Good morning from Tupelo, MS. Birthplace of Elvis Presley. The GM&O ran just to our west and the STL/SF ran/runs through Tupelo.

Mostly BNSF Coal trains right now.

I am sitting on my patio with a cup of coffee, throwing a tennis ball for my Aussie Shepard to fetch and trying to decide what kind of layout I should build. First I guess, I have to decided what type of layout I want to build, then what scale, then.......

heheheeee Guess planning is more than half the fun !

Good morning everyone !

QUOTE: ***: Trot Nixon is still in right field, and Jason behind the plate. They actually have a real good infield this year, if the pitchers stay healthy, we should do OK.
No, I didn't forget the big three that they kept. And I agree that they picked up some good infielders. And we'll see how Coco does leading off. About 23 days 'til season opener.

Good morning Charlie! Welcome aboard.

Go Braves ! Go St. Lous ! Go Baseball !

I can never really decide who I'm gonna pull for, I sort of pull for both teams equally, until the end of the year.

In college Baseball, Go Ole Miss Rebels ! We have a pretty fair club this year.

Der John, TT is looking good. I like the overhead ladder system too, should look good on the completed turntable.

Haven't been posting a whole lot lately. I've been reading, but not a whole lot to say. Just been trucking away here at home, although on school work more than on trains. I took about a three week break from the module after the Train show, but I am looking to go back at it now. There is the possibility we may be displaying at a show at the end of April, and if we do I want to have a good deal more done scenery wise, and I also want to have all of the tracks wired and working instead of just the main lines.

Good evening everyone, we had a terrific day weatherwise today, I can't believe it is March 11th and we have 60 degree weather!! I was helping son #2 burn a huge brush pile today, I can't believe they let us burn as we had 20-30mph winds from the NW, and we haven't had any rain/snow in a while, things are very dry here. We had the trusty hose handy, and I kept the surrounding area well soaked in case of any sparks. Everything went well.

DER JOHN I see some RR tracks mighty close to the TT, how are you going to connect to the curve, or, is this a bypass line?

ED A funnel top tank car arrived today in the Rochdale section of town on the main CSX line. It was full of OJ and marked location on ticket was Mexico!! Thank you Ed , we have been out of OJ for weeks now...man did it taste good.

DUKE Maybe I can pretend that I have a business, and order some of those Posi-Taps at Wholesale prices? Actually, I do electrical work for friends and family, so I guess I sort-of qualify right?
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! A few months ago?!? That was a year ago (back on March 6th, 2005)! Jeez, my memory doesn't go back that far. That's the old GP-10 #8330 of the Gulf & Ohio. Sorry, did some searching and couldn't turn up anything recent on the line that might indicate having sold the unit or having a new color scheme. If you get a shot or two, send me the files and I'll see hat I can turn up.

Regards

Howdy howdy howdy.

First of all, [#welcome] to all the new faces.

Update: My grandfather was moved to the rehab center yesterday. It was only yesterday because they had to wait a bit for the room they wanted to become available.

Thank all of you for your kind words and reassurance. They do help.[:)] Thank you thank you thank you.

Cox: I had black oily stuff on everything...Either they use a thin lubricant, or their lube is just plain junk. Or it seeped out of the grease over a short time. I don't know. The model I had problems with had been sitting on the shelve for a few months.

PC: Yeah, I'm big into my iPod. I love music. It's a big part of my life-aside from the fact that it puts money in my pocket.[;)]

Matt: I did get the model railroad for my sims. I always do.[:D] And for some odd reason...The character I always make as myself loves the thing.[:p] It works out perfectly. It is a shame that you can't expand it any further. I'd like to have a huge layout for my Sims. That would be so cool.[^]

Jim in CG: Nope, I haven't forgotten the whole dating thing yet...I was just kind of ignoring it for a short while there. I would hope that Apple wouldn't screw over the third-party developers for the iPod. The Bose iPod Sound Dock is the most popular one on the market. So popular that Apple includes the docking trays with the new videos and Nanos.[:)]

Mikey: CD players...Eh...Only ever had one...A cheap generic brand thing just to keep me alive on the bus.[:p] It was too big for my tastes. And too fragile as well. I was surprised how well the ESP worked though. Too bad iPods (or at least hard drives) don't offer that.

Ed: Billards are fun. We have a pool table in Sykesville. My brothers and I would play a game of [8] every now-and-then. I miss having it around.

DerJohn: Yes, the rehab building is in a different facility. It's very close to my aunt. I'm not sure exactly what his opinion of the place is yet though. You've noticed Bose products from ads, not personal experience??? Shame on you, I'll have to fix that.[;)]

Okay y'all, I'll be around. Catch y'all later.

