Evening Gang: The fires are still burning but are being brought under control. There are fires in Oklahoma also. I hope that Greg is alright. He hasen't been in lately.

Der: You never did say what is on that pininsula.

Not much doing since this afternoon. Mary Ann and I raked up some more leaves in the front yard and loaded them into the dump trailer. We then took it down by the barn and dumped it into the manure pile. That will make good compost.

Well Im going to head to bed.

Good Night to All

Evening all,

Haven't been in here in a few days. Tearing through the pages, thats for sure.

cheese,

I like that shot through the door hole. Very "artsy"!

All,

So,...now that everybody is locked in, any takes on who they think will win the 1000 page contest? Looks to me like KenL has a good shot. What do you think?

Prayers for all who need it (thats all of us).

[:(!]Good evening gents,ni9ce warm thunderstormy day here today got to near 70 degrees[:0][8D]. Going back to a normal hovering around 32-33 tomorrow with the possibility of snow[xx(]

Der I like the TT , the weathering looks quite good as well [tup]

uk Matt It will be interesting to see the final project if you do do that snowblower car. They actually weren't all that uncommon, the odd bit is the twin blwers on each end, most of those Ruggles built cars had just one. I've beenkeeping an eye at my fairly local hobby shop, they haev about 12 of the new spuds in stock $70 CDN. Ihave a mind to pick up one, I one a kitbashed snowsweeper on ebay last week that's unpowered. Not having seen the car in real life yet, but I think that a spud may do the trick.

RT Good luck on that stress test.

[angels] and prayers for those in need as well.

Catch everyone later.

mornin all, coffee please Zoe,
just thought I'd stop in for a cup an say hi to everyone. Nothin going on round here, did get some more work done on the hills an hollers over the weekend. Neighbor stop in Sat to see bout painting the back drop and we decided to wait till the ground work was a little farther along.
Sunday night was interesting though. AS some of you know we have friends and a daughter up by Springfield,Ill. We kind of worried bout them, but their all fine the tornados went north of them. We do have 2 step grand daughters that lived in the path though and their OK and no damage to the house. Some of the stores Mother liked to shop at are gone and Jamie said the double crib was brought down. heres a pic I got of it awhile back

HOTSHOTT CHARLIE, nothin wrong with taking yur time on deciding for the layout, I've been 9 months on building mine this time as I'm hoping it will be my last, unless I hit the loitory

RT , good to hear your doing well and luck to ya on the tress test

DER JOHN , like the TT looks right nice

tall fur now, time for mornin chores, thoughts n prayers for all in need

Good Morning All,
Coffee and a toasted hard roll please Zoe. Very strange, had to log in this morning, usually only happens when I've been gone a week or so.

Der John - nice turntable, I like the control house and the way you disgused the motor. A little ink wash and chalk and it'll look a million. I,ve been experimenting lately with chalk scraped off the stick with a knife and then drybrushed onto the part with a a brush dipped in the ink or other thinned flat drying color. Makes a nice grotty flat finish. Also found an old box of the kids coloured chalks and they work too.

Matt - The enigma and the efforts of the US code breakers were always a fascinating subject to me. The way code is encrypted now makes it much more difficult to decypher and made the salvage of the Russian submarine in the Pacific and the seizure of the Pueblo all the more damaging at the time. Does anyone remember the attack on the USS Liberty? Rumor had it that if we hadn't gotten fighter cover up it was to be boarded as well.
The trolleys would be brilliant on a small loop controlled by one of the Dallee traffic controllers. I saw a group of four engines on a small loop all queing up and keeping their distance automatically, idling at a signal post and waiting for the green before proceeding. Good stuff.

RT - Can't you just tell the doc you have enough stress already? The bike seems a good idea if you work into it gradually. Hopefully the people around you don't drive like they do here in Ct. I,ve been thinking of getting another bike myself but I may need a pistol permit to go with it so I can ward off the apprentice morons behind the wheel.

Scott - Thanks for keeping us posted on the progress of your Grandad. Hope the new surroundings (and food) better suit him.

Spent some time on the layout the last couple of days. Added some senicing and details here and there and started to plan the bracing for the next level. I may need to add a second fiddle yard beneath the first as I found another 8 NH passenger cars cheap at a show this weekend. Couldn't pass them up but I now have enough passenger equipment to think about a separate yard. As most of my cars are the older heavyweights I may need a second steam loco to haul them around [:-^]
The VSCCA tech seminar we had here at the shop went well on Sat with about 100 people through and a nice dinner after. The rig left for Sebring and the vintage part of the 12 hour race Mon AM and now it's back to work. CUL, [:D] J.R.

inch,

Aren't tornado's fun (NOT!). As the saying goes, "You don't like the weather in Indiana, stick around 5 minutes, it'll change!"

