drew a trackplan for us a couple of diners ago! HA!! Glad you didn't try to go to Alexandria today. You probably would have regretted it. And yes, if you could have gone N scale you would have had so much stuff in that area you'd forget where half the things were.

I've actually thought of scraping everything and going N scale a couple of times in the past to accomodate all the things I want. But then I realize it's so small........HOW WOULD I KNOW!

Drove her crazy 'til the day she died.Whistling

lol, yeah man. Eh, my name's jsut special, lol.

Thanks Sam, and congrats!

We won 46-21! 2-0 on the year, rolled in both victories!

Good Evening, Chloe - my late lunch was great; now I'll have a slice of roast beef - done medium, some mashed potatoes with gravy, broccoli with butter, and a slice of apple pie with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top. And a glass of your best Finger Lakes red wine, please. Thanks! That should tide me over for today, and hopefully before long, Petra will have her kitchen all set up the way she likes it and we'll have some more apfelstrudel. Yeah!! Dinner

So tell me.

Hey!! I did that!! As to why----I'm not sureBanged Head

Hmmm, listening to you two guys has me wondering about trying that (but maybe I won't...). Todd, maybe you could spray some Dullcoat over the whole thing? Hey, as for mispronouncing the state's name, there's Missour-ee (I refuse to pronounce an **I** as "uh" - as in "duh...").Whistling

Sawyer - now, if you just had Sawyer Brown's money, you could really do a big layout! Wink It sounds like your school's teams are continuing to roll on. Thumbs Up

Ray, you guys got sn*w WHERE? ("...where the sun don't shine.") - Wow!!, that must be one awesome sn*wstorm there! Smile,Wink, & Grin By the way, can I eavesdrop on your soldering clinic on Saturday? CanIcanIcanI??Tongue

Robby - I hope for your shift that there's a "time-of-day" differential (increase). 2-ohmygoshthat'searly-thirty in the AM??Shock I thought it was bad when I had to get to w**k at the post office by 5:30 a.m....

Jeff, sounds like - between your foot and the internet, it's been one of those Banged Head Banged Head Banged Head Banged Head Banged Head Banged Head days... Did you get to watch any fun or interesting videos, at least? Hey, on your layout, I got lost partway through the describing (but then again, I'm more visually oriented for directions).Confused But if you had your layout in N scale, it would be monstrously big! (Think I'll got hunt down that old layout pic that you'd posted way back when...) When do you see your foot doctor again, by the way? Got to get that foot taken care of, man!

Galaxy, sorry to hear about your summer and early fall, but glad to hear your other half's job situation is starting to turn back up. There definitely are times when family can be a Godsend. Angel Most of those things you didn't get to, can be taken care of later (when you feel more up to doing them). Have a beverage and dinner of your choice on me. And Sign - Welcome back, as Barry said!

Rob - is your wife's trailer one of those by NuComp? (kind of cream-colored resin castings?) Or is that one of those Imex ones I sorta recall you got a ways back? Good thing you caught the omission for the windows in time.Oops

Trainman Sam, so you're going for accuracy rather than speed or distance, eh? Congratulations on passing your verbal test! How many more (if any) tests until you start driving, by the way (or are you already)?

Turned off my cell phone this afternoon when I came home to fix dinner, and will be turning off the pager about now. I've found that if we have new people on the crisis line, they sometimes don't realize that I do NOT come on shift until 4:30 in the evening (NOT 12 midnight a.m.), or they will call me before THEY go off shift at midnight to inform me about something that unless I am already on-call, I don't really need to know. Not taking any chances on their messing (TM - Fergie) with my sleep.

I was pleased - after checking my bank account balance online and comparing it to the entries I had in Quicken (from receipts) including those that haven't shown up yet - to find that I have a bit more money in the account than I'd thought. That's always a nice surprise! I also found out last night that I had already paid my MRR club dues for November (thought I hadn't yet), which was good. Oh, speaking of the club, we're gonna have our Christmas dinner on Sunday (early) afternoon, at an Oriental buffet. (Ah, well...)

Vincent - hope you have a good trip - on both counts! Smile

Todd, your MR shouldn't be too much longer; mine showed up the tail end of last week. Some pretty useful stuff in it, so keep checking your mailbox. Someday, it will come!

I'll be at the corner booth, finishing up my dinner. Prayers will continue for healing, for some usable MRR'ing time, for better financial/job situations, and for a little Silent Night somewhere in there, to rest up.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

I go to see the foot doc again on Friday. The Home Health nurse will be around to get a blood sample on Thursday morning. On the subject of movies, I watched a rare version of Titanic. It was an all German version that was put out as a propaganda attempt in the early 40's. The first officer was a German by the name of Peterson and the British officers were all portrayed as incompetent fools. The rich were portrayed as sleazy cowards and the only heroes were Peterson and a small group of Germans in steerage. Many of the shots and camera angles are strikingly similar to those used in James Cameron's version of Titanic.