Ed and Paul, Noah: Thanks for the kind remarks. Have been busy with the paints today, and the spackle to fill in the dozen or so unused track placements in the ring wall. Fortunately I did have a plastic sheet thin enough to slip between the table and the ring wall. It’s Evergreen Assortment pack 9008. 0.010” thickness is the thinnest. (Hey, it’s nearly St. Patrick’s day, I can pull a line like that can’t I?[(-D]) I’ve had the pack since at least the 1980s, cost $3.25 Cdn then. I wonder what it is now. The chart on the back says that .01” is equivalent to 11/2 “ in the prototype. So that’s the clearance between the turntable and the concrete ring. Sounds tight to me. What would you folks expect that gap to be? Just curious.

TupeloRob:[#welcome] TV Producers welcome for sure. Maybe we can get a few more mrr programs.[swg] You get more layout per foot in the smaller scale, so go Normal Scale. There’s plenty of Horibly Oversized layouts already.[2c] [:D] Besides, there’s much more available in N these days, and the locos run really well, and at scale speeds.

***:
QUOTE: DER JOHN I see some RR tracks mighty close to the TT, how are you going to connect to the curve, or, is this a bypass line?
Have a look at the track plan, and all will become clear.

Scott: Thanks for the update on your grandpa. Hope it works out for him there, and that the food is better.[dinner]
QUOTE: You've noticed Bose products from ads, not personal experience??? Shame on you, I'll have to fix that.
…Oooo, are you sending money?[(-D] Frankly, that’s what gets in the way of our buying any decent sound system, that, and the time to actually sit down and listen[{(-_-)}]

I’m off to layout the turntable operator’s hut on some more of that 0.01” plastic sheet, and see if it makes up as easily as the paper one did.
I probably won’t be in again tonight, so good night everyone, and prayers continuing for all those in need of healing, comfort, peace. God Bless.[angel]

Well, it has finally happened. Deb is leaving me this morning. And for another woman.
Oh, its not what you're thinking. She is going to Miami to visit her mother for a week.
No, no partying for me. Still have to get up at 4:30 to get ready for work.

Chuck- Did you send the tape on to anyone?

Coffee is ready. Be back later.

Dave, I don't know for sure yet. I have a meeting of my Module group on Saturday, so if I do at all it will be Sunday. If I go my ride will be another member of my module group, and I don't know for sure if he's decided to go or not. It's also weather dependent, as both of us are railfans, and the main other reason we would go would be to shoot some BNSF and CP action as well as head to the show. So I probably won't know for sure until Friday or Saturday.

Morning all

Just been sitting back there in my corner booth listening to what has been going on.
To those on sick call best to you and hope there is a fast and good recovery and good to hear of those that have recovered.
[#welcome] to all the newbies and you have found a good spot to sit and talk for a spell.

John That TT is really going to look good with the arch and the hut on it. [^][8D][tup]

*** I did a google on the Posi-Locks and this is what I found. The first one on the page takes you to their site and if you go to the bulk bag they have 12-18ga,500pcs for $182.50. If you go down to the last one on google it has Posi-Products and the name of the company is EasternBeaver and they have the 12-18 for $1.05ea and the 14-18 for $1.00ea. That was the best I could find and I will give the wholesalers on their site a call tomorrow to see if they will sell to the public and what they want for them. I picked a pack up at Wally World yesterday for $5.77 with 6 to a pack.

That’s about it
Talk to you later

Paul,
I am so sorry I missed you at the train show. I was so disgusted with it and my sciatica in my right leg was killing me. I was VERY disappointed at the show. [:(!]
Only 4 layouts and about 50 vendors. NOT what a train show is supposed to be. I will not be going back to this one. The Metroplex council show is MUCH better. They actually promote the hobby rather than make money. I have no problem with having vendors at a train show. It is a good thing. But when the main focus on the show is marketing, I have a problem with that. Train shows are supposed to promote the hobby.

OK rant off. I really enjoyed the ARK-LA-TEX layout. It is VERY will done and lots of things to discover on it.

Anyway, Sorry I haven't post here sice I got back to Texas in November of last year, just don't have anything to talk about.

Hi all

Not much happening here, we've had some more snow but not a lot and it's melting. Most annoying really, I rather enjoy driving on snow!

John, I was thinking in those terms – a chance to figure out how to build reliable switches for tram track and also somewhere for the trams to run. I'm currently looking at the Model Power track range as the switches operate in a manner not dissimilar to tram ones (only the blade end of the switch rail moves, and it's obviously hinged. No good for heavy rail but ideal for tram use!). Talking of Profumo, I thought it rather unfair how the media dealt with his death – they didn't mention his years of charity work after resigning but just played up the scandal.

RT, that old PC will probably improve if you can put more memory into it. Compaq are infamous for never putting enough in, so the thing lumbers along. $50 is pretty good for a functioning PC!

Scott, sounds like a Sims expansion pack titled “Sims Model Railroad” might well find another buyer apart from me then...

Bye for now

Good Afternoooooon Clubbers!!!![:D][:D][:D]

Sitting at work watching and waiting and waiting and waiting (we do alot of waiting here) [:-^]for some train to hit the bville reader to inbound the train the YM wants inbounded! [yeah] This is boring..so I read back 5 pages (I forgot where my last post was!)

