Found out what's going on with my right ankle. The fibula (long thin leg bone behind the tibia (shin bone)) has pulled away from the talus, a bone in the top of the foot that sit sits atop of the calcaneus aka the heel bone. A ligament which holds the fibula in place against the tibia has been stretched. This has caused the bones to move apart and is therefore wreaking havoc with the muscles. Being that my foot is already in such bad shape there's really nothing they can do for it except watch it. The ligament will heal in time. The doc told me that this kind of damage could be caused if the ankle were twisted sharply and folded over to the outside so I was standing on the side of my foot. The ankle became a problem about a week ago and the only thing that happened that folded my ankle in this fashion was when my niece's Great Dane (110 pound puppy) knocked me over. It started hurting shortly after that encounter. For anyone else the pain would have been immediate but with my nerve damage it didn't show up until the bones started hurting. By then the damage was done. There's not much the doc can do for that but he's concerned the swelling could have some issues in that when the skin stretches germs could get in and set off a cellulitis infection and there is some swelling between the ankle and knee to support that. He's put me on Vancomycin for a week to see if it will make a difference. Vancomycin is an antibiotic that must be administered by iv and being that I have an iv port that's not a problem. He was talking about admission to the hospital but I told him very flatly 'NO!'. After nearly going blind from my last stay there I'm not giving them another chance at it unless there's absolutely no other way. That was the whole idea with having this iv port installed in the first place. I should be receiving my first three days of the Vancomycin tomorrow.

 Jeffrey.

Sorry that you are under the weather with a bum ankle/foot. Hope that you get better soon. You had better have your niece train that dog so that he knows that he is NOT a lap dog.

I know what it is like to have large lap dogs around. My daughter and son-in-law had an 80+ pound Doberman that thought that he was a lap dog. He was a vicious beast and would climb up on your lap and try to lick you to death. YEUCK. LO Laugh

I can relate with the lap doberman. My sister had one, a male, that weighed in at 110 pounds and stood almost 30 inches at the shoulder. The biggest danger with him was getting bothered to death. He only lived about 10 years.

"Coffee Please.. just a short .. Howdy~  Then I'm off to mow the lawn.

"Wow Jeff", my heart goes out for you.  Deep down inside I was hoping for a speedy recovery without any curveballs.  You hang in there buddy,  everytime I hear you talk, I know you're well informed.

  Sawyer.. I left you a P.M.  Important!

Jim.. I"m working on it~  Good reading by the way.

Jerry .. Nice pics..  Seems I thought you were just beginning.. not done~

Todd Chris.. or who ever it was.. I think it was you.. your reply on glue.. and gluing.  I think I made everymistake on gluing. But here it is.100_0509.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Rob .. or was it Robby.. my shed100_0505.jpg picture by Blazzin55

I had to tone it down a bit.  Being that I used the shiny steel metal..  the corregated material gave off a shimmer.. and even the rust .. moved as the eyes moved around it.

Thats it.. and that was enough.  Now.. since the TG holiday is over.. I can pull out all my stuff so I can work again on the layout.  Seems Jeanne went on straightened out everything. lol.  Now where was my glue.. ~ ?

   Special Delivery for Jim

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM.   Hope your favorite wishes come true.

Are you going to be with that new favorite squeeze of yours (2) ???

Jeff:  You are in our prayers.  You have really been working that foot and leg out lately.   Please take better care of yourself.

Ulrich & Petra ,  so glad you are back.  Don't sweat the small stuff, that will all get done in order in due time.  Do what you can and get lots of rest. You are still healing and you don't want a set back.

ROB,   Hope all is well with your inlaws.  Those things can be a real strain on a family, but what do you do but hang in there and do what you can for them.  Take care as well though, your health doesn't need to be further comprimized.   Sounds like the artist is really coming alive in the scenery making on your wife's layout.   Any more pics ??

Health and well being to all.    I am at work here so better cut this short.

Johnboy out for now...........

