Hi all

Not a lot happening here, I’ve been trying to deal with an apple tree in the garden that has become covered in ivy and isn’t looking too healthy.

Steve, I can remember having a damp proof course put in when we moved in here, it wasn’t needed but the mortgage people preferred their rules to considering houses case by case. Took about 2 weeks during which we had to move upstairs due to the dust and general devastation, then had to redecorate everything to cover the new plaster.

John, Hornby-Dublo offered an N2 in assorted paint schemes (apart from LNER and BR), the modern Hornby still offer one although it’s the old Airfix model from the ‘70s with an improved chassis. The lengths the LNER went to on the teak finish were amazing – after a while they gave up and just painted new steel stock in brown, which looks surprisingly good.

Jim, the Enigma was a machine used by the Germans to encode and decode messages – the Allies developed assorted early computerish devices to decrypt the information, starting with the Bombe (which used a lot of electromechanical parts) and ending with Colossus, the first programmable computer which appeared just before the war ended. Wikipedia has good pages on both Enigma and ULTRA (the code name for decrypted Enigma messages).

Rob, I won’t be able to get them as close as the prototype but it should look ok, I’m not too fussed about fine detail at this stage but just want to get the basics built. Need to check if I can afford to order the raw materials first though!

Bye for now
