Good late afternoon Coffee Shop Patrons. Happy St. Patrick’s Day to one and all.
I’ve been able to finish and place the turntable repair scene, and so long as Railimages is working, the photos should be ready to post before I go for dinner.[dinner]
The table was uninteresting visually, so now it has some work being done on it. The elements of the scene turned out to be quite similar in colour, so I added a safety cone and some touches of red to draw the eye to the scene. Here it is in the “table normally parked” position.

A closer look from more or less ground level.

And from the air; there are two saw horses, a square, a cordless saw, a cordless drill, two hammers in the box of nails, two wrecking bars, a broom and the aforementioned safety cone. Materials include scrapped planking, new lumber, sawdust.

Artic restaurant cars? That explains the cold food![(-D]

Time to get ready to eat.

HI ALL

.............Cloudy and chilly 45 degrees rain today just 30% we still get rain almost every day...........May I please have a cup of mud with choclate please cloe.

....***.........
.......My MRR is based in the late 1800's to the early 1900's ..Logging and I try to stay in this time period. So all of the my power is steam with 2 exceptioins. Two very early diesels { MDC } they have been modified to look like a GE???? or WORTHINGTON??? that was purchesed by a small logging co in northern WA. in 1919. So far no pictures have shown up but they were written up in THE TIMBERMAN in feb of 1920. Like I guess a lot of us have said this is your RR and you can do anything you want and remember its all in fun.

........DER JOHN........
.......I really have liked your ideas on the TT the more I see the more I want one but no space or wrong time period and also nobody except the large logging companys could afford them and I'm not a large company just 18 miles long and only a small mill.
.......All.....
.........Kathy has had lunch and is now interwiewing a new caregiver other than me. The govt. gave her a lot of time to use and they pay for them both of us.
I'm sore from painting [spray] ceiling white in RR room. Will be filling holes in walls and finishing the elec outlets and the trac lights for the ceiling after the paint dries. Sat there is a logging RR meeting at CAMP 18 tomorrow. Kathy and myself are going and I will try to take pictures and post same if we can go. I'm tired and sore.

............God bless and good luck...........Chuck and Kathy.....,

PS.... For those in need and that means all of us prayers go out...Kathy
Remember model railroad logging is a FUN business and we all need FUN........ACD

Well all Second oppion basicly was given before my cadioligist mentioned I needed an ICD as my personal doctor told me the type of attack I had if it would goto a heart attact it has about a 80 percent of you not surviving and mention that the carioligist might want to do some type of implant which I would very highly concider doing if he sugests it. So my personal doc was already thinking in that line so I guess I got second oppion before the first in this case.

UKMatt: So, the woodgrain paint job on those Hornby coaches isn’t so far off the mark after all![:O] I’ve had time now to go to the web site you gave for the LNER articulated coaches. Interesting. I see that those trains were quite often “in charge of” a N2 locomotive. (odd way of putting it, I would have thought of the loco being in charge of the coaches, but that’s my chauvinism showing.[:D]) , the other class favoured being the N7. Anyway, I found these, an N2 and an N7 in good old Google.

… and not enough snow to justify the decking![:D]
Hope the painting stiffness works itself out over the weekend. Enjoy your RR meeting.[8D]

RT: Sounds like you are in good hands with two minds thinking the same treatment.[tup]

Last evening with the grandkids on this visit. Packing and tidying under way. Had better go and join the fray!

evening all, Cleo can I get a lg. milk and some TUMS please. Made vinison chile for supper in the crock pot, and don't think it need the extra chiles in it. Might have been the 4 bowls also.

Jerry,, mother called last night and said there was only bout a inch on the ground where they were. She called awhile ago and said she should be home tween 11 and 12 tonight. I'll be in bed by then, so I'll see here in the morning.