Keith, there's nothing in my inbox.

John, PM sent. lol, it seems the generally accepted pronunciation is soy-yer, though the pronunciation of my name is saw-yer. Usually only people with a southern accent say it right, lol.

Robby, thanks. Eh, that's life; always going to have the guy who thinks he's hot crap. only ways to beat those guys is just ignore them or smoke them if they're all talk and no bite.

Pretty good day today. School didn't drag on forever, thank the lord.

Strong coffee in a  SOGGY SOUTHERN  mug, please.

***Jeffrey, sounds serious indeed. Glad you didn't have to be admitted though, as you are correct regarding hospitals and how being there can make some things worse or give you troubles you didn't have in the first place. Fingers & toes crossed for you.

MIL is back from the hospital. Back to normal, (normal for her with her condition that is).

Haven't been back down to the train room today. So what is the best way to clean up the rails? I added a film of clipper to them before spraying the ballast (wish I had remembered to soak that first, but didn't...OOPS). Anyone use a bright boy eraser? Additional suggestions will be much appreciated.

Time for the evening critter rounds.

Chloe got any more pumpkin pie?  OK I'll have a slice and a decafe in a R&GV mug please.  I'll go sit in the back booth by the stove.

Barry, got snow tires on the truck but just all weathers on the Yaris.  Little thing is very surefooted in almost anything.

BTW, Saw.... er Soy.... whatever you're name is.  I want to add my voice to the crowd who thinks your work is pretty darned good for 14!  At your age I was playing Gomez Adams with my Lionel trains.........

I finished up the wiring of the track in the logging area.  Torti seem to w**k and all I have to do before starting to revamp the scenery is to check and repair the guage of the track to make sure it is all within specs.

John (der) I sent along that video to a bunch of my family and several musician types.  I will quote a response  from a fellow (former) music teacher (band) and model railroader:  "That's fantastic - you just can't beat a Gershwin tune! ;)"  I emailed him back and told him that they evidently did several pieces.....  (stop eating and drinking for a minute here....)  Bach to Bach......Whistling

I have the dubious honor of being Head Usher at the late service for the month of December...  I am sitting here waiting for call backs from several people....... This week I get the list of ushers ready and will have a sub for me as I will be at the RIT Train Show all weekend.

Hello ....

Jeff ... Sorry to hear about the foot situation.

Ulrich .... It's good to hear from you. Sorry things are not the best regarding the moving.

Jim .... What's this about a birthday? ......... Hope it is a happy one.

Rob .... Are cleaning rails after ballasting? If so, a dull putty knife should get you started. Then follow up with a brite boy.

Keith ... Your buildings look great.

Jerry .... your layout looks great, too.

Ray said ... "Bach to Bach......" .....  (Said Ray holding no bars.)

Speaking of dogs, we had one visiting from MI and one visiting from OH over the Thanksgiving holidays. The one from Cincinnati is a giant mix breed. They had him tied up outside and he was barking. I went out to see what was happening, and it was funny. The dog would bark and hear his echo from across teh lake. he barked at his echo. He and his echo would have barked back and forth indefinately if I did not interrupt.

The big dog spent the nights in the garage. his last night here, he got into the mouse poisen and got really sick. He needed an emergency trip to the vet. He's OK now. A small dog would have been killed with that amount of poisen. .

Back to the layout. I'm still on the learning curve with DCC using my SD units. Also, I opened up the boxes for my new street cars. These are Bachmann Peter Whitt street cars on sale from Micro-Mark for about half price. I'm having fun with them, and I feel inspired to complete my city with a streetcar line in it.

Happy Model Railroading

.

No trains today. Maybe tomorrow.

Ray- Just because.

Ulrich- HEY! Welcome back. Sorry things aren't going well but they'll work their way out. Hang in there.

