FYI,

If you're out and about this morning, Starbucks is giving away a 12 oz.cup of joe between 10 and 12 today..

http://tinyurl.com/maemk

my first post to the coffeeshop and i bring free coffee... :-)

i spent a couple hours last night hand-painting track. it's amazing how much better the oversized Atlas code 100 looks when it's not black...

Good morning.... is that Starbucks nationwide doing that? Might have to check it out.

Beautiful day here, got a photo shoot scheduled and looking forward to it. My daughter's senior photos.... and I'm shooting them. My other hobby, maybe soon to be second income is that I'm a semi-pro photographer. Mainly dealt with TV stuff for 30 years but always loved and had still photography as a hobby. She asked me to shoot them, so that's a vote of confidence right there. :-)

Ya'll have a great day and enjoy life !

Hi Gang: It's lunch time at work. Two corny dogs and a diet coke. Oh well tomorrow is the start of a 4 day week end. The train show at Clark Gardens is Saturday and Sunday so we'll spend Thursday and Friday getting loaded and hauling our stuff out there and setting up. If anyone is within driving distance of Mineral Wells it would be well worth the trip to come and see the gardens and the G layout plus the visiting G stuff and our BIG trains.

JR: That method of doing the foam sunds interesting. How did he control the mess or did he?

***: I see that the clock says your oddessy should be over with. Fill us in on the results when you can.

I'm going to head out and drop in on the Garden Railways forum. They might be interested in the doings at Clark Gardens.

Good afternoon gents.........as PAUL noted earlier, yes, my "odessey" is over, and I can truthfully say that the worst part BY FAR, was trying to drink 4 litres of what tasted like "salt water", by the 8 oz glass, every 10 minutes until gone. I only could do 2 litres, that did the job, and from the looks of channel 3 on the doctors monitor over my head, the tubes got cleaned out well enough. And, no problems at all, no polyps. And no more Colonoscophies for 10 years!!!! Good God , I'll be 77 by then, Fergie will be 55, tsk, tsk. The DR said , no drinking any type of alcohol for 24 hours, and heavy, or strenuous work for 3 days.....I can deal with that...Train Room ...here I come.....Hey Hon, can you take the trash out.....Doctor's orders...he he he LOL

DEKRUIF, DINGOIX Hey, the breakfast they gave me afterwards was worth the wait, I was so hungry that I could have taken a bite out of the nurses arm!! LOL

Hi all

I've been doing some mock-ups for a possible future project involving a couple of Hornby LNER Teak coaches (the older ones rather than the latest superdetailed examples). This was inspired by the pre-war Hornby-Dublo articulated sets.

Assembling the image was interesting - I used a flatbed scanner to get the coach images then melded them together using Corel Photopaint. Given it worked rather well I'm seriously considering building one - the coaches can be had for £10 each split from start sets at the moment...

RT, now you have the fun part of dismantling the old PC for spares - I've taken to treating the PCs like MRR equipment, nothing gets thrown away and old parts are put aside for reuse. I'm doing my bit to reduce waste electrical kit by reusing it rather than landfilling or recycling, at least, that's my excuse!

Rob, I'd forgotten about the interurbans - I'm only aware of one such line over here, I think it was near Grimsby and one of the mainline rail companies ended up operating it. Regarding the LHS, all but one of mine are an hour away, the nearer one only sells G scale.

Bye for now

Ahhh my buddy LUC I didn't need to send pics, it was TELEVISED on channel 3!!! Great shots of 5'-4" of nice Colon. I could have run an "N" guage train through there it was so clean, but that 5" radius curve would have caused a derailment for sure. HOWEVER, you guys will never believe this!!!!!!!! The Doctor had that new DCC system!! Dern tootin........5 digit DCC, Computer controlled, all remote control too....the cat's Meow !!

[ blue] PCarrell [/blue] The procedure was a POC......I can tell you guys who need to have it done for the 1st time.....don't sweat it at all, your asleep for the whole ( or is that hole ) thing, you wake up feeling like you had a nice rest, you have a lot of escaping gas, but that doesn't last long, and there was absolutely no discomfort at all. And the peace of mind is 100% worth it. So I guess all Ed's OJ, all the fish and veggies that we eat, and low fat diet, reduced red meat, really works.

Hi all! I spring for drinks for everybody! Just happened to be in the area, walkin' by and decided to stop in.

***...... I had the old spelunking tour done a month ago. Glad yours went well and I agree that the worst part is preparing for the test. I ended up having one large polyp removed that came back as pre-cancerous so I will get to go back in 3 years. Aren't I lucky? I was awake but very relaxed for the procedure so I got to watch TV during the procedure. Pretty boring actually. I would have much rather been working on a tunnel on the layout......... [:o)] They save the worst news for the end of the procedure when they tell you you can't go out for breakfast downtown and have the #3 with bacon, eggs over easy and sourdough toast. I was alright to stop at Dunkin Doughnuts and take home a half dozen to scarf down with my Son's help. That is perfectly OK.... Go figure! They wouldn't even let me work on the layout (should keep my mouth shut). Something about not using a #11 exacto while still "under the influence".

Have a good day all!

Hey guys,

The weeks been going so so, haven't had a whole lot of time to post. Have been reading though.

Good news on my front, I finally get to go seriously railfanning this weekend, after about a two month hiatus. If all goes well, Sunday night or Monday I should have a bunch of shots. Hopefully of BNSF, CP, and if we get lucky a little Iowa, Chicago, and Eastern (ICE, a regional railroad). There's also the possibility I may hit a Model Railroad show in the afternoon, if we decide we'd rather go their then keep chasing trains. It will probably depend if it's cloudy or not (and they are predicting partly cloudy). I'm really excited, and I can't wait for Sunday now.

And Saturday is a meeting of my module group, so that should be good too. Were not going to set up this time, but it should still be fun to get together with the rest of the group and talk and stuff.

Hopefully I'll have a good weekend. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that I don't end up with a bunch of homework or something, as that would really suck......

See ya around,
Noah

***, that's good your little "procedure" went ok.[:)]

Cox, IC used that paint from 1988 until the end. The DEATH STAR logo on it didn't come out until 1988. From 1975-1987 it would have been illinois central gulf.
I'm going to paint my FP7 for CGW but the paint I got does not spray and I'm hoping testors will send me another can. I'm pretty sure the MR article "8 short passenger trains you can model" said no decals in N are available for CGW. But you'll have to check that issue (March 2006 i think)

Good evening gents, as I was working on my layout this afternoon, seeing doctor told me I had to take it easy, nothing strenuous, and I started to wonder about something with layouts. Maybe you guys would like to share your thoughts on this one:

1. If you do a layout of a certain period, you more than likely will be staying with the locomotives of that era. So, if you are doing the 40's, you will have mostly steam, and maybe a couple of Diesels, but certainly none of the nice new Diesels.

2. If you are doing modern age, like the 70's on up, you can have all the nice Diesels, especially the new ones coming out, but Steam would only be Scenic runs.

So what is your take on this guys....? Curious minds would like to know!!!

RAY That is tough news, but at least you found it early, that is more than many men "choose" NOT to do, and suffer the consequences later. No big breakfast, that's a bummer, I didn't get eggs and hash or bacon either, all health foods.

Think I will check out the forum for a while, talk later guys,

wow just took out the memory that was in this compac computor and put in what was in mine just a little change (seeing my old one don't need it anymore scice the mother board died) I went from 168 to 260 megs of ram this putor is doing good for an old putor . found out some kinda bad news on the putor from work its caled no operating system on it but I can put my old hard drive on it and hopefuly with the good mother board it will reconize the drivers for the motom from my putor if not I can use this one to go on the net to get them. I'm going to sooner or later put my hard drive in this one and put xp on the one from work that I'm going to be putting together as it don't have modem either in it so my modem will have to go in to it. this has a 400 prosesor so it should handle my win2000 proffesional.

Lots to do with little time to do it.

Will tal to you all later

Wow...it's been a VERY long time since I've been around. It just gets to dang busy sometimes. I'm on spring break right now so I'm catching up on some sleep and just relaxing...for the most part. Kind of hard when you get 20 inches of snow dumped on you on your first day of spring break. And now, it's once again snowing. 4-6 inches are expected. We've already had like 2 so far and it started about an hour ago.

Just a little update on what's been going on. School has been kicking my butt this semester. Classes are not going all that great so this break was much needed and hopefully help me to re-focus. We had to put our dog down last week so when I got back for break we went and got a new little puppy. We got a 9 week old english setter male. His name is Thomas Bernie, or Tommy. He's amazing. I love having a puppy around. At this moment he is sleeping in the chair on my lap. He's so dang cute. It's going to be extremely difficult to leave for school again.

Also I found a summer job for this summer so I won't have to worry about not having spending and SAVING money. I'll be working at a daycare thing, hopefully, interview is on Friday, but my friend said it's almost 99% guranteed that I'll get the job. I'll also be umping 5th-8th grade baseball. I'll be making some good money hopefully so I'm happy that I might be able to buy some train stuff.

As far as the trains go...Nothing has been going on. I'm finally starting to frequent the forums here and on others as well now that I have some free time. I really want to start getting motivated and working on my layout and come up with a set track plan. Get the foam down and painted and get working on the layout. I've also been looking for a site with photos of Eric Brooman's Utah Belt layout. All I have is what's in the mags. I love his layout and everything he's done with it.

Alright well that's long enough. Hopefully I'll be around for a little while longer...until homework starts taking over my time. I wish I could have a completed layout because I just love looking at pictures of layouts and seeing how real they look.

Ok...that's enough for now. I should keep looking at the forums and try and come up with a track plan...I really need to get some work done on my kits and such. I got a big elevator to put together yet....