DER, really like the turn table scene. When you get it all done maybe you ought to send a pic to MR

GMT,, I'm afraid the brass will have to go on the back burner for awhile, at least till I can get some other projects done for room on the work bench

Worked round the house today inside n out. Not to bad, temp in the 40's, a lite wind, and sunny. Have been in the train room some and got alittle more done in there. I need to get moving till laters

Good evening all, hope everyone had a great St. Patricks Day. Hope not too much "pinching" going on..... unless you are doing the pinching. :-)

RT, just concerned about your health. I like to see second opinions these days. A lot of things being done when it's not needed. It sounds like you are in good hands. Leave it to God and the God-Given ability of the doctors and you will be just fine.

I drove up to Memphis today and dropped into a couple of hobby stores. One store was totally trains only, it was fun to wander around. They had G, HO, N and O layouts setup. Several running. Still having trouble making up my mind on what I want to build on my new layout..... thought today would help, probably only clouded my thoughts even more. This train hobby store was on Sycamore View Road. I also went to a Hobbytown at WolfChase in Memphis, I was pleasantly surprised that they had a fairly nice selection of train stuff.... not a lot, but more than most of the Hobbytowns I have been to.

Well, have an Irish Coffee and have a great evening.

Good Evening Gang: There is good news from the Panhandle. They are having rain mixed with sleet. You can guess what this has done to the fires. While they are not out yet the fire fighters are getting a chance to ease up and take a deep breath. There are hot spots that have to be taken care of and hopefully the whole thing will be over. The score as reported tonight is 845,000 acres burned 10,000+ head of livestock lost and 11 people killed. It’s going to be awhile until the area recovers.

RT: It sounds like your regular doctor was on the ball. It’s nice when they agree on the treatment. Will that dingus hookey be DCC or analogue? I’ll pass on anything to drink or eat tonight. We had dinner just a short while ago and don’t want to over do it.

Philnrunt: I’ve run a train of 64 cars and it does look good. I also ran a train of 120 cars and that was something. It was really too long for my steam. Most of the ore trains will be 28 to 36 cars depending on the motive power available. I’m doing some tests on the ruling grade to rate each type of locomotive. So far it looks like the Spectrum 2-8-0s will be rated at 20 cars. The D&IR 2-8-2, which is brass, will be 32 cars but could actually handle more. The brass USRA 2-8-2 will be the same. I haven’t tried the Spectrum 2-10-2 yet. The Athearn 2-8-2 is going to be assigned to ore yard switching since it would only pull 16 cars up the ruling grade. I figure that my brass 0-8-0 will be able to push 20 cars up the ore dock approach. As far as the information on the Homer, I have it in my library. All I have to do is take the time to grab the book and look it up. That copy of Know Your Ships should have the info on the Homer. She didn’t go to scrap until the some time in the 90s.

Inch: It has rained a little but is really supposed to get more starting tonight. Until it got a little wet today you could smell dust all the time.

Jerry: I’m going to make my own loads. I have actual ore from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and have found dirt here that looks like the red ore also. I’m going to make several different types of loads so the ore yard crew will have to sort and load the dock according to the steel mills order.

Son John and I did some cleaning of the basement today. I have to get the place somewhat cleaned up for Ed’s visit. I’d like to have some thing running too.

News Flash: It’s RAINING.

On that note I’ll say Good Night All

*** My layout will be STEAM with maybe a diesel or two of the early years and a mix of any era that I like.

Best to all that are on sick call and to those that are recovering.

[#welcome] to the newbies and this is a good place to just kick back and chew the fat,so to speak.

Haven’t done too much on the layout except to darken the clouds a little more as they seemed to be too light to my eye and I have been working on some ideas for a logo.

That’s about it

Peace descends as the grandchildren have returned home. Quite a quiet visit this time. Maybe they are growing up? Time for a quick tea please Chloë, before it’s dog feeding time.