Jeff- Ouch. Don't like the sounds of that. I suppose it could have been worse. As a mechanic I often thought throughout the years it would be nice to not be bothered with pains. After listening to you over the past year, I've become grateful I can. Sounds odd doesn't it. Anyway, stay off the foot and away from the dog!

Saw-yer- (he he) Guaranteed in the mid west you'd be Soy-yer. Of course we say worsh (wash), Toma-tuh, Pitcher (picture) Bowl (boil) and of course welp. I could go on for ever. I constantly get the corrections. Is it surprising coming from a state that mispronounces their name and then corrects others because they mispronounce it differently. And by the way, I know you've heard it enough to make you sick but I think you are doing well. Very well. I'm not an expert by any stretch but I must say , since I have been on this forums and watching your work, you have improved tremendously and keep improving every day. I'm seeing someone progressing before my very eyes and it couldn't happen to a nicer kid, er guy. I'd be proud of the work your doing now and I'm sure looking forward to what you're doing next. You go girl! Oh wait that's not right. (I shouldn't try to keep up with these modern sayings).

Rob- yes I do use a Brite Boy. It does well if you can reach all the track and do it frequently and have free access to the parts you can reach. I like Toms deal best though. A bit more expensive though.

Barry eats grease burgers and accuses me of laying whoopee cushionsMischief. I think I'm a scape goat.

Tomorrow I shall type phonetically Midwestern for those of you who may miss it, those of you who have never heard it and those Teachers who haven't heard the likes of sounds of fingernails on the blackboard in a while.

Good Evening, Chloe - just a mug of hot cocoa and a slice of birthday cake, please. Yep, I'll have the hot cocoa in a Rio Grande mug, thanks!

And THANK YOU to everyone for the birthday cake and greetings! Calif.Tom - a brass Mikado, for me? Aw, you shouldn't have. What? Uff-Dah said you have to have it back tonight for him and Spooky (to play with while you sleep)? Sigh Smile,Wink, & Grin

Actually, I'm off w**k today (and tomorrow) - I'd already asked off for today a while back, but since I had the on-call last Sat./Sunday, the way the scheduling goes, I get both Monday and Tuesday off, and then have the evening on-call Wed./Thurs./Friday, and am off next weekend. Can you say "MRR'ing TIME!" Diners? Wink Maybe tomorrow or next weekend I'll actually get back to posting pics in here...

Think I had a reply half-written this morning, when Firefox got stuck in some kind of loop, and I had to force it to quit - losing everything I'd written. Banged Head No warning or anything - one minute it was fine, then the 'spinning beachball of death'... I could switch to the Finder, and it was running great, but each time I went back to Firefox, same ol' #$%*&^... Ah, well...

Keith, that depot is looking excellent (enginehouse too - how'd you tone down the shiny steel?). Oh, I forgot what that reading was about, already...Confused Hey, on my birthday, I figured there wasn't much to do in (usually snowy) February in Missouri. Blush

Blue Flamer - Sign - Welcome to the Diner! If you posted a description of your layout/dreams for said MRR, etc., I'll get to it tonight - I hope!

Jeff, that is NOT good, and I would make sure you keep a close eye on that foot in the meantime while the antibiotic is kicking in. And maybe ask sister to have someone else take care of her dog next time (or until your foot and leg are completely healed). Extra AngelAngel for your foot and healing.

Rob, hope your mother-in-laws' health problems get tended to without wearing out your wife (or you). AngelAngel Have you heard any more since MIL went to the Dr./ER? I see you posted she was back. My oops!

Johnboy, nope on the 'squeeze,' after a phone conversation with her, it turned out that she gets anxious easily around new people (and likely needs a more patient man than me). Told her we could be friends, but that I didn't think things would go any further than that. Haven't heard back from her in a couple of days (but then again, I was on call Sat. & Sun.).

Ulrich, good to see you back in the Diner (and give yourselves some time to get things put away and straightened up. Anytime I've moved, there is that process of "Now, WHAT box did I put (insert name of object here) before the move?" for a bit afterward, until everything is unpacked and where I want it to go...

