Good Evening Gang: It has been raining most of the day. Right now it's stopped, but it is supposed to start again later and be even harder tomorrow.

We are located about 10 miles west of Ft Worth and 7 miles east of Weatherford. yes it's getting to be like the suburbs around here. The fires lately have been in the panhandle about 300 miles northwest of here. earlyer there were fires here in Parker county east and west of us. So far we've been lucky. Right now were safe for awhile but I'm not going to let down our guard.

I haven't heard from Greg lately. I don't know where he is located so don't know if there have been any fires near him. I think I'll try and E-mail him tonight and see if I can get an answere.

John and I went out to Clark Gardens for the train show. It was pretty good concidering the weather. I ran into a young man that had worked for me at Six Flags. He left to get a job with a short line as a brakeman conductor. His goal was to be an engineer. he got to be an engineer and eventually went to work for the UP in Ft Worth's Centenial yard running a yard job. He said that he hasn't put anything on the ground so I guess things are going well. He seems to be very happy with his job. Anyway he's into G scale very big. He has a D&RGW passenger train. Three unit PAs and about 8 cars. Boy does it look good.

Well I'm going to hit the sack. Good Night All

Luc: I realized the other day that I have to build a couple of interlocking towers. I’m grateful for the shots of yours
Gives me inspiration, and a clue as to what they look like.[:D] [tup]
I did have one on the A&W in Alberta, but that’s ages ago now, and in HO rather than N. I’ll need the first if I carry on and do scenery work on that upper yard.
I’ve quite a bit of foam to cover there. I used ash for the lower yard, and that didn’t work as well as I had hoped. What do you folks use for your yards? The main line and lead can be regular ballast, but for the yard and it’s surroundings, what would you suggest?

TexasJohn: [#welcome] (Assuming that Texas is home, and the Alaska thing is a temporary posting, but longer than the Mid-East.) Glad to have you drop by. As you may have noticed, several of the chaps in here get to see trains on more or less a daily basis, and post their pics. That’s as close as many of the rest of us come, so join the gang of RRcybervoyuers and enjoy the good fortune of those who can be our eyes![(-D]

Paul: Interesting to hear about the ex-employee/co-worker’s G layout. How much ground would that cover?

Must get off to bed. Goodnight all, and our prayers for all in need of healing or comfort. God Bless.[angel]

mine does that too- now you know what I put up with everytime I run it.

inch, I love the pic. (how could I not love an IC pic?) BTW, I got out my IC roster an there isn't a #1914. I just had to check and see if there was a prototype.

I have a serious problem- I can't stop buying engines when I desperatly need freight cars and buildings- anybody else have this problem? There is a B-B GP50 for $20 at my LHS I'm just itching to buy next time I'm there.

Good Night Vietnam!!!!

Greenberg train show was ok... seemed to be a little on the small side vendor wise and prices were up a little. Did manage to get an Athearn Amtrak F59PHI and an Athearn CNW C44-9 for a grand total of $50.00. I was tempted by some Tower55 ES44AC’s, but the two at the show were in UP colors, and I‘m looking for one in NS or CSX.

Quick Rant: Why does the items that I want most always seem to be available in scales that I’m not modeling? The two main things I’m looking for are an CR SD80Mac, and Septa commuter cars at a reasonable price. So far both I’ve seen in O scale, but not in HO. As well, at least at trains shows the Acela loco’s and coaches seem to always be N scale.

in-store interview last week went ok, will have a third interview near the end of the month in which they will actually hire someone.

Was sick for about a week... something seems to be going around in the area.

Well, that’s all folks.

A quick good evening gents.I trust that everyone more or less survived the onslaught of green spirits and beer on friday. [:O][;)]

UKMatt sounds like a good way to do the articulation on those cars [tup] With that type of car i don't think that an 18" radius would be a bad thing, the articulations should make them track quite nicely.

Luc Nice signs, tell the truth they were up on the wall of your cublcle at your old job weren't they. [:-^]

CapeJim Good to see you stranger [tup] I see that you missed Zoe and Chloe's memo on all request for tabs or late paymenst needing to be forwarded through the "business manager " Vinnie Cementshoes ESQ. [:O][xx(]

Have a good one everyone.

Did you ever think maybe its a hint to you to start modeling in O gauge. not ho scale. [:D][:P] LOL

Well if I ever get my layout (perniment type) going I'll start posting right now I have a siding on the floor thats about 5'X8' on the curvers I put a section of stright inbetween each curve to make it wider and not as sharp as I'm only using O-31 curves. plan on seeing how many cars I can put on before running out of track or power with one engine later today or if it tends to pull cars off around the curves LOL.

