Evenin' folks!

Zoe just a cup of decafe for me.  I'll go sit in the back booth and chil out for a while.

Got a bit more scenery done today.  Also assembled a small battery powered electric tiller/weeder.  Tried it out in the herb garden, but it was too muddy to do much except make looser mud.... We got well over an inch of rain here yesterday.  I also tried to finish the laundry I started yesterday.  Put the last load in the dryer and went and worked on the layout for an hour.  Came back and the clothes were still wet...... Figured I must not have started the dryer, so I reset the timer and came upstairs and had supper.  Went back downstairs and the clothes were..... still wet.  Turned it on again and it sounded like it was running but didn't have the typical sound that clothes make in the rotating dryer.  So I guess the belt has worn out.  This dryer is over 20 years old so it will get replaced with a new energy star model. [edit] well it would except there aren't any.....  So I guess I'll see if I can fix it myself.  I had intended to reinstall the backyard clothesline I had until it wore out a few years back, but with the weather we have had, I would still have to run it in the dryer...........

Ed, nice photos of the area.  Jr. appears to have good tastes for college locations.Smile,Wink, & Grin   Hope to see lots of photos of the trains going by your house when you get internet service hooked up.

Dick, aren't grandkids great!  Nice to have a helper.

Barry, that's how long and in what scale????  I'm still trying to get a handle on 12,000 posts from Jeffrey.........

Todd, I have a couple of those VanD y k e Aermotors on the layout.  They were a popular farm item back in 1925.  Hard to exist without one if you milked more than a few cows.  Takes a while to pump the 50 gallons of water each cow needs every day by hand.

Hope all of you have a great eveing!

Evening all, well it's time to reboot the ole computer. It's leaving the ghosty looking dropdowns when you right click but stay there after you click annoying thing. Speaking of annoying, Missy (the dog) is barking like crazy while Brenda (the perfect wife) is trying to do something with her like saying, "quiet!". Now comes the ballistic puppy run around the living room. Yep. More barking. I wish she would just let the dog out to potty.

Ed- If you're around to get this. I have a buddy of mine who lives in a nearby town and their house backs up to the now UP (old IC, old GM&O, Old ....) mainline and his house is probably 50 ft from the tracks his house is closer to the tracks than yours. Anyway I remeber as a kid spending the night over there and being "rocked awake" especially since he was three houses from the crossing, so you know what little bonus they gotShock. He barely even knew when a train went by. He know lives in the house right next door. On purpose. You'll get used to it.

Robby- I hope the manager understands too. It would be a shame if he didn't

Jim- If you're serious about the NMRA gage, it came with instructions that I would gladly scan and e-mail you. Yeah I don't think it's as much the rivet counter as listening to YOU GUYS and looking at your stuff that makes me want a bit more than just a choo choo train. (actually I'm grateful. It is much more enjoyable and gets more enjoyable every time I work on it.) I watched Andy Sperandeo's video on the MRR site and saw what all it will do and I decided I wanted one.( I wonder if he get's a commision?) I also looked at brass windmills but I choose plastic because I'm familiar with the material and metal kinda scares me at this point. If I had seen a wood one I might have got that. (I know, I know there was a rack full of scale wood there I could have used and probably save some bucks.) I think I'll start off with some metal accessories like catwalks and such for the grainbins first to get my feet wet before jumping into a structure that will be as prominent as the windmill in the tourist trap town. Then again, I don't foresee any other structures I'd need that would be made of brass.

Ray- Aaaa HAH! You've figured out the secret you sly devil you. Space the letters!! Brilliant! Why didn't I think of that. Piece of cake Van * * * *.

Barry- 6 and a half feet of N scale trestle????? T-t-t-t-t-t-restle? Ray said it all.

Oh and now it's 12,013. 14 if he stops in yet tonight.Clown

Angel Zzz

Ah the back door opens and the dog goes out. Peace.

The profile for this thing is a sort of bench/terrace scenario so it steps down to the 1.5' total height at one end of it. If one was on this it would first take you over the mill spur, then a small country road. Drop to a forested bench then to to a highway that is not too far from the river. Once you're over the river it comes back up to the same level of the track in one step--

I think the ol' eyes are going to be crossed when this is done-----Whistling

Good Evening, Chloe? double bacon cheeseburger, fries, large 7-up please 'n thankyou...yep, at the RC.Thumbs Up

Well, as usual, lots of stuff going on in here... I think I'm caught-up on it all...again.

ED: Nice to finally "meet" you, heard lots about your orange juice. Great pics you tacked up, by the way.