Chris, you have some neat RR stuff in your corner there! Thumbs Up It's your train room, but I think that CNW yellow would wear out my eyes before very long. Oops Of course, YMMV....

Let's see - Vincent's getting attacked by his Mustang, Jerry has the I&S back on schedule and running again, and Calif. Tom's probably going to wait until the last minute before his glorious trip to inform her Highness and the Viking Warrior that they will not be going along for the ride Shock Tom, you'd better get over that bronchitis and gather your strength (in case you have to wrestle any felines before your trip). Whistling

Sawyer, maybe people have trouble with your name because they're used to how they (mis?)pronounce Sawyer Brown (country musician/group)?

CN Charlie, maybe the same gremlin got your post that got mine this morning...

Last night I didn't get a lot done because I was watching the Hallmark special ("Dog Named Christmas"). Of course, I'm a bit of a softy for several Hallmark ads, too. Oops

Got in my order from Dallas Model Works today, and the new MR and RMC. Not that enthralled with the new RMC issue. Oh yeah, and the Walthers sale flyer, with the cover (once again) torn off but stuck into my mail box. Think I'll write Walthers a suggestion that they use heavier stock for their covers, as about one out of every two or three sale flyers arrives torn off. Grumpy

Oh, back to my order - I got a CMW Greyhound bus (blank sign - I'll make my own), some figures for my diner car, and a Bar Mills 1-Kit (their kind of 'modular' kit, for lasercut craftsman type stuff. Having looked at the kit and directions, I'll have to save that one until my skills are better.

About time for this birthday boy to head for home. I'll be back for some more cake with my breakfast (if the night crew doesn't eat it all up). Prayers for a lot of healing - that lately seems to be needed. AngelAngel

[Edit:] Well, Chloe, better start my tab - looks like I have the night shift/breakfast TOP honors. I'll settle up in the morning after I get breakfast, if it's okay. Thanks!

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Evenin', a greaseburger sounds GOOD! Dinner

BARRY: Who ME?

Why is everybody always pick'n on me... ("Charlie Brown" the Coasters)

SAWyer: Welp, I'm also guilty of mis-prounounicating your name... Then again, it took in-laws from near New Orleans to teach me it's "NahLens" and not "New Orleens."

JIM: Hey, a belated happy birthday to you Sir! On THAT CNW yellow...THAT's why it's mostly confined to the "junk" corner Smile,Wink, & Grin Can you imagine if I'd used the 1980s and early 90's Zito ("safety" or "sunburst") yellow???? Dead  Funny thing with the yellow I got, it looked more "right" on the sample card than it does on the walls...Confused

Thanks for the compliments on the "stuff." It was pretty much all obtained back in my late teens/early 20s. The signal was rescued from a junk pile and extensively rehabilitated. Same with the crossing bell, which was rescued from a junk pile in '87. When I first hauled it home, I was in a bit of trouble with my Dad for a) dragging a rusty piece of junk into the house, and b) swiping the RR's junk (which is one reason why St. Peter and I might have to have a conversation when I'm summoned to the Gate). I returned to drafting school in Illinois after that weekend. My next trip home, he had me go into the basement with him. I figured I was in for yet another sermon/lecture...to my surprise, he had soaked the rusted mechanism in Liquid Wrench, freed it up, cleaned it up, and had it hooked up to a power supply. With a grin, he flipped the switch and it started clanging away! Confused

The Milwaukee switch stand part was found in the weeds, broken off of a switch on abandoned trackage in Cedar Rapids. I grabbed it early one morning in '86 or '87. Dad was also an unhappy camper since a) this rusty piece of metal had ridden home in the backseat of his car... and b) I was swiping RR stuff (I don't think the Milwaukee Road really missed it, especially since they left town in '80...). Not long after, he helped me mask and paint it. Confused The crossbuck was rescued, with the full permission of an Iowa Northern Railway employee, from a scrap pile in Vinton, Iowa. Oh yeah, the derail...a buddy and I liberated it from an abandoned track one hot day in '86 or '87. When I drug that thing home... whoo-boy.

