One of the structures now has an interior view. This one is a barber shop.

The barbershop interior was emailed to me. I printed it out on my old HP Deskjet scaled at 30% on normal resolution on card stock.

A double Soylent Green Burger on an onion & sesame bun with green fries, please. Dinner

***Ryan, might be awhile before I start work on the Green project. So much else going on these days.

On top of everything else, believe I've got worms, a type of round worms if I had to guess. Start my fast for the blood test tonight. Will insist on getting wormer from the Doc or I will go strait to the store and buy some horse wormer. Will wear a mask while doing my chores from now on.

Have a good one y'all.

Got home from work to find not one, but two big boxes on the front porch.  My long awaited box o'stuff from BLI had arrived.

Initially I was disappointed I didn't get a whole SD40-2 or AC6000, but this would quickly turn around.  I got three BN SD40-2 shells, three F7B ATSF shells, four B&M E7A shells, an intact NYC Hudson, a complete F7A NYC and WM, and an F7B WM.  The shells are all in reasonably good or better shape.  For $38 shipped, I'm glad to have a lot of things to practice weathering without worrying about too much.  And the SD40s and E7s can be sacrificed on the altar of tweaking my freelance paint scheme.

I don't have a DCC system or a layout at all, so I set up the loop of track usually used under the Christmas tree with the old Tech 2 to see if anything came to life.  The Hudson didn't twitch, so I think its dead.  Or something makes it dislike straight DC.  The NYC made a loud hum from 30% to 70% power on the knob.

The WM units both came to glorious discounted life.  The documentation included with them leads me to believe they are not DCC equipped nor sound equipped, which is fine with me right now.  I wonder how and why they found their way into my box if they're working perfectly fine.  But I'm not complaining.  They appear to be suitable for upgrading into DCC equipped as well.

I'm guessing that A-B set probably goes for over $200, so I think I turned a profit.

The NYC Hudson does not have a decoder. At least mine didn't. so I wired up a resistor to the headlight, and attached the wheel contacts on the locomotive to the motor and light, and bundled it up. And to my amazement, it worked! That reminds me, I gotta show you my haul!

My new jewel of the fleet:

The BLI Hudson in the foreground and my Bachmann Northern in the background. When I compared these, it was like stepping out of a Yugo and into a Cadillac.

 Competing forces:

My first F-unit, a F-7A in WM. (Now my brothers and I all have a WM unit, a Alco RS-3, and FA-1, and this.)

Two E-7 Shells in B&M:

And three SD40-2 Shells in the BN Whiteface Scheme

I'll see who comes in.

Good Evening, Chloe, just one of those oatmeal raisin cookies and a glass of milk to dunk it in, please. Had dinner earlier tonight and not a lot of spare room in my tummy....Thanks!

Ray, I'd agree with you about Barry's trestle project (of epic proportions, I'd say!). It was weird that you are having difficulties with your dryer, as today I was talking with another therapist and he's having trouble with his at home. It wasn't heating, and when he felt the wall outlet, one side felt pretty warm; he pulled the plug, changed out the socket and the breaker, checked continuity on the power cable (ok), opened up the dryer and checked there, no sign to indicate what was going on (replaced the element), and still no luck. Maybe you guys have the same brand of dryers? Good to hear your eye doctor's visit went okay. Yeah!!

Barry - two words for your project: "PACE YOURSELF!" Maybe Corey could offer you some suggestions, since he spent a lot of time on his bridge and all. Corey? ...Ah, I see Tom's joining in:

twhite

I gladly relinquish my title of BRIDGE TOM to you.  BowBow   This is a title that you must use with pride and humility (yah, right! Tongue) remembering that it is a Hallowed Title that is only bestowed once in a lifetime on another person who has gone as BLOODY NUTS AS I HAVE!!!!

Treasure it.  Smile,Wink, & Grin

Uff-Dah and Spooky are sitting here in absolute shock.  And like myself, incredible admiration.