Glad everybody is OK.

All,

I almost forgot, last night my daughters dog (a Chihuahua, and I don't want to hear about it[X-)]) had puppies. So now there are three new pup's in the house.

Prayers for all those in need (that's all of us really).

Good morning to all. We had some tough TS's roll through last night, and here it is only mid March...what a weird Winter this has been. Today it is cloudy, in the 50's and off and On showers..
Well tomorrow I have the 10 year Colonoscophy exam......I think I will tell the doctor to be careful...he is going where no man has been before. LOL I have to drink 4 litres of this "crap" to clean out the tubes so that the camera will be able to take nice pictures....Hey LUC, do you think I should post the pics here in the CS??? I also can only eat jello, and not red jello, or clear liquids, broths etc. ...I'm already hungry as a horse, how will I ever make it until tomorrow morning ???? [:(!][V][V][:(]

So, seeing I can't eat anything, I will continue to work on the layout design.

Ohh man I'm hungry... Ohh Cloe...not more of that stuff to drink..yuc

Hi all

Not a huge amount happening here, have mainly been trying to start restoring an old Hornby-Dublo tanker that I think may be a very long-term project. It needs new wheels and couplers along with a new tank barrel ideally as the original is seriously scruffy. So far I’ve resprayed the chassis and intend to give the tank ends a coat of paint, I’ve found a supplier for couplers but they don’t seem to have wheels or bodies.

John, Enigma was a lot better as a book than as a film apparently – I’m just annoyed I can’t use it as a reference due to it being technically fiction!

Duke, the trick is to think of it in terms of five 2’000 word essays – I should be able to get it done by Easter at this rate, it’s due in the week after.

Rob, I think we pay about £25 for SPUDs online – try www.mainlytrains.com as that’s where mine came from. I think I’d be more inclined towards a conventional British snowbroom than that thing – can’t see it being allowed out in public with those blades whirling around at the front!

J.R. I was looking at some infra-red train detection kit for the trams – the idea being that you have an IR beam pointing up between the rails that reflects from the underside of equipment and turns the power off to that section. Power would be restored when the following tram tripped the next IR beam which would then turn the power back on, then power down again when the following tram reached the stop. Ideally I’d be able to fit a few of these on passing loops so that traffic would be automated and near-continuous.

Bye for now

Just a quick note to mark the page and get us back on page one of the forum. Not much happening today. I'm going to meet my son and a friend and go out to Clark Gardens to check out the site for the train show this weekend. Now they are predicting rain for Saturday and Sunday. If that happens or looks like it will happen I don't think that we'll haul the equipment out to display. It's too much trouble to have it sitting under tarps for two days.

***: I had one of those a couple of years ago. It took three days to get me cleaned out. When I finally got in to do it my blood sugar was 40. I said for someone to get me a Snickers bar but they went with a glocouse drip. They did give me a seditive. It must have been good because I slept through the whole thing.

Well it's almost time to hit the clock and head for home. Take care everyone.

This was supposed to be a quick in and out. Good thing I didn't get wordy.

Good afternoon gents....if I make it until tomorrow at about 10:30 without eating something substantial, it will be a miracle.

PAUL It didn't take too long for me to get "cleaned out", I had to start at noontime drinking 8 oz glasses of this clear mixture that tastes like salt water, every 10 minutes!!!! The mixture is in a 4 litre bottle, and they say it usually takes about 3-4 litres to get a person "cleaned out"...well 2 litres did it for me, that stuff is worse than Panthers p... LOL[V][censored] I can't eat anything now until after the procedure which should be all done by about 10:30am tomorrow......I will be like a ravishing Tiger by then. Luckily, I don't have Diabetes, so my lower blood sugar will not be too bad to handle.

On the better side of things, the paper layout design is coming along nicely.

Talk later.... wheres the food...