The older I get, the wiser he gets...though I may never understand some of the things I/he/we did back in my late teens.

JEFF: Did they fit you with any kind of brace or "boot" to try and keep things from moving around in there??? As I was reading your description, I was cringing big-time. I hope they at least got you some kind of pain med to go with the antibiotic.

TODD: You silly Illinoisian, it's WARSH, not WORSH....geeeeez Dunce Mischief

KEITH: Hey Pal, them buildings look fine to me! If you had a botch-job with the gluing, I'm sure not seeing it. Them bricks look goodly too! Thumbs Up There, some good Iowa grammer for ya...

Welp, THAT is a happy little camper. She liked the winery story! Maybe I'll tell her about how Mr. Beam helped me write it...then again, maybe not.

ULRICH: Welcome back! Very, very glad to see you back in here. Sorry the move has been more "Project Ex-Lax" rather than "Operation Smooth Move." I couldn't tell you how long it was after we moved in that we still had stuff in boxes. It'll all shake-out sooner or later. Wish there was some way we could give you a hand.

On THAT note, have a goodnight everybody...

Evening everyone from ChillyCal:

Clear as a bell, temperatures have decided to drop into the 'forties around here, and the snow that fell in the Sierra is going to hang around for a while, I think--Truckee's high today was 25!

Well, woke up feeling rather chipper and unclogged this morning, so went into school--good thing I did.  Today was Jesuit's "Christmas Tree Lane" at the Raddison Inn, and it's the big Fall fund-raiser.  And they forgot to get Carolers to entertain the massive amounts of parents and friends of the school that show up for this yearly event.

Panic button!!!  Can you put together some kids from the choir to come over and sing Christmas Carols for about 45 minutes tonight just before the dinner?   Leah and I looked at each other.  Announced it in Concert Choir this morning.  Got 25 of the kids that raised their hands and said "yeah!".   Arrived over at the Raddison this evening about 7:00 with the guys, went into the dining area to 'Carol' the parents and the Trustees and all of the people who help keep the school going.  Couldn't find the piano.  Guys just looked at Leah.  "We can't sing without Doc, Miss Heine."  Found the piano.  It was crammed between the stage and the stairs leading up to it.  Not even room to sit.

They sang, I stood and played.  They sounded wonderful.  I had no light at the piano while I stood and played.  I THINK I was in the same key, LOL!   Evidently I was, because we were one BIG hit!   God Bless those guys--volunteering at the last minute.  And doing it so professionally.  "Hey, we sing.  No Big Deal, that's what we DO!"

Anyway, either from the sheer shock of it or whatever, the Bronchitis has decided to go away.

Todd:  Good point.  I must have forgotten to tell you guys.  I stopped puff-puffing in August.  Only problem is that food tastes so GOOD these days, that I have to watch my waist.  VERY carefully, LOL!

Jeff:  Take care of that leg problem.  It sounds nasty.  Sincere prayers for a good recovery.  BTW, I really like that photo you posted.  That backdrop is amazing!

Ray:  Whoah!  George Eastman?   I bow to you and your French Horn, my friend. Bow  That is one FABULOUS Music School!

Jim:  Belated Happy B-Day, and I'm sorry that Uff-Dah tied such a long rubber band to that brass Mikado.  It slammed back into his furry little paws this afternoon.  I gave him a lecture on "Indian-Giving", his answer was, "Well, it was a USRA Light, Daddy, and it was the only one you had."   Confused   Oh well--maybe next year?

Well, time for bed.  I'm still very Spiked about the guys and how well they did tonight on about six hours notice.  I'll tell you--anyone who wants to grouse or mutter about this new generation of young high-school men--come see me first, I will be VERY happy to straighten your outlook!Wink

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom  Big Smile

I came home, collapsed.  The guys are probably still over there having a ball.