I've been evaluating the DCC controllers and systems...and it seems to me that Digitrax for a relatively small layout is the most reasonable beyond the initial investment. That being said, I haven't found anyone really offering pricing below MSRP. (Almost like buying a new car!) Did I miss something in the translation?[%-)]

Lots of good reading, but real operation I haven't seen yet. I have no time right now (besides being at work- ahem on the job ahem sitting and waiting ya know!). Between Scouts, taxes, a vacation (why did I do that?), cleaningv/clearing out the house of old s---and looking for a new job (RR life not fun...MRR lots of fun)...I'm full! (no more coffee please!)[swg]

[soapbox]It's suppose to snow 6 to 9 inches by morning here in the twin cities so you guys in the upper midwest and Noah better look out for the white-out conditions by morning.

[soapbox] I saw someone trying to copy a YM ticket or rail yard list type form somewhere in the forums here, If ya need a form or two, I might be able to come up with one depending what it is. If I can get a hold of the train delay or 125 form anyone interested or am I blowing steam? (pun intended) [:)][8D][:)]

Cya all soon,

Mike

atsf railfan I guess the best thing is your still around even f you don't post much you do remember us and stop and say hi once in a while once every 4 months is fine if thats al you can spare or when you feel its worth talking about something . other of us (i'm guilty of this ) stop in just to moan or to say hi and waste sometime .

Glad to have all thats here they help a lot .

Well all for a while if I haven't said CFO and I are staying put decieded at this point it isn't worth moving right now.

I'm on a putor that is barely running the internet it has windows 95 in it I'm going to talk to my freind the putor wiz and see if maybe theres something we can do to either get my other putor going right again or something to make this one faster. example old putor about a minute or so to load this page new putor could be 1 minute or could be 5 minutes lol depends on the mood its in or if anything else is trying to load or run. I try to just do one thing at a time with this one. in other words no playing solitary while trying to load a page don't work it will do one or the other .

Well got in a lionel corral set with cattle car yesterday in original box the only problem there is some medium rust in places that I've basicly taken care of and the boxes have some water damage to them but works fine so far with all I have been able to do.

Just ordered parts for a engine I got in the other day (I knew it didn't work win I bidded on it but its an $75.00 to $95.00 engine and its in excellant condition other than needing new dc motor and elaectronic e unit about $25.00 and I paid about $20 including shipping so I should be able to do okay.

Well thats about all for now all have a good day and take care

Hi Gang: Here I am at work again. On the up side I have high speed access, 100mbs.

Atsf fan: For you to have nothing to say is like saying that the north pole dosen't have much ice. I do enjoy the layouts but I go for the vendors more. I'm always on the hunt for ore cars and that elucive 1950s era Eucled truck. The Ark-La-Tex layout is always a must see but there were also a couple of great iNvisable layouts and one Z layout. The Z layout really ran well . Much better than I would have expected for something that small. One of the iNvisable layouts was very ingenious in that it had several different routes that were interconnected. Brad at Brad's trains had a undec Spectrum 2-10-2 that I am going to go back and get this afternoon after work. $149.95 de-corder equiped. Of course I don't have DCC yet and it may be a bit in the furture but the price is pretty good. I got another undec ore car in Gscale for john and my G railroad at his place. I say our railroad since most of the stuff is mine that he has heisted to build it.

***: That tank car of OJ was for all of us. you were not supposed to drink it all yourself.

Scott: Good hearing that you grandpa is doing better. I hope that he likes it at the rehab facility. Tell him that I said hello.

Well if you all read my reply to Gary you have read a report on the train show. I have been to bigger shows but this was one of the few that I got to go to this season. I also got a couple of MDC taper side ore cars and a "T" shirt for my grand daughter. As I said I'm going to go back after work and pick up that 2-10-2 if it's still there.

Der: That penisula in the middle of the layout looks like a good spot for an ore dock. Yup , shure looks like an ore dock to me.

Well I'd better get off and go do something for the company. ( Gary says why should now be different. Have a good one.

The Canadian Press were much more charitable[(:D], detailing quite a bit of his work, and even quoting Tony Blair on the subject![tup]

I’ve just about finished the turntable detailing. If Railimages works (claimed it couldn’t find, or had invalidated what it did find of a couple of shots) I’ll put them in here. The one that did upload already is this one…
Hang about. While I was copying the address, the other two that I’d gone back and re-uploaded came in with no trouble. So now I can get them in the right order[:D]
Here’s the table showing the bridge, frame, and the filled in concrete perimeter ring.

And from the air, so to speak. I’m in two minds about the sameness of the table weathering. I’ve now sprayed on a mist of India ink wash, but I was wondering about making a stencil and applying a few (and this could easily be over done) lighter coloured planks to simulate repairs. What do you think?

Finally, the large shed that hides the motor for the TT. It’s been painted, and the roof vents are those plastic thingies that hold pairs of things together in stores, glove, shoes, that sort of thing. I don’t throw out anything that looks like mrr stuff.[(-D]

We are in full March Break mode here, and I’ve been summoned by # 3 grandchild to see Fantastic Four.

Later maybe.