TODD: YAY!! 'Tis good to know there's another who dislikes the whole "card" deal/scam. What thinks the King of Toddland about "E-cards?" I like the Granddaughter's reaction: scowl and make doo-doo in the di-di. If only us "adults" could get away with THAT... Mischief

JEFF: Man, you sure do seem to have fun with those DPM buildings. I hear ya on compression... that's been the major stumbling block (well, along with financial resources...) to getting the layout built. Maybe I oughta go find the RMC mentioned in here earlier. Then again, I know WHAT I want to do, I'm just not sure HOW to get it done.

DER JOHN: Your fence still leaves me astounded... Bow You must have hands steadier than a brain surgeon coupled with the patience of a saint.

Speaking of N-sane scale, did I just hear somebody is building a trestle over six feet long, and over a foot tall...in N-sane scale???

As SAWYER would say: "GEESH!"Shock

Sounds like a great project for the obsessive-compulsive, or an insomniac...

ROBBY P: From my time in occupational healthcare, I'd suggest a good wrist brace. The tricky part, is if you report the pain...the employer "should" take care of things for you. Then again, being so new...it could go the other way.Disapprove If you've got any home healthcare equipment/supply places around there, I'd suggest stopping in to get a brace. You might also try ibuproffen if not allergic/no problems with it. Ice for no more than 20 minutes (like on a break, lunch break, etc.) might help too. The resusable ice packs are great for that if they've got a fridge/freezer you can use. How's your wife doing??

RAY (I think it was), the villiage scene you posted in WPF looked fantastic! In fact, my wife even liked it so much, I had to save the pic for her. She's planning on writing and illustrating a childrens' book set in a town very much like what you built.

ULRICH: Heard anything more from the Docs? Any further tests?? Still sending out good vibes for ya Pal...

RYAN: I gotta look over your selection of spices, etc. The more I hear about them around here...the more intrigued by them I'm getting!Dinner

Well, Mr. Rerun is informing me of his great, urgent desire to go outside... apologies to those I missed,

ChrisEight Ball

***EDIT*** TODD: I think your dog was talking to mine... I see yours was asking for "the trip" about the same time as mine. Hmmmmm. Apparently there are cats communicating around here, maybe the dogs are too???

***Barry, GOOD GOD Man, a 6.5' trestle/bridge over a river, highway and a short spur? Can't wait to see some pics of that monster.Cool

Had a real banger storm pass through today. One forked lightning strike hit our farm. For the life of us, we couldn't spot the location or find any damage. Is it possible for a metal hay ring to be struck and not burnt? All we can figure is it hit fencing or the ground or something other than trees. Wife & I were on the screen porch and I was counting out loud with each strike "one-one thousand, two....etc". With that forked strike I didn't even finish saying "One" and CABOOM. Shook our insides. Our horses at the barn froze and didn't move for several minutes. Ma Nature has the Ultimate Subwoofer System on the planet.

Have a good night all.

... walk right in, it´s around the back, half a mile away from the railroad track - yeah, I rember that song from Arlo Guthrie - good old times!

Good Morning Folks,

here is an update on what is going on on this side of the Big Pond. My Doc is still very unhappy with me - the old pump´s performance is lower than 40 %, that´s why I get tired so quickly. Applied for social security payments - fortunately, that is a bit better than in the States. You can live off that, but there is no room for anything extra, even a newspaper is out of question. We will have to leave our house, which has been home to us for nearly 20 years. Our new "domicile" will be a 1 bedroom apartment, little kitchen, little living room and a bath - not more than 600 sq. feet in total. We are coming down from over 2,000 sq. feet...Sad

My wife is currently attending a training on how to apply for a job - she is out of work for over 20 years now. Next will be a PC training, as she has no IT skills at all. That will be followed by training to acquire the license to drive a forklift truck - can anyone tell me what a lady of 50+ years will do with a license like that? But that´s the routine...Sad

I still have dreams - like having a little cottage overlooking a lake, somewhere in Nova Scotia, British Columbia or Washington State, not too many people around, only nice neighbours, go hunting, fishing, open fire place - the dream of a rustic and basic life!

Zoe, I take hust a cup of your decaffe, and a roll.

The real kicker to all this is that this thing is done we need to install this on Eric's layout---as it was his idea in the first place!! Smile,Wink, & Grin We're considering doing a running thread on this thing as we're going to need at least 4 or 5 jigs just for the bents ----then the deck---thank goodness there is only one small curve at one endWhistling----BTW---Eric wanted to know what the tallest MR trestle is anyways----I told him this oneWhistling

BTW---BridgeTomBowBow---how did this 'tradition' of passing the bridge term come about?ConfusedWhistling

We are currently 17C with humidity at 98%. And dull and showery. Yay. Supposed to get up to 27C today and go down to 12C tonight. There is/was a 30% chance of showers and a risk of a t'underboomer today as well. As it is showering we'll just say we are getting 100% rain ag'inGrumpy

Today I'll be starting to get the measurements laid out as to just how the trestle is going to fit in the space alloted---then we'll start the jig buildingMischief ---heeheehee---cackling away to himself

 Good morning.