 Good Morning,

well, what do you say -it is Dec. 1st! Petra and I enjoyed Bach´s Christmas Oratory yesterday, together with a lit-up candle and a glass of wine - first time we felt a little at home in our flat. It is still all long way to go until we reach a state where we can say it is our home, but each day we come a little closer.

The day we left our house was very hard on me. Watching the moving people taking out all our belongings was bad, but the worst came when the told me that our old 18th century book case could not be moved into the flat - too big. No way to take it apart without serious damage to it. I just sat down and started to cry like a child. Leaving it behind was that one drop that made the bucket overflow. We had bought it 7 years ago in a local antique furniture store. The next day I went there and asked the to take it back for little money - better than just leave it in the house for nothing! The bloke flatly refused to buy it back, but offered to trade it for two similar, but smaller book cases! He did not ask for any compensation - how can he make a living? The two book cases are worth more than the big one we traded in.

The next days will see some tinkering around, like putting up lamps, curtains - and a lot of unpacking! The most commonly used phrase between Petra and me is "Where is.... "

By Christmas we will have finished the move. Our son Christian will be visiting us for the holidays, so "his" room needs to be ready. Hopefully I will find some time to make plans for that extra space in the attic.... MRR time is coming!

You all have a good day!

Good morning all,

Jeff, best wishes on a speedy recovery.

Snow is in the forecast for the next 3 days up here on the north coast.  I went into the train room last night with the good intentions of doing some track maintenance and wound up working on scenery for 3 hours.  Up here a popular weed along the tracks is Queen Anne’s lace. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daucus_carota these seem to survive almost anywhere including all rail and highway right of ways.  So I picked up some dried weeds from Michel’s and started cutting and installing these by hand along the tracks last night.  I hope to have the small area near the FC tower completed tonight.

Next week, right after TWhite’s birthday is my birthday, maybe the two of us should bring some layout pictures to the diner while we share some coffee and cake.

I have to get me to some field and get me somadat!!---Whistling

Good Morning---

The snow fell last night and left us with enough of a layer to scrape off'n the car. A bit on the ground and enough moisture on the roads to have black ice alerts now all over the radio stations--gonna be a few sunny breaks and a few flurries and showers with the high forecast at 4C and tonight's low at -1C.Tomorrow will have a high of 1C with clouds--

I am going into the trainroom and work up another machine shop for Eric's layout---and try to figure out non fuzzinesses on close ups with the camera---this oughta be funConfused

Ulrich: Moving can be pretty hard on a person. I've done enough moving with Audrey that we became pretty hard nosed about a lot of the stuff we had--and sometimes I wonder --Whistling How much space did you manage to get in terms of layout space? Take care----

Chloe,I'll have a toasted bagel with an egg/sausage patty as well as a coffee please---I'll be sitting at the window booth----checking for whoopie cushions----none found---Smile

Good Morning All,

28 but sunny this morning with a bit of a breeze. Back in the shop and getting ready for the return of the team from Florida with the semi which needs to park inside for the next few weeks. Lots of rearranging to do! The test weekend went well at Summit and I got back home in time to visit with #2 son before he went back to Plattsburg (finals and then back home in two weeks).

Jim - a belated Happy Birthday. We seem to have a lot of them clustered together here (it's my 60th today).

Ulrich - welcome back. What a nice gesture by the shop owner. I know you're down having to move but just when you feel lowest something happens that is unexpectedly nice. Boxes and turmoil and issues are expected but I'm sure you and Petra will perservere and truimph at the end of it.

Jeff - Our prayers for your successful recovery. The extra problems with the lower leg are a setback for sure but hopefully If you can stay off it enough the muscle and tendon will heal up. You probably don't want to hear it, but would crutches be a help in the short run? At least when you need to go out you can keep weight off the foot.