Well guys when the putor died I lost about 3/4 of all the pics I had never did get them all put over to my account at photo bucket so I guess will have to start over I still have around 100 at photo bucket but not near what I had.

Well janie glad to see you in here this am I'll have the turkey sausage with a couple of biscuits and some O.J. Thank - you.

Take care all till we talk again

Well I decided to take the day off and sleep in. Finally got up at 7:30! coffee's on and I'm planning my day around the fact I'm putting my feet up.

I see some new faces so [#welcome]

The railway has been on hold the last few days so I may get at it for an hour or two today.

The Draftsman was out at the house Friday looking at the place and should get back to me with preliminaries before long.

Well that's my exciting life for today

Later all

lerned my lesson with my last putor so I know have 2 putors with (iknow not much in todays world but good enough for what I want . ) 400 mghz prosseors and 528 megs of ram so for $50.00 (my bos decied scince I had to put operating system on them and modems in them $25.00 each. I'm going to put what ever on both so if one goes down the other will have it so if its something I want or need to keep its going to be on both and I'm going to learn to back up so I need to get some disk for the cd burners. I'm going to see if some one can take my old disk and clean it some how without losing everything on it I does have a virus on it I found out setting up these new computors I un hooked the hard drive in one and tried hooking up my old one and it wouldn't let it run something about there is sometype of virus on it.

Well about to go out with the CFO so will talk to you All later.

Cream in the coffee this morning please Zoë, so that will be a JR regular. Since RT is so kindly picking up this tab, I’ll have an oatmeal-rasin muffin, warmed, with butter.[:D] Blood sugar normal for after breakfast, so the muffin shouldn’t be a problem.

Ding:

…Hey, it’s your road! What would the $20 for the BB GP50 get you in rolling stock at that LHS? One or two cars? Maybe a building? When you finally feel the need for the cars and buildings, Ebay will get you the cash for them when you sell off some locos to buy the new stuff.[:D]

Mikey:

…Welcome to the wonderful world of N scale! Things are WAY better than they used to be, but still your symptoms are very familiar! N seems to be very short on anything modern painted for CN.[:(]…and RT, I’m not being tempted into O![:D]

RT: Bad luck on losing the photos. I’ve not done this much, but some of my photos are backed up onto CDs. That’s quite the deal on those 2 computers.[tup]
Hope your experiments with the curves and cars go well. That 31 is a radius?

I may have a go at the interlocking tower today, at least as a mock-up. Or bight the bullet and do some more rock casting over the access hatches. Have to figure exactly how those work, and it’s a design as you go kind of thing, at least the way I do it. [:I]

Hi all

Not a lot happening here, I’ve been trying to deal with an apple tree in the garden that has become covered in ivy and isn’t looking too healthy.

Steve, I can remember having a damp proof course put in when we moved in here, it wasn’t needed but the mortgage people preferred their rules to considering houses case by case. Took about 2 weeks during which we had to move upstairs due to the dust and general devastation, then had to redecorate everything to cover the new plaster.

John, Hornby-Dublo offered an N2 in assorted paint schemes (apart from LNER and BR), the modern Hornby still offer one although it’s the old Airfix model from the ‘70s with an improved chassis. The lengths the LNER went to on the teak finish were amazing – after a while they gave up and just painted new steel stock in brown, which looks surprisingly good.

Jim, the Enigma was a machine used by the Germans to encode and decode messages – the Allies developed assorted early computerish devices to decrypt the information, starting with the Bombe (which used a lot of electromechanical parts) and ending with Colossus, the first programmable computer which appeared just before the war ended. Wikipedia has good pages on both Enigma and ULTRA (the code name for decrypted Enigma messages).

Rob, I won’t be able to get them as close as the prototype but it should look ok, I’m not too fussed about fine detail at this stage but just want to get the basics built. Need to check if I can afford to order the raw materials first though!

Bye for now

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been in lately. Spring Break's been a killer. The firest couple of days we built fence and hung gates, then one day we had a trackhoe come in and laid 100 feet of 30 and 36 inch concrete pipe for a pond overflow channel, then worked some cattle one day, sprayed yards a couple of days, and then Friday mom wanted to go down to the mall at Gainesville TX, and I talked dad into going on into Addison so we could go to Discount Model Trains. Came out of there at noon on Saturday, then came home and babysat my nephew and ended up getting home at 11 last night, and had a baked potato dinner after church today, so this is really the first time this break I've sat down at the computer. Now I've got to do a little homework for college tomorrow (I don't worry about high school anymore, it's just a blow-off now) and feed cattle in the rain and if there's any time left, play with my new train stuff. I got an intermodal train to pull behind either the SD40-2 or the SD24 and some brass and styrene so I can finish up some scratch builds.