We DO get photos, do we not?  Whistling

Uh, yeah, Barry - how soon can we see progress photos (not finished stuff, mind ya, just how the progress is coming along...)? Smile,Wink, & Grin

Todd - I have the directions with my gauge; I guess I need "NMRA Gauges for Dunce" I just don't understand some of the terms, and would love to find a set of pictures showing the gauge being used for each of those (other than the track width or the dock and overhead clearance, which I do understand). Duh.... Oh, I do understand that thing about semi's and trailer rigs - for one of those to look right on a curved or corner of a road, it's gonna take way too much space for the road (which could be better used by the RR and/or figures and autos or pickup trucks). Compression, compression, indeed! Hey, on the 'card' topic, I'd agree with you that things can get commercialized, but I just buy cards when it's someone's birthday, Christmas, or *I* feel moved to surprise someone with the card (or e-card). Maybe it's 'cause I like good artwork and a well-said phrase on the cards (past art major and almost an English major here, so ya gotta make allowances for me) Wink As for the baby showers, I think the ladies get more into those than most guys do, isn't that right, Chloe? [WHACK!!!] Blindfold Ouch! Chloe, I meant that as a compliment - the ladies are more sensitive about baby showers and such, honest!

Rob, yeah, a 'subwoofer' like that, and I'd be heading back inside to change something...Oops Your poor critters are probably gonna be quaking in their hooves until tomorrow!

Aw, c'mon Morgan - what do you *really* think of IE and the website? No holding back now...Banged Head Yeah, we've probably all had that 'delightful' experience once or more times. Hopefully, you won't have that again for a bit of a while.

Ulrich, sounds like the (social security) process over on your side of the pond is at least a bit quicker than here. I see people at work with health problems a lot like yours, who have been waiting a year or two, and usually they have to get an attorney or company to help them file an appeal. Here in Missouri, the state limits what the attorney or company can take out of the initial payment (backdated to when the appeal was filed usually, sometimes to the original filing's date) to a specified percentage. So at least the company or attorney doesn't dilly-dally to run up the bill. Will continue to pray for the guy on the cruise line to get in touch with you before things come to the downsizing. I wouldn't look forward to moving 2000 sq. ft of stuff into 600 - even if it was just my stuff and me, let alone both of you and your belongings! AngelAngel Keep that cottage in Nova Scotia in mind and in your dreams. Thumbs Up

Robby, good to hear your boss understands that you need to rest up that hand for you to get back to productive again. At least you could read your MR issue or a MRR'ing book, right? Just use the other hand to turn pages... Good to hear your wife's feeling better enough to be a little cranky. I think that's a good sign, right?

Ryan - good to hear the news on your Dad. Thumbs Up I had forgot his first name, but I guess the Big Healer knew it okay... Yeah!!

Jeff, the building's coming along fine now - I like that interior for the barber shop! Bow I'll have to start some on my backdrop soon, maybe this weekend. Have borrowed the cloud stencils from another MRR club member, so will need to get them back before too long (at least by Christmas...Whistling)

Nik.n, NittanyLion - I'll agree - excellent bargains! And they look great (and you have some working ones, to boot!

I got groceries tonight after I got home from work. Wasn't a lot, but still came up a bit bigger total than I thought - probably was the meat and some DiGiorno flatbread thingees that kicked the total up. But I should be set until next payday fine. Got several chicken ****'s and a few small steaks ('bout the size of my fist - I don't really need one of those 'pound or two' ones!). Some salad mix, jar of pb (creamy) and some yogurt and lunchmeat (variety is nice for lunch, too!).

Last night I ordered a package of Walthers' brick sheets from their bargain bin, and also had 'em add in some Rix turnout switch stands (3). Details, details, eh?

I'm gonna call it a night for now. Prayers continue, and now I'm including some for Barry's general sanity (as he slaves away at the drawing pad, muttering under his breath), as well as for healing and a good rest of the week for all you Diners.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

I had a lawyer handling mine for over a year. I got tired of waiting and took the case away from him and took it to the Social Security office myself and had things going in under two weeks. They hadn't even heard from the lawyer. He was holding out for all he could get. Talk about one ticked off Indian! That was me. Minus the war paint though. I didn't want to cause a panic.