Todd - I also use the alcohol to soak the ballast before adding the diluted glue or matte medium. The other trick even with a fine sprayer is to mist the alcohol up away from the ballast so it floats down without a jet of air pushing the ballast out of the way.

Vincent - while we're on the advice kick, try using a piece of 2 x 4 to roll the fender lip. Insert wood between inflated tire and offending sheet metal and get someone to roll the car pulling the wood through the gap between the tire and wheel opening. An old baseball bat also works really well. I flared the wheel arches on my Festiva and Focus that way and stopped the tires rubbing. (Yes we have a Ford Festiva with trick tires, springs, shocks and other stuff - don't laugh).

Well - got to get out to the shop and get on with it. Catch y'all later. J.R.

Good morning everbody. Pancakes'n Sausage please. Yep, coffee too thank you. Today notthe greatestuh days. Sump-m in th-air idn't agreein' with my bones. Almost hatetuh say anything 'cause I feel like I'm still lucky comparedtuh many. Otherdn'at seems tuh be a good day buildin' here'n Illinoy.

Barry- OK, ok. I'll admit I have brought inna whoopee cushionertwo IN THE PAST. Aaaaand there maybe one-ertwo left around that are no longer in my control. However, a Greaseburger is a good example of why you shouldn't be held totally blameless.

Chris- You guys withyer funny accents. Warsh. Ha.Laugh

Tom- Great news on the smoking! Now, not only do I admire your Railroad but your willpower too. I oughta quit. I wanna quit. (I could use the pounds too.)

Ulrich- About the bookcase swap...... 'Tis the season. Random acts of kindness just happen. It's universal my friend. It's universal.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY J.R.!!!!!! Oddly enough, I never thought of that. I now just piper eyedropper thalcohol on. Festiva? (snicker) Oh I'm not laughing. (snicker)

OK Now ferme. On the MRR front. Tuday, I hopetuh get in some MRR time. I'm not satisfied with my end wherethe Town With No Name is. (or will be). Might just haftuh sulicite some help on-at. My new backdrop is ok except fer the car. It seems a bit, well, large. I figger a tree inthuh way to block it. I'm also gonna trytuh copy a coupleuh sheets to extend it. Should prove tuh be interesting,

OK this isn't going so well. It's too hard to type as I talk. Besides it reads wrong anyway. Most people will read things like "fer" and "tuh" emphasize them and throw a southern drawl in there to sound like Snuffy Smith. Our "fer's" and "tuh's" and other pronunciations that are stereotyped are said without the emphasis placed on them by some other areas. You'll notice the biggest issue is combining words to make one word. And dropping letters we don't feel are necessary. More efficient that way.

Have a Great Day!!!

Mornin,,,, an irish coffee please Zoe, with double on the irish part. Maybe it'll help with this head cold Yazee gave me.

Well we made it through Thanksgiving with 5 [Roni n the girls came in from Ohio] of the 6 kids, 14 of the 23 grandkids, and of course our great grand baby [none of the step grands were here darn it]

It was sure nice to have them here and when they all left too.

Now ta catch up a tad.

A late Happy Burthen day JIM and for ALL those others I've missed this month. Sure was a bunch of'em here. There's 11 in the family here also.

ULRICH,,, glad ya'll finally got the moving done, even thou the unpackings taking some time. Hope things really start goings better for ya's.

JEFF,,, take care of that foot.

ROB,,,,, good the MIL's back to her somewhat normal self

TOM,,, good to hear your feelin betters too and just in time I see.

For anyone else I've missed on sick call, our thoughts be with you.

I've kinda been keeping up with all the MRR'ing going on and there's been a bunch in here. Great work and great pics by all ya's. Kept it up.

Finally been getting in some play time myself with a lot of running time this past weekend and even a little layout work. Mother picked up 4 cartoon strip billboard cars of a friend ours n JERRY's, Betty Boop, Mandrake the Magician, Katzenjammer Kids, and Prince Valiant. As far as other RR'ing, it's not much. Haven't been out chasein any trains for a bit, just watchin them go by out the train room winder. My step FIL picked me up 4 old RR books at a yard sale for .50. The Locomotives Baldwin Built by Fred Westing, 1831-1923, A Locomotive Engineers Album, Rails West both by George Abdill, and the Complete Book of Model Railroading, by David Sutton. So I've got plenty of wintertime reading along with all the paperback westerns I picked up at yards sales.

Ok that's bout it for me, got chores needin do'in and KC's hollering for PBS on here. Catch ya laters n hope ya'll has a gooden.

 Good Afternoon,

it has been a sunny, but cold day - no sn*w in sight in this area. Did not do much today, just a little tinkering here and there.

Zoe, how about some coffee in my LKAB mug and a slice of that pecan pie, topped off with some vanilla ice cream?

The internet connection is not yet stable and my notebook has not yet found its place, but it feels so good to be connected to my friends again. The flat is starting to look a lot better now that the curtains are up and some of that bric-a-brac is finding a new place.  The bedroom is completely finished and, although being very small, has a lot of atmosphere. The living room needs work, but more in the "underground", i.e. floor lining behind the sofa and stuff like that. The bathroom needs a lot of work to be nice again, but that has to come a little later. I need to slow down. "An old man is not a fast train" - a true German proverb!

Jeffrey - that foot of yours is worrying me! My Angel for a speedy and thorough recovery!

J.R.Happy B-Day

Barry - the attic is not heated, let alone insulated. Not an ideal place for a layout, but the only chance I have. The space I could occupy is about 16` by 5`, so something L-shaped will fit in. I am not sure whether to revive my previous ARR Port Whittier ideas or go for something completely else - how about logging in On30? Time will tell.

Jerry - only occasionally I see a pic of your layout - please show us more  Tongue

Tom - Christmas caroling is a custom unknown in Germany - I wish I had been a fly on the wall observing your imprompty appearance ... Smile

I have been trying to catch up on the old posts - no chance. I have missed so much!

Sun´s setting now - time to arrange for dinner. Need to buy some things first!

Edit: What´s wrong with good ol´ Greaseburgers? I love them!

Good morning.  Its a cool day today, but no snow.

Seems like some of us have had some snow already, but nothing my way yet.  Maybe later this week, we might get some flurries.

I worked on the layout for about a hour yesterday.   Might make my way down to the basement again.

Hope everybody has a good day.  I will pop back in later.

"Coofee plase in a cop"  ugh.

Hi all, another fine morning.  Sun hasn't come up, and when it does.. it still has to rise above the moutains.  Kind of like a twilight hour.

Garry Thanks for the Kudo's.  It was my first N scale building.  And let me tell you,  I have a new,  greater appreication for people who build these things.  If it wasn't for my magnifying glass stand.. various glues ..  help from these forums here .. and my Hemostats,  I would have ended up throwing it in the trash.  So many tiny pieces,  I tried my wifes tweezers.. and the part flew off like some 'Tittle Wink' .. needless to say.. while looking for the piece (I did find it) (30 mins later) I found my hemostats.   The only tool I'd recommend.

Jim, concerning my corregated tin, I used 3 colors.  Shiny Stainless Steel, grimmy black and rust.  All Polly Scale water soluble.    So~ first I painted it with the Shiny Stainless steel.. then the Dullcote.. then it was too shiny.. and still some after the Dullcote.  But then when and after my first coat of grimmy black and rust.. I thinned down those two colors .. mixing it with the stainless steel.  And in doing so.. it toned down alot.  But by mixing the stainless steel with lets say the Rust color.. it just seemed tone down everything but gave a moving color of all three.  I like it.. and for my second or third model... (I'm building 3 at a time) .. and I happy with the results.100_0501-1.jpg picture by Blazzin55100_0505.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Thats it for today.  I've got to go unpack some stuff.. that Jeanne packed away.. because of Thanks Giving.. holidays.. and guests and what have you~.