Take care!!! I'll have some nice hot chocolate and a fire to keep warm.

Good evening folks.

*** Glad that you survived your proceedure. Bet you don't order anything with saussage in it for a while. lol

To give you my perspective on your question, I model the 60's small more classy diesels all around, since I'm modelling Canadian alot of steam was still in service not just being used for excursion work , I can also still run my electrics as by the early 60
's many of those were still with us as well. Coarse it's your layout to use a teffyism if they don't like it may the train room door hit them in the caboose on the way out ! [:O][swg]

Matt Those coaches look like an interesting project [tup]Not a bad price for your starting stock either. Ontario was blessed with some of the densest and numerous( Radial Canadian term ) interurban lines. The heydays being 1917-1950.Many of the ROW's wer completely separate so heavy track plows and rotory snow plows were quite a common piece of equipment. Snowsweepers tended to be the main snowfighting tool of the street railways,I like both, guess I'm just a MOW equipment fan.

Ding Forgot to mention yesterday but a great job on that end of train garnish [tup]

Alls quiet round here for awhile anyway, got all the kids today. Mothers leaving me this afternoon for a Legion Aux in Chicago and won't be back till tomorrow evening, so I get alone time again, with no kids tomorrow. Been working on the layout some when I have the time and energy. Nice to get outside more with this warmer weather lately and getting some yard work done, so much needs to be done there, I'll still be raking last falls leaves in Sep.

Grayfox , Good hear your test came out OK, I knew it would work out right in the end, and nobody can say your full of it for a few days
On your ?????
I'm trying to keep my time perod in the late 50's early 60's . Plan on running alittle steam and older diesels and slip in newer ones also. I know I'm stretching things a bit, but it works for me.

RT , hopen your test goes well today, goods lucks

Need to get started on mornin chores, might stop back in laters. Hope y'al have a good day and prayers for those in need

Good Morning All,
A regular and some oatmeal with cinnamon and milk please Zoe. It got cold and windy in a hurry last evening. Some flurries, but no snow to speak of yet.

*** - to answer your question, I'm doing the late fifties through mid sixties New Haven. Most all the steam was gone by then except for a couple of snowmelting rigs. I have decided though that more enlightened management took over instead of Dumaine/McGinnes and sought to preserve some steam for posterity, running the occasional railfan trip. While awaiting the restoration of an I-5 streamliner (and the near $1000 it'll take to get one), we have acquired an N&W J-611 to run excursions with to add to the 4-8-2 lt mountain and 080 switcher already on the "historic" roster. the rest of the operating equipment is diesel, but the variety is great. The New Haven used some of everything so I have DL-109's joined by FA and PA Alco's plus RS series switchers, a couple of GE 44 tonners, FM baby trainmasters, RDC's and ,m thinking seriously about one of the Canadian built NH C-liners all in New Haven colors. If I hit the lottery, I can add catenary to my southern (Danbury-Norwalk line) and then can run box electrics and the EP series which are all available in brass. One engine I will acquire for sure is an FL-9. Metro North has continued to run FL-9's this week up and down the D/N branch for commuter trains. What was once loathed especially by the ex-railroaders at the museum is now gleefully welcomed each time it pulls past our building. Says something about our ties to and appreciation of the past, no?

The technique for foam work indoors is to cut with the vacuum held near the cutting to minimize the mess. I still prefer hauling the foam sheet to my workspace and gluing it in place after cutting/sanding/shaping. Pink dust is for the birds [:)]

All for now, time to pick up tools - have a brace of Lotus 18's, a Lotus 7, and a March to attend to today. [:D] CUL,J.R.

Ah, top of the page again. A good breakfast is the key to a good day folks. The coffees fresh and hot - enjoy. J.R.

Morning everyone! It's 8:55 here in good ol' West Virginia. Its just a normal, chilly day. I have made a concoction including rail zip rail cleaner and water, diluted to look like pink peto-bismol, in a serving tray with my track upside down in it. I hope this will clean and restore conductivity to my track, as in the upcoming week (after I hit up the hobby store) I will be replacing. I'm going to lay down new ballast, also as I go along (that is if I can find my eyedroppers). So wish me luck and have a good day!

Got some news from Mother abit ago, seems one 9 year grandson had a poster in the the VFW contest and got first place for the county. Don't know when the awards will be given out or what it is even, but he'll go on to state. If he does good there then it'll go to national in July I guess. Don't ask any details, cause all I know is he draw a map of the US, Washington, and a flag. Didn't even know bout him entering it, he doesn't know the out come yet and we can't tell him

Morning...err...afternoon all. We got another 8 inches of snow lastnight. Bringing this weeks total up to about 28 inches of snow. Our driveways are plowed in again so I'll be shoveling later this afternoon/tonight probably.

Oh well I better find something to eat and then I think I'm going to go venture out into the country to a friends house. Hopefully the roads out there are in decent shape.

Have a good one!!!!