Good evening floks! Summer has finaaly arrived - we have had 2 days straight without rain, and there is none in the forecast (so far) until next Wednesday! To celebrate both Kris and I were able to get some yard work done, and I progressed my house foundation project some more as well. Not much mrr lately as the Museum and Heritage Society have taken my time. ( and their camera, which is now being used for its intended purpose!Pirate) Tomorrow is a waste as well - helping at a church lunch thing for the Seaside Festival late morning and through the afternoon; then Friday/Sat/Sun is Kris' Arts Association show at the aforementioned Festival. Guess who's detailed to help there as well...WhistlingSigh

Jeff: I got the Sign - Oops notice when I tried enlarging a photo having read your comment. That was this afternoon, haven't tried recently. That interior sure makes a diiference; can't wait to see the finished project Thumbs Up

CapeJim: Do I have any Roadrunners on the layout?...I've some pidgeons that are waiting to morph into seagullsWink...and this, if you'll accept a Rail-Runner, sorta...  It's still got its Rapidos, and I don't have the MicroTrains conversion kit, so that's going to have to wait as well.Sad

Barry?: What size microscope do I use? Handy Dandy Local $ Store Electron Scanning Reading Glasses   Clown  That trestle project has my total respect!Bow  I've only built two in HO, and my N "doorway crosser" is deliberatly a stone viaduct about 1/2 the length of your trestle.

Ryan: That's really good news about your Dad. I've updated our Churches' Prayer Chain with the news.  Thanks for the kind words on the gates. I think I'm going to redesign the front wheel arrangement. I made them in-line as I wanted something that would be sure to clear the tracks, but I think regular two axel trucks should do just as well, and be more prototypical. (The of course I built the second gate the same as the first, forgetting that I had done the first the way I did because it was the rail access  gate, and the second is a road access gate not needing special consideration in that regard.

Ulrich: That's hard to take! A real test of your sense of self-worth (Is a person who they are because of who they are, or because of what they own? Question)  Who knows, it could be your wife will really get off on driving that forklift, stranger things have happened!  Hold on to the  dream...those lakeshore properties in Nova Scotia will still be there! In the mean time we continue to pray for your health and prosperity.Angel

Todd: On the compression thing and semi trailers fititng around curves, here's a more or less permament placement of a rig...it covers over the gap between the main layout and one end of my removable window module. That's a tight bend in the road, but it's all the space I had!

I'll take a bowl of vanilla ice-cream and this season's blackcurrants over to the RC before heading to bed. I'll try not to trip over that dog on the way out. BTW, I think we at last have a pic of Janie...I can't disclose my sources, or Vinnie will be on their case!

Goodnight all,and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel

Ryan... I hope Ben's tryout went well. Tell him "Hi!".......... That is fantastic news about your Dad.

Ulrich....... Forklift lessons for your wife???? .... Those strudels must be huge! ....... Seriously, we are your friends, and we are glad you are in the diner. You need to get the doctors to treat your heart condition. That less than 40% number is not good.

Robby ...I hope that wrist is OK soon!

Rob ... I like your humor. I'm really gals the lightning did not hit the new house. It would be bad for the train layout.

Jeff ...... You are making great progress with those buildings!

Have a nice evening.

I still get the Oops! message.

You are.....not alone. Just clicked on Nicks box-o-stuff and got the oops message, although not the same one I used to get back when it was a plague. I didn't click on your Barbershop picture earlier because it was large enough for me to see clearly without enlargeing. Didn't try anything because the computer has been cookie cleaned and rebooted already to get rid of the ghosty thing.

Good evening , cloudy, humid with an east wind all day here. Looks like tomorrow will be the same, sun returns Friday. Today I spent most of the day constructing benchwork. no, not for MRR, but for my wife's little Halloween display.  Good practice for MRR'g though.

RAY: Yes, this little guy is a real joy to have around, he loves to be doing and helping me with anything that I do, and he is pretty good for a 3 year old too.

JIM: I had to check the water today to make sure the wife and DIL weren't pulling my leg, but sure enough, the temp was 82F in the pool. If we have Indian Summer, we may be in the pool in October, who knows!

ED: That is too bad, passenger service from your area would be nice. That is one high bridge, I hope they never have a bad earthquake when a train is passing over. !! Save some oranges for us.

GARRY: The GS will definitely be working with me on MRR, he loves trains.

Time for bed, I am plumb tuckered out,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Evenin' Oatmeal cookie and milk please. Sounded good, oh wait make it a molasses cookie.

Nik and nittany- great hauls.