I went in last night to show the boss my wrist, and he sent me home.  Told me to take care of it, and call him around 6:00pm.   He said if its not better, to take another night off.  He was understanding.  He could even see my arm was "raised" where the pain was coming from.

Thats all I can do.  Ice, and rest.  It sucks!!!!  I can't do anything I want to do.  I had a hard time just brushing my teeth Grumpy

So...........I guess the plan is to lay around and ice up.

Chris......The wife is doing good.  She's more upset with her job, than anything else right now.  So I guess shes back to normal Mischief.

 Good morning.

It's 76 and partly cloudy. The high will be around the mid 90's and there's a chance of rain. That's starting to sound like a cracked record.

Spent some time yesterday working on the buildings. The interiors of the Seymour Block building, Skip's Chicken and Ribs and the Schultz's Garage have been blacked out, some chalk dust added here and there and the exteriors have been sprayed down with Matte Finish. Maybe today I'll get started on the "Robert's Dry Goods" kit. I also have to look at getting started on taking down the old backdrop. Not something I'm really looking forward to but it has to be done.

I spent the evening playing my guitar and redying the leather on my bike.  The black was getting pretty sun faded.  And as for jammin', the wife was out and about, so I cranked it up and had a ball!

Current Conditions
Indianapolis, Indiana
Currently: 63°F Mostly Cloudy
Wind: North-Northwest at 7 MPH
Humidity: 88%
Dewpoint: 59°F
Barometer: 30.06 inches
Sunrise: 6:53 am
Sunset: 8:44 pm

Today: mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 80s. North winds 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight: mostly clear. Lows in the lower 60s. Northeast winds up to 5 mph.

TODAY: After some scattered storms in the late afternoon and evening hours yesterday, cooler, and drier air has arrived.  An area of high pressure to our NW will bring cool NE winds today, which will turn off the humid, warm air from the Gulf of Mexico.  Highs should hit the low 80’s.

Well, last evening I slapped some burgers on the grill.  Man those were good!  And tonight....STEAK!  Gotta swing past the store for some mushrooms to go with it.  That ought to be good.

Oh, there's the work thing calling, gotta go!

Prayers for all in need!

Later!

Mornin' everyone!

Chloe I'll have one of those Raisin Bran muffins you've got on the counter with a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug, please and thanks.

Looks to be a fairly nice day here in the Finger Lakes today.  Currently 72°F with a high around 77°F later this afternoon under partly cloudy skies.  Possible rain shower or thundershower as well.

Philip, sounds like you had a good evening with the bike and the ax.  Careful crankin' the old amp though.  You don't want to end up saying, "huh?" all the time like I do.  I am amazed at how irritated people get with people who are deaf.  The same people would go out of their way if they were around someone who was wheelchair bound, blind, or had some other disability, but ask them to say something again and you get rolling eyes, deep breaths and "the look".

This morning I get to go to the eye Doc.  That means that most of today I won't be able to get anything done.  I doubt I'll need new glasses as these still work fine for close work.  I only need reading glasses.

Mornin, coffee please.

Another day of not much going on.

Chris- It's not the card that really gets me, in fact it sounds stronger than I actually feel about it. It's the commercialization of the events and the expectation of, well..., something. Or the feeling of a requirement to do get something. I don't know how to put it. If someone has a birthday, I feel that a hearty happy birthday is sufficient. It is an event in a persons life, but hardly monumental. So a Happy birthday should do. Especially if you have a party. And super duper especially if I gave a gift. If for some reason I was not able to see, or speak to you, then a card would be in order. But, and I mean no offence to anyone, not to everyone you know. Same rules go for deaths and attending funerals/visitations. I have expressed my sympathy is a card really necessary? For me I find the actual attendance is much much more meaningful because the person is usually showing up with not knowing really what say (edit) to family members and are many times putting themselves in an uncomfortable spot to pay their respects. I guess they could go through the line and hand a person a card and not have to say anything. And baby showers..... Don't get me started on baby showersGrumpy

Barry- I too am anxious to see some photos of this tiny monster. Progress picts would be acceptable alsoBig Smile. Then you can show us EXACTLY the point you started pulling out your hair.Laugh

Nik- Oh my no, remember how hard it was to come up with a loco? Just look at that poor thing. A steam powered articulated Alco SD35 E-7 Berkshire. Weird looking. Can you imagine the type of song we'd have? I think Tom would even throw up his hands and say...."I can't play this!"

Ulrich- Sorry to hear. Keep up the spirits, times will get better. Remember you started on the ground floor before and you have already proved you could climb. You did it once, you can do it again. Angel

Jeff- building looks good. What did you say it was going to be? Do I see wires for lighting?

Phones ain't gettin fixed today in Indy, what with PC thinking steak and mushrooms.

You do indeed see wires. Most of the windows in the building will have blinds while others will show some printed interiors.

Huh? Big Smile

Afternoon folks!

Flo I'll have a bacon cheesburger with gravy covered fies and a Dr. Pepper please.  I'll go sit at the Rivet Counter with the others.

Spent a little over a hour and a half at the eye doctor's office.  Good news is that my close vision is the same as it was 3 years ago.  Bad news is that I have lost some of the distance vision, but not enough to worry about correcting yet.  He said he could improve it but it would only a very slight fix and that I can see pretty much well enough without any correction.  So I can keep on just using the reading glasses for now.  He also said I have some common condition that is basically dandruff of the eyelashes....  I have psoriasis on my face  so it is probably related.  Gave me some medicated wipes to help and recomended some OTC drops to help with seasonal allergy eyes.

He is also surprised with the depth of vision I get from the reading glasses.  I have about twice the usual depth perception as normal.  He thinks it is because I have small pupils......  Guess there is an advantage to having little beady eyes.... (snicker, snicker......Whistling)

As soon as the blasted eyedrops wear off, I will be down cellar seeing if the dryer is fixable and hopefully spending some quality time on the layout.

Robby, hope your wrist is recovering and that it won't continue to give you problems.  Also glad you have an understanding boss.

Afternoon folks!

I'll have the Chicken Fajitas for lunch today, thanks Chloe! Dinner

Ben has baseball tryouts tonight for Fall ball!

Wow!!For those of you who were following the progress on my dad with his prostate cancer, well we have some great news! Got a call from mom last night and his PSA test came back with a reading of 0.2 which is a miracle considering it was originally around 6.9 before the treatments. The doctor says that he is fairly cleared of any trace of the cancer now and the treatments were a success. His is now on visits every 3 months for the next year just to monitor his PSA levels. I want to thank all of you who had Joseph on their prayer lists. The power of prayer does work and you all proved it once again. Bow Thumbs Up

Ray, the recipe for the Southwest Chicken Salad is quite easy to make. For each portion you will want to grill 6 ounces of chicken *** (white meat - since forum code will kick out the real term - Todd has the Lancelot de-coder Laugh ) (The Password is b r e a s t) which has been seasoned with the BBQ rub spice. Once grilled allow the chicken white meat (b r e a s t) to rest 5 minutes before slicing. Have about 2 cups of chopped romaine lettuce for each salad portion on the plate, place the chicken slices on each bed of lettuce, then top each portion of salad with 1/4 cup of canned whole kernal corn, 1/4 cup of canned black beans (rinsed and drained), and 1/4 cup of diced tomatoes or your favorite salsa. If you like shredded cheese you can also sprinkle about 1/4 cup of the taco cheese mix over the top. If you like avocado, you can slice up 1/2 of that and add to the top too. Also, fresh chopped cilantro on top too is a perfect way to garnish the top of the salad.

Oh and Ray, I like the prototype line pole, just goes to show you that there is a prototype for just about everything!

Robby, love the WL&E loco! Thumbs Up So is this a workmans comp case since you got injured on the job?

Todd, Popeye's again huh! Love that chicken.....Hey, my dad served on the Grand Jury in New Orleans many years ago, boy the stories he could tell! Blindfold But he was sworn to secrecy....

So Dick, yet another useful use for the ole WD40 eh! Nice thing about grandchildren, you can spoil them and then they get to go home. That what I hear at least....

Wow Ed, nice pics from the new home area! Thanks for sharing! Love the bridge and the elevated view of the curve and the tunnel....Thumbs Up

Barry, 6.5' in N, now that is impressive! I'm with Tom, photos are a must have right?

Hey Chris, whenever you want I can ship out orders just about any day! Sundays, holidays and model railroading days are out!

Rob, so.....ah........how is your special "green" project coming along! Whistling Hey, we had storms rumble through last night too, but only thunder and lighting, not one drop of rain! Confused

Flashwave, been there and done that too many times. Good idea to put long posts in Notepad or any text editor and save often to omit the IE or web browser issues.

Jeffery, the buildings are progressing. Might have to elect a mayor of the town soon! Tongue

PC, cooking steak with mushrooms, yummy! Dinner So....what time is dinner going to be ready!

Thoughts and prayers for those in need Angel

Its afternoon already? Geezzzz Big Smile.  Looks like more storms are coming.

Ray.........The wrist is getting better, but is still very sore.  I will tell my boss when I call him.  I also hope it won't give me more problems.  I don't wanna get it 75% better, and it gets worse all over again.

Ryan.......I've been wanting that engine since I saw it several months ago.   I finally got it and now the layout is in out of order.

 Jerry....Thanks.  I hope it gets better Smile,Wink, & Grin.

Jeff......I was having trouble this morning, but nothing since.