Paul: Got your e-mail today, and we had a 5000 acre fire about 10 miles from here. It burned all through Sunday, fired back up Monday morning, they hot-spotted all day Tuesday, it fired back up again Wednesday, and I think they got it mostly out on Thursday. Over 40 departments responded, so there were at least a hundred fire trucks, mostly brush pumpers except some of these rural departments who have the big ol' 6x6's (we have two) with brush pumps and some have front spray booms. They had airplane tankers Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and a Blackhawk on Monday and two on Wednesday and one on Thursday. Calumet, El Reno, Geary, Hinton, Cedar Lake, and Lookeba (all volunteer except El Reno) were out there every day working 24 hour or longer shifts with all of their trucks (except rescues and pumpers) on the fires. El Reno command finally sent Cedar Lake and Calumet home for 8 hours one day when they got some back-up from the Oklahoma City area departments. I was mad though, because Oklahoma City themselves never mutual aid with anyone, but always want help when things get bad there.

See y'all later,
Greg

Chuck and Kathy: Come on over to this booth and have a cuppa! I'm waiting for plaster to set up some so I can pour it into a foil mold and put it on the side of an access hatch. After all, what else would I be doing?[(-D]
Greg: Glad to hear you are OK. Folks were getting concerned. chuck and Kathy must have left while I was watching my fingers hunt and peck the keys.[sigh]

Hey RT, I was all over the area that you lived in when you your in Memphis. Memphis has changed..... terribly. Not a safe place to be in certain places. Of couse, the same can be said for most large cities these days. There isn't a hobby store on Popular anymore..... at least I didn't find one listed. There is a good hobby store out at Millington, but not sure if they handle train stuff. I will search that out on another day.

Yeah, Cox. Going back to work stinks. I know that no one has lifted a finger at doing things that need to have been done while I was out..... I will have a mess when I return tomorrow morning. Just checked my work email and I have three pieces of computer graphics waiting for me to build that will air in our early show at 5:30am..... so here we go..... :-) 30 years of television...... 28 years of early morning television...... I'm about ready to retire from it. Just wish I had the funds to retire... :-)

Ya'll have a great Sunday (what's left) and I'll check in during the week.

Hi Gang: I'm getting in early tonight. Well it's raining pretty good now. I'm trying to wait to see if it lets up some before I go out to feed. We are still in a drought, but this being Texas there is considerable flooding in Ft. Worth and Dallas. At least we won't have to worry about fires for a while. Good to hear that you got to go to the hobby shop. Would you call that your LHS? If you are going to get down toward Weatherford Tex. or Ft. Worth be sure and let me know and I'll try and meet with you and you folks somewhere. If you can make it to our place we'ed like that too.

Greg: It sounds like you had a normal vacation for a rancher. We were alittle worried about you guys and the fires. It sounds like you dodged the bullet like we did. Fires all around but not too close.

I just tried to copy this and move it to word but it didn't. Rats.

Mikey: There is a model railroading Murphy"s law that says " If the item that you are dying for is found it will be in the wrong scale."

Well I guess it isn't going to let up so I'd better get going before it gets dark.

Hey Paul,

I guess the Hobby Store on Sycamore View is probably my closest true train hobby store. About a 2 hour drive. That stinks, but I guess we all depend on the internet these days to find our goodies..... but it would be nice to have a store in town to visit, buy from and cuddle their merchandise. :-)

Gone to hit the sack, Zoe, no java for me tonight, but have a pot ready about 3am and I'll have some ! Good night folks !

Fergie: Thanks for those CN pics. As you say, not the most recent in the stable! This shot, reminded me of our trip to the Shearwater Aviation museum with the grandkids last Thursday. That line runs right by, but I don’t recall the S curve.[%-)]

I was successful with the first 3 aluminum foil casts, but mixed the plaster wrong for the 4th. So that had to come out, and its replacement is setting while I type. I hadn’t reckoned on the weight of all this added plaster. Those hatches are going to be quite hefty. I may have to re-think my technique a bit. Still, it’s interesting to see what can be done to hide the edges of the hatch. Could have done more this evening, but we had several hours of TV programs taped while the grandkids were here, and we caught up.[:D]

Oh yes! So true. With that Murphy weighing down the team, you’ve got to wonder how the Irish stay so popular![(-D]

I’m off to check on that latest casting, and then to bed. Goodnight all, and God Bless.[angel]