Jim- Oh I get ya. I take it you don't subscribe to MRR and get the extra stuff on the web site. Andy Sperandeo did a video on how to use one. I didn't realize what all one could do, that's why I got one myself. I'll see what I can do in the next few days. Tomorrow is busy busy. Gootta take care of moms groceries and lunch date. Then some stuff for her then blast home for Brenda and I to go to the State Fair opening parade. Friday day may prove likely and I have to work at 4:00. Oh I don't reeeeally have that much against cards. I just don't see the need for them as much as others. To each there own, just like Mring

Got called in to work tonight because they got hammered so like Dick I'm a bit tuckered. So off to bed.

OH! I almost forgot, the re arranging of Gold Creek is just about done. At least as far as where he buildings are going to go. There was minimal change but it took some standing and staring to get it to this point. Thinking compression and reminding myself that no one is really having to make a semi take the corner or actually back into an area is a hard thing for me to keep in mind, but using those thoughts actually makes the place look better than when I would give more room. I like. I'll try to get some pictures on the wall before I get the roads and the landscaping done.

I'm starting to type some weird words so,

 Angel Zzz

Ulrich: You think the kitchen in your apartment is small? You haven't seen a small kitchen until you've seen mine. It has just enough room for me to stand in. I turn to the right - there's the sink. I turn to the left - there's the fridge beside a 20" opening to the hall to the back of the trailer. Directly in front of me is the microwave oven with an electric skillet on top of it. In front of the microwave is a strip of counter space 18" wide x 6" deep. Up above are the cabinets. Barely 9 feet of storage space. There's 4 small drawers beneath the section the microwave is on and there's a small door under the sink where a 10 gallon water heater is located. That my friend is a tiny kitchen. Yours will be spacious by comparison.

 Good morning.

It's 73 and sunny. The high will be 93 and it will be partly cloudy.

Worked on one of the structures yesterday. I put printed images of window shades and curtains in the upstairs windows and put a photo interior shot of a barbershop in the front and put a light inside so the interior photo is backlit. I also started putting some photo interiors in the Seymour Block. Not sure what will be on the schedule today so I'll take it as it comes.

BYW, does the barber shop have a generator that needs a whole tanker full of oil to run? Clown  That backlighting is a terrific effect. Are you putting "painted" signs on the windows?

Off to that lunch thing in a few minutes. Have a wonderful day folks.

Good morning.  Its very foogy out right now.   I also believe the high will be about 83.

Well my wrist is about 50 - 50.  I will ice it some more and hope to go in tonight.  I did by a wrist support.  Kinda looks like a bowling one.  That really helps.  Now maybe I can do a bit more, rather than sit all day.

Jim.....yeah I think shes getting back to normal.  I normally hide in the basement, but my wirst stops me from that.  That means.......I have to listen to what shes saying.

Jeff.....The building came out nice.  The light really sets it off.

I also see a few of us got some new train stuff.  Thats always a good thing Thumbs Up.

Well I guess I better get off of here.  I will pop back in later.

Good Mornin'. High today is only supposed to be 85F, sunny skies and a 0% chance of precip. Currently a bit nippy at 63F.

Not much RR time today. I've got to do mom's grocery shopping and then go with her to lunch, she looks forward to that, then get home. Tomorrow The Illinois State Fair in Springfield starts so tonight is the opening parade to which I must attend.

Now I don't have any problems with parades but, This one is turning into just a bunch of walkers for politicians and various groups who slap on a T-shirt and walk down the street in a group. However, the perfect wife seems to think life will not go on as we know it if we don't go to the fair parade. We must go into the fairgrounds to watch this thing so we can partake in fair food, for which my wallet is crying already. I wonder how much for a drink this year $7 ???

Have a Great Day!

Good Morning, Zoe - how about a bowl of Raisin Bran (I like the raisins, thanks), some wheat toast with blackberry jam, glass of Ed's OJ and a Santa Fe mug of coffee, please. Thank you!

TMarsh
Jim- Oh I get ya. I take it you don't subscribe to MRR and get the extra stuff on the web site. Andy Sperandeo did a video on how to use one. I didn't realize what all one could do, that's why I got one myself.