Hey ***,

I turned 50 this year, so I have to do my colonoscopy this year. Not looking forward too it.... it will be my first time. I think the "cleaning out" and the thought of what they do, is the worst part of the deal. The drug they give you makes you forget everything that happens..... good thing ! :-)

Good luck and hope you get a "clean bill" of health..... along with the clean digestive track.

no pistol permit per say needed just a paintball gun hit one right in the middle of there windshield and they'll think next time especially if its in the a.m. as there drinking that large cup of coffee instead of paying attention to the road gets there atention every time LOL.

No thats one reason I live way out in the country and the roads have a 4' sideing on them on both sides so plenty of room for a bike or two.

Was to windy today and yesterday to think of riding bet ( don't know for sure) we had winds at times about 40 mph today and yesterday (not good bike riding in that )

Well the putor died today (the old one )we turned it on at work and the guy checked a couple of things and then did a restart and well she shut down and then when she went to start went to first beep and that was all there was and thats all we can get out of her.

The one I picked up this weekend is still working and barely getting me on the net but the good news my bosses grandson (he 2nd in charge of the business first his dad then him as my boss turned it over to his son years ago. ) said I could have one of the old putors for $50.00(they just replaced them about 5 years ago and again now just about last January so the putor is only about 5 years old better than what I'm use to for sure lol. The one I had I've had about 4 years and it was an old one my brother had in fact I got it from him it had windows 95 on it and he always keeps up with what version is newest so that putor is at least 8 years old if not more as it could be from around 19 92 and he upgraded to win 95 who knows and he doesn't remember he tried to tell me it was only about 3 years old and he sent it to me 4 or 5 years ago and he had it first then his son then his daughter then it was in the atic for a while LOL . anyway feel it served its time well.

Not much else happeing around here. still hoping all will go fine thursday acually feel it will but just have to be nervouse as last time really scared me.

Well time to cut short all my blabing talk to you all later

Good evening.

I got a new toy today, a new digital cam.. Kodak C340. appears to be easy to use and now I can show more of Gloetown and its progress,

Here is the junction as it looks today.

I've added a few more trees.

This is a shot that shows off a bit of my attempt at weathering a box car and, a little bit of the that SW9/1200

A quick good evening gents, also a bump as this suckers almost slipped to page three again.

Matt Thanks for that website, I have to do the math in my head, but 25 pounds + shipping and exchange and I think it's almost the same price, give or take 5 dollars. The hour drive to that shop is likley my best option.

Those "snowblowers" weren't out witout support, usually the line car went out with it,for the most part the NS&T used snowsweepers or their steeple cabs fitted with plow blades, the rotary only came out on the interurban and freight runs far away from people, now squirrels and skunks on the otherhand... anyone hungry *** [?]

*** Good luck on your garden hosing[:O] I had one done 10 yeasr ago when i was 25 they were looking for an ulcer which turned out to just be reflux. I got both ends scopped that day... not an experiance I'm ever wishing to repeat let me tell you.[xx(]I remember telling the Dr to do the throat scope first LOL.[:O][:-^]

Inch Good to hear that your family was untouched by that storm[angel] I'm so glad that I live in an area that those type of storms are an almost non-possibility.

Good Morning All,
A regular and a Dutchie please Zoe. Reports of the demise of the New Haven FL-9 appear premature. Two appeared in Danbury yesterday afternoon hauling a commuter consist.. Of course I didn't have my camera handy as it was in the rig on its way to Fla. They weren't there this morning, but I'm sure they'll be by again - this six months after the "farewell tour". The museum is getting two 44 Tonners from Electric Boat in New London, but we can't use the rails to get them here. Too much red tape between MTA and FRA so we'll end up using a truck and low boy. Seems the 44 tonner was built with plain bearings and they won't even tow them as they (whoever they are) feel the risk of burning a bearing and having a breakdown is too great.

*** - Good luck today. Been there - done that - got to watch the tv show. The worst part was the gallon of vile liquid the night before.

Jerry - sounds like you've made good progress. Next time I do foam hills I'm going to try carving sanding and then just painting them. Our museum senic guru did a presentation on that last week and the result was great. To get the natural variation in color of the local rocks he blobbed on several dark (black, gray, brown) colors and then smooshed them together on the foam following up with dry brushed white and light gray for highlights. All the paints were the water based elcheapo stuff for kids from Michaels or similar. Cheap and happy and looked great with a bit of ground foam thrown on (ground up tea leaves and fall color tree leaves). The brush he used was about 1/2 to 3/4" wide and he stippled most of the foam instead of using brush strokes when schmooing the colors together.

all for now - time to pick up tools - did anyone ever hear from David j611? CUL,J.R.