Mike:

Thanks! There’s 2 reasons off the top of my head. 1, the digital camera we have has decided not to play any more (no grandkids pics this trip either, as we left it ‘til today, and that was too late.[:(] ) 2. MR want 35 mm transparencies, at least that’s my understanding, and those I cannot give them, I wouldn’t even know what kind of film that is.

Ed:
QUOTE: Hmmm, cordless saw..... you mean a handsaw? Cordless drill...... you mean a brace and bit?
The cordless saw doesn’t floss.[(-D] …and keeping to the dental theme, the brace and bit, hmm…[(-D]

Paul: That rain is very welcome I’m sure. Altogether not a great start to the year. One has to wonder what the summer may be like.

OZJim: Easy to see why you like those ditch lights! Thanks for the photos.[tup]

***: Forgot to add in the discussion about steam / diesel thing that I avoid box car roof walks. That feature alone sets a time period.

Good afternoon, all! Chloe, I’d like a hot fudge sundae and an order of cheese fries with my coffee, please.

C’mon, guys, I figured as long as it had taken me to get back into the Shop, that we’d have reached the 1000th page already. Guess everyone else must not be posting a whole lot more often than I am. [:O] Did anyone pick an early May date? They might have a chance at winning... [swg]

Jerry, the buildings (for this set of modules/sections) will only be maybe a foot and a half, possibly 2 feet long - more of a big fish in a small pond, since my layout won’t have any large cities or towns. The CAW (Colorado, Arizona & Western) is just a strugglin’ short line. [;)] No BigBoys or Challengers on it either (unless D&RGW sent one through to Holbroook by mistake!). [(-D]

RT, what’d you find out with the doctor? Guess you sort of had the Dr.’s okay, but be careful before you bite off too much with that. Don’t want an early trip to the ER that isn’t planned, y’know. [:O] Hope your stress test went well and that... all came out okay in the end, to borrow a phrase from someone around here...[:-^][:-^][:-^] And I'd agree - get a second opinion, but don't wait forever on it.

Paul, I’ve been wondering about you, with the reports about the panhandle fires. Whereabouts are you? - I’d pictured you in the western end of Texas, but from Mapquest and Parker County's site, it looks like you’re almost a suburb of Fort Worth! [(-D] What town are you close to, and how far away are those fires?

Matt - is that Enigma one of the early computers that coded messages for the Allies? Or do I have that confused with some sci-fi movie I’ve seen? Both? [;)] Guess it’s better to think on your dissertation as five (‘only’) 2000 word essays than one whoppin’ huge 10,000 word monster, huh? [:)] Best of wishes on it.

So, DerJohn - Nice work on the work crew's tools - can you e me drawings, and I'll enlarge them to Horribly Oversized? [;)] If the turntable is like other tables, does that mean you CFO will be wanting to stack some crafts or other stuff on it? [}:)][:-^][:-^]

dingoix cute li’l caboose! [yeah] Lucky for you, BridgeTom (out in California)’s cats haven’t been checking in the Shop lately. They love to steal cabeese! [:)]

Poor ***, it has not been a good several days for you. You’re gonna be hungry as a ravenous lion when you get things all done with your doctor! Hope I don’t have to do that anytime soon with my Dr.! [:O] [yipes!] But you better use some restaint with the CFO, or she may send you to the ER with something more painful... [:O] [ouch, ouch, ouch...][:-^][:-^][:-^] At least, as you said, you have that out of the way for another decade.

On your question about time period and locos, there is also what Eric Brooman (of St. Louis, operator of the Utah Belt you might have seen) did. He started with (not sure what to call it) ‘early modern’ (?) and over time has upgraded his locos, and even had one place on his layout where the construction crew tore down one building. Modeling ‘progress’ as he goes. He now is using the ‘Toaster’ (GE) locos which replaced his original EMD units. Anyway, that’s one idea, though I don’t want to be buying new locos every few years (as he does, and sells off his old ones like the real RR’s do). Oh, and [ditto] TrolleyRob’s comment on the Teffy rule of the trainroom. grin [:-^][:-^]

Myself, since I’m freelancing, my line is in the mid-to-late 1950’s, with some steam equipment (the earliest CAW locos obtained) - due to my turntable size, probably no larger than a Heavy Mikado or a Pacific, and even including a Shay on the run to the mines and to Sawmill (where there is, can ya guess?). But I’ll be having mostly EMD machines, SW 7’s and 1200’s, GP7’s/GP9’s for the peddler freight, a couple to four F7 units for some passenger or freight duty, and a few RDC’s for the mid-week passenger runs. Don’t think I’ll be adding any AC’s or modern bruisers of either EMD or GE lineage.

[#welcome]Dean1530! and thanks for the coffee, too! [:)] So how often does Starbucks plan to do that kind of thing? [:)]

And [#welcome] beegle55! What’d you score on eBay? Tell us a bit about yourself (scale, modeling a particular RR, time period modeled, etc.). And have a cup on me - enjoy the Shop. [:)]

And [#welcome] back, Hawk 05 - it has been a while! Good to hear that you have a job lined up for the summer. Keep hanging around here, and the ol’ RR itch will get you back in the train room again! And that money from the job will come in handy for the train and layout! [yeah] You did download the PDF files of his layout here, right?:

http://www.trains.com/Content/Dynamic/Articles/000/000/004/638htsmd.asp

I did a little checking, and one board had a post that said Eric doesn’t have email or a website, so the above and the magazine photos (or a trip to the Gateway Division NMRA conference might be your best shot. I think this past fall they had his layout on the tour that Gateway runs, so maybe next year or soon...

Inch, congrats to your grandson, and good to hear you guys dodged major damage (except for Momma’s shopping, perhaps). [;)]

WaltersRails - nice website (and good pics of your layout, looks like you’ve been making progress! [tup]

Good to see you passing through, Northern Phil! C’mon back when you can have some of Chloe’s apple pie a la mode. Yum! [dinner]

HotShotCharlie, you seem to be getting around!

And [#welcome]SFRailfan! Hey, just ask Chloe for your favorite tea. She has made up bags of all kinds and varieties for our tea drinkers. [:)]

Well, I’m not quite all caught up, and I probably have some errors in this post, but I have to go for a while tonight. Hopefully, I can get back in tonight and catch the rest of the posts. [angel][angel] and prayers for everyone’s health. Good to hear that Paul’s area is getting rain (at last!). Everyone hopefully can get some work in on your layout and RR this weekend. Catch you all later!

Blessings,

Well I kinda feel like a trader but it was a money issue more than anything else I will explain now that I've said that. I can get lionel 10" straight track for $3.32 a piece (this is there fast track the one with the road bed already on it.) Well MTH same item but road bed is a lot darker grey is $3.15 a piece (of coarse they don't match up so you can't combine them) I know okay were talking about .17 apiece well hers the biggy lionel switch is $64.80 for one electric switch and MTH switch is $43.20 over $22.00 a piece difference. so just 5 switches is $100.00 and say 50 straight to start with is anothe $8.50 thats almost 3 more sections .

I'm not a real big fan of MTH but it is starting to win me over on a couple of items I even heavens forbid bought a flat car because it had 2 VW bugs on it the old style my wife like them well the car had acual sprung trucks on it and the car was only like $34.00 where a compatable one in lionel would have been close to $50.00.

any way bought one electric switch today and 8 curves already had 14 straight that I bought for the reason of using in my display cabinet set up a small oval with a switch and one section of straight to it so I would have something else to do when the operation has me stuck here to the house.

Just got done chasing the cat with the engine pitcured below lol blowing the horn .

I recieved my Atlas Ge Dahs 8-40C yesterday, and I installed a decoder in it. Atlas did a good job with the decoder plug. You just pull out the dummy plug and install the decoder. Being my first decoder installation it was really easy. I expected it to be a little harder.