Actually, Todd, I am a subscriber to MR, but the videos are only viewable online, and my connection is strictly at the local restaurant WiFi's. If they had something with still pics I could print out and take home, that would work, but the videos I can't take home...Sigh That's why I mentioned some article with stills. Now if Charter ever comes up with a decently priced (as in, NOT overpriced, ahem...) broadband coverage, or if AT&T actually gets some real customer service, I could then (and only then) see about signing up with one of them (they're mostly our two providers in this area of out-state Missouri). [/rant off] Hey, on your dilemma with the trucks, I have one spot on my current layout where the trailer is backed to the dock at the freight station, but the tractor is turned 45-60 degress (and I'm not gonna try to show or explain how that driver got the rig backed into its spot...)Wink

DerJohn, not sure that a Rail Runner was what I was thinking of, but at least it's a MoPac one! Thumbs Up And hey, you or CN Charlie might want to explain the meaning of 'nippy' to Todd there, who thinks 63 F (17 C) is 'nippy' - doesn't he live up in Northern Illinois? Send him up NOTB in about four or five months... Smile,Wink, & Grin

Jeff, that light sets off the window really well. Yeah!!

Oh, I did notice that the national weatherfolks were mentioning the Iowa (Hey, Chris!) and Missouri state fairs starting today. But I'm thinking from what you said (Todd) that the Illinois one is going on, right? [Edit] Oops, re-read your post, Todd, and I saw that it starts tomorrow. Well, enjoy the parade (as much as is possible (and the food), anyway). Smile

I'll just grab a seat at the front booth and watch the morning local a while until some of the rest of the bunch arrive. Prayers will continue, natch.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good morning folks.

I'm just killing time, waiting for the wife to get up so we can go up north. I slept like crud last night so I'm up and ready to go. I figured I would rather drink coffee and get caught up on the forums instead of laying in bed. I'm ready to go cruise on the new pontoon all day.

I had put in an order for summer weather for our weekend. With how cold it had been lately, I didn't think it was going to happen. Well, 89 and sunny should do just fine! It is staying warm until Saturday night, then back to fall like temperatures on Monday. Perfect! What am I doing sitting at a computer desk? Being unemployed, my wife sure has gotten into this sleeping in thing! She's not depressed or anything, just lazy!Smile

Morning folks!

I'll have the Hershel's Breakfast (two eggs sunny side up, fried pork chop, hash browns, biscuits with saw mill gravy, and cinnamon fried apples, thanks Chloe! And some of Ed's last remaining OJ....and a cup a Joe! Dinner

Due to the impending rain storm that ran through late yesterday afternoon the baseball tryouts for Ben were postponed to Friday evening.

Jeffery, love the barber shop interior and lighting! Thumbs Up

Todd, thanks man! Popeye's illicit activities are unknown in these parts...what do you speak of? Confused

Rob, sorry about the worms, hope that clears up soon!

Jim, thank you much! And speaking of groceries, going to the store tonight to pick up some ourselves!

Der John, thank you for keeping him on the prayer list all this time, I am sure he appreciates every one of them over the past months. Now I see we finally got a picture of Janie, I hope her eye gets better soon! Laugh I like those NS locos at the bottom of your post too!

Garry, thanks, and I'll let Ben know too!

Robby, glad to hear the wrist is getting better.

You all have a good one!

JIm- Mr Computer ignorant here. I only know as much about these things as I have had to deal with. I guess on a WiFi connection it's not like a wireless internet connection in that you don't get all the things a normal connection through an IP gets? Hmm, I just assumed....well anyway I understand your sitch now,( that's how the really hip people say situationBig Smile). I'll send some photos of the gage in action to you in PM, or maybe I should send it a couple at a time hear to be sure I got it right. Pretty simple once you see the thing being used.Thumbs Up

For what it's worth, while I was sitting here watching the local, I got an idea and tried copying the link from some of the pics you all mentioned having problems with (like Ray's), opening a new tab and pasting it in, and looking at the link. The photobucket ones (Ray's) had width and height dimensions at the end of the link, so I cut those off the end, and cut off the front part so it only directly gave the photobucket part (

From this (original link):

http://cs.trains.com/trccs/themes/trc/common/viewimage.aspx?img=http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h259/slow_rr/SLOW_RR_II/TownofHopewell1w.jpg&w=900&h=600

to this (modified):

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h259/slow_rr/SLOW_RR_II/TownofHopewell1w.jpg

and the image loaded fine. Not sure if the problem is a change in the forum software's way of processing the links, or if it's on Photobucket's end. I did try the photobucket part *with* the width and height part left on, and that didn't work, so it might be them too/instead...

For what it's worth....My 2 cents

Okay, back to breakfast with the local...

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau
